Exceptional emotive work by Rhys Darby. You can see the emotions shift. The excitement (and the fun, because Stede does like doing this) of the escape moving towards the memory of where he is and where Ed is and what he needs to do. The tears in his eyes that he doesn't let go on deck but holds until he's next to Ed's body. The break in his expression when Izzy tries to thank him, that little surge of anger as he turns to go below deck. It's a single, fairly static shot, which means that it all depends on the emotions on his face.
Tumblr media
Something this show does exceptionally well is managing that shift between comedy and more serious emotions - yes, Stede is a silly little guy, and he's also a guy with a deep well of love and pain and hope. He will make an ass of himself by belly-flopping into the ocean and he will save his crew because he loves them and he will hold his emotions in check until he can sit by Ed and grieve alone. There's a great fluidity to his characterization - he's the guy who came up with a fake death scenario involving a fight with a leopard and a piano, and the guy who wrote a thousand love letters and threw them into the sea, and the guy who will shove Blackbeard up against the wall for the purposes of hot gay sex*.
All of that works because the show doesn't treat him as an object of derision or like he has to prove anything or change himself to be loved or treated right. He changes, but he changes organically and neither in the writing nor in Darby's performance does he lose his earnestness and his whimsy and his silliness. In fact, the show clearly indicates that that's what endears him to the crew and why Ed fell in love with him in the first place. But he does feel, and he feels deeply.
It's a very hard needle to thread, both in terms of writing and in terms of directing and performance, but dang they pull it off.

FLASH * CLICK * FLASH * CLICK
It’s blinding, even with the late afternoon sun perched high above Hollywood Boulevard.
The theater, El Capitan, its signage bold and ornate give the movie house its old Hollywood charm, welcoming those in attendance to the star studded movie premiere.
There are so many people, stacks and stacks of bodies with cameras and flashes barricaded behind a wall of bigger cameras with more people holding microphones— masquerading as a friend-next-door the moment the camera rolls, dropping the facade the second the interview is over.
Dieter is grateful the minute you both step out of the car that you had agreed to attend the event with him, having you by his side to ground him, not knowing what feelings or emotions this movie celebration would evoke— but having you as his plus one, as fans and paparazzi wailed and cheered for him after being away from the spotlight for close to 3 years—made it feel less paralyzing.
FLASH * CLICK * FLASH * CLICK
It’s a precise balance of excitement and jitters, mixing and swirling a heady cocktail of emotions, nerves tickling at the surface— but the dizzying sensation settles, not dissolved but thinned and manageable the minute his voice hits the chaotic noise filled air.
“You good?” A steady hand settling on the small of your back, his words a whispered question only meant for you, knowing how overwhelming this whole scene can be, even for someone who has been in the business for as long as he has.
“Yeah, I’m good— it’s just a lot to take in. I don’t know how you do this regularly?” A hint of a nervous crack in your voice.
“Honestly, I have no clue— my memory of them is a bit hazy— I do know though, having you here makes it seem less terrifying, so thank you for coming. If it’s too much, you can skip it? I can do my obligations and meet you on the other side?” His thumb draws comforting circles to the opening where your dress reveals your bare skin.
“N-no— I can manage, I’m sure once we get moving it will be fine. Would rather stick with you anyway.” Your teeth gnawing at your lower lip, keeping your focus on him only, as you both wait for the line for actors, producers and directors before you to continue down the strip of red plush carpet.
“Have I told you how hot you look in this dress?” He asks against the shell of your ear, a feather light kiss to the juncture of your jaw before pulling back to fix his gaze back on yours.
It's a simple cut, tailor made to your figure. It’s champagne in color with delicate wide straps draped down the curve of your breasts, the satin fabric flowing down the length of your body, the low-cut exposing your back and a romantic train pooling around the ground as you stand.
“Hmm, I think beautiful, sexy, gorgeous were a few of the terms you used since I slipped into it— I’ll add hot to the list— Thank you. You don’t look so bad yourself, Handsome.”
His double breasted all white suit fit him so well, his white button down lacking the buttoning of the top few buttons, emphasizing the taut lines of his gorgeous neck.
“Alright Mr. Bravo, right this way. You’re going to stop on the designated tape marks briefly, let them get their shot, then make your way to the interviewers and there will also be some fans at the end of the carpet before making your way inside.”
The sweet young lady assigned to Dieter for the evening debriefed the two of you as you prepared to step out into the sea of flashing madness. Putting you both front and center to the onslaught of yelling and demanding requests from photographers, ensuring they get the angle and shot that their Big-Name-Magazine-Boss will plaster across glossy pages accompanied in tiny print ‘shot by’ next to their name.
“You ready for this?” Dieter asks, almost as if he’s giving you one more chance to bail.
“No, but lead the way Mr. Bravo.” A kiss for good luck to his cheek as he removes his hand from your back, interlocking your fingers together followed by a few squeezes as he starts to guide you to the first stop on the carpet.
“DIETER! TO YOUR RIGHT!”
“MR. BRAVO! DIETER— RIGHT HERE!”
“DIETER!”
“DIETER!”
“DIETER!”
Dieter’s confident and casual demeanor is charming, standing off to the side as he gets his photo taken, watching him as he does his dutiful requirements as the leading actor at his movie’s premiere.
You study his profile, angular and captivating, his demure half smile on display as he does his best to look in every direction is name is being called to, the way his chestnut locks look lived in and controlled at the same time,  his overwhelming beauty is doing wonders to keep your nervous thoughts at bay— selfishly eager to get him home to have him all to yourself.
As the line moves, Dieter keeps you close, your body angled in towards him at the next stop, an arm wrapped low around your waist. Your noses nearly touch when he looks over to you, a silent check in and an excuse to give his eyes a break from the bright bursts of light— honestly any reason to look in your direction.
“Poppy, babe— I think they want your attention.” His husky voice breaks through the riotous hollering, his head tilting in the direction of where the ‘Miss, this way please!’ is being called out.
You manage to tear your gaze away from Dieter, no real idea where to look or who to focus on, giving your best not super forced almost toothy grin, taking a few breaks to focus back on Dieter then looking back out to the wall of intense flickers— Dieter’s constant need for his sunglasses making total sense now.
It’s near the end of the carpet, where the interviewing line begins. Reporters asking their stream of questions— some related to the movie, others more personal. But all fairly tame and revolving around the shooting of the movie, wanting to know more about how Dieter worked to bring his character to life and if his sobriety was hard to manage at any point in time during filming.
The focus directly on Dieter, letting you ride through the interview process with a front row seat.
“Dieter, this is not a role we’ve seen from you before— it’s new and refreshing I would think. How different was it from your usual rogue characters, to play this soft romantic heartthrob?” The interviewer asks, utilizing her time with many substantial questions.
“Soft romantic heartthrob? You’re feeding my ego right— give me more! It is very new and refreshing, like you said. But also kind of intimidating, since I’m usually playing some asshole— oops— Sorry! Um, some jerk in most of my roles, which kind of seemed like second nature for me at a point in my career. To then jump into this role, it felt foreign and scary when we started shooting— but I found a rhythm and I’m really happy with how it worked with the rest of the cast.”
It’s ‘nice meeting you’ or ‘great talking to you again’ before progressing further down the carpet, to the next round of questions.
“Dieter, congratulations on being almost 3 years sober now! That must be an incredible feeling? Did you find it hard to jump into this movie all while trying to manage your sobriety?” The next interviewer asks.
“Thank you, that’s kind of you to say. It’s definitely an indescribable feeling, but I’m grateful for it everyday.” He gives your hip a light squeeze as he says it. “Sure, it was hard at times— not because of temptation or anything, but because I wanted to be fully present and show the entire team that I wasn’t going to let them down, it’s just something I actively work on daily now. But coming  into this movie in a new head space,  I was determined to hold myself accountable, making sure I was checking in with everyone too was a big thing for me. Plus, it didn’t hurt to have this gorgeous woman in my corner— I was grateful I got to come home to her every weekend, reset before the new work week.”
It’s the first he’s mentioned you out of all the answers he’s given so far— mostly sticking to directly related to the topic and movie. Your relationship is no big secret in your small town, but this is the first the two of you have attended something of this magnitude as a couple, even after being together for 2 years.
You’re not going to lie though, it makes you melt when he looks at you as he says it, awarding you with his lopsided smile and a wink before redirecting his attention back to the reporter.
“Miss, what do you think was the contributing factor in helping Dieter stay on track for this role.” The microphone pointed at your face as the interviewer looked to you for a response.
“Umm, I don’t think it was anything I did in particular— Dieter was the one who made all of this happen, I was just there making sure he knew how amazing he was doing through it all— and supported him however he needed me. All of his success is because of him, I can’t take credit for any of that.”
The reporter seems satisfied, thanking you for answering it honestly.
“You better hang on to her, Dieter. I think you’ve got yourself a keeper with this one!” Trying to strum up some playful banter as the interviewer comes to a close.
“Yeah, I wouldn’t dream of letting her go.” No care to the cameras or anyone around you, as he softly presses a quick peck to your lips— once, twice, three times just because he can.
“Thank you for your time, Dieter. Enjoy yourselves tonight.” A hand shake to both you and Dieter, sending you off with a grateful smile for chatting with her.
Each interview had similar questions to previous ones he had already done, but he did his best to give each of them original responses.
One last interview, a major publication, waiting patiently as you both approach their little assigned space. They’re kind with their questions, which has been a relief for him the entire evening to not be bombarded with any humiliating or embarrassing comments.
“What does Dieter Bravo do in his spare time now? You’re no longer living in LA, any plans to move back?” A string of new questions are asked to finish off this interview.
“We own a gallery back in my hometown where I’ve been staying since officially leaving LA, still looking for a permanent place though.”
“He owns the gallery— I just help run it when he’s off doing his movie star things.” You interject, correcting his statement in a playful manner.
“Says the woman the gallery is named after. I call her Poppy— Les Coquelicots is poppy in French, also after one of my favorite Monet paintings, so in a weird roundabout way, she does own it— don’t tell her I put her name on the paperwork, so she owns more than she thinks she does.” The last part isn’t a secret because you signed the paperwork, but he loves using the line wherever he can, so you play shocked and laugh right along with him.
“Are you able to find time to utilize the gallery for yourself? Will we be seeing any art made by the hands of Dieter Bravo?”
“I’ve been working on some things— I won’t say what, don’t want to spoil anything, but there may be something in the works that will be debuted soon-ish.”
The report congratulates Dieter on his new movie and wishes him the best.
“That wasn’t so bad. Plus, it was fun listening to you answer all those questions.”
“I knew you’d enjoy yourself.” Pulling you close to his side as you make your way through the crowd that’s formed at the end of the carpet— agents, assistants, significant others who chose to forgo the carpet entirely, all waiting for the person they came with to finish.
The assistant from earlier, meets up with you and points to a small group of fans who are all waiting for a chance to meet the stars before they head into the theater.
You stand back and watch him interact with each of them. Signing magazine and movie posters, pausing for selfies and listening to each of them tell him how proud they are and how excited they are to watch their favorite actor perform in a new film.
It warms your heart to see him showered with love the entire time.
“Mr. Bravo, you're going to head in through these doors and there will be someone to help you to your seats.” The sweet young lady guides you both to the main lobby of the theater,  indicating the direction of the main entrance to where the movie will be shown.
“Actually, can you point us to a side exit— our driver should be waiting for us outside.” Scanning the space for any potential exits that would be easy to slip out unnoticed.
“Sir, the movie hasn’t started yet— I’m not sure leaving is the best idea. I can have someone come get you and walk you to your seats, the movie should be starting shortly.” The young woman is flustered by Dieter’s attempt to leave early, but just trying to do her job.
“No offense, but I don’t watch my own shit— you never watch your own shit. You just wipe, flush and move on. I know you’re just doing what you’re told, but if you’ll kindly point out an exit, we’re gonna head home.”
*
The constant low humming of the car's engine and the way Dieter’s fingers aimlessly map out shapes over your thigh, head resting on his shoulder you’re tucked in close to his warmth in the small back seat, enough to lull you to sleep on the hour and a half drive back home.
“Hey, Poppy— we’re home.” Dieter murmurs softly as he kisses the top of your head.
“Hmm?” Lifting your head, dazed as you look out the windows to see the car is parked in your driveway.
“We’re home. Let’s get you inside.”
Dieter offers the driver a tip and thanks him for the ride, then grabs for your discarded shoes and your small purse as he slips out of the backseat, hand extended out to you as you follow suit.
“Oh, shit!” It’s a slight stumble out of the car when your feet hit the cool concrete, falling into Dieter’s awaiting arms, steadying your sleepy frame against his until you're upright and balanced.
“Thank you.” Voice raspy with sleep, but cognizant enough to give him lingering kiss, a buzz of desire fully awakens you when Dieter deepens the kiss.
“Mmm, why don’t we take this inside? I think your neighbors have had enough of us at this point.” He mumbles against your eager lips.
“Meet you inside then.” You purr with one last kiss, before you pull up the hem of your trailing dress and head towards the front door, peeking over your shoulder, bottom lip playfully drawn between your teeth as you wink back at him, still standing in the driveway.
Shaking his head and laughing, your purse and shoes still in his grip, he follows your lead into the house.
Dieter’s barely made it over the threshold, closing the door when he feels his body being pressed up against the wooden door, your belongings falling to the hardwood floors with a heavy thud.
Your mouth moves against his with a fiery want, Dieter falling into the motions seamlessly, his hands gripping at your hips pulling you as close as possible. It’s a dance of angles as your tongue dominates his, exploring as you lick feverishly into his mouth.
Abruptly, you drop to your knees below him, his eyes blown and he tries to catch his breath.
“Pop— Poppy…”
His sentence cut off by the sound of his zipper sliding down, rustling of his pants and boxers being pulled to his knees, his cock half hard at just the mere sight of you.
The press of your lips and tongue against his hip bone is enough to make him fall to the floor, the drag of your upper lip across his skin, breath heated and stirring as you place another to his lower abdomen, wiry hairs tickle at your lower lip— then mirroring the same effort to his other hip.
“Fuck! Poppy— shit!” His length is hard and throbbing, his mind trying to focus on the way you’re licking the pre-cum as it weeps from the head of his cock, a thick haze of arousal clouding his mind.
He moans— fucking moans as you take fully in your mouth, his head falling back against the door, a staticy sensation building at the base of his spine at the way he’s repeatedly hitting the back of your throat.
There’s a lot he wants to say, tell you how perfect you feel around him, how much he loves the way your hands roam about touching every little bit of him as you bring him closer and closer to the peak of his delirium.
His breath ragged between lovesick whimpers, body tensing in preparation, a slow hum of satisfaction as you continue to move up and down his length— hand gripping tightly at the base of his shaft igniting a hungered fuse.
“Pop— Fuck! Poppy, I’m gonna— fuckfuckfuckfuck! Babe, I’m gonna come!”
There’s stars, fireworks, bursts of light. Fists slamming into the door.
His spend hits the back of your throat, managing to take all of it as he continues to come.
Warm. Salty. Perfectly him.
Licking your lips, satisfied with your work, working his suit pants back up, fastening the button as you stand to your full height.
Butterflies erupt in your stomach, pressing a soft kiss to the underside of his jaw then to his neck, his pulse rapid against your lips, you pull back to take in Dieter’s blissed out state.
“Th-that was unexpected— holy fuck! I just— w-when you— I don’t even know, my brain is mush now.” There’s a rasp to his voice as he tries his best to properly form words, pinched brows and  breathless as his lungs desperately fill with air.
“Just wanted to make sure you know how amazing I think you are— watching you tonight, seeing how much you love being in your element— I’m really proud of you, I think everyone else is too.”
“Fuck, I love you so much Poppy.”
He tastes remnants of himself on your tongue, and if he hadn’t just come down your throat minutes ago he would definitely be hard and ready again for you.
Instead he takes his time just kissing you, pouring every ounce of love and affection he has for you into it, your dress bunching and pulling as his hands anchor your body to his, kneading the swell of your backside— your presence is overwhelming and not enough at the same time.
There’s a low grumble that cuts into two of you making out, still situated in the front entry of your home.
“I love you, Dieter. But I think I need something with a little more sustenance, though. I’m gonna run to the bathroom real quick, then I’ll pull something out to reheat.” Taking a few steps back from him, wiping the corners of your mouth with the back of your hand and adjusting the strap of your dress.
“Dessert before dinner kind of woman, I like it.” A throwback to your first date.
“Mmm, you should know me better by now— I’m a dessert anytime kind of woman.” You smirked, mindful of your dress with each slow step backward.
Dieter pushes off the door, closing the space between you, his mouth molding perfectly over yours, unhurried and attentive.
“Hurry your sexy self back here.” He murmurs into the last kiss, swatting playfully at your ass before you turn and head towards the bathroom.
*
A soft ballad drifts through the house as you make your way back to the main living area, the flicker of light emanating from your studio lets you know where Dieter is.
“Do you want leftover pizza or some of that pasta?” You call out to him, cold air hitting you as the doors to the refrigerator open.
“Dieter?”
You pull the containers from the fridge and set them on the island counter, both options sounding like a great idea the more you think about it.
When you get to the doorway of your studio, you find Dieter sitting, his brush moving with intent over  one of his finished paintings, still finding reasons to add to it.
Arms crossed over your chest, heading resting into the wooden frame as you lean into the doorway, taking in the picturesque scene before you.
Recounting the moments over the last 2 years that led you to now.
How every waking minute you want to be consumed by Dieter in some way, he nestles into every single thought or emotion you experience, always able to bring a smile to your face.
Up until this point, love was the downfall for many of your relationships, loving too much or not enough, a hindrance to your own happiness.
But with Dieter, there’s a deeper purpose, a greater feeling of being loved and respected.
His effervescent spirit radiates from his soul, embedding himself into every corner of your heart.
He’s a tidal wave of intensity, pulling you under and filling your lungs to their fullest capacity, you drown in him, never wanting to surface again.
You’re grateful for his existence, for barreling into your life at full speed and for loving you with a passion you never knew before him.
Dieter is your home.
“That one is my favorite.” You state, moving into the room closer to where he is.
“Hmm, I think you’re just saying that.”
“Could be— or it could be the truth.” Your fingers carding through his curls as you stand behind him, admiring each brush stroke and line he created. “I know you don’t think you are, but you’re more than ready— they’re all so beautiful and I’m so lucky to have been witness to you painting each one of them.”
Dieter’s first art opening was next week, but he still found himself second guessing every little detail in each painting— his self criticism lashing out as the days grew closer.
Silhouettes, every curve and crook shaded and painted in a manner reminiscent of your naked form, not recognizable to anyone but Dieter and yourself. Heads replaced with elaborate bouquets of poppies in washes of pinks, oranges and reds.
“Okay— they’re done.” He says, placing his brush in the jar of stained water.
He swivels to face you, his hands resting on your satin covered hips, three brief squeezes— I love you.
You brush a loose curl off of his forehead, fingers trailing down his face, light scratches to his patchy beard he so proudly grew out.
“So, you said you’re still looking for a place?” A cheeky smile forms on your face, looking down at where he’s still sitting.
“I did, didn’t I?” There's a hint of sarcasm as he says it, the corners of his mouth starting to quirk up.
“Mhmm— is staying on my couch getting too boring for Mr. Movie Star Dieter?” Your head tilts to the side in question, knowing well that in the last two years he hasn’t slept a minute on your couch— save for his afternoon naps.
He stands, pulling you into his chest, eyes gleaming with an unexplainable excitement as he looks at you.
“Nah, I love your couch.” He reaches into the pocket of his pants to grab for something.
“So much so, I think I want to stay on it permanently— if that’s okay with you?” He asks, holding up a shiny object in front of you.
A gold ring with a 3 carat, princess cut green emerald stone, flanked by two smaller diamonds. It’s ridiculously flashy, looking  exactly like something Dieter would pick out—  and you’re so taken aback by how perfect it is.
You’re shocked, speechless, in complete awe of what he’s asking you right now, without even outright asking.
“You want to marry me, Dieter?” Your eyes glistening in the candle light, a few tears managing to slip down the slope of your cheeks.
He slips the ring onto your bare finger.
“Baby, I want you to be mine forever. Marry me, Poppy?”
Both your worlds, so beautifully different but painted together so well.
“Yes! Forever— yes!”
There’s tears and laughter, between shared feelings and drawn out slow kisses, text to friends and family sharing the exciting news.
“Thank you, Dieter. I’m so glad I gave your best a chance.”

