kpanniversary2024, prompt 4: Tension
"It's not your choice, Macau." The noise Macau makes with his mouth rings like a gunshot in Vegas' ears. His eyes widen as he stares at his brother's flustered face. His nostrils flare. Macau is wearing his anger like an armor made of rusty metal on his skin. He thinks it protects him, keeps him safe, when all it does is reveal all his weak spots to the enemy. Presumed enemy, in this case. Pete is not - could not - be an enemy of his in the first place. Not even when he was the main family's guard dog. He was a fool. In a way, he still is. Vegas is afraid to look at him. He does it, regardless. Saliva is trickling down Pete's forehead, down the path formed by the creases of his furrowed eyebrows, down the curve of his nose, almost but not quite missing his pursed lips. He is standing by the kitchen table completely still, statue-like. His eyes are closed. His body is tense. He looks like he's about to start crying, or screaming, or both. He does neither. He just opens his eyes, slowly, and stares at Macau with an unreadable expression; another kind of armor, equally rusty and ineffective. He doesn't wipe the spit off his face. "Who do you think you are to say that to me?" Macau yells, unperturbed by what he did. Vegas's breath hitches. He has to intervene, somehow. Say something to stop this madness from continuing, salvage any of the last, remaining pieces of his broken family. He has to- "You're not my brother, so stop acting like it!" "Macau!" He's too late. Pete's face crumbles. He lowers his head to hide it, but Vegas can still see it, can still see Pete's bottom lip quivering, his shoulders shaking. He wants to hit himself. It wouldn't solve anything, fuck, it'd make everything worse, but he can't help seeking the familiar sting a slap would provide. A punch, even more so. He gets pulled out of his thoughts by Pete whispering something he doesn't catch. It's an easy guess to make. For a moment, Vegas thinks the bullets that had pierced his torso all those months ago had hurt less. Macau says nothing and runs away to his room.

losing my mind like. sorry i know i never shut up about dark pete burning the whole mafia world down to save vegas and macau but. i've seriously been losing my mind over it like
give me vegas and macau being late home after vegas went to pick macau up at school on his bike and not answering their phones and pete immediately knowing something is wrong. give me pete calling chay to ask if he saw them actually leave together and then, at chay's affirmative answer, calling arm all business-like: "i need a favor, but you can't tell anyone about it. if you won't help me just say so right away, i don't have time to waste." give me pete asking arm to hack into the security cameras on the way from macau's school to their home and watching all the footages until he spots a van cutting vegas' bike off and then taking vegas and macau away.
give me pete figuring out it's not a ransom situation but a personal vengeance. give me pete manipulating, bribing, maiming, and torturing people, promising them not to kill them if they give him the information he needs and then killing them anyway because whoever was behind this can't know pete is coming and dead men tell no tales. give me kinn and porsche eventually finding out what’s happening and asking pete why he didn’t go to them for help. give me pete answering, cold and detached, ‘frankly, i haven’t ruled out the involvement of the main family in this, yet. nor of the new minor one.’ give me porsche’s indignant ‘ai’pete!’ before trying to stop pete from leaving. give me pete pointing his gun at porsche because yes, porsche is his friend and pete loves him dearly, but that’s pete’s family they’re talking about and no one – NO ONE – is gonna tell pete how he has to go about saving it, if someone was stupid enough to think they could mess with vegas and macau now that they don’t hold the title of heirs of the minor family anymore, well then pete has to show them just how fucking wrong they are and bring them as an example for everyone else.
give me pete finally finding out who’s behind it and where they are keeping vegas and macau and getting ready to bring down an entire building full of people armed only with a gun and a knife. give me pete being smart about it, using stealth and smoke bombs to conceal his attacks, preferring the knife over a gun he would have to reload over and over again, putting into practice his experience as a boxer and all of chan’s teachings: circle around the target rather than move in a straight line; forgo the heart and target the abdominal aorta that sits unguarded at the top of the abdomen at the meeting of the ribs; if the opponent is guarding their vital targets well, strike at less vital areas to make the defender move and then go for the carotid in the neck, the brachial artery in the arm or the radial artery in the forearm, the femoral artery in the leg, the abdomen. give me pete finding macau locked alone in a room and macau not caring about the blood covering pete from head to toes and just hugging him tight because pete really came for them. give me pete handing the gun to macau because there’s no way he’s leaving macau behind and the two of them fighting their way to wherever they’re keeping vegas. give me vegas tied to a chair, half-high with whatever drug they injected in his system to keep him from fighting back, a constellation of cuts and bruises all over his body. give me vegas never seeing something so beautiful as pete, covered in blood and knife in hand, killing the dudes assigned to keep guard to vegas' room and then dropping on his knees in front of vegas to gently cup his face and put their foreheads together.
and the fucker who did this? give me pete dragging him in front of vegas and macau and not killing him right away, but slowly cutting him up and tearing him apart for every wound he can see on the two brothers: a tooth for macau’s split lip, an eye for the bruise blooming on vegas’ cheekbone, all of his fingers for vegas’ broken arm. and then, finally, give me pete bringing vegas and macau home and the three of them piling together in the same bed, holding each other all night, their little family of three that no one is allowed to touch.

Your aftercare is for shit, Vegas. There's about a million different things going on with Pete in these heartbreaking pre-escape scenes, but none of it is helped by the worst case of subdrop ever. Just the thought of what’s going on in his head at this point has me mentally on my hands and knees, scrabbling around to try to pick pieces of him off the floor. (I’m trying to decide if i trust BOC to have made the subdrop factor purposeful and not just something that can serendipitously be read into Pete’s responses and reactions as one of the variables. How well did they do their homework on this front?)
And it’s also not helping my poor tender heart, VEGAS, to realize that you probably have nowhere near the emotional acuity you need to even begin addressing Pete's needs in these moments not only because you're as poorly socialized as it's possible to be and still function, but also because this is probably the first time in your miserable life you've actually had sex with someone you give half a fuck about, so you have zero practice + no knowledge that's not purely theoretical.
