Graystripe's Heart (or Hope's Beginning)
The (Short) Return Of Bloodclan and Redemption of ???
Shortly after the rescue of Darkkit, Rogues begin being spotted on the outskirts of the Clans.  Windclan claims someone is stealing prey, Riverclan smells intruders on the borders, and worst of all, Shadowclan has detected Bloodclan scent on the Thunderpath.  So Longstar sends Graystripe (still mourning his mother) and Sandstorm to find out the truth, with Fireheart demanding to come along – the Stars say it’s important!
So the three cats set off to Fireheart’s old Twoleg Den, meeting Smudge and his new mate Hattie.  The two Kittypets tell the Can cats about the return of Bloodclan under a cat named Fury – but also of a pair of cats making a peaceful group, and trying to dismantle Bloodclan as well.  The new unnamed Clowder’s leaders are unknown, save that they’re a scarred tom and a brown molly.
The Kittypets and Clan cats are interrupted by Gremlin and Scraps, siblings from the Unnamed Clowder, warning that Bloodclan Recruiters are chasing the pair of them.  The Clan Cats hide under the edge of the Twoleg den with Gremlin, and a cat named Snake attempts to attack Smudge and Hattie for protecting Scraps.  Hattie slaps the crap out of Snake, but a few more Bloodclan cats appear, and Scraps tries to surrender himself to save the Kittypets (and his hidden sister). But a twisted, gravely snarl sends the Bloodclanners running, and a heavily scarred tom approaches a relieved Scraps.
A highly familiar black striped gray tabby, with a horrid scar on his throat.
--DARKSTRIPE?!?!?--
Graystripe bolts from under the Twoleg den, with Sandstorm and Fireheart nearly riding his frazzled tail.  The former Clan cat goes bushy with startlement as they approach, but Fireheart keeps Graystripe and Sandstorm from tearing him apart.  Scraps, very confused, identifies Darkstripe as the Unnamed Clowder’s tom leader, and Gremlin chirps that he ran off her abusive former mate!  Full of conflicting emotions, Graystripe demands an explanation, and Darkstripe wheezes out, with tears in his eyes…how sorry he is.  But he won’t fight them, he probably deserves what’s coming – and Fireheart cuts him off.  Let’s talk somewhere else, somewhere safer.  Darkstripe nods, and after Fireheart extracts a promise from Sandstorm to not just kill her former Clanmate the second his back is turned, the scarred tomcat leads the Clan Cats and the siblings into the Twoleg Territory.
After some Very Tense Travel, the group comes to an abandoned Twoleg den, the walls covered in strange Twoleg berrypaint art.  Darkstripe leads them to a small opening, guarded by a pair of scraggly but friendly cats.  They greet Darkstripe and the siblings with unashamed friendliness, and the Clan cats are surprised to find themselves greeted with similar cheer.  After introductions are made, Hazard and Snaggle let everyone into the Den.
Inside is a well set-up camp, with obvious dens for nursing parents and kits, elders being cared for by a few younger cats, and a prey pile, with freshkill and a cat dismantling a large bird.  Darkstripe is greeted warmly, and the Clan Cats are experiencing a great deal of emotions.  Sandstorm is still rightfully angry – Darkstripe tried to kill Sorrelkit!  Fireheart is wary but hopeful – maybe Darkstripe has changed?  These cats seem to think highly of him!  And Graystripe?
Graystripe wonders who Darkstripe really is.  Because the cat he sees is NOTHING like the older brother he thought had died at his claws.  The older brother he loved still, somewhere deep inside.
A brown colorpoint molly greets Darkstripe, and introduces herself as Sasha.  The pair sit the Clan cats down in a private alcove and explain what’s happened.  Darkstripe was groomed by Tigerclaw (Darkstripe and Sasha both refusing to add the Star even sarcastically to his name) and was rescued from the battlefield by an injured Sasha, who was looking for Tigerclaw as well.  She had been his secret mate (to which Sandstorm shudders at) and had realized how horrible a cat Tigerclaw truly was only after her injury.  The two of them had healed from their respective injuries – Sasha only stating it was Tigerclaw’s fault – and had tried to go on together.  But there were so many cats that needed help, and with Darkstripe’s Clan knowledge and Sasha’s kind nature, they had formed a Clowder.  Somewhere that they could atone for their sins and make a better future for street cats.  Sandstorm demands to know if that should keep her claws out of Darkstripe’s hide, and Fireheart has to jump on her to stop it, but Graystripe pushes forward.
You’re sorry. Yes, Darkstripe tearily mewls.
You’re sorry for Sorrel. Yes, he states clearly.
For Bramble and Tawny.  Yes, he sighs.
For Stonefur, for Fireheart.  Yes! Darkstripe sputters.
For mother?  YES!  He yowls!
For ME?!
YES!!! Darkstripe screams, raspy and broken.
And Graystripe LUNGES.
He catches Darkstripe in a tight embrace and sobs.
Mother will be so proud of you in Starclan.  I’m so proud of you.
Sandstorm sputters from under the (teeny tiny itty bitty) weight of Fireheart as the brothers weep into each other’s fur, one more wound of Tigerclaw’ wickedness beginning to heal.
Sasha asks Fireheart and Sandstorm for advice off to the side, as she’s no Healer or Brawler, but some cats have been interested, and would they mind giving advice while they’re here?  Sandstorm startling agrees, with Fireheart patting her on the shoulder cheerily.  The pair head off with Sasha, leaving the brothers some privacy.
By the time Graystripe and Darkstripe have pulled themselves together, it’s dusk, and Sandstorm and Fireheart have been busy.  Fireheart has a group of cats huddled around a Queen and her kits and Gremlin, listing the signs of kit diseases, and Sandstorm is running a group training session, with Scraps actually knocking down a cat larger than him to wild and enthusiastic cheering.  Graystripe joins a group of cats fixing up some nests, lending a paw and some advice, and Darkstripe leans on Sasha, drained but finally whole in some small way.  Fireheart calls the Clowder a hope for the future and a good place to rest, and Gremlin loudly proclaims they should be the Hope Clowder!  The cry is taken up, and the Unnamed Clowder becomes the Hope’s Rest Clowder (Hope Clowder for short).
The Clan Trio stays the night, and the next morning are awoken by Snaggle hollering that Bloodclan is on the move.  Everyone wakes quickly, and the Clowder Cats barricade the entrance, leaving only a peephole.  A group of Bloodclan cats are headed straight for Thunderclan!
Sandstorm demands that the Clan Cats leave to warn the Clans, but startlingly some Hope Clowder Cats ask Darkstripe and Sasha if they can help take down Bloodclan there as well – they’re weaker spread out in two places, and there are cats that need rescuing from Bloodclan’s clutches!  Fireheart tells Graystripe and Sandstorm to go warn the Clans, and asks if he can help the Clowder rescue the prisoners.  Darkstripe agrees, and Graystripe charges his brother with protecting the cat he once tried to kill.
Sandstorm and Graystripe escort a small group of Hope Clowder Cats to the border of Thunderclan, and Graystripe rushes ahead to warn Longstar ahead of the approaching Bloodclan cats.  Graystripe yowls out his warning to the Camp Guards, who repeat the warning as cats begin scrambling to battle and defense positions.  Longstar asks where Sandstorm and Fireheart are, my guy they BETTER be fine, and Graystripe assures him they are, just as the first Bloodclan cat leaps over the camp wall.
Chaos ensues, but suddenly Sandstorm and her volunteers charge the Bloodclanners from behind, scattering the Bloodclan Rogues.  Fury is downed by a furious (HA) Flamewish, who bodily throws the molly over the camp wall, with her living followers rushing away.  Sandstorm keeps the Thunderclanners from attacking the Hope Clowder cats, and they view the Clan with awe and curiosity.  Graystripe and Sandstorm tell Longstar and Flamewish what’s going on, with the Hope Clowder cats chiming in.  Flamewish is Very Concerned about Darkstripe, but Hazard, who came with the Hope Battle Patrol, tells her the story of how Darkstripe saved her from an attacking Bloodclan patrol, and nursed her back to health.  This placates Flamewish, but she still worries about her brother…
Meanwhile--
The rescue Patrol comes to the nearly unguarded Bloodclan encampment, a seemingly abandoned Carrionplace with thin woven silvery reeds forming a strong wall.  Scraps leads the rescuers to a hole in the Carrionplace wall, and everyone slides through with relative ease, save one cat losing some long fur.  They approach a small, enclosed area, with a Twoleg-made Dog Den and several Bloodclan cats guarding the area.  Darkstripe leads half of the patrol to attack the guards, while Sasha and Fireheart lead the other half to rescue the prisoners.
It goes relatively smoothly, with the only hiccup being a guard going for the smaller Fireheart.  The guard later regrets this decision, leaving with less ear and more scarred skin that he started with.  The rescue patrol leads the injured cats back to Hope’s Rest, and after treating them, Fireheart finds himself alone with Sasha.  And finds he has to ask her something.  He’s noticed something important and…
What happened to your kits?
Sasha buckles, and begs Fireheart to not tell a soul – only Darkstripe knows about them.  She had three kits by Tigerclaw, and after losing one of them, and leaving the others somewhere safe, she went to find – and perhaps wound – the cat who hurt her so.  Only to find Tigerclaw dead, and another cat near death, with her pain in his eyes.  Fireheart swears to never tell anyone, save under pain of death.  She sighs, and wonders where her little Tadpole went after his death, and Fireheart tells her of the Afterlives that Starclan knows of.  She weeps then, in relief – he’ll be waiting for her.
After making sure all the patients are stable, Snaggle escorts Fireheart to Thunderclan, and after a quick reunion, the Hope’s Rest Clowder cats head home, laden with herbs and cuttings and instructions and a new ally. Bloodclan is scattered, nevermore to gather the same power again, and all is quiet for a time.
(And in Riverclan, a brown and white tom sleeps peacefully next to a golden brown molly, safe and sound)
(And elsewhere, a black and grey tom rests safely)