Cosmic Legacy Challenge for TS3
Oh wow, its my third challenge. Anyway, I was looking for new challenges and wondered why no one has made a planet themed challenge for TS3 (there's a lot for TS4). So I decided to make one.
Cosmic Legacy Challenge is a 11 gen challenge that includes the sun, planets, the moon, and Pluto because I wanted Pluto so therefore, its spaced theme. Each generation is based off a mix of astronomy, astrology, and greek/roman mythology. Some of the goals in certain generations require your sim crying/drama and if that’s your playstyle that’s cool but heads up if it isn’t. So if you enjoy space, space themed adventures, or a bit of drama from time to time in your legacies, this might be for you.
Tag: “cosmic legacy challenge” or “@” me
Tumblr media
Credit:
Like to thank NASA, astrology sites, and greek/roman mythological sites for supporting the research of this challenge as well as the sims wikia.
Rules:
You don’t have to use all of the traits, just 2-3 required
You can move onto the next generation when all of the goals are met or when the next heir ages to a YA
If you don’t have a certain expansion pack that is related to a goal, skip it or do an alternative goal that fits.
Have fun
1. ☼Sun:
Aah! A star is born! Where would we be without the center of our universe! Everything revolves around you and people are dependent on you to perform or else we would all die. Not trying to be dramatic here but you’re hitting your prime and before you know it, you’ll blow out and fade away into existence, destroying everything you worked so hard to gain. After all, where would you be without yourself?
Traits: Natural Born Performer, Star Quality, Dramatic, Charismatic, Loves the Heat
Goals:
Master the Charisma skill
Work in an Entertainment career (ie - Actor, Director, Singer, Acrobat, Magician)
Become a 5 star celebrity
Don’t spend time with your family, spend more time with your rich celebrity friends
Fall from grace - get into 3 scandals that ruin your reputation.
2 . ☿ Mercury:
The fastest yet tiniest, you’ve always had a front row seat to your parent’s stardom. But being in your parent’s shadow is never a fun place to be and it’s causing you to be as cold as you are hot. You tend to think rationally when making decisions and focus on communicating ideas to others so they can see the bigger picture in life. But while they’re distracted, your hand might find itself in their wallet. Ideas need funding too you know.
Traits:  Kleptomaniac, Schmoozer, Natural Businessman, Genius, Perceptive
Goals:
Master the Logic and Social Networking skills
Steal 3 items a day
Work in the Journalism career
Own 3 cars that are worth over 25,000
Visit your friends/neighbors at least once a week
3. ♀Venus:
With a taste of your lips, I'm on a ride You're toxic. That’s right Venus, you’re the hottest and most toxic planet of the bunch. You tend to shine the brightest as well as go a different direction than those around you. You have an idealized version of love that will come with the most expensive vacations, a big house, and someone who is going to spoil and love you with no complaints. But are you willing to go through the jumps and hurdles to find your happily ever after?
Traits: Snob, Savvy Sculptor, Hot-headed, Hopeless Romantic, Inappropriate

Have a mirror in every room of your house
4. ♁Earth:
While your parents may have their head in the clouds, you don’t mind being bit a more down to Earth. You care for the environment and all living things and want to ensure that you take the actions to maintain it. You’re curious and wonder about what’s out there as you’ve always had to examine life through a lens. But it’s time to get back out there and explore the depths and wonders the world has to offer you. For you were responsible with its care, it’s time to honor that stewardship.
Traits: Loves the Outdoors, Eco-friendly, Animal Lover, Gatherer, Vegetarian.

