MORE random hcs that will potentially appear in my rewrite

not all of them are headcanons, some of them are lore drops that i decided to throw in for funsies

ive had this sitting in my drafts for so long

aphmau is obsessed with dating sims (this was inspired by me discovering blooming panic)

aphmau is a compulsive doodler. to the point where she keeps a little notepad in her bag so she doesnt draw on her hands

laurence is visually impaired/going blind

travis, garroth, and katelyn have all gotten their tongues stuck to frozen lightpoles in their lifetime

dante & travis are childhood friends and travis had a crush on dante in highschool

katelyn and lucinda met in middle school and have had a weird love/hate relationship since

cadenza, kiki, and zoey live in a neighborhood close to the main cast

nana goes by [kandi/honey/sugar] not kawaii chan (there was no way i was keeping that stupid nickname. havent picked which nickname shed go by)

aphmau loves dating sims and got katelyn and nana hooked on them too

nana is actually a magicks user just like in mcd

she uses her little maids to do her chores around the house (katelyn and aphmau hate her for it)

aphmau had a fnaf hyperfixation and infected the entire group with it

aside from nana, who hates anything even remotely spooky

during halloween on mystreet, aaron has dressed up as ghostface

everyone lost their minds

aside from aphmau and katelyn, who laughed at everyone losing their minds

nana actually has an intense fear of relationships which is why she obsesses over other people's relationships because she romanticizes them in her head

garroth, despite also being of the fruity variety, is the friend who buys anything rainbow and gives it to his gay friends

laurence has been and will continuously be the main victim of this

garroth also has no idea what a lot of the flags mean despite everyone reminding him

katelyn has bpd

and he frequently wears crop tops to show it off too

travis is a lil sleepy guy. if hes not doing something important, you can and often will find him curled up snzzing

and we love him for it

aaron is the friend that carries around shit for his friends

specific stim toys for specific people (chewables and clicky keyboards for aphmau, a puzzle ball for zane, soft weighted plushies for nana)

hes got a man purse /hj

aphmau has two long, jagged, faded lines on her back that she was born with. they look like were once deep scars

but theyve never went away and only seemed to have gotten bigger??

while not a big practicer of the craft, travis seems to be really good with witchcraft and magicks

no one knows what his magicks is though because both lucinda and nana have said it feels off

aphmau used to scare zane in a weird way. which is why (aside from just hating everyone and everything) he avoided her for so long before they got close

that fear is gone though

aphmau and zane have gotten hyperfixated on beetlejuice together and dressed up as bj and lydia for halloween and cons

1. Who or what got you into F1?

i grew up in a pretty big nascar family, my family would put it on the tv instead of watching the kids and natural progression i fell in love with motorsports. i do think a combination of seeing the tooned cartoon and me being fascinated by the engineering in the cars dragged me fully into f1.

2. Who was the very first F1 driver you supported? Do you support them now? Have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?

for me it was fernando alonso and jenson button. although jenson is retired i still watch him in his other series like nascar. i still support fernando as well although i feel like it passed the torch on to lando when he was the reserve for mclaren and then later took the seat at mclaren. if you cant tell im a huge mclaren girl.

3. Who’s your current favourite F1 driver?

lando norris and yuki tsunoda, cant pick one but yeah theyre my ultimate pookies 🫶

4. Is there a driver pairing or pairings you support? What made you attracted to that pairing in the first place?

my biggest driver pairing right now is lando and oscar, i think their pairing is what lando needed and what oscar needed and theyve already shown they push eachother so i cant wait for this season. my ultimate that i think about is fernando and mark tho, theyre my roman empire. from them always misisng eachother as teammates and then the infamous abu dhabi 2010. i could go on an essay about them (as a treat i also love nando and jenson)

5. Do your parents, siblings or relatives have a favourite driver?

no but i did get my friends and their cats into it. one of them is a ferrari fan and the other is a mclaren girl more leaning towards op81 but im gonna make her an ln4 girl soon. her cats are both mclaren cats but one only loves lando, she legit gets disinterested when someone else is on screen. one time she literally followed landos car off screen and my friend didnt even know that was lando so she was surprised her cat caught on to him.

6. Do you have any favourite races? Are there any that stand out to you the most?

i know i mentioned it before but abu dhabi 2010 is definitely one i watch a lot. 2020 austrian gp as well, even tho lando got the podium cause of disqualification it still holds a special place in my heart. Runner ups are silverstone 2023 and Abu Dhabi 2023 where pookies lead the race for a period of time.

7. Do you have a favourite circuit? Can be from the past or from the current calendar.

singapore is lovely, silverstone because of this year with lando leading the gp just really put it up there, and i think interlagos always has me excited, even if mclaren has a bad track record with it (please get your shit together for quali guys)

8. Have you ever been to an F1 race in real life? Feel free to tell us your experience going to one if you like.

ive never been to one theyre too expensive in america to go to one but i have been to a couple nascar races and those were so lovely. im hoping to take my friends and i to the suzuka gp next year tho (its so much cheaper please f1 sort your shitty pricing please)

9. Have you ever met an F1 driver in real life?

no and id rather melt into the floor than meet one

10. Do you have a favourite F1 car? If so, what is it?

i think the rb19 (rocky) has to be my fave rn if you asked me a year ago i would say otherwise but from an engineering standpoint rocky is the most beautiful piece of machinery ive laid my eyes on (excluding my beautiful b&m rollercoasters of course (my first love fr))

11. Do you have a favourite one win wonder?

not really tbh

okay so me and @max-iwtaco have been brainrotting about it yesterday but we're trying to include as many characters as we can think of XD

THIS ASK HAS BEEN SITTING IN MY DRAFTS FOR MONTHS NOW I THINK. ANYWAY

i wanted amy to be the main character bc like. look at her...

but okay so let me summarize what we talked about

-sonic and shadow both debuted when they were very young under competing labels. sonic does a lot of solo singing and rapping stuff, plays guitar, and dances (he specialized in breakdancing which is poggers), meanwhile shadow sings (he can do screamo if he wants. as a treat) and dances (he specializes more in interpretive type dance). theyve always been rivals, releasing albums around the same time and fighting for all the awards and stuff. and dont get me started on idol sports champio ships-

-so amy's dream has been to be an idol, and she took a lot of inspiration from sonic!! so she uses her tarot cards like in canon and it tells her to audition for the same label as sonic is under (tho im debating what to call it) and she does and makes it in!!!

