" Nix, hey! I dropped some stuff off with Cale for Mari, but I thought I'd stop by and give you something for yourself. "
They smile bright when they sidle over. Ariados, present as always, waves her feelers at Luxray in greeting. The gift is in a small, carefully wrapped box.
" I made a couple of connections during my trip, and one of them's a Psychic expert who makes and models clothing, and well -- I figured you'd like these. "
Inside are a couple of things: a pair of bracelets decorated to look like Lunatone and Solrock that, when exposed to Nix's psychic energy, slowly moved and reflected their mood. The other thing is a hair clip that looked like a Bronzor that did the same thing, with small ribbons looking like a Bronzong's arms that were made a light material that moved with telekinesis.
" Cool, right? They're a little much, but I thought you'd like them anyways. "
It's cold out today, the perfect weather to get together with loved ones and enjoy each other’s presence. And, as luck would have it, Remy had decided to stop by for a visit, gifts in hand.
Remy’s smile is bright and infectious, eyes crinkling behind their glasses. Luxray’s whiskers spark and a deep purr rumbles out of his chest, a friendly greeting to Ariados.
The gift that Remy hands them is wrapped with care so Nix takes the time to open it without ripping the paper. A Psychic expert who makes and models clothing? Remy’s always had a knack for networking. Of course they’d expect no less from their favorite intrepid reporter.
Inside the box are two bracelets and a delicate hair clip. The accessories are all  beautifully-crafted. Nix takes a moment to closely appreciate the hand-painted details before slipping the Lunatone over their left wrist. The bracelet sits, pleasantly heavy, for a moment before Nix feeds some psychic energy into it. Once they do, the eyes begin to glow a cool, blue color and the whole piece begins to gently float and rotate.
It’s fascinating to watch. They’ll have to read the tiny card that’s enclosed with the gift, indicating which colors corresponded to which moods. But first? They reach out and draw Remy into a hug.
“Thank you so much, they’re all perfect.” And they mean it.

My review of Pokemon SwSh!!!! (or just Shield, cuz it was the version I play, LOL)
Finally, after finishing the game (including the Post game) and fully exploring the region, I think it’s time for me to say what I think of this 8 gen…
I know it’s obvious, but I mention it just in case: This is MY OPINION!!!, if someone disagrees with me its totally valid, I just ask for respect.
ALSO, English is not my first language so I might have certain lack/erros of spelling out there, or I repeat many words, hehe.
It is important to clarify that this review is based on SwSh base, everything that refers to DLC will NOT be included here, my opinion of the game is already done, the rest is extra content.
I wanted to give this review a more ‘’silly’’ tone, since giving negative opinions on the internet can be quite delicate and I wanted to relax the mood. Do not take this seriously, I still have my CONS with the game, but it is still genuinely enjoyable, which for me is the most important thing in a game.  I will talk about everything in general, so I will try to summarize certain points.
LET’S GO!!!
NEW FEATURES
Poke Camp, Curry Dex, Boxes and more
It’s like a dream come true for me, visiting other camps, seeing my whole party next to each other in the screen playing, discussing, running, is something really magical helps, me connect with them and know their personalities better, although I admit that I miss petting them lol and the minigames like in Gen 6. I also really liked the concept of curry as an alternative way to cure your Pokémon maybe I just wish there was a simpler way to know how to create new recipes (ALSO TMs).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Access to boxes anywhere is wonderful especially when you are breeding, just like, changing the name of trade Pokémon and the move reminder.
Rotomphone
It is not used as much as a phone, more than in the post Game (I can be wrong tho) but it serves as Dex and that’s what’s important really, the new feature is that now it includes the bicycle, that can ride both on land and water and in my opinion it is a degradation of what the concept of  “Poke Ride” was, but as I said before, it fulfill the function it should.
Trainer Cards
The concept of being able to share and customize them with other players is super entertaining, although it is a bit annoying that you always have to make a new code for each small modification. As for the cards of the main characters of the game, I will talk with a little more detail later.
Tumblr media
Dynamax
Tumblr media
At the beginning it was fun and exciting, but in the end it just became a gimmick that sometimes I had to use by obligation in raids. It is not as epic as the Megas and does not have the weight of the lore and cultural/regional connection like the Z-moves.
The Giga forms, although some are great, and I am happy that they gave Pokémon like Garbodor love, I also think that there were many missed opportunities, starting with the starters of the region or in giving forms to Pokémon that in previous generations already had like Gengar and Charizard.
Raids
They are incredibly fun, it is an activity that you can spend hours and hours enjoying, especially with friends but if we talk about NPCs… OOF, I understand that the purpose of Pokemon is that we all make friends and work as a team, but DAMN, if it is stressful when you lose a raid with 3 friends and an NPC, because the Pokémon only killed the NPC, it is almost impossible to defeat a 5 star raid with only NPCs, and as I said before I understand why they do them weaker, but there are some that are completely useless, I see you Martin Solrock lol.
Poke Jobs and Rotom Rally
I  will be honest, I have not used these features enough to have a solid judgment on these lol.
CHARACTERS
Magnolia
OK, I need to get this off my chest: I am incredibly disappointed and sad with this character, especially since she is/was our first old female professor, to be simply pulled into forgettable land.
Tumblr media
It started pretty well, but then it just disappeared until almost the end of the game to give the role of professor to Sonia … REALLY ?! I hate to say this, but she felt more like a device to give character development to Sonia, when she could have been used in scenes with Rose or repeatedly going into further detail about Dynamax for the MC (you know because she’s an expert about that topic…), before give the paper to Sonia. At least I am grateful that I had a little more screen time in the post game, although not even as a professor.
Sonia
Tumblr media
Thank you Sonia, for allowing us to discover and know the story with you, honestly she was the one who saved mostly my interest in the story.
But speaking of the character, I like her, I like her dedication to get out of the shadow of Leon’s achievement and to show her grandmother that she is capable, which she finally manages to fulfill, she still has certain insecurities, but that makes her more human, she’s the real professor (I’m still salty for Magnolia tho)
Leon
Tumblr media
Everyone knows from the posts on my PT on Twitter that I constantly bullying the character, but I really like him a lot, he is an excellent guide/brother through the game, charismatic, EXTRA, but very involved in his role as champion, in the sense that he is always aware of what is going on and helping in the process, in addition to being strong (one of the most difficult battles in the game). Definitely among my fav champions with Cynthia, Steven and Kukui (I count him as champion, SU!)
