im actually going to do my Personal 5 first because that's what i want above the read more cut 😂 no one is escaping looking at my babies.

Thorns (E), 18k, andreil // a post-canon fic where andrew and neil cope with doing a long distance relationship when u both have fatal levels of attachment issues lol. i spent a stupid long time on this fic for the word count, but there is love in every single word. i like this universe bc it's what i want for post-canon andreil. no one gave them the tools for this shit, but i love the idea that they will always figure out how to be together, even if its messy.

No Turning Back (E), 31k, andreil // this is perhaps recency bias, but i think this is the best thing ive ever written. i have a hard time summarizing it.. but it's an au where the conflict is almost entirely in andrew's head, which of course means he Causes Many Problems. i actually built this fic out from Andrew's fucked up internal journey, which was cool for me -- like, the main plot was developed to fit his character arc. i think that's probably not rocket science or unique but it was my first time doing it that way!

We Can Live Forever (T), 46k, andreil // i used to not like hs aus and then i wrote a huge one lol. its childhood best friends-lovers, and centered on this ridiculous lip sync serenade fundraiser ?? i made them all dance. a lot. sometimes its serious, but its mostly very silly. i wrote it w the intention of giving people that "read until 4am screaming into ur pillow bc cute aggression" feeling that so many fics have given me, and the feedback ive gotten implies ive succeeded, so im rly proud of that!!

Stoner AU (E), 21k, snowbaz // i'm cheating a bit because this is a series, but i almost consider this thing to be like a collection of sitcom episodes lol. it's a normal au, simon is a weed guy and baz buys from him and also falls in love w him. theres a lot of penny and shep and its all just very FUNNY imo. and they are all so fucking devoted to each other in kind of unhinged ways. i love rereading these fics.

I'll Come Back To You (T), 6.9k, andreil // ok, for 1: that's the exact word count. every time i fix typos on rereads i have to edit it to preserve the wc. but 2: this fic is Not Silly or Smutty LOL. it's probably my plottiest/most serious fic in some ways -- it deals w, like, multiple dimensions ?? and amnesia. and loneliness. i'm proud of the ambiguity, because i tend to be a writer that punches you in the face with The Theme. this one leaves a lot for the reader to figure out (to the dissatisfaction of some commenters lol), but i like that you have to think about it a bit.

all of these are andreil, because aftg fandom is a lot bigger than carry on </3.

boyfriend privileges (T), 4k // i should not have been surprised that this did the numbers, but i was kind of shook when my ao3 inbox blew up like never before. it's fanfic catnip -- a 5+1 post-canon with resolvable angst interspersed with soft moments. i wrote it in like 2 days and didn't edit, and aint that just the way of ao3 lol.

flashes of intimacy (T), 7k // this is a series of fifteen <500 word fics that i add to pretty often, so it also makes sense that it's got a lot of readers! ive always been proud of my ability to write short, so it makes me happy that it's up here. it wld probs be #6 on my personal rating.

Inside Thoughts (T), 1.5k // andrew gets his wisdom teeth out and is a goober about it. one of my first aftg fics -- i think it's up here bc it's almost a year old. i am not passionate abt it tbh, i wrote it kind of as a joke one night while i was high lmfao

Do Not Disturb (T), 2k // another of my first aftg fics that i kind of dont care much about hahaha. it's another catnip situation, a post-canon moment where neil panics & unconsciously calls andrew, similarly to how he does in canon. and then they r soft <3

Tequila Sunrise (M), 4k // i know people love this one -- it's also my most bookmarked. it's fun!! drunk neil!! but i almost can't read it anymore lol. there's some prose im proud of in there, but there's also some lazy characterization choices i made bc i had no idea it would get so many hits. its hard for me as the Characterization Guy to reconcile that hahaha.

ok as usual that was long-winded as hell. i love 2 talk abt writing :) also i feel bad 4 the lack of snowbaz representation here lol, but i think that i'm 1. better at writing andreil and 2. have gotten a lot better at writing while i was unemployed the last few months. i think a lot abt taking snowbaz for another whirl now, but consider: then i wouldn't get to write abt Andrew Minyard :(

Some of these are high scored because they're older, and some because they were just popular in comparison. There's a lot of overlap between this list and my favorites, but there are some differences.

One thing I notice is that the fics that were 'gift fics' where they were written to a specific prompt, or Carry on Reverse Bang fics, written to art that was made before the fic, didn't make my top ten, probably because it feels like the creativity that built them wasn't wholly mine. I still love those fics, but just not quite as much.

Also, other than Raising Dragons, I didn't include WIPs, though they may become favorites when they are done. I'm especially fond of Saving Simon Snow, my forced marriage fic, which I think is getting close to finished. I'll probably start posting that one by April!