Bonefall's Forgotten Warriors
If you've ever set out to make a WC fan project, you've surely heard of Su Susann's Missing Kits. It was a series of authorial statements giving names to previously unnamed cats, and adding interesting little stories to many of them.
But there's also a TON of "Forgotten Warriors" that were created through timeline inconsistencies, offhanded authorial statements, or single throwaway lines in super editions. By their nature, finding these cats on the wiki is a pain in the butt. In this post I hope to compile these cats as a resource for the fandom.
So first, let's define a Forgotten Warrior.
A Forgotten Warrior does not have a big presence. Primrosepaw was first named as a Missing Kit with no mention of her name on the page or in the allegiances. Over time, she has appeared in several books and is now a widely known name in the fandom. But Blossomkit, whose only appearance is in Su Susann's Missing Kits and the worst field guide, will count as a Forgotten Warrior.
A Forgotten Warrior is not just a nondescript Clan cat. For example, if a "ThunderClan warrior" speaks up at a gathering and their name and description is not mentioned, that could be anyone. Same applies to a description that could easily describe an existing character in a Clan-- if a "White ShadowClan Warrior" appears in a modern arc, that may just be Stonewing, BUT, the "Tabby Queen with Distinct Black Markings" of TPB doesn't match any other, so she is a Forgotten Warrior.
A minor appearance inconsistency is not a Forgotten Warrior. Just to pre-empt wiseassery. Blue-eyed Dovewing and Green-eyed Dovewing are not two separate cats-- but I will note down MASSIVE appearance changes in background characters, like the magic color AND gender-changing Stoatfur (just add water!)
(also, I will not be compiling all of the random kittypets, rogues, and loners because there is too many of them. I could, however, be persuaded to compile all cats of a specific group, like The Kin, Sisters, BloodClan, etc.)
This post is an updating list as I find and catalogue more cats. Last update: 8/21/23, version 1.1 Added new category: Sudden Elders
Key: X = No gender F = Female M = Male

Happykit M A fan name for a kitten killed in the Great Battle which the author approved of. Changed to "Weaselkit" by the family tree.
Silverpaw X Appears in the allegiances of Fire and Ice and Forest of Secrets and then vanishes.
Greenflower F Supposed to be the foster mother for Feathertail and Stormfur, forgotten between books and replaced by Mosspelt.
Gorsetail M A pale tom warrior who is trapped by humans during the destruction of the Forest, suddenly replaced by ANOTHER Gorsetail who is a silver-and-white molly in the Po3 arc

Rabbittail M WindClan ancestor of Webfoot who was caught in a human trap for REAL rabbits, but chewed his way out.
Sudden Elders
These cats suddenly appear as elders despite never having been seen before.
Darkfoot M Appears as a WindClan elder without warning when the Clans get to the lake.
Oatwhisker M Appears as a WindClan elder without warning when the Clans get to the lake.
Snaketail M Brown ShadowClan elder with a striped tail
Ivytail F A brown tabby in RiverClan who dies of oil poisoning

the Dead Wife/Mother in childbed before the story habit of grrm’s is my least favourite cos it’s just so casually sexist and contradictory to the main novels. wives in asoiaf have SO much agency and influence whether it be cersei and cat, or even background characters like dorna swyft’s effect on kevan, or the stokeworth women. why is jorah’s first wife, jon arryn’s first two wives, lyarra stark, why did they have no effect beyond their ability to procreate? yes, jorah’s can be explained by his own pathology vis a vis lynesse and daenerys, and the fact the arryn’s have no heirs is a plot point, but these are just the first three that popped into my head. there’s SO many. i can understand how male characters dont care to remember women, how women are erased from history, how they aren’t given the same opportunities as men. i understand this is feudalism, this is the HEIGHT of patriarchy. yet why is the unnamed princess of dorne even unnamed? she was the ruler of dorne during robert’s rebellion, the mother of doran, oberyn and elia. she SHOULD be remembered, she SHOULD have more influence than being remembered as a handmaiden to rhaella. it’s ridiculous! it’s laziness! scream!

Introduction
Greetings and salutations.
I am @rcsthewriter and this is my writeblr.
About Me
As this is anonymous, I won't reveal much but I am a twenty-five-year-old human currently living in the southern hemisphere with an academic background in English Literature, Psychology, and Library Sciences. I dabble in paganism and witchcraft very quietly. To me, life is not worth living if I cannot listen to music and look after my cats. My grammar is pretty terrible but I promise I am working on it.
About This Blog
I grew up writing poetry and stories but this passion was squashed by school and people and life. This blog is a place for me to get back into writing and to test out my (many) ideas. As a long-time lurker in the writeblr community, I am excited to meet other writers and readers. The plan is to write for the characters of my unnamed WIP, to reblog posts that I like, and to engage with other people.
About My Writing
My WIP is a dark academia novel that involves the interweaving of history, science, and magic. I will be delving into the mythologies and folklore of a variety of locations, the horrors of scholarly conspiracies, and the desperate and often obsessive goal to gain knowledge.
That is all for now. I am sure I will add an edit to this post as I get my bearings being an active community member rather than a lurker.
27/01/24 Edit:
I just wanted to add a disclaimer about this blog: None of the photos used in original posts are mine, though they have been edited. They were all found on Pinterest. If you spot your photo and wish to have me remove it, please send me a message and I'll do so.
27/02/24 Edit:
I have created a sideblog that is solely dedicated to reblogs. You can find it at: @rcsthewriterreblogs

