ORV X OG!CALE
Tumblr media
More under the cut because this post is a bit of a long one!
When the apocalypse first started, Cale did not think he was going to survive because he did not like the idea of killing someone. However, Ron came to save the day! Ron got his kill and made sure Vicross got his before ordering him to protect Cale much to Vicross' dismay. Ron basically subdued multiple people who looked like they were going to kill the Henituse family and brought them for others to kill. (He mainly does this because he sees this as a good time to repay a favor and later stays because he sees there is some stability still in the Henituse territory.) This allows the Henituse family to survive.
Cale was honestly surprised he made it even if he didn't really have to do anything other than kick down and stomp onto his morals. Now, as time continues on, surviving with his family and the scary duo of Ron and Vicross becomes easier, and they start to see through his trashy mask.
Because would trash repeatedly check up on them and donate coins when they are running low? No, trash wouldn't, but Cale does. Cale starts to hunt monsters with Vicross for food (someone help him, he's terrified but not of the monsters.)
So, the relationships of the family are still strained, but there is a lot less awkwardness. Who knew that all it would take was the end of the world for some improvements. Moving on, on one of their monster hunting trips, they ran into Rok Soo, who was becoming quite popular as a hero. However Cale’s problem was that this dude looked just like him!
There are a lot more run-ins between Cale and Rok Soo before they start talking. Later, when things are becoming even more dangerous, Cale decides to make a deal with the man who was becoming closer and closer to a God each day. Cale said he would do everything and anything for Rok Soo if Rok Soo kept his family safe and happy, Rok Soo had agreed because he needed to Cale act as him.
This later becomes a very common occurrence, Cale would travel places while acting as Rok Soo to confuse the enemy on Rok Soo's whereabouts. This has even worked against the constellations before. Cale helping out Rok Soo so much was beginning to bring up his fame too, his fame as a hero.
He didn't know how to feel about that, but he does know that he has begun to like his lookalike. And that he has gotten very used to having extensions in his hair.
This is why he was rather sad to see his friend become a constellation, but him becoming a constellation was to save their world so he doesn't dwell on it.
With everything over, Cale thought he would go back to being an alcoholic but he was scouted by a group who was trying to revive the arts after the devastating apocalypse. This included dancing and painting, but more importantly, theater. Cale’s acting as Rok Soo has made the group try and bring him into the theater world.
Cale, with nothing better to do, agrees and becomes known as a famous actor. He normally gets casted as Rok Soo (even when he is a character in the play, they cast him as Rok Soo)
He thinks the best part of his new job as an actor is that his family attends all of his plays. He had sent out an invite at first with little hope, but when he saw their faces in the crowd- he didn't know how to describe the feeling.
That's the end of that! And now I give you a very large collection of drawings.
Tumblr media
Cale after his performance, it's a bit messy but I was very out of my element here!
Next, we have Cale and Rok Soo hanging out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cale was meant to say, "Yep! But only you can tell." Or something along those lines.
And lastly is Cale when this all started.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's all I got! While I'm here I would just like to thank the people who have left comments on my stuff, it really makes me smile and I always want to reply and say thank you but I don't want to sound like a bot! I always worry about things like that, but I'm trying to get better at it.

Omniscient Reader Viewpoint: A Mother’s Burden
Summary: In which Lee Sookyung is a mother of identical twins who endures and endures, until one of the twins tells her she doesn’t have to anymore.
Note: Twins AU! What if Dokja had a twin brother who is from another world?
Male OC!
Also, this is like my favourite Manhwa and novel ever, still can’t believe I haven’t written anything for this yet. Besides, can we give some recognition to the side characters of ORV? They’re pretty awesome too.
Warning: Some spoilers beyond the current point in Manhwa for ORV! Contains domestic abuse and violence and cursing.
Tumblr media
"Kim Dokja and Kim Duri."
Lee Sookyung is happy to call the twins her children.
"Duri. You're such a quiet child. Unlike your younger brother and your father." She says, out of breath, but is nonetheless glad that at least one of the twins aren't bawling their eyes out.
She smiles and Duri smiles too, before the baby suddenly started crying. Surprised, she quickly rocks him gently in her arms.
"Aigoo, my child, why are you crying all the sudden?"
Wails escape his lips.
"Don't worry, mommy's here."
She reassures him gently and rubs her cheeks against him.
It was all she needed to do before the baby stopped and fell asleep.
She lets out a sign of relief before she asks the nurse to help her.
When she looks back at where her husband was at, he was no longer there.
Lee Sookyung swallows the bitterness in her mouth and endures and endures.
Unlike Kim Dokja, Kim Duri is a quiet, quiet child.
Lee Sookyung is worried.
Duri rarely cries, and although it does bring her less stress, she's worried about his development. His eyes seem too old for a baby boy, and he doesn't cry or whine or ask for her at all compared to Dokja and other children.
It's odd for a baby to look at her with such eyes.
Duri doesn’t make a sound, and never smiles after his birth.
To her husband, Duri was an abnormality, but not enough for him to care.
It's easy to forget Duri.
That thought frightens Lee Sookyung.
"Mom." When he calls her, she jumps, because he doesn't call her often like Kim Dokja. When he does, it is always something that a child normally wouldn't say.
"Why do you stay with him?" Kim Duri is an abnormally perceptive kid. It's her fault that he is acting older than he should be, worried about things he should not worry about.
"Are you talking about Dad?" She smiles as she kneels down. She's somewhat unsettled by the way he doesn't flinch, doesn't acknowledge her wording but simply stares, patiently waiting for her answer.
"Don't worry about it, Duri. Mom will handle it. Why don’t you go and play with Dokja?"
"Do you want him gone?" It's such a scary question, but even so, Lee Sookyung doesn't show her skepticism. She shakes her head, it's a lie, but she can't leave that man yet.
(But why?)
Duri was three at the time, same as his younger twin brother, Dokja.
"Mom. It’s okay." He breathes out. Before he smiles.
He smiles.
Lee Sookyung froze because it was such a pitiful, understanding smile.
He leaves her in the kitchen, frozen in wonder. Was it her fault for being so stubborn? To stay in this abusive household?
The scars Duri holds are different. The weight of his stare doesn't come from nowhere.
So why?
She tiptoes to the twins bedroom and sees Duri reading a book to Dokja like a good older brother. Dokja asks lots of questions, sometimes says things that don't make sense, but Duri answers them all patiently and kindly.
Lee Sookyung is happy that Duri is mature, but why does her heart hurt so much?
When school came, Duri and Dokja were inseparable as ever.
“Bye Mom!” Dokja would always yell out before skipping ahead, dragging Duri by the hand.
Duri only looks back briefly before tagging along.
