lottie’s arc in yellowjackets makes me so crazy. here’s this girl who has always been affluent. who could have provided her teammates with almost anything they needed. whose friends ask her for the most important things when everything lottie has is gone. when all she has to offer is her body and a mind she isn’t sure she can trust.
so lottie tells them about her intuitions, she leads group therapy/meditation, she grounds their emotions however she can. and she pricks her finger every morning so nat and travis come home safe, she cuts her palm open on the off chance it will get them food, she makes her body a punching bag for a girl with too much grief and rage to function.
she spends a year and a half bleeding and suffering and tearing off pieces of herself to save her friends however she can. her friends who don’t even see her as a person anymore. she becomes a symbol more than anything else. then goes home. back to where the things she bled and suffered for are abundant. she gave away everything she had and was expected to somehow still be the person she was before. she’s completely catatonic because what can she do? what is left of the girl she was? how can she go back to being a girl at all when she had been a god?

Listen I’m sure someone has already talked about this scene, and way better than I ever could, but it makes me so feral and I need to talk about it too
This is hands down the most depressing scene in the entirety of NtN in my opinion.
Surface level it’s Gideon yelling at Crux, but the significance here comes from the exact word choice. “You could have lived for her. But you didn’t know how.”
She uses past tense.
It’s not about Crux (who arguably did live for Harrow, considering his purpose was raising and protecting her, and could by all means still do this if he changed his mind about dying for Harrow.) It’s not about the congregation who worshipped her.
It’s about Gideon, who can’t live for Harrow anymore, because she’s dead. It’s about the promise she broke at the end of the first book. She’s talking about herself.
Harrow made her promise that when it comes down to it, Gideon needs to save herself. If only one of them can survive, it has to be Gideon.
Tumblr media
At the end of the first book, Harrow is actively planning to sacrifice herself so Gideon can live, bringing up the promise and then diving into what this is actually about. Namely, how she owes Gideon her life back.
Tumblr media
And Gideon breaks that promise, instead deciding to sacrifice herself for Harrow.
“I can’t keep my promise because the entire point of me is you. There is no me without you.”
Gideon doesn’t know how to live for Harrow, how to exist without her, even though it’s the most important thing Harrow ever asked of her—and so she dies for her instead.
“You could have lived for her. But you didn’t know how.”
And the sacrifice ended up being rejected by Harrow, because it’s not what Harrow wanted. It never was. So Gideon ended up feeling rejected and like her life and giving it up wasn’t worth anything. And she still immediately offers herself up again without hesitation. She’s ready to die for Harrow all over again, even now that she’s already dead.
“Die. Die for her. It’s the only goddamn good you’ll ever do her.”
Gideon is fucking furious—so much that Nona can’t even place her voice anymore—but not at any of the people who would rightfully deserve her fury. Not at Crux. She’s furious at herself. This whole scene is so damn heartbreaking to me.
And out of all the cruel things Crux has done to Gideon throughout her life, this might be the worst one: telling the girl who died for the Reverend Daughter once and was ready to die for her a second time that she couldn’t even get that right. That she managed to screw up the one purpose she was actually supposed to serve, the only good she’s ever done for Harrow.
Tumblr media
Gideon is dead. She can’t do what Harrow asked and live for her anymore. What the hell is she supposed to do if she can’t die for her, either?

something something adaine has always struggled with feeling like there is something wrong with her, that she is not enough, that she is wrong somehow. she starts making friends and tries to unlearn the idea that she is hard to love and not worth the effort. then there’s a boy who might have a crush on her, who seems sorry for what his party is doing, and she doesn’t know how she feels about it. but no, he was just using her, because why would anyone care about adaine abernant? something something

I heard a lot of comments talking about the trailer scene of Charlie crying in front of Angel's door and how that means he might die or ascend to heaven, but this is my personal theory:
The scene happens before battle. Maybe even right after she gets back from heaven. We see how depressed she is in the episode 7 clip, so I think she was just walking down the hall (either aimlessly, to go to her room, or to seek out Angel) and the knowledge that Adam said they'd go after the hotel first hits her. She feels like a failure. She told everyone she could help and had a plan and it's all fallen apart.
I don't know, but I just feel like that scene happens before anyone gets hurt/dies. Episode 7 or early episode 8.