Sam calls Tara sweet girl
They learn to cook together
Tara hadn't started puberty when she came to live with Sam. That was a difficult thing to explain to someone with no background information on pretty much anything she needs to know.
Sam worries about what the future looks like for Tara, given her inability to be around people, however with her asthma, learning difficulties, and PTSD, she's covered under the ADA to receive disability once she turns 18, and Sam also benefits from a carer allowance.
Sam gets Tara an emotional support cat. It remains unnamed for 3 weeks, until Tara tells her the cat is called sam, and nothing Sam says will disuade her. Tara isn't ready to tell Sam how much she means to her and how safe and good she makes her feel, but she can tell sam.
When Tara feels especially anxious, Sam puts her in one of her hoodies/jackets to help her calm down.
Sam meets a woman named Kirby Reed at an AA meeting one day, turns out they have a lot in common.
Sam never thought her life would end up involving so many animated movies, but Tara loves them. They end up with several shelves full of them because Tara likes to hold them in her hands and look at the artwork.
Her hallucinations used to be only of her mother. In the aftermath of being attacked there's a period where she can't take her meds and they come back. Now that she knows about her father and the things her mother has done, they morph into Billy sometimes. They both like to talk about Tara, about how she's just going to be the next person to hurt her, that it's in her blood. It terrifies her in a way she's never felt before.

The Name Game: Fox Mulder X Reader
A lil fic about Fox and Reader struggling to name their new kitten. I imagine it’s a black cat if anyone was curious
(pls send suggestions for fics or Fox Mulder hcs hereeeeee)
Tumblr media
“You cannot look in this adorable baby’s eyes and tell me that they don’t scream the name Luna”. Fox is sat cross legged on the carpet playing with your new black kitten who is currently unnamed.
You and Fox have lived together for a little over 4 months at this point, you’d both fallen into a natural routine which benefitted the two of you massively. You would take it in turns to cook, whoever was home first got to choose the movie you’d watch and you both cleaned as you went. Your friends and family had told you that moving in together was a pivotal point for any couple, they had emphasised it to the point that the night before the move you lay in bed worrying that this could ruin your relationship. Obviously, as soon as you saw Mulder the next morning in his moving attire, all worries flew out of your head and had never bothered you since. Living with him was easy and you never seemed to have disagreements.
Until you brought the kitten home.
You’d spent a small fortune buying the fanciest food and water bowls, cat beds and toys that you could find. You’d both done your research about which food would be better for a small kitten and the only food store that stocked it was around 30 minutes away from your home. Each room of your home was fully kitten proofed, you had comfy blankets in each room so they could decide where to sleep, the cat bed was placed in the living room along with the ginormous cat tree which engulfed the corner of the room. You’d both spent that long prepping for the kitten to arrive that it wasn’t until about 2 hours after you had her; you realised you hadn’t decided on a name.
“I just don’t see Luna”. You replied, enticing the kitten over to you with a small treat.
“You don’t see it because you don’t want to see it”. Fox was holding his hand near your kitten, you were terrified of startling her and you both were conscious of getting her used to the smell of both of you so she’d become more comfortable. His tone was hushed but the sass of the words was strong.
“I think it should be something more fun! Like, I don’t know, pyjamas or something”. Your nameless kitten had wandered off to explore before you could even finish your sentence.
“This kitten is going to be an adult cat one day. She can’t be an adult called Pyjamas,” Fox huffed as he stood up to follow the kitten “I just don’t think you’re taking this seriously”.
You scoffed as you stood up to walk after him, “There’s too many cats called Luna! It’s an epidemic! Three people in the office this morning said they had cats called Luna”
“It’s a popular name! How many cats do you know called Pyjamas? Exactly, zero. It’s a dumb name for an elegant cat”
“Fox, we just watched her pee on the kitchen floor, I don’t think she’s going to be that elegant”
***
It wasn’t a real argument- not really. You’d made dinner for each other which a few kisses thrown in as you idly chatted about your day. Both of you trying hard to move the conversation on from the kitten. You’d remark on small things she did that was funny or squeal when she did something cute but neither of you mentioned the name.
You both sat on the sofa after dinner with a blanket over you both as an episode of Golden Girls played on in the background. Your kitten had been crying to be near you both so you gingerly picked her up and placed her on your lap. She curled up and fell asleep on you as you pet her, seeing Fox smile out of the corner of your eye.
“What about Simba?” Fox started.
“Unoriginal, what about Angel?”
“Seems a bit immature, as I said, she’s going to be a mature lady one day. What about Shadow?”
“Too many letters”
“It’s two syallbles”
You’d both reached a stale mate. You felt like whatever you both suggested, the other would find an issue with it. You carried on petting your nameless child and watching Golden Girls.
“It’s just,” you felt Fox place his hand on yours as he began to speak. “It’s such a big decision! She’s ours and I want her to have the perfect name. Something that we both love and that when we look at her; we can 100% see it.” He continued rubbing your hand, “She i-“
Before he could finish what he was saying, your kitten shot up and ran over to the window to look at a sound neither of you seemed to have heard. Her quick movements had scared you, you felt your heart rate increase from the fright and Fox brought your hand to his chest to show you that his heart was pounding as well. You both burst out laughing at how this tiny little cat had scared you both.
“How about Boo? You know…like a fright?”
Fox brought his hands to your face and pressed a kiss against your lips. “I love it”.

Fuck it, here's my attempt at identifying the unnamed background cats in the Into the Wild graphic novel preview. I want to look back on this later and see how many I got right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mousefur (since we see Tigerclaw saving her and she's dusky brown)
Tumblr media
Runningwind, I think (green eyes and brown)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Goldenflower (these panels are when Lionheart gets named as deputy. She's excited for her bro :) )
Tumblr media
Speckletail (I know the main thing everyone remembers Speckletail for is being Snowkit's mom, but she's actually a pretty big xenophobe and it would make sense for her to be glaring at Rusty here. Also there are only so many golden tabbies in this Clan.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Patchpelt (look at him)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Willowpelt my beloved (this could also be Frostfur maybe but I don't think that's likely since she's pretty clearly pale gray and also hanging out with Whitestorm)
Tumblr media
One-eye (she has one eye)
Tumblr media
Dappletail, Halftail, and Smallear (they're so tiny here that who knows though)
Tumblr media
Speckletail, Goldenflower, and... somebody. I don't know who the brown tabby on the top is. Dustpaw's already somewhere else in that panel and Tigerclaw is out murdering Redtail. Maybe Runningwind and I'm wrong about mr green eyes brown-and-white cat but then idk who he would be.
BONUS:
Tumblr media
pretty sure this is a Stonefur or Mistyfoot cameo :)