Lee Sookyung could only wave for a moment, before she left for her job.
Both her children are great.
Dokja is doing well academically, and Duri seems to do much better in athletics. Teachers would praise them in parent-teacher interviews and other parents would be jealous of her twins.
(But they don’t see what’s behind the curtains do they?)
“Stop it! Don’t hit the children!”
Lee Sookyung can take it all, whether it's deception, hatred, or anger from the man who she calls husband. But she can never let her children bear the same burden.
Beer bottles explode by the counter and she shields her children from the sharp glass shards.
“You bitch! You stole my money! Where’s my money!?”
It hurts so much, but she can take it.
She was a fool to believe things were going to be better and a fool for bringing her children into this.
Dokja was crying and frozen from fear, but Duri was abnormally calm.
“Mom, I’ll take Dokja to the room.”
Without another moment of hesitation, Lee Sookyung let them go, and Duri carried the sobbing Dokja to their bedroom despite the screaming of an angry man.
“Calm down honey-”
“It was you! You son of a bitch!” When she felt the belt whip her on her waist, a sharp pain erupted within her and she stumbled from the force.
“You spent it on the children didn’t you?! Huh?! I need it more than them!” Lee Sookyung quickly braced for impact by protecting her head and curling herself in.
She can take it.
“I took the money.”
Lee Sookyung immediately looked toward the familiar voice in panic. There stood Duri in his middle school uniform and he was emotionless. Behind him was the sound of Dokja pounding on the door and crying out his name.
“Hyung! Hyung! Hyung!”
“Duri! What are you doing? Go back-” Her voice was easily overwhelmed by her husband’s wrath.
“I knew you were a demon spawn! Give me back my money, you piece of trash!” Her husband rushed over with his belt like a madman.
“No Duri!” Lee Sookyung tried to stand up but she couldn’t, she could only helplessly watch Duri get whipped across his face with a belt.
The loud slap ranged in her ear and she cried out in anger.
“Duri!”
“This is self-defence now.”
In the next moment, Duri kicked her husband in the balls, hard.
Then he suddenly crashed to the ground.
“You fucking-” Her husband couldn’t even finish his words when suddenly the police knocked their apartment door down.
Lee Sookyung didn’t know what was going on, she was immobile on the ground by shattered glass while the police restrained her husband.
“I-I’m scared officer. Please, help me and my family escape my dad!” A plea, the first time she heard Duri so desperate, and saw tears rolled down his cheeks.
“I have evidence! I just can’t watch him continue anymore!”
(But Duri is not the type to cry. A dark part of her is telling her that this was deception)
“Don’t worry, we’ll take care of this. Give me what evidence you have.” Duri hands over a voice recorder and a small camera.
But did it matter at this point? She could always talk to Duri later. Right now, her children mattered the most.
“Duri! Mom!” Dokja managed to finally run out of the room after the police officer forced the door open. He quickly ran over to her and she hugged him close.
“You devil spawn! You planned this didn’t you?! You evil little bitch-” The police quickly handcuffed her husband and dragged him away.
“Ma’am, I’m going to need you and your children to follow us.”
“Okay.” When Duri stood before her and extended a hand, both she and Dokja held onto it.
“Mom, you don’t have to endure anymore.”
It took her a moment to understand what he said, and it was all she needed before tears rolled down her cheeks.
“Mom! Don’t cry, we’re here.” Dokja comforts her while wiping away her tears despite the fact he was tearing up too.
“Hyung! Do something!”
“Okay.” Duri hugs her awkwardly since he never initiated a hug before, and that tugged at her heart strings even more because he’s trying.
“Thank you.” She kisses both of her twins and then wipes away her tears.
Now, she needs to do what’s right, and she needs to take advantage of what Duri has given her.
She needs to be brave for her children.
With both her children by her side, she took a step forward.
The interrogation wasn’t long, in fact, it was very straightforward and the police officers were very nice. They first allowed them to go to the hospital to get first aid before proceeding with the questioning.
The police seemed to be well acquainted with Duri and Dokja, and it was then she found out that the twins had been helping other members of the community, whether it’s helping the grandma carry her groceries, or other children from bullies.
While Dokja was very shy about it all, Duri remained nonchalant about it, saying it was what they should do.
During the questioning, Lee Sookyung muttered up her courage, and told nothing but the truth. She admitted to the evidence that Duri submitted.
With everything pointing to her husband as the perpetrator, the results arrived quickly.
“I curse you! You demon spawn! I hope you die in the most painful way possible-'' When Lee Sookyung went to cover Duri’s ears, he pointed to Dokja instead. Lee Sookyung covered Dokja’s ears and watched Duri simply stare, uninterested.
It was her husband’s last words before he was taken to prison.
It felt too fast, too easy for all those years of abuse to suddenly disappear. Perhaps it was this easy, but she was simply too afraid.
She was a coward compared to Duri.
She was awarded decent compensation in return, and received the pity of the people around her. Duri and Dokja received praise from the police and admiration from others.
Life returned to normal a few months after the incident, and nothing has changed aside from the fact that they were finally safe.
Duri still did well in sports where he played a key role in helping the school win the championships, whereas Dokja came first in the entire school in language. They were still very much inseparable, where they filled in each other’s gaps and supported each other.
Lee Sookyung had to work a lot more, but with the community’s support, she was able to work peacefully.
She was never able to ask Duri about his choice or how he planned out this whole situation, but she believed that one day he would tell her the truth.
When that day comes, she will listen and she will believe.
That’s a promise she told Duri, and a promise she made to herself.
“Mom.”
Before Lee Sookyung could turn around, two hands covered her eyes. In an instant, she knew it was Kim Duri.
“Thank you for loving me.” Whenever he says this, she knows Duri’s feeling a bit vulnerable or down about something, but he never tells her.
So all she could do is comfort him in the best way she knew how. By reassuring him, and by giving him her time and attention.
(The things she was unable to give before wholeheartedly)
Lee Sookyung smiled before she put her own hand on his.
“Thank you.” For saving us.

Hi!! How are you? I just love taking unknown breaks 💀💀 Are you stil into orv brw?
Ok, I've been thinking of CEO/secretary dynamic with Dokja in his gaming company, and he's the most neediest, perviest man ever.
Like at any time in the day, he'd barge into your office and act so slutty, like giving out documents but showing off his seriously small waist. Maybe give you a little massage and start feeling you up. Sure it's sweet, but you just know he wants to get fucked now and there.
As a punishment, you make your dear secretary attend a meeting (like make him stand beside you). While presenting, you fiddle with the *ppt* remote, and Dokja has to try his absolute hardest not to moan out loudly. And you do this for hours.