Master the Science and Handiness skill
Marry an alien

5. ☾Moon:
You’re someone who is always close to those you care about. Like a small beacon, you are always there to light up the night and uplift those around you. But your light comes in stages and sometimes your dark side shows up more than you want it too. But just because you can get a little emotional sometimes or plan a bank robbery every once in a while, does not mean you are unfit to take care of your family. Sometimes, being bad does pay the bills.
Traits: Family Oriented, Nurturing, Over Emotional, Natural Cook, Evil
Goals:
Master the Cooking skill
Have 5 children
Get to the top of the Criminal career as a thief or evil leader.
Be best friends with all of your children and teach them all of their skills.

6 ♂Mars:
For someone who used to be so full of life, you’re now  just bitter and cold. It doesn’t stop you from being a person of action and it also doesn’t stop people from wanting to be your friend (since they won’t stop coming over to your house). While your anger can hurt those close to you, it also provides a way for you to keep your boundaries respected and your inner world at peace. So for some much needed self care, please go to the spa or eat a Snickers.
Traits:Mean-spirited, Athletic, Ambitious, Brave, Grumpy
Goals:
Master the Athletic skill
Woohoo with 10 different sims in 10 different places
Reach the top of the military or athletic career
Have a set of twins (can have more children than that)
Have more enemies than friends
Learn how to cook your favorite meal
7. ♃ Jupiter:
Dang you’re massive but that’s what makes you a great leader. Your presence is intensely large and it allows others to see your greatness as well as draw them into you. But while you are a storm to be feared, you don’t exactly have the best foundation within yourself. That’s why you have taken upon yourself to expand your inner world and focus on becoming the best version of yourself. But while you’ve always believed you are a good person, don’t forget that you are also flawed and susceptible to making mistakes just like the rest of us.
Traits: Commitment Issues, Adventurous, Lucky, Flirty, Good
Goals:
Obtain 2 degrees from university
Be best friends with your sibling(s)
Have 3 affairs when you’re married
Donate to charity once a week

London Adventure
Joseph Quinn & female y/n
Tumblr media
Summary: Joseph and you have your second date at the Skygarden in London after what happened the night before…
Warnings: 18+ , slow burn and fluffy, it gets spicy soon!!
Part 4
Was that really your first kiss? Your first real date ended with your first kiss like this? The train arrived. You got in and immediately watched out for a seat. It was hard to stand, your legs were shaking. You caught yourself subtly licking over your lips. It tasted different than usual, like a mix of the burrito you had and the drink you ordered a few hours ago, except the fact that you weren´t the one who drank that drink. What did that kiss mean? He wanted to see you again. Tomorrow. Thursday, he said he would be busy on Thursday, now he wanted to see you again. The day after he kissed you. And just left. What the hell was going on. Your head felt kind of dizzy. A headache started to creep in. It was full with so many different thoughts, that you almost missed your station. When you got home all you were able to do was getting in your pj´s, remove your makeup and brush your teeth. The moment your head hit the pillow you fell asleep.
The next morning you woke up, got ready and went to work. Jen was already there and welcomed you in the room of your kids group with wide eyes. “OH MY GOD! Tell me everything about yesterday!!” You were totally confused and suddenly remembered what happened yesterday. “Oh Jen. I don´t know what is going on.” Jen chuckled: “What?” “It was amazing. I´ll see him again tonight”, you did not seem really content. That´s why Jen asked you: “So what is wrong, you don´t seem happy about it.” “I´m just confused…” There were no kids in the room yet, so you both took a seat on the sofa. “Okay, tell me more, y/n.” You took a deep breath: “We met at the hippodrome. He was late but he already apologized before over text message. It was a technical issue, with the train rails. We decided to go to seven dials market, the whole way he had my hand in his hand.” Jen gasped and grabbed your hand. “He did NOT! He´s touchy, uuuuuuh.” You both laughed. “Well, he is, always touching a hand, or my arm or my back when walking.” “Love that.” was Jens reaction. She started to focus again and looked at you with a lot of expectation. You continued: “We ate at seven dials market, we talked a lot. Then we…” Jen interrupted you: “What did you talk about?” “Everything!” Right now, you were just reliving everything before the confusing kiss. It was not like you didn´t like your date with him, it was your first freaking kiss, you weren´t even able to enjoy it, because you were too surprised. “We really talked about everything. Work, what kind of food we like, what we like to do in our free time, about his education, about my life in Germany…just everything.” “What is he doing for a living?”, Jen asked. “Ehm, he´s an actor.” “Really, what kind of acting?” You tried to keep this short: “BBC, theatre, Netflix. Then we-“ Jen was too curious about the acting thing: “What´s his name?” “Joseph Quinn.” Again, she gasped, this time she grabbed you by your shoulder: “No FUCKING way, y/n! You had a date with Joseph chocolate button eyes Quinn?!?” You giggled in confusion: “How do you know about the chocolate button eyes?” “He said that at a convention some years ago! I can´t believe you really went on a date with Joseph Quinn!!” she squeaked a little. “Well, he told me that his mother used to call him like that.” “Yes, I know, that’s what he said at the con, it was a video on tiktok! Oh my god, Joseph Quinn. He´s really a touchy guy” “Alright, this feels kind of weird now.”, you said to Jen: “What do you mean?” “Oh, there are a lot of videos on the internet, where he´s holding hands with fans, or rubbing their backs and everything.” Wow, that hit you like a car. Now it didn´t feel really special to you, the way he walked with you hand in hand, the sneaky little touches you got, when you sat for dinner. Your heart felt heavy, in a bad way. “Go on.” Jen interrupted your thoughts. “That´s it. I had to leave because of work, and we´ll meet tonight.” You didn´t know why, but you did not want to share the kiss with Jen. “Sounds promising!” Jen smiled at you, you tried to smile back. The first kid arrived so you had to get to work.
Shortly before lunch break, you actually considered to cancel your date with Joe tonight. You were overwhelmed and felt kind of sad about the things Jen told you. You took a seat at the resting room and got your phone out of your handbag, pretty sure to cancel right now. Maybe you could tell him you feel sick or whatever. Your heart skipped a beat, when you saw that you had got two messages from Joe. The first one was: “hi love, how are you?” The thing about the pet names was so British. Also, the second message had a pet name in it. “Love, can we change location tonight? 6 pm at Monument station?” Your heart felt lighter again. He really wanted to meet you. He seemed to put a lot of effort in it. Your previous thoughts flew away and all you could do was to reply: “I´m great, see you later at Monument station”.
At home after work you had to change for the evening. This time you wanted to dress up without Jens help. You chose a mid-length beige dress and some heels, Monument station was basically in the financial district of London, so it definitely would be something more chic tonight than fast food at seven dials market. At 5:30 you left for the date, at 5:55 you left the circle line at Monument station. Outside you briskly spotted Joe, he wore a pinstriped shirt and brown trousers. He looked so handsome. You were nervous about the first time seeing him today, the last time you saw him yesterday, he walked around a corner after he kissed you surprisingly. What would he do now? Hug you, kiss you again? You did not know a lot about dating, you weren´t experienced at all. Once Joe recognized you, he started to smile from ear to ear. Either he was a brilliant actor or he was really, really excited to see you. He came in your direction and hugged you. Hi love”, he did whisper in your ear, while tightening the hug a little bit. Then he looked at you: “Wow, you look gorgeous again!” You immediately felt the heat in your face, you did not wear a lot of make up today, because of the lack of time (you got home from work a little later than usual), he was able to see you blushing for sure. “Thank you, I like your shirt.” That was everything you got out of your mouth. “Thanks love.” Even though it was a normal British thing, the pet names made you feel things. “Should we go?”, Joe asked. “Yes, where do we go?” you asked curiously. “That’s a surprise!” he mysteriously moved his hands, right before he grabbed your left hand and walked with you. The financial district was one of the places you did not spend a lot of time. But every time you were here, you enjoyed it. Joe walked you down Eastcheap and turned left for Philpot. 20 Fenchurch Street, also known as the walkie-talkie was right in front of you. Joe went up the stairs, and led you in there. “Wait, we´ll eat at sky garden?” you asked. Joe nodded and saw that you were genuinely excited about that.
You both got in to the lift and went up to the highest floor. You never were at sky garden before, but it was definitely on your things to do in London list. In the lift it was only you and Joe. He turned to you and started to speak: “I´m sorry about yesterday. The kiss. I just left you like a fucking coward.” “Oh.” You did not know what else to say. “I´m sorry, if it was too early for you, I´m sorry that I left you there.” He was really sorry, you could feel it. To reassure him you took his hand and slightly squeezed it. “It´s okay.” You did not know if it was really okay for you, but you did not want him to feel bad about it. And then you felt the inner urge to say something really flirty: “Maybe you can make up for that.” You were surprised by yourself. He smirked a little and you left the lift. A waiter accompanied you to your table. Sky Garden looked amazing, all the plants and flowers looked stunning. You studied the menu the waiter had given you and decided to get the stuffed gnocchi. The prizes were way out of your normal budget, but you worry about that later. Joe looked up from the cocktail menu: “Do you mind if I get something alcoholic?” “No, of course not.” “Well, it´s not obvious. You never know what the opposite person may go through, so I always check, if it´s okay.”, he responded. “That´s really thoughtful.”, your heart melted. “You take a cocktail too? I think I get the Mile end.” “Oh, I just decided what to get to eat, did not even look at the cocktail menu yet.” Joe chuckled: “Priorities well set!” “Yes!”, you joined him chuckling. After a few minutes of considering which cocktail to get, you finally chose the Lancaster Gate. Joe already waited for a moment, when you looked up from the menu, he called the waiter. He ordered the rosemary sourdough as a starter and for the main course the British wagyu beef rump. You didn´t have to wait long for your drinks. Joe wanted to toast with you: “Cheers to the French house, such an inviting place in London that luckily you went in when I was there.” You blushed again: “Cheers.” Your food arrived also very quickly. It was probably the best thing you´ve ever ate. Joe enjoyed his beef rump pretty obviously. When he took the first bite, he closed his eyes and moaned softly with his full mouth. “How are your gnocchis?”, he curiously asked and glanced at them. “You wanna try?” “If you don´t mind.” You poked one of the gnocchi pieces with your fork and hold it in front of his mouth. He wrapped his lips around the fork and ate the piece. That was kind of hot.
After the main course Joe ordered a dessert and invited you to share it with him. You could definitely tell he was a foodie. Just like yesterday, you talked about a lot of different topics, there wasn´t one moment when you both had nothing to talk about and just said nothing to each other. The so-called “Fenchurch chocolate bar” stood between you two, you weren´t able to eat a lot more, but Joe polished off the rest of the dessert. “I am really sorry about the kiss.”, Joe said all of a sudden. He looked at you with his brown eyes. “It´s okay.”, you tried to reassure him again. “No, it´s not. I can´t believe I just walked away.” “Well, I was pretty overwhelmed in that moment. I did not know what to do anyway.”, you chuckled a little, but more fake than real. At once the whole situation got uncomfortable. You wished you could tell him about you state of virginity on almost every level, but how would you get this topic into the conversation? Especially with a grown up 30-year-old man, who probably had sex for over ten years now, and even “had it” on screen. While you had your first kiss yesterday, he might have had his first one 15 years ago. He repeated himself: “I´m sorry.” Joe definitely could tell that you weren´t sure if it was really okay. You nervously laughed and didn´t know why, but you blurted out: “Haha, you were my first kiss!” You were shocked, that was probably the epitome of cringe. Joe looked at you with a shock in his face. But you could not tell if it was the fact or the way you just had told him. “Wow, I ruined your first kiss.” There was no judgement in his voice, he sounded just really worried. “Nooo, you did not ruin it, you just…surprised me!” “I just left you there, at an underground station.” “Well, yes you did, but I really wanted to kiss you.” You took his hand, which laid on the table. “Did you want to kiss me?”, you carefully asked. “I wanted it so bad!”, he grunted. Your heart skipped a beat, you felt a huge warmness building up in your stomach. “Why did you leave then?” “I don’t know… I was so nervous…You make me so nervous… I don´t know what is going on actually.” You chuckled a bit in relief: “Same.” Joe glanced at you and his eyes started to sparkle. His other hand got up on the table and took both of yours in his hands. You both smiled at each other. “I can´t believe that I have the honour to be someones first kiss and then I screw up like this.” “I told you earlier: Maybe you can make it up at some point.” Joe smirked.
You finished the dinner at sky garden, Joe paid the whole ridiculous amount of money and left the restaurant hand in hand. In the lift Joe asked you: “You wanna come with me?” “Where?” you asked him. “To my home. It is not even 8:30. I don´t want to leave you already. I can make great martinis by the way.” “Oh, you are an actor and a bartender as well?”, you said to him in a flirty way. “So you join me?” “Yes.” You looked him deep in the eyes. And then you kissed him. His lips felt warm, your hands immediately moved up to his head and got caught in his curls. Joe pulled you closer, his hands were around your waist. They started to rub up and down there. You deepened the kiss a little more, you opened your mouth slightly, so Joe could have more access with his tongue. You did not know what you were doing, but everything just felt so natural. Joe chuckled a little bit, the moment your lips got separated. “I think we have to get off the lift.”
To be continued…