Do you have any headcanons for the other Kid crew members? Like Haikei or Oscar? Mohawk bros
i have so many headcanons about them, i love them.
(for anyone confused: Haikei, Oscar and Noe are the fan made Kid Pirates who are based off of background and unnamed members of the crew. you can find fanart of them on these blogs: @magnuspirate @ceejindeed and @shipshinablog!)
Haikei:
Watches soap operas with Killer and cries
Will cheats at any card game you play with him
Do not play poker with him, he wins every time
Gets through about 10 jars of hair wax a month from spiking up his mohawk
Very careful with his money and very stingy with it, if someone borrows money from him there's a 20% interest tax (for you it's 10%)
No one has ever seen him without his glasses on, he sleeps with them on and will attack in his sleep if someone tries to remove them
The glasses stay on in the bedroom too, they fell on your head once
Is incredibly clingy, always wants to hug you or be touching you in some way
He probably walks a little like Doflamingo does in this clip from Marineford
Is addicted to red wine
His family back home consists of a super cool single mother and a young sister who he regularly sends money too
He also sends pictures of you back with letters about how great you are (his younger sister thinks you're super cool and has your bounty poster on her wall)
Is addicted to how your perfume/cologne smells and buys a bottle of it just so he can make his room smell like you when you're away
Loves sour sweets
The crew member who pushes the birthday person's head into their cake when they're blowing out their candles (the crew always make 2 because of him)
Knits everyone scarves
Has a bad habit of knitting whilst staring blankly at people, to the point where they have to move out of his eye sight because it's getting creepy
Can read and speak latin for some reason
He has 'matching' stick and poke tattoos with Noe and Wire that he did when they were incredibly drunk (the tattoos look nothing alike)
He has a feathered/fluffy coat collection that only you're allowed to touch
He loves when his clothes smell like you
Oscar:
Needs glasses but will never admit it
Emotional drunk
Gives the best hugs on the whole crew, everyone fights over who gets to hug him
Prioritises hugging you though
Very romantic, he knows what to get you as gifts and plans the best dates
He has a 'secret' scrapbook collection about the future he wants to have with you
Gets through far less hair gel than Haikei does
'Lazy' about 70% of the time during sex, he makes you do the work whilst he just lies there enjoying the view
He's still super good and attentive in bed though and knows exactly what to say/do
A big softie who's always looking out for the weaker members of the crew and protecting them from danger
Loves watching you get dressed in the morning and lies on the shared bed just watching in awe of how perfect you are
He also loves washing your hair
He can bake really well and is in charge of making deserts for meals
Has a small notebook full of everyone's favourite baked treats and their allergies
Always the one who breaks up fights with Killer and easily calms both sides down
Is addicted to hand holding
Number 1 hype man of the crew, he's always cheering everyone on no matter what they're doing
Has a small ginger cat called Rufus that he found abandoned on an island
Rufus has his own bed in your shared room but always ends up joining the cuddling sessions
He likes sketching and always asks you to be his muse
Likes vodka and fancy cocktails
Noe:
Can handle his alcohol better than anyone on the crew
Has a soft spot for children and small dogs
Reads romance and erotic books that he borrows from Killer
Secretly wants to recreate the scenes with you
Has a draw in his wardrobe just full of hats (there's one for every occasion)
Heat walked in on you guys once, it was traumatic for everyone involved
Aims to become the cliche of a suburban mum
Bought the whole matching shirts once but only Haikei, Emma and Noe wear them
He can decorate cakes really well
Oscar and Noe make the birthday cakes for the crew's birthdays
A massive freak in the bedroom, he almost rivals Wire for most freaky on the crew
He has a dead weed plant on his desk that he talks too
Has a calendar hidden in his hat drawer with the important dates to the crew and you circled so he can always remember what's coming up
Celebrates really random anniversaries with you, like 'Happy 2 month anniversary to us doing anal 🥰!'
Incredibly patient and supportive with anyone who's suffering from mental/physical illnesses
Can understand sign language
Writes you awful poems but honestly thinks they're amazing and will not take criticism about them
Makes Killer read his poems before he gives them to you and Killer is always appalled by what he reads
Loves spicy food
Lives to see chaos happen on the crew and will regularly annoy Kid because he finds it funny
The crew regularly questions how Noe managed to pull you and how you tolerate him

Alright so after some thinking about it the end of wano was... just bad. Just really bad. Let’s not talk about some of the rushed fights in the raid or how certain deaths were shit, the ending as in after the raid and peace has reigned was just GARBAGE. The ending wrap up chapters in the first place were just... way too short. We got 5 chapters. FIVE. An arc that spanned 4 years and a month gave us 5 chapters to conclude loose ends. For context Post Enis Lobby was 11 chapters, The Post War arc was 17. And a part of those FIVE chapters was literally Shanks showing up for a movie tie in (Yes Oda admited that). There was absolutely no sense of relaxation and chill after such a chaotic time, it was just go go go! We gotta wrap up!! Like how many loose ends are left now? The smile victims? Couldn’t we have the three doctors on the island look into that? Or at least Chopper? Just gonna sweep that under the rug? What about the beast pirate remnants? Sure Greenbull attacked SOME but are they still on Wano? Did he kill ALL of them?? Are they prisoners? Is Yamato keeping them in line? We’re just never gonna talk about the once largest pirate crew in the world ever again? Okay... What about Marco? Surely he wasn’t just there to literally drop off Cat Viper and stall for time right? Oh he was? He didn’t even talk to the Straw Hats after the raid? Cool cool, glad he served such an important role... Now don’t get me wrong, there was some hype stuff like the road poneglyph and underwater old Wano and Pluton being there but like... That’s all? That’s all we get from the biggest arc to date? Think about all the revelations in the old post-major arc cooldown chapters, all the hype all the EVERYTHING that Wano just doesn’t have...  Oh but Kid mentioned a vague person who could help him with the poneglyph etchings... Cool... That’s definitely up there with the reveal of Garp. Now all this isn’t even to mention the absolute CHARACTER ARC ASSASSINATIONS Carrot and Yamato got. Carrot was basically an unnamed background character this whole arc. What did she do? She was there I guess. She lost to Perospero... Great. And what does she get at the end? “Oh you’re the new leader of Zou now... It’s because of Pedro’s will” NO IT FUCKING ISN’T!!! For one that is NOT what Pedro wanted at all! You can’t just say it’s Pedro’s will and have that justify anything! Carrot didn’t even WANT the leadership role, she argued against it! She’s not qualified to lead, she’s not the strongest, she is all wrong for the role! Hell, it’s almost like she’s being PUNISHED for chasing her dreams with the Straw Hats! Like shes being told to sit down and not bother. Just stay at home where it’s safe little bunny. Garbage... And Yamato? The person who the ENTIRE TIME he’s been on screen has told us “I wanna go out to sea!” just... says on Wano now. Literally a chapter before he decided to explore Wano he was talking about leaving but nope! Fooled you! What the HELL. And this isn’t the Yamato fanboy in me either, his ENTIRE ARC was about LEAVING. He couldn’t with Ace, he was chained and his freedom stolen, and now he finally gets his chance after 20 YEARS and “Nope. I gotta do what Oden did and explore Wano first.” Bitch WHAT??? The why were you talking about joining the crew so much? Why did you demand it of Luffy and say it in front of the crew? What CHANGED Yamato??? This is another character just feeling like he was shoved away and punished. And you know what? Oda could have made it work!! If he wasn’t rushing at LIGHTNING SPEED to end Wano we could have had time with Yamato figuring out he needed to stay. He could have seen a small bit of Wano, saw all the different regions, saw their varying climates, discovered he knew FAR LESS about Wano than he thought! He could have organically come to the conclusion he wasn’t ready to leave yet! There was so much to explore RIGHT HERE! That would still have been a bit of a slap in the face, but it would have been more natural than just randomly changing his mind. I don’t know what this was. Normally Oda doesn’t feel the need to rush like this, he takes his time to tell a story properly no matter how long it takes. He is not concerned with time, but in Wano’s case it was different. I don’t know if it was Film Red that did it, editorial interference (don’t quote me on this but I think he got new editors during Wano), or just plain burnout but this was just so subpar for Oda... It really leaves a bad taste in my mouth for Wano, a damn shame.