Anyways, I'll take slutty dokja anyday 😇😇
hellou babyyyy, im good and u? and yes! i'm still reading it even though i still have a long way to read, but i am "simp of kim dokja" 🫢
ෆ    ִ      ׁ   sub kim dokja
dokja is a real brat when he's horny and wants to be used by you. he teases you in the slightest. he wears tight clothes revealing his slender figure, as well as tight pants revealing his fantastic ass.
he'd be the type to "drop" some papers and reach all the way down to pick them up, lifting his ass up and gently back up again. watching the way you look at him.
he likes to wear light pants and makes sure he wears feminine underwear, so you can see his thong as he walks past you.
you don't know how many times they've stayed late at the office on his account. lying that they need to fix a few things and it's just to take advantage and sneak into your desk and start sucking your cock/pussy.
when you're not in the mood, you just like to tease him and watch him stir in his own horniness.
imagine the embarrassment he feels when he's talking about an important matter and you take advantage of it to vibrate the toy he likes to carry inside his ass.
the number of times he has cum with that toy that stimulates his prostate is incredible. you feel a little sorry for him if he loses control and that gives him a hard time, but you don't care. he's a slut. he needs to learn.
while you talk you take care to look at him and discreetly move the button, making him squirm in his seat. his moans, disguised as "a cough" were already bothering everyone.
"mr. dokja, are you okay?" you ask mischievously.
"mmmhp,.. yes, yes! it's just hot in here…"
you raised an eyebrow letting silence reign in the room.
"i understand. when the meeting is over, i'll wait for you in my office, i don't like interruptions."
you continued with your presentation and the black-haired man had better not run before they were alone, because then he would receive a worse punishment than this. after all, only dokja was yours and you did whatever you wanted with him.

Hi JFK. What is orv?
im so glad you asked. im still reading it (chapter 459 so please no spoilers in the notes). omniscient reader's viewpoint (shortened to orv) is a korean webnovel about a man named kim dokja. and his life completely SUCKS. he has no friends, no family, he's abused under capitalism and is a contract worker for a shitty office job. the only thing he has in his life is a webnovel called "three ways to survive a ruined world" about a man trying to survive the apocalypse. he's been reading this novel as it updates for YEARS but it ends and he finds he isn't entirely satisfied. he looks forward to the epilogue, but on the day it is supposed to be published, the novel is instead deleted. he finds that the author has emailed him a pdf of the novel with a message saying "good luck". from then on, the events of the novel start to happen in real life, with him meeting his favorite characters and attempting to get a better ending for all of them. as the sole person who read through the entire novel, he thinks that he is best suited for steering them to the ending, but can you really know someone just from reading about them?
it's a huge meta-commentary on reading, writing, trauma, dissociation, finding out that you want to stay alive, capitalism, and stories! it basically asks the question: what if the stories and characters we loved loved us as much as we love them? if you've ever been chronically online, obsessed with a character, or suicidal i would absolutely recommend this novel. it even has time loops and vague polyamory. it has very simple prose that stands out because of how plainly it's written. since january, ive been reading at least a chapter a day and im heartbroken that the end is in sight for me. as soon as im done reading, i want to begin again <3

PLS READ ORV RIGHT NOW IM BEGGING YOU
I'm not good at explaining, so here's a post on what orv is about:
Tl;dr my reading experience and how orv changed the trajectory of my life (if you even care °^°)
the chokehold this novel has on me is not to be understated, like, this usually doesn't happen often because I'm so picky with what media i consume but...ORV.
Idk what happened to me but i felt like i was possessed while reading orv, like, i would be staying up all night and forgetting to eat or drink. It'd be the only thing I'd do everyday, i didn't open any other app unless I needed to.
I literally even read it at school every time a lesson requires me to bring an electronic device (LIKE KDJ SNEAKING OFF TO THE JANITOR'S CLOSET AND SECRETLY USING HIS COUSIN'S LAPTOP TO READ TWSA OMG)
NOW I CAN'T ESCAPE FROM ORV. ITS STUCK IN MY HEAD SAVE ME!!!!
After neglecting art for almost 2 years, i picked it up again just so i could draw orv. It was also the first time i was confident about sharing my art
All my socmed platforms are used solely to share my love for orv, it was the first time i was ever so open. I write about my thoughts on orv everywhere I go, I listen to music and subconsciously try to figure out if the lyrics remind me of orv, i keep comparing every other piece of fiction to orv (im always convinced orv did it better, orv out here setting the standard)
IM PRETTY SURE I MADE A POWERSCALE CHART OF KDJ'S STORIES AT SOME POINT LMAOOO
Everything is orv to me, i can't stop 😭
Literally everyone that's close to me KNOWS im obsessed with orv. HELL, i made a short film inspired by orv (the relationship between a writer and a reader) (its for a school project)
This was the first time I've ever recommended my dad a piece of fiction, my parents don't usually know my interests (it went: PLS READ IT. NOW. ITS SO GOOD PLS) (he didn't)
I think about orv every waking and sleeping moment i dont wanna stop obsessing over orv PLS I NEVER WANNA FALL OUT OF LOVE. My world revolves around orv, i love all the characters, the story, the message, EVERYTHING.
In conclusion, read orv. I cry myself asleep every night thinking about kimcom. I love them and i love the story to bits I WILL NEVER BE THE SAME. I'm sure this isn't just me but a lot of others too.

Somehow, im inspired to write that 'revision fic'. === (EDIT : u can skip but heres another snippet for u (3 separate bits that fit together nicely, actually haha) cuz hihi. THE AU: As i said, its a failed "3"rd regression context, where yjh is now in his "4"th round. The last memory he has of kdj is him dying, and to make things worse "In this round, that guy doesn't exist." is a thing, so yjh freaks out a bit but hes totally normal about this whole ordeal & the fact that he doesnt even remembers kdj's face now. Wdym! Hes fiiiiiine!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
sorry lol back to the actual post : (,hope u enjoyed that little treat tho^^)) ===
!!THAT [Somehow, im inspired to write [...]] HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE!!. I always like. do an outline for the overall story and vibe, then flesh out the start or something and cook up a little 500 (probably unsatisfying) words for fun kind of as a bonus. Keep it mostly for my private enjoyment and move on before the story comes to life. And that's okay... Yes, it would be cooler to actually write the AU ideas i get in novel or comic form instead of having them stay at just the 'sketch' & 'idea/brainstorm' phase before i get another idea and leave them to dust up in the pile,,
But yeah, its okay.
In the few years since ive started getting ideas for more elaborate aus/fics, ive noticed that my ideas improved with time. (no shit, i know, but it makes me happy! i grew up!!! i can see it.) My planning methods are better too. So all of that unfinished or abandoned stuff is not at all useless work in my eyes. And who knows, maybe one day i'll bring them back.
