I just LOVE trying to guess things about Destiel.

Like when Dean gave Cas the mixtape? Or when did they watch Tombstone? When did they watch other movies and how? (Because there was no TV at least until Scoobynatural I think).

Most importantly when Cas discovered he was in love with Dean? Or when Dean discovered he was in love with Cas? How they both handle those feelings? Did they really knew they were in love? And on and on.

I just looooove finding clues and guessing things. It’s not really easy actually, but mostly I choose what I prefer, because why not. For instance, to watch Tombstone, Cas and Dean saw it on Dean's computer in Dean's room and on his bed, because I prefer it that way. And because it's totally likely.

I'm like a FBI agent and my case is Destiel.

so i wrote a destiel fanfiction! its called "Taylor Swift rocks out, on occasion"

summary:

"He digs the tape out of his bag and propels it across the messy files and books strewn all over the table over to Cas like he blames it for everything that has gone wrong since he was born. Cas picks it up slowly and stares in stillness and careful wonder at where Dean has scrawled 'SONGS FOR CAS' on the tape."

Dean's love language is music, and all his favourite songs remind him of Castiel, and his feelings are so embarrassing that only Taylor Swift gets it. Being denial about all three of these things makes it a lot harder to give Castiel a mixtape than it has to be.

its very fluffy and cosy and its safe for work, but with enough flirting and pigtail pulling and slinging insults to make it worth reading < 3

its inspired by my love for music, i started listening to classic rock when i became obsessed with supernatural and i fell so madly in love with it so music will always be something i associate closely with this show. having said that, it's also inspired by my love of taylor swift HAHA you don't need to know any taylor swift songs to read this, but listening to "invisible string" or just reading the lyrics will help it make sense < 3 (sorry im new to classic rock so i couldnt do a classic rock thing lol)

The thing is, I think the people who don't get destiel are the ones that don't get Dean.

People seem to forget that Dean is damaged beyond all recognition. I dont need to go through every bullet-point of traumas from Dean Winchesters life, we'd be here all night. But cheese and rice, the man did his best.

Like, if someone stayed in a place with death threats around every corner for a year to find me. Or offered to kill their brother so that I would live. Or stopped being suicidal when I returned to them. Or made me a mixtape. Or had faith in me and only me. If that person resisted talking about feelings to everyone except me, and has clearly told his friends about me because they'd heard of me long before they knew me. Yeah, I'm gonna assume that person has a dash of feelings.

Whatever I get stuck on at any given moment. My most recent ones are 9-1-1, Inception, ATS and Hawkeye, but my repeat fandoms are Spn, X-Men, The Old Guard and Black Sails.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

I'm copying chubs and doing my personal favorites, because my top four kudos'd fic are all for the same fandom (The Old Guard) and written within like three weeks of each other.

The Scroll of Saint Barnabas (9-1-1, Buddie, 15k): recency bias, but I had a lot of fun with this one. I also probably drove my girlfriend*and cousin insane during the writing process. Sorry about that. The basic premise is: we all know how time loop fics go, but what if after the loop is broken the character has PTSD from all the things that nobody else remembers? And also what if you get a knotted dildo hooked onto your permanent retainer? *though we've now established consent and parameters for whether we can have sex if one of us is stuck in a time loop. It's always important to have these conversations in advance!!!

What The Moon Was Saying (Spn, destiel, 16k.) It's about Dean rescuing Cas from the Empty, technically, but it's also about Dean working through things he refuses to think about directly, and it's also about the perspective of dead characters who aren't all-knowing and have no clue what happened after they died, and it's also about Inanna's Descent into the Underworld and how many jokes about Sumerian mythology I could fit in there that probably nobody else is going to think are funny but I think are funny, and it's also about what issues Orpheus would have had if he'd succeeded. The central thesis statement is that Margaritaville is thee Dean Winchester Mental State song.

The Mixtape, Or: Six Things You Learn in Thursday School (Spn, destiel, 6k.) I always had this idea that I was going to write a fantasy book of some kind, where the first part would be about the founding of a religion and then the following parts would jump ahead a few hundred years and see how that religion and that original story change in the telling. Instead of writing that book I wrote 6,000 words about a post-apocalyptic religion whose foundational text was the Winchester Gospels, except they don't actually have the Winchester Gospels, so they're relying on collected ephemera and thirdhand accounts. It is also about both academic and online discourse.

