It seems we need to have a little chat about theater etiquette, especially concerning "notes"
You do not say a singular bad word about the show until you are in the car on your way home in private. If you're taking public transportation, not until you get home. Not a word.
I wrote little notes (a thing i do as a form of my appreciation for the arts to ensure i keep my full attention on the show and dont zone out. I rarely share them with anyone) during an intermission for a show I saw with my friend at this really small playhouse and he leaned over and read (very loudly) "why did you put *something critical about the opening number*" like DUDE THAT ACTOR'S MOM COULD BE SITTING IN FRONT OF YOU??? DON'T SAY SHIT WHEN YOU DONT KNOW WHOS GONNA HEAR IT
Even if the people around you don't know the cast/crew personally, they could have really enjoyed it. Say you thought an actor was pitchy and you said that out loud during intermission or after the show (God forbid you say it during the show) and the person next to you thought it was incredible. You're now diminishing that person's experience and making them feel stupid for thinking it was good. Their whole night at the show is now devalued because you said something bad and changed their perspective.
And these same people are going to be out in the lobby, by the doors, in the parking lot, taking the same bus as you, walking part of your route, going to the same restaurant... hold your tongue until you're somewhere completely private. It's just respectful.

Regarding the Death Note Musical news, @dillyfirestarter brings up a valid point about not actually illegally recording the London show (link to post, please DON’T harass the original poster PLEASE). It is incredibly rude to do that, and honestly makes us look really bad as a fandom. Hell, it could even discourage the production from traveling (I don’t know if that’s a real consequence, but it’s a very scary thought to me). With any luck, they’ll make an official recording like the Japanese productions did, but I honestly don’t have high hopes. I mainly reblogged that “please illegally record the show” post to jokingly express my despair at not being able to see it myself. *still dying from Death Note nerd despair*. I apologize for even indirectly encouraging it. *bows contritely*
To the people who are lucky enough to go to this fucking amazing event, have a blast and don’t be an obnoxious pest! Don’t ruin it for anyone else please, even if you think you’re doing us a favor. If this is successful enough, it could eventually travel to more and more accessible places! I want this thing to make money! I’ve been in this fandom for almost 20 years. I can be patient. 😅
*prays fervently that they at least release an official CD please please please I want this thing PLAYING IN MY CAR*

Holy shit. I saw evil dead the musical tn (it was mid) and fucking boomers. Boomers behind me howled with laughter at any hint of a joke or reference. Boomers behind me sang along. Boomers behind me wooped mid song and were clapping off beat. At a musical. At a live musical!!!!!!! How have these old hags never been in a theater before I wanted to throttle them with my bare hands. And I would have been the bitch if I said anything 🙄 I would have said it in a bitchy way but still

There is a special hell for people who record or take pictures in the movie theater. Monthly reminder that piracy is illegal.

So the other day my boyfriend and I had this discussion:
Me: You know what I was thinking? If Ambraham Lincoln was really tall, why did he also wear a really tall hat? That seems a little excessive...
Him: maybe that's why he got shot in that theater

Do people not know movie theater etiquette anymore?
Genuinely I think there's a large portion of people who don't and it's not necessarily their fault. With streaming becoming so huge and some movies being available for streaming right away due to covid, I think a lot of people haven't been to the theater in years.
Then the Barbie movie happend and built the entire promotion campaign of Oppenheimer and suddenly everyone was going to the theater again, which is great!
But I'm noticing a lot of people who don't know how to behave. There are some people who dont even understand reserving seats which makes sense. I'm the history of movie theaters, that's a relatively new practice. But I'm talking more basic behavior. Since I'm a movie fiend, here are some basic guidelines based on things I've actually been seeing irl in theaters.
Movie theater dos and don'ts:
1. Do not go on your phone. It is genuinely distracting and takes people out of the movie.
2. Do not leave your phone on vibrate. Leaving your ringer off is obvious but vibrate is just as bad. Especially if there's a quiet moment. People will hear that shit.
3. Do not leave your phone in a cup holder. Even if it's on silent, it will light up at notifications which is distracting.
4. Do not talk the entire time. An occasional whisper is ok, but a full conversation that has nothing to do with the movie is a big no.
5. DO NOT TALK ALONG WITH THE MOVIE. This happend to me last night and the wound is still fresh. Do not speak lines along with the movie at full volume. Whispering is ok, but white 30 year olds think it's acceptable to fucking yell lines of movie and they never time it right and it's distracting and rude. Do that at home or go to the Alamo Draft House (they literally have talk along screenings).
6. Do no kick the chair in front of you. When I saw Bottoms, the person behind me kicked my seat every time there was a joke and I almost killed them. Sometimes you shift around and can't help it, but try not to.
7. Be aware of your general surroundings. I think people (especially Americans) find it hard to understand that they aren't the main character. You are in a room of like 30 people at least who all want to enjoy this experience. You have to understand that and be courteous. Movie theaters are a communal experience. Enjoy that aspect, but don't ruin it for everyone.
8. If you are asked to select a seat when you purchase your ticket, then sit in the seat you pick. Your ticket says the row and seat number. It's awkward to ask someone to move and it causes confusion. Sit in the seat you picked.
It can be hard to read the room in a theater. Sometimes it's a quiet showing. Something everyone just collectively agrees to cheer and clap etc. It's best to stick to these guidelines until you get the vibe of the room.

Hi! Thanks for that followup post, I hate to play grumpy adult online but I'm terrified the teens will actually take this all as serious peer pressure.
However there may very well be a CD! I've not heard news of it yet, but every musical I've ever been to has released an Original Cast Recording to sell at either their premiere or at their second run
If there's one on sale at the theatre (assuming that it's not for sale online before then) would you like me to buy one at the door and post it to you? I'd be happy to do so if you want it!
*screams in excitement* YES if that’s at all possible and no bother for you! Thank you so much for offering!!! *hugs you*
Hey, someone has to be the adult in the room, and I think you’re completely in the right for doing so. Slapped some sense into me at any rate about the implications of that post, lol. Yeah, I really hope that no one actually takes that “please record the show” thing seriously and ruin the experience for someone else (or for ALL of us if they crack down on it hard). Unfortunately, I’m sure someone will inevitably try to, and hopefully it’s not too disruptive. I hope you have fun there, you lucky lucky person~. 😄

my brain decided in honor of the fnaf movie releasing today that I was gonna dream that I was in a theater watching a fnaf film that was part of a new peepaw scheme. we were trapped inside getting killed off one by one and people outside kept thinking the sounds of it were the movie, so we wouldn't get help. which sounds gruesome and scary. until a girl and I started singing chasing cars to lift everyone's spirits
