-->That being said, it WAS a holiday, so while Victor was gathering the milk and eggs, Smiler and I were teaming up to get the house decorated! Because you can't have a Winterfest without it actually looking, you know, Winterfesty. :p Smiler of course used the decoration box to hang some nice icicle lights from the eaves and some garland on all the fences, while I put out most of the other items from their attic storeroom appropriate to the holiday. I admit, I didn't hang ALL the little paper garlands they had in there, but I put up enough to give the house an appropriately festive look, I feel!

At least, when you had the walls up. XD Yeah, uh, decorating is a bit difficult when you play with walls cutaway and most of them end up disappearing once you're back in that mode! But still -- at least the downstairs hallway had the right vibe with the doorway garlands and the string of holiday cards and the tree on the rug! And the outside looked pretty good with the nutcrackers and wooden deer and fancy garlands. :) Combined with the snow, we were festive as fuck. :p

-->However, being festive as fuck wasn't helping Alice with her Fury any -- despite meditating for a while, she was still in the danger zone. I figured that maybe the problem was the fact that she was still in her beast form and had her change back to human before settling in again on her stool --

THEN I saw Victor trying to eat some fruit pie before it was Grand Meal time, and was like, "Right -- YOU, go take Shadow for a walk, it's been a while, and YOU, Alice, you go have some Zoomies, that should reduce your Fury more and keep both of you occupied until it's TIME to eat." XD You gotta watch these Sims every minute, I swear...

-->But yes, Victor and Alice proceeded off into the snowy wastes, where Alice proceeded to have a very good Zoomies jog that REALLY lowered her Fury by a good amount, and Victor proceeded to do quite a lot of standing around while Shadow did that thing where she ran off in a random direction, stretching the leash to absurd lengths, before coming back again. At least we can't say that she didn't get her exercise! Smiler, for their part, kept busy by upgrading the upstairs shower to reduce shower times (you know, in case any of them actually take a shower instead of just relying on Victor's Scruberoo), then checking the hot trends on SimsTube. Video games were in, so Smiler fired up the old drone and recorded themselves playing some Sim Scuffle! Hopefully that will earn some nice royalties for the family.

-->Alice came back from her Zoomies first -- just in time to feed Toothy, who had the old cake tongue out to tempt passing Sims. She also emptied the trash around the place and cleaned all the spoiled food out of the fridge. I then had her entertain herself by playing with the kittens (Shock quite likes the laser pointer, as you can see), while I finally got Victor and Shadow to get off the nearby bridge and come home. Victor took a moment to search the pockets of the laundry in the hamper for goodies while Alice finished up kitten playtime and Smiler flew downstairs --

The Sims 4 Mod: Simvestigations

Your Sims can become private investigators in this mod for The Sims 4! What was originally based on the Private Investigator active career from The Sims 3 Ambitions, evolved into its own mini game game. Take cases and look for clues to determine who is innocent, and who is the culprit.

How to Play

The mod adds a new "Simvestigations" app to the phone. Select it and choose "Search for Cases" to find a case to solve. It works similarly to the Odd Jobs system from Island Living. Solving cases increases your star rating, and a higher star rating unlocks more cases that are higher paying but more difficult.

After choosing a case, the game will assign a random Sim as the culprit, and one or more other Sims as decoys (assuming you start a 0 stars, your first case will only have one decoy). Using interactions that are available to your Sim, deduce which Sim is the culprit. There are various ways to find clues, including talking to the suspect, rummaging through their trash, using the Listening Device from StrangerVille, and more. See further down for more information. The mod is more likely to choose Sims with traits, skills or who live in worlds based on the case description.

As your Sim finds information about the case, there is a random chance it will increase your Sim's "Confidence" that the other Sim is the culprit. Once your Sim's Confidence reaches 100%, you can use the phone to report the culprit and complete the case.

Your Sim isn't doing all the work, though. You, the player, have a bit to do as well. While the chance of gaining Confidence is random, it is higher when looking for information on the actual culprit than on a decoy. Therefore, if you notice an unusually high success rate, you may have found the culprit and should continue investigating. Conversely, if you notice a low success rate, maybe you should start investigating a different suspect. Your Sim can only ever get 100% Confidence on the culprit, decoys will cap out.

Ways to Investigate

There are multiple ways you can find information on a suspect:

Become friends with them and convince them to give you information.

Become friends with them and trick them into giving you information.

Be mean to them and demand information.

Secude them for information.

Become friends with a household member and ask for information.

Rummage through their trash.

Research them on a computer.

Hack for information on a computer.