-eggman runs a company. the one that team dark is under. team dark is a band with shadow on vocals and bass, rouge on vocals and electric guitar, and omega on drums. lets just say they have to buy new drums every performance.

-sonic also has a band with knuckles and tails, where he plays guitar, tails is on synthesizer, and knuckles is on drums.

-amy becomes a soloist but cream comes to all of her shows. she has special permission backstage to see her and be her emotional support. also they sometimes let cream on stage to sing a little song and the audience loves it. cream also has a kazoo

-knuckles's dad used to be the head of their company but knuckles inherited it. or something

-tails is a HUGE music theory nerd. he loves math rock

-amy dabbles in music composition (bc im projecting)

-tails and sonic knew each other since they were little and sonic would play guitar for him and tails started learning bc of him and then he got REALLY into music theory and became a big nerd. sonic cant actually read sheet music lmao

-sonic joined the company under the condition that tails joins with him and tails was so cute that they couldnt say no

-since knuckles takes care of the whole company now he doesn't actually perform concerts that often but when he does the audience goes WILD. you never know when youre gonna see knuckles. it's a gamble every time. on the times knuckles cant come play drums big will come to play instead

-big doesnt ever actually show upto practice bc hes too busy fishing. he just shows up and plays the concert and then he's gone again. froggy plays the cymbal

-froggy gets put on the concert posters and big doesnt bc big just shows up. froggy is the star of the show

-sonic raps while knuckles beatboxes. tails tries to rap and its adorable

-cream is the first to listen to amy's demos and comes to support her at the recording studio

-blaze does classical music and plays the violin. silver does techno style stuff. they collab a lot and sound amazing together

I absolutely cannot contribute my fair share to an architecture discussion as I know 0 about it but I would be 100% happy to listen

No thats totally fine i spent almost two hours rambling w my mom abt sociopolitical associations of some styles and she isnt too familiar either

But uh. I have many opinions i would love to share. On roofs and silhouettes. Gods i have so many thoughts about roofs

I will say the passion projects ive done have focused on the us and the western influences so my familiarity w architecture is very eurocentric but alas

First off: im generally a fan of gabled roofs. I like the triangles. Around 20 degrees is probably ideal

Also like. Look at this house its beautiful. Italianate fucks so hard, look at those windows! The tower!

Italianate actually tends towards really shallow hipped roofs, which i really love. Im not a huge fan of hipped roofs but the low angles + floor variation really sells it

Places hipped roofs do NOT look cool are the steeper angles in more uniform roofs, like in the classic ranch style shapes. Look at them. Wheres the flavor. These guys never even have covered porches, just garages too big for the building theyre attached to. I have mixed feelings abt ranch style

Like look how much flavor suburban houses add to their roofs. Yes suburbs objectively suck and only the street side looks good but the street side looks Very Good. All the gables and the intersections between the two different directions and that nice shaped dormer on the left. Huge fan of gabled dormers, the slanted roofed ones just dont hit the same

Also, and dont hate me for this, but i dont like craftsman style houses. Look at them. Their roofs arent as steep as suburban houses, w the 35-45 degree roofs necessary to provide enough variation between the many sections. Theyre just less interesting and so overdone—its like every western states upper middle class nuclear family ever, yknow? The style and colors have so little variation. You can do better, more inspired styles with those large wooden beams

Okay but back to silhouettes—one thing that never fails to improve a building are towers. Just look at the square italianate towers above, and look at the romantic area ~ideal fantasy castle~

(Fun fact the second picture is schloss newschwannstein. Ive been there its awesome and they really lean in ti the romantic aesthetic)

Like they add these nice little variations in form and height, rounded areas in seas of rectangles, and theyve got those awesome pointed roofs. Whats not to love, towers never lose. Also i just really love romantic architecture

Plus like. Scottish baronial style? Its romantic AND victorian inspired. Doesnt get any sexier than that

Look at the roof lines, the formers, the shapes. And those little tower protrusions on the right one, the tourelles? Those look so cool and theyve VERY typical to this style i love it. I love all the little variations of romanticism, especially the quainter Arts and Crafts style the gardens are always so beautiful

hms captain indeed!!

i meant for this to be a short post but oops its really long already and im nowhere near finished so if you wanna learn about this terribly designed warship, join me after the cut; if you dont, enjoy this picture of an oddly designed ship.

the hms captain was a british warship. it was built during a time where shipbuilders were phasing sails out for steam engines, and where warships were being much better armoured. for example, the hms captain was steam-powered with two propellers and had wrought iron armour.

wrought iron armour caused a problem for warships. like think of any pirate media youve seen where theyve got wooden ships with these iron cannonballs; the cannonballs very easily breach the wooden ships. they dont really do that with iron armour. instead, they bounced off.

so the british admiralty, media and public were all in want, to some extent, of a ship with better guns that could breach ship armour. enter cowper phipps cole:

a man who looks like a rasputin prototype and seems to have the charisma to back up the comparison.

see coles was very good at public engagement. when he needed to, he could very easily get the media and public on his side, which is a power he leveraged in order to get hms captain approved, commissioned and built.

his design, oddly enough, goes back to a raft from the crimean war.

this is the lady nancy, constructed in 1855 to aid during the siege of taganrog. it was for shore bombardment which you can see in this illustration of it. while cameras were a thing back then (i think daguerreotypes existed during this time), i dont believe we have any photos of the lady nancy.

coles was a captain in the navy in 1855, and him and a group of sailors constructed it. according to those there, the guns on the raft were protected by some kind of dome structure or a "cupola" as they called it.

hms captain was inspired by the lady nancy, and so, it was also intended for shore bombardment. for this purpose, two big fuck off rotating turrets were mounted inside the hull on the gun deck.