rewatching the Dinotopia 13-episode miniseries and just wanted to say I concur with a lot of your takes. Hopefully it's ok to infodump about it in your askbox?
26 is adorable and heart-stealing (as is Karl's love for her) and she still looks so lifelike even after 20 years since the show's airing--the combination of lower-tech puppetry and higher-tech animatronics just hits perfectly. I just want to hold her and carry her around and tickle her little head. I feel weird calling her 'lifelike' considering none of us have seen Chasmosaurs(sp?) in the flesh, but the way she blinks and shakes her head and squeals just feels authentic somehow?
'Contact' is one of my favourite episodes as well, as it legitimises this version of Karl who in earlier episodes risked coming across as trivial/annoying/shallow (I love this Karl fwiw, more than the previous 'better' series' take). The connection between Karl & Gracie is so touching and raw, and it seems like the most important thing that happened to Karl at that stage in his life, as well as a turning point in the way he relates to female peers. While I am a fan of Karl's himbo side, I appreciated seeing him finally show expertise and determination in something other than mixing drinks and flirting and wheeler-dealing, as well--after all, he's Frank's favourite son and an adventurer in his own right, why shouldn't he be capable? (we also saw his resourcefulness in 'Lose & Found').
As for Lesage, your thoughts about her past relationship with Rosemary really have me thinking as well. The reference to their fling was so fleeting that I missed it first time around, but it's definitely critical to understanding both their characters imo. Lesage definitely seems the free-spirited fiery rebellious type to run off with a woman to have sapphic adventures in the wild, even if it took said sapphic partner to bring that out of her (and it's SO interesting that Rosemary was *Lesage's* closet key). What would Dinotopia make of lesbians disrupting their natural order and their status quo? (upon which they rely for their coveted peace...) The mind reels. And I agree about the relief and pleasant surprise that this mature dark woman wasn't 'tamed' or domesticated in the storyline's conclusion, it would have been so banal if the series went that route. She clearly isn't the type who wants a traditional family, a secure home or a regular Joe older man with kids.
That said, I must confess to wanting Lesage coupled with David, as I've noticed that from their very first meeting there is deliberate tension and foreshadowing included to put them in a shippy light, and their personalities/chemistry really spark and pop off the screen more than any other pairing (probably why the actors/character got a 2-hander episode to themselves?). Also, in-keeping with 'Lesage does what she wants and breaks the mold', I think Lesage would LIVE for scandalising Dinotopia by taking their Skybax Squadron Commander/favourite Offworlder and seducing him. David for his part would go willingly I think, as he seems captivated and chagrined by Lesage, more than he is by Marion (who imo he *wants* to want and thinks he should want romantically/sexually, but deep down doesn't). David for his part clearly needs a challenge and a foil to get the most out of his life, and Lesage offers that in spades. Where are the fics is what I wanna know
Am still combing over a few of the episodes in more detail, but overall I enjoy it so much despite all the inaccuracies and how off-model and off-book it is, and for the time you can see how it broke some new ground. It's pacey, it's a good time, it's got a little bit of everything from drama to adventure to fantasy to anarchohistory/steampunk. The story and characters remind me of Xena in the way you can read them in a campy/fun way or a serious way, and it works either way. Idk why it isn't on streaming and remastered, though the selfish gatekeeping part of me is kind of glad it's not exposed like that..
Always ok!
I do wish we got more of 26 in The Cure Part 2 that wasn't plot-mandated immobility, because that small bit at the end of Part 1 where she's doing her little scamper around on modern sidewalks is such a cute and defining moment for the series and I would've loved to see her run around through crowds or make an escape through the museum. I'd say even her CGI is some of the best-looking now, probably because of working with an easier scale (although I feel like dated CGI is always going to look like dated CGI, and so try to judge it more on whether or not it emotionally connects, and 26 definitely does).
They say it like "Chasmiosaur" in the show but the dinosaur is spelled Chasmosaur/Chasmosaurus. It's real interesting that both the live-action and book versions of Dinotopia used lesser-known ceratopsians instead of the obvious triceratops.
Agreed on Karl, sketchy/sleazy relationship drama is SO not my thing and I'd say I was only tolerating it for the dinosaurs, but the way this show does it is just so over-the-top that I can't help but be at least a little entertained. Night of the Wartosa is fun to watch in an uncomfortable train wreck sense, because we see Karl at his worst and it's so agonizing, but at the end of the day it's self-aware, it's intended as a wake-up call, and we're meant to be rooting for him to become a better person and laughing at him along the way. And by Contact, we're shown he can be serious when it counts, and his story takes a deeper turn into the heartfelt that solidifies his arc.
Since it's Hallmark, I'm sure they'd find a way to make even the dinosaurs scandalized by anything non-straight. "Why yes, our ancient society founded primarily by non-humans, with its own code of conduct distinct from other world philosophies, has the same puritan sensibilities as early 2000s daytime television." I guess there's a small chance the show actually did mean they only considered themselves sisters, and that very obvious pause didn't mean anything at all, I guess we'll never know *shrug* (but since it was a show cancelled after one season, I'm gonna say that from the 2020s we can go ahead and retroactively assume it must've had lesbians).
Freely admit that if I didn't pick up on anything hinting LeSage/David, it's probably because I only really have shipping goggles for f/f relationships, and also carry around the associated 'just friends' goggles for what are often clearly intended het pairings. To each their own, I suppose, and to both of us, the tragedy of liking a piece of media that very few people have ever seen, and even fewer have seen in any way that made them think of it positively. Highly doubt the internet 20 years after the fact would have much appreciation for my 'LeSage x pachycephalosaurus chariot driver OC' daydream musings but you can bet that's probably what I'm thinking about every time I hear "Fast Car."
Oh, if this show was on streaming, people would expect WAY too much from it. It's in the backwoods of Youtube and on cheap DVDs, and I feel like that's it's natural habitat. I can only really imagine people truly liking this if it's a formative memory, they found it in some obscure corner on a rainy day and gave it a chance only half-seriously, or the rare case where they wanted to watch a dinosaur show enough to turn it on but were secretly looking for... this. It's such a fun time, but I feel like for most, you'd need to know what you're in for or it just won't click.

Perfect Stranger: Noah Schnapp
from STATUS Magazine August 2017 feat. Finn Wolfhard and Noah Schnapp
by STATUS Magazine
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We’ve been teased enough by his character’s appearance in the first season of Stranger Things, but actor Noah Schnapp promises a whole lot of weirder things happening next season, now that he’s in the picture.
Not a lot of 12-year-olds spend their day like how actor Noah Schnapp would normally spend his. His life is now a mix of his definition of normal and crazy. Starting his day with breakfast and a photo shoot perfectly contrasts his summer trip to Camp Echo Lake, wherein he got to spend time with his friends for seven weeks before starting a good amount of promo, advertisement, and photo shoot requirements. Everything suddenly turned out to be a bit of a whirlwind for Noah when Netflix’s original sci-fi hit Stranger Things aired, where he plays Will Byers, the kid who was lost and eventually found; although when he was saved from the Upside Down, something wasn’t quite right.
Noah caught the acting bug when he saw Annie on Broadway. “I remember watching the show and I really loved it. When I saw the main character on Broadway acting on stage, I really felt like I wanted to be on that stage. I wanted to be in front of the audience and not be one of the audience,” Noah recalls. At 7 years old, he took acting classes mainly for fun; however, as he progressed, he grew to love what he was doing and realized that he could actually make a career out of it. “My teacher recommended that I try getting into the acting industry—that’s when I started auditioning for several roles,” shares Noah. Two years ago, he landed the role as the voice of Charlie Brown in The Peanuts Movie, which he thought was an enjoyable thing to do. “I think it’s awesome when you’re voicing a cartoon character because you get to work one-on-one in a small booth with a director. He’s right there in front of you the whole time, guiding you while you’re saying your lines, which you can do as many times as you want until you get it right. You can be crazy and take a lot of roles,” he says.
Next came what threw Noah in together with a bunch of kids to become some of the brightest pop culture stars of the moment. He reminisces how he met some of the casts of Stranger Things two and a half years ago. “I met them one after the other in different places. I met Caleb [McLaughlin] in LA for the first time, and I met all the other kids on set one by one.
Everyone flew in on different days. We all didn’t know each other and we just knew that we were making this small show for one season. And we would shoot like forever; we were together, seeing each other every single day, and we just formed a close bond.” He continues, “We have a group chat, we do sleepovers, and talk to each other all the time.” In between shooting the show, Noah has done a lot of TV guestings and award show appearances with his Stranger Things co-stars and was also featured in Panic! at the Disco’s music video for their song “LA Devotee.” It’s all happening for Noah, but the kid is eager to remain an ordinary kid though living in his newly found strange and crazy life.
Q: What is it about acting that you like the most?
A: My favorite part about acting is I can be someone totally different and transform into another character. I get to try out this whole new world and time, and I find that really cool. I’m a normal kid but I can play someone who has a disability, who’s being abused, or who’s from another era.
Q: How do still keep normalcy in your life despite the fact that Stranger Things is such a huge hit?
A: It’s been crazy because when the show came out, I was in summer camp. We don’t have technology when we’re in camp so when I came out of camp, I realized that it turned out to be a big show, that I have all these followers on Instagram, and that I have people coming up to me on the streets. It’s really just my parents who are keeping me grounded and I still go to a normal school, keep a normal life, and just try to be as normal of a kid as possible.
Q: What’s the best part of being in Stranger Things?
A: My favorite part about being in the show is that I get to be around a bunch of kids, and that we can play and just have fun while we shoot.
Q: How will your character evolve in the second season without telling us too much?
A: In the second season, Will definitely has a larger role and he’ll be part of every character’s storyline. They will show how the aftermath of Will coming out from the Upside Down affected him. He will have a lot of emotionally-challenging scenes.
Q: Is there anything that you and Will have in common?
A: Will is very close to his brother and they do a lot of things together, and I have a twin sister named Chloe and we’re very close to each other too. I can relate whenever his brother would help him when things don’t go well.
Q: What’s the craziest fan theory about Stranger Things that you’ve seen online?
A: I think there’s this video that I saw on YouTube that someone said Hopper and Joyce would get together. I love it when people make couple theories like who would marry who or who would get together, I just find it very funny.
Q: Do you have a favorite character in the show other than Will?
A: My favorite character would be Eleven because she’s a freak and she doesn’t care. She has superpowers; she’s like the hero of the show. She’s cool.
Q: With the success of everything that you’ve been doing career-wise, what major changes did it bring to your life?
A: I started the show two and a half years ago and didn’t know a lot. And just growing up in the show together with such amazing people like Winona Ryder, David Harbour, and the Duffer brothers, I get to learn new tips and tricks at a very young age.
Q: What are you excited about this year?
A: Definitely for the second season of the show to come out. We’ve been filming so much and it’s been crazy; everyone worked so hard on the second season and it looks so great. I’m just waiting for it to come out and see how everyone would react to it.

