FINDING MEANING — l.dh, s.hb (PREVIEW)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
PAIRING: (mainly) haechan x fem!reader, best friend! sung hanbin x reader
GENRE: major angst, eventual fluff, classmates to lovers, super slowburn.
PUBLISH DATE: to be determined.
WORD COUNT: to be determined.
WARNINGS: contains heavy and triggering topics. self-reflection, grief and unhealthy representations of mourning, character death (hanbin), reader goes through grieving process, self-harming behavior and drug abuse. A few sentences in the beginning about weight insecurity, fat-shaming, and weight loss. If any of these topics are triggering for you, please proceed with caution, or skip the fic. You are responsible for what you choose to read. Because this fic has pretty dark and serious topics, MINORS DO NOT INTERACT. Due to the nature of the fic, it will take a while to get into the Haechan x reader part, so if you’re looking for something lighter, this might not be the fic for you hehehe
SYNOPSIS: you had never been good at dealing with loss. with the passing of your best friend still a fresh wound in your heart, you find yourself alone in the dark, left to pick up the pieces of your grief.
then one day, against all odds, you find something that might just be your compass, in the shape of a boy named lee haechan, who swears he will stand by your side to navigate the storm.
And though the pain in your chest makes you struggle to breathe, he chooses to stand with you under the rubble of your broken world, and he shoulders some of the weight.
NOTES: a good friend of mine passed away very recently and I needed to write something to get it off my chest. Maybe this will help me process my grief, or maybe it won’t. But i found the process of this very therapeutic. I sobbed a lot while writing this, just because the main character is a reflection of how I’m feeling currently. It’s mainly a self-indulgent piece. I’ve experienced so much loss in the past few years, and this is a cathartic piece for me.
(Side note) I’m actually kinda nervous to post this since it’s literally my first fic on tumblr but I hope it goes well!
Tumblr media
THEY SAY HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS, and you suppose they are right.
For your home had been left a heaping swelter of smoke and ash, doors torn from hinges and paint scraped from walls. There were no remnants of the solace you once held in your sacred home, now reduced to gunpowder and gasoline, and all that is left is a house that isn’t quite a home, leaving you feeling a stranger in your own house—an alien in your own body—and you can’t help but curse the very person who created that quote because how dare they make you feel so powerless, knowing that you had lost the very one who held your heart, and now you will never get it back.
The irony of the quote is not lost on you. The positive implications; that a home has no bounds, that four plaster walls and a shingled roof don’t fit the criteria. That instead, a home is made of flesh and blood and sweat and tears.
You found your home when you were six. You found him in Mrs. Park’s kindergarten class in the shape of a round boy named Sung Hanbin, with grubby glue stained fingers and paper cuts from the broken origami butterfly he had made you. Your home had a gummy smile and eyes that reminded you of summer days in Busan, and a heart so big, it made your home feel like a castle of gold and ivory. He invited you in and you made it your own, and the origami butterfly was the first decoration you placed on the shelves of your newfound house.
You protected your home when you were ten, earning a month of detention when you used a pair of your mother’s favorite kitchen scissors to cut off Sophie Jung’s long ponytail on the playground after she made him cry by calling him a ‘chubby potato,’ (and at the smile he gave you as you wiped away his tears, you realized you’d gratefully take a year of detention if it meant he’d smile at you like that again).
You’re fourteen when Park Jeongmin spreads rumors about you to your whole grade because you rejected him, and when the whispers start to crawl up your back and dig holes in your mind, Sung Hanbin is there to walk with you and defend your name. He pulled you into his warm, enveloping arms and told you not to listen to the whispers, and yet he was the one who seemed to be stewing in anger. It was the first time you had seen Hanbin angry, and it was the only time he had ever gotten in trouble at school (and after punching Park Jeongmin straight in the nose and getting cleaning duty for the whole spring semester, he told you that he’d do it again if you asked him to).
You both were eighteen when he grew into his body and his beauty finally became noticed by more than just you. You protected him when he overworked himself over and over and over again, when he would run until his knees buckled and his chest collapsed, chasing an unattainable goal built on a road of the insecurities you tried to convince him were his own perfection. You held him when he refused to eat and sat with him when he cried, and you tried to hug his demons away even when they told him he wasn’t trying hard enough. You whispered in his ear that he was worth every bit of love you held and more, that every inch of your home was worthy of being lived in and loved, that it doesn’t matter what shade the walls are or how expensive it was, he was your home and you would never change a thing about it. And that no matter how many people looked at him now that he was conventionally attractive, you had always seen him as beautiful.
It’s New Year’s Eve of last year, and you both are twenty-two and more than a little drunk when you share a kiss. Had you both been more sober, it probably wouldn’t have happened. After all, at a Christmas party a few days earlier you’re sure you saw him ogling the boy from your poli-sci class, Zhang Hao—who had been taking up more and more of Hanbin’s time these days—but yet here he was, the boy who was nothing less than perfect in your eyes, pulling you by your flushed cheeks as the timer ticked down to one, and when the world erupted in cheers as the new year emerged, your ears fell into a calm hush, because Sung Hanbin’s gleaming eyes had fluttered shut and his lips finally met yours.
It was the one and only kiss you guys shared, and yet, despite the alcohol in your system, it was committed to your eternal memory, a vivid painting you had framed and hung in your home.
As the night came and went and the morning took its place, he woke you up how he usually did after a night of drinking; with a cup of coffee, a few ibuprofen, and a plate full of food, and no matter how much you wanted to say something about what happened the night before, you didn’t. And he didn’t either.
Maybe you both were pretending it didn’t happen. Or maybe he didn’t think it was important enough to bring up. Hell, maybe he didn’t even remember it. All you knew was that you were too chicken shit to open a can of worms that shouldn’t even be opened, because you thought it was better to keep your mouth shut if it meant keeping him.
Minutes turned to hours and hours turned to nights. Your calls going unanswered and rain checks from him created a monster inside you named jealousy. He was slipping through your fingers, opening the doors of your house to someone new. You hated the person it made you; hated the person you became. You locked the doors and chained him up. You protected his gold-filled heart because it was worth more than money, worth more than jewels, worth more than anything because he was your home and you couldn’t bear to open the doors to someone he might just like living there more.
Maybe it’s the vile, bitter taste of regret that runs through your veins right now, thinking that maybe if you had told him earlier about how you felt, it wouldn’t have come out sideways. Maybe if you had been less pathetic and scared to let him know, he wouldn’t have walked out the door last night. He wouldn’t have gotten in his car and left. Maybe he’d be in your arms right now, and you’d be joking about how silly Ricky’s hair looked or bickering over what to make for dinner tonight. Maybe if you had said something earlier, an unresolved argument wouldn’t be the last conversation you’d ever have.
They say home is where the heart is, and you suppose they are right. For your heart is ripped out of your chest, artery from artery and vein from vein, placed in the cold, unmoving hands of the boy who you would have died for, and now you’re left with the words you wish you had said, because you could have protected him and you didn’t.
This is your fault. You made him leave.
There’s no recovering from this. There’s no feeling better, because your home currently lies in a coffin, cold and breathtakingly beautiful as ever, and you see yourself lying right beside him because he had taken the part of you that was worth living for. The truth was impossible to reckon with, a bitter pill that you would never, ever be able to swallow down.
Sung Hanbin had died, and he took the world and everything good in it with him.

Hey there, I'm Z, your resident indie horror film enthusiast and aspiring filmmaker/singer-songwriter. My horror journey began with animated stories on YouTube and creepypastas during my childhood, sparking a passion for horror lore. Although relatively new to watching horror films, I've become somewhat of a hardcore fan, specializing in French new extremity, occult, gothic, and cosmic horror. I also love Ari Aster movies, the Saw franchise and literally any movie with my boy Barry Keoghan in it. Excited to share my thoughts on movies with you all and contribute to this blog! If you guys want to read more of my opinions, you can read my reviews on my letterboxd.

I've been into horror media since getting slowly introduced to it since the teen years, and at the moment could be considered as an enthusiastic horror enjoyer. I love the monster/alien movies, big time gore and body horror as well as cosmic horror. My favorite horror movies are Bride of the Re-animator (1990) and Little Shop of Horrors (1986). I'm also dreaming of becoming a special effects make-up artist at some point in my life.
Would hold hands with Slenderman and totally not get murdered.

Hi I'm Laura and I was a giant anxiety-ridden wuss as a child which somehow morphed into being really into horror and true crime as an adult. I love literally all kinds of horror except extreme/torture. I also write scary stories for fun and very occasional profit.

that is SO COOL that 13 yr old did that with your diaries. I'm jealous! are there any particular insights you get from reading what past you had to say? and/or teenage wisdom that we grown ups could use a reminder of?
hehehe thank you!! I love that diary so much, you have to imagine 13 year old me who was not like other girls (spoiler: yeah she was), who had just read sophie's world by jostein gaarder and thought herself a great philosopher (good for her), listening to "Conversations with my 13 year old self" by Pink on repeat (thought I was SO CLEVER with that), slowly transcribing all her old diaries into a new one, making sure that her comments are in a different pen colour (purple) to the original diary text (blue-black fountain pen ink) and that all the entries from the different diaries were in chronological order.
some of my favorite things are:
the whole first page is just me complaining about not finding the purple pen I wanted to use originally, so I had to use another purple pen, and then I go on about how I really should clean my room more often.
the next page is me finding the pen and actually starting the first letter to myself, telling me to ONLY READ THIS WHEN YOU'RE GROWN UP and explaining how I wanted to document what I was like at 13 in case I ever look back and wonder why I was the way I was or what I thought about certain things. I remember feeling so different at 13 than I had at 11 or 12 and being scared of change and of losing the way I felt at the time so I had this very strong urge to write down all my thoughts. This was also definitely influenced by sophie's world, bc the author talks about how children are the best philosophers and how we lose that ability as we grow up if we're not careful.
Even now, I keep going back to that diary every few years to add a little letter to future me in the back, so now I have a collection of letters from 13, and then 18-now, I love reading through it!
11 year old me lied about her "first kiss" (peck on the cheek at spin the bottle), and wrote a different guy's name who technically was my "second kiss" (peck on BOTH CHEEKS PLUS A HUG at spin the bottle.. that game ESCALATED QUICKLY and 11 yo me stopped playing when we got to the kiss on the mouth round haha bless her). 13 year old me called 11yo me out but still wrote a wrong guy's name LOL
13 year old me talks about what a boy-crazy partygirl 12 year old me (went to 2 boy-girl parties in one (1!) year!!) was and how NOW AT THE VERY MATURE AGE OF 13 I don't care about parties anymore (I stopped being friends with the cool kids and wasn't invited to any parties anymore) and I READ BOOKS ABOUT PHILOSOPHY NOW AND SPEND ALL MY TIME THINKING ABOUT PHILOSOPHICAL QUESTIONS. (13 yo me truly was a philisopher, but also the queerness and alienation from my peers was showing and I was compensating in an aggressive not like other girls kinda way)