these had been patented by coles himself in 1859 which is partly how he became a consultant for the admiralty when it came to building ships. being the nephew of admiral lord edmund lyons 1st baron lyons gcb gcmg kch, by marriage, twice over certainly also helped.

quick note on that:

its not technically incest, i think, his wife emily pearson was lyons niece and his mom is the sister of lyons wife augusta

i also didnt know what those acronyms meant beforehand, gcb is a british order of chivalry called most honourable order of the bath, gcmg is another one: most distinguished order of saint michael and saint george, kch is a hanoverian order of chivlary called royal guelphic order. yeah thats just gobbledegook.

lyons was important because of his role in the crimean war as commander-in-chief of the mediterranean fleet (suddenly i feel like im reading an icemav fic) and hes credited as ensuring victory for britain.

originally, the admiralty just ordered prototypes of his big fuck off turrets and they were actually impressed with them.

and so the hms prince albert was built with four of them (is that four turrets in your pants or are you just happy to see me) and the hms royal sovereign was converted to be a turret ship. both, however, could only operate as coastal service vessels.

hence, the admiralty allowed coles to draw up plans for a two (2) turret oceangoing ship in 1863, working with nathaniel barnaby who was chief constructor for the navy. keep in mind, coles had little to no experience in ship design.

then, they suspended the project.

but they allowed him to work on a one (1) turret oceangoing ship that was based on the hms pallas with joseph scullard who was head draughtsman in 1864.

and then in 1865, a committee rejected/cancelled his projects, and decided to move forward with a different design for a two (2) turret ship called hms monarch.

this made coles very angry, and an angry coles is not a good thing for the british admiralty.

(i spent an hour making this because im so bad at making things look purposefully bad)

so you know like today where bad actors like andrew tate, tucker carlson, joe rogan and even like graham hancock can just use public platforms and social medias to get a relatively large portion of the population of their side, seemingly with ease, just by talking/communicating confidently, playing into fears and anxieties of the public, and creating an us and them?

yeah so cowper phipps coles was also really good at this. grifters, liars and pretenders have alway existed.

(milo rossi brings discusses this a lot in his series on hancock's ancient apocalypse docuseries, and id 100% recommend the whole series.)

so how did coles do this?

well, he began with a very strong and very harsh attack on robert spencer robinson who was a vice admiral and controller of the navy, and his full title was admiral sir robert spencer robinson kcb frs.

the title admiral sir is very funny, like i want to get a cat called that with the nickname addy. kcb is basically the same as gcb. lyons was general grand cross and robinson was knight commander, because of fucking course its this stupid. frs is an award given to you from the royal society of london; the fellowship of the ring royal society is granted to those who have made a "substantial contribution to the improvement of natural knowledge, including mathematics, engineering science, and medical science".

it wasnt just mr admiral sir that coles attacked; he also attacked several other admirals who were on the committee but he really seemed to hate robinson. coles also lobbied parliament and the press, focussing on the flaws he saw in monarchs design and how britain was going to be left behind in the shipping arms race since many other nations were pressing ahead with several oceangoing turret ships. unsurprisingly, it was the united states that were winning the race so far.

around this time, coles' contract as a navy consultant was terminated in january 1866. like thats as hard as he was going, he fully lost his job. of course he had his dear not-quite-incest uncle lord lyons to fall back on. one hell of a safety net, very well entwined.

in response to this professional fuck you, coles simply protested that he had been misunderstood and the man must have rolled a nat 20 on his charisma saving roll because on the 1st march 1886, he was re-employed.

he waited a month and a half to submit his critique of the monarch proposal on the 16th april. he refused to publicly support a vessel that didnt represent his "views of a sea going turret-ship" because He Was Like That™. we're in the cowper karen era. his critique went on to say that hms monarch could not give his "principle a satisfactory and conclusive trial."

now at this point, the admiralty really should have just sent him packing. theyve given him chance after chance after chance despite him having pretty much no experience.

like say you have a blocked toilet that you cant unblock, but instead of calling a plumber, you ask your friends nephew whos an art curator who really wants to give this plumbing thing a go. then his first attempt makes it worse; now the taps in your bath turn on everytime you use the kitchen sink and your toilets still blocked. but you give him another go and now theres a shower curtain stuck in your toilet which is still blocked. and now youre fingers are hovering over the call button on a plumbers number when your friend calls and asks you to give their nephew another go. its only been three weeks and theres a 24 hours mcdonalds up the road that you can go to for the bathroom and youve got a shower at work you can use, so you think, okay, sure. and then he accidentally rips your kitchen sink out and you still have a blocked toilet and a non-working shower and your bath taps are running 24/7, and your friend asks you again to give him a "second chance."

like youre not giving him another chance, theres a goddamn shower curtain in your toilet and your kitchen sink is in your fucking living room. of course, youre not giving him another chance.

but say everyone in your street and everyone in your friend group is on his side because hes been telling little lies and charming them all with his aunts baked goods and his knowledge of local art and history. and everyone else is rooting for him and they all believe this is the chance.

thats the situation first naval lord admiral frederick grey (full title: admiral the hon. sir frederick william grey gcb) found himself in. obviously coles should not be given another chance, but the whole country believes he should.

so on the 21st april (thats me moms birthday :)) he agreed that coles should be allowed to build his "perfect" oceangoing turret ship.

and so the hms captain was born

the ship was to be built on a private shipyard and coles selected laird brothers' chesire yard on the 8th may 1866.

one of the biggest problems ship designers had with turret ships is that ships tend to have quite a lot of rigging that gets in the way of the turrets. this was a genuine design flaw for the hms monarch, it was brought up by the chief designer sir edward james reed kcb rfs, but he was overuled. he didnt think a turret ship should have either a forecastle or poop deck.

on a typical warship, youll see a small rise on either end of the ship. at the front/bow, you have the forecastle which was typically used as a defensive measure. at the back/stern, youd typically have the captain quarters within the hull and the roof of that is the poop deck. it would be used for either the captain or a helmsman or a first mate maybe to supervise the crew and their work.