I’ve got to hand it to you - you are the most brilliant mixture of pathetic motherfucker and terrible little man I’ve watched in a long time, and I’d say you were my FAVORITE, but unfortunately for you, you’re standing next to Pete, my BEST BELOVED, so, sry, looks like second place AGAIN. I'd also say you need to be horsewhipped for allowing the whiplash turnaround from Pete’s brilliant sunshine smile that you got back in the afterglow, in Ep 12, to this shitshow, but then, once again, I feel too much like Kun, and I am, once again, left to grit my teeth and grimly repeat to myself that stupid babies need the most love.
Also, once again, I cannot believe the game that Bible and Build brought to this episode. They bring me to my knees with their fearlessness playing out this arc.
I'm just going to be over here in the corner, clutching my own face in the most agonized facepalm EVER.

On the subject of consent in recent BLs
In this analysis, I will take a look at several love scenes in recent Thai BLs, how they frame consent and the sexual agency of the characters, and why those matter.
(KinnPorsche deserves its own post: I’m sure people have already written in detail about how much emphasis is placed on issues of consent/non-consent throughout the show and how fundamental consent is to the relationship arcs of both KinnPorsche and VegasPete, and I won’t belabor the point here. Also, special shout-out to The Warp Effect for what it brought to the conversation about gay sex, but TWE isn’t technically a BL so I decided not to include it in this analysis.)
I am going to take a closer look at the following shows in this essay: Not Me, The Eclipse, A Boss And A Babe, Step By Step, and La Pluie.
Not Me and The Eclipse predate the other shows by two years/one year respectively, but I feel it is valuable to include them here because both show very explicit negotiations of consent that I feel are spiritual successors to the wonderful scenes we’ve been getting in the other three shows.
Why am I even writing this? There used to be an unfortunate tendency in the genre to have a power imbalance between the “seme” and the “uke” character, which translated into the seme deciding when to have sex and what kind of sex to have—and even though recently, several shows have done good work in dismantling the seme/uke dynamic and questioning the associated stereotypes, it cannot be denied that the archetypes are still an important part of most BLs, and even in cases where the tropes are played with and questioned, understanding those subversions still requires a knowledge of and familiarity with the original tropes on the part of the audience.
However, gone are the days of Until We Meet Again and Dean’s “I’ve waited long enough, make sure you’re ready.” (I enjoyed UWMA a lot but that was. Yeah. Not Great.) Now, we see characters actually talking about and negotiating their limits, and doing what feels good to them.
Let’s start from the very beginning. Not Me was an absolute trailblazer in this regard, and not mentioning it here would be a gross oversight. The first time Sean and White have sex, it happens in their version of the beach episode. (Which, in Not Me, is the two characters briefly living in a tent inside an abandoned building. This show is the best.) Sean and White are removed from their usual environment and protected from the outside world by two barriers: the walls of the old house and the tent that’s literally enveloping them and giving them a space that is unequivocally theirs, shared, in which neither one of the characters has any sort of power over the other. And what happens in that space when they’re about to have sex is extremely interesting: the first thing Sean asks is whether White is afraid of him, which White denies. The following exchange goes like this: White: "So, what are we doing?" Sean: "What should I do to you?" White: "That’s up to you." (Watch the whole scene here.)
I find this exchange incredibly meaningful because this already turns the seme/uke dynamic that can be found in a lot of other shows on its head. OffGun as a branded pair can easily be stereotyped into the seme/uke dynamic just because of their physical appearances, and clearly spelling out that both characters have agency in this scene is incredibly important.
And then it gets better! Sean assumes that White is sexually inexperienced (which is not true but the fact that White was actually in a relationship with a woman back in Russia never comes up again after the pilot episode, so maybe the show expects us to assume this, too), and suggests they try different things and White can tell him what he likes and doesn’t like. Compared to the stuff we’re getting now, this scene isn’t very high heat at all, but it’s one of my favorite intimate scenes ever because them asking each other “Do you like this?” after every kiss, every touch, is so incredibly unique and transports a wonderful sense of figuring out sexual pleasure together, as a couple.
Sex in Not Me is not something one character does to another, it is something that is discovered and shared together, and we even get an afterglow scene in which they gently tease each other about their fast beating hearts. (And don’t get me started on the importance of White choosing to ask Sean whether Sean is okay with White not being like Black in that moment right before they have sex, because he doesn’t actually want to have sex with Sean as Black! He wants to discover and share intimacy with Sean as White, as himself, not as his brother! The layers!)
Anyway, I think that scene paved the way for a lot of the conversations around consent we’re now getting in BL, just because it is so explicitly, unashamedly putting forward a definition of sexuality that has nothing to do with one character actively giving and the other passively receiving, but frames intimacy as something that is built together. (More on giving and receiving later!)
Now, moving on to The Eclipse. I decided to include the first time Akk and Aye have sex for a different reason: while we don’t really see them actually talking about consent, we see them practicing non-verbal consent. Let me explain. Akk’s and Aye’s whole thing is teasing each other. At first, Aye is usually the one doing the teasing, but Akk gets the hang of it towards the end of the show and teases his boyfriend right back. When they’re in Akk’s childhood bedroom together, Aye clearly alludes to the fact that he thought they might use this opportunity to have sex for the first time, which Akk pretends not to understand, all while alluding to it himself. I love this guy. (Watch the whole scene here.) Anyway, Akk says he wants to sleep, lies down and once again, tells Aye jokingly he just wants to sleep, clearly expecting Aye to do what other BL protagonists do at that point and not take no for an answer (sidenote: I HATE the “saying no as foreplay” trope with a passion and as far as I’m concerned it should die already).