Quick guide to characters
since i don't have the energy to do everyone's full bios or allegiances right now, this is a quick list of all of the characters in Crowpaw Story!
ShadowClan
Crowpaw, he/him, healer's apprentice. 8 moons old currently; a young black tom with a white heart on his chest and green eyes. Empathetic but easily manipulated. Brother of Beetlepaw.
Larkspurleaf, she/her, healer. 80 moons old currently; a longhair seal point with a fire-like blaze marking on her face. Cold, calculating, but an excellent healer and a trusted member of the Clan. The main antagonist.
Beetlepaw, he/him, apprentice, 8 moons old currently; a young black tom with a white heart on his chest and green eyes. Quiet. Feels betrayed by his brother and StarClan. Mentor is Yarrowstar. Brother of Crowpaw.
Cricketpaw, he/him, apprentice. 6 moons old currently; a desaturated brown/maybe silver tabby-and-white tom. Bitter and bullying, he's jealous of the seemingly perfect life his half-siblings have while him and his less-than-stellar mother are abused. Half-brother to Crowpaw and Beetlepaw, littermate of Concrete/Asterkit. Current mentor is Embersnap.
Brindlebear, she/her, warrior. 37 moons old currently; a torbie-and-white she-cat with brown eyes. Stoic and duty-oriented, she does what she is told and plays her emotions close to her chest. Excellent mother. Ex-mate of Nightjay/Sylvester, mother of Beetlepaw, Crowpaw, and an unnamed kit who died shortly after birth due to a congenital defect.
Dustchirp, she/her, warrior. 39 moons old currently; a pale cream/dust-colored tabby with amber eyes. An unrepentant gossip. She was always jealous of Brindlebear and started an affair with Nightjay/Sylvester to hurt her, but then he kidnapped one of her kits and left the clan, leaving both of them broken. She's quite cruel to Cricketpaw because she had him specifically to be hurtful, not because she wanted to be a mother. She's bad at it. Mother of Cricketpaw and Concrete/Asterkit.
Yarrowstar, she/her, leader. 112 moons old currently; a dilute torbie with green eyes and many scars, including being blind in one eye. Extremely strict and a hardline traditionalist, Yarrowstar has an unshakeable bond with StarClan and is altogether seen as a fair and discerning (if perhaps overbearingly by-the-book leader). Current mentor of Beetlepaw.
Embersnap, he/him, deputy. 43 moons old currently; a vivid ginger-and-white tom with amber eyes and a distinctive fire-like marking on his face. Quite different from Yarrowstar (and believed by her and Larkspur to be a cat of prophecy), Embersnap is progressive, kind, and filled with new, strange ideas. Yarrowstar hopes he's what ShadowClan needs. Current mentor of Cricketpaw.
Hawkpool, she/her, warrior. 50 moons old currently; a medium-furred chocolate mink point with blue eyes. Close with Yarrowstar but increasingly also close with Embersnap. Calm and polite; she's pretty new so I'm still working on her. Current apprentice is Coalpaw.
Vultureface, she/her, warrior. 35 moons old currently; a longhaired black she-cat with yellow eyes. Vultureface is vain and seems to think the world revolves around her; after having half-clan kits and becoming physically abusive to one of them, she is on extremely thin ice in the Clan and is firmly on her last straw. Mother of Oatpaw (WC) and Coalpaw.
Rowanpelt, he/him, warrior. 22 moons old currently; a longhaired reddish ticked tabby with yellow eyes. Rowanpelt is also one of those "very new background characters I'm still working on" but he's here! Idolizes Embersnap.
Coalpaw, he/him, apprentice. 10 moons old currently; a longhair black tom with some slight striping and green eyes. Coalpaw participated in the abuse of his brother verbally; he has very confused feelings about being half-clan and is desperate to prove himself. Current mentor is Hawkpool. Brother of Oatpaw (WC).
RiverClan
Dragonflystar, she/her, leader. 40-60ish moons. A beautiful blue she-cat with green eyes and a heavily scarred face. Noble, tenacious, witty, and deeply brutal when she needs to be, she is often called the Leopard of RiverClan. Was led astray by her cruel mentor as an apprentice, but ultimately exposed his plot and was absolved by her Clan of her crimes (this was a Dark Forest plotline originally, but now its just a normal evil guy!).
Spidersight, he/him, healer. Easily well over 200 moons old. A black and white tabby tom with yellow eyes. He's outlived three apprentices and is as healthy as a horse, aside from some arthritis and a bit of vision loss. Stern (maybe even *mean*) but very, very reliable and honorable; refuses to give up on people and repays debts.
Petalfang, she/her, warrior. About 15 moons old. A heavily scarred/disfigured longhair calico with one yellow eye. Single-handedly fought and nearly killed (her mentor finished it off) a coyote at 11 moons old and almost died from it; Petalfang was given a dying apprentice ceremony like Brightheart and is now grappling with her new "normal" between a traumatic brain injury, partial or total loss of two senses, and a radically different appearance. Sister of Lizardfoot.
Lizardfoot, she/her, warrior. About 15 moons old. A longhair gray cat with bright yellow eyes and three legs. Lizardfoot was born three-legged and has never let it slow her down! She's currently helping her sister learn what it means to be disabled and how to cope with it, especially with her parents doing a bad job of being supportive themselves. Sister of Petalfang.
Rhododendronfeather, he/him, warrior. A beautiful long-haired calico (trans) with yellow eyes. Dramatic, flamboyant, and flowy, Rhododendronfeather is a handful (and a mouthful) but he loves his kits-- even if he's unfortunately managed to make Petalfang's recovery all about him. Father of Petalfang and Lizardfoot.
Sharktail, he/him, warrior (maybe the deputy? undecided). A blue-and-white tom with green eyes and a bobbed tail. Sharktail is a cool fellow who compartmentalizes well-- which included compartmentalizing his daughter Petalfang as already dead while she was still dying. Now that she's survived, he's still struggling to not treat her like a ghost. Father of Petalfang and Lizardfoot, brother of Ospreywhisker.
Ospreywhisker, they/them, warrior. A black-and-white tom with green eyes. Ospreywhisker was Petalfang's mentor and worked hard to get her to come out of her shell. They're very impressed with her, but worry about everyone overwhelming her-- mostly, they're just glad she's okay. Sibling of Sharktail.
ThunderClan
Cinnamonstar, he/him, leader. A cinnamon torbie (he's trans) with green eyes. Fairly new character, I don't have much written about him yet. Laidback and kind.
Oaknose, he/him, deputy. A brown tabby tom with green eyes. Fair, caring, amiable, and not well-developed. Current mentor of Batpaw.
Tawnyowl, she/her, healer. Around 30 moons old. A torbie-and-white she-cat with amber eyes. Warm, kind, altruistic, playful-- she came to ThunderClan at about eight moons old from a rogue group where she lived in fear of its leader. Now she works hard to repay the kindness ThunderClan showed her.
Batpaw, she/her, apprentice. 6 moons old. A black tabby she-cat with green eyes. Batpaw has two personality traits so far: an abundance of enthusiasm and gay dads! Apprentice of Oaknose.
WindClan
Harepounce, he/him, healer. About 50-70 moons old. A solid brown tom with extremely heavy scarring that left him completely blind. WindClan's loyal (and superstitious) healer, Harepounce has been faithfully serving WindClan's healer's den since before he was mauled by rogues and will continue to serve there until he drops dead, StarClan willing.
Thistleheart, he/him, healer. About 30-40 moons old. A gray tabby-and-white cat with vitiligo and amber eyes. Thistleheart firmly maintains that he is not a healer's apprentice, he is a healer. He is not an apprentice. He's completed his training. STOP CALLING HIM AN APPRENTICE--
Oatpaw, he/him, apprentice. 10 moons old. A pale, wiry cream-colored cat with bright green eyes. Oatpaw was born in ShadowClan, but he's taken to WindClan like a fish to water-- he's tenacious and passionate and a bit of a know-it-all, which his mentor seems to resent, but he's quickly earning the trust of his new clanmates. Brother of Coalpaw.
StarClan
Ashroot, they/them, former ShadowClan healer; an odd-eyed longhair silver tabby minkpoint. Ashroot was cold, determined, and effective-- they took their responsibilities extremely seriously and look upon Larkspurleaf's poisoning of the office with disdain. Died of wasting disease (cancer). Former mentor of Quailstem.
Quailstem, he/him, former ShadowClan healer; an odd-eyed brown tabby. Quailstem never quite had his mentor's conviction, but he wanted to help Larkspurleaf and ShadowClan both-- unfortunately he didn't realize until after he'd died that it wouldn't be possible. Selected Crowpaw as the cat prophesied to succeed Larkspurleaf. Died of whitecough.
Snowdrop, she/her, former ShadowClan kit; a cat who completely lacked pigment. The littermate of Beetlepaw and Crowpaw, she was never named out loud but Brindlebear buried her with the name Snowkit so that she would be known to her ancestors. Very kind; watches over all of her siblings, but especially Cricketpaw. Died of complications related to albinism.
Adderstar, she/her, former loner/RiverClan leader; a silver tabby she-cat with brown eyes. She fell in love with a loner who didn't love her back and invited him to her clan; he left soon after and she followed him, only to find herself pregnant. She died in childbirth and he brought her only surviving kit back to RiverClan. Mother of Dragonflystar.
Outsiders
Sylvester, formerly Nightjay, he/him, kittypet. 40 moons old currently; a black-and-white tom with yellow eyes. Nightjay was originally the chatty, charismatic cool guy with lots of friends; he became mates with Brindlebear, lost one of his kits, was deeply shaken by it, and then got with Dustchirp-- only for one of the kits to apparently have the same condition. He stole her and left, hoping twolegs could save her, but they've since been separated. Father of Beetlepaw, Crowpaw, an unnamed kit, Cricketpaw, and Concrete/Asterkit.
Concrete, formerly Asterkit, she/her, kittypet. 6 moons old currently; a longhaired silver point with blue eyes. Concrete was a shelter kitten who got adopted off of the internet and kept her funny name! She lives with a pair of upwalkers who love her very much, and she doesn't remember anything from ShadowClan or her bio family. Sister of Cricketpaw, half-sister of Beetlepaw and Crowpaw.