And the experience of writing was a huge factor in my choices below. Getting to collaborate with lovely people, or finding myself as a writer features in all or most of my favorites.

Here is my list of faves:

A Fucked-Up Cinderella Story. Ok, the butt plug joke is my favorite joke of anything I've written, Ok? Not to mention, this is the Erotic Gropefest collaboration where I first met and worked with my dear friend Fristi and learned what a joy it is to collaborate with a brilliant artist.

Back To Start: I've called this fic my baby, and it is. It's the first fic I wrote where I really felt like a competent writer, and you don't forget that feeling. I used a whole lot of my life experience in writing Baz as a baby and child too, so it's especially dear to me.

Careful What You Wish For: This was my second collaboration, and @ivelovedhimthroughworse Apricot is the sweetest, most supportive partner anyone could ask for. And this fic is my favorite type to read: angsty, science-y, plot heavy with loving smut.

The Watford Games: This was the first plot driven fic I ever wrote, and I'm proud of what I accomplished with it. And it's also another type of fic I love to read: AUs that put Simon and Baz in place of well-known characters.

The Blue and The Gray: Written for COTTA, this fic didn't make the AO3 top ten, and I think that's because the American Civil War is probably of lesser interest to non-Americans. But I love it, and I think it was the first fic that made me feel like a writer. You don't forget that.

Raising Dragons: Even though this is unfinished, I've had so much fun writing pregnancy and childhood shenanigans in the SnowBaz universe. Not to mention getting to work with Fristi again!

A Real Doll was from the Monster Under the Bed fest, my first non-COTTA fest. This is the first smut fic I ever wrote solely for the purpose of smut, and I think it turned out pretty decent! (Also was the first fic that got a comment from Aralias, which meant a lot to me).

New Year, New Me: This one again didn't make the AO3 top ten, most likely because of the mpreg tag. But it is the exception to the 'gift fic curse', because again, I got to put so much of myself into it. The song @moodandmist and @cutestkilla wrote for it helps elevate this one for me too!

Double Your Pleasure, Double Your Fun: I'll be honest here. I'll read PWP for the usual reasons, but it's always been one of my least favorite categories. I like plot in my fics. But this idea of Baz and Simon having a foursome with their own clones came to me and wouldn't let me go. And the fact that I got to work with Ashton, @artsyunderstudy? That is absolutely the reason this makes my top ten.

The White Chapel: This one is very new and will likely score higher as I get some distance from it. But as an adaptation of my all time favorite movie, Xanadu, it was a pleasure to write from start to finish (and it's also an exception from the gift fic curse, I'm now realizing--but it wasn't written to a prompt and I think that makes the difference).

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

One is surely Show Me Who You Are (my first fic of the year!). It's by far my most popular fic, and considering that I wrote it in like 2 days in a frenzy to meet the Snowflake Exchange deadline and panicked half of the time, I'm incredibly surprised. But I guess people love monsterfucking.

Another one is Love Bite. I wrote it in like 2 hours on Tumblr and when I put it on AO3 it got so much love so fast! Especially comments - it's currently my most commented oneshot. But baby boyfriends Snowbaz are really cute, so I understand.

13. What’s your longest work of the year?

Longest complete work (I'm ignoring Birthday Man because only 2 or 3k of it are mine): I Know What You Are, 17k.

My longest work in general right now is where I belong with 25k, it will probably get around 40k before the year ends but I'll finish posting in January so we'll have to wait for the final word count. If all goes well by the end of the year my longest complete work will be Like We Had A Clue, which is already 18k and should be done by the end of the month!

14. What’s your shortest work of the year?

My shortest complete work is I Love Fire (522 words). I have two shorter works but one is just the lyrics of a song (not mine, of course) so it doesn't count, and the other is just the prologue to a longest fic that will be posted at some point in the future.

I'm definitely not a short fic person, but I do like the challenge sometimes!

I have 10 fics so I guess I’m recommending half of them 😂 . Which means none of these will be surprising because I’m sure you’ve all heard me talk them to death by now.

1. Slings And Eros (M, 95k and counting)

I couldn’t make this list without this fic. It’s a beast, but it’s my baby. It’s my longest by a wide margin, which probably feels intimidating to potential readers, but I still hope people give it a chance because I just feel all kinds of ways about this one. It’s on the surface an Eros and Psyche Greek myth au but it’s also barely that at all and does not require knowledge of the original or of mythology. It follows star-crossed god Simon and human Baz as they work with Penelope to save Baz from the wrath of Simon’s father. In the midst of that, it explores prophecy, destiny, morality, accountability, identity, and all the ways we can love. And it also weaves in as many themes/characters from the books as possible ofc. I look forward to the day this one is complete and I can read it through and hopefully still love it.

