Hog Nosed Skunks
The Mephitidae family of skunks and badgers includes four species in the Conepatus genus known as hog-nosed skunks: Molina's hog-nosed skunks, Humboldt's hog-nosed skunks, North American hog-nosed skunks, and Striped hog-nosed skunks. The genus' common name comes from these skunks' distinctive blunt noses, which resembles a pig's snout. All hog-nosed skunks live in the Americas. The North American species ranges farther north than any other member of the genus, living in Mexico and the United States as far north as Colorado. The other species reside in Central and South America.
Hog-nosed skunks grow to about 2 feet long on average, and weigh between 5 and 10 pounds. In addition to their distinctive noses, skunks in this genus have coarser fur than skunk species. The fur is mostly black, with white stripes that differ in pattern depending on the species. Humboldt's hog-nosed skunks have one or two white stripes down their sides. The same two white stripes are present for Molina's hog-nosed skunks, but their tails are almost completely white. Striped and North American hog-nosed skunks have a single white stripe running down their backs, but striped skunks' single stripe splits into two, with their tails covered with short black and white hairs.
Hog-nosed skunks generally prefer open grasslands, scrublands and forests. Hog-nosed skunks eat primarily insects and small mammals, particularly rodents. For this reason, farmers find their presence beneficial as they prey on pests that destroy crops. Some have a more specialized diet -- striped hog-nosed skunks prefer to hunt and eat termites, while Molina's skunks favor spiders and beetles. These skunks are solitary, nocturnal creatures, foraging at night and returning to dens or burrows during the day.

So I bought a striped skunk skull that was mislabeled as a hog nose skunk in the listing (which I didn't mind since I didn't have a striped skunk skull). Well then go back to browsing through skunk skulls again and run across a hog nose skunk that was mislabeled as a striped skunk 🤷‍♀️

unique warrior names post
All listed names are either the names of common North American rodents, birds, trees, fish, or plants. They may also simply be something that I truly believe is within the knowledge of a warrior cat. I see no reason why they can’t name a kit Topaz but can count and recognize colors. Of course, names are always up to preference and opinion. Hopefully at least a few can get some use of this!
The descriptions for each name are merely recommendations.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that these names work best for roleplays or canons where queens wait a few days or until a kit opens their eyes before naming them.
and final note, some names may already be in the official names list but were ones I felt simply aren’t used enough.
feel free to use, but if reposted please credit my tumblr :)

how about skunks? who might fit a skunk, and how would you rate different kinds of skunk?
oh ho skunks are one of my favorite forms, thanks for letting me ramble about this!
i’ll start with some pretty fundamental skunk traits imo! in general skunk people are going to be independent. even the most social of skunks (the striped skunk) aren’t the type to seek new people out or go looking for social situations; they more so just accept it when it comes to them. this isn’t to say that skunk people are anxious or shy — the opposite in fact, a skunk person is going to be assertive and typically a confident person, unafraid to be honest and assert their boundaries. they aren’t provocative people and i don’t particularly see a skunk soul instigating something... unless they’re simply being outspoken about their opinions and someone takes offense to that, as they don’t see much need to temper their true feelings. these guys are independently curious and adventurous, they’re loose-bonding and noncommittal, not bothered by change and happy to drop something and move onto the next project if it isn’t work. they definitely get indulgent about their interests... but again, this isn’t something that’s typically shared with others, as they don’t have a strong need for that emotional dependence and group mentality.
going into breeds of skunks! let me know if one catches you eye, i can expand on things too!
striped skunkthis is a hardy individual! like i said before, striped skunks are the most social, but even this is going to manifest in someone who’s socially tolerant and has a few friends kicking around, probably the type who don’t mind the striped skunk’s independence and infrequent communication — though I do get classic ExTP energy from these guys, as they tend to be possessive over their close relationships and their “person”, and do have jealous tendencies despite not being clingy or dependent people. definitely a defining trait of striped skunks is how ambitious and competitive they are. they're stubborn and long-fused, but they don’t like being bothered or needled... their eye is definitely on their goals and they can be risk-taking to get there — though turn tail and find a different path if things get stressful or tough.
spotted skunkoh spotted skunks, my favorite! they’re absolutely more loose-bonding and independent than the striped skunk, though again aren’t terribly bothered by socialization, they just know they can do things better on their own. spotted skunk individuals have an excitability and sense of adventure that propels them, contrary to a striped skunk’s more even temper and determination. these guys are classically curious and open-minded people, but usually are more careful about going into risky situations and less bold than the striped skunk. you’re not going to find a patient person with a spotted skunk daemon: they need stimulation and new situations, and if they’re not being fulfilled, they’re going to seek it out. like all skunks, they’re self-confident but with a splash of dramatics owing to their more emotional demeanor.
hooded skunkthe hooded skunk is a private creature but such an interesting animal — they’ve been observed breaking eggs by throwing them between their legs to crack them! i imagine a hooded skunk would be an intensely personal being, tolerant of social situations but not inclined to them. not quite the risk-taker that is the striped skunk and is likely less bold to boot, but is more tolerant and willing to diversify than its goal-oriented relatives. these individuals, while hardy and defensive, are more willing to make things work and are less fickle. i’d characterize them as “work smarter not harder” types of people... but they’re no less touchy than other skunks, and will snap if someone encroaches on their boundaries.
hog-nosed skunkfinally the hog-nosed! here you’ve got an intensely private and independent person, someone who’s withdrawn and secretive and not terribly interested in getting to know others. hog-nosed skunks truly walk their own path: they’re defensive people who will stand up for their opinions and keep others at arm’s length. regarding their internal life, they’re classically curious and hardy people. maintaining this reputation is essential to them and they’re big on achieving. they’ve got a definite willingness to be flexible and innovative. steady workers but can be prone to corner cutting if it benefits them.
hope this helps!!