Gym Leaders
Tumblr media
I love them, their designs, personalities, the animations, they are all incredibly memorable, my favorites are Opal, Kabu and Piers.
But even so, I wish I had more to go on besides the lore on the back of their cards and their battle animations, I would have liked to see them more integrated in the story, and I feel that it lack a little more interaction with some of them, especially Allister and Melony in my case, but at least the trainer cards were a good addition to know them a little more, outside of being a Gym Leader.
RIVALS
OK, I’m prepared for everyone to hate me, *sigh*:
I… I DONT LIKE BEDE AND MARNIE THAT MUCH?… I mean, I don’t hate them, and they are both far from being the worst rivals, but I did expect a little more from both…
Tumblr media
Bede
Tumblr media
I am one of the few of the fandom that does not like rivals flat jerks, because for me, that is not a character but rather  a trait.
But I wanted to give it a try, and when I was just beginning to gain interest in him, they force his backstory in my face… And as I said, I like trainer cards…but more in characters, like G.leaders because these are characters that we don’t see much around the trip, but in the case of rivals, that appear several times and develop in the story, I personally like to get to know them little by little, discover their story and understand them in the course, here I felt it more as an excuse for me, to feel bad for him, especially at the moment he gives you his card.
His relationship with Rose is not explored enough imo.
And a complete turn-around that happens offscreen, like no joke, the MC literally didn’t see any of it, he just disappears after the Opal scene (but to give him credit, that scene is one of my favorites in the game).
Tumblr media
But you know, I understood that he was just a lost boy, and I’m happy that he found a better place, and I admire his effort to want to change, so in the end I ended up liking him a little more.
Tumblr media
Marnie
Marnie is interesting, because although I agree with many people that she would have benefited from having more screen time, I consider that a good character does not need all the screen time in the world, is about what but what they do with it, and the problem I have with her is that her time was not well spent.
I like her dream and I really like her relationship with her brother, however there was no moment when I really connected with her. I feel partly, that I don’t know her character, like her various personality facets.
Untapped opportunities: fight with her more times or with her…would have helped the character a lot imo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hop
Hop is the best rival of the three hands down, his trainer card contains the right and necessary information to make us have an interest in the character, but also the story lets us know him more: a competitive boy, but who has insecurities, fears of failure, that is reflected not only by the dialogue but also in his Pokemon team (no really, it broke my heart when I realized that he didn’t have his Wooloo in his team), that he is frustrated and suffers, but he gets up, discovers other tastes and with these finds a new path, ugh perfect, I adore him.
Tumblr media
Forcing the player to defeat him is torture, it is like defeating Hau in USUM and Wally in ORAS breaks my heart.
Rose
In short: ok character, decent /meh antagonist, and a horrible villain.
Like the climax of the story, Rose is forced in the end to be the villain, when he worked best as an antagonist, his plan makes no sense, his battle is disappointing, although his battle theme is awesome, but it just does not fit the character, the plan, nor the situation at all.
Tumblr media
But the character has a certain charisma, especially in his ‘’suit especially in his incognito suit.”
Oleana
Interesting character, with a potential backstory, with motives and characterization, who is underused in the story * sigh *… I LIKE HER THO
Tumblr media
Overall, I would have liked to see much more of the relationship between Rose, Oleana and Bede, I think it would have benefited the 3 characters…
Team Yell
They are … ok, it is cool to have a team that is not villain, that bother the player from time to time even for good reasons, I admire his dedication and loyalty.
Tumblr media
THE REGION
The region is aesthetically beautiful, the details, the structure, the contrast for example between Hammerlocke and Ballonlea, and despite not living in the UK or having had the opportunity to travel to the destination, according to my friends the region in which the games are based is very well related, which I think is excellent. However, despite the visual beauty, when it comes to routes and exploration it feels a bit limited, there are really some towns, where the most interesting thing to do is complete the Gym, there are almost no reasons to return to the previous town after having passed them…
Tumblr media
But, what I missed the most was the lack of exploration, discovery, the charm of the NPCs…
Many have told me: what about the Wild Area? Because of the ability to explore in an open area, it is probably the best in the franchise! and yes, the Wild Area is a very attractive part of these games (I will talk a little bit about this, later), but as I said, everything that is considered part of the capacity of the new console, I will not take it into account, it is unfair, because a portable console can NOT stand a concept such as the Wild Area although the developers had the idea before, not at least at SwSh scale.
And as I said before and again, the T.Cards are an incredible idea, but for me NOTHING compares to getting to know the characters through the world, dialogue, interaction… I’m going to use pokemon Moon as an example to make me understand better: (because it was the last main pokemon game I played before SwSh and that’s why I have it more fresh lol) Where you can enter Olivia’s shop, buy jewelry and visit her room and discover that she is a desperate single woman, or enter Gladion’s room and talk to the receptionist and that she tells you part of his story, that kind of things…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let’s see for example Melony, we know she has more children besides Gordie, but only for concept art, and yes, probably do unique models would take a while, but I honestly wouldn’t have be bothered  if they use generic NPCS, they did it with Lana’s sisters, then the anime can dedicated to giving them unique designs.
Tumblr media
Speaking of NPCs (mainly of those inside the houses), many lost the charm and authenticity they had… I mean, where is the lady who told us the story of her husband’s accident or the men of the coffee shop, who every time he prepares us a drink told us the story of where such a drink came from, ect… the NPCS on that side are boring…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
EXCEPT BALL GUY, he / she is awesome!
Tumblr media
I know this look like extra or unimportant things, but these little details really give life to the region, personality to characters that are secondary, it makes everything feel more united and also makes the main characters feel more inside the world, and honestly that is why on this hand, some cities felt empty for me…
But the other hand, I really liked what they did with the NPCs fans, see how the number increasing every time the MC wins a gym battle, makes the trip to become a champion feel more rewarding, It really helps you feel like a true champion when you got it.
