The fact that BOTH, Nikolai and Zoya POV in power; they love "power," power is salvation for them but they truly value it, they didn't use it selfishly and never too greedy for it. BOTH of them. Damn who's doing it like them. The fact that they are superior BOTH— individually and as a couple omg will never get enough in the idea of them. They are such goals! the BLUEPRINT.

Reminder that if your feminism revolves around propping up women that partake in traditionally masculine activities/roles and shitting on or even hating women who embody traditionally feminine roles and enjoy feminine activities you’re not really a feminist.
It sets the precedent that women are only valuable and valid if they have traditionally masculine traits, which feeds a narrative that masculine traits are better simply because they are associated with men who are the ideal. It perpetuates the idea that things that are feminine and traditionally associated with women are in fact inferior to men/masculinity and should be looked down upon and belittled.
And, it alienates so many individuals that feel more comfortable in femininity, regardless of gender identity.
I think people in the ASOIAF fandom really need to learn this because feminine characters are so despised on the basis that they are not “better” women. Simply because they don’t embody traditionally masculine things like conquering or fighting.
Much of the hate comes from stans that love characters like Rhaenyra, Daenerys, and Arya (and do not get me wrong I love Arya), who are women and girls that are in positions that allow for more traditionally masculine behaviors and tomboyishness. And they will say incredibly sexist things about how the other women in media are inferior and directly contrast these women to their faves negatively by pointing out that they’re “too weak” or “subservient”. They reduce femininity to weakness and bowing to patriarchy instead of considering that some people have a different, more feminine nature. And that is OK! Just because a woman isn’t wielding a sword or fighting on the front lines or pursuing leadership roles in masculine ways (because historically women exacted and sought power in different ways than men) doesn’t mean they aren’t valuable and strong characters. Do not use feminine characters as a negative comparison to show how “feminist” and great your fave is. Because it’s just so blatantly sexist.
Don’t fall into the trap of reinforcing patriarchal rhetoric!!! Don’t reinforce narratives that traditional masculinity is superior to femininity!! Don’t belittle feminine activities and act as if they aren’t valuable!!! Girbosses are great but so are gentlewomen.

a while ago i saw a post about dirk and vriska having the naruto vs one piece debate, only they don’t realise that dirk is talking about human naruto and one piece, and vriska is talking about troll naruto and one piece. and obviously dirk favours the ninja show and vriska favours the pirate one
but here’s the thing. i think that, objectively speaking, troll naruto would be better than human naruto, and human one piece would be better than troll one piece
(disclaimer: i prefer one piece. i did not finish naruto. i will try to be balanced however) so, naruto is a series where the characters are in a military dictatorship and the narrative thinks this is fine. imo, one of things naruto does poorly is tonal consistency. the characters are ninjas but they never assassinate anyone. the heroes are Good People Who Don’t Do Murder (mostly). it has a whole bunch of things that are incredibly messed up if you think about them, but they just kinda get ignored or not addressed.  troll naruto would be significantly more violent, and many of the things that are morally wrong irl but happen in naruto are just. things that happen in troll society. it would therefore have a much more consistent tone. i also think that kids raised to be soldiers for the military dictatorship, the clans, etc, would go down well with the imperial propaganda machine. meanwhile one piece has like. the main characters fight the world government. “it is a bad idea to punish people for the circumstances of their birth” is a running theme. i think troll one piece would be the one with the inconsistent tone and contradicting words vs actions, because all of this would be immediately get shut down by the empire.
anyway the point is, once dirk and vriska figure out they’re arguing about different shows, they sit down to watch each other’s culture’s anime. and find that the other’s version of naruto/one piece is better. and are immediately like, what the hell. how are you even more wrong than you were before. i hate you so much
and the argument continues forever

My extremely cold take is that, while the option to play a woman is very cool and the sole reason I got into Mass Effect, and while her performance is considered by many to be superior, Femshep herself is not a Strong Female Character. When people include her in various Favorite Female Characters lists and such, I have to wonder if they’re mainly talking about the character that exists in their head.
At the very least, when discussing the fleshed out female characters of the series, to dismiss the other human women, including the sole Latina, to prop up the usually white readhead Jane. It’s not a very Girl’s Girl attitude.