reed, very correctly, did not want these measures because they interfered with the turrets. he also wanted much less rigging because the more wooden beams and rope and sail youve got, the less room the turrets have to fire.

he wrote that "the middle of the upper deck of a full-rigged ship is not a very eligible place for fighting large guns."

and coles and the lairds seemed to agree with this sentiment because their design corrected these flaws.

their solutions were to erect a hurricane deck to place the rigging on. this is an upper deck that is above the frame of the hull. they also used tripod masts to reduce rigging. they also placed the turrets within the hull in their own special gun deck.

now, just because youve corrected for some flaws doesnt mean you havent introduced several of your own which spoiler, the captain had a lot of flaws which we will be getting into.

captain had a length of 320ft or 97.54m; she had a beam (width at the widest part) of 53ft3 or 16.23m; her draught (the distance between the waterline and the keel/bottom of the hull) was 24ft10 or 7.57m; and her top speed was 15 knots which is about 17mph.

in a futile attempt at a balanced view, i will say that the speed was fairly impressive. most other ships had top speeds of 10-12 knots or about 11-14mph. the use of double propellers was a good choice.

see the captain was designed to displace or essentially weigh 6910 long tons, and was expected to have a freeboard of about 8ft or 2.4m.

a ships freeboard is the distance between her exposed upper deck and the waterline. typically, warships have high freeboards. its not quite as simple as the higher the freeboard, the more stable your ship is, but in general, higher freeboards do offer more stability. this is something the captain needed

see, most of her weight was high up in the ship which meant she had a low metacentric height. to not get into all of the complicated science that im not entirely sure i understand (dyspraxic nation rise up), lower metacentric heights tend to make ships more unstable.

so all of this is a bad design. apart from her impressive speed, she seemed like a ship with poor stability and a real risk of flooding because of the exposed gun decks. and with flooding, you might just fucking capsize 🚢⬆️↗️↘️🌊☠️

mr admiral sir robert spencer robins already raised concerns at the design stage in regards to the low freeboard and flooding. reed also raised concerns about the ship being too heavy and having too high a centre of gravity, but they were ignored.

if i had a nickel for every time edward james reed was overruled after raising a legitimate concern about the design of a turret ship, id have two nickels, but its weird its happened twice.

still, first lord of the admiralty (genuinely feel like this is a made up job) sir john pakington approved the design on the 23rd july 1866, though he did note that coles and the lairds would be held responsible for any failures.

if youre interested, john pakingtons full title is john somerset pakington 1st baron hampton gcb pc frs and he was a fucking tory, and the right honourable lord hampton, which okay, dude, you overcompensating for anything over there? pc means he was a member of his majestys most honourable privy council, who are all advisors yes-men to whichever bellend is on the crown.

moving past that cag-mag of a man, lets talk about how this mess got even worse. and you might be asking, "kai, how can it get worse? havent you already told me that the ship can easily sink?"

and you know, fair point, but you can always make your ship even more likely to sink.

see coles came down with an illness during the building of the ship. im not sure what it was; i cant find anything on it, but whatever it was, it meant he couldnt supervise the building of his ship. now, im not sure how much that would help considering he was the art curator turned amateur plumber in the metaphor, but maybe it would have done some good.

because when she was finished, she did not displace 6910 long tons. no, she displaced 7767 long tons. and her 8ft freeboard turned into a 6ft6 or 1.98m freeboard. she was floating 22 inches deeper than expected. oh, and her centre of gravity raised by 10 inches!

reed didnt just raise hell over this, he dragged heaven down too. and its not like he was wrong. the ship was a floating disaster.

hms captain had an angle of list of 21°. this means of she listed 21° or more, she would capsize.

now, theres no real average angle of list, but most people would say 40-50° as a reasonable yardstick. for some vessels, it might dip into the 30s°, but 21° is a ridiculously low angle of list.

for reference, this is a 20° angle.

its not much of an angle, is it?

and remember, the captain is meant to be an oceangoing vessel. the oceans dont exactly have a reputation for being calm.

unless youve got a direct telegram to poseidon and are in a place where you can ask him to calm down, the captains not gonna have fun.

and of course when reed raised his concerns, he was overuled.

if i had a nickel for every time edward james reed was overruled after raising a legitimate concern about the design of a turret ship, id have three nickels, and its kinda concerning that its happened three times.

instead, she was commissioned on the 30th april 1870 under captain hugh talbot burgoyne vc. to commission a ship is simply to place it into active service. also vc simply means burgoyne received the victoria cross whatever that one is.

anyway, she underwent several trials in the months after this and i guess everyone had pre-ordered their rose-coloured glasses because the captain won many supporters and was considered everything that coles had promised.

part of these trials were the gunnery trials. these took place in vigo and the captain was against both hms monarch and hms hercules, a non-turret ship. their target was a 600ft long, 60ft high rock. they each had 5 minutes of continuous firing.

all three ships had problems with aiming after the first few shots because the smoke emitted from the weapons meant they couldnt fucking see anything.

still, hms hercules had an accuracy rate of 65%, while hms monarch came in with a 40% rate and hms captain limped in with a 35% rate.

and im not just using "limped" as an exaggeration, these trials showed that when the turrets fired, it caused the ship to list and the list was 20°.

im sure you can see the problem there.

if you can, youre better than the admiralty who just ignored it and was like fantastic, she works. coles straight up had the entire admiralty hostage and the only person speaking up was reed.

if i had a nickel for every time edward james reed was overruled after raising a legitimate concern about the design of a turret ship, id have four nickels, which is great and all but id rather give reed a hug at this point.

now the 35% accuracy didnt really matter if the captain was going to be used for shore bombardment. most of the time, youre not aiming for anything specific, youre just trying to cause as much damage as possible.

but that 20° list? that mattered.

it mattered a lot because on the 7th september 1870, she capsized.

shocking i know. only five months after being commissioned and everything.

that day, she was running trials in the bay of biscay during a storm when she was hit by a gale of wind. she rolled over and capsized.

there were over 500 people on board and only 18 survived. coles was among the dead. i hope their souls were able to find peace.

theres a memorial for them in st paul's cathedral in london if youd ever like to pay your respect to them.

now theres not much else to say about the captain other than the inquiry into the sinking blame the public for it.

they concluded that "the captain was built in deference to public opinion expressed in parliament and through other channels, and in opposition to views and opinions of the controller and his department" and this was pretty significant in victorian britain as it was unprecedented.

but realistically, it wasnt wrong. they were the ones backing coles the whole time.

so i guess if theres something to learn from this mess, its that if youre going to support a public figure, whether it be a celebrity or politician or scientist or whatever, take a step back and ask yourself "do i agree with what theyre saying or are they just very good at talking?"

im sure someones said it better than me, but you know, that sentiment. we can also laugh at how much of a disaster hms captain was.

every now and then i get an idea for something in my uni and i have to marinate on it but man...

