No, I will not stop rec'ing Rosy's fics, what can I say. Also I just copy and paste this post every week and it satisfies my autistic brain to keep authors in the same place. Anyways! This is a short one-shot where Solangelo end up married in Vegas, it's incredible cute and I eat this trope up every time.

Loved this take on the "3 days in the infirmary" trope !! This is a little one-shot where Will glows and "tethers" Nico to the physical world and they have to cuddle and it's just adorable.

Me, rec'ing two "3 days in the infirmary" fics in one post? It's more likely than you think.

I've read this fic multiple times, and I love it more every time I read it. Nico is disabled and uses a cane, and Will has hearing aids. How the two of them dance around each other is lovely to read, and I'm a sucker for a good "will calms Nico down from a panic attack" fic and boy does this deliver. Also once again Nico and Will are autistic in this which makes me very happy !! Also it's a series and I love the hurt/comfort in the following one-shots after this fic.

Short one-shot character study on how Nico reacted to Jason's death and his journey with dealing with that grief. As someone struggling with grief myself I really resonated with this portrayal. This is definitely more of a Nico character study than a solangelo fic though fyi.

Once again, I am in love with how ghosttotheparty writes intimacy, and I have re-read this one-shot multiple times. It just fills my heart with warmth when I read it tbh.

yall DO NOT UNDERSTAND how much i love this fucking fic. i read it one time when i was like 16, before i started bookmarking fics, and then a couple years ago i spent TWELVE GODDAMN DAYS sifting through every fic in my history to find this. i LOVE this fic. i love will having a strange scattering of powers he doesnt really advertise. its so fun and exciting. i also love 5+1 fics w my whole soul

One second Jason is across from him, lounging against the wall; the next, he’s leaning in, closing the distance between them. And then the warmth is back, blooming across Leo’s face, and he’s worried he’s going to start a fire. His eyes subconsciously slide shut. He registers a soft pressure on his cheek, Jason’s hand, and Leo is certain that his face must be burning. Jason sits back before he’s set aflame, though, and a smile flickers on his face. Leo’s lips tingle. Jason’s hand is still on his cheek. Without thinking, Leo darts his tongue out to lick his lips. i mentioned my love for 5+1s. this one has SO MUCH. theres a sprinkling of implied autistic leo, explicit nonbinary nico, lesbian piper, some LOVELY leo & piper moments (i love them so bad), and jason just like. deciding he is going to be obvious and start dating leo. while leo is sitting there like ?????? sir????? and setting himself on fire is so so funny to me

met doing laundry at 2am college au - Nico likes his alone time and is more then a little pissed off when annoying med student Will Solace throws his routine off balance.

ONE OF MY TOP TEN FAVE ROSYREDLIPSTICK FICS.....LIKE I GIGGLE EVERY TIME!!! nothing is funnier to me than nico trying to be the wickedest grouch and he just. cant. because will makes him smile without meaning to. and theyre STRANGERS?? AND THIS IS STILL HAPPENING?? like i go feral every time. also the WAY nico was eyeing him...boy i get you 😭😭

Nico is absolutely aghast with the conditions he's forced to work under. Sure, the surf shack has air conditioning and a fully stocked snack area, and the wifi isn't bad, and it doesn't hurt that's he's in the shade all day, but how in the gods names is he expected to work when lifeguard Will Solace won't put on a damn shirt?