2. A Man of Letters (T, 54k)

I’ve easily read this fic more than any other (mine or anyone else’s). It was so much fun using the unsent-letters-cum-diary format to construct the narrative and I think this ended up being a super successful way to write it. Baz gets to live that Beau Brummell life and Simon gets to play with swords. There is trauma, class anxiety, miscommunication, and oodles of romantic tension. Also! Lady Ruth! Who, I dare say I did a pretty bang up job of characterizing pre-awtwb. (You didn’t hear it from me, but Lady Ruth may do a bit of Plotting™️ of her own...🤫 )

3. Chamber by Chamber (E, 19k)

My most kudosed fic now apparently. Maybe I should just rec the series it’s in. There are three fics that do all build together, but they can stand on their own, depending how deep you want to go. This fic was my way of having Simon and Baz finally fully accept the monstrous in themselves by giving that to each other, using Simon’s WS quote as a kind of outline. I termed it therapeutic smut, which is accurate, while also being very kinky—but look at who we’re dealing with. It was also an excuse for me to write all the tail sex. Fully (and very explicitly 😅) illustrated with a banging playlist.

4. I Can’t Believe He’s Not Butter (T, 5k)

Yes it’s crack, but I still really love this fic. Also, most of my fics are chaptered and 10k+ so this could offer some nice entry level commitment. Do you yearn for sensual scenes of butter spreading? An oversaturation of saucy puns about sauces? Poetic musings from the syrup caddy at table six? Have a need to see the only appropriate use of the word “nubbin”? This is the fic for you! I truly had no idea how much worldbuilding I was going to do for this one. Did I need to explore the interpersonal relationships and social/power dynamics of diner condiments? Well actually yes, yes I did. I hope pancake syrup!Baz and margarine!Simon are very happy together in their blue plate special life.

5. To the Manor Borne (T, 43k)

My COC entry from 2020, using each day’s prompt to write another chapter; the plot is intentionally loose at best, so the chapters are pretty standalone if you wanted to do this one in shorter installments. The ws-era gang spends the Christmas holidays at Pitch manor doing dead spot research, arts and crafts, caroling, canoodling, and introspection. Shepard teaches Baz, Penny, and Agatha how to tie their shoelaces the Normal way. Simon is back in therapy and trying to convince Baz to go to, too. Penny is doing work on her dad’s team. Agatha doesn’t know why she’s there, but she’ll figure it out. Snowbaz exchange gifts, have touching moments in the rain, go flying, and are just generally nauseatingly adorable.

Hello, hello, hello! I’m all for self-love (and shameless self promo). I have five babies:

All the pretty things that we could be (Klaine, G, ~70K)

Aka the time I shoe-horned all kinds of Klaine AUs in one big story and then accidentally (sorta) added an entire overarching story. This fic was supposed to be “24 separate ficlets”, but my mind went “uh, nope!” and as a result, this fic got bigger than I expected it to be.

Myosotis sylvatica (Klaine, T, ~73K)

I usually want to post the entire Myosotis verse as an answer, but for this ask I decided to kill my darlings and pick favourites, and yeah, in Myosotis the main story (aka sylvatica) is clearly my favourite. It’s my twist on the amnesia trope, which is a trope I don’t always like. What if the memories don’t come back?

Mendacious (Klaine, T, ~27K)

Another trope that made me go “hmmm... what to do with this”, and it’s catfishing! I liked Mendacious because it gave me a reason to write Kurt like the more petty and manipulative fucker he was in season 1. And it was sort of a plea for inclusivity in the queer space, but shhhhh, that’s supposed to be an implicit thing.

I’d cry a river just for you (Klaine, T, ~30K)

Klaine, Klaine, Klaine galore! What did I like about this fic? Reunion trope! Queer time! Shameless promotion of the Netherlands! The usage of two different timelines and respective POVs! The OCs! The playlist that I formed the chapters around! What I didn’t like about this fic? Confronting my failed friendship with my former best friend! But hey, I got a pretty great fic out of it.

e pare stella che tramuti loco (Snowbaz, T, ~29K)

Of fucking course, there’s some Paradiso on this list. Just like the Myosotis series, it’s kill your darlings time, and I actually think I like Paradiso 3 the most out of the series. Paradiso 1 is the first-born who’s very ambitious and I’m proud of them, Paradiso 2 is the awkward middle child who’s just vibing and I am vibing along, and then Paradiso 3 is the accidental last-born who I cherish a lot since it was so unexpected and therefore it made me deal with shit I didn’t think I would have to deal with. And for that, e pare stella is on the list.

the only thing I ever do with my spare time is read so I have some recommendations if you are an avid shipper of wolfstar, drarry, anderperry, snowbaz, klance and the list goes on and on. so here, my gift to you, unsuspecting reader.