--> as a plus, all my fandom brainrot experiences even get transferred into my OC stuff, and frl whenever i read my notes these days (or listen to my voice memos lol) and im just like "HOW DID I THINK OF THIS WOW" or "WHEN DID I PUT THIS LIKE THIS? IT WORKS!" (not to brag or anything but my oc lore goes hard ☝️)
BUT. NOW THIS IS UNEXPECTED.
I DID NO PLANNING. I just started writing for orv and its. Lowkey, good ???? Dont get me wrong i only have 1.5k right now and there are clear holes i have to fill and stuff but... CLEAR HOLES! CLEAR HOLES. Sure Im used to being like "something of the sort should go there..." BUT THIS TIME ITS "THIS SHOULD GO THERE, ILL WRITE IT LATER BUT THE IMAGE IS IN MY MIND, CLEAR AS WATER, AND ONCE I START PUTTING IT ON THE PAGE ISTG THOSE WORDS WILL STREAM OUT OF MY FINGERS AS IF IT WAS A NORMAL OCCURENCE FOR ME" ,,- !??? Yo!
Anyways. Point is that somehow theres interesting stuff going on in my gg doc and the more i write the more i know where i want to go, so that's cool, i feel all powerfull for once
idk if that ease is going to stay once im done with the first scenes (ughh!!! theres so much potential!!!!!!!!) but hopefully yes. either way ill probably post it so im not baiting yall with a "um actually im writing smt rn --- *never shares with the class*" --- either 1) things go well and i write a "real fic" (!? wtf that wasnt my plan!) --- or 2) i only post the finished version of what i have now (expect around 5k? (i have no idea actually)) and we wait together to see if i pick up the idea again haha. (i do wish to write it tho! im not a 'writer' writer but i want to be one, u get me?)
! thank u see u byebye

I'm finally finishing the 1863rd arc yayyyy
Ch 299
1863rd hsy will stay to lead them ( ˘͈ ᵕ ˘͈♡)
Also the Fourth Wall is working so hard, trying to keep kdj’s panic attack at bay. He still can’t believe what happened… ;-;
Tumblr media
Unavoidable… I wonder was Gabriel trying to protect something or someone. A person who cares about the other angels… choosing the lesser of two evils seems like something they would do
Tumblr media
I can’t help but adore the way he cares for Uriel… He wants to help her. She helped him so much and showed great care and love. Kim Dokja just wants to do the same for her awwwww
Jophiel staying is something I never expected. But Gabriel saying that kdj & yjh remind them of their own companionship with Uriel… Both of them need each other, I see…
Tumblr media
Ohhhh I’ve seen this quote before! Can’t believe it’s from this arc. No matter the choice, the end is inevitable… Whether you want it or not, the world keeps going ahhhhhhhhhhh Such a good quoteeeeee
Tumblr media
*cries* he wrote down the information they could useeeeeeee
And hsy unsure whether she could accept this… It’s no longer the world kdj knew. They aren’t his companions. Yoo Joonghyuk is no longer there. Yet, he still cares so much ;-;
Tumblr media
SHE GAVE HIM HER COATTTTTTTTTTT
Giving your coat to someone else is a love language
Tumblr media
Doksoo nation, we are winningggggggggg
This is so cute ahhhhhhh, what the fuck, Kim Dokja has no right to say something like that, this stupid rat *shakes my fist at him* So cuteeee ahhhhh
Tumblr media
Just the fact that you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not there. It doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist…. Awww man, these paragraphs make me feel things ;-;
Tumblr media
Hold on a minute, this is ominous as all heck! You can’t drop something like this and disappear! Every story has a beginning and will one day have some kind of end. Even if it’s left unfinished, this too, will be an ending. What kind of story can exist without these things?
Ch 300
Tumblr media
Because it was a choice only someone who loves the story with his whole heart could make. Because, even if no one could understand, there were things he wanted to protect. Things he couldn’t sacrifice for the end or for his own gain. Because there is love, and it may not be enough to change the way that story was supposed to end, but it was there. It was enough ;-;
Tumblr media
*crying noises*
Tumblr media
Oh you little bitch-
I have a feeling that Kim Dokja’s own belief for his story will play a role in this as well ahhhhh
Where-or when- was Kim Dokja thrown????
Ahh immediately meeting someone newTM and kdj just giving us crumbs to their identity. Such a kdj move
Lmaooo poor Kim Dokja, being embarrassed to say his modifier. Don’t worry, sweetie, your modifier is lovely
Tumblr media
Ah, yes. Finally – the infamous Squidja lmaooo
The 1863rd arc was lovely, despite all the p a i n. I will be sure to reread it in one go in the future. But for now, let’s see what orv has in store!

THANK YOU FOR RBING WITH YOUR THOUGHTS especially the last line.
i really do miss when bsd stayed in its own genre, and I KNOW before someone comes at me that sometimes you gotta do a little exploring, a little swaying. but not like this. i just dont enjoy the manga anymore because it's so far from what i fell in love with. and again before someone says oh then why are you reading it and complaining if it makes you so mad😤😤😡 IM NOT EVEN READING IT. I CHECK THE LEAKS AND I GO YEAH THIS IS STILL JUST FYODOR AND DAZAI NOT DYING. also because i care about the characters and i still want to see how the whole thing is resolved cuz guess what im not gonna just stop reading it after i invested 3 years of my life into it.
anyway yeah. as i said. whagever.
ME TOO.
The thing is that bsd has always been something more than just silly detectives vs port mafia shenanigans, but it managed keep this larger world contained in a way that made sense in the story. For example the book, which is practically a deus ex machina device, still had its place and function in the story - francis wanted it to bring back his daughter, and even the usage of the page to frame the agency was logical.
Even the more high tech stuff like the eyes of god surveillance system was well played - not only did we get a funny ace attorney moment of francis interrupting the courtroom and buying the software, it actually became plot relevant in the cannibalism arc to locate fyodor and early doa arc to find mushitarou. (and francis's death fakeout was actually good, because it wasn't overdone yet, plus we got a nice and fun redemption arc for him)
But then we're suddenly getting a bunch of new ability weapons like fukuchi's sword and prison realm one order and idk. what else have we had. Time manipulating cat lady who was practically used as an off-screen human ability weapon for dazai's convenience and then immediately killed off with no name no dialogue no character #feminism.
All this while it seems like asagiri completely forgot about the part where atsushi is somehow a beacon towards the book, but that isn't too surprising because it feels like asagiri has forgotten about the role and personality and agency of the characters in general. The thing that drew me into bsd in the first place was its sincere focus on the human experience, the way that each chapter and mini arc seemed to have something to say about the overarching themes of finding a reason to keep living and a place to belong. Now i feel like the last time we got to see any of this kind of commentary was with tachihara's arc, or briefly with sigma, but it still feels too shallow.