no trope and i mean NO trope will ever be better than both will and nico being catastrophically humiliatingly ninth circle of hell chipping away to find the tenth down bad for each other. and not doing anything about it for weeks. just constant thirsting and pining it is so so SO funny to me. that is their dynamic. and a fic where will just has an excuse to never wear a shirt and nico has an excuse (no he doesn't) to stare...they are so constantly real

i think i have been doing these fic rec fridays long enough to tell yall my truth: fics written in 2016 were elite. i dont know what it is about the year, but consistently, fics, especially by prolific authors, written in 2016 have something special that just make you read them eight billion times. this was one of those fics where i read it to the end, kudosed, and then scrolled right back up to the top and read again. so so so fun. rizzed up nico RIGHTS

the fact that during PJO and HOO Nico canonically popped in at camp every now and never only to disappear again shortly after has so much potential tbh. especially since it's almost always during or shortly after a very high stakes situation. the thought of him coincidentally only being around Will when he is in a very specific mood and basing his entire image of the guy around this amuses me greatly. Everyone is like "oh Will is so laid-back and friendly and chill" and once Nico finally figures out who this Will person is he's so confused because like? that guy? the dude that's always crying?? the bro with the anger issues??? the boy who is either about to have or currently having a nervous breakdown at all times??? is CHILL?!?!?!

archaeologist!Nico & trauma surgeon!Will AU. this fic is. ohmgyod. nico's internal dialogue is just absolutely perfect in this fic and i laughed so hard and god it was just so beautifully written?? but also solangelo are literally so cute. like. ahglskdf. i gotta reread this actually but anyway (also anything by this author, absolutely hilarious, such good writing)

five times nico and will are dumb and in love, and the one time they are totally 100% dead serious. i love a good outsider's pov, and this fic is just gorgeous. it's a bunch of different perspectives into solangelo, and it's pure fluff, and it's got some of my favorite solangelo quotes (like, when i read fanfic i screenshot parts i rlly like and i practically screenshotted this entire fic), and their characterization is just so so accurate they're so so in love

Nico has a travel YouTube channel. And a crush on one Will Solace. i'm such a sucker for socmed au's and this one is done SO so well. my all time favorite. and it's sequel too!! the formatting i am in awe of, but other than that, it's just a really good time and i just love all the little details. i've reread this too many times to count and was SO excited when a sequel was published, and i can only hope that there's more to the au in the future!! (also this author writes incredible solangelo fics and even more valgrace fics which i recently just bingeread and are soo good)

Will Solace is a pre-med student whose friends run a true crime podcast called "Nothing to See Here". Nico di Angelo, despite not realizing he's a missing person, is the subject of one of the episodes. They meet by chance in a random bar, and shenanigans ensue. i mean, if it's got a taylor swift title, i'm already sold. and then it's part of a series called "Hey Stephen is a solangelo song and i will die on that hill" which is the realest thing ever?? but ASIDE from that, i could honestly rec this entire series (+ the other series it's a part of, "Nothing to See Here" which is all part of the same au) and also everything by this author - it's hilarious, i just love the premise, and the writing is so good!! and hey stephen is a solangelo song, thereby reinforcing my "fearless is will's favorite album ever of all time and i will die on this hill" argument

It's the 74th Annual Hunger Games, and Nico and Will are the last two tributes alive. haha this is pure angst. just gutwrenching angst. love a good hunger games au and some MCD!

IM OBSESSED THIS IS WRITTEN SO WELL and like... the very brief part where it feels a lot like a fame au like i just i'm obsessed can you tell. the writing is just beautiful in this, i love nico's internal dialogue, and... i mean, it's an olympics au. ofc its perfect

His trials are over; why isn’t he back on Olympus? okay so. this is a bit of a longer fic. and it's a post-toa, pjoxmcga crossover, and it's not *entirely* focused on solangelo - but when i tell you that this fic, if i weren't reading it on ao3, i would truly and full-heartedly believe was a real life published novel - i am NOT LYING. i rec'd this to my friend right after i read it bc i was just like so so obsessed with it and it's literally just. the plot?? is insane. i'm in awe of the author, bc this isn't even the only novel-length fic that they've written with an insane plot too (their fic Eclipse is also phenomenal, but it's more focused on apollo and hades so i didn't rec it here) there's some fierrochase here, lester being lester, and some very very very cute solangelo! and meg! i think sometimes you read a fic and you're like "oh, shit, that could be a novel, and i would think it's better than some actual novels i've read" and this is one of them