(these might be popular so don’t hate on me for regurgitating good reviews)

1. The Wicker King by K. Ancrum

holy smokes. this book is a masterpiece. i cried like a baby. i probably had snot all over my face. man. this story is perfect for those who love a obsessive best friend to lovers type thing. the chapters are short so the story is very immersive. its a 5/5 for me.

2. Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo

ghosts. reckless and musty boys. very gay. gotta say this novel checked off all the boxes. it took me a while to get into but once i did i was in love. this book, like all of these, deals with heavy topics in a masterful way. i don’t know just read and weep.

3. If We Were Villians by M.L. Río

huh. i have not gotten over this one. it centers more around the mystery than the queer ship but damn it’s an amazing book. i was in school just gasping at the plot twists. a great one for those searching for a dark academia, mystery, Shakespearean thing.

4. In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan

if i could read this book for the first time ever i would be completely fulfilled as a human. there’s a lot of story and plot bc it takes place over a span of multiple years. but it has a similar whimsy to Harry Potter and i could not put it down. it was incapacitating. elliot is my comfort character and that will never change. he’s a wonder and so is this book. READ IT.

anyhow. most of these resemble each other because im a creature of habit. they are incredibly satisfying reads so I urge you to at least read the blurb. peace!

Best/worst title?

For best, I really love Thirst Trapped; it just so perfectly embodies the fic, and helped set the plot when I got lost halfway through writing. (Although, for humor, does it get better than 5 Times Simon Tried To Use Baz's Fangs Like A Swiss Army Knife + 1 Time He Didn't?) I'm also pretty partial to The Real Tragedy (Is How Many Years I've Lived Without You In Them) even though I think it's a bit pretentious.

For worst, probably When I Feel Alive (I just have a love/hate relationship with this fic lol) because I always forget what it's about. The title just really doesn't do it for me.

Best/worst summary?

I'm pretty blah about summaries; I don't have the patience for them, generally like to leave bits of my story to be discovered rather than forewarned. So mine tend to be fairly short, except for longfics.

For best, I just really love the description for 5 Times Simon Tried To Use Baz's Fangs Like A Swiss Army Knife + 1 Time He Didn't which is simply: "Does what it says on the tin." Classic Christina-sarcasm. If I'm not going with a joke answer, I do also love my summary for The Real Tragedy even though I changed it about a million times while posting:

What if the Watford Tragedy never happened? The arrival of Davy Cadwalladar’s body on Pitch Manor’s doorstep sets in motion a chain of events that leave Basilton Grimm-Pitch wondering just how far he’ll go to prove, once and for all, that Simon Snow is real. All Simon Snow wants to do is tend bar and forget he was ever part of a vigilante group of Mages called ‘Davy’s Men.’ That his childhood love is gone forever, and everything he knew about himself is a lie. Until a mysterious vampire walks into his bar, his life. And his heart.

(Although part of me wishes I could have stopped with just that first line.)

For worst, probably my Love is a Balm fic because it's just "The companion piece to 'Hate is a Poison'" but how else do you describe a 380 word piece?

Best/worst first line?

I pride myself on good first lines...

But if I had to pick worst, it's actually probably from my piece A Christmas Pitch, because I copied The Christmas Prince:

“Chris. Chris!” I shout, chasing Watford Magazine’s head writer down the hallway.

It doesn't really set the tone of how this piece turned out, and does nothing to introduce the central drama.

As for BEST first line, I do have two that immediately come to mind, both from COC because I did work really hard on those opening lines (with a short piece, every sentence needs to punch):

From Out Of The Cold: "Winter adorns his curly hair with perfect snowflakes and I’m so in love it hurts."

From Love is a Balm: "I shatter myself into pieces on the stained mattress of my unfurnished flat."

Although, for humor, I really love “I can’t believe you bought us a race car bed, Snow.” from vroom vroom 2: Watford Drift.

Best/worst last line?

Oh man. A couple of candidates for best:

From vroom vroom 2: Watford Drift: "But we don’t invite Shepard in (not yet.) Instead, I pull Simon tight against me, snug in our bed (2017, ruby red. Perfect.)"

From The Real Tragedy: "Because now I know Tyrannus Basilton Grimm-Pitch is the love of my life.

And I’m going to find him.

Or my name isn’t Simon Snow." (I still get chills every time.)

But most of my best last lines are only good when paired with my first lines (I try to make them match whenever possible).

For my worst end line, ok and it's maybe not "the worst" worst but I really wish Turn Around (Don't) had a better ending: "I smile at the promise. And wait." It's no where near as punchy as I wanted it to be, but eh.

Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?