And like you said there's nothing wrong with a little exploring and a little swaying, in fact i think the whole premise of bsd is that it allows for so much exploration, but to me it feels like the potential that bsd held in the beginning is just not being met anymore. Or rather we're just not heading in the direction we could've been going in.
Atsushi and his implied connection to the book like i mentioned earlier. The order of the clock tower that has been teased since agatha's introduction and some sporadic mentions/implications of its existence since then. Dazai and fyodor's unknown first meeting (this is why i also don't like them killing off fyodor just like that because we still don't know anything about him BUT the way we've ended up in this inexhaustible loop of dazai wins fyodor wins dazai wins fyodor wins i also don't see any way out of it unless one or both of them die so. asagiri just look at what you've done)
idek what i'm trying to say here i'm just really frustrated because i've invested so much of my time in following bsd and it's like as a reader i'm not even getting anything out of it.
anywya read orv for good plot and characters and worldbuilding and literally perfect storytelling and respect for the reader

31/03/2024 Sunday Afternoon
I haven't posted in awhile but I do have some general updates. No real news on the disability front. They did send me a letter that I got over the weekend asking me to confirm my details, but I have to call them on Monday since they got my phone number wrong. Other than that, there really hasn't been any movement. My family is returning home from their vacation without me. I don't mind not going because it means I will get to see my brother. On the other hand, it would have been nice to be able to go somewhere else. I really hate where I live. Speaking of visiting my brother- I almost lost the ability to go. They changed my airline tickets without informing me (good thing I checked!) and I would have missed my connecting flight and been stranded in Amsterdam. To be fair, this would have been on the return flight and not the flight to visit, but if I don't have a return flight set up, I wouldn't be able to go anyway. It took 5 hours on customer support to fix it, because they were trying to tell me my only options were to cancel, to pay $800 to change airports, or to wait and take a new flight 4 days later (I wouldn't have a place to stay in that time). None of which worked for me, but since they were the ones who changed the flight I knew they had to find a fix that actually worked. However, after about 4 hours of back and forth I was ready to give up and take the cancellation- even though that meant I probably wouldn't be able to visit my brother, and it's entirely possible I wouldn't get a second chance. Fortunately the last person I talked to come through for me, and got me a new flight that worked. So I am still able to go, but I have to set up seating yet. I also have to buy a suitcase and new headphones, so that will probably be the main mission for the week. I'm pretty close to finishing Sistersong- I'll post an update on that later. But I haven't really gotten anywhere in Red, White, and Royal Blue since my last update. I ended up reading the first volume of Yuri Espoir (recommended by Ena) instead. While I probably won't finish Sistersong today, I should be through it relatively soon. Originally I was going to pick back up in orv, but I promised my brother I'd be reading Eye of the World on the trip over so I might do that next instead. I haven't quite decided. My aunt will be starting her business up in May so I will likely be helping her out with it again this summer. This mostly just gives me something to do, as I am free labour for her and she doesn't have to pay for a laundromat. But it's not difficult to wash and fold laundry. I haven't been able to finish catching up in my games, but I feel like today has been a little more productive than usual on that front, so I do think I'm getting somewhere. I know the Zenless Zone Zero sign ups have started but honestly I'm not sure if I will play it or not. I have a friend who plays nearly every gacha in existence and whales on them too. They started playing Love and Deep Space recently which seemed neat but upon looking into it really isn't free to play friendly and I can't drop money on gacha like they can. Talking about friends- I have a friend who has feelings for me. I honestly am not mad about it or anything, and I'm not seeing anyone, but I really just think they don't understand me very well. Also like, my feelings around romance and love and sex and everything related are not very clear. I tried to explain this to them, but I think they didn't take it very well, either. I think honestly my feelings on these things could be their own post so I won't go into detail, but it's something that could be an issue in dating someone, so I think it's best to be upfront about that. Also more than just that I'm not sure they understand me as a person very well, I think they rely on what they think about me more than what I actually say, and when I say something that contradicts their thoughts, they just ignore it. Maybe I'll make another post talking about this, or about my feelings about romance.

SILVER LINING // Yoo Joonghyuk, Kim Dokja (ORV)
Left pic: Joonghyuk
Right pic: Dokja
Tumblr media
Pairing: boyfriend for hire!Joonghyuk x client!Dokja
Summary: Dokja caught his boyfriend cheating on him. Heartbroken and pressured by a promise with his friend, Kim Dokja decided to hire a boyfriend to fulfill the promise.
Content: sfw, a bit of nsfw at the beginning
Word count: 2.6k words
For tropetember: 06/09 boyfriends for hire
~~~~~~
“Ah-!”
Sensual moans and gasps filled the room, entangled limbs moved perfectly together. The sounds they’re making could make anyone blush with shame and arousal. A lone figure stood quietly outside the bedroom, silently listening to the intense act. Both parties in the room didn’t sense the figure, passionately continuing their lovemaking. After a few minutes of silence, the figure silently walked towards the front door and left.
~~~~~
“Son of a bitch!” Dokja angrily slammed the cup he’s holding onto the table. His face flushed due to the alcohol and his eyes were teary with some redness at the corner. Dokja depressingly slumped his body on the table and cried out, “I treated him with love and respect but he actually cheated on me?!” Dokja filled his cup with more alcohol and drank it in one clean swoop. He then continued crying, and cursing his ex.
Not able to endure it anymore, Han Sooyoung lightly slapped Dokja’s shoulder while she nagged, “I already told you that guy is no good but you kept persisting saying he loves you.” Dokja paused his cries and looked up. He pouted, “You should be comforting me, not blaming me for my mistakes.” He glared at his best friend. Sooyoung felt a little amused. Glaring at me with his swollen eyes doesn’t look threatening at all. He looks a bit funny instead. Sooyoung shook her head and silently sighed in her heart.
“Get drunk with me, Sooyoung-ah.” Dokja said as he loosely swing his empty cup around while foolishly laughing. Sooyoung stared at him for one good minute before concernedly asked, “So, will you be going to Hyuk’s wedding?” Dokja stopped his movements and stayed silent as he contemplated on how to answer the question. Sooyoung waited but seeing him not saying anything, she finally relented and gave him a card. A business card to be exact. Confused, Dokja held the car before opening his mouth, “What’s this?” The fancy letters ‘Aimer’ printed on the car looked exquisite, confusing Dokja even more. Is this supposed to be my solution? Dokja questioned in his mind.