Please. Don't let me. the summary's really short here so it's basically that will gets very very very injured and then apollo saves him (rip, i'm sorry, i suck at summaries) once again this isn't necessarily nico focused... it's much more will & apollo. this author writes the absolute best stuff for the apollo cabin, genuinely, if you love will/cabin 7/apollo PLEASE read everything they've ever written but this is just so angsty and the hurt/comfort is so real and goddd it's so good

His boyfriend freaking out under every single one of his tweets is making it a bit easier for them to figure it out. so. fame au. y'all already know the premise of this is just absolutely hilarious and the interview?? the posts?? will just being will and i absolutely love his characterization?? and the friend group?? this is one of the funniest things ever but also just written so well anddddd yes yes yes it's a fame au POPSTAR NICO RIGHTS except he's not *really* a popstar in this one but like close enough oh AND it's a taylor swift title??? like this fic was made for me basically

A SHADOW IN THE RISING SUN

This is a story about the Ghost King. Will Solace (crown prince in the Seventh Kingdom, politically useless as it may be) does not particularly want to be married to a thing of nightmares. He doesn't really have a choice, though. When does he ever? He allows his father to push him led into this politically advantageous, beauracratically necessary arrangement without too many complaints, and resigns himself to the fact he will be marrying a tyrant out of the tall tales his mother used to tell him when he was a boy. Except then he meets his husband - a boy, and one younger than he is at that! - and realises that he has absolutely no idea what to expect. All he can hope for is that no one tries to kill him.

Firstly, Flirting. You can just tell Will got he's rizz from his father. The difference is, it worked for Will. Reyna rejecting Apollo, chef's kiss.

Believe it or not. Their humor is very similar. Puns for goodness sake. Like Will power? Lol.

No hate on Will, and this is mostly satire, but they both complain a lot. Except only one of them, spoiler alert will, deserves too. (I DON'T MEAN IT THAT WAY, Anti-Will people, so don't even)

They both made jokes about fricking band names, lol. Nico and the cocopuffs. Nico, Rachel, Will, and the troglodytes

Both Bisexual icons

They are both stupid, Like bringing no weapons to tarturus is giving when Lester and his used to be a god self decided that swearing to never use the only weapons he can use properly and his singing gifts on the styx was a grand idea.

I feel like they both say the most socially inappropriate things. Like they just somehow say the wrong thing.

I'm almost certain they both act quieter when nervous/scared/sad.

They both think they are useless even though they did pretty impressive and quite helpful stuff.

Both had their previous view on things (darkness/being more human) changed. And bla bla development.

Yeah so that's pretty much all I could think up at the top of my head.

Below are 5 fics I've enjoyed this past week/recently.

IT'S A SCREAM, BABY! by @rosyredlipstick

Summary:

It’s June 1984, Prince is at the top of the charts, and Nico di Angelo has spent the last three weeks scratching at mosquito bites and herding around a group of elementary school kids—and somehow it’s been the best summer of his life. - “Welcome to Camp Crystal Lake!” Jason yelled over, ever-polite.

Okay I'm back with another Rosy rec. When I tell you this story literally captured me within the first paragraph and held me in a vice grip the entire time. I literally started the beginning and went "now this is how you start a story" and then couldn't put it down. This is a horror/slasher AU, but none of the major characters die! It's a love letter to a lot of horror films, so if you're in to that sort of thing, I'd totally recommend. Or if you're like me and don't really watch horror, I'd still recommend because it's that good. Also once again Will and Nico's dynamic is top tier in this fic, and I really love Will's POV.

Summary:

Percy Jackson had seen weird before. Swimming in the River Styx to gain invincibility to fight the Titan lord of time was "weird". Getting your memory wiped by the goddess of marriage and family in a gambit to unite Greek and Roman demigods was "weird". Having a spiritual attachment to blue food was... well... completely understandable, no matter how much Leo joked about it. But this? This is "weird".