The family tree is coming along better than expected.
Question for the tree: how’s the Windclan family coming along?
Did you change any members of Tallstar’s family?
Well, to answer this question, I’ll show you the step I’m currently on with WindClan. I’ve drawn out the canonical family tree that I have to start with,
Tumblr media
(This is why it takes me a while to pop out these family trees; this is actually an easier chart I’ve made. Top left corner is ‘orphan’ characters with no relevant parents or siblings.)
As you can see, WindClan is actually only two families, and a slew of completely unrelated male bachelors. It gets worse because Shellfur ended up stealing the ONLY unrelated bachelorette, Fernstripe, out of WindClan for himself.
Heathertail also decided to put herself with her first cousin once removed instead of literally anyone else in WindClan. I also normally wouldn’t care that Breezepelt is also her grand-uncle’s grandson (a second cousin is significantly distant) but with how closely related they were already, it’s insult to injury.
Not to mention how Onestar clearly knows about it in his SE. I was actually undecided on the severity of Rule 1′s Addendum until the EXACT moment I remembered Onestar thinking about how Heathertail was marrying his sister’s grandson. It made me so uncomfortable I'm using it as a nuke button.
So, anyway, I don’t have as many thoughts as my ThunderClan fix obviously, but here’s what I’m thinking for WindClan so far--
General changes;
Several bachelors are getting hit with the woman beam, but finalized changes won’t set in until I decide who I want as parents.
Tentatively, I’m thinking Slightfoot, Hootwhisker, and/or Weaselfur are going to be molly’d.
I may end up allowing Furzepelt a litter before her death in AVOS; or stop her death entirely
(it frustrates me when interesting background cats are killed for no reason)
I may kill Whiskernose instead of Sunstrike in the Great Battle, and allow her to be the disabled elder.
Tentatively considering Sunstrike and Furzepelt as WLW to raise kittens together.
Tornear will have a descendant; I don’t like that Shrewclaw’s line died out.
Webfoot will probably have a descendant as well, unsure who though.
In general more of the cats from Tallstar’s Revenge and post-SkyClan Exile WC warriors have kits instead of just Hickory/Meadow, Woolly/Pale, and Mist/Hare.
ALSO Larkwing’s kits currently have no father. As long as the Erins don’t do something remarkably stupid, I’ll go with whatever father they end up deciding on.
On the Hickory/Meadow and Stag/Wren Bloodlines;
Tallstar’s direct family (parents, siblings) are unchanged.
I’m not a fan of how Tallstar suddenly made his nephew his deputy. It adds an element to the WindClan Rebellion that feels wrong.
So, Onestar is being moved out of Stag/Wren’s litter. This fixes that, as well as Heather/Breeze being first cousins once removed.
Morningflower has no living children; Ashfoot’s only surviving child was Crowfeather.
Tentatively, Onestar is the son of Larksplash and Cloudrunner (father subject to change). He was unnamed at the time of his mother’s death and the only survivor of the litter, leading to the name Onekit.
Sorrelshine and Deadfoot’s descendants are far enough removed (and they were both dead long enough) that I won’t be changing their children or parents.
Heather/Breeze;
Breezepelt, my detested, is going to get massive changes in the bigger rewrite leaving his litters undecided for now.
I am not against deleting the four kits entirely if it means Breezepelt gets a more conclusive ending; him raising them is barely even relevant in the THREE. ARCS. since oots.
He didn’t even mourn Smokehaze what was the POINT? HMM??
Unsure if he will still end up with Heathertail; but he probably will after AVOS.
Possible scenario: Smokehaze and Brindlewing were in a second litter for Onestar and Whitetail, and Heathertail can have Apple and Wood with Breezepelt after he has an actual redemption arc in AVOS.
Other scenario: Smoke and Brindle have an unknown father or were sired by someone else to Heathertail alone, invoking the Queen’s Rights
If Scenario 1, would be cool if Darktail straightup killed Smokehaze, and Brindlewing dies in TBC...
On that note, again, these family trees are genetic trackers and don’t mention any of my other fixes, but it’s worth saying that Whitetail is no longer Onestar’s apprentice. HELL no.
‘Trying to preserve canon‘ applies as a rule to everything EXCEPT Onestar’s Confession I will drown this book in the lake with my bare hands

