How shera ruined catra for me pt1

This is going to be shorter than expected because im still new to tumblr but still, here's the series of me explaining how she ra ruined a character i liked. The reason is her awful 'redemption' because to put it simply: she didn't actually change, were back to square 1 with her. I would explain it more further when i can make longer posts but since now i cant, all i can say is: if she changed, we wouldnt have her blame adora for leaving ('please, just this once, stay') and have her actually understand her actions impacted people like adora negatively ('dont you get it? i love you, i always have', 'you love me?' 'your such an idiot') But why does the writing made me stop liking her? Because she does those before but we clearly are meant to view her as the villain and she was a great villain but now that shes meant to not be a villain anymore yet still does the same thing that made her one to begin with thats romanticized this time, I just cant look back that much in catra and still like her anymore because of how she ended, that and its just such a slap to the face of adora to make her pair up with her abuser who still guilt trip her, she deserves so much better than this. Catra deserves better than this too because she couldve been great, even deserving the hype if her redemption was actually good (aka, her actually changing)

I'm having some finale wine and I think I've got it. My final resolute head canon of Riverdale.

Keep in mind I have not watched the end of season 5 through the end and have absolutely no intention to, but I've seen and heard enough about *gestures vaguely* all of that to still stand by this.

Disclaimer: I do not believe this is what the writers intended whatsoever. This is all my imagination. I do however believe in this canon whole heartedly and its as true to me as whatever RAS's vision is to him. You choose who to trust.

Okay so first and foremost the entire series is written by Jughead. It's all his writings that are probably all sitting in a google docs draft folder.

I justify this due to the following:

He is the narrator

The entire series is obsessed with Betty Cooper for good or ill (I'll get to it)

Its all kind of sort of been alluded to that its all Jughead's writings anyway. At least in S1, again. I'll get to the why of that in a second.

He started writing season 1 in his junior year (so a year after the events of the S1). He read In Cold Blood (on his own, not for class, very important to him that you all know this) and was like "Hey my town had a murder and I have some trauma around it, so I should totes do this." And thus S1 is born.

This is why that season is (relatively) more grounded and far more realistic than the rest of the series because its based on a real true thing that happened and the real feelings and emotions of people involved. It has the least amount of exaggeration (but enough, because Jughead) and has the most coherent plot, which would make sense since Jughead isn't making anything up, he is recalling events.

This is also the only season that directly ties Jughead's narration and the plot to the book Jughead is writing on page, and thus tying them both together. Because again, its a thing that really happened.

So the characterizations, motivations, and actions of everyone in season 1 is the model of how and how these characters actually are and are a base for further exaggeration.

Seasons 2-4 are also based on true events but are exaggerations/interpretations of things that really happened, but are altered to make them more interesting to Jughead's readers (heh).

I don't want this post to be a novel so here is a brief listing of that I am thinking here for some of the main plots (but if you have a plot you want me to fit into this canon let me know):

The Black Hood: When Jughead showed Betty his first manuscript (S1) the positive constructive criticism she gave was that, "True crime is really popular right now, so this fits in with the zeitgeist." And Jughead ran with it. Fred also had his first heart attack at this time...we all know where I'm going with that so I'll just leave that there. RIP.

Making Hal the Black Hood: Hal leaves the family after the Polly debacle and finding some racy pics on Betty's computer (she sent them to Jug, she wasn't a camgirl) and decides to start his life over with a woman who is far more moral (and probably like 2 years older than Polly)

The Serpents/Class War with Hiram: Not a gang, just those under the boot of the rich that Hiram tries to eradicate through good ol fashioned gentrification. Archie and Veronica also start spending more time doing rich people shit and that drives a divide between the two main couples of the core four. But less about political plots and more about teenagers growing apart because of different interests

Season 3: Putting this all together because Jughead was having a hard time finding a plot here. So he focused on Alice's new weird young boyfriend who actually ended up taking off with Polly (leaving her twins), his newfound obsession with DnD (Betty was exhaustedly supportive of this) and Kevin's endless talk about the new megachurch he just joined. He and Betty also started watching a lot of horror films and Hitchcock at the time which leads us to...

Season 4: He and Betty go off to different schools but its because of college, not because Jug is the chosen one (again see why he is writing all of this himself). He meets a lot of pretentious people that challenge his relationship with Betty and he turns it into a mystery.

So now we have made it to 4.17. Ugh.

Okay so Jughead has written all of this, and reading everything back feels that Archie and Betty (who go to the same college now and are friends again after growing apart after he dated Veronica) have grown too close and Jug self destructs.