Comfort Food
BLOSCtober Day 2
Prompt: Cosmo's
"What can I get you, sweetie?"
The gentle voice of Sally the waitress caused Ben to lift his head from the table, where he'd been resting it atop his crossed arms.
"I, um …" The boy glanced around the table at the concerned faces of his parents and siblings before taking one last look at the menu before him. "I guess I'll have an extra-crunchy grilled cheese with a chocolate milk."
"Okay, then." The cat-like alien waitress scribbled the last order for the Lightyear-Nova family into her order book, then headed for the counter to give Cosmo the order, humming along with the cheeful but gentle tune streaming from the jukebox near the diner entrance.
The overall atmosphere at Cosmo's that evening seemed to be one of joy and contentment, with most of the customers wrapping up a successful day with a favorite entrée, side dish or sweet treat. However, this particular day had been a rough one for the Lightyear-Nova family.
Buzz made a bad call during a mission that resulted in another space ranger's injury.
Astrid and her friend Megan Parsec got into a fight with Cordelia Tachyon at school, and the former two were sent to the principal's office.
Alexander was bringing his school project, a part of a model city his class was working on, to his classroom when he accidently tripped and fell on top of his model, smashing it beyond repair.
Ben's pet goldfish, Corporal Fish-Face, had died, leaving the small boy's spirit crushed.
But the one who'd had the worst day, and was the reason Buzz decided to take his family to Cosmo's for dinner that evening, was Mira. After dealing with a fussy and irritable Sophie all morning, the Tangean space ranger and mother of four had finally gotten her youngest daughter to calm down when she received a message from the Tangean royal physician, who informed her that her father's illness had taken a turn for the worse.
"Why didn't you get the cosmic chili, Dad?" Astrid asked, confused as to why her father had ordered something other than his usual favorite.
"Well, sweetie -" Buzz was about to answer his daughter's question when Mira interrupted him.
"Buzz, I know I've been telling you to lay off the cosmic chili for awhile," the Tangean began, "but it doesn't have to be today. You can treat yourself, too, if you want."
Buzz just smiled in reply. "Mira, I understand you're worried about your father and whether he'll recover. I thought I'd do you a favor and forego the chili tonight, since we all know how it messes with my sleep as well as my- "
"Buzz, please!" Mira held up her hand to silence him. "Do we really need to be discussing that in front of the kids? And here, of all places?"
The three oldest kids smiled and began to giggle, for the moment forgetting their troubles. Sophie, not understanding what was so funny, squirmed in her high chair, trying to get a better look at the tiny bug-like car that was making its way across the floor of the diner.
************************************************************************
In the kitchen, Cosmo had just finished preparing the Lightyear-Novas' meals and was about to ring for Sally to pick up the order when a thought occured to him. Sally had mentioned to him when she gave him the order that the family looked unusually depressed that evening; possibly because of an especially bad day or troubling news, the waitress guessed.
If there was one thing the alien chef believed strongly in, it was that there was nothing that helped cheer one up after a bad time like good food.
Cosmo placed six coupons for a free dessert on the tray with the Lightyear-Novas' food, along with a small but steaming hot bowl of cosmic chili. Satisfied, he rang for Sally to pick up the order.
"What-?" Sally looked at the chili, confused as to why it was on the tray when it wasn't originally part of the order.
"Tell him it's on the house," Cosmo explained.
************************************************************************
"Here we are, sweethearts," Sally said sweetly as she placed the family's orders on their table - meatloaf in barbecue sauce with broccoli and mashed potatoes for Buzz, a grilled chicken sandwich with salad greens for Mira, chicken and dumplings for Astrid, pasta with garlic shrimp for Alex, an extra crunchy grilled cheese sandwich for Ben, and applesauce and mixed vegetables for Sophie.
"Thanks, Sally," said Buzz as he and Mira handed out the dishes to their kids. He'd just passed Astrid's food to her and was reaching for his own when he noticed the small bowl of chili Cosmo had included with the order. "Um, Sally, I don't think any of us -"
"Cosmo says it's on the house," the waitress explained. "He also included a free dessert coupon for each of you."
The kids' eyes immediately brightened at the mention of dessert.
"Please, Mom and Dad?" begged Ben. "Can we have dessert?"
"Yes, please," Astrid chimed in.
"Besides," Alex reasoned, "Cosmo was just being polite when he offered us those coupons. It would be rude to refuse."
Buzz chuckled. "He's got a point there, Mira."
Mira sighed, knowing she was outnumbered. "Well, alright. We can have dessert. But as soon as we get home, I want each of you kids to brush your teeth and go straight to bed. Got it?"
Astrid, Alex, and Ben all nodded eagerly. "Yes, Mom."
A ringing from the window, followed by a "Pickup for Quiche Lorraine!" from Cosmo, caught Sally's attention.
"Well, I'd better get going," said the feline-like waitress. "Let us know when you're ready for that dessert."

Are you a good swimmer? 🏊‍♀️ No. I never got swimming lessons so I have no idea how to swim.
Have you ever ridden in a taxi? 🚖 Yeah, mostly when I lived in Michigan. My mom sucked at keeping cars so we’d often use public transportation. I think it’s why I heavily rely on it now as an adult because I’m so used to it, plus it saves the environment.
Do you own a scooter? 🛴 No, but I did when I was a kid.
Name three things that taste good with pineapple. 🍍 Orange, apple, mango.