Um obviously more hahaha. I wrote 4 fics in 2020 and... 65 fics in 2021.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted last year?

I mean, obviously my Shitty/Bittle story for the Check Please fandom, because a) I hadn't even read Check Please last year and b) it's a total rare pair. But I'm really please with how it turned out, even though it's never going to get the readership it deserves.

And smut as the genre because I thought I'd never do it, and here we are with 12 Explicit fics!

What’s your favourite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.

The Wrong Sider is always my answer to this, because it honestly reads like an actual novel to me, and I love all of the elements I wove into it. I think I could read it over, and over, and over again.

Okay, NOW your most popular story.

Hard to say? If we're going hits it's obviously The Wrong Sider but that's because the HP fandom is larger. In the SnowBaz world, it's obviously Thirst Trapped. I was overwhelmed with the response to that fic - like, I've never seen my inbox blow up like that before (and probably won't).

Story most underappreciated by the universe?

If we're going anticipated vs real, it's The Real Tragedy, even though it's honestly doing fine and people have been really receptive of it. I think I just expected more because of the amount of world-building I did for it.

If we're going straight up views/kudos, it's obviously my works that don't include big ship followings, like my MalMage fics, the OC/Lamb story I wrote, and my Agatha/Niamh piece. None of that really bothers me though.

There were a few COC pieces that I loved and felt sad when people weren't as interested in them, like Care For Me, Think Happy Thoughts and my Trouble series, but I really can't complain because I was churning out a lot of content at that time and it's understandable if pieces got lost.

Story that could have been better?

So many of my earlier smut works, Here Comes The Boy is one I think about a lot (I do love the premise, but I still feel like the beginning doesn't match the end and that bugs me).

Sexiest story?

Probably Disturbed, Depraved (Delightful) (which I wrote in one day because I couldn't find the energy to finish Santa Baby lol). I wanted it to reflect real sex, and not the storybook romance sex my fics normally portray.

Saddest story?

I've gotta go with Always is a Promise because it broke my heart to put Simon and Baz on opposite sides of the afterlife, yearning for one another. But also the Simon chapter in The Real Tragedy because him pretending to be tough and becoming increasingly disillusioned just really hurts.

Most fun?

Come on. It's my vroom vroom series obviously. Tell me they aren't a romp and a half. Like Baz, you hate that you like it.

Story with single sweetest moment?

I'm not sure? But I do love Simon taking care of Baz when Baz's mom doesn't Visit in Some Tears We Keep. Oh, and probably Harry using the Resurrection Stone so Baz and Simon can meet their moms in The Mirror Pair.

Hardest story to write?

Every story has its moments for the most part... but I did take a three month hiatus with A Christmas Pitch because I got so bored with it. Plus, it was my first longfic so there were definitely some painful moments.

Easiest/most fun story to write?

Hands down A Crack In The Wall. I think I wrote that fic over the course of a week because it possessed me and wouldn't let me stop. I spent half of Easter weekend at the beach writing it because the words wouldn't stop coming.

Did any stories shift your perceptions of the characters?

I mean, every story shifts my perceptions of the characters lol because in every story I bend them a bit to my own viewpoint. I will say in Fucking Ruthless the characters shifted MY perceptions because it refused to be written as I'd planned. I had to soften Baz to finish it.

Most overdue story?

Not sure what this means... I mean, I'm overdue for Santa Baby (but I think I left it at an OK stopping point, and I don't think it's a SUPER holiday fic despite the theme, so I'm ok finishing it in the new year.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

I mean, writing 31 fics for COC, writing smut for the first time, writing my first textfic, writing for different fandoms and ships… I had a lot of writing firsts this year. I think one thing I’ve learned the most is how to start in the middle (honestly a problem because now I don’t want to write longfics anymore). I’ve also learned how to tell a story in a brief amount of time. And I’ve learned that while I’m never going to be a prolific smut writer I can pull it off when I want to (lol).

This year’s theme and the story that demonstrates it most:

You want me to analyze 65 fics and come up with a theme?!?! I mean, come on. The theme is always love, the different ways we find it, the different ways we express it, the different ways we deny it... in that case I think there are two stories that showcase my overall theme, the pairing of The Chain (Tell Me What You Want) and Who Holds The Power, which are meant to be parallel fics that show MalMage vs SnowBaz.

What are your fic writing goals for next year this year?

Is it weird that I don’t really have any? I did so much this past year I just want to… enjoy it. I know I’m getting closer to wanting to write my original fiction. I’d like to finish my Phantom piece, and maybe write another SnowBaz longfic, but other than that I'm kind of "whatever happens, happens" about the new year.