(rant underneath, cw for on-graphic discussion of amputation)

for a while now ive been seeing some cool robotic porcelain-esque arm designs on pinterest and theyve made me think. essentially i saw an opportunity for angst and now i cant unsee it. to cut to the point: what if one of my characters, the MAIN ones, lost their arm/both their arms? it would satisfy my need to finally use the different pretty robotic arms ive been seeing as inspiration PLUS its additional angst and a win is a win. it could be fun to design. NOT TO MENTION the story potential of something so big happening.

COUPLE OF PROBLEMS WITH THAT THO. losing both arms? kind of a big deal. i dont wanna do it for a background/side character, i want it to actually be a big deal and to have impact. but again, its a huge thing and i would have to write a whole lotta scenes and stuff for it, so it doesnt just happen and never get mentioned again. besides i am not sure on WHO it would even BE.

Seph and Ellie feel off-limits, considering all the other shit they have going on already and them not having arms for ANY period of time would be a problem, when a huge part of the plot relies on them DOING THINGS AND GOING PLACES. im not including Huen, David, Angelica or Maffi on the list either, as they have pretty solid arcs and dont need any more content for their stories.

HOWEVER. there are James, Cyan, Dots and Lucy, plus Angele if i wanted to be REALLY horrible. Angele could be an interesting candidate, but again, i feel like she has enough content already.

James' arc is mostly about him finding that hes not useless and gaining confidence, despite his magic being the weakest of the main group (he has Angelica Emperor to thank for some of it, cuz yk, she doesnt have any magic at all but shes still formidable and she helps him out a lot). he doesnt need that much dark stuff in his story.

Cyan? they were my first choice i think, but then i rememebered they already have a big thing with turning back time, which leaves them with wounds all over their body and makes them unable to use their magic for a good long while. them losing their arms ON TOP OF THAT would be overkill and would be decommissioning a very useful and fun character for basically no reason.

Dots... could be interesting. since shes a healer and feels like her team depends on her being able to help them and keep a cool head, having her UNABLE to help and hurt to that extent would be crushing for her usual composure. having her see her team pull through for her with helping her recover would let her see how much they appreciate her and that shes not alone. PLUS her girlfriend, Lucy, is a scientist. the idea of Lucy making new arms for her could be fun to explore.

speaking of Lucy, she's my prime candidate i think. also, for some reason whenever i had the idea to premanently kill off one of the main characters for dramatic effect, it had always been her. rest assured, i no longer want to kill her for dramatic effect. but i have considered it. multiple times. it wouldnt bring anything into the story tho, which is why i scrapped it. having Dots help Lucy design the arms for her and then having to find someone capable enough to construct them? could be a fun sidequest for my favourite lesbians (ommitting the missing arms thing of course). plus having prosthetic arms that she designed herself would be a fun aesthetic to explore PLUS since she deals with chemicals a lot, having artificial hands would make it so that shes less at risk for chemical burns and stuff. IT KINDA WORKS AND THATS WHAT SCARES ME.

another thing is that, like i mentioned, if it was Lucy (or even Dots if i played my cards right) i have a whole new side character i could bring into the story. and while, sure, i have a lot of ocs already, but i wouldnt be making a COMPLETELY NEW ONE. instead i have two unused ocs, one SUPER old and one that ive been toying with for a while on how to bring them into the story. if i made them ONE character and gave them a purpose in this story, its another win-win.

but then again, do i have the balls to actually cut of someones arms. technically i could compromise and make it so that the oc of choice loses only one hand, but it feels kinda... overdone in a way? i feel like characters losing both arms is less common. besides, go big or go home. either no arms are lost, or both are. but also it could be a bit too dark? idk ive done some horrible shit to my ocs and given them trauma beyond reason but this somehow feels too evil :|

excuse anything that doesnt make sense or spelling errors i currently have a migraine lol

this is just surface level stuff that shows who they are as a person

okay so bitzy started off as a clownsona that i could imagine saying what i was really thinking to customers/coworkers whenever i got mad at them when i used worked in customer service lol, it really helped me chill out and control my emotions

they were originally a character that i imagined doing badass stuff to music when i went on 4 hour long car rides every weekend for half a year, it helped pass the time and keep me sane

but yea bitzy very early in development was just the embodiment of what customer service does to a mf

inspiration for them: The Collector from the Owl House, Steve from Big Top Burger, The Ice King from Adventure Time

they go by they/it

VERY gender, will wear anything

but will scratch at their skin if its exposed so they tend to wear clothing that covers their limbs

they have adhd and theyre autistic, they dont/are unable to mask

theyre immortal, they can die (usually it happens in the stupidest and funniest ways), but they keep coming back, because their worlds rules say that theyre supposed to be there, always

they are inorganic (by earth standards), along with everying in their world

theyre a literal creature, able to contort and warp their body into anything, usually unsettling scary shit

they became a god-like entity, accidentally

that gods purpose is to observe and experience

though they are not the leader type, preferring to be lead by someone else

they dont need to eat, sleep, or drink due to being immortal, but they occasionally do if they want

as a clown they should enjoy performing for others, but they do not, instead preferring to do so alone and only for themself

they cant navigate a conversation when theyre involved in it but if theyre just observing they can easily figure out intentions of the conversing parties, things those involved in the conversation wouldnt be able to decipher at all

many try to befriend them for selfish purposes and bitzy can tell, they can always tell, theyve always been able to tell

it doesnt have a reflection

theyre vehemently TERRIFIED of bodies of water, especially the ocean....