Rules and Regulations - Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun Imagine
Paring: Dad!Tyler x Daughter!Reader, Uncle!Josh x Niece!Reader
Word Count: 2,434
Warnings: Terrible mother, F slur, mentions of tattoos (?)
Authors Note: Okay so the reader in this story is LGBT, and it is quite an important part of the story, so if you don’t feel comfortable reading that please feel free to skip this one. This is all around a really cute fic and I might turn it into a series if you guys want. The time skips are really inconsistent in this though, they’ll go from being a few minutes to being a few months. I might go back and add dates for those though. Anyways enjoy.
“Jenna, Caroline spilled her cereal!” I called upstairs.
“Just give me one second and I’ll clean it up!” She yelled from Hannah’s bedroom.
I nodded even though she couldn’t see me. “Just a couple more days and I’ll be able to see Dad and Uncle Josh...” I muttered to myself.
“Y/N?” I looked down to see Caroline tugging at my leg. “Can I have more cereal?”
I looked to the table covered in Cheerio’s then looked at the clock on the stove. “How about I just make you a sandwich instead. It’s lunchtime anyways.”
She nodded excitedly. “Ham and mayo please.” She beamed.
“Of course.” I let out a little laugh while grabbing the jar of mayonnaise. “Alexa... Play Twenty One Pilots.”
“Playing songs by Twenty One Pilots.” Soon after Stressed Out came on.
“I love this song!” Caroline quickly jumped out of her seat, running over to me. “Will you sing with me?”
I let out a little laugh and started to sing the chorus.
“What’s this? Daddy’s music? Whose idea was that?”Jenna appeared in the kitchen, holding Hannah in her arms. Caroline quickly pointed to me. “Should have known.” Jenna let out a quick laugh.
“What can I say I’m a daddy’s girl.“ Laughing a bit at the nickname given to me.
Soon everyone had their lunch and we were all sat at the table. “When is daddy coming home?” Carolina asked breaking the silence.
“Two more months sweetie but we’re going to visit him soon.” Jenna smiled at her daughter, but the disappointment was obvious. Everyone missed seeing dad, I’m glad I get to finish tour with him and Uncle Josh though.
“You excited for school tomorrow?” I asked changing the subject. Jenna sent me a look, silently thanking me.
“No, not really. On Friday my friends dared me to kiss a boy.” Caroline shot her head up. “I said no because obviously, boys have cooties!”
“That’s good, you’re not allowed to kiss any boys until you’re 16.” Jenna gave her a stern look, laughing shortly after.
“Daddy said I can’t kiss any boy’s until I’m married.”
“Is that so?” I laughed
“When are you allowed to kiss boys Y/N?” Caroline asked.
“I don’t have any rules on when I can kiss boys.” I shrugged.
“Really? That’s not fare.” She huffed crossing her arms.
“Well I think boys are gross so Daddy and Uncle Josh didn’t set any rules.”
“Why did Uncle Josh get to have a say. I bet he would say I could kiss boys younger...” She muttered the last part to herself.
“Because Uncle Josh is like a second dad to Y/N.” Jenna intervened, noticing how I had become uncomfortable.
“I’ll explain it to you later, okay Caroline?” She nodded in response, going back to her sandwich.
----
“Y/N?” A small voice came from my door.
“Caroline? What are you doing up?” I asked looking at my clock. It may not be a school night but a six year old should not be up at eleven o’clock at night.
“I can’t sleep...” She looked off the to side.
“You wanna sleep with me?” She nodded, climbing onto the bed. “What’s got you up Tiny?”
“I was thinking about how close you are to Uncle Josh... Why is that?”
I sighed. “When I was your age I didn’t have anyone other than Daddy and Uncle Josh.” She squirmed in my arms a little. “So when it came to raising me, Uncle Josh helped Daddy out.”
“He’s always been there for me, sometimes more than Daddy has. Meaning all those rules and regulations that Daddy and Jenna set up for you, were set up by Daddy and Uncle Josh for me.”
“Regulations?” She looked up.
“Guide lines.”
She nodded her head. “I’m gonna miss you when you go with Daddy and Uncle Josh...”
“I’ll call you every night.”
“But who’s going to make me ham and mayo sandwiches?”
“You’re mom is capable of making them.”
“It won’t be the same...” She mumbled.
“How about this, I’ll make you lunch after you go to church on Sunday and I’ll make you sandwiches to bring to school for the rest of the week?” She nodded.
The conversation ended and Caroline fell asleep.
----
Monday came quickly and it was time for me to fly to Charlotte to join Dad and Uncle Josh on tour. I waved goodbye to Jenna, Caroline, and Hannah. Caroline was very visibly crying while holding onto the Build-A-Bear I made more her the day prior, mine tucked safely into my bag.
“Traveling alone?” The barista at the cafe asked.
I nodded. “I’m meeting my dad and uncle in Charlotte.”
“That’s cool, I would never be able to go to school that far away from my parents.” She laughed.
“It’s not like that. They travel a lot and I’m flying in to travel with them, around the country actually.”
“They on a road trip or something?”
“You could say that I guess, but you wouldn’t believe me if I told you.”
“Try me.”
“They’re on tour, they’re uh in a band.”
“What band maybe I’ve heard of them.”
“Uh Twenty One Pilots? They just released a new album”
“Wait their the one’s who made that Stressed Out song right?”
“Yeah that’s them. That songs from their new album.”
“Cool, not really my style but I do really like that song. What’s the new album called?”
“Blurryface.”
“Codi! Stop talking and get back to work!”
“Sorry, here’s your coffee.” I smiled at her walking out of the cafe.
----
“Uncle Josh!” I yelled, smiling.
“Y/N! What’s my favorite niece been up to? Don’t tell Caroline and Hannah I said that.” We both laughed.
“Not much, although this new hair place opened and I think I might get my tips done to match yours.” I said pointing to his bright red hair.
“Nope absolutely not!” A voice was heard from behind me. I turned around and smiled.
“Dad!” I wrapped my arms around him.
“Well hello to you to Kiddo.” He laughed wrapping his arms around me.
I let go of him and turned around to pick up my bags, only to see Josh had grabbed them already. “Why do you have this tiny bag?” He asked, holding up a medium sized backpack.
“Dad told me to bring my uke.” I shrugged grabbing both it and my regular backpack.
----
“Bye dad!” I shut the front door walking to my car. As I got in my phone rang. “Hello?”
“Hey cutie!” A voice could be heard over my speakers, indicating my phone had connected to the Bluetooth.
“Hey Codi.” I laughed. “I’m on my way.”
“You better be, I can’t wait to see what you’re doing to your hair.”
“I thought I told you?”
“Nope.”
“Whatever you’ll see soon enough.”
We talked for a little while longer until I pulled into her drive way. Codi bolted outside and into my car. “Well hello to you to Dakota.” She laughed a little as well, kissing my cheek.
The drive to the place was fairly quick. Codi had been blasting music the whole ride, but turned it off when I pulled onto North High Street.
“Here it is.” We both looked up to the sign. The word Bishops could be read in white, with an orange-red back ground.
“Hey! How can I help you two lovely woman?” A girl with brightly colored hair smiled.
“Uh I have an appointment, it should be under as Y/N Joseph?”
“Right, here you are.” She smiled looking up. “You’re dying your tips red, right?”
“You’re dying your tips? I though you’re dad said no?” Codi remarked from behind me.
“Yes, but Uncle Josh said yes. As long as I got red.” I smirked knowing that what Josh says, goes.
The girl laughed. “Well my names Max, I’ll be doing you’re hair.” She lead me to a chair. “So red huh? Is that your uncles favorite color or something?”
“His hair’s red, it’s been a joke since I was young that I should always be matching with him.”
“I’m assuming you’re really close then.”
“Yeah, he’s like a second dad to me.” I smiled.
----
“All done.” Max turned the chair around so I could see it.
“It looks amazing! Thank you so much!”
“Looking good, cutie.” Codi laughed wrapping her arms around my shoulders.
“Just come in when you need a touch up or you want to switch the color.” I nodded paying.
“Thanks again Max!” I said walking out of the shop.
“You’re dad is so gonna kill you.” Codi laughed
“Oh definitely.” I smiled getting into my car.
----
“What did you do to your hair!?”
“Dyed it.” I shrugged looking at Dad.
“Was this Josh’s idea?”
“No it was Zack’s. Yes it was my idea Tyler.” Josh laughed.
Dad gave a quick disapproving look to Josh. “You’re lucky I love you too much.”
“Y/N your hair looks great I’m glad it came out the way you wanted.” Jenna smiled as she walked in.
“Thanks Jenna!”
“You knew about this as well?!”
“Well yeah, she double checked that it was okay with me.”
“Y/N!”
“Well would you look at the time, I’ve got a date with Codi. I love you daddy.” I smiled kissing his and Josh’s cheeks.
----
“So you have no interest in seeing your mom?” Codi asked.
“She had 17 years to come and visit me. She left me on my dads front door and said she never wanted to see me again.” I sighed, not taking my eye’s off the road. “She doesn’t have any right to see me. And its not like she could say she’s obligated to see me, I’m 18 and even if I wasn’t, her and my dad never fought for custody.”
I turned into Codi’s neighborhood and she promptly ended the conversation. As the car sat in the driveway, I turned to face her. “I’ll see you tomorrow Codes.” She kissed my cheek and left the car.
I sighed backing the car out of the driveway. “This is the right thing to do Y/N. She doesn’t care about you.” I muttered to myself on my way home.
----
“Y/N! Someone’s here to see you!” Caroline yelled as she ran into my room.
“Who?”
“I’m not sure but Mommy told me to come get you and then go to my room.”
“Okay thanks C.” I stood from my seat and started walking downstairs. “Jenna? Who’s here to see me?”
In front of me stood Jenna, Dad, Uncle Josh, and two people I didn’t recognize.
Uncle Josh was the one to break the silence. “Y/N why don’t you sit down?” I quietly sat down between him and Dad.
“I-I’m confused, what’s happening?” I turned towards Dad.
“Sweetie don’t you recognize me?” The women spoke. I shook my head.
“Y/N this is your mother.” Something about the way that Dad said mother didn’t feel right. He said it as if I should have known who she is. As if she didn’t ditch me when I was one.
“I thought is was right time we saw each other again.”
“I’m sorry what? Saw each other again? You left me with Dad when I was a baby! You never cared about me so right now I’m confused on why you’re here!”
“I wanted to see my baby again.” She retorted faking politeness.
“You had 17 years to do that. Why are you here now?” Silence fell over everyone. Jenna went upstairs to make sure the girls wouldn’t come downstairs.
The front door closing and footsteps broke that silence. “Hey Joseph’s I’m here for-” Codi spoke unaware of what was happening in the living room. “Y/N...”
“Codi, can we reschedule? Maybe to any other day in my life. Clearly something must be happening today since she’s here.”
“But Y/N, today’s our movie date.” She playfully whined.
“I’m sorry date?” A sharp voice came from behind me.
“Yes a date? Is there an issue with that?” Codi questioned staring at the unfamiliar women.
“No daughter of mine is a fag!” Silence fell again.
“Get out.” Uncle Josh’s voice broke through.
“Excuse me? Who are you to tell me what to do?”
“I said get out. I will not tolerate anyone insulting Y/N or her girlfriend. Especially someone as vial as you.” He spat standing up from his chair.
“This is not you’re household nor family.” She scoffed. “Tyler you allow this man to be near our child-”
“My child.” Dad finally spoke.
“Excuse me?”
“My child. You never once even asked about Y/N. You have no right to call her your child.”
“I would never think a man of God like yourself would allow someone as disgusting as her,” She quickly pointed at me. “To live in your house.”
She grabbed the arm of the man with her and dragged him out of the house. “I’m sorry N/N.” Dad said wrapping me in a hug.
“It’s fine Dad.” I replied. Another pair of arms wrapped around my waist.
“Josh?” Dad laughed.
“What? I wanted to be apart of the moment!” He laughed.
“Group hug!” Codi yelled grabbing onto me as well. Dad and Uncle Josh readjusted to fit her in.
“Did someone say group hug?” Caroline’s voice could be heard as she ran int group of people.
I picked her up as Jenna walked downstairs with Hannah in her hands. “Yeah someone said group hug.” I smiled as Codi wrapped her arms around me again.
----
“Okay you’re dad couldn’t handle you dying your hair and now you’re getting a tattoo?” Codi laughed.
“Hey! I have permission this time.” I playfully shoved her as I pulled into the parking lot of the tattoo parlor.
“What are you getting anyways?” Codi asked as I sat down in the chair. I explained it too her and finished right as the tattoo artist finished putting the base on my arm.
----
“Y/N I swear if you got anything stupid or inappropriate-” Dad cut himself off seeing seeing the tattoo. “Y-You got one of my lyrics tattooed on you?”
“Okay either you’re blind or full of yourself.” I laughed looking at the tattoo on my arm. I was a tree house set on fire and had the lyrics from Forest around it. “Anyways of course I did. I wanted my first tattoo to have a special meaning.”
“I got one as well!” Codi proudly showed off the small band wrapped around her wrist. “Dad’s prolly get get emotion once he asks what it means though...”
“Well I’m glad you both got things that mean something to you.”