“IF her aunt hadn't lived in Novokibirsk. Zoya would still follow the darkling.”
Honestly, it's the funniest thing I have ever read. Because "IF" = creating/making stories. "IF" = something that even NONE in the books. Something they don't even read.
Zoya and her blind loyalty to Ravka. She truly worked at her very best for Ravka, she fights, she bleeds NOT for herself but for Ravka. Zoya has always been faithful to Ravka: UNTIL she let herself believe to the TYRANT who PROMISED her the safety, the future of Ravka.
So it's really really funny when people said: "IF her aunt hadn't lived in Novokibirsk. She would still follow the darkling."
Because the TRUTH: Zoya has always been faithful to Ravka, NOT to the darkling. Sadly.
“Zoya hasn't changed. She is still that short-tempered, rude.”
"Change" doesn't always mean: have to change their "temper." That is something "natural", a part of that person. The real "change" is: how that person changed his/her perspective, and point of view on everything.
Does Zoya still see Alina as her rival? She finally realize and learned from Alina. Does she still think that she is the best among others? She treats everybody the same with "respect", not as mean as before.
Zoya might be that ruthless, short-tempered etc people say. Im not even afraid to confess: that's the truth. Now real questions: does she abuse or torture? does she manipulate others? Being two-faced? Faking or sugar-coated everything just to get what she wants?
It's clear, in the books, her ruthlessness is to keep herself safe, her shield. that is what makes Zoya as a character different from any others, she doesnt completely change to fit in, she might be that ruthless but she NEVER being two-faced or faking everything in case to get what she wants. She was being REAL.
Also, it's clear enough that her ruthlessness does NOT refer to anything bad, her ruthlessness is only to push her soldiers, friends to be tough and stronger. Thats the fact.
That is Zoya.

imagine thinking that all ships between a man and a woman are het in 2023. imagine pigeonholing all m/f dynamics as somehow lesser/cringe because it involves a woman. imagine unironically parroting misogynist drivel in rp tags post-early 2010s.

i think my biggest beef with "Miss Scarlet and the Duke" is just the general awareness of the characters. I get that the entire point of the show is about a lady detective attempting to make her way in a man's world and having to fight her way through sexism prejudice and injustice for every single victory she claims, but there's a level of... modernity? to a lot of the issues addressed that just... doesn't quite flow with the setting and the rest of the writing, imho.
like--the female characters talk about how they can't do anything of importance because they're women, the gay characters talk about how they're 'outcasts of society' and 'marked for life' because of their sexuality, the misogynist male characters flaunt their male privilege over everyone, loudly, with extreme awareness. idk, it all just seems very much like inflicting modern views and opinions onto historical characters who couldn't possibly have the context to actually hold those views?
and don't get me wrong, I am not saying that these issues didn't exist in that time period. they did, and they were very real, and the people who faced them really did have to struggle in ways we'll not fully understand because we enjoy so much freedom today that had to be hard-won by previous generations. but there... was a bit of balance, I think, in a lot of ways? for instance, women weren't allowed to hold political power, but they had enormous social power. and I think a lot of that is overlooked and glossed-over in order to make a big loud statement about historical sexism and give a lot of snappy dialogue about how 'it's a man's world' and 'how DARE a woman do ANYTHING'.
and I say all this with caveats, too, because I just blazed through all of season 1 in two days, and I actually am enjoying the show! Eliza and William are both really fun characters, and I love their dynamic with one another! there's a lot of good stuff too in respect to how neither of them are fully clear-cut people with simplistic moral and ethical codes, they're not cardboard cut-outs but actual characters, and I appreciate that. and I appreciate that there are women of diverse backgrounds who want various different things from life and they're all represented equally and with dignity--same of the male characters. and I do think there's a historical precedent for a lot of the things that are brought up in the episodes! there's real history here. but I think the writers are missing some of the real depth of it for the sake of boiling everything down to focusing on One Specific Topic (ie, anti-woman sexism, social injustice, and general misogyny in the past and the struggle to be seen as An Actual Valid Professional as a woman in a career and profession completely dominated by men). and in a lot of ways, when the story really gets lost in itself and stops trying so hard to be About Sexism, it's a lot more immersive and enjoyable.
again, all just imho.
