I've seen a lot of ppl confused/concerned over the cordy kiss (bleh) at the end of ep 2 and I'm just gonna give my brief take away from it.
I feel like the kiss was there to establish a couple of things:
1. If you're infected you'll kinda be ignored by the hive mind (the companion podcast talks about this and while they dont mention that it hides you from the hive mind the creators did say that the more you try to fight the infection the more violent they are at getting you infected)
2. I absolutely believe that the one runner came up to her and kissed her (ewwww the tendrils) because they were feeling resistance to the hive mind/could also sense what she was about to do and wanted to speed up the infection process as a way to save themselves. Ironically i think speeding up the process and allowing Tess to flick the lighter slower/not as panicked is what lit it and ultimately led to their death

So I decided to watch a TLOU part 2 gameplay and I am NOT OKAY.
HEAVY SPOILERS AHEAD MY DUDES:
Start to just before that *scene*:
Joel telling Tommy about everything while meticulously cleaning a guitar. Almost like it’s a touchstone.
Little Ellie drawing everything as a little exercise in therapy
Joel being such a sweet Papa Bear  That facking cover and his voice breaking and Ellie can’t help but respond and smile I cannot
”It did not suck” Young miss Ellie continuing her little shit era proudly OK Jessie no need to be this hot AND have a southern accent AND being a good bro AND a queer ally of course no one this perfect will last long
Honestly Dina should’ve just dated both of them
Well then! Watched the weed lab scene at work, like a horny dumbass. This scene is perfect but also I am spoilered to death so it just makes it worse.
“You make me want to walk out into the storm”“Who’s stopping ya?”
Godddang it sapphics quit it! (Hits the ladies with the horny stick)Who even needs foreplay here, really?
Dina has got so much game I do not know how Ellie so much as hesitated.
Jessie being annoyed that the girls were smoking and boning on patrol and for no other reason at all is very much the greenest of flags
The look on Abby’s face when they introduce themselves
Tommy and Joel being nice and trusting towards the very beefy lady who knows how to use a gun is peak character development and also very upsetting that this was their true downfall. Joel from five years before would never. Can’t wait for this to be played by our sweet Pedro.
Joel and Tommy being Dads asking Abby if she’s okay and being so concerned.
Joel and Tommy being led by Abby to (their demise) the hideout.
Honestly fack Abby’s dad. Dude had a bachelor’s degree in Biology and didn't even bother to train anyone else in the very likely case he would die. He deserved that death (thematically only not morally) just for that giant god complex.
“You act like you’ve heared of us” Oh Joely, baby, sweet prince. Sorry about your leg man.
I watched cut clips of this scene in video essays years before but yea shit hits different when you watch it like a movie. And Ellie running around the woods. I didn’t play the game but desperately running to look for him must be a new kind of narrative torture.
Thanks this was brutal. Ellie’s screams man. God Ashley did good here. I felt torn apart along with her. And knowing this is gonna happen was as bad as watching the show’s version of Sarah’s death. I had to take a break after that.
Edit: Continued to watch without really recording any coherent thoughts so everything else will be summarized into an “end of watch” review because I always have such bad vertigo after watching for more than 30 minutes of gameplay.
Also I am highkey into Abby and I now understand why we the queers claimed her she is so gosh darn pretty I hope they find an actor who can embody this vulnerability in a tank body.

The Last of Us - Episode 8 Spoiler Free Review
A day late on the review again, needed a bit more time to collect my thoughts on the episode before reviewing it again.
I think this might be one of my favourite episodes of the season so far. Anyone still doubting Bella Ramsey after this episode, I have no idea how you’re still doing it because they were excellent.
As usual, the show is on point with the recreations and the streamlining of gameplay sections. Of course Pedro is amazing as Joel, but the highlight should definitely on Ellie for this episode. The actor they got to play David was incredible in the role as well.
Honestly the casting all around continues to be on point, and the show continues to be excellent. It’s kinda strange to think the show is almost over, but we’ll be getting another season so there’s that silverlining. I’ve been so impressed with this show.