He self sabotages so hard and makes a story up in his head that Betty would be much happier with Archie who is doing perfectly mediocre at college while Jughead flunked out.

So he and Betty break up after a lot of frustrated fighting.

And he begins to write Betty differently. Wildly differently.

(You can't tell me this doesn't make more sense than whatever the hell happened in the show.)

Jughead dejected from his failure at school and his breakup Writes on and off for the next few years. His next main attempt is S5. His attempt at more realistic writing.

(Its also after Betty enters his life again, because at her core Betty is his muse)

He works through his fictional frustrations of Betty and Archie as a possible couple (They never dated. Archie is actually a aromantic pansexual who does not do commitment) and realized that he made it all up and they have nothing in common.

Jughead and Betty get back together at the end of "Season 5" but Betty tells him that writing about their real life is what tore them apart, so he needs to not use their relationship in his writing anymore.

So Jughead decided to get weird and wildly experimental with his writing. And because Jughead is not a particularly good writer S6 and S7 are born.

Betty, absolutely running out of positive things to say about his last few writing attempts tells him that maybe these exaggerated versions of their lives that bear no resemblance to the real world have run their course, and he should try something new.

So Jughead wraps up this now unrecognizable series of writings and moves onto something new.

With Betty diligently serving as his editor. She got distracted with her new job and left him unattended for those last few seasons and look what happened.

Also I realize that Archie/Veronica/Cheryl/Toni are absent in this so briefly

Archie: He always was in awe of Archie and slightly jealous of what he perceived he had over Jughead...this is why he is the quasi-hero and also why he tortures Arch and treats him like an idiot.

Veronica: I cannot stress this enough. He and Veronica have no relationship. She is his friend's girlfriend and his girlfriend's best friend. The only thing he really knows about her is she is rich and hot. So he makes that her core personality and slaps on whatever traits fit her best for whatever plot he is writing at the time.

(This is also why almost all the women Veronica, Tabitha, Jessica, and Toni all are at some time his love interest. Self instert fan fic Jug. We see you.)

Cheryl/Toni: He and Toni are friends and Cheryl is her girlfriend who endlessly terrifies him. That is the core of her characterization.

I already regret the fact that I am sharing this long-winded mess with the world...but I can't take it back now.

Ideas that first popped into my mind when certain OCs came to exist… Neri: it's a show about pirates, there's GOT to be a mermaid Niara: I want a character that uses a devil fruit mmmh what about plants/flowers (strangely enough, none of my pokemon oc's ever cared much about the grass type lol) Azura: I want a cool sword fighting lady Cordelia: I want a hot fierce type of character that looks good in black and that doesn't take anyone's crap Ellaria: came into the picture much later, I only recently decided somewhat on her looks, only things I know for sure is pale green eyes and can sort of see the future. Might never make it into any kind of story but she popped into my mind so here we go. Ginny: falls into the category "looks cute but can probably kill you".

This person missed the point of the criticisms SPOP has been receiving completely. I haven’t seen one person complain that the world was saved with the power of friendship bc it WASN’T. It was saved by a poorly written rushed abusive romance. In fact, the critics actually wanted to see Adora’s friendships save the day instead of her awful romance with Catra since the show is called She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, despite the princesses barely getting a role. And if there HAD to be a romance, it could’ve been with Glimmer, which would’ve made more narrative sense and sent a better message to kids.

Next, I’m not sure why OP described SPOP as a show with a “pastel color palette about friendship and love and unity” as if these things detract from the bad writing, plus these themes weren’t even handled well. I have no issue with Catra being redeemed and I liked her in seasons 3 and 4. That’s not why the show is being accused of abuse apologism and this isn’t comparable to when Sugar was accused of being a nazi apologist over the SU finale. SPOP was rushed as well (I’m not sure if it got canceled like SU) but Catra’s redemption either should’ve started sooner or the romance should’ve been ditched. SU at least had a much better writing, representation, and messages for kids. It’s funny since imo SU and SPOP are not two sides of the same coin as OP claims. If OP wants shows that are ACTUALLY comparable to SU with “pastel colors, nuanced yet positive and relatable messages about love, fun for kids,” then they should watch MLP and Amphibia instead. Also I haven’t seen one SPOP critic who’s “appalled by anything that is remotely challenging to toxic masculinity” so that’s a load of BS. As for the remaining claims, those may pertain to the SU critics for all I know, but I have yet to see any SPOP critics express such sentiments or behave in such a way. The “hate blogs” for SPOP are really just critical blogs like yours that make valid points rather than “a shit ton of bad faith misinterpretations” and aren’t “tearing [the show] to shreds,” plus the only harassment I’ve seen towards teens over a kid’s show has been from SPOP fans themselves.

