Halloween 2022

I have already planned out my Halloween 2022 costume. It will be inspired by 80s rock and/or metal. Sadly, I don't have any acid wash jeans, band shirts, or any combat style of boots, no vest, and no patches, so it will prob be an expensive 'costume' that I will wear on the daily besides just the spookiest night of the year.

I will try and post some pictures if I do wind up going with this idea. I told my parents at dinner, and I told them that I wanted to dress up like a person from the 80s. My dad suggested Michael J. Fox's character of Marty McFly from the "Back to the Future" franchise.

I guess that I could pull of gender-bent Marty or (Martha I guess if he was a girl..?) But, we'll see when the time comes for spooky season.

every time i open twitter to look at itemlabel or the 2 streamers i watch, i see the for you tab and i see that shit has really really hit rock bottom over there. its all jut No Context Humans and random blue checks posting mid memes and shameless engagement bait whilst comments are filled with people posting irrelevant mid memes or asking for context solely because they want the interactions to game the algorithm. its like walking from the average dystopia of tumblr into fucking skid row

camp AU + meet messy + "you never saw me": Alex/Henry, rated T

In the time it takes for Henry to walk from the plane to the small airport’s baggage claim, the sky goes from an ominous gray to black. Thunder rumbles overhead, and as he hefts his duffel from the baggage conveyor, the sky splits open and unleashes what appears to be the entirety of the Gulf of Mexico onto the coastal airport. This bodes well for his summer as a counselor at Camp Fallen Oak.

Luckily, the downpour tapers off as quickly as it started, and before long, only puddles remain as proof that it’d ever begun. Henry pulls out his phone and takes a quick selfie in front of the airport, sending it off to Bea and –

He’s drenched, head to toe, as an older model sixteen-passenger van splashes through a large puddle on the pavement a few feet away. As Henry wipes his face dry with an equally wet hand, the van skids to a stop just beyond the puddle and parks.

The driver’s side door opens and closes and rapid footsteps splash toward him on the wet asphalt. “Shit, man, I’m so sorry – ”

“You couldn’t have gone around – ” Henry shakes his head vigorously, and the spray of water catches the driver in the face.

“Hey!” the man exclaims. “Jesus, watch where you’re – ”

Henry plucks at his sodden shirt, grimacing as the wet fabric pulls away from his skin. “Ugh. I have an hour in the car before I get to camp – ”

“Hold on a second,” the driver says. “English, college age, going to camp, landed at this tiny-ass airport – your name’s not Henry Fox is it?”

Henry glares at the driver, taking him in for the first time. He looks about Henry’s age, with a headful of dark curls and an almost unfairly handsome face that’s pinched in dismay. “Oh god,” Henry replies. “You’re my driver?”

“Uh, yeah,” the driver says. “I’m Alex. Claremont-Diaz,” he adds, as an afterthought.

“Any relation to Director Claremont?” Henry asks, already bracing himself for the answer.

“Yeah,” Alex says. “She’s my mom.”

Henry opens his mouth to reply and instead is caught off-guard by a full-body shiver.

“Shit. Let me get the heater turned up in the van for you,” Alex says, trotting back toward the driver’s side. “Do you want to change in the airport before we go?” he calls over his shoulder.

Henry looks at his sodden duffel bag and heaves a pessimistic sigh, then picks it up. “I probably don’t have anything that’s dry enough,” he grouses.

Alex rolls down the passenger-side window as Henry approaches. “There are a couple of blankets in the van,” he offers. “You could at least get out of your wet clothes and cover up with those. I can park somewhere less conspicuous.”

“I went to an English boarding school,” Henry drawls. He opens the passenger door, climbs in, and tosses his duffel into the next row of seats. “I know how to get undressed under a blanket. No need to park out of the way.”

“Uh, good to know,” Alex replies, his voice a little thick. “Heater’s cranking. I’ll grab you those blankets.”

Once he’s draped under a blanket in the passenger seat, Henry makes quick work of removing his sodden clothing. He tosses his shirt, then his shorts, then his sodden shoes and socks behind him, hesitating for a moment at the waistband of his pants before pulling that damp garment off as well. 