The Last of Us S1E2: "The Infected" Review
Ellie in ‘Infected’ (Screengrab: The Last of Us Season 1 Episode 2) After an incredible first episode, I felt myself wondering Will The Last of Us be able to keep the momentum going? Can they continue to build tension, raise the stakes, and flesh out the characters before us after the stellar debut? Episode 2, ‘Infected’, showed that it sure can! (more…) “”

I Went to World Premiere of ‘The Last of Us’ for HBO and Here are My Thoughts
It’s the start of a new year and the post-holiday slump is in full force (safe to say, most of us are still dragging our feet as we get back into a new grind). With a season of new beginnings comes a plethora of announcements — including the long-awaited release of the famed post-apocalyptic video game series The Last of Us, brought to us by Naughty Dog and Sony PlayStation studios, reimagined…

The Last of Us Ep 1
The much anticipated HBO show, The Last of Us, based on the PlayStation game by Naughty Dog, finally premiered last week. The game enjoyed by millions world wide has put this show in the spotlight long before it aired, bringing in big names like Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey to take on the leads, as these beloved characters, Joel Miller and Ellie Williams respectfully. Now this is not an opinion piece on casting choices, both actors have impressive roles behind their belts, and the acting in this episode will be talked about later. Going forward there will be spoilers for episode 1 of the HBO show, and this warning also goes for those who have played the game but have not seen the show yet. Here are three reasons why HBO’s The Last of Us is shaping to not only be the best video game adaption, but a solid show that can stand on its own.
When talking about video game adaptations, think The Witcher or Resident Evil, a big complaint from fans has always been a lack of following the source material. Now this is a common occurrence when any media is translated to a movie or T.V show, and yes some information has to be cut just due to formatting, but video game fans have been screwed over time and time again. When given such great material to work with, viewers and fans are often left wondering, “How the hell did you mess this up?” Luckily, that is not something that original fans of The Last of Us have to fear. When watching the first episodes, long-time fans can see the characters and game play come to life. There are shot for shot, line for line scenes coming straight from the game. And for new fans the suspense is built up gradually, the opening panel- a new original scene for the show, sets up the idea of a pandemic, a fungal pandemic. I know, the topic of pandemic may seem over done, but this reminder that we as humans are vulnerable to any kind of large moving sickness is something we should keep in our minds. Slowly the main characters are introduced, Sarah, beloved daughter of Joel and by fans, gets more depth added to her while sticking to her iconic scenes. The car scene, game fans know this exact scene, feels as if you are back in the game playing. Now with all of it’s faithfulness, the show does take creative liberty with certain scenes and moments. The opening scene, all the additional moments between Sarah and Joel and Tommy, adding higher stakes to the escape scenes. HBO is creating a fine balance between respecting the source material and fans, and creating and giving long-time fans something new and exciting to digest.
Now none of these scenes, original or new, would be as impactful without the amazing cast behind these characters. From well known names such as Pedro Pascal (Joel) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie), to newer faces like Nico Parker (Sarah). Every action packed moment, heartfelt goodbye, or intense fear that viewers can practically feel themselves, would not be possible without the stunning performances by this entire cast. Nico Parker was absolutely stunning to watch. Her role, while limited, was absolutely carried by her acting. Sarah, while being a fan favorite, is very limited in her time in the game. The beginning of the episode creates more moments, more daily life between Sarah and her family, a chance to really see who she was, and Parker delivers such a sincere, honest portrayal of her. Sarah’s love for her father can be felt through the screen, along with her fear, which adds to the ever mounting suspense that keeps all viewers on the edge of their seats. Pedro Pascal, a well known father figure already with his character The Mandalorian, has uncanny chemistry with both Parker and Ramsey. While only one is actually his daughter, at least in this first episode, the bantering between him and Ramsey carries over what fans fell in love with in Ellie and Joel’s relationship in the first place. Bella Ramsey, our Ellie, executes Ellie’s humor, a titular aspect of her character, in such a perfect way it truly is as if Ellie has come to life on screen. Truly what all these actors, from Anna Torv (Tess) and Gabriel Luna (Tommy), bring to the screen is something to behold. Impactful acting for a story that holds so much weight to so many. This project is being handled with so much care.
Finally, the soundtrack. Once again, The Last of Us’ soundtrack is being handled by Gustavo Santaolalla. Original fans of the game will recognize the iconic opening credits of the show, along with hearing the chords from the original theme, aptly titled ‘The Last of Us’. Now this is a song that fans would be able to recognize anywhere. Once again the creators are relying on the source material and in doing so, shows respect to the characters, world and audiences. Music is not only important for the audience but to some of the characters themselves. We learn that Joel operates his smuggling business by using a radio. 60’s means nothing in, 70’s for new stock, and 80’s for X. Now what does the X mean? Ellie along with viewers wonder, and in no time Ellie is able to “crack” Joel’s code. She gathers by his reaction after saying the radio turned on playing a Wham song, that 80’s must mean trouble. Now the end song playing out over the end scene as our characters have just made their daring escape is none other than Despche Mode’s “Never Let Me Down Again”, released in 1987. And what did we just learn that the 80’s meant? Trouble, and for those of us who have played the game, we know these characters are never far from it.
All in all, this is the most well done and thought out adaptation possibly to date. Riding off of high expectations, HBO’s The Last of US is exceeding most of them. Truly looking forward to the new twists they will add to an already incredible storyline, the show stopping acting, and listening for any new clues that this soundtrack can give us. Shockingly, or maybe not, this episode get’s a 5/5 and I can not wait to see if the rest of the series lives up to this groundbreaking first episode.