However, Aye is not like other BL love interests, and he backs off. He stops touching Akk, lies down with his back to Akk, showing Akk that he takes him by his word: if Akk says he wants to sleep, Aye is going to let him do just that. So now, it’s on Akk to say that, no, that’s not what he meant, can Aye please come back to cuddle. And then Akk is the one to escalate from cuddling to kissing, which is extremely important: we know that Aye has been ready to have sex with Akk since forever, it’s Akk who’s been having hangups about intimacy this whole time.
They don’t put consent into so many words on this show, but Aye shows Akk that he respects his limits and that Akk only has to tell him he doesn’t want to do something and Aye will take him at his word.
So, these are, to me, two foundational scenes of establishing consent: one that shows consent as something that is established verbally, as an ongoing conversation, and one that shows consent as something that is established physically, by showing your partner that you respect their choices and limits by way of simply acting accordingly.
Now, let’s get into the fun part: scenes we got so far in 2023. I’m writing this post on the 13th of June, and I’m sure this year still has some great things in store for us, especially because Step By Step and La Pluie are both ongoing and neither of the main couples are actually together yet at time of writing. However, they’ve both already given us AMAZING scenes on the topic of consent, so I feel it is worthwhile to write about those already.
I want to start off by talking about A Boss And A Babe.
Let me just preface this by saying that the intimate scenes in ABAAB are some of my all time favorites in BL ever, because in them, sex is something that is just so normal. When Gun and Cher have sex, we don’t see them very passionate, excited, reluctant or wide-eyed innocent (which are some of the emotions traditionally associated with sex in BL). On the contrary, in every single scene that shows them being intimate, both characters are incredibly calm. They’re certainly happy to be with each other, but in a subdued way. Someone described their second intimate scene as them seeming like they’ve been married for a few years. They’re both just… incredibly normal about having sex with each other. It’s simply something they like to do together. It’s a part of their romance but it’s not more or less important than any other aspects of their lives.
And consent is at the very heart of it.
When Gun and Cher have their first time, we see Gun explicitly asking for consent two times: first, “Can I kiss you?”, then, “Can I do more?” The second one even comes with the promise that if Cher says no, Gun will immediately go to sleep without mentioning it again. And then it is on Cher to say yes, to pull Gun close and kiss him to show him that he is comfortable with taking things further. (In the show, these two questions were shown apart from each other, I cut together a version of the whole First Time Scene in its entirety, watch it here.)
Now, things get more interesting: the second intimate scene shows Cher initiating the encounter (watch the whole scene here). Cher pretty consistently falls into the uke category, both physically and as far as characterization is concerned, but he’s certainly not shy in the bedroom. And this time, he’s the one who asks for consent from Gun: Gun asks “You’re starting it?” and Cher’s response is “Can I?” Despite him being framed physically lower than Gun, basically at Gun’s mercy, he still seeks confirmation that Gun is okay with the way things are going. Not to overstate it, but to me, this feels revolutionary. Once again, we’re being shown that sex is something two people do together, as a shared activity, and that the “seme” character isn’t expected to just be up for it. He, too, has the right to say no.
On this show, sexual agency is taken extremely seriously, and it is clear that both Gun and Cher give each other space to decide what they’re comfortable doing. This is shown in non-intimate scenes as well: there are so many moments on ABAAB in which the characters negotiate physical touch and closeness, asking each other for hugs before actually hugging each other, Cher leaning on Gun’s shoulder in the car but not allowing Gun to touch him because that’s not what he’s comfortable with in that moment, and so on. (The only exception to this otherwise pretty consistent rule is the kiss in the car scene, which I’m still extremely confused about because it seems to go completely against Gun’s character. Who knows what happened there.)
Of course, the fact that so much emphasis is placed on negotiation and consent isn’t surprising on a show that has such obvious kink undertones and whose Our Skyy 2 entry basically consisted entirely of Dom/sub roleplay at work—I’m just saying, I think someone on the writing team is way into BDSM and knows all about the importance of enthusiastic consent from all parties involved, and I would like to send them flowers.
Step By Step hasn’t really reached the point where we can analyse the dynamic between the main couple (although we can take some educated guesses based on the interactions we’ve seen so far). However, last week’s episode had an extremely important scene between Pat and Put: Pat wanting to have sex with Put, then changing his mind mid make-out (watch the whole scene here). I really like the way this scene was done. No matter how shitty Put treats Pat at times, in this instance, he immediately understood and respected Pat’s change of mind without Pat even saying or explaining anything—at the end of the episode, Put says to Pat that Pat should tell Put when he feels ready to have sex. (We already know this will never happen because of course, Pat and Put are not endgame, but I do appreciate the sentiment.)
BLs rarely include a whole storyline in which the protagonist is in an actual, serious romantic relationship with someone other than his endgame love interest (hi Moonlight Chicken!), or if they do then just to up the angst factor. In this case, however, I feel that this scene raises our expectations for Jeng even further: if the guy who is definitely not a romantic match for Pat treats Pat with this much respect in the bedroom, then Jeng has to do at least that and then some. I do feel confident that Jeng won’t disappoint in this regard, but it’s fascinating to see a show frame this kind of respect as the absolute baseline minimum, with the endgame love interest expected to do even better.
Now, the one you’ve all been waiting for. The one that made me write this whole essay in the first place: La Pluie.
Oh boy. Where to start.
A week ago, we got an incredible make-out scene on Saengtai’s floor, which ended in Patts stopping the encounter because he could tell Tai wasn’t really comfortable taking things further—@bengiyo talked about that scene in detail here. And then, three days ago, La Pluie gave us the most unique, trope-defying, timeline-changing blowjob scene of all time, and I want to talk about it.
Tai and Patts are making out on their bed, Tai is not ready to go “all the way” and stops Patts from undressing him. We see a very realistic frustrated reaction from Patts, who nevertheless immediately stops and accepts Tai’s wishes—it is clear that Patts does not expect things to go any further at this point, and that he won’t pressure Tai into anything.