is also scared of being in a car, but not the car itself.... wonder why....

they find it funny to be chill and silly around people they know are terrified of them

they also just tend to overreact as a joke, getting fake mad at little things just to be funny

powers can be emotion based though, and boyyyyy do they have some big emotions

has a gripe with technology

is not aware of peoples personal bubbles

never comforable enough to be vulnerable with anyone (anyone except for daydream)

despite being a chaotic and probably annoying person to be around theyre a good friend, who often puts their friends needs before their own, but they only have one friend that this is applicable to lol

can be unintentionally funny by being painfully truthful/blunt

struggles with reading due to brain damage, is more of a physically active person than a mentally active person anyways

if i havent made it clear enough, they are a complete outcast, but by no fault of their own, even before they lost their marbles they tried everything to get people to like them for them. it never worked...

theres a big 'secret' about bitzy i havent revealed yet but.... maybe this spotify playlist of songs that vaguely tell bitzys story will be a helpful hint ;3

Sorry, I absolutely 100% LOVED this, because bruh, you've got a whole universe of CT:OS headcanons in the form of tiktok dances here. (How very, very '21st century modern art' of you).

I especially especially loved the idea of Tobin and MC dancing/jiving to music at Valentina's in public (or wherever, really, at a party, maybe during a random lunch stop as they drive to an away game etc.) just for fun, and just being ridiculously good at it and being cheered on by everyone watching, and then driving back from somewhere and finding some little pocket of time to dance for just themselves, with everything/everyone else melting away. Also that one with Sam dancing ridiculously with MC: I can 100% see that happening with those jokers.

I am also 1000% in love with the idea of a coordinated doubles partner victory dance, and it is absolutely canon that Tobin would do that with MC. In fact, it's so canon that I'll give you my word to write that in. Rayyan will be... far more difficult to persuade, though :P

Also - you are absolutely right (that was some high level literary analysis you did on Merry Crisis HAHA) I didn't even realise I'd jam-packed so many music-related scenes/concepts/choices into (both) IFs. Super cool how you've got so many threads linking Qiu and Nat and your family in one playthrough alone. You're going to think this is absurd but Shay is also (and this is canon) a drummer in a band? I'm SORRY I PLANNED IT ALREADY, BEFORE I READ YOUR ASK!!

I guess it just happened because for me, music has always been so intimately entwined with memories (both good and bad), and spending time with people I love (family, friends, romantic partners). I don't think there's been a big moment in my life that I don't associate with some song or music.

So I have a slight fever and keep seeing Scream VI trailers and have Tony Revolori on the brain and like...

I really hope his "death" in the trailer is a red herring. Im not only going to see the movie cause of him. Buuuut he is a big draw for me.

In the trailer, we see him with a ton of horror movie merch in his apartment. (People on reddit/twitter pointed it out. Im not a big horror movie buff so I didn't notice.)

Being a horror fan was obviously the traits of the killers in the first movie. And semi in the rest tho really just the first. The other movies the killers all seem more inspired by the first movie more than anything.

And I just think itd be cool if Tony is one of the Ghostfaces. Which he probably is? Especially since there are multiple Ghostfaces and they might actually have the cult of Ghostface in this movie.

But man. If he is a ghostface and still dies so early, bleh. If Tony is gonna be evil in a movie I want more than a small scene! Give me a full evil monologue! Let him be hot while doing it!

I hope after he "dies" he comes back later in the movie and all the Ghostfaces are working together and more of a challenge than theyve ever been.

I know Tony was added to the cast last minute. And everything in the trailer points to him being the horror geek who dies like in the other movies. But I love him so much! He deserves bigger roles than geek who dies 😫

Hey i think ive sent compliments about ur stranger things fic on here before too but skdhdk i recently reread it again (at this point i think i do come back to it once a year lmao) and i just had to come back here again because i feel like its only gotten better on the reread!!! Everytime i remember what a disappointment the recent seasons of the show have become i come back to ur fic and am always astounded by the amount of care you've put into the story and the affection you have for the characters and truly fleshing them out the way you did. Especially a big fan now of the way you tackled the question of "how do we decide something or someone is a monster" on the latest reading between neil hargrove tuning into his radio, james harrington deciding who were real people and who are the monsters who needed to be contained, and ofc the little girls who knew themselves to be monsters now because of things theyve gone through but still try their best to hang onto things they love. Something i didnt pay attention to on the first reading but now i cant stop thinking about it!!! Esp with how jonathan immediately forms a rapport with the abused children instantly because he knows what its like to inherit that monstrousness from violence thats been done to you and desperately wanting to rise above it + the sympathy w which you wrote kali genuinely put this above anything the show could put out at this point. Maybe ever because i dont think the show could truly ever commit to the political stance its first season demanded. Thank u so much!!!!! I liked how now that theres smth of a positive relationship bw hopper and kali, theres potential for a kali and sara hopper team up in the future and possibly how hopper can keep in touch if sara ever decided to reach out.

Optional question for u to respond to: in the story its constantly referenced that jonathan met steves dad at some point and that was probably when steve was told that he wasnt to hang out with the byers. Im guessing that was when joyce dropped him off that halloween cause thats when steve started finding loopholes to meet up with him? I just wanted to know if that would be a correct assumption, and i was wondering how that encounter went down lmao

(btw the choice of making jonathan and steve childhood friends + steve and nancy always being jonathans first loves and them eventually falling into that same configuration the two of them promised each other even when jonathan was the only careful custodian of that memory and never brought it up???? FUCKING INSPIRED. I've never gotten over it ever. Steve admitting in his "rewritten history" bits that jonathans smile made him feel like a bullet train????? Thank you! I really wanted a big part of the fic to be that no one's 'hero moment' has to be killing a monster with a bat- hell, I maintain to this day that Steve's was just apologizing in S1- and that it can just as well be empathy and kindness.

