i've seen a lot of spop stans use the zuko and iroh reconciliation where iroh says that he was never angry at zuko, and do the same thing for catra and the people that she has hurt.
i've seen a lot of fanart and edits where scorpia or adora or one of the princesses tells catra that they were never mad at her, they were just disappointed and wanted her to start doing better or something like that. and??
it makes sense for scorpia, i guess, because she was shown to still care about catra after she left the horde. but adora? glimmer? it makes absolutely no sense that glimmer was “just disappointed” that catra killed her mom lmfao.

So you know this party banter between Aveline and Carver?
Aveline: I don't like some of the people you've been associating with, Carver. Carver: Talk to my brother/sister. He/She's the one in charge.
If you're on the rivalry path with Aveline, she says:
Aveline: Who says I don't mean him/her too? This city's full of people who are dead set on ending badly. I don't want to see you end up the same way.
I just- Aveline, you- you're so- hhhhnnnngggggg
I always rival Aveline when I play a mage, and if you think Edgar Aristide Hawke, who practically raised Carver and Bethany after Malcolm died and Leandra became a distant mother in her grief, wouldn't stop dead in his tracks at Aveline heavily implying he's a bad influence on his brother and Carver shouldn't hang around him so much since apparently Ed's someone set on ending badly...? Absolutely not.
This is another case of me wishing Hawke had the option to jump in during party banter with different options, because Ed would've chewed Aveline out for that.
Oh, and then there's:
Carver: Would asking you to stop spying on me help in the least? Aveline: No.
Aveline...................stop it.

there's this level of desperation and tragedy woven into this show. all the teens are stuck in little boxes made by their parents and the other adults around them. phum says, "It's business between adults. I'll let them handle it." and it's fucking tragic because, if only.

nlmg shows the extremely compromised position of children and teens in society. the lack of agency and pressure and expectation and strictures; a 'protected' class which is very often an oppressed class. the classification of a child as not a person, as simply an extension of their parent or guardian. and the different ways this plays out due to wealth and class status.

all these teens are being moulded and put under pressure to become an object of their parents' desires and crises, both purposefully and through the vagaries of their circumstances. the adults with power and money get to choose and direct their children's paths. the ones without get fucked and changed by those that do, and this falls onto their kids and influences them regardless of their parents' true desires. capitalism makes the position of child an even more precarious one for those not in power.

and it's clear that the teens are all aware of the situation. palm goes around his dad by hiding and lying. nueng by manipulating his mom. only chopper seems to be pushing back in a straightforward way: by becoming financially independent with his crypto (sigh) stuff and telling his father where he stands. (i want to say that whatever chopper implied happened between him and ben was part of the reason he started to push back against his dad's expectations? maybe?)
i hope they all get a chance to push back and remake the world and themselves in their own image. and don't let the pressure and circumstances lead them to destroying each other instead. (although that's clearly already begun. thus, the air of tragedy.)

what gets me about the way most gale girlies seem to interpret gale vs the way larian seems to have wanted his arc to be interpreted is that all of the other core 6 tadpoles have arcs about overcoming an abuser, someone who manipulated them or took advantage of them. they get to find their own agency and make their own choices about what that freedom means to them. but apparently gale's arc is one of fuck-around-and-find-out wizard hubris for which he needs to redeem himself and be humbled? and then larian is surprised that people have a hard time reading it that way? that they don't see him making the ultimate sacrifice at the end of the game to be a good ending for him at all actually?
like i personally like to be exploring nuance and so forth so i do think some of the gale girlies do over-correct on gale and mystra a little too much but i fully understand why they would want to do that and feel protective of him. why wouldn't gale's arc have the same overall themes as the other origin characters? it's just a really strange choice writing wise. larian clearly keeps trying to correct course with patches to make gale's arc look more like what they intended and it just pisses his fans off more.
one of the biggest complaints people have about his act 3 quests is how much the game pushes seeking mystra's forgiveness as the "right" and "good" path. no other character has to do that and larian puts no effort into explaining why mystra should be any different. and they could! they could have gale explain more about their relationship and about how mystra treated him and what agency gale really had with her. the way he talks about her is really only about himself and how bad he feels about it all. there's some brief mentions of him realizing that he was only ever a momentary amusement to her and there really should be more of that! let him unpack it! that would actually be a really cool angle for him because all of the origin characters (other than shadowheart) come in to the story knowing how much they were mistreated and react accordingly. i'd love to see an arc for gale where he slowly (with the pc's help) unpacks how mystra did him dirty and his human ending is about him getting closure rather than redemption.

au where tfa starts the exact same way with luke skywalker having vanished. and then it cuts to rey on jakku with luke. like luke is just there he's not missing. but she doesnt know that that’s luke skywalker- that’s just her dorky dad owen whitesun and they are each other’s whole world in that barren wasteland. cue leia sending one of her pilots there to follow a rumor about someone seeing luke- and when a droid meets luke and rey at their home and when finn recognizes Commander Luke Skywalker and Grandmaster of the Jedi in the market, rey discovers who exactly her father truly is

#this is really a show about coming of age in a vicious and unfamiliar world more than a show about werewolves#think about it. scott is sixteen and to him losing his first love is as incomprehensible and unfathomable as the supernatural.#and we're constantly reminded of how being sixteen and in love goes -- 'you're not in love you're sixteen and a child' etc.#these three characters make for such a good parallel to one another in how they werewolf + seeking guidance#especially + sudden change of worldview/stakes when confronted with sudden and unexpected loss and grieving#of course derek loses paige and becomes cold and jaded (see: literally becomes cold w/ blue eyes)#scott loses allison and commits harder to saving all of his friends even though one of them (or someone possessing him) killed her#liam is stopped from killing because of hayden's death#here are three werewolves who were sixteen and held their first love's dead body in their arms#and each of them took a different path. do you close yourself off? refuse to? do you change completely because of it?#and ofc it's teen wolf so everything always comes in threes#I have a lot of issues with the writing but the use of death (barring 6b) is not one of them. they really went hard on meaningful death.#also consider: lori holding brett's hand so he doesn't die alone and theo responding to tracy kissing him by killing her as she does#teen wolf writers went is anyone going to bastardize the original narrative to ponder new ideas about it and didn't wait for an answer#also women's deaths are always about love/for a man (thanks hollywood) but goddamn if they don't kill their women wisely#and the thing is they are all running. they're running from death and what does it get them? it gets them here.#derek wants to turn paige so she'll live forever. scott wants allison to live happily even with someone else. liam wants to save hayden.#none of them consider that cheating death will catch up to them until they run right into its arms#and all three die because of getting involved with the supernatural. all of them would presumably not have died otherwise.#coming of age into a world that takes and hurts and destroys and where you are now old enough for people around you to die.#this is not a show about werewolves.#teen wolf#twedit#teenwolfedit#my edit#derek hale#paige krasikeva#scott mccall#allison argent#liam dunbar