The song P reposted today reminds me so much of the movie Lost in Translation, and he said it's one of his favorite movies. When I read the lyrics, they match P a lot too, so my question for Tarot is : does he identify with that song and the movie?
Hiya! What a cool question! For those who haven’t seen Lost in Translation, it’s a movie about a lonely actor who goes to Japan for work and meets a lonely young woman who is unhappy in her marriage and they spend a few days together and form this beautiful bond but then they just have to say goodbye and go back to their lives. It’s a very touching movie, they bring out the best of each other, and she’s sad and he’s grumpy and he opens up with her. It’s not really intended to be a romance movie, but rather just two lost and lonely souls meeting and spending amazing days together but that’s it, they’re not gonna stay. It actually reminds me a lot of Pedro and his commitment-phobe ways and the way he can form strong but fleeting bonds with the people he meets (not saying the people in the movie are commitment-phobes). Pedro seems to be one that lives things intensely, but they end, he eventually walks away, it’s not supposed to last forever (not just for romance, but in every way). And btw, the lyrics to that song also remind me a lot of him!
That said, I asked the cards if he could possibly identify with that movie and song and the Major Arcana were Temperance, Judgement and The Hanged Man.
Tumblr media
So, Temperance is about balance, harmony, and it might be pointing to him feeling like the energies between him and this movie (and song) flow freely, they mix and combine harmoniously. Judgement means this movie could have brought him some kind of consciousness about himself, self-reflection and evaluation of himself, like it made him have a clearer understanding of something in his life. The Hanged Man shows our man being hesitant, unable to commit, unable to deep dive, feeling “suspended”.
The Minor Arcana were the Knight of Wands, 10 of Wands and 8 of Cups. Remember how we talk about Pedro being like this Knight, as in being really intense, but fleeting? He will be passionate and full of energy in one moment, and then go cold and uninterested in the other. So with Temperance, this card could be pointing to Pedro seeing the balance and the points where he connects and mixes himself with the movie (and the song) right at the intense experience the characters have, but that doesn’t last. 10 of Wands with Judgement points to him seeing all that clarity as a burden, as too much weight to carry, like the “truths” the movie shows him are too much, it hits too close to home. 8 of Cups with The Hanged Man is very interesting because this man sees it very clearly the way he hesitates and stays suspended and doesn’t deep dive, and then he walks away. He decides to leave because he can’t commit, because he doesn’t want to. He can live the experience to the fullest, but that doesn’t mean he will “commit”. The “deep diving” the Knight of Wands does is temporary, it’s not something meant to last. However, despite these experiences (of love, friendship, work, whatever) being fleeting, they are still intense, like the one in the movie.
So yeah, I’d say he most likely identifies with the movie and the song because they speak of things that are not forever, yet intense as if they were.

Hiya! Can I request a scenario for azami izumida? Reader would be sakyo’s little sister who grew up with azami and one day azami starts trying to court her while sakyo slowly sees it with VERY mixed feelings.
I really enjoyed this one, thank you for requesting it! I hope that you have a great day and of course liked this one!~💕
Tumblr media
Sakyo had often joked around with his friends, that Azami and his little sister would end up together and maybe even start a family on their own. But it was just a joke. Sure, he loved his sister a lot. She is his family after all and he cared a lot for Azami too, acting like a father and a big brother to him here and there, but those two would surely just see each other as siblings, right? …. Right?
Well, no, Sakyo was wrong there. The guy he had always had to babysit, was very fond of the blonde’s little sister, even got flustered around her, whenever he saw her pretty eyes. His throat would dry, when she started laughing and gosh, whenever she held the black-haired boy’s hand, he would melt!
“It’s just a crush. Just a mere crush. Nothing more, nothing less.” Sakyo would always tell it to himself.
Sure, he would be happy if these kids would be together. He loved them and they would be a great couple, but… Let’s just say, he had mixed feelings, as he cared for his little sister a bit too much.
But the moment his heart nearly had jumped out of his chest and his soul tried to crawl out of his body was, when he walked into his room, seeing Azami’s blushing cheeks and your hand grasping his. Your eyes never left the teenager’s gaze, staring at each other with love in your eyes. It surely made him a little bit happy, but Sakyo couldn’t form any words out of his mouth as he stared at the two teenagers.
His legs had moved the blonde out of the room, his expression never changed, while he walked towards the kitchen to drink a glass of water. “What happened to him?” – “Don’t know, don’t care.” He heard two of the autumn actors behind him.
But the moment when his jaw had nearly hit the floor was the day Azami had finally tried to be brave in the garden of the mankai company, while many others were gone.
The black-haired boy held onto your hands, staring into your eyes and gasping for air. You were like on many other days just breathtaking. “(Y/N)… Y-You really look… great…” He stuttered; face even redder than Taichi’s hair. Smiling softly at your dear best friend, you thanked him. Your head leaned towards him, pressing your lips carefully on the red cheeks of Azami, who gulped down, trying not to rush away and leaving you behind. His head screamed at him, that he shouldn’t even be happy about it.
Sakyo had always told the teenager that kissing and holding hands were things that you did after marriage and now these two kids, who were heads over heels in love with each other did both things. You were sure that your big bro just said it, as he didn’t want anything to happen between you and your best friend, but you didn’t care and told the same thing Azami. “I-Is it okay to hold…. hands?” His voice getting higher just like back then, when you had met him. “Of course, Azami.” You chuckled.
“(Y/N)… I really wanted to say that I like… y-.“ Before he could even end his sentence, Sakyo just had to come, grabbing the hands of the teenagers who had intertwined their hands together. “What’s going on here?” Azami immediately let go of your hand, knowing that he shouldn’t had even touch it. “None of your business.” The poor black-haired kid yelled out. “Nothing, oh dear big bro.” You smiled at the tall man, who sighed at you. “That’s something you should do after marriage.” Sakyo said, gaze wandering between Azami and you. “But one day we will get married, so why not do it now?” You chuckled, grabbing Azami’s hand again to walk away with the too flustered teenager, who nagged at you for saying such a thing so suddenly.
“These kids will be the death of me…” Sakyo mumbled, still eyeing the young teenagers he cared for, before his corner of his lips curled up into a smile.

Turtles Catches Up with the Essential BLs: Kieta Hatsukoi Edition
Review of Kieta Hatsukoi (My Love Mix-Up), ready to serve! I’m going through various messages and comments to make sure I tag the right person who recommended that I watch this, and I believe it was my dearest wonderfriend @the-nihongo-adventure, but if I’m wrong, forgive me! (And if I’m right, then as ever, THANK YOU!)
I ate this up in my continued effort to catch up with essential BLs, and Kieta Hatsukoi was just DARLING DARLING DARLING. I was drawn to watch this in part because I’ve seen so many gifsets of the show, including wonderful comparisons to my beloved Cherry Magic, with which I did see quite a number of parallels. (As always, my apologetic caveat for reviewing a show that many of you have already seen! This ended up being a long post, heads up.)
As Teppachi! was a gluttonous showcase for members of the Love Dream Happiness/EXILE TRIBE agency in Japan, so Kieta Hatsukoi featured two gems of Johnny and Associates, Michieda Shunsuke and Meguro Ren, the latter of whom has had a smashing two years of acting, not only in KH, but now in Silent and the NHK morning dorama/asadora, Maiagare! (Meguro is absolutely FANTASTIC in Silent, and if you’re balancing your QL diet with a dose of cishet doramas, I really highly recommend watching it.)
Before I sing its praises, I’ll offer a couple quick criticisms of Kieta Hatsukoi, which is that I think some plot points were rushed at the end of the series, just to move the story along. I think Aoki breaking up with Ida so quickly while at Ida’s house seemed a little melodramatic and rushed. I think their awkward interactions at school right after that seemed a little stilted.
But these are small criticisms, and I bring them up to start this post because I actually think that some of the small melodramas actually served the plot very well. BECAUSE:
This dorama was clearly set up to be a dear and sincere school dorama between two classmates, and I just think that Michieda and Meguro handled that sincerity SO WELL.
Oh my god, Michieda’s Aoki. I literally was laughing OUT LOUD at his acting. His Aoki was SO sincere and wonderful! The way in which Aoki grew into his confidence to continue confessing to Ida throughout the show. The way in which Aoki continued to gain clarity into his feelings, while Ida was plugging away on sorting out his own feelings.
It seemed to me that Michieda acted this role with such a deep COMFORT to become Aoki, and played Aoki so beautifully with such a lovely balance of awkwardness and authenticity. When he pretended to be a rapper to Ida? I was dying. He HIT his coming to his feelings with awkwardness so beautifully, I felt like he transported me right back to my own teenagerhood.
[I’m playing around with the following idea, by the way, and may ask some of the expert commentators of QL here on Tumblr to comment in the near future, but I really wonder if BL-specific content pushes cishet actors -- especially more well-known actors, like your Meguros, Akasos, or Machidas -- to go well beyond their comfort zones and just NAIL their performances. Not that I’m biased -- I’m extremely biased on anything related to Cherry Magic -- but I feel that with all I’ve watched with my Akaso and Machida rabbitholes, that Cherry Magic is still the best show I’ve seen them in. Even with something like Kinou Nani Tabeta, which clearly drove two super-famous, legendary, and talented actors in Nishijima Hidetoshi and Uchino Seiyou, to go beyond their usual scopes to find and demonstrate intimacy between each other -- it seemed miraculous, even while they’ve both acted brilliantly in other projects (please watch Nishijima’s Drive My Car and Mozu, and Uchino’s Tonbi, if you can find them.) I think a lot of what’s in Machida’s repertoire just doesn’t serve his acting ability at all and leverages him just for the looks (ahem, Super Rich, Teppachi). I mean, with the kind of volume these actors need to maintain for relevancy in a hyper-competitive dorama environment, they’re gonna be acting in some shitshows anyway. But it always seems to me that these guys with tremendous potential just overwhelmingly EAT their QL roles. Anyway -- food for thought. I’d be curious to find out if there were analyses in Japanese media on this theory.]
Sorry for that tangent, but it helps me to wonder how Michieda and Meguro so perfectly nailed the chemistry between Aoki and Ida. Ida was really convincing as someone who was sorting out his feelings! I believed him. I believed that Ida had always been sympathetic to people who felt they needed him.
And while I thought it was slightly melodramatic that Aoki left Ida’s house in a huff when he felt like Ida was only treating Aoki as a friend -- I do think that melodrama served Aoki well. I think it contributed to a theme and commentary that Aoki was taking HIS OWN feelings very seriously.
I really loved that about this show. What I didn’t see happening was Aoki slagging on himself -- at least, after the first couple episodes, when dear Hashimoto and that camping instructor helped Aoki to feel confident to BE confident in his feelings. (I DID love that garbage bag scene, though. Whoever wrote that scene, I give you all your flowers.)
Aoki grew to be confident in his love for Ida, and it was a very simple and straightforward plotline that I think Michieda carried so lovingly and heartwarmingly throughout the series. I love how uncomplicated his love was for Ida. Aoki liked his guy, that was it! And he wanted his guy to be honest about his feelings, and was like, you know what, if Ida doesn’t know how he feels about me by now, it must be just friendship -- so I’m going to respect myself enough to get out of the relationship and stop pushing my feelings onto Ida.
That’s actually a pretty sophisticated emotional timeline -- a little rushed, yes, for a dorama, but that’s a lot of awakening for a high schooler.
And same for Ida. I like how brooding Meguro played his Ida at the end of the series, taking very seriously what Aoki was going through with Aoki’s need for a confirmation from Ida that Ida liked Aoki. Ida never, ever stopped taking Aoki’s feelings seriously. That was SO lovely! Never for a second did Ida take what was happening lightly, even while Aoki misread Ida.
It was so sincere. I loved that Ida needed that final push from Taniguchi-sensei. I believed the wonderful run (god, I love this trope!) that Ida took to meet Aoki back at the school festival. I believed it when Ida said, wholeheartedly, that he really loved Aoki (wish I could screenshot this, dang it, Viki).
It didn’t seem rushed that Ida needed the time of the series to come to his realizations about his feelings for Aoki. I loved that part of Ida’s sincerity was just not KNOWING what love felt like. It meant that Ida, himself, needed to come to this realization on his own, certainly with urging from his friends -- but that he wasn’t going to cop to anyone else’s definition of what love was. His love for Aoki was unique to Ida himself, alone. And I think that last line he said to Aoki at the festival -- “That’s alright. We don’t have to be like anyone else.” -- was apropos of that wonderful, singular, and honest mindset.
I honestly thought, going into this show, that it was going to be lighter than it actually was, and I always love being mistaken for that assumption. I’m definitely going to follow more of Michieda’s works (what an actor!), and I’m tremendously happy to have caught up with an important part of Meguro’s repertoire before I finish Silent.