I’ve recently seen some questions about wlw in Romance Club, so I though I’d make a (somehow extremely long) post about the best wlw romances (in my opinion) in RC
Now, there are definitely some books that are better than others, and there aren’t a ton of female LIs, but (with the newer books especially) the female LIs they do have are pretty spectacular.
So, for wlw I’d recommend:
Love from Outerspace - Ursula the alien knight and Miranda the bubbly old friend (not current best friend, but MC’s friend from childhood)
Heart of Trespia - Delias the sweet soft maid and Giselle the very flirty badass bandit with scars (Giselle owns my ass right now it must be said)
Path of the Valkyrie - Liod the buff sexy and terrifying Valkyrie and Vanadis the beautiful soft witch who will cut you (Vanadis’s route starts in season 2)
Sophie’s Ten Wishes - Daisy your boss’s extremely flirty and fun daughter (who you sleep with automatically as a plot point), and Blake (the biker chick you can be in a poly relationship with)
—>(Sophie’s 10w is the only book where you’re at the very least bi by default since MC always sleeps with Daisy. It’s also the only book where you can be in a poly relationship - MC/Blake/Logan)
Good wlw plots with caveats:
Rage of the Titans - Aphrodite is gone for most of season 2, but she’s awesome in season 1 (her sex scene is incredible) and I think she’s finally coming back in the next update, however every LI in this book is more or less sidelined except for Adrian and Murphy
Legend of the Willow - Shino-Odori doesn’t become romancable until season 3, but I love her so much - and then u can diamond mine seasons 1&2 if you’re not interested in the boys
Chasing You - Rachel is mtf trans and awesome (you just have to ignore Alexander being a forced LI for season 1), and then there’s Eve the (definitely a sub) mafia girl starting in season 2
On Thin Ice - Liz your incredibly beautiful friend who doesn’t take your shit (she’s a little sidelined, but she’s also much more of a main character than the fully sidelined LIs)
Heaven’s Secret - Mimi the incredibly sexy and very forward demon (she can die if you’re not careful, and she is sometimes sidelined by the boys, though less often than the characters in the section below)
Good wlw characters who have been sidelined so far but who I still love:
Sins of London - Leslie the flirty barkeep (who I have to say is a personal favorite of mine), Abbie the medium (who has an important/interesting plot but admittedly takes a backseat to the boys)
Arcanum - Mary the widow (who may or may not have offed her hubby it’s up for debate but I’m sus), she’s awesome but there’s some dubious stuff in her romance path (sort of maybe drugs MC with some candles, but most of the characters in that book are of dubious morality)
Dracula a Love Story - Sandra is absolutely gorgeous but she takes a serious backseat to Vlad and Leo, though she is in the entire series from start to finish
Bonus:
Gladiator Chronicles - lots of female LIs but MC is male

Your posts have me watching Leverage while working. Would you recommend jumping from 0 to Redemption after a few episodes? What are the important ones to see?
I'd say watch the original Leverage in full if you can, because a lot of the emotional weight in the sequel is built from the death of a main character from the original, and you do benefit from having the full background on how much he meant to them. That said, here's a bunch I'd say are worth considering, and why, so you can decide which ones you actually want to see. I included more than half (unfortunate if you're low on time).
S1E1 - The Nigerian Job (how the team got together) S1E3 - The Two-Horse Job (Eliot backstory) S1E4 - The Miracle Job (Nate backstory) S1E6 - The Stork Job (Parker backstory; I have a lot of issues with this episode but it is important) S1E7 - The Wedding Job (introduces the FBI duo, best meme) S1E10 - The 12-Step Job (heavy focus on Nate's alcoholism) S1E12/13 - The First David Job/The Second David Job (finale two-parter has heavy focus on Sophie and Nate, introduces Nate's ex-wife, addresses what happened to their son)
S2E1 - The Beantown Bailout Job (Irish Mob, which is important, getting the team back together) S2E4 - The Fairy Godparents Job (overall fun, Sophie development) S2E7 - The Two Live Crew Job (another con team gets involved, introduces recurring antagonist Cha0s, played by Wil Wheaton) S2E11 - The Bottle Job (Nate's alcoholism, more Irish mob) S2E12 - The Zanzibar Marketplace Job (Nate's wife again) S2E13 - The Psychic Job (Parker development) S2E14/15 - The Three Strikes Job/The Maltese Falcon Job (it is a finale, but it's just... very much my least favorite ngl; also this is one of the ones where Nate gets shot)
S3E1 - The Jailhouse Job (the team breaks Nate out of supermax prison) S3E3 - The Inside Job (Parker backstory, introduces her mentor/father figure) S3E6 - The Studio Job (this one is just really fun, that's all) S3E9 - The Three-Card Monte Job (introduces Nate's dad, as well as including the Irish and Russian mobs; yes this is why the Irish mob is important) S3E11 - The Rashomon Job (a classic, absolute must-watch, gives you great insight about how the cast worked solo before they became a team) S3E12 - The King George Job (Sophie development) S3E13 - The Morning After Job (Parker fakes her death) S3E14 - The Ho Ho Ho Job (Cha0s is back) S3E15/16 - The Big Bang Job/The San Lorenzo Job (massive Eliot development, the team steals a small country, Sophie fakes her death)
S4E1 - The Long Way Down Job (Eliot and Parker development) S4E2 - The 10 Li'l Grifters Job (murder mystery, just a lot of fun) S4E4 - The Van Gogh Job (the first period piece! the actual core plot is a story told by an old man about a romance he had in the 1940s, with the team playing out his flashbacks; good for Parker/Hardison, period costumes, FEELS) S4E5 - The Hot Potato Job (this is the one where Sophie impersonates Eliot to sell a bit) S4E6 - The Carnival Job (tfw you're just stealing something but the Russian Mob gets involved) S4E7 - The Grave Danger Job (Hardison gets buried alive, good for Parker/Hardison) S4E9 - The Cross My Heart Job (bottle episode, the team has minimal resources and time to save a child's life) S4E10 - The Queen's Gambit Job (Sterling's back, Nate cheats at a chess competition) S4E11 - The Experimental Job (Parker/Hardison development, Eliot development) S4E12 - The Office Job (mockumentary, very fun) S4E13 - The Girls' Night Out Job (Tara, Parker, and Sophie run a con together, Parker's friend from a previous episode makes an appearance) S4E14 - The Boys' Night Out Job (Nate, Eliot, and Hardison run a con together, Hurley from S1E10 is back, we get the Irish Mob again but this time they bring one of the absolute best meme conversations in the show with them) S4E15 - The Gold Job (Hardison takes lead on a con; he's not great at it) S4E16/17 - The Radio Job/The Last Dam Job (Nate's dad is back, the team gathers allies from past jobs, just a lot of fun and a few people die)
S5E1 - The (Very) Big Bird Job (team moves to Portland, fake-steal a giant wooden plane) S5E3 - The First Contact Job (faking alien contact is fun okay) S5E4 - The French Connection Job (Eliot backstory, Parker development) S5E5 - The Gimme a K Street Job (do you hate politicians? Watch this. Lots of Leverage hates politicians but this episode REALLY hates politicians) S5E6 - The D.B. Cooper Job (the second period piece! this one's in the 1970s and has Parker and Eliot playing the happy couple) S5E8 - The Broken Wing Job (Parker and a new friend run an entire con together because Parker's home with an injury while everyone else is running a con abroad) S5E10 - The Frame Up Job (Sophie and Nate fuck with Sterling) S5E11 - The Low Low Price Job (Eliot development) S5E12 - The White Rabbit Job (sometimes you just gotta drug and psychologically pressure a man until he breaks) S5E15 - The Long Goodbye Job (series finale! Very important! Sophie and Nate retire. Everyone fakes their death except Nate. Nate gives Sterling an entire tragic story about how the others died. Parker is put in charge of everything forever. It's great)

Doctor Who Rankings: Moffat's Era: Eleven Doctor
The ranking of the season is: Season 6, Season 5, Season 7.
Season 5
The Time of Angels / Flesh and Stone. Weeping Angels are my all time favorite villains, them and the Daleks. This story is the best story with the Angels, after Blink. I like when they talk through the dead soldier. It's scary and creepy and it hurts. To know that a young scared boy just died and an Angel is using him to talk with the Doctor. To scare the Doctor and the others. To gloat about its victory. I love how slow the Doctor is to figure out that all he statues are angles. How he speaks about the aliens on that planet having two heads until he finally figures it out. And it's too late cause they're too far into the maze and they can't go back. Amy having an Angel in her brain gives a nice spike of adrenaline here and there. We know she won't die, but not knowing how she'll be saved kept my attention and my worry high. Definitely the best episode of the season.
The Pandora Opens / The Big Bang I love this season finale. Probably my favorite of Smith's run. The way Rory's presence should have been a red flag, but the Doctor was just so relieved seeing him that he didn't really stop to think why he was there. River as Cleopatra is hilarious. All the enemies of the Doctor united against him is frankly terrifying. Again I knew everything was going to be okay in the end, but still terrifying. I love how they solved things in The Big Bang. Eleven zapping around his own timeline was fun to watch, River killing the Daleks was refreshing. I like how she isn't the typical DW companion. Companions are usually the merciful part of the Doctor, the ones that remind them how to be kind and human and compassionate. River is strong is vengeful and she is shown being merciless. I love her. The moment when Rory kills Amy is heartbreaking. They are the best romance in NewWho hands down. Amy bringing back the Doctor only remembering him is maybe a bit of an easy way out. But I've seen worse.
Victory of the Daleks. Have I mentioned how much I love the Daleks? Cause I do. Love them. So much. And see them serving tea to Winston Churchill was beyond hilarious. Seeing how everyone ignored Eleven's warnings cause winning the war was the only thing that matter and screw any potential danger. Using this powerful weapon was more important than listening to the bright person screaming danger in your face. I found the Dalek's robot really cute. How they used the memories of his first crush to keep him human, how ultimately the feelings are what make you human and not biology. And I love that they let him live. I imagine him happy with his love.
The Eleventh Hour As far are first episodes for a regeneration go this is probably the best. I honestly liked it more than The Christmas Invasion. I like how energetic Eleven was even if he just came out of a regeneration. I like how he is with little Amelia. And I think it's hilarious how easy it is for Amy to fool the Doctor into thinking she is a real cop. When I saw Number One from the Umbrella Academy being busted while he was looking porn I laughed. And I love how the Doctor actually called the aliens back and scared them away even if he could have simply let them go.
Vincent and the Doctor I admit the biggest reason I like this episode is because of Vincent Van Gogh. The story is pretty boring, incredibly sad when the creature dies scared, but ultimately boring and predictable. But Vincent is such a good character that the rules the whole episode. The end was heartbreaking. Both the moment with Vincent in the museum realising that he was going to be appreciated and Amy running in it thinking she would find more paintings only to discover that in the end he had killed himself anyway.
The Lodger It's probably one of the silliest episodes of the NewWho. The story is nothing special, maybe a bit boring. But I really like James Corden and Craig's dynamic with the Doctor is hilarious. And him and Sophie are so cute. It's like Boom Town in season one. Episodes that aren't special but I just like them so they have an higher spot than they probably deserve
The Hungry Earth / Cold Blood The story was interesting. Exploring how humanity would act toward their prisoner and everything. But I just lost interest in it by the end of the first episode, maybe before. The only thing I really remember about it is Rory's death and the Doctor's reaction, his desperate try to keep Rory alive in Amy's memory. Seeing Rory die and then be erased from time was just so hard and heartbreaking.
The Beast Below Not a bad episode, but just really forgettable for me. Seeing people chose to forget cause they want to keep living was interesting. I don't know what I would have done but in the end probably our will to survive is more important and more pronounced that our morality. In the end it's sad how humans just assumed that they had to torture the wale to make it help, when in truth it was offering and it would have helped anyway.
Amy's Choice This episode is so useless that while writing this list I completely forgot it existed, you have to thank Wikipedia if it made the list. It's not as bad as Vampire of Venice, but close enough.
Vampires of Venice Sorry but this episode goes together with Love and Monsters for me. Two episodes that should just be forgotten. I