And then, Tai offers to blow him.
(Unfortunately, this show is only on iQiyi so I can't link to it, but you can get a good impression of the scene here.)
I mentioned the concepts of giving and receiving earlier: other people have said this more eloquently than me, but there is a tendency not only in BL but also in wider society to view sex in terms of giving and receiving, with a lot of expectations and stereotypes attached to the roles during different sexual acts. On other shows, that blowjob might be framed as a consolidation or an apology, something that the giver does out of a sense of obligation without enjoying it much. Not so on La Pluie! Tai is shown incredibly happy and satisfied afterwards, both when they’re sleeping next to each other, as well as on the morning after (see also @ginnymoonbeam's post about that here). Tai offered to blow Patts because he simply wanted to, not motivated by guilt or anything of that sort. And he genuinely enjoyed it! In the post I linked above, @bengiyo points out that La Pluie consistently centers queer desire, or more specifically in this case, male desire for a male body; much in the same way that the camera fucking loves Force’s body on ABAAB: the sensuality of the skin, the hands, the abs, the flat chests, the broad backs and shoulders of these men is explicitly emphasized, and Tai’s desire for a dick in his mouth is made absolutely crystal-clear. Of course, since this is a TV show and not a porno, we only see Patts’s thumb in Tai’s mouth instead of his dick, but the imagery, the implications, are clear as day.
And it is such a gentle framing, too: Patts caresses Tai’s lip lovingly, Tai opens his mouth slowly, seductively, then faces Patts’s crotch with a soft look on his face. We do get a clear sense of this encounter as tender, and gentle, and most of all, desired. Tai’s queer desire is at the heart of this scene, and at the heart of the afterglow scene as well. He wanted this man’s dick in his mouth, openly suggested it, showed Patts he was sure about his decision after Patts asked him whether he was, and ended up clearly happy and satisfied with the sex they had. This post, also by @bengiyo, goes into more detail on that.
This, once again, shows us sex as a conversation rather than a series of predetermined acts, shows us sex as a shared activity, as something that can be wonderful and intimate and make people happy without following what society views as “the correct steps”. I think this is extremely important because one part of queer identity is figuring out one’s own relationship to sexuality, one’s own desires and needs, and BLs that ignore this aspect fall a little short in my opinion. Sure, those men are kissing, but do they experience queer desire? Do they experience joy in their queer desire?
For me personally, a show that does not shy away from these questions is a lot more meaningful than a show that does, and consent is at the heart of it all. By framing sex as a conversation, as something that is built and shared together, the shows I looked at here are actively positioning themselves against the idea that there should be predetermined roles for partners during sex, and instead suggest that queer joy can be found in communication and consent. Understanding sex and intimacy as something that is built together, with both partners as equals in conversation, is just as radically queer as a man waking up with a smile on his face after giving his soulmate a blowjob the previous night.
And quite honestly, a male character who clearly, passionately, unquestioningly communicates that he wants a dick inside of him—that is incredibly sexy. But maybe that’s just me.

Because it’s come up with both @lu-sn lu and @theflowergirl Lily now, and because my dentist just sent another form letter expressing deep concern for my oral hygiene should I not schedule my biannual teeth cleaning posthaste, have some wacky fic idea-adjacent nonsense:
Vegas does Pete’s dental cleanings for him.
Pete did not particularly go to the dentist before he got the job with the main family, but the main family keeps one on retainer, and Pete hated going to see him. He found it horribly exposing to hold his mouth open like that, and he really did not like how much he wanted to bite down on the dentist’s fingers. He put up with it, because that’s what Petes do, but he always dreaded it.
Neither of them much likes medical professionals at all, actually, but Vegas sees to his own teeth pretty religiously. (He has to, he’s had veneers since he was eighteen. A smooth, even smile can work wonders.)
Vegas likes Pete’s teeth. He likes Pete’s smile, and Pete’s bite, and the specific way Pete chews his food. He wants Pete’s teeth healthy for as long as possible.
At the same time, Pete shouldn’t have to be uncomfortable except in those carefully orchestrated ways Vegas makes him uncomfortable, which are generally to their mutual benefit.
Vegas would not enjoy watching a dentist clean inside Pete’s mouth. (Pete would let him stay in the room, right?) The inside of Pete’s mouth is a sacred sort of place.
…Anyway, Vegas would be very jealous of the scraper tool.
Vegas does know teeth. He’s yanked a lot of them, albeit not for the benefit of the victims’ oral hygiene.
Why shouldn’t he clean Pete’s teeth himself?
note: doing dental work without proper training is a bad idea, but has that ever stopped VegasPete?
also here comes a readmore for non-explicit dentistry-adjacent kink Whoops
The dental mirror arrives in the mail first, and Vegas coaxes Pete into a practice inspection at the kitchen table that very evening. He realizes at once that they’ll need brighter light and a reclining chair—but though the inside of Pete’s mouth is dimly lit, and though his breath persistently fogs the mirror until Vegas thinks to warm it on the inside of his cheek, this first foray is enough to spark a thousand dark ideas in Vegas’s mind.
There is something to seeing the backs of Pete’s teeth—inspecting what is literally hidden behind his smile.
A vulnerability in the pink semicircles of his gums, maybe. The perfect fit of the teeth penetrating that clinging tissue.
And:
Pete’s jaw stretched wide.
The damp heat of his open mouth against Vegas’s fingers, perfectly exposed and made to stay open.
His tongue twitching like its own creature when Vegas presses it down with a gloved finger.
The slow build-up of saliva—throat muscles working to hold down his gag reflex before Vegas taps his chin and lets him swallow.
Pete’s eyes have dilated; sweat shines on his brow, and the mirror begins to fog worse with every warm-shallow breath.
The next time Vegas caresses the tops of his teeth, Pete bites down hard on his fingers.
…They abandon the mirror for other, more familiar pleasures.