Use the Listening Device from StrangerVille. After using the device to listen in on a suspect, click their recording and select "Use as Case Evidence". This will delete the recording and has a chance to increase your Sim's Confidence.

Analyze previously rummage trash using the Chemical Analyzer from Get to Work.

Side Cases

Aside from the mini game, there are other cases you can take to earn extra money and increase your star rating. These include socializing with other Sims around town for information, exploring hidden areas from packs, and more.

Some side cases require certain packs to function. The mod is split into seperate package files, so you can delete ones for packs you don't have.

i don't use semi-realistic furniture in my sims' houses as much anymore now that i've switched to true maxis match, but @syboubou's apolline lounge corner is pretty sweet! i had a lot of fun converting it. there are 11 buy mode items and 4 wallpapers included in total.

Looking at your Downloads page, I see you have a section entitled "Terms of Uses", in which you have numerous restrictions on how players may use your CC. I was wondering where you think you get the right to restrict usage of your material, since EA owns all rights to anything made for Sims games. Additionally, and in particular, the Sims 3 EULA specifically says that there can be no restrictions on how players use each others CC (section 2B4). Why do you think these laws don't apply to you?

Hey there,

First things first: I get why people ask others about this. I really do. But I think we sometimes forget that, TOUs, from a *legal* perspective, are incorrectly set up. (with other words, even with my TOU, I could technically never send a DMCA claim as the setup is incorrect).

We shouldn't forget that creator TOUs are there from a more morally correct perspective. My personal feelings on people just grabbing my items, especially meshes I meshed without asking, and then claiming as their own is just a dick move. Whether the EULA allows it or not. In the end, we're a community. Not a company.

Conversions on the other hand, that i've done (which my TOU does say) you can do all you'd like with it, as I don't own those meshes/textures at all. All rights reserved there.

Now, diving into the contract:

Section 2B4 says the following:

B. Contributing Content through The Sims 3 Launcher (Emphasis on LAUNCHER here)

(...) 4. In exchange for the right to use content contributed by other users through the Software, when you contribute content through the Software, you expressly grant to other users of the Software the non‐exclusive, perpetual, transferable, worldwide, irrevocable right to access and use, copy, modify, display, perform, and create and distribute derivative works from, your contributed content in connection with the Software, and to distribute and otherwise communicate your contributed content as a component of works that they create using the Software, for example, The Sims lots or The Sims videos, without further notice, attribution or compensation to you. You hereby waive any moral rights of paternity, publication, reputation, or attribution under applicable law with respect to EA’s and other players’ use and enjoyment of such content contributions in connection with the Software.

The way I, personally, understand it, and I read Copyrighting & Rights documents A LOT for my work and often confirm my findings with a third party, is:

It has to be content that's from and to the Launcher. Specifically with the exchange website in mind. We're talking Lots, Sims, Sims3pack store items. Videos recorded from TS3 > The sims 3 Launcher. Screenshots even. This is what this section specifically refers to.

The content needs to have come in a Sims3Pack specifically. Package files cannot be installed through the launcher, and therefore rules this part of the contract out as a potential illegal move. In fact, reading the full contract, it's a very gray area in said contract.

The "Software" (The sims 3) can't make meshes for you. It can't make textures, it can't make a script mod for you, but what it can make is the following within the game itself to share: Lots, Sims, Worlds (well, the TS3 Worlds EULA would come into play here, which is practically the same as TS3's), CASPart presets (So NOT CASparts), Patterns (again, TS3 Pattern tool EULA, assuming you didn't use a third party tool for this instead). Sharing "Objects" (in the sense of simply Presets), Pets and "Tattoos" (in the sense that, within CAS, you save your "Layered" tattoos and then share it on the exchange). With other words, the things you download OR share from/to the exhange, but not limited to third party websites, where the content also has to be installed through the Launcher. Those are the people you want to talk to, when they're complaining that people are modifying their Sims3packaged Sim/Lot. I'm the wrong target for this EULA honestly and sending this ask to.

In fact, just to do other people some favours, let's go through the whole Section B in a summarised, humanly readable way (Remember this is for the LAUNCHER)

EA/Origin account grants you the ability to download/upload from and to the launcher and it's websites (The Exchange for example)

Don't upload copyrighted stuff to the Exchange. EA has the rights to remove them then.