The House on Graymalkin Lane (X-Men, background cherik, 92k.) My nice little outsider-POV x-men haunted house fic. It started out as "the x-mansion would be a bonkers haunted house" and then it turned into a love letter to the original timeline (we barely knew ye). It's about the mortifying ordeal of being in high school and also about how all my grandparents died at once and I had a lot of complicated feelings about that.

The Ill-Made Knight (X-Men, cherik, 1.5k) OK so you know that trope that's like "if anyone is going to kill me I want it to be you"?? it's that, but instead of being used as a statement of everlasting love and devotion, it's being used as psychological warfare. And also kind of a statement of everlasting love. But in a fucked up sort of way. Because Cherik.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes! I didn't used to but I do now because I always like it when people reply to mine. Sometimes I miss them and respond years later but like... I got there eventually?

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

the whole estate of mortal man. (Black Sails, silverflint, 40k.) Silver is immortal but has a very impermanent self. Flint is mortal and has a very permanent self. There was only one way that was ever going to end and I stand by it.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Of recent ones, I guess The Most Fun A Girl Can Have? (Kate/Yelena, 8k.) They're having a pretty good time for most of it.

8. Do you get hate on fic?

Not since like, high school.

9. Do you write smut?

Nope. Hats off to smut writers, you're doing God's work. It's very difficult.

10. Do you write crossovers?

I haven't, unless you count every Marvel fic being a crossover. And Good Omens show/book. But that seems like a cop-out.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not as far as I know.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! Some very kind people translated The Punishment of Sisyphus (Black Sails crackfic) and Antebellum (Black Sails, Anne & Eleanor fic) into Russian, Stalefish (Old Guard, Nile-centric) into Polish, and Kidnapping for Dummies (Old Guard, Joe shenanigans) into Spanish. I can only read the Spanish one.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yessss. The #ImmortalHusbands Conspiracy (The Old Guard social media fic) with @phoenix-acid. That was very fun.

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?

Why would you ask me this. This is cruel. I can barely pick a top 5.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?

The Marvel pirate AU, probably. It's almost a complete story on its own as it stands. There's about half a next chapter written and I could probably us that to tie things up, if I cut out a bunch of things, but I'd have to reread all my research. I did way too much research for that.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Character voices? I hope it's character voices. I watch a lot of youtube compilations before writing anyone to try and get a handle on how they talk.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

The actual romance part of a romance. What do you mean they have to get together after I've set everything up so that they get together? Ridiculous.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I've never done it before, but I respect people who can pull it off. I do really hate that trope though where a multilingual character calls their love interest pet names in their mother-tongue, when they are never shown using it that way (or mixing that language and English in a conversation) in canon.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

....percy jackson and the olympians.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Since I listed five favorites up there I'm switching this with the kudos question. Fic with the most kudos is Kidnapping for Dummies (The Old Guard, 3.5k)

Thinking more about this gifset from ep 12x09, The Future, and just want to say a thing about what the word 'subtext' means, because it sometimes feels like what people think it means and what it actually means are not aligned.

So, as a starting point, subtext is defined as "the implied meaning or underlying message of a narrative that is not stated directly. It is the unexpressed thought, feeling, or emotional throughline that lies beneath the text."

The scene in the gifset linked above rife with subtext, and it's really very obvious. But first, there are several layers to the text. There's the visual: Sam looking concerned, Dean working on Cas's truck. There's also the context of the other events in the episode. In brief: Cas returns to the bunker after being out of touch for so long that Dean was worried, and angry with him; Cas tried to return the mixtape Dean gave him and Dean refused to accept it; Cas tells Dean he feels like he just keeps failing and Dean stresses that they need to work together; Cas 'plays him' and steals the Colt from under his pillow; Dean threatens to 'kick his feathered ass' but notably does not follow through. Right before this scene Dean throws Cas the keys to the Impala like it's a totally automatic for him to do (it's not!), only to have Kelly drive off with his Baby, and with Cas.

Here's the transcript:

Sam: How did this happen? Dean: ( Scoffs ) What? The lying? The Heaven plan? Or the fact that I'm working on this stupid truck? Sam: No, I mean, what's wrong with Cas? Dean: Well, he hasn't exactly had a banner year. I mean, think about it. Between Lucifer... (huffs out a breath) ...killing Billie, Ramiel, everything's been blowing up in his face... And he's so desperate for a win right now, he can't even see straight. Go ahead and give it a try. (Engine starts)

So the text of this scene is a combination of what we see, the context in the episode, the wider context of the show and relationships, and the lines.

Here are some examples of the subtext in this scene:

Dean has given some thought to how Cas is feeling.