Vegas buys a headlamp and a dental loupe online later that night.
To his credit, he does research teeth cleanings at this point. It’s not the equivalent to years of practice and training, but it’s something.
Then the curettes arrive with their fine metal handles and delicately angled hooks on either end; then the sickle-shaped scaler. Vegas has never held either, but they feel familiar in his hands. He’s always had a knack for instruments.
Pete looks at them in his focused grip and shivers.
His hate for dental cleanings may not be such a problem after all.
(Of course, all of this culminates in Macau walking in on them mid-cleaning in the kitchen. Vegas and Pete are actually pretty good about not doing literal sex things where Macau might see. However, many typically non-sexy things have a way of becoming weird sex things when Vegas and Pete do them.
Macau doesn’t know how this is a weird sex thing, but he knows it is.
Unfortunately, he doesn’t quite manage to nope back out before overhearing just how nice Pete’s gums are.)

ROUND 2: POLL #5
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ROUND 2 POLLS [HERE]
PROPAGANDA BELOW
Vegas Theerapanyakun/Pete Saengtham:
Got loyal bodyguard who will give his life to his mafia boss and the insane villain with daddy issues. NS/FW [SPOILERS] in brackets -> [Pete decides to fuck Vegas because of how sad and pathetic he looked after the sad passing of his pet hedgehog. Vegas eats Pete's ass out in his torture/sex dungeon safehouse that Pete had been a prisoner in up until recently. Vegas is a brutal murderer who kills and tortures like nobody's issue and then cries into his ramen because Pete chose to escape the safehouse instead of staying with him there. Vegas tells Pete he loves him while Pete is in the middle of beating the shit out of him]
Finn/Poe Dameron:
The two of them had so much potential from the moment they met. Poe was one of the first few people to treat Finn like an actual person and even gave him a real name rather than a number. Plus we have the infamous jacket scene where Finn goes to return Poe’s jacket that he pulled from the crash, now that he knows Poe is alive. Poe looks at him and how the jacket looks on him and says “No, keep it. It looks good on you” with a little lip bite.

hard and soft vegaspete headcanons please! i am utterly in love with your brain <3
aw, thank you, anon! right now me and my brain are on a friendship time out until it starts behaving itself again but I will pass that on anyway.
hard headcanon: For the first several months post-canon Vegas is absolutely terrified of doing something wrong. In general, absolutely, but one place this manifests is sex, where Vegas is torn between being absolutely ravenous and treating Pete like glass because he's not sure what the rules are and god forbid they talk about it. (They don't. Vegas knows they should, certainly, he understands that about BDSM procedure, but is he going to open that conversation? no. And Pete certainly won't.)
Now Pete, on the other hand, is losing his mind because after years of I think a largely lackluster sex life suddenly it feels like he is turned on all the time and by nothing and here Vegas is being all weird and tentative about it and it's driving Pete insane. And of course Vegas slips at some point and gets a little rougher and Pete is like "YES FINALLY" and then Vegas probably has a full-on panic attack and that kind of ruins the mood.
Pete is trying to be sympathetic, he really is, but it's hard when on the one hand he's like "come on, just stop thinking so much and move right along past all your troubles without looking at them like I do, it works for me" (it doesn't) and also like "you did this to me, fucker, are you going to do something about it or not?"
When things do eventually give and they start working it out it is kind of the worst, though. They're so unbearably all over each other. Things get weirdly sexually charged even if there are other people around, and it's not an exhibition thing, they just kind of forget about other people being there. Macau is suffering.
soft headcanon: I think Vegas loves giving Pete gifts. Particularly extravagant gifts. Pete will casually mention an interest in/wanting something and the next day it will be delivered to him with bows on by a Vegas who is, perhaps, ever so slightly desperate for approval. But it's also just about enjoying spoiling him a little! From Vegas's perspective he's very "poor Pete, he's never had anything for himself and he's never had disposable income to spend on whatever he wants so now I'm going to fix that!!!" and it's not like money is an object. Or at least he's not used to it being.
Frankly this makes Pete really uncomfortable. Ostentatious extravagance makes him feel funny! Conspicuous displays of wealth makes him feel weird and out of place and also vaguely anxious! He doesn't know what to do with this and also he's never had this much stuff in his life, where's he supposed to put it, some of this isn't even useful (which, I think Pete is deeply tied to thinking of things for himself in terms of utility) but he can't get rid of it because Vegas's feelings will be hurt.
Vegas does pick up on this eventually but his solution is less to change his strategy and more to adjust so that his extravagant gifts are less obviously extravagant. That kind of expensive that doesn't look expensive. Pete doesn't have to know how much that thing cost.
Vegas is just very much here like "nobody else has been spoiling Pete and someone's gotta do it" and Pete's like "no, nobody has to do that actually" and Vegas just ignores that completely.
Oh yes, also the cat, who Vegas sometimes calls "baby" in exactly the same way he talks to Pete.