with all the attention on tom and austin, what is dove's career trajectory following the release of elvis? is it slow and steady or immediate stardom? is there an actress whose career you're basing dove's on and if so, who? as much as i love austin and dove together i'm so invested in her career
i genuinely adore you for this question anon. thank you so much for this! i love this sort of thing because world building is great. and i don't usually go into it beyond sort of surface level stuff in the headcanons. so getting this ask honestly put me on cloud nine and i welcome any other questions like this.
so simple answer, neither. it's kind a middle ground. like we see austin shoot up like a rocket, we've all seen that so far right? and while yes everyone is focusing on tom and austin- at least for the verse, i like pretending that she has a larger role in the film than olivia did in reality which puts her at least in a nomination for an oscar- since a lot of my don't make up during press tour au's end up involving some form of them both getting oscars. now- when i came up with this i didn't necessarily realize that she'd likely be going up against people like janelle monae and angela bassett but hindsight is twenty twenty.
while austin immediately shoots up in career trajectory? she gets a bump but isn't necessarily booking 3 different things back to back to back right after filming. partially because emotionally she needs to disconnect herself from working but also because he is the definite hot commodity, she is the warm commodity. i wouldn't necessarily say i'm basing her career off of one specific actress tbh. maybe she kind of mirrors this weird mix of like olivia dejonge and simone ashley but honestly there isn't a really good comparison/basis for what i envision for her career as far as actresses or actors i can think of.
because it's literally in my head- her doing her small parts in films/tv shows before elvis then elvis, booking a netflix movie, then at least some awards during award season then either getting a tv show or several other movies that are hits. and then she gets her pick of things to do and goes on broadway at some point not because she has to to reinvigorate her career or anything- just because she wants to go on broadway. like she eventually- i think within a few years gets like a role that does what elvis is- let us all hope gonna do for austin in that she becomes a household name to be honest. and she does do the one off french films because père is an actual menace ( lovingly ) who tells her that if she's going to live in cannes- which eventually she will with austin- it's a crime to only do english films when she can speak french well enough.

Spring 2022 Anime Overview: Some More Good Food
I’ve talked about three interesting anime about awesome girls from the Spring 2022 season, but what about the rest of my watch list? Well, Spring was smorgasboard of scrumptious shows and here are my thoughts on the rest of what I saw!
(Note I left some in the backlog because there was SO much good-sounding anime this season and I had a feeling summer season would be pretty barren in comparison...and it is. So I’ve recently started Ya Boy Kongming and will probably watch Aharen-San too, but they won’t be getting reviews)
Spy x Family
Tumblr media
This one was such a smash hit I don’t feel like I need to say much about it. The golden premise is that we’ve got a highly fictionalized, extremely loosely cold war inspired setting in which a spy needs a fake family to infiltrate a fancy school and stop a war. For this purpose, he just so happens to adopt a daughter, Anya, who’s a telepath (he does not realize this), and then (in part thanks to Anya thinking it would be cool and setting it up) he ends up fake marrying an assassin (without either of them realizing it). The entire family is keeping secrets to each other and desperately trying to pretend to be normal, but despite all the subterfuge, they develop a love for each other that’s clearly real, and find people who can accept them for their weird quirks.
Spy x Family is just a good time, a great mix of action and comedy with loveable characters. It has an extremely broad appeal and the animators clearly knew they had a hit on their hands, because they bought their A-game when it comes to beefing up both the action scenes and the comical expressions and jokes. It’s a top quality treat to watch all the way though.
Pretty much the only thing to watch out for in this anime is the sadly all-too-common character who’s way too obsessed with his sister (and he’s a member of the secret police, so all around garbage person), though since the sister in question is married, much stronger than him, and they’re both adults, it’s far less…horrific than anime can usually get about it. (I will say his dub actor makes him unhinged enough I found myself laughing at some of his lines, and he did fulfill his role as a catalyst for shenanigans).  Having read ahead in the manga, he also doesn’t show up too much.
Overall, SXF is an easy rec. Whether you’re here for ass-kicking, cuteness, or to laugh a bit, it’ll scratch that itch.
Tumblr media
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War Season 3
Speaking of animators who always bring their A-game, Kaguya-sama is back and as always it’s a spectacle. Especially the rap episode, which was bonkers and has to be seen to believed. Glad it’s canon Chika said motherfucker...twice. It’s still very funny, but doesn’t quite reach the hilarious heights of the second season and there were a couple more uncomfortable jokes- namely the series’ first ever mention of queerness is Chika mistaking Shirogane and Hayasaka-in-disguise-as-a-boy as being in a relationship and getting excited nosebleeds over it while also mentioning once that she’s “not sure if I should stop them or cheer them on”, so, not great.
However, on the character development front, this season was really great for almost everyone (except Chika, weirdly, because as the other characters have gotten nicer and gained depth, she stays the same and thus comes off meaner. Still pretty funny though!) We got to see Hayasaka assert her needs more with Kaguya, both Kaguya and Shirogane reevaluate their priorities, Ishigami continues the develop in a positive direction and…we make REAL PROGRESS on the central relationship. That’s right, actual solid progress on a will-they-won’t they rom com and the central premise of the series itself is challenged in a satisfying (and fun) way.
One thing that always bugged me a bit was that while we see a lot about what Kaguya sees in Shirogane and how she’s changed because of him, we don’t see her from his point of view and why he likes her as much, and this season actually fixes that by showing how he fell in love with her and how she inspired him and shaped a lot of his time in the school. There was solid growth for the characters and it will be interesting where they go next!

Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie
Sometimes you just want to watch a show about good kids being sweet and adorable, and that’s exactly what this series is. Anyone who comes in expecting a strong comedy will be disappointed, but if you’re down for a soothing, slower paced romantic slice of life, you might end up liking it.
The central idea of the series is Izumi is a very terminally unlucky, danger prone soft boi who has a cool, princely girlfriend who protects him, and a I’ve seen a lot of people react like “ugh, are gender roles so restrictive that even having a girl who’s cool AND cute is considered subversive enough center a comedy around” but that like…clearly misses the point of the series, which is allow you to imagine being in the the position where you can watch your girlfriend be cool and dashing and sweep you up in her strong arms, which as a lesbian, I 100% am here for.
‘Cool Girlfriend’ fantasies are nothing new, but what sets Shikimori apart as enjoyable is it doesn’t go into the aspects of that  fantasy that usually lose me- like the part where the average joe boy stumbles into being better than the cool girl at everything, because he can only be worthy if he outdoes her, or the part where the boy doesn’t have to put in any effort while the girl centers her life around him, or the part where she gets her clothes shredded…you get what I’m saying.
Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie works because Izumi works just as hard to make Shikimori happy as Shikimori works for him. It’s clear WHY she likes him- he’s genuinely very kind and, despite being cursed by the universe with bad luck, he spends most of his time thinking about the people around him and doing his best with what he has rather than being resentful. He also appreciates Shikimori for who she is and loves her dashing nature. Shikimori and the supporting cast also have enough interiority we’re actually able to spend an entire episode without Izumi in it at all.
Tumblr media
Granted, Shikimori’s backstory- “I was just following along imitating other people in my family, which very coincidentally meant I was being more traditionally masculine and doing more masculine activities, until I discovered my TRUE dream (after reading a single chapter of shoujo manga), which just very coincidentally involved being more feminine”- is such a eyerollingly common cliché in anime that Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun parodied it, but the end result is Shikimori discovered she didn’t have to hide the protective, rambunctious “cool” parts of herself even if she wants to be cute too, which while a common ending to this cliche backstory, isn’t a bad message.
It also did that thing I really love in anime like Kimi ni Todoke where two girls are set up to be romantic rivals, but instead a girl is like “well, liking this guy is something we have in common, actually, how could I hate you for having the same feelings I do?” and it becomes a point of bonding and reason for them to be friends. Look, is a little idealistic to hope for that for messy teenagers? Yes. Does it make want to cry and do I still absolutely love seeing a story where, where the cliche of women fighting over a man instead becomes a point of solidarity between girls? Also yes. Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie is a world where good, sweet kids support each other no matter what, and it’s heartwarming to spend time with them.
In this cute friend group, Shikimori isn’t shamed for being traditionally masculine in some ways and nobody ever gets on Izumi for being in a more traditionally feminine role either. It’s not anything earthshattering or amazing, but it’s a sweet anime and sometimes it’s nice to escape to a world like this and enjoy the chill vibes.

Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 3
Unfortunately, I found this entry of Bookworm to be a lot weaker than its previous seasons, perhaps because of it’s truncated 10 episode runtime. It’s still a good show with interesting world-building and there’s a lot of big status quo shakeups for Myne…but it all feels pretty rushed, especially considered how huge and sad a lot of things that happen at the end are. Light novel fans have mentioned it does dash through the plot comparison to the source material, and that makes me curious to check them out. Basically, still good, had some shakeups, but I was left just a little wanting- that’s really all I have to say about it.

"The Voyage of the Damned" thoughts
put this off forever bc i didn't want to see it. in the end it was fine even if i keep mixing the title up with "planet of the dead"
ten slaying in his tux-with-converse look that had the 2007 girlies in a chokehold. troy bolton wears the same thing in high school musical 3 btw. if you even care. he gets interested in the angel statues that to me look like craghas "crabfeeder" drahar from hit hbo drama "house of the dragon". do you think the doctor would support the greens or the blacks
we meet max capricorn who is the most "john waters from wish" looking person i've ever seen. and max capricorn as a name sounds like a discount drag name. i like that everyone is wearing 10s-20s era clothing, the mix of titanic-era set dressing with typical sci-fi machinery actually blends really nicely. the two "low class" contest winners are in cowboy clothing which i also like since a lot of the nouveau riche around the turn of the century were oil millionaires from out west (in america anyway). they seem extremely nice and i would love to hang out at a buffet with them
the doctor flirts with kylie minogue, who actually does a really good job in the role, she's very wide-eyed and charming and the character felt fully realized. doctor who is really good at one-offs. he offers a "brand new sky" and she takes it and off to london where we meet WILFRED MOTT, MY GRANDDAD!!!! i completely forgot he was in this one. i screamed "GRANDDAD" when he appeared and scared my bf
the captain is on a suicide mission and apologizes to alonso. i have never seen alonso's actor in anything but he looks so familiar. the actor is gay btw. i loved the captain's "they promised me old men" speech, he's dying and needed the bribe money to take care of his family once he's gone but he was trying to limit the collateral damage to his crew ASTEROID ATTACK
we learn that the doctor is 903 years old. i think this is the first time his age is stated? nine had the whole "900 years of time and space" but i'd assumed he was just rounding. does he celebrate his birthday? i love the idea that he has no idea how old he is and is just guessing. the second doctor was canonically ~450. anyway they're trying to navigate the ship and the cowboy couple try to repair a broken angel bc they were like mechanics back home. i think it's interesting that in sci-fi, robots are stuff for poor people
cyborgs were recently granted rights and "can even get married" which is nice for them. the doctor says "you should see me in the morning" and astrid says "okay" and he looks like he stuck a fork in a socket. they're both sooo down bad this ep. i'd like to have seen her as a companion for a few episodes, adam-style except adam sucked and astrid is cool
max capricorn is a head in a jar. i'm not kidding that this is the exact same twist as the movie "prometheus" did ridley scott steal that from this episode?? it's the same goddamn thing. that movie was awful. i rejoiced when astrid killed him with a forklift, barbara-style (running over bad guys is always barbara-coded for me). the doctor brings the tour guide professor to london cause he's a millionaire on earth and he just like. cries with joy cause he can have a HOUSE with a DOOR and a GARDEN and DISHES and wow he's just like me fr. he refuses to take him with him cause he "travels alone" tenth doctor voice what kind of time lord takes a companion you can't fuck
this episode was in memory of verity lambert who had recently died when it was released. i had no idea who she was last time i saw this episode so i never noticed that. always famous to me verity <3