Tumblr media
Other examples like the girl NPC who is going to support  you in the Gyms while their pokemon is evolving, or how the NPCS react and change their dialogue corresponding to what is happening… beautiful, for this part the worldbulding is 10/10.
Tumblr media
The wild Area
Tumblr media
Probably the closest we have for now of an open space area in a Pokemon game, I have to admit that I get lost at least 1 half an hour trying to find the next destination (I understand you Leon), it was hilarious lol, at the beginning of the game it turns out to be a fairly limited area, and you really can enjoy it in its entirety when you finish the main story, but I don’t see so much trouble with that, since it’s partly the point, for balance. In general, it is a fantastic idea although I feel that it is necessary to polish it in certain parts, and NO, I don’t mean THE TREE, but I don’t want to be so hard on GF at this moment, because is the first time they experiment with such concept…
Pokemon and Music
I put these two together because they both share a very curious characteristic: EXPERIMENTAL.
The pokedex is super solid, I love how these last generations, GF is doing its homework and is striving to make the pokemon belong to the region, as for animals, myths, culture…muah I LOVE IT, BRAVO.
Tumblr media
For me a good OST movie or video game not only has to be for the piece n yes, but how it is composed to accompany the events that occur on the screen, how it adapts and fits a certain scene of the story or character, and although I admit that in general it is not my favorite compared to other gens, there are tracks that have become part of my favorites:
Tumblr media
The crowd, the screams, the build up as you gradually approach the last pokemon, ugh. Dynamax is cool and everything, but THIS is the basis for me, of why these battles feel so energetic and exciting.
Tumblr media
That mystical atmosphere that catches you, is beautiful but at the same time mysterious, and perhaps many disagree with me, but the addition of the howls of the legendaries… I love it.
STORY
I think the game started extremely well, the introduction to the characters, the exploration, the introduction to the starters, the mystery of the legendary, everything is on track to me to enjoy this adventure to the fullest, but later I felt like it began to fall.
I understand that this is Pokémon and sometimes Pokémon does not need a complex story to make it enjoyable, as long as it makes sense and is entertaining, the problem I have mainly with the story is how they constantly get you out of it. I understand the concept they wanted to do: to take a more realistic point of view, in which adults take responsibility or in this case the champion and that later when you become champion you now can do what the champion did, and I like this concept, but the phrase of “you focus on the gym, we take care of the problems ” they say and they repeat it several times in the game like, I understood the first time!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Indirectly I felt like they were trying to took me out, and in consequence I lost interest in the story of the game, if it hadn’t been because Sonia bothered to explain to me the lore and a little of what was happening.
It’s more like “tell us” and not “show us”
Tumblr media
and that’s the risk of this concept: you play as a main character, because you want to be a main character or share the role.
The climax feels incredibly forced and confusing, I felt that there was no build out, almost no foreshadowing for what was happening at the moment, everything comes out of nowhere, and thats why, I started making Okami jokes with Eternatus, because I don’t felt that emotion of the ‘’Climax’’.
Tumblr media
Definitely in the part where the game shine was in the gym Challenge, as I said before, the gyms, the leaders, the atmosphere within them, the scale, the music that changing every time, until reaching the final pokémon, the challenges that we have to do before, the fans, becoming the champion, all this really is the identity of the game.
Tumblr media
Pokémon returned to its roots, where this story is the story of us again, and becoming the champion here is everything, it is one of the most exciting and most satisfying Gym challenge in all generations with gyms.
Tumblr media
ADDITIONAL
Here I want to give opinions according to the experiences I had with certain things within the game, which I think are quite PERSONAL, because each person plays different Pokémon, by the team of Pokémon, because he decided to level up more or stay at a lower level or how you decided to follow the story of the game.
Difficulty
Decent, by the standards of Pokemon of course, I try not to leveling to much, and if I do, there are maximum 3 levels and only one pokemon… So, gyms were easy in general, perhaps a pair that were difficult (Allister and Melony), but I never did black screen as in other games, but definitely the most difficult battle in the game is Leon, which I think is appropriate.
Online
Its horrible lol, There were not only once but several times in which I lasted like 1 hour trying to connect with a person, it is ridiculous. The signal falling every so often. But in general the biggest problem I have is connecting with very specific people, not even with the infamous Festival Plaza had so many problems.
Gameplay / Pacing
It is normal the same as always which is fine, some drop of frames out there in certain scenes but nothing serious, some cuts and lack of scenarios / designs that if you should in when they took me a little at the time, but absolutely nothing compared as the haters make it look, the game is still incredibly enjoyable, and it can be played perfectly.
The pacing started pretty well/decently, but from the fourth gym onwards, everything became very very fast, and not to mention the climax and the Pokemon League, honestly all this last arc felt super stuck….
So my opinion in general is: I enjoy the game like any other Pokémon game, it has its entity, it has new and interesting things that I would like it to expand more in future generations and it has personality. Is it my favorite game or my favorite generation? No, I definitely enjoyed other generations more, there were many missed opportunities that they could take more advantage, and I feel bad for GF for making them release this game for this year and these dates, because unfortunately some cuts are very noticeable. But the generation just starting ,so we will have to wait and see what we have for the future. For now, Thanks Pokémon SwSh, for another adventure…

Having Ausos as one of your pokemon can be quite the experience based on their personality traits, but also for how they function as a pokemon, or part of your pokemon team as well.
For starters, Ausos doesn’t like to be kept in a pokeball, they much prefer the freedom of being out in the open alongside their trainer, and out in the open world in general, where they can be free to explore and engage in other shenanigans if they want to. Ausos won’t hold it against you if you want to keep them in a pokeball, but this will affect their mood, which in turn will affect their performance in battles drastically-- most importantly however it will just result in a generally sad and anxious Ausos who mopes around a lot. Keeping Ausos in a Luxury Ball will lessen the aforementioned effects on them, but even so, they will not be having a grand old time and it’s honestly best to just let them out so they can roam around.