It's damn nice both KP and LITA showed condoms and especially the fact that it seemed to be a given for both Vegas and Payu. Like, YES, safe sex ftw! We also love to see some damn good kissing and moanining (and a big shoutout to Kinn and Porsche for one of the best handjob scenes in the history of LGBTQ+ shows, goddamnit!) But as someone who likes anal sex every once in a while, THE LACK OF LUBE makes me roll my eyes so far back they're about to tumble down my spine. Look: just show a damn bottle along the rubbers, okay? We're entering some damn sensitive territory here, you know and while fingering isn't necessary, especially Rain is most definitely an ass virgin (sorry for not recalling Porsche's or Pete's cases) and while we love some face to face fucking, the position is just NOT PRACTICAL, PAYU! (Yes, it's hot and I adore it, but ffs, the actual, physical gymnastics here isn't realistic.) At least Pete's legs were up and resting nicely in those chains (good job, Vegas!) but what the hell was Kinn doing by that window? Porsche's legs were about as wide as a Chan's at ease position and we all know how relaxed HE was! It takes some fucking effort, you know! Porsche needed to bend some, at least and once again - where. was. the. LUBE!?!?? (Sure, we can all ASSUME it was there, but that's not the point!) The point is: It's perfectly good, fine and doesn't "ruin" the mood/scene to grab a bottle of lube or adding five seconds of adjustment to the position!!! Just because fingering (mostly) isn't needed, it doesn't mean you're all the way in within two sec, especially not with an ass virgin! There's no natural lube there, it can hurt. Show off the lube, make it a little real here, it's DRY down there and now that we've passed the "somewhat dangerous/mean/socipathic/violent/etc guy at least cares about consent and not spreading the clam" milestone, can we please add some much needed lubrication and perhaps a position that fits the occasion? All that aside, this old ass queer loves to see couples who have chemistry, who cuddle, grabs hold, kisses, moans, lets go and doesn't look like they're doing an assignment. I love the handholding, the pillow talk, the spooning, the way they really touch each other while fucking - and outside it. (Yes, vegaspete is a bit of another story, but the hospital scene was really cute!) Just... my dear, horrible, obnoxious, criminal, stupid, stuck-up, kinky, self-loathing, violent, scheming, over-the-rainbow-gay-or-bi sons: Stop. Tearing. Your. Lovey's. Assholes. Okay? /Love from an old auntie who knows what she's talking about

I love Boston and he deserves Nick.
Tumblr media
I get a lot of flack for having the chaos boys as my favorite duo of only friends. Sooo allow me to rant about my reasoning here. I get a lot of ‘ohhh you must like the sex scenes bet you like VegasPete’. No… actually… Sex is just a part of adult life. Im personally not interested in dick but I do like my characters to be realistic. Being promiscuous doesn’t make you an evil person. That isn’t my lifestyle but I can respect people who live that way. What I love about Boston is his confident persona that clashed with his smart cunning underbelly. I don’t think he’s malicious or narcissistic. Boston is a confident gay man who is loyal to his friends only. Now you might say wtf to that understandable but in Boston’s head he has done nothing wrong except let Nick get too close. Top is like him and in his logic Boston called dibs. He knew he’d be there for Mew when things went down but he didn’t expect everyone to find out about him and top. Boston probably thought he was accelerating to the end to protect his friend. I think this is also why he tells Sand Ray’s ass is fully owned by Mew. In Bostons mind he was helping Ray cut the bullshit. Boston is honest 90% of the time which makes him our most reliable character. AND YET WE HAVE YET TO REALLY GET HIS POV we know so much about him without being in his chaos mind. Do you know how impressive that is? We can also see Boston change from the start of the series being heavily effected by his fights with Top Mew Nick and Ray. He isn’t a 2d boy who falls in love and magically is fixed. While I think he knows what his feelings for Nick mean He intellectually has made the decision to reject him which makes me want their relationship to work out even more.
As far as Nick his oversteps are pretty normal for someone with too much tech knowledge on his hands. Yes it’s wrong. But terribly tempting when you have access to it and see how the world regards privacy as a fiction. I like how Nick tries his best to not fall for Boston it’s extremely endearing. Nicks heart wins out every time. I’ve been in have relationships with people that others say “hey that person is trash” but to me I like to look beyond the surface. Everyone has their own motivation. Everyone has their own struggle with social things so… it’s not fair to judge someone too quickly. Sometimes you click with someone forever changed with the touch of a hand. It’s not some fairytale. Nick wants to see Boston be happy and for him to actually see Nick is at his side. No matter what Boston does. Because regardless of other people their spark remains. Unfinished and true. Honest and Nasty. Chaos.
Together Boston and Nick make eachother better. Boston looks outside himself more often and Nick gains confidence. They do balance eachother out. I don’t feel like one is really the hunter and the other is the prey. They are both Savage it’s just Nick is quieter than Boston so gets out in the shadow. I’m excited to get to the point where they are both chasing eachother and hit into one another again.

i spotted some talk of ace vegas 👀 please continue if you want.
there's a lot of demi pete acknowledgement, but i can totally get why vegas would be a service top as an ace person
Hey there, anon! Thank you so much for sending me this! I'd love to expand on my thoughts actually, since I'm pretty sure I haven't stumbled across any posts that delve into this headcanon about Vegas. However, before saying more, I'd like to give 2 important disclaimers: 1. I'm not ace, or at least I don't think I am (sexuality has been a fraught topic to me for the past couple of years, I try not to think about it), so everything I'm about to say should be taken with a grain of salt - as well as be corrected if I say sth stupid or inaccurate, 2. The "ace Vegas" headcanon isn't an original thought of mine. A former fandom friend had mentioned it once in a server I used to be a part of, and it intrigued me. Now, on to the topic at hand. Apologies in advance, because this ended up being super long: Vegas' sexuality and how he expresses it has been a very interesting topic to me due to how much emphasis is put on it throughout the show. From the way he flirts with Porsche (horribly) to the way his room is decorated or the way he dresses and acts, the man oozes sexual appeal, so much so that he rivals Kinn, aka the horniest man on planet Earth. But the more we get exposed to it, the more it makes me wonder: is Vegas really a "sex freak" or is he using it as a weapon to win against Kinn? Because if Vegas copies other things Kinn does in order to win against