So I finished Dynaman!
Tumblr media
I got into the last few and instead of wanting to stop and post about it I just wanted to watch the next one. So it goes.
The final arc really balances well the high-concept "we're doing this fun thing this week" older tokusatsu tend to do more of, and the fast-moving plot newer shows lean more towards; and it also brings out something I'd been noticing in general, where this show kinda sneakily characterises everyone way more than you realise, until they do something drastic and you go "huh, actually yeah, that is totally something they would do"
The biggest instance of that is I wasn't really expecting, but totally believed when it came across, just how much the villains care for each other when it comes down to the wire. There's a lot of the fun backstabbing that makes a classic sentai endgame, but tempered by a lot more mutual warmth than usual.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I mean, I'd mourn General Kar too, he maintained a really imposing presence even while almost never leaving the base until the end. Really portrayed well as the one guy with a professional attitude in the room)
There's a couple things looking back I feel maybe got cut for time--what exactly Megido was doing in gay baby jail that produced such a change, and what the hell was up with the backstory implications in that Zenobia-in-disguise episode--that could have been really cool. But it's hard to tell because this show is also perfectly content to leave things to implication to keep up the explosive (ha) momentum.
But man, absolutely part of the golden zone of shows like this for me. My personal pantheon of favourite toku are basically all sentai and metal hero shows from the mid-80s; they just have all the right ingredients. Lead actors chosen for their stunt skills doing absurd leaps through the wilderness, a delightful mix of practical and hand-drawn laser effects, outlandish fantasy armour and multicoloured space-leotards, bombastic insert songs singing the praises of the little car the robot travels around in, and sometimes girls are Heated Battlefield Rivals. What more do you need?
Speaking of which, ultimate win for me when everyone lines up for the final battle, except for Rei, who instinctively veers off to have one last swordfight with Chimera, because I guess she'll explode if she doesn't do this at every opportunity.
Tumblr media
What could be better than this. Gals being [really fixated on whipping/stabbing each other].
Tachibana Rei really coolest girls of all time A-lister. Early on she's just kinda there but you can kinda see them realising how good Hagiwara is in realtime. And thus begins Hirohisa Soda's career of writing shows 80% about the girl rangers. Everyone say thank you, Rei.
But yeah! Dynaman was made specifically for me, but the great thing is, so were like a dozen of these things. I think I've watched most or all of the ones that really hit the sweet spot for me, but I didn't think this one was part of that zone until I watched it either, so, who knows! Check back in a year or two and maybe I'll be yelling about how Fiveman is an underappreciated gem.

Late night duel-watching!
Normally fight/battle scenes in movies are shitty due to the problem of "the actors have not ACTUALLY trained for years in weaponry" or "we don't want TOO MANY hospital bills," but a Viking reenactment site (http://www.vikingsofbjornstad.com/VikingMovies.shtm#Vikings1958) named the 2004 "Troy" film's duel between Achilles (Brad Pitt) and Hector (Eric Bana) as an excellent example of preindustrial single combat, and they're right! Reviews of the rest of the movie seem to be mixed, but when you're doing a war movie, you do as much as you can for the fight scenes. Except for the duel between Paris and Menelaus, which is an intentional aversion. See, Paris is a wimp and after like two hits from the forty-eight-year-old king who wants to kill him for running off with his young and sexy wife, Paris panics and runs/crawls crying to his brother Hector. Near the end of the film, we see WHY Paris hid behind Big Bro. First off, Achilles and Hector use their spears like actual spears, not like pointy staves or broomsticks! Example: I love The Mandalorian, but sometimes Din swings his beskar spear like he's clearing a path through the jungle. I noticed that at some points, Hector is visibly having trouble juggling his spear and shield while trying to tank all of Achilles' hits, which seems to be due to the small but REALLY important differences between shields--Hector's got a plain circular shield, and Achilles' shield has notched sides that clearly let him aim his spear better. In the Iliad poem, Achilles got a new set of armor crafted by the smith-god Hephaestus, so that obviously gave him a BIG advantage over poor, mortal Hector with his mortal weapons. Once they both break the other's spear and have to switch to swords, Achilles loses his advantage and neither of them can keep a distance anymore, so they're constantly in each other's faces and shoving at each other. These two put the CLOSE in close-combat, and I love it! A lot of times, the actors in duels (or "duel-like showdowns" in modern movies) are obviously staying far apart or barely making contact for 1) insurance purposes, or 2) doing flashy moves to show off, but not Achilles and Hector. Achilles does seem to be toying with Hector because he is just so damn fast, but I love that when these two make contact, you can FEEL it. Leading to something I noticed, in how it DIDN'T show up: A lot of camera crews don't know/care how to shoot fighting or dance scenes where the whole body is involved, so you often get the camera crew zooming in so much on the actors' pretty faces that we can't see the rest of them DANCE/FIGHT, but this crew does not make that mistake! Especially notable since it's Eric Bana versus Brad Pitt, two extremely pretty men! No, we get a couple of nice portrait shots for their pre-fight talk, and then as Pharaoh Atem from Yu-Gi-Oh says: "IT'S TIME TO DUEL." We get some really great shots of their fights at a distance as well as close-up, and it's almost shot like the moving version of comic-book panels. A+ for both the realism and the great way of shooting it! Apparently Brad Pitt and Eric Bana didn't use stunt doubles and also had a running bet on how many accidental hits they'd land on each other. Brad accidentally hit Eric A LOT. The different combat styles are well-shown: There's a sense of HEAVINESS with Hector, who knows he's going to die in front of his people, but cannot avoid it, but he will fight anyway to buy his people a little bit more time. This contrasts Achilles' seething rage, his need for vengeance/glory, and his lightning-fast footwork. Especially since he's literally described with the epithet of "swift-footed" in the Iliad! If the writers and director knew about this, A+ for reading your source material! I really like how they use shots of the sandy field in front of Troy's wall to give the sense that these two are EXPOSED, especially since they've taken off their helmets for physical "exposure." You're forced to look at them. Normally I want people to wear their damn helmets, and taking them off is a dumb move to show the actor's face, but given the context where Hector mistakenly fought Patroclus in Achilles' armor and Achilles went "LOOK, IT'S ME THIS TIME! LET'S GO!", to which Hector takes his own helmet off as a show of honor, this is a great exception. It also gives the sense of inevitability. Again, Hector is going to die--he doesn't need a helmet anymore. The realistic close combat also has the effect of making Achilles' speed and his superhero vault-stab move look terrifying and otherworldly. The Trojan royal family's reactions were a more polite version of my horrified face. Fucking hell, if I was a camp-follower on the ground and saw Achilles literally roll UP to stab Hector, I would absolutely think that Achilles is a demigod. At bare minimum, I'd think he borrowed Hermes' sandals, but Hermes is friends with everyone, so I don't know if that counts. Folks have said Achilles looks like an Assassin's Creed character. People also note that the vault-stab is usually Achilles' FINISHING move, but the fact that he uses it right out of the gate against Hector says just how much he wants this dude to die. A+ duel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQ62frK74u0