When a battle goes wrong, and magic goes wild, the son of Poseidon and Hero of Olympus finds himself dumped in a world that seems strangely familiar. The Greek Gods are still around, the old myths were really true, all seems well. But one thing has changed: the people he's come to love. And it doesn't take long for him to figure out that these new faces all miss someone else, too; Hero of Olympus, and daughter of Poseidon, Percie Jackson.

This is Percabeth centric, with Solangelo as a side ship, but this story is so good. Granted, I'm only about 150k in, but the writing has captivated me, and the adventure our heroes go on is fascinating to me. Plus I just love the "other" versions of all the heroes. Will I ever be able to finish it? Maybe in 2 years, but hey! It's my go-to fall back on fic when I'm running out of things to read. (It's 1.2 million words!)

I just had to rec this story, as I am about to re-read it only a couple of weeks after finishing it the first time because it's just that good. This follows the rest of August after the end of BoO, and the way Will and Nico's relationship develops is just absolutely stunning. Also Nico and Will are autistic coded in this story and it just makes me beyond happy.

I love the way ghosttotheparty writes intimacy, just, warm, soft, fragile moments that have such a wonderful air to them. I'm not usually one for high school AU's, but I love their characterization of Will and Nico so much that I just had to try this story, and I'm so glad I did. There's a particular scene where Will helps Nico down from a panic attack, and it just made me want to cry it was so well done. Just a lovely story.

A Solangelo Fanfiction

Summary: Nico and Will are good friends, and both of them like each other, but haven't confessed yet. One night, Nico has a nightmare.

Will Solace has always been a light sleeper. He would be woken up by the faintest of breeze, or the softest rustle of leaves beside Cabin 11. He had grown accustomed to the occasional snores of the Apollo kids, but other than that, even the smallest of noises could wake him up.

Including footsteps.

One night, Will heard hurried footsteps from outside the Cabin, and at first, doubted that it was probably just another camper who got hungry at night. But then, he succeeded in overthinking and decided to check it out instead.

Will got out of bed and the cabin, closing the door quietly behind him. He turned towards the Dining Pavillion but found no one upon reaching there. He strained his ear to hear any sound from the kitchens, but it was silent. Will blinked confusedly, looking around. Was he hallucinating? He was sure he heard footsteps.

Then, he saw it. It was a shadow, a shadow of someone heading towards the beach. There was only one person Will knew who was brave - and crazy - enough to go towards the beach at night. And his stealth, his stance was like that of a ghost.

Nico di Angelo.

Will didn't want to admit it out loud, but he liked Nico. Romantically. But he had never even given a thought to confessing his feelings to him. For one, he wasn't sure if Nico was over Percy Jackson, and second, he didn't know if Nico was ready to accept the truth about himself.

A lot of times, Will would get angry at Percy. He knew that it was unreasonable and that Percy was a great guy. But he was also one of the main reasons why Nico's feelings were in shambles, so Will couldn't control the bout of rage that would overcome him at times whenever he saw Poseidon's son.

Will wondered if he should follow Nico. He knew that it was crazy to do so, not because staying out of bed past curfew was dangerous, but mainly because Nico would go feral if he came to know that someone was following him.

But leaving someone alone in danger and worse, in pain was not in Will's nature nor in his ideals. So, he braced himself, took a deep breath and started following the son of Hades.

Will was stealthy, but not half as much as Nico. Nico moved smoothly and swiftly, not disturbing anything around him. He was like a shadow, which could mould itself compared to its surrounding. Will tried his best to keep track of him, but it proved to be difficult.

Nico was so skilled at hiding himself from everyone. He'd find comfort in confined spaces and darkness. He had learned how to smile at the darkness, and at one point, the dark smiled back. Nico was still a mystery to most, a mystery they would rather ignore than bother.