The composition of a trainers team will affect how Ausos performs, as well. Ausos possesses a unique trait that increases or decreases their overall fighting power/effectiveness depending on the pokemon they are teamed up with for a battle. If a trainer’s team consists of mostly Psychic-type pokemon, or pokemon that have origins relating to space (Cleffa evolution's, Lunastone, Solrock, Staryu/Starmie, Elgyem/Beheeyem etc etc) Ausos’s special moves will become far more effective (ex: in the case of Psycho Boost, it’s power will increase and it’s drawbacks will be removed). Conversely, if a trainer’s team has an abundance of Ghost, Bug, or Dark-typed pokemon, Ausos’ overall abilities will be weakened (though these demerits can be negated if Ausos and said pokemon like each other enough).
Ausos’ performance in type matchups is a little different, too. Normally, Psychic pokemon are super effective against Poison and Fighting types, and this goes double for Ausos-- think of their psychic moves as being Super Effective x2 against Fighting and Poison types. Ausos’ defense against Poison and Fighting type’s is phenomenal as well, and if in their defense form, they will take no damage or suffer effects from those types, period. This is a double edged sword, however, as Ghost, Bug, or Dark-typed pokemon/moves will in effect do far more damage to Ausos than they would your typical Psychic pokemon, and in the same vein, Ausos’ psychic moves will do little damage to those types. Ausos’ type weaknesses can be offset somewhat by the use of their defense and attack forms (if they can switch to them at the time), the use of certain items, and clever use of their regeneration, but even so,  unless you have a specific strategy in mind, it’s best to keep Ausos from fighting the latter types/keep them away from moves of that type.
Last but not least, using items on Ausos is tricky. Healing items are the worst with Ausos. Ausos’ regeneration is amazing, but this ability comes at the cost of them not being able to receive the effects of healing items during battle, which means that if Ausos happens to exhaust themselves by constantly regenerating, or they otherwise lose the ability to use said regeneration, that’s it-- whatever damage they take in battle at that point will not be reversible until the fighting has stopped. For all other items, it’s a roll of the dice whether they will be effective with Ausos or not. Consumables like berries have a higher success rate with Ausos, but any consumable or item that specifically enhances a pokemon’s stats is never guaranteed to work on Ausos, which is the price they bear for their powerful other forms.

Team Beth
Tumblr media
Here’s Beth’s Pokémon team! More varied than some of the others, Beth is usually attracted to temperament over typing. Tagging you Red @lady-redshield-writes!
1. Happiny-A little nurse in training! Happiny loves nothing more than to accompany Beth on her medic days, watching her Mama heal all who need her. She is also a frequent companion to Aris’ Togepi and J’s Blissey.
2. Rockruff-The best boy around! Beth’s sweet pupper follows her almost everywhere.
3. Solrock- Since they are lovingly called “the sun and the moon” by friends, Beth’s Solrock is the companion to Liz’s Lunatone.
4. Sneasel-With a little extra protection by her side, Beth finds the strength to face her fears.
5. Whismur-Beth relates quite a bit to this timid bunny, who spends most of their time on the sidelines. Beth is coaxing them out of their shell, little by little.
6. Hopip-It’s hard to find a Hopip in a bad mood. They certainly share Beth’s optimism.

Tell us about some of your favorite pokemon!
OK so the big Pokemon thing for me is when I was a kid I would obsessively play Pokemon Sapphire and Ruby, and those are like. My Games. I love them so much and I have such good memories of playing it; wasting away hours on long car drives or sneaking my GameBoy into bed and playing it when I was supposed to be asleep. I get such nostalgia every time I see images from the game or hear the music, and all of the Pokemon included in that game are my babies. however, a few of them stand out because I loved them in the game, or I have a story to associate with them.
Mudkip, Marshtomp, and Swampert are always gonna be my boys because I’d always get Mudkip as my starter Pokemon. my Swampert, Eamon, has been a feature in my Sapphire game for a decade now. I’ve just kept that game as it was, and spend time wandering around hatching eggs and getting all my Pokemon to Level 100, so Eamon is the same Pokemon from the last time I restarted the game. (thanks to a lot of moving my game/GameBoy is currently missing, but when I dig it out he’ll still be there.)
Zigzagoon is just fucking cute. always loved that guy.
Ralts got me outta my gourd when I first saw one because it was the coolest looking Pokemon I’d seen in a while. I remember it looked so differently to all the other Pokemon and 11 year old me thought it was awesome. because an NPC reoccurring character in the game caught it (with my character’s assistance) I thought that it might only be possible for that character to have one, so when I stumbled across one in the wild I was out of my mind with excitement.
Slakoth is just… a mood.
Nosepass is a weird and cool guy.
Plusle and Minun are adorable.
Camerupt was so great to come across because from an early age I’ve been fascinated by volcanoes and this game had a) a volcano location and b) Pokemon based on volcanoes! what more do you want!
Lunatone and Solrock… old gods…
Baltoy is a little alien looking guy, always respected that
Shuppet, Banette, and Duskull are all spooky boys and I’ve always loved ghost Pokemon like… some of their backstories are so eerie and when I remember being a little kid coming across a Duskull in a Pokemon graveyard at 11pm when I was supposed to be in bed and it was all dark? good nostalgia there.
honestly I could probably tell a story for most of the Pokemon in that game because I played it so much. I’ve logged thousands of hours in that thing and it’s all so familiar to me. though of course it wouldn’t be right to answer this ask without naming some of my favourite classic Pokemon, which would consist of Charmander, Butterfree, Rattata, Pikachu, Sandshrew, Vulpix, Meowth, Psyduck, Growlithe, Abra, Kadabra, Alakazam, Ponyta, Farfetch’d, Gastly, Onix, Staryu, Eevee, Mewtwo, and Mew.
and shoutout to Unown, too. love that mysterious boy.

title: here comes the solrock | chapter four.
pairing: mclennon, (paul mccartney/john lennon) | starrison, (ringo starr/george harrison).
summary: it’s the Monday after, aspiring pokémon trainer, Paul McCartney’s eighteenth birthday. It was today where he would get his first pokémon and start his journey to the regional Pokémon League. A journey which would prove itself to be filled with adventure, friendship, danger and romance.
author’s note: i’ve been pretty sick these past few days but i’m feeling better now! so here’s to hoping that’ll stick! (on another note; weird to get back into the habit of writing again. only been a few days but, man, it felt like years.)
????,
Paul woke up on a cold stone floor with no idea of where he was. He knew not how he had gotten there but he knew that he had been passed out in a heavy cloud of Dream Mist and most likely had been moved by the perpetrators to where he was now.