Right??? Thanks so much! I actually first fell in love with Jo's character when RGGJo's voice lines came out haha, so it's super fun to be able to share them.
But I can think of a couple of reasons for the wild personality gap, and for me it starts at their respective roles. Obviously main antagonist and major supporting character are going to draw different levels of attention to themselves, but I think it's chiefly that RGGJo is not just Jo, but he's both Jo and Masato as one character.
RGGJo is much, much closer in age to Ichi, and though they're not "twins" like Ichi and Masato are (RGGJo is a little more than 2 years older), it's thematically there I think. The whole "twin dragonfish," dark and light, two sides of the same coin kind of thing.
And just as Ichi was initially conceptualized as a sort of "greatest hits compilation" of the previous protagonists' most compelling traits, I think there's a strong case for RGGJo being the same for the previous antagonists--specifically Nishiki, Ryuji, and Mine, who are pretty clearly Yokoyama's favorites anyway lol.
I have a feeling casting has something to do with it as well. RGGJo's actor, Hiroki Takahashi, is actually the exact same age as he is, and he's voiced his fair share of fun, flamboyant villains. If I wanted to speculate, he's also voiced his fair share of BL, so that may be why RGGJo's voice lines have a Certain Slant to them; directing his delivery to capitalize on his established appeal (although he has quite a range) makes sense.
Tsutsumi is also only a few years off from Y7Jo, and he was cast for having the dignity and screen presence to "make every word feel like it might have a deeper meaning." Yokoyama (and Takeuchi) wrote the games, he and Nagoshi handled the casting, and Yokoyama generally handles the voice direction for the main story, so a lot of it's specific to his vision.
Within that context I think it's relevant that he wrote Y7Jo while picturing Tsutsumi specifically. RGGJo was more malleable and less "consequential" in terms of the franchise, so, y'know, why not have a little fun with it? I think that's reflected in their designs as well. RGGJo's is larger-than-life while Y7Jo's is relatively subdued.
Overall, I get the sense RGGJo's role is more akin to "son" and "brother," (aniki, if you will), like Masato, whereas Y7Jo's role is more akin to "co-parent" and "father" and I guess "Evil Stepdad" in a Cinderella kind of way. It's not exact across the board, it's not literal across the board, but it's the archetype, right? And I think that does, exactly like you said, have far-reaching consequences for their backgrounds and who they've become as a result.
BTW, you actually are up to speed on Ichi's story, because uh… that's where it stops lol. It was discontinued at roughly the equivalent of the start of Chapter 12 in 7; the rest of the story was written, but not published. It Kills Me.
But I think, despite any concrete backstory, the implication for RGGJo is that (if I assume he joined earlier than Ichi, which would make sense given he's captain), he was at most 18 or 19 when he joined, and he's exactly the same kind of Arakawa fanboy Ichi is. The 15th anniversary book goes on to say he "was purely in love with [Arakawa]'s greatness" and so cannot tolerate the idea of allowing him to live and die in obscurity at the bottom rungs, of Arakawa being in a position not equivalent to his "greatness" in his eyes.
But Ichi thinks that's regardless of what Arakawa himself may want, since RGGJo is apparently not going to stop until he makes him chairman, which the Arakawa Ichi knows wouldn't really care about. I think there's an interesting mix of selflessness and selfishness in his desires that reminds me of Mine.
And that's explicitly as opposed to Y7Jo, whose loyalty remains the same, but whose feelings and motivations are complicated by the existence of Masato; the usage of "purely" before is notable here, as another suitable translation would be "uncomplicatedly," which to me would suggest that degree of admiration is a component of his loyalty in 7 as well.
So I think you're absolutely right the circumstances with Masato are a major aspect of what's going on with Y7Jo. It's inextricable because he's got this immense gratitude towards Arakawa for raising his son and also a need, a primary driving force, to be a part of his son's life at (almost) all costs. The natural result of that is going to be reluctance to do anything that tips the balance.
I think that's one of the things that make him so compelling, he's forced to make a lot of tough, meaningful decisions and there's often (but not always) no right answer. And that's really clear to see with Aoki, as you say.
(Kind of a side note, but somewhat contrary to the above, Masato may actually have existed in RGGO's timeline. There was a comment from Yokoyama or Takeuchi suggesting he's not in RGGO not because he simply "doesn't exist, but specifically because Arakawa may not have opened the right locker or may not have made it to the lockers in time. I guess the other implication would be that Masato would've been Arakawa's biological son in RGGO instead, since RGGJo would've been too young and there was no need for a switcheroo? It was just an off-hand comment, but it's interesting to think about.)
Also, loved your tags haha. It's SO funny you start off like you're going to say something crazy and then it turns out to actually be something I wanted to write about in the previous ask, but that I cut out because I couldn't make it flow. I guess it might just be the case that I'm crazy on the same wavelength?
But yes! I think a lot of the time, impressions of that aspect Jo's backstory sort of begin and end at Evil Stepdad Perpetuates Cycle Of Abuse, perhaps understandably, but there's genuinely so much that's established in both his and Arakawa's backstories that have clearly stayed with them that I'm positive your take on it is at the very least least true to the character, whether or not it's intentional.
Because like, Arakawa and Jo both came from abusive households. And they're both affected by Aoki's "parental abuse" (although Aoki doesn't know it himself, I guess he doesn't need to). But the way Arakawa has always dealt with abuse is defiance; I think the implication of one of the first scenes is that that's how he got his scar. Jo, on the other hand, has always dealt with abuse with avoidance. Running away. Brushing it under the rug, like he says he and Ikumi had done all their lives; I think that statement's fairly clearly linked to abuse and neglect.
And I think that shows both in Arakawa and Jo's respective responses to traditional authority figures and in how they choose to handle things with Aoki. Arakawa defies Aoki's plans in his own way at every turn, and he ends up getting killed for it. Jo, on the other hand, ignores it until there's nothing left to do but sever himself completely, in the same way there was nothing left to do back then but run. IT'S SO. Ugh.
Each Jo's respective role in the overall plot of their stories definitely plays a part in why they turn out different from each other the way they do; it's interesting to see how RGG decided to handle Jo's character to sort of 'adjust him' to fit better as more of a background figure than The Big Bad, and to especially see how his relationships end up is spectacular. Choosing to divide that devotion between his son and his boss in Y7 is something I'm just positively obsessed with: it's clear he joined the yakuza predominantly for Masato's sake, but the concept of Jo gradually coming to genuinely respect Arakawa as an individual opposed to someone that he just happens to have to follow after because his son's involved heightens him as a character for me (I might have to write a side piece on the psyche of Jo- there's just a bunch of aspects to him that I want to explore better and really intrigue me, but I refuse to try and squeeze any of that into this long-as-is answer lmao).
I definitely recognize Ryuji and Mine the easiest in RGGJo (Mine's influence still persists a bit in Y7 to me, if not solely for his devotion and his own version of The Knife Scene existing as The Eye Scene; though Jo's anger wasn't purely due to Arakawa's death in that scene like Mine's was due to Daigo's 'death', it was clear Arakawa's passing was a sore subject). Jo's dedication to Arakawa in RGGO really is totally reminiscent of Mine's devotion to Daigo: both willing to take drastic measures to secure the ones they idolize the spot they feel they deserve and to exterminate any opposition to that dream (if I'm remembering Mine's RGGO story right wherein he partakes in the Okinawa deal as a HUGE ploy just to secure Daigo remains chairman should he wake up, but I don't have to clarify how that didn't go as planned).
As for Nishiki, it's clear Jo borrows his 'position' in the story, just as Ichi obviously takes Kiryu's. To yoink a phrasing from another ask I got, they're 'dark parallels': though they both clearly want the best for Arakawa, they're going about it in different ways (in that sense, Y7Arakawa's line about him seeing the Arakawa Family as his 'sons' makes this situation a little funny: just two kids fighting each other for what's best for their dad lmao). It's a shame the story didn't go on any more after the Millenium fight, but I'm a little happy knowing in that I'm not missing anything (what I will scratch my head over is what RGGOMasato would've been like. I guess it's not exactly certain whether or not he survived The Locker Incident or he was just so considerably normal he wasn't worth bringing up, but regardless I'll have a ponder about it..). It'd be rad if RGG ever decided to release at least the drafts of the rest of the story one day, but I won't hold my breath.
I've peaked over at Takahashi's past roles (I didn't realize he's voiced so many characters I know omg), and I think that's a fair conclusion to come to: he repertoire combines characters with sort of 'harsh' tones to their voices/dialogue, but as you said he does benefit from having voiced some 'lighter' characters! As for Tsutsumi, I think I've made it a little clear on my blog that I've taken time to look at his past projects, and though I haven't seen all of his roles, Jo's an interesting inclusion to his list (but by no means an inappropriate fit. If I were to compare him to one of Tsutsumi's past roles, Nobunaga Oda from Honnouji Hotel is similar in being an intimidating man with a violent reputation but still having a 'soft'/deeper side). It gets more fun when I think of it: Tsutsumi, from what I can gather, is a tad renowned for playing loving fathers (whether they're perfect fathers depends on the character, but they all absolutely adore their kid/family- this might be the only time I've seen him play a father and he isn't doting on his kid, lmao). Yokoyama and Nagoshi are definitely masters at deciding who should play who and how to utilize their talents efficiently, and having prior knowledge to Tsutsumi's roles, I feel as though audience members would have been able to get a hint at Jo's whole character early on (just as RGG had capitalized on Takahashi's reputation) which I personally find to be a fun tidbit, if not just grateful that they chose such an excellent actor to play such an intricate character. Ergo, his ability to give 'deep' performances and have that sort of presence and give his character that type of atmosphere definitely helps enhance the human aspect of Jo's character.
It's a great blend into Jo's otherwise cold demeanor, and going off the idea that RGGJo was a combination of Masato and Jo, the decision to have Jo be a committed father to Masato (as much as he's allowed to be, anyhow) while Masato became the power-hungry villain (even if RGGJo's motivations were ironically centered around Arakawa succeeding moreover himself), it's somewhat of a roundabout way to have them still be connected: though they're not the same character anymore, there's that bond that keeps them stitched together that I find neat.
AND THANK YOU ABOUT MY TAGS I can't sugarcoat it, I'm not a very confident person, so I'm glad you've gleamed there's some validity to what I'm saying. And I'm glad you've expanded on not just Jo, but Arakawa's upbringing as well: though they both come from abusive homes, they do handle it differently, and I feel so blind for not even having wholly noticed it in how they react to Aoki- it's so brilliant I almost want to scream. It's a tragic irony that despite Jo resolving to not 'half-ass' things anymore and to face things head-on, to 'take responsibility', he incidentally falls back into trying to avoid the problem for as long as he can. It's poetic really, and I'm positively going to go insane over the fact.
#long post#fave#i AM faving all of these because any disucssion about jo/the arakawas is my favorite ☠️#snap chats#i'm still screaming about the parental bits at the end though like god how could i have been so blind.. thank you for pointing that out#it always fascinates me how abused kids turn out based on circumstances#I'm Rambling Again but i think arakawa got some benefit of his dad being there for him. until he died of course#even if kids come from broken homes so long as they have at least one positive adult figure in their life theyre likely to turn out alright#i guess 'alright' is subjective- i wouldnt exactly say becoming a yakuza leader is the most conventional lifestyle but hey what can you do#in any case jo's absolute abandonment certainly paved the way for- despite his wishes to reject it- him to fall back into being avoidant#ouugh that hits close to home im gonna throw up but its so also so good i love these details so much#also can we all ignore like. The Phat Chunk i dedicated to mr tsutsumi LMAO i really have become a fan of his work through all of this#AND I REPEAT HE IS SUCH A GOOD FIT FOR SAWASHIRO another role i can think of is mr tatsuya kanda from meishi game#he's more blatantly an antagonistic and selfish figure but we find out he's such an asshole because he's trying to make his daughter proud#so yeah definitely not mr tsutsumi's first time playing a dickish dad who loves his kid#i feel like im everywhere with this response ngl- im always so crummy with organizing my thoughts#but of course again thank you for writing in ! always fun reading your asks ^^#AND DEFINITELY THANK YOU FOR TAKING TIME TO DEDICATE TO THE WIKI i cant type enough o7's to convey that respect

Dino Watches Anime (Nov 5, 2022)
I gotta start putting the year in these things because I've been on Tumblr for too fricking long.
Anyways, I've been getting back into anime which is why my doctor is very concerned (I'm not even joking about that one).
These sequels are good (obviously)
Pop Team Epic
Honestly, the last few episodes have been mediocre. For one, I expected more out of Asanuma and Toyonaga's bit. Second, the writing, like all comedies, is extremely hit or miss. Pop Team Epic in particular is niche to many memes that people haven't even heard of. I'm watching it for the seiyuu and the bad jokes. Yuuma and Enoki's 3B part is what puts it under the "Yeah, I'll keep watching this" category.
Tumblr media
Spy x Family Season 2
Yeah, it's good. Wholesome stuff right here. This is the type of content that's okay to put on your search history. Yor is also one of the few characters that Shonen Jump can sexualize without being put on a watch list. Not that they need to. We all show up for Anya.
Tumblr media
Mairimashita Iruma-kun Season 2
My only complaint is that there isn't enough Clara antics. I have already written a post about this show. It's good. Go watch it.
Tumblr media
Mob Psycho 100 Season 3
Takahiro Sakurai scandal? What is a "Takahiro Sakurai scandal"? For real, that scandal did kind of rock my enjoyment of the show, and I really wouldn't want Reigen to be played by anyone else, but that's up to the people involved with the show. Either way, this season has already been recorded. I just don't see how they can top that previous season with Reigen's revelation arc. Just remember kids, separate the artist from their work. Sakurai is just a small part of what makes Mob Psycho 100 good. There's also some controversy with the dub cast too, so don't think that watching dub will protect you from that.
Tumblr media
Recently finished
Koi wa Sekai Seifuku no Ato de
The fanservice interferes with this show. Honestly, I've been watching anime for quite a while, and even this show really sticks out for some reason. Besides that, it's a cute love story that doesn't diverge too much from the usual "Romeo and Juliet" type fare.
I was really surprised about some of the casting decisions for this anime, but I think it worked out for the most part. I don't think I've seen Yuusuke Kobayashi play a meathead before.
Tumblr media
Heaven's Design Team
Okay, this is the one show where it genuinely doesn't matter that the cast is never developed because it isn't that type of show. It's ecology mixed with creationism, and even though you'd think those two would never mix, it leads to an almost theistic brand of evolution, and I think that's okay. Just enjoy it for what it is. I watched it for the seiyuu who made the show fun. It's a nice watch, but I can't say it's mindless because you do actually need to pay attention sometimes.
Also, I accidentally watched this out-loud on a VC and still cringe every time I remember that. It was during one particular scene too. Ouch.
Tumblr media
Shinchou Yuusha
I pretty much watched this for the voice actors. For one, Aki Toyosaki was really funny in the clips I've seen. Second, I got it spoiled for me and wanted to see the build-up for said spoiler. It was alright. Not a complete waste of time, but it still wasted time if you get what I mean (I watched it on 1.5 speed). I should've been productive. I feel like some of this stuff could've actually been abridged. Besides the two main characters and a few gag characters, the cast is extremely forgettable. It's almost like they made them forgettable on purpose. The fanservice interfered with the show a lot. I could not sit a minute without having female MC's boobs hanging out.
Tumblr media
Romantic Killer
Yo, I made a post for all the reasons you should go watch this show. You should go do that. Quit reading this and go watch it. It's good. I like it. Makes the little dino in my brain boogey.
(also a comment on that gif: If this was your normal average harem with a male protagonist, MC would've definitely accidentally groped someone. Anzu never fall on their ball sack. I appreciate that it just stops with a kabedon and her accidentally stomping the crap out of him)
Tumblr media
On-going
Akuyaku Reijou nanode Last Boss wo Kattemimashita
I just realized that I may have watched too many anime with Yuuichirou Umehara as the lead, and the funniest part is that all of the three characters in the past three anime I've mentioned have the exact same voice. It wasn't a whole "voice actors have such range" kind of thing. Umehara does have range, but I swear the past three entries have had him to do the exact same or extremely similar voices (closer to his natural voice). He was also in Heaven's Design Team where he did give the character a different voice. So yeah, he's been in four of the anime I've watched lately, and I think it was done by choice? I don't know. He happened to align with a lot of my stuff on my "watch later" list. Meanwhile, Rie Takahashi has given such range as Anzu and the MC of this anime. Man, I have slept on how good she is.
Anyways, this anime is alright. Honestly, go read the manga which covers the first four episodes. From episode five on, the anime goes at a snail's pace compared to the first four episodes which adapted at light speed. Bro, choose your pace then STICK WITH THE PACE YOU CHOSE.
Tumblr media
Chainsaw Man
You know, I thought this while reading the first few chapters, but man, it feels both refreshing and insulting to have a straight-forward pervert as the protagonist. Thanks for being honest with us and what you want to project, but man, I am not part of the crowd that would relate to this (asexual). It beats all of those "I'm a good guy who just happens to grope women in my spare time" MCs, but man, how am I supposed to get behind Denji as a main character? Also, screw those people who dislike the casting. I strongly like this cast. Tomori deserves support and so does that trombonist playing Denji. Also, RIP to all of them peeps who are falling for the Makima x Denji stuff. We all know how that's gonna turn out given the tone of the show... and the manga readers screaming spoilers at us from 100 kilometres away.
