Hey I saw the crown you picked! Do you have any interesting worldbuilding around religion in your settings, or do any of your characters have an interesting relationship with religion?

Hi, thanks for the ask!

So in The Mad 'universe' religion is very much based on location/ region. The people of the Four Kingdoms often worship The Unnamed Sun God, also known in the kingdom as just God. Many also worship his feminine aspect The Moon Goddess although The Sun God is considered the single true God. The Southern Kingdom is more open to foreigners (magical and non-magical) so many different Gods are worshiped by the people. The islanders in 'The Mad' universe have a polytheistic religion.

In the otherworld, the religion is less eclectic. Most lesser, higher, royal, and peasant fae believe in multiple Gods. Their religion is based on Irish mythology. Danu, the mother goddess, is believed to be the creator of the entirety of the universe. The temples of Danu house the records where the true names of all living Fae are kept. Another major Goddess is Aine, her sister, the Goddess of Love and Magick. Aine is said to dictate your Chroí (an equivalent of a mate/soulmate).

The religions of the otherworld/ human realm reflect their society. The otherworld has a matriarchal system in place and so the creator is a woman and many Gods with different aspects are celebrated. The human realm (particularly the four kingdoms) is a patriarchy so there is one God that is worshiped.

The main character, Red, believes in multiple Gods. She's very aware of the fact that there is a lot out there that simply can not be known. She doesn't practice religion but she does practice witchcraft which has been in her family for generations.

I love Matilda because it's a story about a child who sees injustice around her and gets mad about it and questions why things aren't fair, and instead of the ending being that she learns how the world works and that life isn't fair, she catapults one of the adults who abused her out of a building with her mind