This post also included a bunch of nonsense in the tags which I can no longer see since OP recently deactivated their account (in fact the only reason I’m able to share a link to the post is bc someone reblogged it), but they contained more misinterpretations of the criticisms along with slander towards the critics. I’m so sick of SPOP fans continuing to have no critical thinking skills while blindly defending the show and demonizing anyone who dares criticize it. It’s pathetic.

Thanks for the ask! Yeah, the show was saved because of a rushed abusive relationship. The thing is, I wouldn't be half as mad if it wasn't directed towards kids. I don't believe it's intentional, but kids are getting the thought that the way Catra treated Adora is ok because she loved her. Basically the "He bullies you because he likes you!" thing. Instead of actually considering if they have a valid point, they just assume that the critical blogs are just angry homophobic white straight men when a lot of the blogs are queer women like me. Also, yes a pastel color palette makes up for us having to watch a rushed toxic relationship in season 5. It's like spop stans don't realize that their perfect little show can have flaws and anyone who calls them out are homophobic racist. Also from my experience, nobody said the creator romantizes abuse, they are complaining that the show itself does whether it realizes it or not. This show is being marketed to kids and kids will believe that this is ok. That's probably my biggest gripe with the show.

Tag game: Eight shows to get to know me!

I was tagged by the lovely @smoothshine, thank you friend ❤️

1. The adventures of Hercule Poirot (Agatha Christie)

This is my favourite show of all time. I don’t even know how many times I’ve watched every episode and this is thirteen seasons long. Agatha Christie is a literary giant and this is arguably one of the best page-to-screen adaptations of all time, for good reason. David Suchet portrays Poirot brilliantly, his friend group is to die for and one episode is enough to scratch that i want a cozy murder mystery where everything works out in the end itch.

2. Sherlock BBC

This show is part of my personality, really, and what originally got me into fandom. Apart from being an incredibly well crafted adaptation, this was also the first time I actually saw a queer couple live together. And no, I don’t take criticism on the fact of their being a queer couple. When I was a baby lesbian Sherlock and Irene Adler where my icons and it was so nice logging on tumblr and seeing people showing love to something gay. Up till then I didn’t think it was possible

3. She-Ra

This show altered my brain chemistry. An actual lesbian couple being the core of an amazing tv series? My heart was blown to bits and reconstructed. I watched this, again, as a baby gay, and it was very affirming and gentle to my heart

4. The end of the f***ing world

I cannot stress how much I love this show. Season 2 especially is such a respectful and kind approach on how traumatic experiences shape our perception of the the world and how much we need people who love and understand us as we learn to navigate it again.

5. Merlin

The first few seasons of this live in my heart rent free, I adore Merlin so much. I want to hug every character. And officiate Merlin and Arthur’s wedding.

6. Feel Good

I can’t say how many times I’ve watched this show but it certainly isn’t a healthy amount. It’s funny, it’s tender and it’s a story about two young queer people learning to accept themselves and love each other. What’s not to love?

7. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

I’m sorry, I know this show has a brilliant story about two brothers in it but Roy and Riza are the protagonists for me, I just *screams*

8. Criminal: UK

This show is what opened my eyes to what an amazing craft directing is. Everything happens in an interrogation booth but the acting and directing is so good you don’t get bored for a single minute and the cases are excellent as well.

I've just stumbled across your blog (very happy to have done so) and I want to thank you for taking off my sunglasses.

I would have said opening my eyes but before seeing your blog I knew there were flaws in She Ra (plot and how Nate knew had 5 seasons but didn't plan it properly, ships (how abusive catradora was ect), catra's abusive tendencies and how disgustingly Entrapta was treated by the Princesses), but you've elaborated on those flaws and shown me new ones so that's why I said taking off the sunglasses lol.

i'm glad you found my blog helpful! this has always been my intention with this blog, to hopefully let more people know that this show isn't as romantic and progressive as it claims to be. especially abuse victims, who may not realize how red the flags are, because of how this show romanticizes abuse.

also, it's really rare to find people in this fandom who don't immediately get super defensive when they hear criticism, so i really admire how open-minded you are.

Actually my interest isn't so much in Yuri Anime per se. Its in women who are written interestingly.

mangaka & how they write women: 1) cant write women (Masashi kishimoto & Akira toriyama)

2) Writes women but hates them so all women characters go thru traumatic events

3) Uses the women they write as plot devices to further develop the male characters. all while female characters do is make men better while having no growth themselves

4) not interested in writing women due to certain tendencies

5) only exist to be potential partner and eye candy for mc. Their existence revolves around mc, they try to seduce him, all of them have to be shown nude or half nude at least once (Fujimoto and whomever writes the newest Fateverse fanfic garbage).