I need a spin off where we see Inej tracking down every man who visited her in the Menagerie. I just read the part where this guy smelling like vanilla came in, and he recognized her from a show with her family, and she cried while he abused her and he didn't care....and my heart just completely broke even more than with the other parts about the Menagerie, which were already horrible. He forced her to mix her happy childhood memories with this hellhole. And if Tante Heleen had found out Inej cried, she would have beaten her up on top of it all. I can see what people mean when they say Inej's trauma wasn't taken seriously in the show

I was going through my drabbles folder when I came across this & I figured I might as well share it! I guess you could view it as an extension of I’m tired of wanting more / I think I’m finally worn. So uh, enjoy the Dorothy angst under the cut.
Is this it? Dorothy wonders as she stares out into their cold and dark living room, exhaustion wrapped around her like a thick fur coat. It's heavy and fuzzy at the same time; a weight pulling her towards the ground that serves as a protective layer from the world all the same — because nothing can quite make it through the thick haze anymore. Not entirely.
Her bare feet touch the cold hardwood floor and she should've been shivering by all accounts, but she doesn't feel the chill so much as she knows it's there, rationally. She's too tired to mind it. To feel— anything, really, aside from this gaping, desperate exhaustion.
Is this it? She wonders. The moment she'll finally break? The day she'll fall apart?
She's tired. Oh, so tired. Of Stan, of their life together, of the eternal charade she plays — the part of a loving wife and a happy mother; the part of a woman who chose this life, rather than that of a girl crudely pulled under by the currents of life.
She's asked herself this very same question before, and every time, she found she did fall apart — but only briefly. Short enough for her to pick up the pieces and glue herself back together again come morning, when she'll be even more exhausted, sure — but no one will notice anyway.
They never do.
She wonders if she'll fall apart enough for there to be no way back this time — if she'll shatter into so many tiny little pieces, there's no gluing them back together again.
Is it bad, to long for it in some strange, fearful way? At this point, her own involuntary destruction seems like the only salvation within reach.

do you think they told lottie they would come for her the first time... do you think they told her that they would come for her and she waited but they never did, do you think they'll come for her now... she's bleeding dying killing breaking for them and they turn away, they turn away, her part is over. do you think she waited - do you think she'll wait? shauna beat her half to death and they let her, her parents committed her and they let them. they used her up and then they didn't need her anymore. do you think she waited.

𝐒𝐈𝐅'𝐒 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐔𝐌𝐀
Being orphaned as a baby. Granted, she was later adopted by Heimdall's family, with him becoming her adoptive big brother, but it's the fact she didn't get to know her biological parents which hurts.
Because of that, Sif struggles to find her sense of purpose, self and belonging in the world. Heimdall is blessed with sensory capabilities letting him see nearly all things in the Nine Realms, becoming the Gatekeeper of Asgard, but what can Sif do?
Hence, why she turns towards her interests in the Valkyries, wanting to become a female warrior for Asgard and make her mark in the world. By learning to fight and become a warrior, Sif feels like she can be in control and has a purpose. She wants to be brave, strong, and protect/fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. She also wants to honor her deceased parents.
However, the road to proving herself as capable warrior despite being female is not an easy task. It is difficult. Especially when, after opening up to Loki one drunken night, she wakes up to find he has cut off her hair as a prank, only adding salt to the wound. She feels used and abused and beyond hurt, becoming furious. He had not only insulted her as a warrior, but as a female. No one in Asgard would take her seriously now. From that point on, Sif has lost all trust in Loki and remains cautious over him.
Lorelei enthralling Sif's former lover, Haldor. So enchanted, he forsook his family, friends, and the woman he loved. This led to a deep-seated hatred between Sif and Lorelei and an unlucky battle with love for Sif. Add Thor falling in love with Jane to that list, and her incident with Loki...and ouch.
The loss of Queen Frigga. Not only was she her Queen, but like a mother figure to Sif who grew up raised alongside Thor, Loki and the Warrior Three's. Add Odin to the list too.
The Warrior Threes deaths as I covered HERE
Asgard's Destruction...nuff said. She lost her home and everything she knew one right after the other...but it isn't done yet.
Thanos attacking the Statesman and killing half of the passengers, Heimdall, Loki and almost Thor....
Being snapped/blipped out of existence for five years, only to return back and worry if Thor and her people are still alive or killed by Thanos and then to learn how to process all the grief she went through before getting snapped as she tries to acclimate to life in New Asgard without her family and friends....
I'll cover that last one in detail some other time, but yeah, Sif has a lot to go through when Ragnarok hits. And it isn't easy for her.
