You shall not sneer at me.

Pick up your hat and stethoscope,

Go wash your mouth with laundry soap!

I contemplate a joy exquisite

In never paying you for your visit.

My malady is a common cold.

Here is the genuine Cold Colossal;

The Cold of which researchers dream,

The Perfect Cold, the Cold Supreme.

This honored system humbly holds

The Super-Cold to end all colds.

The Cold Crusading to end democracy,

The Führer of the Streptococcracy.

Bacilli swim within my portals

As such were ne’er conceived by mortals,

But bred by scientists, wise and hoary,

In some Olympian laboratory.

Bacteria as large as mice

With feet of fire and heads of ice

Who never interrupt for slumber

Their stomping elephantine rumba!

A common cold, forsooth, gadzooks!

Then Venus showed promise of good looks,

Don Juan was a budding gallant,

And Shakespeare’s plays show signs of talent.

The Arctic weather is rather coolish,

And your diagnosis is fairly foolish.

CDC finally fuckin' recommended the new COVID boosters for everyone in the US. letting my american followers who don't check the news know because i've been turned away for wanting to get an extra booster & now won't be anymore & it's Lovely. most americans are not going to get these and are going to grumble about them, which sucks as far as spread goes - but DOES mean u can schedule with ur local pharmacy sooner rather than later. please do so. ur immunocompromised friends and ur own body will thank u.

Jeez I hate being sick. Normally my kid gets whatever crud is going around and then I get it 2.4 days later but not this time! Oh no, this time I got sick first which is almost worse because I have to coddle her through the early stuff even when I feel awful. My husband (her dad) helps but she always wants me when she's ill.

Also, relatedly, I always thought it was fucking magic when my mom would touch my forehead and just announce "you have a fever". Like what mystical mom shit is that! And now I have that mystical mom shit myself!

(it's because your kid is on you all the time so you are intimately familiar with their little body. If their temp is up, breathing is funny, etc, you just instinctively can feel it. It's pretty incredible)