Groaning as he sat up, his whole body was aching, and he looked around. John was setting in a corner staring at him, concern visible across his face but he looked down in his folded arms the moment their eyes met. He looked around for George and quickly saw him rushing towards him tackling him in a crushing hug.
“You’re okay!” George let him go and his flickered across his face. Paul nodded. He felt sore, sure, but otherwise fine. At least physically. They had royally screwed up. There was no ignoring that. Not only had they failed in saving the Professor’s Pokémon but they had lost their own.
He looked around the small room that was their prison and increasingly felt panic overtake him.
”Where’s Ringo?” Paul was panicking. They were missing Ringo! He looked around the small room again. He was nowhere to be seen. George shook his head, “I don’t know. He wasn’t here when I woke up.” He sounded distraught, and dehydrated.
Paul looked to John with wide eyes but only got a shrug in return.
Oh, this was bad. Very bad. They couldn’t possibly think of harming Ringo, right? Or them? Could it be that Ringo possibly had managed to escape? But without them? If he had the chance; wouldn’t he have brought them along? Not that he knew the guy any well. They had just met.
Paul got a shock when a loud overpowering voice boomed out, “You kidnapped them? I told you to just keep the Pokémon! Idiots! All of you! Do something about it before The Lady arrives!” A loud beeping erupted as the call ended and loud hushed voices yelled out at each other.
“Damn it!” One said.
“We’re screwed!” Another.
And one yelled, “we have to get rid of them before the Kaili gets here!”
Paul turned his head towards the sound and could scarcely see three men dressed in all purple were the source of the yelling. A fourth appeared and Paul immediately recognized him. It was that guy! Clang! That guy who, with the lady, was the fault of Paul and his friends' placement in this rotten cage.
“Fools! The mighty Kaili would not come to this place!” His arms were crossed as he stared the men down. The Stunky from before was at his side still, staring down the men from its low height.
“And we cannot just let them go! They will surely go to the police and then yet again those filthy detectives will be after us. We have just managed to get them off our tail! Let us not repeat past mistakes!” The Stunky growled at the men who jumped back in fear. “We have already lost one! Let us not lose anymore!” and the men nodded hastily at the man as he turned away and disappeared from Paul’s field of vision.
“What does he mean by they ‘lost one’?” Paul heard George ask and he turned to look at him again. He looked no less distraught than before. Paul didn’t know what to say and glanced at John in the hope that he possibly knew.
If John knew he was being looked at, he showed no signs of it as it looked like he was trying to burn holes in his hands by staring.
What Paul wasn’t aware of; was that John blamed himself for their capture. He was the oldest of the three and had felt a certain responsibility for them. And felt that he had failed in that.
“Maybe…” Paul swallowed deeply. God, he could do with something to drink. “Maybe… he escaped?” George nodded carefully, hopeful in what Paul said to be true.
Suddenly; a door slammed and John shot to his feet and within seconds stood with his hands around the bars of their jail. It was obviously originally meant for Pokémon but clearly, it worked for humans too.
“You bitch!” He sneered at whoever had entered the room.
Paul stood up and looked to what had caused the sudden anger and movement in John, as he had seemed rather immovable in his pensive state not long ago.
It was the woman from before. The woman with the Musharna who had used Dream Mist on them. Ahme, now with a small Skitty at her feet. She and her Musharna was probably the biggest reason they were stuck in this concrete prison without their Pokémon. Even more so than that Clang guy.
John’s sudden outburst made more sense now.
John, who was staring down the woman. She stood near the bars but not close enough for John to reach her, which Paul feared the possibility of him doing.
But Ahme wasn’t looking at the closest standing man but rather at Paul. Her look was peculiar. Sympathetic and almost… sad? Why would she be any of that? Isn’t this what she and her gang would have wanted?
Her hands were folded and she looked down briefly when her soft voice said, “I am sorry.”
Paul and George glanced at each other; both confused. She was… sorry?
“I did not… want to… do that to you,” she seemed nervous and often glanced over her shoulder to the door behind her. What little she has said seemed… treacherous to her gang so she was perhaps more than fearful of discovery.
“I don’t want to hear your fucking excuses,” John again sneered at her. Paul stepped up next to him and gently placed a hand on his shoulder, causing John’s head to immediately snap towards him; staring him down.
“I… think we should give her a chance to say her piece,” Paul looked at John, unsure of what his reaction would be. The other man only looked quietly down at the hand on his shoulder and huffed as he stepped away from the bars.
Paul nodded, more to himself than anyone else, and looked back to the woman.
“Your friend,” she started and George suddenly appeared next to Paul. Standing where John once did. Interrupting her, George asked; “is he okay? Did he escape?”
She nodded, “the Dream Mist didn’t work on him... And while we weren’t looking; he escaped. Or… well, I saw him. But I didn’t stop him.”
Paul blinked, “why not?”
“I…” she glanced shortly at her feet, “Epoch didn’t always steal Pokémon. We used to do things for good. And help people. And now, we’re… we’re criminals!”
She was visibly upset and drew a heavy sigh, “I can’t leave Epoch before I find my sister. But I can hinder them in their… evil deeds. In secret.”
Her hand dug around in the pocket of her large purple coat and out she pulled a bundle of keys. One specifically she pulled off the ring and gave to Paul through the iron bars.
“Take this,” she said to Paul in a hushed voice.
“But only use it once the alarm goes off. Your friend will have gone to the police and they will come. Clang and I will escape but in our rush, we won’t get to the stolen Pokémon before.”
A loud voice yelled out from the other room and Ahme stepped away from the prison. She glanced at the door and quickly whispered, “they’re in the basement,” with a pointed look to a heavy door to her right and rushed out the door with the Skitty close behind her.
The door shut close and after a short moment, Paul looked down at the rusting key. On it was a carving of a bare-chested woman with ten arms. Huh. What was this symbol supposed to depict? Was it the icon of the Epoch? Some kind of depiction of their leader Kaili?
Nevertheless; with the key in hand, Paul felt a wave of reassurance come over him. They could do this!