Sooyoung nodded as if she could read his thoughts, “This can be your solution.” Dokja looked at her in disbelief. Is she drunk? He thought and gave Sooyoung a condescending glance. Sooyoung understood his gaze. She held the urge to smack him and explained, “A friend of mine gave this to me. It’s a service for hiring partners. My friend works there as one of the workers” She paused before continuing, “If you don’t have any solutions, try hiring one as your boyfriend. Well, it’s a one time thing anyways.” Dokja held the card silently before responding, “I’ll consider it.” He then put the card into his pocket.
~~~~~
After bidding farewell to Sooyoung, Dokja went back to his apartment. It was only a little bit after 4pm but the apartment looked cold and desolate as if it’s ownerless. Dokja loosened his tie, walked into his bedroom and tossed his bag at the corner of the room. Not bothering to change his clothes, he then slumped on his bed, making a fwomp sound. He laid there, staring at the dark ceiling of his bedroom. Countless thoughts swarmed his mind.
It’s been a week since he caught his boyfriend cheating. He was heartbroken of course but it’s not like he didn’t expect it. This isn’t the first time it’s happened. Kim Dokja has never had a lasting relationship. They either cheat on him or leave him for a woman. The first few times, he was optimistic but now, he’s losing hope. Am I destined to grow old alone? Dokja sighed heavily. He then remembered his promise to his friend, Hyuk.
Hyuk, one of his few friends in university was getting married. Hyuk knew he was gay and accepted it well, hence Dokja felt comfortable with him. When he told Hyuk he had a boyfriend, Hyuk was very happy and told Dokja to bring his partner to the wedding. Dokja promised him but unfortunately, that cursed of a boyfriend cheated on him.
Dokja harshly rubbed his face. It’s not a big deal to tell Hyuk that he broke up with his partner. But he didn’t want to endure any possible pitying gazes. Being gay in this country isn’t something that is widely accepted. Even though most people are more open and accepting these days, they still have some prejudice about it. To them, having a gay relationship can cause unhappiness due to the challenges. It’s better off to be with a woman they say.
With repeated disappointments of his love life, Dokja felt somewhat pessimistic. He continued staring at the ceiling for a few minutes before moving his hand towards his pocket. The card Sooyoung gave him is in there. He sat up, contemplated for a long while before taking out his phone. He dialed the number written on the card and waited nervously. If after three beeps they don’t pick up, I’ll hang up and forget all about this. Dokja confirmed his resolve.
The call connected on the second beep. A cheery voice came out, “Hello, this is Aimer’s office. What can I help you with?” With mixed feelings of both regret and relief, Dokja nervously replied, “Um yes, I would like to hire a partner, please.”
“Of course, tell us your preferences and we’ll find one for you. We have a wide variety of female partners to choose from. Please also take note that our workers do not provide any sexual services. They are only to accompany you in your life within a limited time frame. If there are any reports that you violate the rules, you will be blacklisted and sued.” The last few sentences were said in a heavy manner.
Dokja was silent for a few seconds before blurting out, “I want a boyfriend.”
“…” The person on the other side was obviously taken aback. They were silent for a few seconds before responding kindly.
“I apologise for my assumption that you needed a female partner. Yes, of course, same sex partners are also available here.”
Dokja let out a sigh of relief in his heart. He then told the other person his preferences and hung up the call. Dokja sat on his bed, staring at the floor before shaking his head and went on to take a shower.
That night, he received an email informing him of the meeting time and date. They also sent him information of his hired boyfriend.
Yoo Joonghyuk… Dokja said silently. He felt that he’s seen Yoo Joonghyuk somewhere. He shook his head to remove nonsense thoughts and confirmed the date and time were aligned with his free time before shutting off his phone. In the midst of falling asleep, Dokja softly muttered, “I hope things will go well…”
~~~~~
Saturday arrived quickly. Dokja wore one of his best outfits for the meet up. It wasn’t too sloppy nor too fancy but it was just right. He then took a bus to the café, the place where he and Joonghyuk will meet. He walked into the café and was immediately greeted with the fresh smell of coffee and pastry. Dokja arrived a few minutes early so he sat at an empty spot near the window. The moment he sat down, the bell on the door chimed, signaling another customer coming in. Dokja looked up and a pair of deep brown eyes meet his gaze.
Dokja was startled and before he knew it, the owner of the eyes walked and stood in front of him. The man in front of him then asked, “Kim Dokja?” Not yet recovering from seeing a very familiar face, Dokja subconsciously nodded. The man then sat in front of him.
The atmosphere was silent between the two of them before Dokja opened his mouth, “Um, Yoo Joonghyuk?”
“Yes” Joonghyuk answered smoothly.
“Oh” They both went silent again.
Dokja was truly surprised. He really didn’t expect the Yoo Joonghyuk he hired as a temporary boyfriend was his university classmate Yoo Joonghyuk. A real shocker indeed. He was curious why Joonghyuk has this job when in his memories, Joonghyuk has always had outstanding grades. Also, isn’t he straight? Dokja pondered. There has never been a rumor that Joonghyuk likes men and he’s very popular with the girls so everyone just assumed he’s straight.
As Dokja was lost in his thoughts, Joonghyuk cleared his throat to get Dokja’s attention. As if knowing what Dokja was thinking, Joonghyuk answered, “The owner is my relative so I occasionally help them.” Dokja nodded in understanding. Just as he was about to speak, he heard Joonghyuk continue in a slightly low tone, “I am also like you.”
“What?” Dokja blurted out. “No, sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude. I was just surprised.” Dokja frantically explained.
Joonghyuk nodded, signaling that he understood. Not sure if it’s because of Joonghyuk confirming he’s gay or something but Dokja felt less nervous. Dokja turned to look at the counter and the long array of pastries. He asked, “Do you want anything?”
“Just a cup of coffee”
“Okay” Dokja stood up and walked to the counter to queue. While waiting for his turn, he felt a bit giddy. It’s a lie if he said he isn’t attracted to Joonghyuk. The man was basically his type. Dokja felt excited at the prospect of dating Joonghyuk. No. Dokja shook his head. What am I thinking? This is only temporary. I’m too easy to fall for someone tsk. Dokja gave himself a self-depreciating smile. After coming back with their order, they started discussing.
“Since the wedding is in 3 days, do you want to get to know each other by hanging out with me? Dokja asked. “It’s just until the wedding day. It’s to make us familiar with each other in order to not blow our cover.”
“Yes, that’s good for both of us.” Joonghyuk nodded.
Dokja smiled, “Then what do you wanna do today?” Joonghyuk glanced at his watch before coming to a decision.
“It’s still early. I’ll take you out to somewhere.”
“Oh, you drive?”
“Yes.”