Dean understands that people make questionable decisions when they are feeling down and defeated.

Dean has been there, and done that.

Dean sympathizes and empathizes with Cas.

Dean's frustrated, but Cas is still family to him.

Dean cares about Cas and wants to help him.

Sam does not quite know what to make of Cas's behavior.

Sam knows that Dean will know better than he does what is motivating Cas to do what he is doing.

Dean is emotionally closer to Cas than Sam is.

Sam relies on Dean's reaction to Cas's recent actions to know how to react himself.

Dean wants Sam to understand and sympathize with Cas, and not judge him too harshly.

There is much more one could add to this, but nothing I've said above is the least bit controversial; it's nothing more than a basic understanding of the content of the text, and it is very clearly communicated. Understanding these things in this scene is not rocket science, and everything I mentioned above is indisputably there as unspoken but clear emotional throughline in the text.

Subtext is not a mysterious puzzle, or a ghost floating around in a text that is invented out of the audience's desires, it is the actual emotional force and content of it. Ernest Hemingway is a long way from being my favourite writer, but he was, nevertheless, a heavyweight champion of subtext. He called it the 'iceberg theory,' or 'theory of omission': the text (words themselves) present only a small part of what is happening in it, but it is important to note that subtext is part of the text like the unseen part of an iceberg is part of an iceberg. A text without subtext would be very boring indeed, and would leave nothing for our minds to do when we process it. It's difficult to imagine any narrative text that doesn't have it.

I think that a lot of the time we say things like: I want Destiel to be explicit, not 'just subtext', but look at what is communicated via subtext above! Virtually everything that's important about the scene! Subtext is not imaginary thing the reader adds, it is part of the intent of the text, and Destiel is more explicit than this in the text in a lot of ways because it is the bones the text is hanging on -- it may not be spoken, but it is part of the structure of the text, and that's because of things like the way Ruby and Sam's story parallels Dean and Cas in season 4, or the way Dean's entire motivation in purgatory is Cas, and when he gets back from purgatory, he can think of little else, or the way Cas very obviously parallels Colette in the MOC arc and there is no Abel, or the entire widower arc, or the fact that main emotional arc of season 15 is Cas and Dean's break up, reconciliation, Cas's confession and finally Dean's despair and willingness to just die in the final episode. There's a lot of that that simply doesn't make any sense without Destiel as a structural element in the narrative.

There are so many ways in which the whole story is BUILT AROUND the assumption that Cas is Dean's strongest bond and partner, and around how important Cas is to Dean's emotional life, which is why I think it's often more accurate to say that Destiel is CONTEXT, because it's actually the reason why we understand the subtext of so many scenes and arcs in the story.

The fact that Cas loves Dean is not subtext, it is explicitly stated, and the fact that Dean loves Cas is not explictly stated, but it is present in the text at so many levels, that to call it 'just subtext' or imagine that it is some kind of unacknowledged, unavowed ghost in the narrative is not accurate. There is no way to understand a thing like Dean's devastated face at Castiel's pyre, or why Castiel leaving in season 15 feels like a divorce without it. Destiel is the emotional force of it, and moreover, it's the part of the iceberg you can't see because it's underwater, but it is fucking there, and IT WILL FUCK YOU UP.

Some random thoughts about The Winchesters finale that I've been obsessing over today

Assuming that this isn't an AU and there's no retconning and that all these characters will get their memories erased to comply with spn canon:

1. Baby. Right now, to Mary and John the Impala is Dean's car. Later when Dean time travels in spn, John gets this kinda déjà vu about a guy with a car like that one. So as we know Dean convinces John to buy the car. So Baby has always been Dean's car (we already knew this, but it gets reinforced)

2. What if, in a similar manner, Mary and John and the whole Led Zeppelin thing happen because of Dean? (Have either of them mentioned liking Led Zeppelin? Can't remember) So, maybe Dean mentions liking LZ and tells Mary and John they might like that band too, or a song's playing and Mary says she likes it and Dean goes all me, too! I even made this buddy of mine a mixtape...

3. The mixtape. We get to hear how and why Dean gave Cas the mixtape! Destiel goes canon. Again!

4. Destiel. Dean mentions he's in a relationship, or loves someone but they're not together because he lost this person and he's trying to find him. Maybe a man tries flirting with Dean but he says "sorry pal, I'm taken" (from "I don't swing that way" to "You're not my type" to "I'm taken") or Dean tells them he's trying to find a feathered buddy of his or his partner or an angel and they all assume he means a woman, but Carlos goes like duh! He means a guy! And Dean confirms it.