He quickly pocketed the key and looked away from the door to behind him. John was leaning against the wall he had once been sitting up against. His mood still indescribable. Before he was upset, understandably, but now he was back to being quiet and contemplative. Paul only hoped he would be alright.
George was looking at Paul. Both waiting for the alarm they were so anxious on. She had made no mention or comment as to when it would go off. But it was hopefully soon.
But Paul couldn’t wait. He anxiously paced back and forth, expecting the alarm to go off any moment. He felt he hadn’t had the chance to really... react to what had happened. He felt that he had to remain calm… collected. But it wasn’t working out. Especially now when it was all coming together and all there was left was to wait.
He turned to George and stopped his constant pacing. George looked at him, clearly concerned. Which Paul admittedly felt bad about. His pacing back and forth must hack made quite an appearance.
He stepped up to George and in a moment, lost the strong grip he had at appearing ‘tough’ and rested his head on the other boy's shoulder with a heavy sigh.
“I’m so sorry,” he muttered into the leather of George’s jacket.
“I didn’t mean to pull you into all of… this.”
He looked back up at George, who shook his head and said; “you couldn’t have known it would go like this.”
And just as Paul was about to say something, apologise and insist, a loud high pitched buzz erupted throughout the building. John jumped away from his place against the wall and came to stand next to Paul.
“It’s go time,” he looked to and from the cage door and Paul as the beeping continued through an eruption of yells and Pokémon calls coming from the other room.
Paul nodded and quickly made his way to the door with the key ready in hand. It was hastily pushed open and all three men rushed to yet another door. The one that should let them into the basement and the imprisoned Pokémon.
The industrial steel stairs lead them down and through a slim dark hallway. Paul desperately felt around for a light switch and as something clicked; stark clinical white light swept over the room. There were several cages. A lot more than what had been in the basement of the Escavalier Inn. Paul saw his Snivy. The Professor’s Pokémon, John’s and the ones belonging to Ringo. Apparently, he had not managed to get them with him when he escaped, though the interestingly pattern egg were nowhere to be seen.
And then there were many more Pokémon. Of a large variety; from Psyducks to Growlithes to Pyukumukus. From all that he saw, he could tell there was a lot of people out there missing their Pokémon.
His leg was embraced in a tight hug by Walton as he let him out of the cage he shared with a group of Eevees. Paul could see no logic in the way the Pokémon was paired up. It seemed rather random. Not that was at all his main concern. Either way; he picked up his Snivy and was quickly embraced in another tight hug.
“How’re we supposed to get them all up?” George asked and looked around the room filled with now free Pokémon.
A booming voice answered that before Paul could; “no need to worry about that, young man.” Paul immediately looked to the source and saw an older moustachioed gentleman stand at the end of the staircase. At his feet proudly stood a Stoutland. John shot to his feet but before any of the young men could react, he introduced himself;
“I am Detective George Marting,” he pulled out a flashy badge. Martin pointed with an open palm to the large Pokémon, “this is my Pokémon partner, Samuel.” The aforementioned dog Pokémon growled, though it felt non-threatening and more like a greeting. Paul wondered how Martin had gotten the large dog down the stairs, as he hadn’t heard the sound of a Pokéball.
“My partner, Mr Epstein, and I will take over from here.”
Paul was about to comment on it when loud footsteps were heard coming down the stairs and the serious looking man stepped aside to the let whomever it was pass. The first to come through was Ringo! He looked stressed but was quickly elated by the sight of his Octillery and Mudkip leaning against each other at George’s feet. Though, another thing about Ringo that Paul just couldn’t help but snicker at was that a large baby carrier was strapped to his chest with the triangle patterned egg resting inside it. It made quite a sight with Ringo running toward his Pokémon while still dressed in his pink suit.
Following Ringo was another man. He looked younger than Martin but older than Paul and his friends. He was kindly looking with his hair gelled back, though it was fighting back and curling at his forehead. He was followed by a stunning icy Ninetales. He patted the detective on his shoulder who muttered a, “speaking of.”
“Boys,” the man Paul would assume was Brian Epstein started, “your friend Ringo here has told me all about your situation.” His hand was still on the shoulder of his partner. “Once we have cleared up the building together with the police; my partner and I will drive two of you home in our car while another will go with Mr Starkey.” He pointed to Ringo. Starkey? Weren’t his last name Starr? “Whoever goes with him is up to you.”
George quickly volunteered and looked flustered once he had realised the speed at which he had done so; much to Paul’s amusement.
“Now,” Epstein turned to Martin, “is all the Pokémon accounted for.”
The man sternly nodded and looked to the group, “you boys can just head upstairs now with your Pokémon and the Professors.” And then he and Epstein proceeded further into the room and looked over the now freed Pokémon as Paul and his friends passed them by to head upstairs.
The drive home passed by quickly. Paul sat in the back with John as the two detectives sat up front, trying to make conversation with the two boys. It wasn’t a big car and Paul sat close to John, pushed up against his leather coat, with their hands occasionally meeting in quick warm touches; making Paul feel rather flustered whenever it happened.
Paul tried to keep himself distracted from the thoughts that nourished from the small touches. The thoughts of him and John. He was handsome, yes. Even as he looked a mess, they both did, from their capture in the dark space of the Epoch hideout. John’s quiff had long since given up. He had dirt stains and gravel on his jacket. But Paul couldn’t help but stare. Though, he did at least try to hide it. Not wanting to be caught and creep out the older man.
The detectives, Epstein and Martin, had made sure to feed them. Together with George and Ringo before they all parted their ways, they had stopped at a café near the police station. The Paras-ian Café it was… cleverly named. The logo matching the Pokémon in the pun. What the bug type exactly had to do with their food… Paul tried not to think about. But it all tasted fine and had been paid for by the detectives. They had largely congratulated them on their work in helping to find the lost Pokémon but had also made time to scold them about how they had put themselves in grave danger.
They had made things clearer to them. They had not been passed out for more than a few hours.
Ringo’s apparent immunity to the Dream Mist was this; as a kid, he went through many medical procedures and they had used the help of Pokémon moves to either calm him or outright make him sleep. Years of that had made him built up a slight immunity. Not a complete one, but enough for him to have woken up quickly and run to get help.