6) And then there's the people who claim to write fanfiction better than one female-protagonist show or another, but its basically yet again, replacing women with men....and yet people stand by and defend those fanfics that treat women like garbage or utterly less interesting than the men the fanfic writers put on a pedestal.

Don't get me wrong, though. There is Black Lagoon, Way of the house husband, Spy x family, etc. but those are few and far between.

So! Lyoris Recoil? Birdie Wing? Witch From Mercury? The Legend of Korra? Amphibia? The Owl House? RWBY? She-Ra and the Princesses of Power?

What I like about them is how they make women characters INTERESTING. It just so happens that so many of those anime, Japanese or Western, also happen to make them LGBT. And you know what? That's fine. In fact, that makes it even BETTER.

Because not only do we have interesting women characters written now...we also have interesting LGBT relationships written now.

Now if only media critics wouldn't make it their mission in life to tear those media down or twist them into their "fixing this" fanfics.

Btw, does anyone else enjoy Jodie Whitaker as the 13th Doctor Who? I personally think she did a FANTASTIC JOB.

5) A female villain you love?

Today, on "questions that took longer to answer than it should have because interesting female villains are few and far between due to misogyny..."

But well, Catra's pretty cool and well-developed and she spent four out of five seasons of She-Ra as a villain, so I'd say she counts?

Oh and again Ellen from Witch's House. She especially changed my teenage brain forever with that ending. I doubt it did for the better, though.

9) A female character you started out disliking but came around to?

Camilla and Celica. The dislike wasn't active but rather a byproduct of when I was still on Reddit with the mentality being "everyone keeps criticizing them so they must be bad" a teenager is especially vulnerable too... and now they're among my favorite characters. Go figure :P

14) An interesting familial relationship with female characters? (Mother and daughter, sisters, etc.)

I love Hinoka and Sakura's sister bond so much because Hinoka goes to such great lengths to get close to her sister in a way that makes her comfortable (by sending each other letters), and it's such a small but kind gesture that it really gets to me. With all the talk about how you have to be an extrovert to be liked and so on, seeing Hinoka actively make gestures to ensure Sakura feels comfortable first and foremost is something that not gonna lie, I wish I'd recieve something like this in real life too🥺

Because there's a lot of cishets who are making video essays about how Stolitz "ruined" the show after season 2 episode 1 was made

Anyone can criticize the show. I'm cishet and I do it sometimes too, as with any media I like. Though I don't really have any actual issues with the show and I prefer to be positive. Just because the show has LGBTQ characters doesn't mean only those in the community can criticize the show.

My issues are when those criticisms are speaking over LGBTQ people or are bigoted in nature. That is not our place to speak on that stuff and it never will be.

Now...about stolitz? I'd say the same thing applies. If it's about the characters, storytelling, or relationship, it's fine. I myself never really cared for the ship cause it's just not my cup of tea when it comes to the dynamic, plus I don't really care for Blitzo.

However, I've seen some of the "criticism" you're talking about... and yeah...the homophobia shows and it's gross. Despite my thoughts on the ship, I find myself having to defend it a lot. Like yeah, it's unhealthy but like...the whole plot is them getting better?? Do people not know what a plot is?? Not to mention shit like "Why does everything have to be gay?" or "It would be better if Stolas and Stella were together" Those people can FUCK OFF!

If it "ruined" the show cause they don't like the ship, that's just a bias and imo not a real criticism since they make it VERY clear it was going to be big from the beginning. Of course the main character's relationship is going to be important to the show.

I stopped watching She-Ra cause the main ship makes me uncomfortable, so I can understand If someone feels like a ship is becoming too prominent for them. But if that's the case, then these people need to stop watching, because those video essays are stupid.

The show isn't forcing Stoliz down your throat, it's not "bad writing", It's just plot.

So, yes, I believe cishets can criticize the show in general, but NOT the LGBTQ related stuff.

Stella sympathizers are gross too. I stopped sympathizing after episode 5 because we saw who she was. The new episodes just confirm even more how awful she is.

So I can safely say that what you showed in your post isn't criticism, it's people speaking over LGBTQ people and abuse victims...and people who lack basic reading comprehension.

And...here's the funny thing. They say it's not relatable, yet here I am, a cishet person, relating to these things.

You can never say something isn't relatable because everyone has different experiences.