Yeeeeagh. I don't remember if I had a thing for this? It's been a few years. The Halloween thing is from The Wolves in the Walls which was the original first chapter of this when it was still gonna be a 5 chapter character study instead of a you know, novel. I think in the fic proper it was that his dad was just around more when he was in grade school and just started to have to leave constantly when the project really ramped up around when Terry Ives/Ken/Gloria/Alice joined and 11 was born?

talkin' about ~BRAND NEW WORLD - SECTION 1 and 2~ from 'UNITRES Dreams'

today i feel like talking a bit about my game, UNITRES Dreams. specifically, the levels 'Brand New World - Section 1' and 'Brand New World - Section 2'. ive been meaning to talk about this level for a Long while, but couldnt figure out how to put my words together... i hope this is an interesting little read for you...

these two levels were the first levels ever created for the game. for a little backstory.. UNITRES Dreams started as just a small tech demo made in 4 days for a little game jam. at the time, it was just called 'UNITRES - Tech Demo' and was just made to explore some concepts i had. things were a Lot simpler in this demo... the controls and overall movement was simpler, the art design and level design was rlly simple as i didnt know what i wanted to go for with this game yet. one key difference in this early version of the game is the Music.

the demo used a few placeholder tracks from other people, such as the track for the first section being a megaman remix. but the second section uses a song called 'Fuwa Fuwa Brand New' by Halcali.

this song is actually really important to me... i first heard it in a video in the Sonic 2 Special Edition series and it Immediately entranced me. I ain't good with words or describing music, but to me the song is very upbeat but melancholic in some way if that makes sense. i was in a really bad place mentally when i first heard it but it really inspired me to make something new... it wasnt Entirely responsible for the creation of UNITRES but it was a really big part of it and its still one of my favorite songs to listen to...

Anyways. the song was a big inspiration for the mood i wanted to go for in the game and this particular level. for a bit of explanation of the Story going on in this level... before the level even starts u get a cutscene where trees "explains" what is about to go on in the level, saying they're going to break into some facility for some burgers, and you're just dumped into the level with no real context as to what's actually going on. Section 1 starts out with Trees quickly running through and killing the strange, mutated creatures inside, until you get to Section 2 where the mood suddenly shifts and Trees becomes carefree as they reach what they've actually been there to do. I dont want to talk about it too much just yet, but in the background of section 2 you can see a large purple light brightening up the strange organic structures surrounding it... this purple light is one of the seven Eyes which have been a subtle important part of the game's story, and Trees is after it so that they don't make a mistake theyve made before.. most of whats going on this level is barely communicated and also mostly exists in my head, but i hope you can see a little of my intentions. the halcali song fit so well for me, as it's a very uplifting song being used in a level where Trees is about to do something Very Terrible Which I Won't Talk About Yet after they've just been through something Very Horrible which is not communicated with in the game. and the song gave the perfect feeling for what i wanted to do...

But Anyways... eventually when i made UNITRES Dreams into a full game, i wanted to have a completely original soundtrack for it. it was really difficult to put together however, as i was like 17 when i was making it and i had no way of making money and didnt know a whole lot of composers (especially ones thatd be willing to work on my silly little game). But then, shortly after the original tech demo that i met RRThiel and then slowly started getting a whole team of composers.. i am so lucky to have the soundtrack UNITRES has now and im so greatful for all the composers who made it for my silly little game and i beg all of you to check out the soundtrack and all the composers, they are all wonderful.

Anyways. about brand new world's new music... for most of UNITRES Dreams' development i was unable to get anyone to make music for it. it was pretty low priority as i had to find people who could make music for the rest of the game, but it was still Really Important to me as i wanted someone who could capture the same feeling i was going for with the placeholder music. it wasnt until near the very end of development that i got MiniMacro and R3tronaut to make the tracks for the two sections...

MiniMacro worked on the track for Section 1 and it came out really freakin good.. the song sounds really Urgent and it fits really well and he did a really good job and you all should check out his work and the games he made. What i especially want to talk about is R3tronaut's song for Section 2..

i don't really have any favorites in the game's soundtrack as all of the music is unique and fits really well for their specific parts and i love every track in this game deeply, but if i Had to pick a favorite , R3's track for Brand New World - Section 2 would be Really close. once again i am bad with words but is such an Emotional but upbeat and magical song that it manages to capture everything i wanted with this level so much.. i love how both level's sections music came out and the tone shift that suddenly comes with this track.. it fits the weird little story that i have going on in this level... anyways ummm You Must look at all of R3's music and buy all their albums.. NOW !!! EHHEHEHE!!!

anyways. one last little thing i will tell you.. originally in the tech demo, after beating the boss you get a really basic cutscene which shows the Trees character going to sleep, which ended up setting up the plot for UNITRES Dreams... but i removed the cutscene in the final game and never replaced it which im still upset about as nothing really communicates what happens after the level. Originally, UNITRES Dreams wasnt even supposed to exist and the cutscene was just to set up for something completely differnet, but after making the demo i Really wanted to explore more of the gameplay and story... and so i started working on UNITRES Dreams...

thats all i feel like talking about right now. i am tired and want to eat food. maybe i should talk more about this game sometime...

Oh btw that last sentence was before i wrote any of da other Big Posts i made. i actually have had this in my drafts for A While and wasnt sure how to properly put my words together. im still not sure if i did a good job talking about this... oh well. ummmm play unitres dreams on newgrounds dot com , teehee !

Ohh Ohh Actually SIKE !!! before igo i should actually talk about The Level Itself... i just realized at the end of typing all of that that i havent even talked about what the level Plays like and how it Looks and how it was made... Well. being the first level in the Entire Game, it is Incredibly Basic and Linear. since the controls were simpler, the challenges in this level were just basic platforming challenges with enemies thrown around. in Section 2, i introduced gravity swapping mechanics which i Like. some people have complained about it, but honestly i like how the controls are reversed when upside down.. it makes more sense to me. Also, being one of the earliest levels ever made, i wasnt actually Sure how to make the artwork, so everything is very simple and basic. Actually, the palette and a little bit of the art is was updated in the v3.0.2 update which is shown in the screenshots.. so things are a little more vibrant and prettier than they were in the original tech demo. Last thing i can tell you about gameplay wise is that the bosses Sucked, as i made them really quickly and the first boss is Really Easy and basic (with you having to Wait to damage it.. which is annoying) and the second boss is also incredibly basic but with a ton of projectile spam and an attack that is instant kill if you dont shield. LOL !!!