Positively Glowing is one of the first monsterfucker fics I've read in this fandom and I regularly daydream about it. Then while writing up this list, I discovered there was a sequel and I screamed. These two fics are hot, hot, hot. And funny, and charming, and they sometimes make you wail "oh god, no whyyyyyyy" but you'll love it. The author is incredible with smut, but also good at these sweet moments of intimacy that make your insides all soft. If you're ready to lean into our dragon boy in heat with baby fever, then here you go. It doesn't get better than this.

Rose-Colored Glasses - SFW - by @you-remind-me-of-the-babe

Sometimes a fic can wrap around you like a quilted blanket. All soft and fluffy and warm. This is one of those fics. It has Saturday vibes and living room dancing, the comfort of being friends and the exciting possibility of so much more. Plus a smart use of rose-tinted glasses as a cursed object. Read if you're looking for a friends-to-lovers fic that will put a goofy grin on your face.

Restoration Ecology - NSFW - by @captain-aralias

I'm obsessed. There's only one chapter out and I am cackling maniacally. Simon. Simon in this fic. He is so hot and angry for Baz. I can't get enough of the feisty boy - well man since the fic is set 10 years after Watford. The cannon divergence and world-building the author weaves into the storytelling is *chef's kiss* and then the hate sex...🥵 And that's all in the first 4k words, people. Join the fun, play along - this is bound to be a ride.

You Can Have It - NSFW - by @mostlymaudlin

It's amazing how a single twist of canon can result in such wonderfully sexy situations. This body swap fic starts with a familiar Carry On scene and then gives some NSFW goodness. The newness of Simon and Baz's relationship in the fic plays well with the nerves and excitement of seeing parts of each other for the first time. The whole thing is yum. I described the fic in my original comment as "spicy honey mustard," hot, but with a touch of sweetness.

And scene. Another week in the books. Inspired by @mostlymaudlin I revamped the google sheet I use to track these recs to also include to-reads and oh boy, do I have a lot of them. Still - I'm always open to suggestions! Share your faves ❤️

phil lets everyone dress up for the halloween weekend as long as they wear the nametag and hat

tubbo dresses up as a bee (it matches the pin on his visor :D)

tommy tries to “dress up” as schlatt, but gets denied as soon as he walks in the door

wilbur, the shift lead, decides that tommy can just. wear a sheet over his head with the eyes cut out

he has to wear the hat and nametag on the sheet tho

wilbur, quackity, and fundy decide it would be hilarious to all wear their uniforms backwards

hats, shirts, aprons, pants, it’s all backwards

wilbur asks fundy if hes gonna wear his fursuit (this is before the philza smackdown)

fundy is Not Pleased

the dream team + karl dress up as hogwarts students

instantly the favorites from all the kids who come into the store

technoblade dresses up as a vampire

isnt allowed to ring people up because of the fake fangs

eret dresses up as a king, also attempts to wear those like 5 inch platform heels

the reason he cant is because he kept hitting his head on things

niki dresses up as wednesday addams

phil told her she wasnt allowed to keep the crossbow on her :(

schlatt just shows up in his everyday clothes

when quackity asks who hes dressed up as schlatt just responds

“God”

no one else asks any questions

the proofer incident

one time tubbo was sick and couldn’t work his shift

everyone else was busy so phil let tommy and wilbur work it alone

since tubbo always bakes the bread, tommy had to do it

(for context, you have to proof bread before you bake it so it rises)

so tommy placed all the dough in the proofer to proof

but he didnt set the timer right

cut to a few hours later

the two are just finishing up a big rush when wilbur looks into the proofer

“tommy, you do know how to set the timer on the proofer, right?”

“what timer?”

tommy looks into the proofer

its just

dough

so much dough

(when you overproof dough it gets really big)

wilbur starts CACKLING

tommy just. stares

they run out of bread that evening

languages

tubbo asks niki to teach him german one night

niki decides to hang up a bunch of sticky notes on items around with the store with the german word for it

fundy and quackity begin to do the same for dutch and spanish respectively

phil tells them as long as its in the back room he doesnt mind

speedrunning sandwiches

dream is hella good at making sandwiches

prides himself on being pretty damn good at his job

one day he hears rumors about a worker from another subway store who is super fast at making sandwiches

dream, curious, asks what location and decides to pay a visit to this newfound competitor

when he gets there, he meets illumina

the guy is just so fast at making sandwiches

dreams internal monolouge: “oh, this is my new rival”

as illumina is making his sandwich hes just like. mentally taking notes

he starts going to the other subway like about 3-4 days a week

everytime he asks for illumina to make his sandwich

every single time

time skip to two ish weeks later or smth

dream has made way too many google docs and spreadsheets over this

once he was editing it on the company computer and sapnap caught him and just stared in horror

he goes into the subway to order another sandwich and asks for illumina again

as dream is paying illumina kinda asks

“hey, so uh, is there a reason that you come in here like every day and always request that i make your sandwich?”

