Quick reminder since apparently it bears reminding in both directions: if bigoted people, closed-minded people overall, or your own internalized insecurities misinterpret a queer person’s message in a way that hurts/endangers you, yeah, it sucks, but it’s not the fault of the queer person in question, nor should it be a reason for them to silence themselves. They’re probably as hurt/pissed as you are that someone misinterpreted and misused their message to do harm.
Of course sadly there’ll still be queer people that actually DO mean harm and dismissal to other queer people – I ain’t speaking for those and it’s not the best way to ensure their and others’ wellbeing imo. I’m just saying – not all people will be like that. That’s what I want to believe. So hopefully let’s not put everyone in the same bag, keep supporting each other, WHILE allowing each other to advocate for our own visibility, without having to self-erase or self-censor to accomodate to what haters might say.
It’ll be tougher this way, maybe, because humans seem to like to draw extreme conclusions very quick, but I don’t believe there’s any better way for us all to be alright and stay alright on the long run.

i think the best thing someone can do to be a better ally to disabled people is to just believe other people. believe people know their own abilities and limitations and understand your own.
just. fucking listen to people when they talk about how they are feeling, because most likely theyve been feeling this way for a long time before saying anything either. trust another person to know their body better than you. they know what they can do and then please don't question it.
laziness is a myth.
don't apply your standards for your ability level (even subconsciously) onto other people. be gentle and forgiving with others and most importantly yourself.

Imposter Syndrom
A comic about fictives who feel the same as their source, yet not similar enough to it at the same time
Of course, many fictives may not see themselves as their source at all, and that's okay! This post is just about those of us who do see ourselves as our source, but also struggle to cope with the differences we have from our source selves Many times fictives lack the physical, mental, and other skills that their source may have had. Perhaps as a fictive you don't identify with the same gender, sex, or sexual orientation as your source. Hell, maybe you just even like a different flavor of cupcake to them. Whatever the case may be, this post is a reminder that you don't have to try to be exactly like your source. You're free to be your own individual person; no one will see you as less. And if they do? Then that's their own problem. You're not just based off a fictional character, you're an actual person with your own set of traits and capabilities. Don't look down on them because they may not be exactly the same as you hoped. Enjoy what makes you unique

Something websites (*cough* Tumblr *cough*) need to learn is that what retains an audience isn't an abundance of new bells and whistles to play with, it's a coherent experience overall.
When someone joins a website, you don't need to grab their attention and hold it. They're already testing the waters. They've agreed to sign up. You've won on that front, and they're there for something specific you already have that they're hoping works well.
What drives them away is frustration.
Frustration, frustration, frustration.
Learning curves are going to be a part of any new website experience; they're something the user comes to terms with, in their own time. But broken or bad features are going to make them jump sites.
On top of that, constantly adding new features makes them feel like all the hard work they've put in to learning what you have isn't worth it; your website looks unstable and your staff looks incompetent, because it gives the impression that you don't know what you're doing.
You are floundering. It makes your new users nervous. It makes your old users hesitate to bring anyone else on board. And why should they? Why should they put effort into it if you're going to throw that effort away next Tuesday? Why get used to a UI that you're not going to bother to keep? Why customize anything if you're going to whittle that customization away?
Between that and the broken, unattended features of this site—the tag organization failing, the inability to look up posts word-for-word, the video player either refusing to play or yanking you to the top of the dashboard, images taking forever to load, advertisements blaring at full volume when you scroll past, you have your problem.
You have the reason why your numbers are failing.
It's not that you're not interesting enough.
It's not that you're too difficult to understand.
It's that you aren't improving what you have, yet you keep adding more half-broken things and unwanted copycat features to the pile.
It's that you're losing your identity in pursuit of a hypothetical perfect customer.
It's that you are actively telling your user base that you prefer those hypothetical customers over them. And your user base, your real people who make you happen, are smart enough to know where your priorities lie.
The bulk of this post talks about Tumblr, but other sites have gone the same way. Twitter is dead and its corpse is decaying in the street. Reddit has sabotaged any trust its users had in its management. If you'd like a really old example—I used to use Fanfiction Net. It's not the most intuitive website in the world, but it was the first one I called home.
I used it to host my works. The adware now on it makes it a hassle to navigate. The bots make comment sections and private messages a dread rather than a joy. So I moved on.
I also used to use it to collaborate on stories with my now-roommate. The message limit was 300 a day. When you're writing dialogue between characters, that's nothing.
So I moved on. We started messaging on Facebook. It was better, it didn't have a limit. But then I learned Discord existed, and I could edit messages, make dedicated channels, etc. So I moved on from Facebook to Discord. And Discord had a steep learning curve, especially if you're trying to make your own server rather than contribute to one. But, most importantly, the payoff was worth it.
If Discord changed its layout every other month while I was learning it, and broke how its reactions worked, and kept shifting what it meant to create a channel? If it opted me into servers I didn't sign up for, in hopes of engagement? If its text never formatted correctly, or its search function only went back a day or two?
I would have gone right back to Facebook. Even if it's a more basic experience, basic is always preferable to unstable.
Figure out what you want, websites.
Slow growth, or a gamble?
You're paying for your magic slot machine in users.