Dokja was pleasantly surprised. He thought Joonghyuk came to their meeting place with a bus. Well then, don’t mind if I do. Dokja quipped in his heart happily.
~~~~~
Dokja stood in front of his apartment’s door as he watched Joonghyuk’s car leaving the area. It was night and they spent their whole day hanging out. Dokja took a deep breath as he held a stuffed animal that was almost half his size, plastic bags containing various food and some shopping bags. He got into his apartment and walked towards the small kitchen. He placed the food on top of the table and went to his bedroom. The shopping bags were placed on his bed with the stuffed animal included.
After he finished his shower, Dokja laid down and stared at the stuffed animal before tightly hugging it. He felt what he experienced today was unreal. It’s been so long since he felt the excitement of a date. Joonghyuk, during the whole date was amazing. He was so considerate and gentle. Even though he rarely talked, his actions made Dokja’s tummy filled with butterflies.
Dokja squealed silently and rolled a few times on the bed before calming down. Get it together. This is temporary. After the wedding, we’ll separate. He determinedly reminded himself. He felt a bit sad after the reminder but he will still cherished his memories today. He smiled before slowly drifting off to sleep.
~~~~~
Three days passed in a blink of an eye and the wedding day arrived. Dokja nervously check himself in the car to make sure he was decently dressed. After confirming his look on his own, he turned to Joonghyuk beside him.
“How do I look?”
“You look fine.” Joonghyuk paused a few seconds before answering.
“Your answer isn’t convincing at all.” Dokja huffed and glared at Joonghyuk. He then continued checking in the rearview mirror.
“You look as handsome as always.” Joonghyuk was silent before muttering.
“What did you say?” Dokja didn’t hear it clearly as he was still nervously fixing his appearance.
“Nothing.” Joonghyuk turned his head to look outside. After a few minutes, seeing that Dokja still wasn’t done, he urged him. “You look fine. We should go. Your friend is probably waiting for us right now.” He gently patted Dokja’s back, urging him to get out of the car.
“Fine, fine.” Dokja grumbled. He got out and when he saw there were a lot guests, he felt nervous again. He went to Joonghyuk’s side and silently grabbed his arm for support.
Joonghyuk patted Dokja’s hand and walked slowly towards the entrance. They saw Hyuk and his newly wedded wife thanking the guests for coming. Hyuk was facing the entrance venue so he clearly noticed Dokja and Joonghyuk walking towards him and his wife. He was momentarily surprised when he saw Joonghyuk.
“You’re here!” Hyuk exclaimed as he hugged Dokja and patted his back in a friendly manner. Dokja smiled and did the same. Dokja then introduced Joonghyuk to them.
“This is my boyfriend, Yoo Joonghyuk” Dokja smiled, masking his nervousness.
Hyuk and his wife greeted Joonghyuk good-naturedly. Hyuk shook Joonghyuk’s hand and said, “I didn’t expect you both to date.” Hyuk laughed. “Have you guys been dating since university?”
“No, we started dating after both of us graduated.” Dokja answered.
“That’s good, that’s good.” Hyuk smiled.
After the introduction, Dokja, Hyuk and his wife started mingling together, laughing and sharing stories with Joonghyuk occasionally adding in some words. During the whole conversation, Joonghyuk’s hand never left Dokja’s waist. Hyuk and his wife noticed this and smiled. They then excuse themselves, telling Dokja and Joonghyuk to eat to their heart’s content.
They watched as Dokja and Joonghyuk walked away with Joonghyuk still not letting go of Dokja’s waist.
“They’re such a good couple.” The wife sighed admirably. Hyuk nodded in agreement. During the whole conversation, he noticed that every time Dokja talked, Joonghyuk would look at him with a gentle and doting gaze. I don’t think Dokja noticed it though. But that’s alright. It’s good that there’s someone who loves him. Hyuk smiled and went on continue greeting the guests.
~~~~~
Joonghyuk sent Dokja back to his place. He stopped his car in front of the building. Dokja didn’t move to get out of the car and Joonghyuk didn’t urge him. They both sat quietly in the car.
“Hey” After a while, Dokja opened his mouth. He bit his lip nervously and glanced up at Joonghyuk. He wanted to ask something but he didn’t dare to open his mouth. Joonghyuk waited silently. Seeing Dokja still contemplating, Joonghyuk cleared his throat.
“After this… when are you free?” Joonghyuk asked. Dokja abruptly lifted his head, locking eyes with Joonghyuk. Startled, Joonghyuk looked away, his body tense and his jaw clenched.
Dokja stared at him for a few minutes, making Joonghyuk feel more nervous. Joonghyuk was already giving up when a pair of arms softly wrapped around his neck. A light kiss was planted on his cheek. Dumbfounded, Joonghyuk stared blankly at Dokja. Dokja’s face flushed.
“What, you don’t like the kiss?” Dokja huffed, trying to hide his embarrassment. Waking up from his stupor, Joonghyuk gently laughed which made Dokja even more embarrassed. Joonghyuk raised his hand and placed it on Dokja’s cheek. He gently caressed Dokja’s soft cheek with a slight smile decorating his lips.
“How could I ever dislike it?” Joonghyuk said softly.
“Hmph”
They spent a few minutes just gazing each other with Dokja’s arms hugging Joonghyuk’s neck and Joonghyuk gently caressing Dokja’s cheeks. They didn’t know who started first but the distance between them was slowly decreasing. They shared a soft and light fluttery kiss. The kiss wasn’t lusty or steamy. Just a kiss filled with the love they had for each other.
After the kiss, Dokja buried his face in Joonghyuk’s neck, trying to hide flushed face. Joonghyuk chuckled and gently caressed Dokja’s head. They enjoyed each other’s presence for a few more minutes.
“Can I hire you again? The kind that doesn’t have a time limit”
“Yeah, you can.”
•~•~•~•~•~•
It didn’t take long for Jung Heewon to figure out that there was slightly off with Kim Dokja. There had been no defining moment, nothing that had made her brain go hah! That’s an imposter! because she honestly didn’t even know what was off with him. But small details added up: a sudden tolerance for tomatoes, the slight increase in affection towards his companions—not blatant, but less calculated, less reserved—and he was also a little quieter.
It was hard to say that any of those things on their own inherently meant anything. He could’ve just grown used to tomatoes. She didn’t know the extent of his dislike, maybe he didn’t like the way that they were cooked in the past. He was quieter than usual, but she knew that he wasn’t good at making conversation in the first place. Kim Dokja was a man of false bravado, constantly keeping up a front of appearing confident because he had known the future and had been scheming his way to this epilogue that they had painstakingly created. Jung Heewon didn’t know much about that Ways of Survival novel he had read, she wasn’t even the biggest fan of books, but even she could tell how much it had meant to him. That novel probably made up a lot of who he was, so wasn’t it expected for him to be lost when not only had the events changed, but their life had surpassed that novel now?