“See? You never saw me,” Henry proclaims, tucking the blanket securely around himself before fastening the seatbelt.

Alex makes a strangled noise, then coughs and puts the van into gear. “Nope. Never saw you,” he echoes.

doctor & aches for the health meme!

doctor: how often does my muse visit the doctor? do they tend to go routinely, or only when something is wrong? 

It would take a lot to convince Seymour to visit a doctor, given that he knows that he usually doesn't have the money to afford a doctor's visit. He hasn't had a check-up since he was a very small child still living in the Skid Row Home for Boys, and has hardly visited medical professionals for anything since. It's more likely that someone else would have to drag him to a hospital or doctor's office against his will in a moment of emergency rather than him being persuaded to go on his own accord.

...Plus, he's a bit scared of the idea of people poking and prodding at him, and even more terrified of the idea of ever needing any kind of surgery. He tends to try and handle most, if not all of his non-life threatening medical situations on his own.

aches: does my muse have any frequent aches? ie, muscle aches, joint aches? how do these affect them from day-to-day?

Chapter 5 Author's Notes

I really wanted to show off the Cyberpunk atmosphere in this chapter by capitalizing on the surroundings just a bit in the first paragraph. How I came up with the descriptions like the cables hanging from the ceilings, and the murals on the wall, was by doing a bit of research by looking up cyberpunk scenery. I really wanted to capture the unique surroundings Leon's in. Hopefully, I have succeeded in setting out what I tried to do lol.

New Minor Character Introduction

The concept for AL was a little tricky, but also a lot of fun. I took inspiration from the current times for most of the A.I. themes in Whiplash. Things like: A.I. software taking information that's fed to it, and it using that information to churn out something all its own. AL is kind of like that, he's like a child when it comes to learning about life. Inquisitive and believes almost everything he watches on TV (th...this was me as a kid....) to the point, that he thinks TV shows hold the answers to real life problems.

For example: if he sees two people arguing, he'll use things he learned from watching a children's show, or something like that, to mediate and settle the issue. (Not that it actually works, but it is especially amusing to see him mediate an argument between Leon and the gang, lol.)

AL is the A.I. bartender working at the 4 Non Blondes, located on the darker edge of Skid Row, bordering (though still far enough away from) Motorhead territory. I'm hoping to bring him back in future chapters (which I plan to) as he's a lot of fun to write. He enjoys having Leon and the gang come in, because it gives him someone familiar to talk to, and joke around with. Maybe I will have him along for the ride in some of my upcoming chapters, but not before the next arc I currently have planned in Chapters 11 - 13.

Leon's Backstory

It's no secret to anyone that has read the latest (edited) chapters of Whiplash that Leon has an inarguably difficult life, and to say he's had a rough childhood comes nothing short of an understatement, at least in my eyes. In this chapter, I wasn't entirely certain how to expand on his backstory, err rather, how to do so gently. Ramone serves a pivotal role now, though dead since chapter 2, but an important role in Leon's character development as the story progresses. In the original conception of Whiplash Riot, the story was going to take place in one of two places: prison, and/or a military base. I scrapped the idea upon tackling writing the first scenes, as it just didn't seem plausible to make it work. And it also goes without saying I dreaded the extensive research that would have gone into researching the French military. As for the prison setting, I feel Stone Ocean did that perfectly fine, and I didn't want to risk writing something too similar. I wanted something more original for Whiplash. Hence the birth of Cyberpunk Paris. Regardless of the setting, Leon was going to have a rough upbringing, though not in the initial rough draft. As stated in previous author's notes, that story was vastly different from what Whiplash Riot is now. Leon is a survivor of domestic abuse. This will play into future chapters, and I'm hoping to nail the result on the head and showcase how Leon will overcome the pain Ramone has caused in his life, and grow into the person he wants -- and deserves -- to be.

References AL -- Namesake: Weird Al Yankovic 4 Non-Blondes -- Namesake: an American alternative rock band of the same name (they are responsible for the song used in the He-Man meme, Fabulous Secret Powers) yes, I referenced the meme lol. More than once I'll admit, but I'll save that for another time. Chapter 5's title, Pushed in Little Forms -- Namesake: lyrics from Helloween's song, I Want Out. It's such a banger.