John; now having his mood improved by the presences of daylight, food and his Pokémon, gave the detectives a run for their money with a large foray of snide comments and sarcasm. It had helped to cheer up the still downcast Paul, who was dreading how to explain all of what had happened to his father. The detectives had only called George’s parents as he was still legally a minor. And they would definitely have brought that information further along to his father.
Paul kept unto the hope that his father wouldn’t let this little… detour distract or complicate the Pokémon Journey he was yet to start out on. Paul still wanted to go out into the world! To train Pokémon and defeat gym leaders! George had wanted to go along with him on the said journey until he himself was old enough to get his first Pokémon and trainer license.
But now, as Paul stared out the car window, at the moving landscape; it all seemed a little bleak.

The Rejuvenation Protag bio no one asked for
Videl-Rey ???, preferably just Videl.
Age: 19
Sibling: Elise
Team:
Regalia-Decidueye
*Castel-Vanilluxe
Realeza-Gothitelle
Vittoria-Beartic
Knightly-Sandslash-A
Alcazar-Solrock fusion
Before Aevium in brief:
His first mother was pretty much emotionally neglectful, from his early childhood to the time he ended up in an orphanage around the age of 8. Despite the stressful situation, Videl came to be rather outgoing, confident and pretty popular between both kids and adults. As bad luck would have it he was at the wrong place when an overly protective unfezant gauged his right eye out and left him quite shaken up. As good luck would have it, he was adopted by none other than THE Nancy and also got a new little sister. He took his new family smoothly and to fame even smoother.
Starting in his teenage years he took to modeling while Elise followed her mom’s path to Idol fame. Unfortunately you don’t really get many fans for being a model, in fact Videl was more famous for being the adopted family member of Nancy and Elise than his own merit, which bothered him a lot. He ended up harboring deep salty envy towards his sister which mixes weirdly with his inclination to be brotherly and caring. Eventually that envy and obsession of being loved by others got him in a tiff with another model and he got himself wrapped in a huge mess where he ended up being pretty hated amongst fans and peers. Videl became an anxious wreck, lost weight, sleep, definitely tried to hide it from his family. Failed. And just started seeing a psych before suddenly talk about moving to a new region. He agreed to get a trainer card only because it doubled as a passport. Nancy promised that once they were there he could stay with her to get back on his feet while Elise went on her big adventure. Well. It didn’t really pan out that way…
>His pokemon’s nicknames all have to do with royalty. Vain and self-centered guy? Go figure.
>Because he only has one eye he makes sure to stand in a position to that he can see all the action, without making it obvious he’s half blind. Also he always has his pokemon walk to his right.
>People he’s particularly fond of:
Elise, Melia, Venam, Marianette, Anju, Tesla
>He is really needy about attention, which tends to cause friction in the group. After winning against Angie against all odds, he became aloof and moody when all the attention fell unto the infirm Melia, and not his accomplishment.
>Elise is the “true hero”, but he’s here for the ride because he definitely does not want to be alone.
>Melia tried to confront him about his, concerning choice in fashion (outfit that sorta looks like Angie and her maids) and pokemon (Ice types, gothitelle, and that solrock monster). He got defensive and deflective promptly left.
>He geniunely feels like the mature older person responsible over the group. Despite his moods he actually really cares about them.
>Intense whines about not having a spa day like everyone else
>One of his favorite experienced thus far has been needing to crank up the party. It almost made him forget about dying and feeling like dying.
>He likes to spend time with Melia alone to talk about feelings and how cool Tesla is.

...It's The Master Plan!
OK, strap yourself in; this one is a bit of a roller coaster.
For a good long while, I was pretty convinced that there was no way I could glitch either Mew or Deoxys into the Gen3 games, as I had done in Gen1 for Mew and Gen2 for Celebi, until I stumbled across a glitch known as Glitzer Popping. I have no idea why it is called this - it seems that it was intentionally picked to mean nothing specific, but also to not sound too generic.
A French hacker known as Metarkai fond a way to exploit some pre-existing glitches even further, allowing you hatch any pokémon you could wish for, and then these exploits were then documented in video guide form by a YouTuber called ChickasaurusGL. And man, are they ever complex. I am not going to even pretend I understand this stuff - it is way more complex than any of the glitching I have tried out previously - but I’m going to summarise the process in really basic terms. However, if you are interested in the original video, it’s linked below, but beware: it is is over an hour long!
youtube
In very basic terms, the glitch uses a bug known as the Pomeg Berry glitch in order to allow you to access the pokémon in your PC boxes during a battle - something you shouldn’t be able to do. This works by taking a Ghost-type pokémon that knows the move Curse. Curse reduces the HP of the pokémon by half - rounded down - in order to inflict damage each turn on your opponent. The ‘rounded down’ part is how to exploit the glitch. You essentially use Curse twice with a Ghost-type that has an odd number of HP, guaranteeing you are left with just 1HP. You can then use a Pomeg Berry on the pokémon, which reduces it’s Hit Point EVs, dropping it to 0HP without it having to be in battle, so it doesn’t truly faint. Now, when you enter a battle, you have no non-fainted pokémon in your party and the game glitches, sending out a placeholder icon known as Decamark (??????????).  Once this happens you can open your pokémon party screen and scroll off the bottom, accessing pokémon that are stored in your PC boxes.
Accessing the pokémon in this way can cause them to become corrupted, turning them into eggs. You can then repeat the process an double ‘corrupt’ into something referred to as indicator pokémon. This part is where it gets tricky. To achieve it you need to use pokémon with specific stats, specific EVs, specific moves, and specific hidden IDs. These hidden IDs can’t be known in-game with the exception of the pokémon available as trades from  NPCs. Since these are predictable values you can corrupt them by giving them the stats/EVs/moves needed.
I figured the easiest way to try it out would be to attempt it alongside the video. The glitch only works on either non-English EU cartridges or US cartridges, so I was going to have to buy another copy of Pokémon Emerald since mine was an English EU copy. This was fine - it’s not like I would risk corrupting my existing save file, containing all the hard work I’d put in so far, so I turned to the internet and eventually managed to obtain a US copy of Emerald. It took a while as there are a huge number of fake GBA cartridges on eBay and, despite my best attempts to be careful, I ended up with a few duds before I got a genuine one.