Okay but if Billy equates love with someone who doesn't leave him... what about Neil? His father didn't leave him, and I'm sure Billy wanted him to leave. But then he would be alone, because he's sure Susan and Max would leave, too. And he would have no one.
And if he believes staying means that someone loves him, there's a big chance he does believe Neil's abuse is love. The "love" he feels like he deserves, which isn't love at all.
Having a parent who abuses you... just makes you feel more alone than ever.
Having people in the house who know there's something going on but stay silent because they are afraid... or maybe they know something is off about you but they don't look any further...
Having the adults in your life repeatedly letting you down...
Billy is very vulnerable, and if you think about it, him dying protecting Max and El (El being one of the only people who showed him any kindness)...
He died for someone who treated him like a person. Not hurting him is literally where the bar is for Billy.
Someone caring, someone showing him any attention at all (good or bad).
These are Billy's standards.
If most of what you know is abuse in any form, then someone even asking you how your day was or if you're okay...
Someone talking to you. Someone listening. Someone paying any attention to you at all. Someone who looks at you. Someone who smiles at you.
Speaking as someone who has this mentality (it's hard to shake), and if you don't know that you deserve more than the bare minimum (this can make all the difference) it is very dangerous- and very likely for the cycle to continue, taking you right down with it.

In every verse, unless otherwise stated, Guy is Catholic. Even if he's lapsed, that fact underscores a great deal of who he is and how he thinks. Yes, he was raised under the Church of England's banner, but his mother was French and her children were brought up knowing the difference between the two religions...and understanding why they needed to keep their beliefs quiet.
When his mother died, it destroyed his faith in humanity and in God, so in most verses he doesn't consider himself part of any religion.

the subject of turpin and flowers is a fascinating one. from poor thing then on, flowers are closely associated with his lyrics. there's the obvious "every day he'd send her a flower" from poor thing, but in pretty women two out of five solo lyrics he has describing the wonderful things that beautiful women do have to do with flowers. in the same song he makes a point to describe johanna as "[a] pretty little rosebud." earlier in the show he mentions that if johanna accepts his proposal that he would buy her a small gift. what can we infer a small gift being? flowers. that's what he gave lucy and he clearly thinks of johanna as an extension of her mother. he's going to give her flowers.
since he so often mentions flowers with the topic with women, we can infer that's how he views them. beautiful things to look at. to water for a little bit then to pull out of the ground. out of the nourishing soil and water and sunlight. this is exactly what he did with johanna. he took her from her mother, he tore her family apart, then picked her without her roots and put her in a room without sunlight. just to be dried up and eventually pressed onto a page so no one else but he would ever see her again. he showers her with flowers that she doesn't want. flowers that represent what he plans to do to her. johanna doesn't want to be a flower: she wants to be a bird, whose wings touch sunlight and who breaths in fresh air.
turpin sees her as nothing more than a rosebud. pulling her out of the ground before she's even in bloom.

reminder to all gifmakers that your work is always a unique, valuable contribution to the community. even if someone has already giffed that scene. even if you're not 100% happy with the coloring. even if it doesn't get many notes because sometimes people only look at the 'top' posts in the tags (which are usually just the first posts on the scene after an episode drops).
frankly, the culture of expecting gifs to be made within 15 minutes of an episode airing and only reblogging posts made within that timeframe is stressful and unsustainable for creators, and it prevents people from discovering and appreciating the wonderful diversity and abundance of work that can be found here.
follow your favorite gifmakers, reblog generously, and have some compassion for people that devote their time to making beautiful things <3