Meet My Dolls
*This will be my pinned post now that I have 8 dolls to talk about, but may be updated as I shift story details.
Tumblr media
Lexie Sarah Gilbert is 11 years old, Jewish, and autistic. She just moved to a new town with her 2 dads and her 8-year-old sister Sophie. She made friends with Summer the week before school started and they became best friends. I'm working on her AG-style series, which includes themes of friendship, standing up for yourself, and mutual aid.
Tumblr media
Sophie Anne Gilbert is 8 years old and has ADHD. She's Lexie's little sister but much less worried about the move, since she has no trouble making friends. She loves making all kinds of art and is working on reading Harry Potter.
Tumblr media
Summer Louise Williams is 11 years old, Jewish, and has juvenile idiopathic arthritis. She lives with her mom and 20-year-old brother Tyler. She already had friends from school and synagogue, but she quickly became best friends with Lexie. She spends some weekends in her dad's house in the country, which she loves because he has 2 dogs and her mom's apartment doesn't allow pets. She's not shy at all and loves art and singing. Her series takes place a year after Lexie's when they're both 12 and being homeschooled. Her books include themes of intersecting identities, community in a minority culture, inaccessibility, and following your heart even if your dreams differ from your friends'.
Tumblr media
Olive Ivy Said is 13 years old, Muslim, the child of Libyan immigrants, and has Meniere's. They move into Lexie's neighborhood the spring after Lexie arrives. Even though they're 2 years older and in a different grade, they quickly become friends with Lexie and Summer. They live with their parents, grandparents, 15-year-old sister Alex, and 3-year-old sister Rosie. Their series takes place a year before they move, when they were 12, and themes include exploring gender identity, disability visibility, choosing meaningful traditions for oneself, and being a valuable contributor to a team even with one's limitations.
Tumblr media
Persephone November Ellison (thank you @futuristicsaladparadise for name ideas!) is a little older than the others, and despite appearances is not a real fairy. She's 15 years old, trans, and dyspraxic. She loves to paint swirls and leaves all over her body and wears fairy wings and her favorite dress whenever possible because it makes her feel light and free. She lives with her aunt, uncle, and twin teenage cousins. I haven't decided on the rest of her story yet because I just got her, but she will have a series too.
Tumblr media
Miko Fukuda is a 12-year-old mostly nonverbal autistic kid. She attends a K-8 alternative school and lives with her grandparents (a kindergarten teacher and an illustrator). More than anything she loves mushrooms, but she's also really into aliens and baking with her grandma. She has service dog named Inky Cap and two best friends at school.
Tumblr media
Rowena Brook Laurier is a 12-year-old who attends the same school as Miko but has a different circle of friends. She just started there after getting expelled from her last school. She began losing her sight at 7 and has been completely blind since 10. She and her 11-year-old brother, Alder, have lived with their 25-year-old sister, Danielle, since their parents died in a hurricane 4 years ago. She deals with a lot of anger, but is slowly learning that she does enjoy some parts of school and sometimes being soft is better.
Tumblr media
Indigo Ramirez (zie/zir) is 15 and identifies as gender queer, but mostly just wants to live zir life without thinking about gender. Zie never thought much about gender until recently, just thinking of zirself as a person. Zie likes skateboarding, horses, and is on the school track team. Zie is Latine with immigrant parents from Mexico and two older siblings.
Tumblr media
Anndi Abrams (they/them) is Indigo's childhood friend. They thought they were a feminine trans boy for a long time, but recently decided they are not any binary gender and enjoy a mix of presentations. They like to draw comics, go rollerblading, and write stories they hope to publish one day. They are Jewish and have a twin sister.
Tumblr media
Myka Miller (she/they) is a 15-year-old who recently realized they're genderfluid. She just made friends with Anndi and Indigo and often goes with them to the Queer Community Center. She is very artistic and loves painting her OCs, as well as camping and writing poems. She is mixed African American and Puyallup native American. They and their three siblings (one older, two younger) grew up on the Puyallup reservation, though they live in Tacoma now.

All Aprils are valid, but I like her better as an older sister/semi-mom figure to the boys. She's gotta be kind and caring, but honest and sassy, with a fiery strength of character that enables her to be resilient against all the change and danger that meeting the turtles brings to her life.
There's no TMNT found family without April. She's the cornerstone of it in the franchise! Iterations that handle April badly tend to suffer for it, in my opinion.
5. Coolest mutant/alien design in your opinion?
Sophie Campbell's Alopex design is probably my favourite 'cool-looking' mutant. I remember seeing images of Alopex when I was just starting to get back into TMNT after a super long time, and it was one of the things that pulled me back in.
As for aliens, I like what 2012 did with the Kraang - their organic bits anyway xD The MiB clones they all walked around in left something to be desired. But I liked the squishy fluorescent pink tentacle critters x3 I like it when aliens are very . . . well, alien xD