OKAY OKAY ONE MORE THING !!! if you didnt know... the original tech demo was actually made for the 'Really Amateur Games Expo' (or RAGE for short), which was a joke event run by the people who run SAGE where u have to make a joke game in under a week. i never attended one of them before and just felt like doing it right then just because it gave me an excuse to make UNITRES into a thing. the theme of that year's event was to make a bad game based off the newly revealed Sonic movie and its design... so i decided itd be funny to make a game Completely Unrelated to Sonic and the sonic movie and make it an Actually Good Game With Effort Kind Of. so That's why theres a bunch of posters for "Fast The Rat" and the egg guy... it was supposed to be making fun of the original sonic movie teaser. the game was actually accepted into the event.. but it was completely ignored and also it wasnt even shown on the stream they did for the event. oh well. around that same time i also joined newgrounds for the first time and posted about it.. but it also did not occur to me that i could have exported an html version of the game which i Kind Of regret not doing then. Oh Well, at least the version of the game that came out on newgrounds is way more polished and Good, LOL !!!

EDIT: ONE ONE ONE ONE ONE MORE THING !!! i forgot to mention that Technically, section 1 and 2 actually take place in the same layout and thats why theres a smooth transition into the two sections compared to every other level. LOL!

(Enby) Hange Hcs ♡

i love love love non binary Hange but i think some cis people just see enbys as just Girl/Boy But Quirky™ which is very transphobic btw!! ill write some more info abt writing enby characters under the cut if yall want some tips/info BUT ANYWAY

im trans and non binary so i have brought it upon myself make some super queer headcanons :)

((no tws minus some mentions of dysphoria and genitalia but in a non sexual way!))

( these are separated into AMAB and AFAB hange, i may do some intersex ones too after some research but let me know if yall like these hcs! ) ✧･ﾟ: *✧･ﾟ:*

General Hcs;

- they came out to their family relatively young, about 13/14 yrs of age. the only none family members they really 'came out' to were Moblit and Mike. after that, they didnt feel the need to explain their identity to anyone else and only ever corrected people on their pronouns (which they also gave up on later in their 20s /pos)

- always kinda figured they deviated in some way, theyve always been curious and love to learn so the concept of the LGBT wasnt new nor was it scary for them to realise they're nb. they accepted and embraced it really quickly!

- more so alignes with 'genderqueer' than trans but isnt super picky about labels as a whole. Hange is Just Hange™

- would describe their gender as 2008 Toyota Carolla with full confidence and no elaboration

★ AFAB Hange;

- either binds or got a reduction/top surgery; they sometimes dont mind their chest being more visable but most of the time prefer it flat.

- maxed out around 5'9 in college and they will ALWAYS brag about it smh

- hormone blocker kid! then they started testosterone for 2 and a half yrs before finishing their transition. theyre also super lucky bc they didnt need loads of vocal training to get their deeper voice

- naturally broader shoulders and narrow hips that really helped them with their dysphoria when they were younger

- Hange has a very very eccentric gender expression with odd jewelry and a lot of brown/gold tones

- flag hoarder; they dont really hang up flags in their home since theyre flammable and generally pesky to put up but they have many badges and patches (i hc that hange likes collecting random stuff, like a magpie). their favourite flags currently are the queer flag, genderqueer flag, they/them lesbian flag and a variant of the T4T* flag. YES they do have a mental encyclopedia of obscure lgbt flags and the girls who get it, get it

- makes strap on jokes more than ymir and they're not funny

★ AMAB Hange;

- doesnt take estrogen and generally isnt super dysphoric about their body. most of their physical dysphoria is about their voice.

- would identify as non dysphoric but they've definitely got social dysphoria** (though theyd argue it isnt super debilitating)

- naturally rounder shoulders and a slimmer waist, it helps on more feminine days (imagine them in a corset hh-)

- generally quite muscular with a little tummy and arm chub. just looking at them they look rather healthy but we all know hange eats like a raccoon

- they dont have a super big/prominent chest so every so often they'll wear a padded bra or cleavage enhancers

- Hanges expression is more 60s/70s inspired. kinda like a sexy unhinged science professor aesthetic

- Hange likes keeping their nails long but they get chipped and grimy and Levi things its gross lmao

- they definitely have a cute desk flag that maybe Moblit made for them (that was specifically curated to be fire retardant and easily cleaned)

- makes way more strap on jokes and they're actually kinda funny but nobody will admit it except for connie (because he isnt aware of the dangers of stroking Hanges ego)

terminology + tips under the cut!

* = T4T stands for Trans4Trans aka trans people who prefer to or exclusively date (or are attracted to) other fellow trans people based on the commonality of trans experience

** = social dysphoria is dysphoria (distress/discomfort) triggered by not being perceived as your gender. for example, Hange may become dysphoric when people assume they are a man/woman or refer to them with binary pronouns.

TIPS; when writing for non binary people, please be conscious that you are representing a real community and identity in your writing.

((you can always google 'how to write a trans/non binary character' and get some ideas))

non binary people are NOT MEN OR WOMEN. thats the whole point. so try to write them with either both feminine or masculine traits for the sake of retaining gender ambiguity OR you can give them brand new traits that are separate from gender stereotypes.

its really transphobic and regressive when people write us and treat us like we're just men/women who are a little different. that completely dismisses our identities, experience and history. theres a big stereotype that nb people are all white afab/female people and that is also wrong. you dont have to be born or look a certain way to be non binary and trans people exist in all cultures and walks of life.

there is no trans experience that is exactly the same and as writers we need to be mindful and respectful of the people we are potentially empowering or hurting.

if you want to get an accurate picture of what being trans/non binary is like, literally just reach out to a trans/nb person and ask if they want to give you their input! this is especially helpful if you want to write about any struggles that a trans/nb character is facing.
