I didn't get him (and I need to save my keys for Silver's birthday, sob) so I looked up his groovy, and I'm not over how incredibly dramatic and epic and cool it looks in direct contrast to the absolutely ridiculous context. just look at that dynamic action and his majestic sparkling tears and keep in mind that this is pretty much right after a bunch of characters have been dance battling for his soul.

and then even the actual moment of the groovy is just like

this is NOT a negative in the slightest, I love it all, this truly was an incredible update in so many ways

'vil no! if they were to harm your beauty i would be crushed by sorrow!' <- actual dialogue #also neige seeing vil as a mother figure. it's WONDERFUL and i hope real-vil never finds out because this would kill him #just like he killed neige multiple times in his own dream! :) #there was so much wild stuff in this update and not in the least was that the second time vil realized he was in a dream #his reaction was to KILL EVERYONE and cackle maniacally about it #god forbid a queen do anything i guess #anyway i also love the contrast between what i assumed savanarook would be like and what he was actually like #'he looks so wild...what kind of dangerous dream will this mighty hunter have...' #oh no he's actually just an adorable movie geek who is SO EXCITED to share his hyperfixation with us #somehow less intimidating than regular rook #and yet still a delightful little freak. his BEDROOM #the background artist went SO ham on it. truly the magnum opus of twst backgrounds #there are a bunch of little details it is SO worth zooming in on #(including a tiny little picture of che'nya! which...actually i think that implies rook may have stolen an rsa yearbook or something) #(that's our rook! /sitcom laugh track)

I feel a lot of belief that “trans women obviously have it worse than trans men” it comes from assuming men & women are opposites & that their experiences must be opposite as well. As in, if trans women experience one thing, trans men must experience the opposite—but that’s not how it works in practice. Trans women are demonized and sexualized doesn’t mean trans men aren’t as well. Trans women feeling less safe after transition doesn’t mean trans men feel more safe. And transmasculinity being considered disgusting mutilation doesn’t translate to the opposite for transfemininity! I just wish we would stop comparing experiences as though they can be quantified & pitted against one another.

#not in all cases of course it’s just something I noticed a lot in whipping girl #she kept making claims about transmasculine experiences on little to no actual evidence to contrast with transfem experiences #to support the idea that trans women don’t just have it bad - they have it THE worst #that’s been my experience with the book so far at least which sucks bc I went into it really liking Serano and being excited #transandrophobia #transphobia #intracommunity issues tag #mine

#books #book photography #books of 2024 #welcome to your world #sarah williams goldhagen #i've stared at this caption for fourteen years and can't come up with anything reasonably concise to say lol #i like architecture as a concept! #i used to collect floor plan clippings out of newspapers when 1. we got paper newspapers and 2. that was a Section in them #my parents got me some floor plan books for my birthday one year and i still have those #i just. like architecture?? as a Thing?? #but i know very little about it so. i saw this (can't remember where) #and i'm hoping it will Tell Me More! #this has been on my shelf for a few years but i think it is Time #(brought to you by: i also got an architecture book about obsolescence that i want to read soon too) #(but i feel like i should Start With Background and THEN do technical textbook lol) #anyway! #excited!! this is not a one armed bedtime read though it is so fucking DENSE and has very thick high quality glossy paper XD #lots of pictures too #it feels like a LOT of book but it's not actually that long (~300pgs)

you knew better. you were taught better. it was damn near hammered, letter by letter, word by word, onto the backs of your eyelids.

avoid faerie circles at all costs.

and yet—here you were. it started off only as a little hop, a skip, a sway of your skirt, your chin tilted toward the endlessly blue sky. before you knew it, the barren forest suddenly grew crowded, more and more beings emerging from their hiding spots. they sang with voices so sharp that if you listened too hard, you’re sure your ears would bleed. they danced so eloquently that if you focused too hard, you’re sure your eyes would pop from their sockets. their faces were so beautiful that if you looked too hard—

“You’re a pretty thing, aren’t you?” his voice was a deep croon to the side of you. you hadn’t even noticed when he glided his way to you, his shock of white hair and lashes that framed unnaturally blue eye. he was gorgeous, in his silken robes and lanky figure, his form blurring at the edges when you stared a bit too hard, makes your head pound in warning.

“Hello to you too,” you smile at the handsome man—faerie? was that not what he was, with the unnatural way he smiled too wide and his too perfect proportions? but he doesn’t seem to notice your inner dilemma, instead takes your hand and dances you round and round and round until your feet ache and your chest burns from the laughter he pulls from you.

“Can I have the name of the person I’ll dance with for the rest of their life?” he asks you, coy, when the sun has set and the forest only grows thicker with his people. you’re getting tired, know that soon you’ll regret trekking this deep into the thick greenery. your guard is lowered; you make another mistake; first the dancing; now your name; your soon to be sealed fate.

the faerie grins wide at you, suddenly stepping into the circle, dragging you with him despite the way your heels try to dig into the soft earth.

“And now you’re mine, beautiful little human.” he tells you with an uncanny grin, beautiful and wrong all at once. his eyes grow too ocean blue, his hands ice cold where they drag you into the circle by the wrist. your stomach sinks when you enter Faerie, your feet aching, your heart heavy knowing that you’ll never see your family again.

I'd probably have to read the printed version and web version back to back at some point to note all the differences but... ough

#sorry i'm going to be excited about this comic for the next month #nofna #okay having finished this now-- #and sorry if this doesn't make sense to anyone who's completely unfamiliar with this comic in advance- #the 'popcorn ending' (printed version) is nice to see but i think the web version hits harder. if that makes sense #so i'm kinda tied on which ending i 'prefer'- i think both are good though #also considering i've read the web version a good 4-5 times and the printed version only once- i probably can't make that judgement yet #easy answer- i do like Nutsedge :] so it's nice to see the ending where nothing bad happens to her #but also- NT suddenly becoming a greenie-esque villain out of nowhere felt a little jarring #as well as SV suddenly turning a corner and becoming a 'good guy' (arguable)- considering the first three books are about #/him being too stubborn to change or accept any outside worldviews . Him suddenly coming to his senses felt out of place #<- probably biased because i like characters being bitter to the end and ultimately destroyed by their own hubris #the web version is probably‚ objectively‚ a bit better #but - #(spoilers- if you're planning to drop ~70 bucks on getting these books) #the conceit of SV actually perfecting his style‚ using it once‚ and then immediately getting tooth-brained- was pretty cool #assuming it's meant to parallel him spending months tormented by trying to perfect it while something's still missing- #and then dying before he can narrate it to the audience‚ so that we never know what he figured out. #hard to articulate these thoughts but tl;dr- popcorn ending also had a lot to think about