him - the suits, the boyfriends, the mafia tactics - why wouldn't he copy his (presumed) sex life? Why wouldn't he try spicing up his image as this scary sadist with the cuffs and the whips and the XL vegan condoms, in order to rival his cousin? Adding the ace aspect here, it could also be a way for him to cope with the fact that he hasn't experienced sexual attraction towards anyone in comparison to Kinn (because it is of vital importance to me that everything Vegas thinks about himself is because of Kinn). He can see how Kinn stares at the men he fucks, he can see the hunger; it's sth he lacks. He feels inferior to Kinn due to this, he feels like a freak - as he told Pete, I'll expand upon that line later - so, he overcompensates for it.... ...which brings me to the mirror scene. Yes, that mirror scene. I'd say it's one of two scenes that could discourage someone from having the "ace Vegas" headcanon, due to how Vegas is alone and fantasizes about Porsche while (I assume) touching himself, BUT I have two counter-arguments to that: 1. Vegas is so deep into this facade he's put on that he's trying to persuade himself to feel powerful for managing to incapacitate Porsche, even though he eventually failed to do what he had wanted to, 2. Vegas isn't fantasizing about Porsche himself, but rather the thing he did to him, the act. He managed for a little while to have the upper hand on him, and that power makes him feel good (aka horny). Is it a stretch? Maybe. Since a lot of fans love Vegas being a hardcore sadist who practices BDSM (something I'm in the minority of), perhaps ace Vegas doesn't sound believable - even though a LOT of ace people practice BDSM, as is known. Now, let's examine VegasPete in this context:
Vegas hadn't shown any interest to Pete pre-spying shenanigans, and even then, he mostly taunts the poor man. Condoms and ass grabs and merits, that's the most he does to Pete up until ep10, when he has him tied up in his basement and tortures him. I do love how most of the torturing he does to Pete is sexual or has sexual implications (RIP Pete's balls). It emphasizes how Vegas uses sex as a weapon to achieve his goals, whatever those may be - which, in Pete's case, are just him trying to redirect his intense anger from his failure onto someone else. Vegas knows how powerful sex is - it's why he used it to drive Pete's attention away from his issues after they buried the hedgehog and Pete told him he shouldn't hit himself. And being ace, he's more detached to it (by not being attracted to the person he's using his tactics against), so he's better at it. He excels at it, it gives him a perverted sense of self-confidence. Now, their NC scene is one of my favorites exactly because of what anon mentioned: Vegas reads so much as a service top in it. He is 100% focused on Pete and how good he's making him feel. His own orgasm can very well be considered an afterthought and it's perfect. With all of this, I can't help but see the possibility of him being ace. The last 2 things I want to mention are from the next scene, because they're also arguments that could be used against this headcanon: 1) "Do you know how sexy you are?" and 2) "I thought I was a freak, until now" Ok, so, a question: if we take into consideration the idea of Vegas being ace - a Vegas who compares himself to Kinn, a Vegas who uses sex as a tool, a Vegas who thinks of himself as an unlovable monster, a Vegas who hates himself to the point of being suicidal - then what's the most probable outcome of him having the first actual good sexual experience in his life? Answer: he'll get hella confused lol What I mean by this, is that Vegas didn't suddenly become allosexual from this experience with Pete. Vegas simply... fell in love. (or, more accurately, the feeling that had been building up inside him since the pill kiss cemented itself in his heart after they had sex) And what do some people do when they have a similar experience? They confuse romantic love with sexual attraction, thinking they experienced one thing when they did the other. That's what I believe happened with Vegas. He thought he's not a freak because he figured he's sexually attracted to Pete, when in reality the poor fucker loves Pete romantically. If we can accept the fact that Vegas knows shit all about proper BDSM practices (Pete isn't even looking that up lmao), then he sure af doesn't know about the differences between sexual and romantic attraction. Hence, what he told Pete. I think that's all I wanted to say, which is a lot already haha, but in order to properly expand upon this issue, I needed to write an essay of a post. I'm sorry if it was tiring and thank you again anon for your ask ❤️❤️

Fuck this, I wasn't tagged by anybody but since y'all are making me insane sharing your lovely faves on my dash I gotta join the fun!
10 BL People That I Want Carnally
Just so we're clear, I'm immediately not limiting myself to 10. I'm bi. You think we have limits? (Tumblr says yes, but that's why I'm on desktop for this instead of mobile)
Night from Dirty Laundry
Tumblr media
Are we surprised? This awakened a whole thing in me. I was constantly yelling from the rooftops about my love for this man in the cheapest drag you ever saw. This is my JAM. I'm already trying to calm myself down making the first entry on this post. GOD. And his whole committed-to-the-bit romancing a mafia leader and then robbing her because he needs money, but really he's a wee romantic who just wants to write exciting stories like all of us bitches on AO3? Honey I am FREE at 5pm on Saturday. Also, shush, I know it's not a BL, I'm counting it as part of the Midnight Series as a whole :P
Yok from Not Me
Tumblr media
PAINT ME LIKE ONE OF YOUR POLICE OFFICERS. We already have matching tattoos babe. He isn't perfect but he's a well-intentioned mama's boy and has swagger.
Maya from Laws of Attraction
Tumblr media
Listen, I don't think much explaining is necessary here. I'm a woman but she can call me "pretty boy" any day. Is she just Silvy Pavida with a MILF wife? Yeah. That's the point. I'll join. They would let me.
Speaking of Laws of Attraction, Nawin
Tumblr media
I deserve an insane golden retriever boyfriend. I deserve a man who can't spell his ex's name but can get a pilot's license. He deserves someone who will enable his silliness, even when there's trouble with the accountant. *kisses all over his wing tattoo*
Togawa from Old Fashion Cupcake
Tumblr media
Mr. Hamster Cheeks my love <3 The dates would be so good. And so would the food. And the food naps afterward. I'm a good snuggler, he's tall and there's a lot to snuggle. Win-win.
Ink from Bad Buddy
Tumblr media
I know many of us are weak for Milk Pansa, but like, there's a reason for that. She gave us the ICON for lesbian side couples. Please, girl, scare men away from me when they mistake a boner for full-fledged love. Make me feel welcome and important and pretty and like I'm the specialest girl alive. Be taller than me ;)
Wen Qing from The Untamed
Tumblr media
She didn't die, actually, we just eloped together, haha. I just think as someone who studied medicine, she'd have a lot of good tricks up her sleeve and I don't mean acupuncture needles.