GOD IS TRANS
Tumblr media
All my friends keep asking me ‘Are you happy?’/ Happy as a girl can be! Are you happy?
In 2017, I wrote for The Singles Jukebox that SOPHIE’s single “It’s Okay to Cry” was proudly, explicitly, beautifully artificial, and that its hyperreal video in which the artist danced topless in a synthetic rainstorm felt something like paradise. I said that its unreality didn’t matter to my emotional response. I agree with most of what I wrote, but I take back the last part. The unreality was, in fact, central to how SOPHIE’s work makes me feel.
SOPHIE’s breakout single, “Bipp,” posits, “I can make you feel better — if you want to.” Accompanying that melody, low bass tones rev and ripple, while high sounds bubble and bounce; there’s a feeling of elastic grace in its movement, like each sound is a molecule colliding into others. The adjectives critics reached for when it was released always carried that element of physicality. Patric Fallon writing for Pitchfork called it “sticky” and “rubbery”; Boomkat’s product description of the vinyl single compared it to “sugar-glazed silicon”; Killian Fox for the Guardian described the song in 2016 as “an elasticated squelching noise with a helium vocal on top.”
These themes pop up again and again in the writing around SOPHIE’s work. It’s rubbery, it’s sticky-sweet, it’s elastic, it’s mechanical, it revs, it screeches, it squeals. SOPHIE’s contemporaries, like Arca or A.G. Cook, might create music that feels alien or dreamy; SOPHIE’s music always felt like it referenced the physical world, but not in a way that you would expect music to do. SOPHIE would reference not physical instruments, but physical objects and materials.
This specific quality was integral to the work, and it was intentional. SOPHIE sculpted these sounds out of waveforms, instead of relying on samples. In an archived 2014 interview with Elektronauts, the artist talks about sound design as an exercise in defamiliarization: “The language of electronic music shouldn’t still be referencing obsolete instruments like kick drum or clap. No one’s kicking or clapping. They don’t have to!… You can just take a bassline made out of elastic and try it in metal.” In a video interview in 2018 with the German outlet Arte Tracks, the artist discusses making “sounds which cartoonize and exaggerate naturally occurring or organic sounds and phenomena, and materials that don’t exist at the moment.” One of the common adjectives used to describe SOPHIE’s work is “sculptural,” which carries the risk of casting the music as purely abstract; but it also demonstrates that SOPHIE’s sound art was also visual and tactile, while SOPHIE’s physical and visual work was purely conceived as a supplement to and a vehicle for the songs. In that same Arte Tracks interview, SOPHIE discusses the release of “It’s Okay to Cry” and the choice to show SOPHIE’s face and body for the first time in its video. Responding to the framing that this reveal was “brave,” the artist says that the intention wasn’t to create media attention by coming out, but to “use my body more as a material, as something I could express through and not fight against.”
SOPHIE married that philosophical framework to an artistic practice that prioritized movement and pleasure. The currents of kink and sexuality were central to the work — the 2014 single “Hard” opens with the lines “latex gloves, smack so hard/ PVC, I get so hard,” and in the Elektronauts interview the artist talks about synthesizing sounds for “latex, balloons, bubbles, metal, plastic, elastic,” physical materials that share a modern provenance and a fetishistic quality. On “Ponyboy,” from the artist’s 2018 studio album Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides, distorted vocals bellow “Spit on my face/ Put the pony in his place.” But SOPHIE didn’t invoke sex as an end unto itself; instead, sex was an experience that could defamiliarize the omnipresent language of gender. The bridge of “Ponyboy” goes “he is just a pony/ she is just a pony/ they is just a pony/ pony, pony boy.” “Pony Whip,” from the 2019 remix album of Oil, repeats the teasing line “so I treat him like a boy/ so I treat him like a boy/ so I treat him like a pony boy” until the meaning of the phrase bleeds out entirely. The experience of physical pleasure in SOPHIE’s work has a psychedelic dimension, like activating the body allows us to move beyond the definitions that are assigned to it; like the body itself is something we continually create.
This clearly puts SOPHIE’s work in the lineage of pop and disco, genres which use physical pleasure as a means for spiritual transcendence. In a 2017 Teen Vogue interview, SOPHIE says, “A lot of the stuff I’ve done takes the attitude of disco but tries to bring the sound world forward… I’m trying to imagine what music that’s positive, liberating, weird, dark, and real could be in the present day.” In a 2015 Rolling Stone interview with A.G. Cook, SOPHIE says, “I think all pop music should be about who can make the loudest, brightest thing. That, to me, is an interesting challenge, musically and artistically. And I think it’s a very valid challenge — just as valid as who can be the most raw emotionally. I don’t know why that is prioritized by a lot of people as something more valuable.”
Disco and pop music — electronic music in general — has long been negatively associated with artificiality, as if artificiality is in and of itself less sincere or authentic. SOPHIE’s music is proudly, directly, purposefully artificial; it is also proudly, directly, purposefully emotive. In SOPHIE’s hands, synthesized sensations and materials became the building blocks of the best dance music you ever heard. The textures of real life — car engines, rubber tires, plastic containers, metal bars — are mirrored back at us in strange, sexy new shapes.
I say that SOPHIE’s music is trans, and this is what I mean. Jessica Dunn Rovinelli’s beautiful piece on SOPHIE’s work in the Guardian explains that “SOPHIE molded raw sound to make hyperreal versions of recognizable forms…. Transgender people in particular exist through self-processing: we make a body that we can live in and a world where that body can feel safe.” Sasha Geffen tweeted that “SOPHIE’s music isn’t just ‘about’ transness, its idiom is inherently trans. It traces the process of surfacing interiority.” Transitioning is a kind of inside-out alchemy — I feel a certain way, I learn to understand it, I begin to orient my life in a way that allows me to express it, other people begin to treat me differently. From the interior work comes the exterior effects; from reorientation, new pleasure and new life. Even if the change is synthetic, in the sense that I have to make it myself with chemical supplements or medical treatments or changes in clothing or requests to change the way I’m referred to, it doesn’t mean that its effects reverberate any less.
One of my favorite SOPHIE songs goes “I don’t need anyone to be who I want to be.” You can read this as a statement of satisfied self-sufficiency, like “I can be who I want to be all by myself,” but I prefer to read it like a prognosis: “I don’t need anyone else to demonstrate how to I want to exist.” To create your own future means leaving behind those who want to dictate that future, who demand control over the terms on which you live. In SOPHIE’s alchemical work, familiar sounds become new shapes, so that old structures — the pop song, the chorus, the melody, sound itself — become vehicles for innovation. SOPHIE made that process of innovation sound like the sexiest, most joyful thing in the whole world, so much so that you wonder why anyone would settle for the old and familiar.

My Dean Blunt Rotation aka High Fidelity Left A Bad Taste in My Mouth
Tumblr media
For the past 2 to 3 months, my listening habits were teetering to an end; mostly via burnout by spontaneously listening to local artists daily and less likely of a musical discovery drought, whereas my interests of a certain artist or genre hasn't found its, sort of, "eureka", moment per se. I've been feeling less enthusiastic over the things i listen to since my friends have gradually lost their flare when it comes to discovering/exploring untapped parts of the music realm. Thus, in return, my enthusiasm not being reciprocated. It leaves an empty feeling from someone who has been yearning social interaction, may it be media being latched on the topic - it's a feeling that's been guilt-tripping me ever since I was stranded in the other end of the metro. I feel closed off, exposed to the crippling loneliness the lockdown has punished us: a defacto solitary confinement in a national level. Our act of staying online is also an act of staying alive outside.
To be fair though, it's a valid move to not boomerang compliments/gripes over an art you haven't consumed due to someone's autonomy. Your able body being to consume the art you wish to finish with free time is a luxury in of itself. The art is then failed to serve its purpose to reach its goal: You have squiggly lines heading straight to oblivion rather than swirling in the earlobes of a wandering cyber nomad. We, eventually, need to find something that could help us exit, rather than escape, from capital. We, in return, do not shut ourselves from the outside. Instead, we then tend to avoid the stress of protocols and outdoor fascism; Not avoid the indoor liberalism that is eating us alive and online. It's a capital punishment we never knew we signed up for ever since the onslaught of the virus and the state. Art for art's sake is nonexistent now, always has been, it seizes to ever since we went inside. Feeding off of a holographic meatloaf coming from a glowing screen. We have a real-life Karen acting as a nightlight in our rooms.
The COVID lockdown made us listen to music — both for better, for worse. For one, it made us pass most days. You could say the same for any sort of media: film, mixed media art, or whatever pre-Covid activity that sprung up during our time in isolation. For music, however, there was an uptick of new listeners that made others Wheel-of-Fortune the fuck out of their music discoveries in sites like RateYourMusic, Bandcamp, or even Sophie's Floorboard. We've continued to expand and became more open change of opinions and be less of a jackass towards someone else's opinions. On second thought, our opinions have been catalogued, leaving more notes than actual footprints of our previous listens. Our new discoveries made new bands and re-emerging bands, bands who faded to obscurity, crawl back in the surface with newfound interest from younger listeners (ie Panchiko, Jai Paul, and Dean Blunt) and this glowing, previously unseen and unexpected overwhelming support from fans of departed artists (ie SOPHIE, MF DOOM)
For the other, we've hogged gratuitous amounts of media, resulting into losing our primary direction as to how we want to consume our media based on the preconceived notions of what we want in our art. There is goodness in becoming directionless when you think about it, but there comes a cost to our identity as music listeners. Instead, we end up widening our tangents, falling in endless rabbit holes, having zero chances to emerge from the surface. In fact, i refuse to call it a "rabbit hole" instead i'd rather call it a "pipeline" of sorts — transitioning casual music fans into a full on, different, unique versions of themselves that would define them when laws and protocols have eased in the outside world. Our act of staying online has either made most of us break our character or enliven our past selves. The music pipeline is now more apparent, stretching the norms of what was once alienated by a silent majority, but now accepted as an acceptable form of expression. The more music we are exposed to has made casual listeners stranged out or react in ways that our personality have betrayed us or deemed not as acceptable to them. Still, not changing anything that was prominent pre-pandemic. Liberal cop behavior is stronger, now more dangerous than it ever was once perceived by the outside world.
HIGH FIDELITY? NO, THANK YOU.
Tumblr media
Imagine a situation inside of a record, pre-pandemic of course, where you do not feel like lifting a record out from the shelf, instead, you window shop just for the sake of windowshopping. Capital and media made us think that going to record shops is a semi-productive activity. The age of discovery has died ever since High Fidelity romanticized and normalized the incelage of horny record diggers. Does this movie age well, yeah sure it does, for old 90s nerds at least. But did it translate well over in the past 20 or more years of events and tragedies that unfolded in pre-9/11 America? No it didn't. It was an age of free expression, only liberals would dream of whenever they take a sip of Guinness beer in their favorite dive bar.
Mind you, over a couple of months ago, it was my only chance in seeing why this movie was the talk of the town back when it was released. There's music, yeah, and attractive leading leadies, yeah, it has everything a 90s kid would love to salivate and drop their gonads over while they watch this movie. I obviously did not live to see the movie on opening day but i could imagine the scent that came out of that movie theater with attendees donning windbreakers and The Who shirts with popcorn dressing stains on their plastic cups. If there was a Filipino counterpart to this movie, i'd bet corporate champions Eraserheads and Rivermaya would soundtrack their music over and have either Tado or have Boy 2 Quizon, but i sense it to age like milk more than it could age like fine wine due to the senseless jokes one can execute in a Cubao or Cartimar record store.
John Cusack is obviously the incel in question here: a damaged, vengeful ex who constantly fails to live his partner's expectations and weaponizes his personality over the situations that has nothing to do with his interests. I spent the entire time being absolutely disgusted over the spineless responses of John Cusack's leading character. The movie then treads on flashbacks with John Cusack's failed relationships and what he could do to move on from each and one of them. If i could stand a SONA for 3 hours then I can't stand John Cusack being the dull entry point to incel, making more reasons why you should hate record store clerks who don't give an iota of shits to someone's inviting rapport. High Fidelity is opium for massive music circle jerks who can't take a single breathe of fresh air or a single quota of touching grass. There's more targeting weak and inferior guys and hot women who dump dumb overconfident dudebros more than the actual "music recs" in the entire movie. The more I think about this movie, the more I realize how our personality is in line towards Dick, the record store being unmercifully dunked on by the movie's two leading characters. He's an angel in the world of cynical bastards, witnessing both demons pitchforking record store customers in the ass while they're purchasing the latest Sonic Youth album.
youtube
youtube
I believe that Jack Black, the dark horse of High Fidelity, has a pleasing personality more than an irritating demeanor due to this behavior in the record store. In fact, outside of the record store, Jack Black doesn't seem to take the business is your pleasure act pretty seriously. Unlike John Cusack's character he brought his obsession over involving a record in an important memory/point of his life. There is so much stuff that has happened outside of the record store, so much for Rolling Stone and NME being the bible of music at the time, endlessly christening and shilling artists that believe to become the second coming of the Beatles. The music references here however are treated as fluff than it is a mechanism that would drive the senseless plot forward. If anything, there are events pointed out in the event that doesn't have anything to do with the life of the characters.
If anything, this movie did a great job at capturing the feeling of music bros being dumped on the wayside by a mature set of characters and how their current conditions aren't perfumed by the studios' liking of having to Cinderella story the shit out of a bunch of normal record store owners. The reality is in the reaction of one's social capital being invaded and we're here to witness how those reactions panned out in 2021. This is a villainous depiction of music nerds being the salt of the earth, the bane of all media discussion, still reflective of the insufferable salt of cyberspace found in music forums like 4chan and RYM. High Fidelity is a pipeline of 90s musicology, a dreaded fever dream of an owner waiting for the decade to end, trends ossifying and re-emerged by the hands of nostalgia-savvy individuals. It was, at its time, every music-movie nerd's excuse equivalent of Scott Pilgrim VS. The World. There are memories worth remembering and cherishing, and this movie isn't one of them.
DEAN BLUNT, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK
youtube
In the past two weeks I've been fancying myself into sitting down and listening to different projects from the ever elusive, UK-based sound artist Dean Blunt. The first time i chanced upon his music wasn't too long ago - albeit a recent one in the time of COVID - was when I randomly stumbled upon his records at a Spotify recommendations section under John Maus (yeah lol i know the implications whenever his name is mentioned) - but then i was enamored by his online presence so quickly I put everything down and dedicated an hour or two researching about this man's music.
Other than the fact that his album "The Redeemer" wasn't the best record to start off in journeying through his discography: ending up disgusted and borderline bored even and I was more likely to lambast this record's aimless, pretentious art-pop inflections. By the end of the day, it was a preference long solidified by his undying fanbase. According to his hardcore fans, the music isn't really music, evaluating it as a free form of sound art, rather than sticking to a structured and conventional cues; the genre is nullified by most analysts of the arts. The growing interest of the general public towards Dean Blunt's pranks and antics have long appealed to my tastes as a chaotic neutral individual. Pranks that are well executed to piss off UK gallery connoisseurs and entertain ironic attendees who'd shit on the art piece rather than participate in it.
More of the resources I've found about Dean Blunt online: numerous aliases and collaborations that lasted around almost 2 decades. The most notable of all them, at least for my money, are either Hype Williams, a duo consisting of Dean and frequent collaborator Inga Copeland, and Babyfather, an art performance parodizing the pirate radio culture in the UK. I have not delved enough in Blunt's body of work to evaluate everything and what i could synthesize from it. For now, I enjoyed it as a form of entertainment. Well, color me impressed because Dean Blunt isn't clowning around, he, in fact, makes blissful and transcendental music from left to right.
youtube
youtube
Dean Blunt was the only few artists that made me want to binge on their discography. His movements in his music has attracted this pesky listener who thinks that being mysterious is a plus. I mean, look at me who thinks The Paul Institute, Panchiko, and Burial are the greatest artists that have walked the face of the earth.
The most I've enjoyed from Dean Blunt's discography are his mixtapes and collaborations: preferably his Soul Fire and ZUSHI, both of which were packaged as B-sides or supplemental releases rather than major releases such as the Babyfather project or the Black Metal releases. His knack for blurring the lines between genres still fascinate me as of this writing, and it continues to amaze me how he doesn't seize to compromise his art, he's here to prove a point and it sells quite well despite the lack of direction in his music. Blunt's music has more aggressive and hazy texture than the hollow, wide, soulless structure of art-pop/hypnagogic pop released today. He creates terrains from the rubble of his country's current shortcomings. The music overlaps the actual intentions with abstract concepts, becoming deconstructed down the line. In Babyfather, noise music coincides with Blunt's amateurish rapping. In Black Metal, Blunt isolates himself along with the assisted skeletal guitar playing. Both projects throwing all tropes in a vaccum alongside Blunt, who he himself would sought to become a personification of a musical void.