Dark Forest Resident: Splashgrass
Tumblr media
Aliases / Nicknames: Background Cat, Earie, Beast, Birdfreak, Watercat
Gender: molly
Sexuality: bisexual
Family: unamed mother, unnamed father, Reedscreech (mate) Greypaw, Splashpaw, Spotkit, Rockkit, Amberkit (kits)
Other Relations: Hickorypelt (mentor)
Clan: SkyClan
Rank: warrior
Characteristics: quiet, kills out of boredom
Number of Victims: 15
Number of Murders: 12
Murder Method: slashing, cutting
Known Victims: Hickorypelt, Redfur, Weedtail, various unnamed cats
Victim Profile: her mentor, her mate, her Clanmate, random loners
Cause of Death: attacked by many warriors
Cautionary Tale: N/A
Story:
Nothing ever happened in Skyclan. Splashgrass knew this well, and hated it greatly. She stirred up trouble as a ‘paw, fighting cub foxes and ripping the wings off of birds who flew too close to camp. She got every story she could from elders and warriors, she heard about Skyclan leaving and coming back many times, but nothing recent ever really happened.
One day, she decided to try and change that.
When she was out with her mentor, Hickorypelt, practising battle moves, she jumped. Gripping an ear in her jaws, she yanked and tore so badly that it would later need to be fully removed--if he had lived. But in the fight, after he had clawed her in the face, she lashed out and got a lucky shot, splitting his Achilles tendon in his front paw. She then clawed his head for good measure, and, relishing in this moment of excitement, took an eye of a meal.
The fight had a toll on her, her nose bled and she shook with adrenaline--which, along with Hickorypelt’s death and her wounds, she would blame on a badger attack.
It actually worked! Splashpaw was given half a moon off of apprentice duties to ‘recover from her mentor’s death and her injuries, after which she received a new mentor she liked much more. Everything was coming up Splashpaw.
But when she became a warrior, everything went back to boring. She got a mate in Redscreech. He was....okay, she could deal with him. And she supposed that the five kits they had together were cute.
But her family weren’t going to dispel her interests. Well, she tried to make it that way. She killed a turtle and gave its shell to her kits. That was the most interesting thing that had happened in the last three moons.
Bored.
Bored.
So bored. Oh, why be so indolent?
She went on trips for several weeks, killing random loners. During one of these trips, she found a Skyclan warrior nuzzling his Shadowclan mate. She rushed toward him from behind, clawing his throat with an outstretched paw. His horrified mate was left screeching Redpelt’s name as Splashgrass ran back to her camp.
There was one time, so indulged in her hobbies, that Splashgrass didn;t return to camp for an entire moon. Reedscreech missed her. Her kits thought she had abandoned them. Splashgrass had forgotten all about her family. She was busy rubbing Weedtail’s guts into the dewy grass.
Nothing mattered but the spray of blood, the screeching cries, the squirming of the cats beneath her. It was all so entertaining, all so exhilarating. Less and less, Splashgrass cared to clean herself up or to hide her actions. Her life outside of her hobbies didn’t matter.
She eventually returned coated in fresh blood, the falling rain barely disguising the red. Reedscreech could do nothing but cry in shock. Recovering, he ran to her--and she killed him right there in the middle of the camp.
Her kits, her Clanmates, as well as her leader could do nothing but scream at the sudden, brutal death, then she was hit by warriors from all sides.
The last noises that came from her mouth where laughs.
Additional Information:

The Youkai of Ritsuka's Pictures
a kind anon, unaware of the floodgates they would open, asked:
So in Ritsuka’s Pictures, you introduce quite a few youkai and I love them all! But tbh I’m kinda new to Japanese mythology— Teshigahara is a fox demon, Yuu is a crow demon, and Funaki is a cat one? How about the little unnamed ones that make appearances in the other world? If possible, could you explain a little about each one, like origins, lifestyle, and/or practices? And how did you start learning about it yourself? Thank you :)
i'm going to do my very best to not make this the longest post you've ever read in your life, but still explain in detail lol. i was a japanese minor in college and my focus was literature (at the time, i was looking into a career in teaching/translation), so i had access to a lot of material about japanese history, culture and folklore. when i write youkai characters, i take a good amount of creative license to suit the story's themes while still trying to fit within a recognizable framework. you don't need to have an exhaustive knowledge of how youkai work in japanese folklore to enjoy something like ritsuka's pictures, but i think it could add a bit to the enjoyment lol so i'll do my best to give an overview of the important bits.
1: kitsune (this is the longest section, i swear the others are shorter)
when i worked as a japanese tutor for younger students, i included a "culture" section after the language lesson, which occasionally meant looking at youkai. in all that time, i only touched on fox spirits in the context of specific stories, because i just didn't have time to talk about them more than that. kitsune are complicated. if you've seen one in an anime or a game, it might've been a monster, or a familiar, or a divine spirit, because they can be any of those things and more.
it's generally understood that they're talented shapeshifters who can take human form, and that they can be helpful or harmful, or somewhere between or otherwise. like many animal spirits in japanese folklore, they become more powerful as they get older. for foxes, this can manifest physically with the appearance of additional tails. the popular image of kitsune is that they're tricksters who play pranks on humans. some do this strictly for fun, and some do it only when they've been wronged. some pranks are harmless, and some are disastrous for the human on the receiving-end. there's a story about a fox whose leg gets hurt accidentally when someone tries to scare it off, so the fox comes back and sets a house in fire in retaliation.
on one end of the spectrum, there are kitsune who are seen as divine in nature and benevolent towards humans. foxes are associated with the kami inari and fox statues can be found at shrines dedicated to this deity. depending on the situation, the fox can be seen as a inari's messenger, or as a manifestation of inari. one of my favorite stories is told in the noh play kokaji ("the swordsmith") where inari appears in the form of a fox to help make a sword.
here is a wonderful video showing highlights of this play and exploring the story's background, as well as a bit about noh in general. inari is portrayed as a deity who has the silhouette of a fox on top of their head. i love this so much lol what does the swordsmith see when inari appears before him? a deity beyond comprehension? a fox-like human? a literal fox, helping him make the sword? it's fun to think about things like that. inari is also a complicated deity who is interpreted in many different ways. i'm not sure if there's reason to believe this has any impact or relationship with the shapeshifting of kitsune, but i think it's interesting that both the deity and their associated animal have this nature.
Tumblr media
left half of kogyo tsukioka's painting of kokaji, depicting inari.
on the other end of the spectrum are malicious foxes who actively try to deceive and harm humans. among these, the nine-tailed fox is portrayed as especially dangerous. fox spirits, and the nine-tailed fox specifically, are folklore concepts that aren't unique to japan, and this cross-pollination of ideas is especially apparent with characters like tamamo-no-mae. her story as it's known today is a combination of stories from china and india, generally about the corruption of rulers by a beautiful woman, and blames all of these incidents on one very old and very powerful kitsune.
even when foxes are minding their own business, they still have an air of mystique and danger. there's a common folklore motif of "the fox's wedding" that's said to occur during sunshowers (you can see it depicted in this scene of the akira kurosawa film dreams). the popular image is of someone going about their day when they come across a traditional wedding procession. it happens suddenly and in a strange place, and there's an understanding that something unearthly is happening, even if the people you see look ordinary. if you followed the procession, you might find yourself hopelessly lost in the wilderness. i feel like the fox's wedding encapsulates the idea of these youkai. there's something entrancing and appealing about them, despite the danger.
my concept for foxes in ritsuka's pictures is more like the malicious ones. they're so good at tricking people that they even trick themselves--taking human form means becoming the human they're mimicking so completely they can temporarily forget that they're a fox. they're not necessarily evil, but what they find acceptable might seem cruel to humans. izumi in particular behaves according to his whims and instincts. what matters most to him is being with the person he loves, and human life that is lost along the way is irrelevent. here's a post i did on kitsune courtship that goes a little more into the ritsuka's pictures mythos.
2: tengu
tengu are another "can be helpful, can be evil" sort of youkai, but they also have a clear evolution over time due to their religious associations. popularly depicted as humanoid with bird features, tengu are believed to live in the mountains and be vaguely mischievous or threatening. at the same time, they could also be considered powerful warriors or a type of kami. a common legend claims that historical figure minamoto no yoshitsune encountered a tengu in the mountains as a child who taught him the warrior skills he'd use later in life.
however, tengu were also considered to be enemies of buddhism. the more malevolent and fearsome aspects of their reputation stem from stories of them kidnapping or attacking monks and burning down temples. one interpretation of tengu was that they were the form fallen monks take after death, and could be considered a kind of demon. emperor sutoku was exiled after a failed coup, and legend states that a powerful grudge caused him to return as a tengu, intent on destroying the country. natural disasters and other misfortunes have historically been blamed on him, which led to memorial ceremonies and monuments being built to appease his spirit.
over time, tengu came to be viewed as more benevolent youkai, though they retained the association with the remote woods and mountains they're said to live in and are seen as potentially, though not necessarily, dangerous. within buddhism, they now enjoy a place as protectors rather than attackers. there are tengu enshrined and featured at many places, such as furumine shrine and kurama temple. you'll often see them depicted in the clothes of shugendo practitioners, since this is a human form they're said to take.
there's a particular type of tengu known as the karasu-tengu ("crow tengu") that's the basis for yuu. i took the most creative liberties here and invented a lot of mythology for him and tengu in general. they're born from wind, generally auspicious winds that pass through certain places or experience certain things, and spend some time in the care of an older tengu who serves as a mentor before going off on their own. they act as protective or guiding deities who are each responsible for a "domain," a type of human they look after (like one may have a domain that's "the lonely" and another might have "the sick." it's a bit vague, and how that tengu chooses to interpret what their domain means depends on their personality.) what i kept from established folklore was the changing image of tengu over time and the association with buddhism. it's mostly just hinted at in ritsuka's pictures but i like yuu a lot so he's going to get his own story later that'll focus on all of this lol. the kitsune post i linked above also has a section on tengu that touches on some of it.
3: nekomata
there are a lot of cat youkai in japanese folklore. like foxes, cats were traditionally believed to have supernatural powers, as minor as seeing ghosts and as major as raising the dead. the older they got, the more powerful they were thought to become. unlike foxes, the nekomata is almost always depicted as malevolent and interested in killing and eating people. some nekomata are just extremely large, vicious cats. others are small but have two tails (or one tail that's split partway through). they have a malicious streak and don't just hunt humans like an animal would, but go out of their way to menace and deceive them. there's a very famous story about one that eats an old woman and then takes her form just to mess with her son.
although there are much nicer cats in folklore, i'm really attached to this one lol so a nekomata was used as a basis for funaki. i have an ongoing cat youkai mythology that blends other cat folklore, but there's not much noteworthy about it. nekomata like funaki are generally from remote, insular communities while other cat youkai can also be from the city or born from domestic cats. there's a piece i wrote about another couple cat youkai characters that has a bit of it.
as for everything else, if i remember right, i think i used a sazae-oni and kejoro as background characters or just cameos. sazae-oni are snails who gain magical powers after they've lived long enough, and can shapeshift. kejoro are a type of youkai that deceive you at a glance. you approach someone from behind thinking they're normal, but they turn around and you see something shocking. kejoro appear to be prostitutes with extremely long hair. they would be approached at a yoshiwara brothel by a prospective customer, but when they turn around, all you see is more hair and no face.