Saifah from Enchanté
Tumblr media
Yeah. I needed to use this gif. Get that record deal my man. Live your dreams king. I also love that he's both the old man and woman here. Impeccable. We deserved more of him.
Uea from Bed Friend
Tumblr media
Gimme this catboy realness right now. Also, I just love him so much. He owns his narrative despite all the shit he has suffered and gets everything he deserves for it. We could be besties even. We could be...no I shan't say it.
SamMon from GAP
Tumblr media
I just want whatever is going on right here. Let me join. Simple as that.
Tops and Marwin from Ingredients
Tumblr media
I'm this guy. Except I think they'd be sad to see the other with someone else so I gotta have them one at a time. Tops, who's a shy cutie who can make yummy foods. And Marwin, who is basically Jeff Satur just pumped with extra himboisms.
Todd from Not Me
Tumblr media
All principles out the window. He's evil, he's sexy. I know exactly how much that specific hotel room costs to stay in for a night. It would be luxurious.
Rain from Love In The Air
Tumblr media
I know most people would say Phayu, and for Boss, yeah I understand, I am all there. But something about the way that little guy can fuck kinda makes me dizzy, I'm owning that. He doesn't have to be smart, he's just gotta be given compliments. Plus, my bed sheets match!
VegasPete from KinnPorsche
Tumblr media
They altered me chemically once and I'd let 'em do it a second time and many more after that.

Second Couple Syndrome strikes again...
There is something really fascinating about a lot of second couples in shows where I find myself more drawn to them than to the main couple (VegasPete v/s KinnPorsche, DongheeXHotae v/s TaejoonXWonyoung, WinTeam v/s DeanPharm [i love you pharm...can i pay you to stop crying], SornThat v/s TanBun [i'm so sorry i'm actually lying here i'm obsessed with TanBun. But Sorn and That are fucking adorable and there's a reason why I mentioned them here hold awn], GunYok v/s SeanWhite, etc etc), and there's probably a few reasons. Maybe the main couple is too dreary/boring, maybe their story is uninteresting, maybe we're too used to the old couple and enjoy the freshness of a new couple with a new story and conflict. But personally, while all of these are true, I think the biggest factor is how much we don't know. We're given a taste of what they are, and are left to fill in the blanks for ourselves. It's the most incredible fandom cud that us fan cows are given to chew. (I'd argue it's this very thing that led to Between Us getting made, us liking what we saw of WinTeam in UWMA and wanting to know more).
Step by Step's side couple, Jaab and Jane, is very much shaping up to be the same. Not that they'll get their own show, but that we get to see just enough to make us want more, and yet not enough so we are compelled into thinking (and theorizing) about them all the time.
EP 5 SPOILERS AHEAD...
So let's talk about the two most important scenes for Jaab and Jane so far:
First is from Ep 3, when Jane is waiting with Jaab in the flat to be picked up by his boyfriend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, Jaab is the one to start, he's the one who raises his hand first to touch Jane's hair and cup his cheek. It makes sense for him to do that (emotionally as a character, not necessarily morally/ethically but that's not the point here), because he's in love with Jane and isn't really hiding it. Yet, he's still hesitant, trying to respect the boundary that Jane keeps reinforcing by reminding him of his boyfriend's presence. On the left, his hand his cupping Jane's cheek, but barely. His touch is feather-light, his hands are hovering millimeters above Jane's cheek.
In fact, it's Jane who crosses the line completely! Jane is the one to grab Jaab's hand, press it firmly against his cheek, hold it there securely, close his eyes to relish in the feeling. Jaab is obviously going to go along with it, because being with Jane is all he wants, so it was on Jane to stop it before it went any further, when instead he was the one to take it further.
Second is from Ep 5, after the team dinner back in Jane and Jaab's shared hotel room. Based on what I can tell, (because it feels a bit piecemeal sometimes, like there's scenes which happened off-camera, but maybe i'm just not paying good enough attention) Jaab is trying to apologize for something. Maybe fighting on camera? Or The Moment they shared back in EP 3?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once again, Jaab is the one who initiated the contact, the pinky-swear, but that's all he did. He tentatively reaches out to Jane, every time, and waits to see whether he is accepted to rejected in that moment. Once he holding onto Jane's finger, the tension in the room becomes palpable, and Jaab waits. He knows that technically Jane is not on the market, so worst case scenario even if he is rejected he'll understand why, and so he's patient. He just stays there, and waits.
And once again, it is Jane who bridges the gap between them, he is the one who moves forward slowly towards a statuesque Jaab and kisses him. Jaab makes sure that the power is in Jane's hand, and surprisingly Jane uses that power. Again!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even further into the scene, if Jaab were to keep going like this, he would just be content with whatever Jane was willing to give him , even if it was just a pinky-hold, so he doesn't ask for more (left). And once again, Jane is the one to first use his other hand to grab their interlocked hands together (right), and use that to yoink them closer together.
It's only been a few episodes, but time and time again it's the same ritual. Jaab expresses his love and affection towards Jane in a direct or indirect way, through his looks and his words and his actions, and Jane might usually remind him about his boyfriend so as to establish a boundary, and then Jane crosses the boundary that he himself drew to go towards Jaab. Jane is cheating on his boyfriend, almost with awareness.
And that's why this couple is so compelling to me. Other than this 'cheating', there's nothing about Jane that paints him as a bad person. Then why is he doing this? What is he thinking about when he does this, what happens when he's alone with his boyfriend? What is his boyfriend doing? What is happening is magnetic, and what isn't happening keeps us constantly guessing. Jane's actions paint him in a really grey light, and we can't help but question what his intentions are. For example, Jane has never once verbally acknowledged or reciprocated anything Jaab has said to him, but instead he has physically gone above and beyond, and that's still cheating. There's absolutely no clarity, for the viewers or the characters.
I'm obsessed with them.