5. Mary knows. When Mary and Cas meet in s12 she also gets that déjà vu about a hunter and an angel who are in love, why does this story feel familiar? 🤔 Because Dean already told her about Cas in 1972! Which is how the monster club finds out about angels and why years later Mary tells little Dean that angels are watching over him.

So yes, The Winchesters is a love story. Yes, it's about Mary and John's love story, but it all comes back to Destiel, Dean and Cas' epic love story 💙💚

A Million Reasons

The first question Dean asked Cas when he got back from the Empty was, "Why?"

Dean’s voice cracked and his hands trembled in a way that he couldn’t quite hide, despite how tightly he’d folded his arms over his chest. Something like awe shone in his eyes and Cas heard all the many questions packed into that one word.

Why did you make that deal? Why sacrifice yourself, again? Why do you love me? Why me?

Cas took a deep breath as he thought about his answer.

Because Jack is family. Because the world needed Jack and Dean more than it needed Cas. Because… 

Because Dean loved music so much, he’d listen to the same albums over and over until he had them memorized, and then made Cas a mixtape. Because he loved movies so much, he’d shared all of his favorites with Cas so that Cas would understand him when he quoted them…

Because hands that had been trained to kill turned so very gentle when he cared for those he loved. Because the boy who’d been raised to hunt found the greatest joy in cooking for his family…

Because a man who’d had no faith in anything had prayed to Cas. Because he’d laid down his life over and over for people who would never know his name. Because he always fought hardest when he knew he couldn’t win…

Because the Righteous Man had gripped Cas tight as they’d raised each other from perdition.

Cas smiled. There were a million reasons Cas loved Dean and Cas would gladly spend the rest of his days listing them all if Dean asked. 

For now, though, he said the only thing that summed it all up.

“Because you’re you.”

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? definitely it's a date, my summer challenge fic (but i am working through a follow-up that makes it a happy ending i promise 😭)

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? of all of them, i would probably say Several Notes; that one is the schmoopiest ending of them all, but next would def be outta my head.

What’s the craziest one you’ve written? yeah! only the one though, my wip ST/SPN crossover fic You Will Never Walk Alone (You Can Always Reach Me); and to the previous question, my first smut was in chap 3 of this one and i am super proud of it still 😊

What’s your all time favorite ship? oh fuck...honestly? it's probably steddie. my OTP is destiel, like, they are the blueprint, they are the ones i have the most history with, but in complete honesty: in my head steddie is much more fluid/blorbo-y than destiel are. dean and cas are so fuckin' good in canon and kinda rare-er for me to find a good au with them that they still seem like themselves? if that makes sense?

with steddie, they are so moldable and fit into any spot you put them; i prefer canon adjacent but anything they do seems so correct, whereas dean and cas will always be a hunter and angel you know? that's how their story has been for so long, and all my fave fics of them are canon spn universe - a spell, a different timeline, a hunt, it's always them™

idk if that makes sense to anyone else, but maybe it's because destiel have been destiel for like 11 seasons and 15 years, and steddie have so little with only one season/summer that they are more moldable but... 🤷‍♀️

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? honestly, it's probably my hispanic!eddie au, but my casper!eddie has been falling off at an exponential rate and it's bumming me out tbh

What are your writing strengths? i think it's dialogue? i think that's the thing i've gotten the most comments about, the wit and snark of eddie and his internal voice, or just conversations in general. i like to think through how conversations will go in a fic first, like, how exactly they would realistically speak to each other or how an accent (wayne) would come through and how best to type it out so others can 'hear' it correctly 😊

17. What are your writing weaknesses? writing out action/feelings well. maybe it's cause i get super engrossed in what i'm writing and am looking at it too long, but a lot of the time it feels like i'm just writing "he did this 😐 and then he did this 😐 then said this."

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? i do my best!!! like with the short drabble i did that started the hispanic!eddie au, i did best i could to translate the couple spanish phrases in it, but i don't speak spanish myself. my husband is hispanic and is fluent, but when i wrote that one i was much to embarrassed by why i would be asking him, that i didn't ask him to translate 😭

19. First fandom you wrote for? stranger things! the st/steddie fandom was so supportive with my secret admirer drabble that i made it my first full fic!!!