Dean Blunt is an entity that wishes to become one person, but no, this isn't a figure in a specific art form; this isn't Banksy, this isn't Bob Ong, this is made by one person, clearly it is if you listen closely, and it's been entrancing me ever since his presence was felt on the horizons of the internet. Dean Blunt, what the actual fuck.

based on that fix-it post. The Leverage Crew as the crossover fandom they would fix
Okay sooooo I actually read a LOT of those crossover fics so I’m going to be doing this one based on my favorite fics for each character
Thus
Eliot - Supernatural. I’ve read quite a few fics where he’s crossed paths with the Winchesters in the past and more or less adopted a “I ain’t seen nothin’“ attitude towards anything vaguely Weird, until Leverage gets hired for a case and it turns out that there’s Weirdness afoot, and he either calls them or realizes they’re already involved from another angle. He’s also a popular slashship with Dean, and one of the few that I think actually works? Although it definitely falls under the, “You think the “opposites attract” trope is highly overrated” umbrella, lol. I think that he works as a good foil for the boys because he’s naturally inclined to be more skeptical. The way the crew interacts would also set a good example for them to work out their shit.
Parker - Doctor Who. Parker as a Companion is hysterical, alright. I especially love reading fics where she’s got more of a Clara “gets picked up when the Doctor gets bored/lonely” backstory than a “lives on the TARDIS fulltime” one. Plus, if any of the members of the crew were secretly friends with a nigh-immortal alien and didn’t think to tell anyone, it’d be Parker. Cue the Doctor coming to pick her up and landing in the middle of Leverage headquarters. They’re all baffled. Something horrible has happened and Parker gives everyone puppydog eyes until they agree to help. Obviously because it’s what they’re good at, whatever Parker and crew do also ends up with the side benefit of saving someone the Doctor would’ve otherwise lost.
Hardison - DC Comics. Specifically, I love Hardison getting into a hack-war OR being mysteriously contacted by Oracle. The sheer amount of fanboying that would happen, okay. Also, bonus points if the reason for the hack-war or contact is because Leverage got hired to investigate something related to Wayne Enterprises, only to realize that the client is trying to set WE and Bruce Wayne up for a fall. Bonus bonus points if it turns out that the client is the Riddler or some other Batman baddie (not the Joker), and that the person the crew spoke to is an actor or a goon. I’d go wit the tried and true “literally just the villain in a not-at-all-convincing-disguise” trope, but let’s face it, the crew would see right through that. Also, I still maintain Eliot is the one to realize Bruce is Batman. Leverage crew manages to set something up that helps make a proper dent in the ridiculousness that is the Gotham crime scene.
Sophie - White Collar. Honestly White Collar/Leverage crossovers are a dime a dozen. But I like the idea of Sophie and Neal being old frenemies since they’re interested in the same sorts of loot and just go at it from wildly different angles. Plus, she has a lot of insight when she puts her mind to it, and I think she’s the one who’s most likely to be able to win Peter over. Eliot’s too harsh, Nate’s too cynical, Parker’s too weird, Hardison’s too nerdy. Sophie, on the other hand, would be able to win Elizabeth over, and that plus her history with Neal and Mozzie would make Peter begrudgingly trust her. From there, I think she could do a lot to set the whole crew on the right path.
Nate - NCIS. idk, I just like the idea of Nate and Gibbs as a dynamic duo. Obviously this starts because there’s a murder, and NCIS is investigating. Leverage gets hired by someone related to the victim because they don’t trust the military, because they have a history and/or reason to believe that the military is somehow responsible for the murder. There’s a lot of near-misses where Gibbs starts getting a little too close to the investigation. Eventually though, they get caught. Not by Gibbs, not at first. I’m thinking Tony, who is more likely to let something slide if he thinks it’ll help. By the time Gibbs realizes what’s going on, they’ve proven themselves to be The Good Guys, and Gibbs has to relent and let them do their thing (he obviously still knocks Tony upside the head, though). Nate, having been more or less in Gibbs’ shoes, the good person inside a corrupt system, will be a massive help in the general fuckery of a conspiracy that goes on with all these damn crime dramas. In this case, they both help each other get out of their own heads. Nate also learns a healthier coping mechanism than drowning in alcohol. Also, Hardison + Parker + Abby = amazing.

