i’ve recently become obsessed with the stock procreate Noise Brush. i’m using it for rendering a lot right now because i like how abstract it is and it pairs well with rough sketches.

the above sketch looks way more complete and 3D despite still being my first draft!

i also use the stock procreate Dry Ink brush because it blends nicely with the noise brush but lays down a much denser line, so it’s good for coloring in large spaces while still keeping that painted look.

these hands were inked with Ink Bleed because i love the crunchy texture of that brush. it has a very nice sketchy quality that can still produce some really precise lines.

as for rendering with the noise brush, i like to do each big block-in on a separate layer. i lay down a bulky shadow with noise and carve out wherever the light hits the surface using a dry ink eraser. that way, it looks nice and stenciled. when i like my new shadow, i usually combine it down to the main shadow layer for simplicity’s sake, and begin a new layer for the next shadow. this is so that i can easily erase and create the perfect gradients without affecting the pre-existing shadows.

i’m always happy to share my techniques and talk about them! i’m always learning new things and changing how i do things and i have no ten commandments lawl. i’m glad you say the noise is like a visual stim because it’s the same way for me, it’s so satisfying! i hope this is helpful :’D

Weird about personal space, weird about waking up together and bedtimes… it’s probs the reason he’s so tricky abt relationships in the first place bc he’s so used to being on his Own that he barely knows what you’re talking about when you bring up his lack of siblings as the reason for his prickliness.

He’s all, “I’m not this way bc of that! I’m perfectly fuckin’ normal, thank you!” as he literally assumes you’re trying to pick a fight😭… and then holds a grudge over it. “Having siblings doesn’t make you better than me!”

OR the second you say he’s just mad about something because he never had to share as a kid (canon) or was told the word “no…” and he’s just standing there breathing all heavy with his arms crossed bc he doesn’t have a valid argument to snap back with (and the face I’m imagining is so funny I wish I could draw).

It’s funny tho, when he finally accepts it and you get to see his confused, embarrassed face when he starts realizing that he’s been making dinner without asking what you want to eat, or trying to go out without telling you where. He’s so spoiled!!!

Do you write multi-chapter fics in order or do you jump around? And if you do go in order, do you go back to revise earlier chapters as you go or are they pretty much ready to post once you move on to the next chapter?

I write multi-chaps in order — which I don’t necessarily recommend because a scene I may be three chapters away from writing will sing and dance in my mind and we’re not there yet. So I will add key elements of that scene to my outline, which actually can be good in the long run because by the time I finally write the scene, the words can flow fairly easily because the scene has been in my mind for so long (with outline memory aids for specifics).

I know some people write out of order, and I’m glad that method works for them. For me, I need the linear nature in which the story will (presumably) be read to inform the writing. As always, though, the best way to write is the way that works for the writer.

In terms of revision, I revise constantly. Little stuff, big stuff. I need the whole story written and edited before posting even the first chapter (with one exception because I knew exactly where I was going and felt like I was going to explode if I didn’t start posting). For me, the revision process can help sharpen things like foreshadowing and key themes. I find revision deeply rewarding. It’s like — I built a home and now I get to buff the floors and straighten the address numbers and make sure the cookies in the oven are done just in time to invite in anyone who wants to share the home I built for whomever might want to be there.

ok but like steampunk shit was my first hyperfixation ever and let me tell you i am foaming at the mouth as i type this. like i still have an egregious quantity of books about the whole steampunk aesthetic, and also for other people obsessed with steampunk and classic litterature, may i suggest the manga 'city hall' by guillaume lapeyre and rémi guérin, since i believe it's been translated in english (spoilers : the main character is jules verne) like it had such a chokehold over me and i can't wait to read more of steampunk copia hdhdjdjjdjekedk