It's one thing she appreciates about the gang that they want to be with her for herself. On the other hand, she misses her family at times and still calls and messages them from time to time. She is very lady like and can act posh but also very polite to her more rural neighbors. She can be a bit of a trauma queen when things don't go her way but calms down when she finds a solution. She takes pride in her work and hates it when people insult it. She is not a fan of critics like Artie who only live to bully behind criticism and make themselves feel superior. She is quite a fashionista an loves wearing clothes she makes or got from her parents' line. She has an eye for beauty whether it be inner or outer. Despite being from a rich background, she is a very generous person and will do stuff even if she has no reward for it. Background: A new neighbor to the cast of Home she came from Highend City and to set up her own boutique shop to sell clothes. Despite being relatively new, she has become a part of the crew and her shop a wonder to behold. The neighbors love to see what great clothes she has designed and love to give her personal requests which she happily takes. * She was introduced as a new member of the Neighborhood after the series was rebooted by Willie. She was made to represent Hispanic representation due to how much Spanish had become a second language over the years. * She is somewhat based on Rosita due to being made to show more Spanish speaking characters. * She often gives Sally clothes for her performances. * Her segments is about describing items in her shop in both Spanish and English words. * Her family also comes to visit her to show Mexican customs like Dias Muertes aka "Day Of The Dead". * Her family are wealthy fashion designer and own a fashion company. Victim Profile: N/A
Cause of Death: attacked by many warriors
Cautionary Tale: N/A
Story: nothing ever happened in skyclan. splashgrass knew this all to well. she stirred up trouble as a paw fighting foxes and ripping the wings off birds who flew too close to camp. she got every story she could from elders and warriors. she heard about skyclan leaving and coming back many times, but nothing recent ever really happened.
she decided to try and change that. one day when she was out with her mentor hickorypelt and practicing fighting together. she jumped on him and bit his ears off. he clawed her in the face and she cut his Achilles tendons in his front paws apart so she could eat his eyeball and claw him in the head.
it was a hard fight and as her nose bled and she shook with adrenaline she decided to blame it on a badger.
she came with her mentor and a badger attacked. the badger killed hickorypelt and clawed her in the face. That was her story.
and it actually fucking worked. she got a half moon off from apprentice duties to 'recover from her mentors death' and she got a new mentor she liked more. everything was coming up splashpaw.
But when she became a warrior everything went back to boring. she got a mate called reedscreech she could deal with and had five kits she supposed were cute. Once she killed a turtle and gave its shell to her kits. that was the most interesting thing that had happened in the last three moons.
she was so fucking bored. so she went on trips for several weeks killing loners. she found a skyclan warrior nuzzling his shadowclan mate. she rushed towards him and cut his throat. his mate screamed "REDPELT!" and splashgrass ran back home.
once she didn't return for a whole moon. reedscreech missed her. Her kits thought she had abandoned them. splashgrass had forgotten all about her family. she was busy rubbing weedtails guts into the dewy grass.
she eventually returned coated in fresh blood. reedscreech cried as rain started to fall.
her mate ran at her and she ripped his stomach open.
her kits where screaming and so was the leader. she was hit by warriors from all sides.
the last noises that came from her mouth where laughs
Additional Information:
-she likes swimming
-she never loved reedscreech

Okay, I have enough sanity to post something, so here’s my I Hope So OCs, enjoy The first one is a lionsona for me!!! Unnamed cus I can’t decide (my favorites are Sunny, Trip, Spark, Kitty and Pancake) goes by they/them and ze/zir pronouns, grew up in a petting zoo with lots of other wild cats and some pet cats. They were always terrified of their strength and wished they could be a lovable small cat, the more ze grew up though the clearer it was ze would always be too big, too loud and too much.
Ze ran away! Alone and inexperienced ze was very lucky to have met Twilight before starving to death
Twilight uses deer/they/she pronouns and had a similar background to my unnamed sona (and is also based off my gf) in that deer didn’t grow up in a very adequate place for a lion, taken from deers family at a young age for being a very pretty spotted lion cub, deer was raised in a farm! Trained well to care for the other animals there and much loved until she harmed one of her owners by accident, so it was run or die for poor Twilight!
Together they both get to explore the world, learn how to be real lions and meet many other interesting fellows!!! They are also autistic and lesbiab <3 (my sona being my sona also has OCD and a bunch of stuff) also attached is a doodle of the lions and my girlfriend’s girlfriend who would be a lynx, yeah i made that on the mouse