This Week in BL - The unexpected rise of cooking crush & seme bjs
Organized, in each category, with ones I'm enjoying most at the top.
Jan 2024 Wk 3
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
The Sign (Sat YT) ep 9 of 12 - I love this show so damn much. This may be my KinnPorsche. It’s just so endlessly entertaining in a perfectly unhinged way. I love that they looped Tharn’s dad back into the murder investigations.
You know kinksters have invented necklaces that can’t come off… right? Just saying.
Meanwhile, would it still be BL if our seme didn’t wake up from drowning and instantly go chase snake?
No. No it would not.
Remember the one hard and fast rule of BL? When a seme gives a BJ it’s penance. Phaya is apologizing to Tharn for leaving him behind.
Heh. Hard and fast. I kill me.
Pit Babe (Fri iQIYI) ep 10 of 14 - How is this absurd creature managing to rise in the ranks? Pavel turned in some stellar grief and ALANJEFF have my whole heart. I make Ikea puns in the... Trash watch happening here.
Cooking Crush (Sun YT) ep 7 of 12 - The make-out montage was absolutely charming and very much American rom com style - interesting (and rare) to see in a BL (not to mention from OffGun. How far we have come since Puppy Honey?)
Meanwhile, another wonderful grandma in a BL!
Next week we do an actual harken back to Puppy Honey, so obviously I’m now enjoying this whole show way more than before. I think it helped that I watched it earlier in the week, when it wasn’t competing with any other BLs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last Twilight (Fri YT) ep 11 of 12 - Not gonna lie, I knew from you all that this was gonna be a rough ep. But I very clearly remember the penultimate Bad Buddy ep so I now have slightly more trust than others in GMMTV on this matter.
That said, this was a crap episode.
You can’t set Mork’s truth and character motivation reveal up like that and then have his lover choose to dismiss him in a way that diminishes not just both character's growth AND all of Mork's actions towards Day, but also our faith in every other character. It was a shitty narrative thing to do to us, and it was a shitty thing to do to Mork. And that doesn’t even take into account the forgiveness allotted by the story to Day’s unrepentant excuse for a mother.  The doom should have been handled differently. The mom shoudl have leaned in even more evil and actively lied to split them apart.
I don't know if they can redeem this misstep in the final episode. But I'm interested to see them try. That said, this plot seem to be true to the book.
Tumblr media
For Him (Thurs iQIYI) ep 8 of 12 - A major trigger has landed. But also it’s clear who’s fault that incident was... and it’s not Him’s. So Blue's so-called-friend really is unhinged. This episode was a little bit more engaging than last week, but it’s only because stuff actually happened. I’m still not sure I enjoyed it.
Twins the series (Fri GaGa) ep 12fin - Despite the fact that I’ve been annoyed by the show the last couple of episodes, I’m still sad for it to end. It was a good reveal and First had the right response. Also a very sports way to end it. Sprite is a v clingy bf.
In brief?
A messy very Thai pulp sports romance that actually managed to involve sports in an identical twins trading-places plot. Basically Not Me meets HIStory 2 Crossing the Line (although vastly inferior to either) with an endearing main character and a good lead pair (poor things), both soapy and earnest without too much camp. It tried so hard but the plot, side couples, and extraneous characters let us down. Passable if not great. 7/10
Time the series (Thai Gaga) ep 2 of 10 - Eh. Whatever.
My Universe (Sun iQIYI) ep 22 of 24 - skipped this installment
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Although I Love You and You AKA Sukiyanen Kedo Do Yaro ka (Japan Gaga) ep 2 of 10 - Funny how quickly he retracted that confession and everyone called him out for doing it too soon (including me from a narrative beats perspective). It was a cute screw up - I see what your meta-arse is doing there, Japan. Also our Tokyo-boy’s serious reserved earnestness is extra adorable in the surrounded by Osaka enthusiasm context. His accidental flirting is that much more heart wrenching for our poor baby seme.  And they ended this ep with honorific negotiations!! Be still my heart. I’m really adoring this show.
Your hyung romance super fan is back in the game!
Meanwhile the Osaka accent is beyond adorable.
Sahara-sensei to Toki-kun (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 6 of 8 - Japan what are you doing? I do love the not-sorta-ex from the past.
VIP Only (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 10fin - I loved all the young people in the hawker center supporting the campaign against the terrible mother. They make a good domestically sappy couple. But that is Taiwan's specialty.
In brief?
A sweet if aimless story about a writer and a chef finding love via noodles, fake dating, and family challenges. If it had a tighter script and a shorter run, more like a KBL this might’ve been quite special. But it didn’t and it lost me too many times. 6/10
I don’t like to be disappointed by Taiwan.
Tumblr media
It's done: I Need to Catch up
What Did You Eat Yesterday Season 2 AKA Kinou Nani Tabeta? Season 2 (Japan Gaga) 10 eps - will binge when I have any spare time. 2024 is crazy busy for me so far.
The Servant and the Young Master - from Vietnam so I assume it's on YouTube. I never even noticed. Anyone?
Began Beginning (Myanmar YouTube) - Is TRUST Entertainment bringing us the first ever Burmeses BL? I don't know if it's really the first, but @heretherebedork vouched for it, so I will give it a watch through.
Tumblr media
It's Airing But...
[INTERNATIONAL] Cherry Magic (Sat YouTube) ep 3 of 12 - yeah Japan put the smack down on our boys. Sadness. You can use a VPN if you like. Read all about it here.
Beside You (Thai YouTube) - a 3 sp short that's supposed to have started but I can't find it.
Ossans Love Season 2 (Japan Gaga) - 5 years later, will anything have changed? This is Japan so… probubly not. I won't be watching this. I disliked Season one and actively hated the follow ups. No thank you.
Playboyy (Thurs Gaga) 14 eps - Dear Playboyy, it's not you, it’s me… I hate you. You’re about as deep (and as palatable) as a shot glass of cum. While I'm sure you’re someone’s kink, you're my weakest link. Goodbye. I DNFed this at ep 5. Frankly I'm impressed with myself for getting that far.
The Whisperer (Sun ????) 10 eps - Ends next week. Thai horror BL that ALSO involves cheating (what joy is mine). I don't think even the perfect single dimple can motivate me to watch. Word is... it's terrible.
7 Days Before Valentine (Weds WeTV) 10 eps - Giving me Luminous Solution vibes. I'm waiting to binge if safe.
Dead Friend Forever (Thai Sat iQIYI) - horror, meh, tell me if it's worth my time?