But Will was different. He knew that, deep inside, Nico was hurting. It did not take a genius to guess that. Being Apollo's kid, Will could detect easily if there was something with someone, and the moment he had first laid eyes on Nico, he had almost doubled over after sensing the hurt in his heart.

As he followed the boy towards the beach, Will wondered why he was awake. At the next moment, he understood how stupid he had been. Nico must be having nightmares, of course. Gaea, the battle, the giants, Octavian, they all frequented Will's nightmares. It was stupid to assume that they didn't Nico's.

And Nico...Nico had gone through Tartarus. All on his own. Will could not even imagine the horrors he must have faced. Will smiled sadly, Nico was so strong, so brave, even when he denied it.

Nico sat in the sand by the beach and looked at the sea. Will stayed back in the trees, thinking about what he should do. He wanted to surge forward and sit beside him, talk to him and console him. That was his first thought. He didn't want Nico to suffer alone, he had been doing so for too long.

But then, he paused. Nico had been alone for too long, so Will didn't know if he would welcome his presence or feel threatened by it. Instead of feeling better that someone was there for him, Nico might withdraw himself inwards even more. Will didn't want to make that mistake.

Nico and Will had become good friends. Will reminisced a fond memory and smiled to himself.

"I'm telling you, Solace. I'm fine!" Nico insisted. He was starting to get angry, he kept telling Will that he was fine. But Will knew better. Nico was just back from Camp Jupiter and looked more exhausted than ever. He must have shadow-travelled, given his drooping eyes and haggard face.

"Tell me, di Angelo, when was the last time you drank water?" Will asked, ignoring Nico's glare and thrusting a bottle of water in his hands. There was no one else in the infirmary, everyone liked Nico but avoided him nonetheless.

Nico gripped the bottle tightly, "None of your business. I'm fine." "You look anything but fine." Will said dismissively, "Let me check your blood pressure-"

Nico relented after a long argument. He slumped down on the bed and kept glaring at Will. Will kept checking his vitals and tried to hide the smile on his face. Nico attempted to look scary and menacing when he was glaring, and Will was not going to tell him how cute it made him look.

He didn't want to battle Ghostboy.

After he was done, Will expected Nico to storm out and throw the bottle in the trashcan, but none of that happened. He looked at Will keenly instead. "What?" Will asked.

"Nothing." He answered after a long time, "You're not afraid of me."

"It's not the same as before anymore, Nico." Will said softly, "You are one of us."

"Everyone says that," Nico murmured, "But I know they're afraid of me."

"Well, you are the son of Hades, you're mysterious, you have an obsession with McDonald's, you can talk to ghosts, you always wear black, even in the summer heat. But you must remember, you're not a fearsome monster or something." Will said. He looked away, trying to not blush. He cursed himself for spilling how much he observed Nico.

Nico chuckled. "Funny, Solace. But I will remember to bring you a burger the next time I got to McDonald's." He stood up and walked out of the infirmary. Will stared after him. Was he developing a crush on the boy?

Will gazed at the same boy. It was from that incident that their friendship grew. And now they were at a point where everyone could tell that there was something more between them. But Will didn't want to put a burden on Nico unless he was sure he reciprocated his feelings.

Will's heart ached to go forward and sit beside Nico. Granted, he was not the most talkative, or the most polite, or the most welcoming person, but Will liked him. For what he was. A hurt, lost boy with a kind heart, who only wanted good for the world, despite what the world had put him through.

So Will paused. Nico deserved his space, Will wasn't going to go and invade that. He stepped backwards and made a decision to go back to bed. The next morning, he'd ask Nico if he had gotten any sleep. He'd magically guess that Nico had nightmares and confront him about it. He'd then try to talk to him only if the son of Hades wanted to talk.

Tomorrow, he'd do everything for Nico.

But tonight, it was only required to give him space.