dream just. Freezes

its a weird conversation

the kitten incident(s) -an expansion on an idea by @trademarked-but-not-really !

schlatt, despite the façade he puts up, is a big softie

one time he finds a tiny kitten on his way to work

in a split second decision he just. brings the kitten to work

places the cat in his cubby behind his sweatshirt

during his lunch break he goes to the back room to play with the kitten

quackity catches schlatt holding the kitten and baby-talking it

“who’s a good kitty? you are! you-”

“uh, schlatt, what are you doing?”

quackity gets so much blackmail

“if you tell anyone about this you’re dead.”

quackity uses his blackmail to get out of so much stuff

after that incident, schlatt gets better at hiding the kittens

there are still some slip ups tho

phil: “is that cat hair on the floor?”

schlatt, hiding a kitten in his apron: “no... hopefully”

after his shift he always brings the kittens to the local animal shelter

he also volunteers there during his free time

one time niki comes in to adopt a cat and walks in only to see schlatt holding 3 small kittens

one in each hand, and another climbing up his shoulder

they just -stare- at eachother

needless to say, another person gains blackmail on schlatt that day

trade-offs

tommy, tubbo, and wilbur haggle and trade doing certain tasks

mainly sweeping the store and stocking the chips display

these trades get VERY intense

“i’ll start on freezer pulls if you sweep and mop” “only if you do prep work tomorrow” “deal!”

“i’ll let you bake bread and cookies if you also stock the chip display” “ugh, fine”

one day phil comes in to do inventory just to see the three boys standing by the task list screaming at each other

luckily only bad and skeppy were in the shop

schlatt and wilbur origins

when schlatt first started working at subway, he always got paired with wilbur on shifts

(this is before tommy and tubbo started working at subway)

they got along like a house on fire

they always made up bets to complete while they worked

on their first shift alone they decided to play a hellish rendition of “the floor is lava”

whoever lost had to buy the others meals for a month

skeppy and bad agreed to be the referees for the day

they took extra chairs from the back and placed them around the shop so they could get around without touching the floor

they even put chairs behind the bain (the area behind the counter)

after they set everything up, the game began

from then on, they spent the whole day perched on chairs

customers were

very confused

to say the least

many tasks were done poorly or not at all in an attempt to win the bet

the two survive until the end of the day with no major failures

in a last ditch attempt to win, schlatt made a dramatic final speech and pushed wilbur from the chair he was standing on

skeppy recorded the whole speech

unfortunately, wilbur hit the floor just as phil arrived

the manager in question was PISSED

wilbur and schlatt were banned from working together in the future

Twelve Days of Fic Appreciation - Day 11

we’re skipping day 10/combining day 10 with day 11, so i can coast into the 25th of December on Day 12.

Post recommending an au that you love.

this one is too hard - particularly since, as we all know, there are two types of AU - AU canon divergence, and different setting. and, as we all know, both are good!! my AO3 wrapped has a nice list of some of my favourite long-form AUs this year.

another writer who has absolutely smashed 2021 is @nightimedreamersworld - she writes BOTH types of AU, and both kinds do the kind of thing i love from this genre (that i love). really cool thinking about what would be different - and the AU is based on the thing that is different; really strong focus on keeping the characters the same. not too much repetition from canon. SLOW BURN. plooooot.

it would be tough to choose just one, but i think Dance Like a Flame - in which baz is fae, rather than a vampire, is possibly my absolute favourite. the way baz is fae is absolutely important to everything about the story - it’s the instigating factor, it affects how he views the world and his relationships, it works beautifully with the way he plays the violin and it leads baz and simon on a completely different mystery together. damn good :D i also recommend the remix: Song on the Wind [the roses remix] by @urban-sith which does a similar job to the original, in terms of being the same but different, with tonnes of great ideas.

also this year by this writer, i LOVED:

How I wonder what you are - accidental baby acquisition after break up! AU canon divergence, could be pure fluf but the break-up and baz steeling himself against the relationship he can’t trust (and delightful grimm family antics) makes it feel like a different kind of slow burn.

See You in Court - the first fic i ever read from this author! blew me away. it’s about baz and simon being lawyers, and simon being a dragon.... and is an AU canon diveregence, which is just cool, right? i love this as a possible future for them. first chapter is pure court transcript, and the second half is packed with super plotty intrigue as well as simon and baz not having admitted they’re in a relationship and trying to make it work.

thinking about it - these fics all show snowbaz at different stages of a relationship too, which is also awesome, and shows the author’s range. honestly, everything is good - i also super recommend her remix: When in Blackpool (the 'second chances' remix) <-- which is AU different setting, where they didn’t get together at school, and has some seriously dreamy nostalgia/flirting going on.