Tumblr media
1/24 Love For Love's Sake (Korea Gaga & iQIYI)- based on the Manhwa ‘Love Supremacy Zone’ by Hwacha. A young man is dropped into a game based off a novel he loves. His mission is to make another player, YeoWoon happy. But then the game starts unfolding completely different from the novel.

The Last of Us - Episode 7 Spoiler Free Review
Apologies this review is so late, I watched the episode yesterday, but didn’t know what to say in the review, so I’d left it for the time being.
Anyway, another great episode. Out of the actors in this week’s episode, gonna have to highlight Bella Ramsey and Storm Reid as Ellie and Riley. Bella continues to knock it out of the park as Ellie, and Storm was great as Riley, I really enjoyed their chemistry.
Was it my favourite episode? No, but it was still an enjoyable episode. Absolutely does not deserve all these 1 star reviews I hear it’s getting. I myself would probably give it either a high 7 or low 8 minimum. Also my dad had never actually played the Left Behind DLC, so it was kinda fun watching it with someone who hadn’t played the DLC.
On another more general note, it seems like a lot of people who have played the game are forgetting how much of the game’s runtime is just gameplay that wouldn’t translate well into a show or a movie and how little of that runtime is actually major story beats.
Overall, I’ve been adoring the show, and the gameplay sections have been streamlined to fit the show format really well.

My latest video is about Video Games as Art, I don't give a clear-cut definition of what I think art is, but I criticise the construction of games as "art" purely in the lens of expensive, AAA blockbuster games that win many awards and get a lot of 10s and how that is damaging to the medium at large.
Chapter Summary:
How The Last of Us created a culture of "demanding respect"
The review score obsession & harassment
Why do people hate Japanese Games?