EA can use your lots/sims/presets of CASparts/objects in their promotion materials. As well as your images and videos even. You automatically grant permission to this once you share it to an EA website. (The Exchange)

The part that I do find interesting, and I know TS2's EULA had the same thing, is the following (I bolded the interesting part):

2. Intellectual Property Rights and Ownership. A. Reservation of Rights. You have purchased a limited license to the Software and your rights are limited to the license grant above and subject to this License. You may not otherwise copy, display, distribute, perform, publish, modify, or use the Software or any component of it. You are prohibited from making a copy of the Software available on a network where it could be used or downloaded by multiple users. Except as expressly licensed to you herein, EA and its licensors, as applicable, owns and reserves all right, title and interest in the Software, and all related data, characters, themes, objects, storyline, images, photographs, graphics, animations, video, music, text, and the associated copyrights, trademarks, moral rights and other intellectual property rights therein. This License is limited to the intellectual property rights of EA and its licensors in the Software and does not include any rights to other patents or intellectual property. Except to the extent permitted under applicable law, you may not decompile, disassemble, reverse engineer or created derivative works of the Software by any means whatsoever. You may not remove, alter, or obscure any product identification, copyright, or other intellectual property notices in the Software. All rights not expressly granted herein are reserved to EA

Now, you may think the term "Created Derivative works" must mean specifically modified meshes, but I'm guessing this was actually put in for in case someone is modifying Speed tree trees.

Besides, the meaning is:

Derivative work refers to a copyrighted work that comes from another copyrighted work. Copyrights allow their owners to decide how their works can be used, including creating new derivative works off of the original product.

Regarding the part of software modification: Third-party tools (such as S3PE) would seriously edge the line here, contract speaking. They don't have disassembled/reverse engineered code of the "Software" but they do create a copy of the content(s) in memory. (Think: meshes, textures, reading of package files)

The contract, however, is in this section extremely vague for a court to figure out whether they also mean textures/meshes taken from the game and modified as an override.

So if I have some feedback for their lawyers who wrote this, here you go :p. Though, let's be honest, the contract is only set up with EA's services in mind. I actually think those are the huge shortcomings in this contract.

Sorry this got so long. But I've had these talks SO often, that it's getting a bit tiring.

Please PLEASE PLEASE send the contract first to a third party that has a degree in law (which I have done, to someone who does international laws & Software laws), before sending asks like these. I know you mean it out of goodwill, I really do, but it's simply incorrect the way you're interpreting it.

So I've been watching a let's play of the game Hades recently.

It involving interaction with several Greek gods, as you try to escape from roguelite Hades. And also Hades.

Your dad.

One of those gods is Chaos. The primordial from which all others ultimately sprang.

This is what it looks like.

In case you're wondering what it sounds like, it's a dude's voice put through a voice filter to sound more androgynous

Just for context, their previous game, Transistor, had two human protagonists and 4 antagonists. Two of them were men married to each other. One of them with a woman who stalked the female protagonist, and wanted to get the female lead away from her boyfriend.

By which I mean, "she tried to kill him with a magic flash drive in the shape of a sword".

So when I say Hades; protagonist refers to Chaos as "gentlebeing", and his adoptive mom calls Chaos "they", I strongly doubt it was because chaos has a group identity.

Also, a lot of the Transistor side characters have personal profiles. Including gender. One of them is "X".

Anyway, back in Hades. One of the gods you interact with is Aphrodite. She says can't wait for the player character to escape the underworld so she can introduce him to mortals. Specifically, "ladies and/or gentlemen".

You know, it makes sense that she doesn't actually know who the hero prefers, but this seems a bit...clumsy? Why not just say "mortals"? If she wanted to be specific, why not "Ladies! Or gentlemen! Or both!"

Then it sounds like someone trying to be accommodating to her relative, instead of a rehearsed speech.

Of course, it might actually be rehearsed. It would be in character.

I don't know. maybe they had to save room in the text box.

And for the record, the game's character designs are hot. Literally by design. *

I suspect the game was intended to appeal to the horny Tumblr-type audience. There's even dating sim bits. The hero is canonically bi.

Also, it bugs me that the characters use "hell" and phrases with "hell" in them. Hades isn't hell.

On the other hand, I suppose the alternatives are removing those phrases altogether, or awkwardly subbing in Hades for hell. 

And I've seen way too much of that sort of thing from David Weber books and other old school sci-fi.

* I don’t really see it, even just for the women. The closest thing to hot is Aphrodite, and she’s so blatant it turns me off.

EA Announces Two New Kits Coming September 7th

After various leaks these past few days, EA has officially announced two new kits for The Sims 4: Poolside Splash Kit and Modern Luxe Kit.

The first one is for Create a Sim items and, as the name suggests, brings an assortment of clothes in the swimwear category and also accessories that go with them.

As for the second one, Maxis has partnered up with simmer and creator @XureilaYT for items that “celebrate hard work with new elegant furniture that says ‘I made it'”, as they say on social media.