I threw together a very random team, since I needed to play through Emerald again to get to a certain point where I could try out the glitch. They needed to b high enough level to make things easy but not so high they wouldn’t listen to me. I’m not going to do a full entry on this team but here is a brief round up below:
Moone the Lunatone: I flip-flop on whether I prefer Solrock or Lunatone - and I was obviously in a Lunatone mood when selecting this team. The Rock- and Psychic-typing came in very useful in the early game where you normally wouldn’t see it.
Zippy the Banette: The key pokémon for this glitch as it is a Ghost-type that was able to learn curse. Curse behaves differently with non-Ghost-types so Banette was one of the few options available to me to execute the glitch.
Banquet the Swalot: A rather under-rated pokémon, it was nice to give Swalot an outing as it had a suitable level to make the game easy, but not risk getting too over-levelled.
Guy the Breloom: As with Lunatone and Swalot, Breloom was fully evolved but not too high a level to be useful. The part-Fighting type made short work of the early game Normal-types.
Humph the Camerupt: Since the glitch involves hatching eggs, I sent over Camerupt who has the Magma Armour ability. This reduces the amount of steps it takes for eggs to hatch, which could be handy.
Demi the Sharpedo: Originally a member of XD team until Walrein and Sableye ended up providing the same type-coverage. I needed a Water-type to get about, so I decided to give Demi a second chance to shine.
And here they all are (they still get a pic as I still played a full game with them pretty much!):
Tumblr media
After smashing my way through the game as quickly as possible, and obtaining the in-game trade pokémon required, I configured them correctly and I was able to make the stages above work correctly. I used Bannette to correctly carry out the Pomeg Berry part of the exploit with no issue, and I even succeeded in the single/double corruption required to get he Indicator Pokémon. So far, so good.
The next bit is where it got really complex. I had to capture some Smeargle to transform them into Mew and Deoxys. It had to be Smeargle, due to it’s ability to learn any move through the use of its signature move, Sketch. Again they had to be set up a certain way - including being fed certain combination of pokéblocks to ensure the created Mew/Deoxys would be obedient, since this flag was usually set by the event item - a step we were skipping completely. I finally obtained and set up my Smeargle and now all I had to do was to double corrupt them, however...
I. Just. Couldn’t. Make. It. Work.
I just don’t know why. Things started out OK; I managed the single corruption stage after a couple of attempts, but try as I might I just couldn’t manage the double corruption step. Every single damn time, the Eggs remained the same. Now, it could be pure dumb bad luck since there is only a percentage chance of each corruption/double corruption working, but the chance is high enough that I would have thought I’d have seen a success at least once, given the number of times I tried. Additionally, there is no way to know for sure whether or not you are just endlessly trying out the same procedure over and over, with no hope of getting the desired result because you have screwed up a step earlier in the process. At one point, to try and mitigate that possibility, I started all over again, right from Step 1 of the glitch, but I ran into the same brick wall.
This was so disappointing. It was worse knowing there was a way to do this that I just seemed unable to achieve than when I thought Mew and Deoxys were simply impossible to obtain. In my frustration, and after spending many hours failing, I turned back to the internet and searched even deeper, looking for any other articles about the glitch, some clearer or easier instructions, anything! And then a ray of hope: Distribution ROMs.
Back in the day, before all games were online and internet compatible, whenever there was a event during which you could be transferred a rare pokémon, you actually had to go to a specific location - usually a store or festival of some sort - between certain dates and take your GBA with you. You would then be linked up to an on-site GBA which was running a specific cartridge that just distributed a rare pokémon or item direct to your save file. A good example of this would be the Old Sea Map which was an event-only item that was required in order to encounter Mew in-game. The distributions ran only in Japan during part of 2005, for attendees of either the Pokémon Festa convention or the PokéPark theme park. Incredibly, over on the site digiex, someone has manage to obtain ROMs of these original distributions, meaning it is theoretically possible to receive the event pokémon as if you were actually present at the time it occurred!
Now. Does this count as legitimate? The obvious answer is no - and that is true in as much as it only really ‘counts’ if you obtained it via the event legitimately at the time. But since this also means my Gen1 Mew and my Gen2 Celebi also don’t count ‘officially’ as they were obtained by glitching, I think this is an acceptable solution to my problem. I would argue that this is actually more authentic than if I had been able to glitch the game as described above, and certainly doesn’t violate my ‘no Action Replay’ rule. It is as close to the genuine experience as it is possible to get nearly 15 years after the fact. Now fulloy self-justified it was back to eBay to buy a GBA flash drive and a memory card.
First up; Deoxys. Deoxys was able to be encountered in-game once you got a hold of the item the Aurora Ticket. This could be used on the ferry to reach the otherwise inaccessible Birth Island. I loaded the Aurora Ticket distribution ROM onto my flash drive and managed to send my Emerald save file an Aurora ticket at my first attempt - it worked perfectly! As soon as I had the ticket, I headed to Birth Island and captured Deoxys - something I never though I would be able to do in Gen3! It was immensely satisfying and I enjoyed being able to battle and catch Deoxys rather than just being gifted one directly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next up is Mew. The Old Sea Map - the Mew-equivalent in-game item to the Aurora Ticket was something that was only ever released in Japan and unfortunately there is no ROM that has been discovered for this yet. However, I’m not too sad as there was also a direct distribution of Mew where you were gifted it directly - and the ROM for this has also been made available on digiex.
Getting directly the pokémon is slightly less cool, but at this point it is not a concern for me! I loaded up the ROM for the Mew distribution and attempted to send myself one. This actually took a couple of goes ot get right as it seems the GBA link cable I was using needed to be in a specific way round to distribute Mew - but once I fixed that, it worked like a charm. I’d finally done it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hoenn National Pokédex: Completed!
I quickly sent both Deoxys and Mew over to my final Emerald save file and my National Pokédex stats read 386 seen / 386 caught. With all the extra time I had spent in Emerald leveling up all the different evolutions, my total play time was up to a whopping 103 hours, 40 minutes! That isn’t even counting the additional 17 hours, 42 minutes that I spent on the US version, trying to get the glitch to work...
I am absolutely dreading what Generation 3 will have done to my graphs. But honestly? Worth it!