20. Favorite fic you’ve written? my fave that i've written is my mixtape fic i'm outta my head over you. i wrote so much for it in such a short amount of time for steddie week but it really came together and was all me!

i do also LOVE how my version of a princess diaries rewrite came out, but the plot is just a copy of the movie and isn't really mine you know?

not to hate on anyone who has said this but i am slightly offended at the idea that destiel and byler (or the shippers and their experiences) are not comparable or similiar.

while its true that destiel was not intentional from the start, it has been confirmed by writers, producers, and actors that it was known, acknowledged, talked about, and invested in, even on set. much like byler.

unfortunately the biggest problem lies with the CW, where spn was hosted. they fuck heavy with censorship and homophobia. around s12 they did a survey to test the idea of dean being gay, bi, and with cas (because god forbid there be a gay person). for whatever reason ($ and hatred, prolly) they, the cw, decided deans sexuality was not going to be explored in detail after the surveys.

yet we still got a love confession from cas as early as s12. and in the very same season dean talked about how his dad won his mother over (aka his ideal for love), it is revealed that dean made a mixtape for cas. just like his dad did for his mom. that very same episode is played out exactly like a scorned lover after cas betrays dean. dean says, "he came into my room and played me"

and you dont get this cinematic of a shot for platonic besties. js

and yes, while there is a large portion of the general audience that still doesnt see the clear markings of deans (mikes) sexuality and reciprocated romantic love; the many that enjoy media analysis and follow literary cues see it has been clear for awhile. even with all of the effort the cw used to try and indicate otherwise.

now i dont think netflix and the duffer brothers are giving us the same circumstances. which is great and im so glad we are living in a slightly better situation rn, but give respect where its due. destiel is not a crack ship and it wasnt even as subtextual as johnlock, no hate to johnlock. but destiel is more and has been for awhile. misha, jensen, and richard speight gave us the symbol of cas' devotion and deans salvation(see below) just as noah and other cast members have been coming out as byler shippers.

fast forward to the end of the series - cas has saved dean once again. cas' true happiness is in loving dean so he saves dean by confessing his love. once again leaving dean a physical reminder (the handprint idea came from cas and deans actors, so again they CARE about the character, their developments, and relationships)

we've all been called many disgusting awful things for shipping destiel and most of them have indeed been rooted in homophobia. but mostly we were called delusional. delusional for loving this silly little ship that provides satisfying character development and analyzing the scenes, scripts, and anything we can get our hands on. and of course, delusional for finding comfort in these characters that we can see ourselves in. sound familiar bylers???

tldr; destiel and byler are pretty similiar. destiel is in fact contextual, subtextual, real and canon, just like byler will be. the main difference is the better world we live in, with less hatred and more love for explicit queer representation. where the company producing the show is actually not as homophobic (arguably at least censorship and queerbaiting isnt their thing)

1/? So I was reading your stuff about the trap/the confession and I realized something. The thing that makes destiel stick in my brain completely separate from my other ships is that all the gay moments suck. Like spirk has that pure little “you make me believe in miracles,” a few are ‘I do things I hate for you because I enjoy your company’, so many others it’s about seeing the good in someone when no one else will. Destiel it’s all fucked up, but not like Hannigram.

2/? Hannigram makes the manipulative elements front and center, it’s about how fucked up their relationship is. (Which I don’t usually go for but have been know to look at in healthier ships.) With Destiel it’s almost insidious. Everything is a gay joke. The only reason they stare at each other so much is because Misha said the angel wouldn’t understand cultural norms then read fanfic like the next day.

3/? The only reason their relationship is Like That, paralleling another pairing, is not because they care about each other. No, they couldn’t do that! We get a comparison between them and Sam being corrupted by hell to do Satan’s bidding, because the writers never even considered that galvanizing a romantic storyline without changing things could mean that it would be read as romantic. They get insulated by other characters for their relationship, specially to poke fun at fans reading into it.

4/? If we watch compilations of gay moments devoid of context we might come away with warm fuzzy feelings, but every ‘married couple moment’ is a fight that will stop them communicating later down the line. The mixtape was given OFFSCREEN. The first I love you was done away with because Dean is not emotionally articulate/healthy enough to have said it. And by the end of the series he still isn’t! Cas gives two death bed confessions, both of them are basically made to make Dean feel guilty.

5/? Dean apologizes without saying the things that he was wrong. (The thing Cas needed to hear.) But we take every moment. We generally accept them as they come, and it’s only looking back that we see them with a dawning sense of horror. Every single one is gained by something. All of the ones that stick out in my mind, because everything on Supernatural is. The writers did not know the story they were telling, or had to change it halfway through. Even when you think they get it, they don’t.