And as for the slight increase in affection… wasn’t that a good thing? Hadn’t she and all her companions worked so hard, hadn’t they all carved out their hearts from their chests with their swords, grasping their hearts with trembling hands as they smeared it across the invisible wall that separated him and them? Blood, sweat and tears, they kept smearing it, hoping that one day he’d look and see just how much they loved him? Wasn’t this what they were working towards? Getting him to accept it, getting him to stay? Getting him to stay long enough that he could take the kids out on outings to wherever they wanted to, to live out the lives that had been stolen away from them all?
Then why? Why did all of these things leave her so tense, why did they leave her feeling like she had left something so precious behind? That she’d forgotten something?
He was acting off, but he wasn't acting like a completely different person either. It wasn't some imposter impersonating Kim Dokja, because Jung Heewon had been a witness to the various conversations he had with the other companions. He remembered what he had promised Shin Yoosung and Lee Gilyoung, he remembered being teased for being an "ugly squid", and still called Yoo Joonghyuk a "sunfish bastard" (whatever that meant). He remembered all these things. This was definitely, undeniably, Kim Dokja.
So wasn't that enough? Wasn't it enough that he was the same person that she knew? The Kim Dokja obsessed with Ways of Survival, the Kim Dokja reading that story, she had never known him. Was it even possible to miss a person whom you had never known? Was it possible to love them?
It was easier to ignore all those minor details, it was easier to put it all aside because this was her Kim Dokja.
(That can't be right. There was some amount of ignorance she was putting into this. And ignorance had never been a good thing, ignorance had caused so many problems, not by starting it, but had allowed the problem to fester, growing into something uncontrollable. And she'd always hated that; ignorance would never allow for justice, so how could it ever be a good thing?)
Jung Heewon hated this. She hated feeling like this, hated when Kim Dokja kept doing things to make her feel like this. Hated feeling like she couldn’t do the one thing she wanted most—to save Kim Dokja, even though he was right here. Hated this one-step-forward-two-steps-back cycle she seemed to be trapped in.
This epilogue was enough. The Kim Dokja she had with her was enough.
If it wasn’t—
It had to be.
15 and 21 for the ask game?
sorry for getting around to this so late but i think i can sit down and think of answers now hehe
15. 3 quotes that have a special place in your life in no particular order:
"i love you, i'm glad i exist" (the orange by wendy cope) - poem i found in the depths of depression sophomore year. still stays with me a lot. i think of it less often but orange-themed imagery has become a big part of my life now.
"i wanted a life to come out of my life, but instead i was left with my life." (all that wanting, right? by devin kelly) - if you're witnessed me on the dash this week ive been very ill about this poem. i just cant exist without that line echoing in my head ("all that wanting, right?"). but i consider this a hopeful poem so i do recommend it to everyone
ok so this is REALLY digging into 2018 ru, a very different person, but: "the only thing left is for all of us to be happy" (lee sunghoon, of kpop band WINNER). a fan posted their graduation cap with this quote of his decorated on top. i really, really held onto that. a lot of that period of my life was spent with quotes from kpop idols that i used to inspire me and help me hold on.
21. 3 things you are the most passionate about
hmmmm
ORV. haven't loved a piece of media the way i love this one in a long, long time. maybe the closest was my kpop obsessions in 2016-2018. its a story i can dissect with others as much as i want, with characters who can hold onto my most hated aspects for me so that i can, gently, understand myself through them. or at least lessen the weight by projecting onto them.
art.. in a way. if anyone ever says they feel ashamed of their art ill be the first to preach about how the whole point is to create and all humans were built to create. there's no good or bad art, there's just the art you made for yourself, that no one else could do. so i have a lot of passion for the general human tendency towards creation and love and art.
humanity. cave paintings of bears and hands on walls. a little child hoisted on an adult's shoulders to make a drawing. ancient toys. a healed femur. yknow?
You’ve written over 300 pages??? Wow page to word count takes a while to get used to.
Anyway, I really like your story, and I was wondering what specific themes in orv are your favorite? And what themes are you trying to incorporate in your story? Feel free to ramble about plot devices, character relationships, and such :)
Tumblr media
god it really do be like that huh
yeah, that's from my whole fic doc so it only has completed scenes and then the outlines of future chapters with those benchmarks i mentioned... wow ok i don't want to think about how long its taken me to write this stuff okay whew.
ORV! THEMES! I've been kind of a big Shounen Anime guy since I was a tween so obviously one of the big themes that stand out to me with ORV is the People Save Each Other theme like love that shit <3 I especially love how they take this really common trope of "Hero has to sacrifice himself for the greater good" and then take it to this extreme that's both satirical and emotionally impactful. My MOST LOATHED kind of narrative about suicide is the kind of Tale of Two Cities Sydney Carlton Schtick where it's portrayed as if a suicidal character made the Morally Correct Choice in sacrificing themselves... I love how ORV specifically goes "Hey dude. Enough with the sacrificing already. You're part of a self perpetuating cycle of trauma..." It's also just soooo fabulous about keeping this consistent world logic with its metanarrative based on the idea of narratives and storytelling... like everything just clicks together and makes sense because KDJ is the most powerful being in the world and everything he believes is True about the world is True and because he doesn't Believe that he deserves a happy ending with everyone else he subconciously makes it so that the world doesn't let him have it.. and then his friends meet him on that level and slowly have to convince him otherwise.. .t hrogh the power of stories... sniffle... sob...
This idea of "people can save you," that love is powerful because we let it be... that it worms its way into our hearts and then just... fundamentally changes us and our world along the way... MWAH. it's like, heehee, *twirls hair* what if that theme were applied to a storyline with the expectation of Gay Romance?? thats what I write about lmaoo.
Also just like... A lot of Plot and Misunderstandings are taken right from ORV just because I think they're funny and its like okay Reader, time for your scheduled Remember That One Thing That Happened In ORV? and commenters are like Yes Jay. and point out to me things that are similar to the novel and ask me if it was intentional and its like yes beloved that is correct.
But then I'll adjust them to be about the Themes that I want to focus on and then also I turn up the LGBTQ like 69%... And obviously the arrangement of the plot is very character oriented, where I ask you to follow along on individual characters' development with KDJ to the status quo in flashbacks and give them specific focus instead of just having them stay in the present Adressing The Plot at all times... that way we can all just sit around and gossip about that character all in one place before the plot scoops them up... I've had commenters tell me I was boring for orienting things this way, but sorry if you didn't come here for my exposition about Han Sooyoung adjusting to corporate life You Can Leave.