Maybe Michael didn't have to use Open Sesame on the doors to the dining hall, but he felt like it. chapter two

Michael was pretty much already dressed when Luke woke up. chapter three

Every time he asked, Michael managed to change the subject.

6. everything is never as it seems (when i fall asleep) 5sos, muke

Luke’s flat was filled with smoke as his potion bubbled over the pan, spitting out at him as if it wanted to attack him ― which honestly, was probably a suitable punishment since he hadn't been paying much attention to the love potion at all

Michael wasn't too sure what to do about his current situation, honestly.

10. untitled soulmate fic harry potter, wolfstar — currently 1.3k, i impulse started this tonight after i told gigi about an angsty wolfstar soulmate au idea i had and they encouraged me to add yet another wolfstar fic to my docs :’)

11. untitled baby fic the raven cycle, pynch — currently 3.7k. have i finished the raven king yet? no. however that’s not important, ronan lynch accidentally dreaming up him and adam’s baby, despite them not even dating, is important !! i wrote almost 4k in one sitting and then planned to write it the next day however. someone (me) got sick and then someone (also me) went to a 5sos concert and now someone (me) is sick and lacking the braincells for writing so! it’ll probably be finished soon, pynch is on my brain a lot right now actually

12. i know this whole damn city thinks it needs you (but not as much as i do) harry potter, wolfstar — currently 1.6k, this is my spiderman wolfstar au that’ll probably take about two years to fucking finish at this point :’)

13. untitled starstruck fic 5sos, malum — currently 7k ish, this one has taken a… very long time, it’s never really been my top priority fic wise however. i think i might make it my top priority? it deserves it, hopefully it’ll be great when it’s finished!

It was 3am and Luke was watching an old, shitty recording of a Calum Hood concert.

14. look up here, i’m in heaven carry on, snowbaz — 1.1k! i actually finished this AND posted it ages ago however i convinced myself it was dogshite so i deleted it like a lot of my shorter fics

Baz had always liked smoking.

15. you’re my lover boy (i could be your baby) pjo/hoo, valdangelo — currently 4.6k despite me not even being finished with the second scene of this 5 + 1! it’s 5 times leo kissed nico and one time nico kissed leo :) including but not limited to: the first kiss, the dared kiss and the accidental kiss!

It wasn’t often that the Seven & Co. hung out when there wasn’t a battle to fight.

16. you’re not my homeland anymore (so what am i defending now?) harry potter, regulus black & sirius black — currently 1.6k :) another 5 + 1 fic, also it’s NOT incest i promise i just wanted to write an angsty fic exploring the decline of their relationship as brothers as a gift to gigi <3

Regulus Black sobbed into his brothers arms, begging him not to leave him.

17. untitled marauders fic (but it’ll probably be called how evergreen, our group of friends!) harry potter, multiship, wolfstar centric — currently 3.7k, it’s a BIG sirius centric fic, i have abt a 15k doc just planning it but it’s proving to be difficult to write bc sirius is a difficult character for me to get in the head of, especially in the beginning when he’s like, fresh from eleven years straight of only knowing a life of abuse and not really realising it’s abnormal? hits a wee bit close to home however! i’m gonna write it, i’m determined. not sure i’ll ever post it tho hfkdks

18. untitled black widow annabeth x avenger percy pjo/hoo, percabeth — currently 4.8k. i don’t actually have a whole lot of this fic to write… literally like fucking. maybe another couple of thousand words. i could finish this in about an house… hm. inch resting

19. i’m losing myself in you (and you, and you, and you) 5sos, ot4 — currently 2.4k! this is a fun hogwarts au, i don’t actually remember writing ANYTHING of what’s already been written, pretty sure i was high the last time i opened this doc so that’s fun! idk if i’ll ever finish this, it was completely based on the idea of luke going to a quidditch match and being layered with four house scarves (his own and all three of his boyfriends) so that he could cheer them all on. however! this one has been on the back burner for fucking ages so. not sure if it’ll ever be finished rip

Luke Hemmings was pretty sure that he was going to die… or combust, or something else that was fairly fucking dramatic.

okay that’s it! so sorry if you read all of this, i don’t even remember half of what i wrote but! yeah. i think all i can learn from the majority all of my first lines is that :) for some reason using the character who’s pov i’m exploring’s first name has a huge chokehold on me. i think it might be the fact that around the time i started writing properly i was reading heroes of olympus for the first time and rick tends to do that with all of his chapters. maybe. idk! i don’t do it all the time but i kinda like doing it, it makes my work feel a little more meish. anyway yes thank u for ur time xx