Now that the trailer for ‘The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants In Space’ has been released, I decided to do what I do best by taking screencaps of my favorite parts, or scenes of interests, and posting my thoughts on them.
Gooch is an absolute delight and I’m glad to see him after so long.
I’m also loving the interactions between the M.I.S.F.A.R.T.S. and I expect to see great things from them throughout this season. Though I’m kind of surprised that Dressy isn’t in the circle with them. She may not be there due to plot reasons or, assuming that the kids are singing together, she could be on the side preparing to perform a solo in the song.
@jackie-sugarskull already made posts about how great the new space woman is and I completely agree with her! I love her design and I’m intrigued to learn more about her. Plus any adult (minus Melvinborg) that puts Krupp in his place is more than okay in my book! Also, given how she was with the kids before launching, I’m guessing she was assigned by the P.O.O.P.S.I.E. program to watch over Jerome Horwitz throughout their space field trip.
I also like this guy too! He’s quite handsome and he has the aura of a hero. And while he does look super cool, the different art style he’s drawn in implies that someone is telling the boys/kids via imagine spot about this guy and is portraying him as a super cool action hero. I can only hope that he’ll live up to the stories told about him when he’s introduced in real time. Either that or he’s a fictional character from a TV show that the kids are referencing.
Judging by how Jerome Horwitz is facing off against the armada of ships, along with having a variety of different space ships alongside the school, I’m getting the feeling that this will be set in the season finale. The armada would most likely be the main antagonists of the series; no doubt galactic tyrants who want to impose their iron fist on the universe. And throughout the season, the kids managed to earn the respect of the alien races that they came across and each one have decided to help the school to face off the tyrants. Thus explaining the different ship designs.
When I saw that toilet drone, my mind instantly went towards the Turbo Toilet and his Talking Toilet army. I know it’s far from possible but it would be nice if either TT or his TT army were referenced through their cousin from beyond the stars.
Initially, I was under the impression that the boys traveled to an alien world where everything is just like George and Harold’s universe only with shark people. The shark on the left has George’s tie and collared shirt while the shark on the right has shorts that are the same shade of blue as Harold’s. But then @infini-tree pointed out that Melvin looked like he was blue. So that got me thinking. What if Shark!George and Shark!Harold weren’t initially sharks? What if the Tethered of this world were ordinary kids but suddenly transformed into shark monsters because of a mysterious virus and they’re blaming the protagonists for spreading it? It would also explain why their outfits are shredded and the look of anger on their faces.
And here we have George and Harold witnessing the creation/destruction of everything. I instantly caught on to the stranger right beside them and I couldn’t help but think of Professor Poopypants. Especially since he was tied with the Big Bang from Book 10. But given how different the Red Stranger’s hairstyle looks compared to Pippy, I think it’s sad to say that it isn’t him.
It looks like someone got bored and decided to doodle on one of their friends again. Though that does bring to question why Other Sophie is in a cryogenic sleep chamber in the first place. Did something happen to her while she was on a mission? I also noticed that they’re in the gym so maybe they’re practicing how to use those chambers for long-term travel. And by the looks of it, Other Sophie isn’t the only one who’s taking a power nap.
Not gonna lie, I’m REALLY not looking forward to visiting a world where Melvin reigns supreme. We already lived through that in season 2 so I preferred it if we didn’t go to a place that would encourage the nerd’s already inflated ego. Also I’m lowkey hoping that Dressy’s line about “so many plot twists” actually makes an impact to the series. I would appreciate it if some events or person made it so that nothing was the same anymore. Like how Melvinborg took over the school in season 1 or how George and Harold were separated at the end of season 2. Something big and game changing would be appreciated. And considering that we’re dealing with aliens and game changing twists, it would be perfect and convenient for a certain cafeteria lady with “two blue eyes” could make an appearance. Hint hint.
And those were my thoughts for each of these scenes featured on the main trailer. Thank you for reading them. If you like or dislike anything I’ve written, or have anything to say on the points here, you’re more than welcome to reblog this with your comments!
Also, if you’d like to read my personal unpopular opinion on this season, feel free to check out the Read More below.
I really don’t like the idea of the CU cast going to space.
As cool as the concept is along with the rich potential behind it, I just don’t think going to space works well for the story of Captain Underpants. The themes and storylines for the books always centered around school life and the ongoing conflicts between children and adults. Even when the boys fought bizarre monsters or traveled through time, it never lost focus on the school themes or how they were just ordinary kids who just wanted to make comics. And having the cartoon go into space loses focus of those themes and is making it into something else. Something that defies what defined Captain Underpants and made it so special in the first place.
Plus, having the story set in space shouldn’t have happened yet. Everyone and their mothers know that when a cast of characters go into space, it’s usually because it’s their last season/story to tell and they want to go out with a bang. And by the looks of things, TETOCU have more seasons or specials to work with. So what can possibly top the space theme once they return? Alternate Universes? A time skip that focuses on George and Harold as teenagers? A brutal deconstruction of their wacky adventures? Granted those ideas sound really cool but I’m not sure that the series would be willing to try this or would go for something less than stellar.
I know I’ll probably eat my words after watching the show but I can’t help feeling disappointed with this route they’re taking. I just hope that  everything is written well and that it’ll be a season that everyone can enjoy.
...
...
...
Also I would appreciate it if they could stop with the padding jokes!

Authors note: I thought I would give you all a sweet imagine since I hurt you all yesterday with my Tyler one. Also thanks for the positive feed back on that by the way. Enjoy.
It was a normal day I suppose. The day my soul mark first appeared that is. Well as normal as waking up with a mural painted on your skin could be. I was really hoping I would beat my soulmate to getting the soul mark. But now I have a tree surrounded by some other brightly colored things on my arm, until I meet them.
“Holy cow it’s huge!!”
“I know Jenna.” I laughed looking down onto my arm. “Someone’s pretty bold.”
“Crap we’re gonna be late for school.” Jenna said looking at her phone.
“I gotta grab my bag I’ll meet you outside.” She nodded as I ran upstairs. I grabbed my bookbag, hoodie, and skateboard before rushing outside.
“Ya ready?” Pulling down my jacket I could see Jenna already stationed on her bike. Quietly I nodded, speeding off on my board.
----
“D’ya hear there’s a new student?” I nodded in reply.
“Yes, Cole you’ve mentioned it.” She ducked her head. I shoved her playfully. “I’m only kidding... I’ll see you after Calc.” She nodded running off to her class.
“Alright everyone we have a new student today, Josh? why don’t you introduce yourself.”
The boy, Josh, moved to the front of the room. “Uh hey I’m Josh. I just moved here. I really like music and movies...” From the back of the room a kid could be heard asking if he had gotten his soul mark yet. “Uh yeah I actually just got it the other day.”
He rolled up his hoodie sleeve a bit revealing what appeared to be the roots of a tree. I started to tune out the class as he went on about it. It wasn’t until someone was sitting next to me asking for a pencil that I came back to reality.
“Huh?”
“Oh uh I was asking if I could borrow a pencil.” Josh muttered tugging at his sleeve.
“Yeah sure.” I dug around in my bag until I pulled out one that was decent enough to give to the attractive new kid. “Here.” I passed him the pencil but it somehow ended up on the floor. We both reached down to get it, running into each other a bit.
“Thanks.” He turned back to the board and I turned back to my drawing.
----
I sat down at lunch only to notice something was off. Maybe the seats were wrong? slowly I looked at who everyone was sat by. Jenna next to Tyler, Cody next to Max, and Cole next to... Josh.
“Hey Y/N! Have you met Josh yet?” Tyler perked, letting go of Jenna’s hand.
“Uh yeah we have first period together.” Josh smiled. I nodded in agreement with him and sat down on the empty side of the table. “Sorry if I took your seat...”
“Huh? No you’re fine I sit here everyday.” I smiled while gesturing to the plastic seat I was in.
“Hey I hate to be a bother but can we steal Jenna, Cody, and Max for a second?” A random group of girls who I’m pretty sure were in some club asked.
The girls got up, Tyler chose to go get more food, and Cole decided to go with him. Josh took the opportunity to swap seats so he was next to me.
“So have you gotten your soul mark yet?”
“Yep.” I said taking another bite of my sandwich.
“What is it? If you don’t mind me asking.”
“Some weird design. I mean Tyler and Jenna’s was weird but my person chose this huge, colorful design and it makes it hard to match outfits.” I felt bad trashing the mark my soulmate chose but it didn’t fit me. “I mean don’t get me wrong, it looks amazing, but it’s just not my style.”
“Yeah I understand I can’t imagine what my soulmate thought when they first saw ours.”
“Right about that, I kinda dazed off when you showed everybody so I have no clue what yours looks like...” I admitted, slightly embarrassed.
“Oh it’s cool. It’s just trees and space and stuff.” He said rolling up his sleeve to show me. Except nothing was there. “Oh no. If my soul mark isn’t there that means I touched my soulmate. But when... I should have felt something...”
“Hey Josh it’s fine.” I placed my hand on his shoulder. “It was there this morning in first period, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find them.”
Suddenly the bell rang and it was time for me to get to History.
----
Bored out of my mind from my last class and since we were doing nothing else in Theater I decided to finish my drawing from earlier. It was of my soul mark. I found that drawing something that’s gonna be on me for a while can help me with realism.
“I-I thought you said you didn’t see my soul mark...” Josh was behind me, eyes glued to my drawing.
“What? That’s my soul mark see?” I pulled my arm out of my sleeve to show Josh, but nothing was there. “Holy shit. You’re my-”
“-Soulmate.” Josh finished. Quickly I pulled him into a hug. Something went off inside me and I couldn’t find the words to describe it. “There’s the feeling everyone talks about.” Josh chuckled after we let go.
“Wait till Jen and Ty here about this.”
----
After graduating Tyler and Josh went on tour. Jenna and I had to come up with new ways of entertaining ourselves since the last few years we always had the boys around.
One way of keeping ourselves busy was guessing which of the boys would call first in the day, who would say they were homesick first, and most importantly, who would get their soul mark tattooed onto their body first.
I woke up to a phone call at two in the morning. Thinking it was some random caller I reached out to ignore it until I saw the picture that was flashing on screen. Josh.
“Hey Bubs.” I could hear him laugh at the nickname.
“Hi Y/N/N.”
“Is there any particular reason you’re calling me at 2am?”
“Wait. It’s 2am there? I’m sorry I didn’t realize it was so late.”
I sighed. “It’s fine Josh.”
“Anyways, I was calling to see if you would be fine with me getting a tattoo?”
“Josh it’s your body, I don’t get to call the shots.”
“Okay. Well you sound tired so I’ll let you sleep.”
“Okay. I love you Bubs.”
“I love you too Y/N/N.” And with that he hung up.
----
Tour had finally ended and I was beyond excited to see Josh. Tyler as well... but mainly Josh. I was bouncing in my seat the whole drive to the airport.
“Okay, I’m excited to see the boys as well but you need to calm down a it Y/N/N.” Jenna laughed.
“Sorry, I just can’t wait... I just wanna hug Josh and cuddle for like three days.”
Jenna laughed again, “I’m sure he’ll want to do the same.”
From where we were standing I could see someone with bright blue hair and a colorful arm sleeve carrying a few suitcases. Something inside me clicked. “Josh!” He looked up at the sound of his name, quickly rushing over to me.
Josh wrapped his arms around me pulling me closely to him. “Ugh I missed you so much.” He sighed into my hair.
“Yeah I missed you too, but we gotta talk about this.” As we pulled away I frantically gestured to him. He looked a lot different from the last time I saw him. He had grown in height a bit and had gained a few muscles, not to mention his hair or tattoos.
“Oh right.” He let out a dry laugh, rubbing the back of this neck. “The hair I thought looked cool and as for the sleeve, I thought I should get my soul mark on me.”
I smiled up at him, pecking him on the cheek. “Okay Goober, we have a lot of cuddling to catch up on so I would like to be home as soon as possible.”
With that Josh grabbed my hand and we walked out of the airport.