6/? Even the ones who intentionally gave us those little nuggets of joy did not understand, or could not express that understanding in a way that shines through. We have these two characters who talk past each other for over a decade, not because they don’t care or are incapable of understanding. It’s because the writers thought that they were on the same page. Whole-heartedly believed that to be true. They wrote beautiful lines, created wonderful experiences, but they’re also just off-center.

7/? I often think about ships as growing in the cracks of a story, filling the space and patching in the holes. And it’s frustrating for writers to denounce ships because it’s like the audience has been given the pieces to a puzzle that’s halfway done, watching it be ‘completed’ and they leave two pieces off to the side. Or, worse, they don’t. We are given these two pieces of the same sky - maybe with one or two of separation - and they tell us one is the grass.

8/? They hand you these two puzzle puzzle pieces that should go together perfectly. (One craves the acceptance of a home that they can never go back to, while they other wants to build the one they never had. One wants to stay, while the other wants people to stop leaving.) They say that you’re crazy because you think the pieces go together. Then they stick one of them in the wrong place, ruin the picture and call it good. But that was lucky. Oh, you should see what they do with other one.

9/10 At least the first got to make it to the finish line. The second gets tossed to the side, in the trash, then burned! And you ask why they couldn’t be there at the end. You get told that they were never supposed to. You point at the story that THEY were telling and they double down. They think it’s disgusting, get offended, because you just pointed out all these faults in their story. Asked, “if it’s not gay then why?” And they couldn’t give you an answer. They don’t know!

10/10 They only believe that it cannot possibly be what you’re thinking. We have all of these absolutely wonderful instances where thinks slipped through the cracks and wove it all together. But you’re wrong about those too, really. They’re terrible, awful things that should not be looked at closely. If you observe Supernatural under a microscope it is not a host organism, it is the parasite. The secret good supernatural could never have existed because of their ineptitude. Unparalleled indeed.

Okay so we all know that my main problem is that I just can't get past everyone's terrible English accent but we'll put that aside for now

The ep was far-fetched just like all the Thule stuff but they could've got away with it if he'd delivered a different performance imho

In conclusion I watched this season again to check if I'd misjudged it the first time round, but turns out I do in fact mostly hate it

This is such a hard question because so many things are constantly happening in that show. Also I’ve seen all 15 seasons so you’re here for some Information. But here we go

S1-3: Sam. Literally Sam ate that shit up sorry who CARESS about anyone else when Sam was there. He ran away from home and got dragged back because the demon that killed his mom also killed his girlfriend who he was going to propose to and he’s there looking for revenge and losing his mind you know

S4: angels are introduced as a concept and so is CASTIEL!!! Cas raises Dean from hell (he died and went to hell last season btw)

S5: killer season. It was about trying to prevent the apocalypse (aka Michael and Lucifer battling) and yeah it was truly the end of an era but start of another.

S6: Castiel villain arc 🖤

S7: this season was. Definitely something. A lot of dick jokes I’m gonna be honest. Anyways they introduced this character named Charlie so I love it for that <3

S8: KILLER season. Destiel are going through purgatory and a shit ton of homosexuality AND Sam goes through major torments. Fun stuff.

S9: I’ma be honest I don’t remember much of this season at all. They were treating Cas and Sam horribly so it can’t be that great

S10: THEY INTRODUCED. ROWENA. Literally the coolest and objectively best character on that show. Like her character development in the show ??? Mindblowing. AND on top of being an insanely good character she’s a hot bisexual milf witch. What more could you want

S11: don’t remember much of this season either but they had a good Sam episode so !!!

S12: The destiel queerbait was so real in this season SORRY. Like they had them fighting and slamming each other into walls and making each other mixtapes and manipulating the other to steal artifacts. Fun gay shit yk ? And also they killed Cas at the end of that

S13: I was gonna stop watching spn here but like. They introduced my best friend Jack so I stuck around for him <3

S14: probably my least favorite season so I’m just ignoring this

S15: They like. Did everything the last season. I don’t even have more to say

I'm in a spiral about the obvious romantic connotation to pretty much every Destiel interaction.

The widower arc, the mixtape, the countless couple parallels. Not giving Dean love interests because "That narrative role was filled". The whole Cain/Collette parallel?? Dean being sooo much more affected by losing Cas, than Sam is. Even down to the angles and lighting they use, like??

How is this a debatable "open for interpretation" thing? I. Don't. Get. It.

HONESTLY like it’s in everything it’s in their whole dynamic it’s in how the SHOW ITSELF was made and produced a certain way (both on purpose and to avoid which is damning in and of itself) and THEN in literally canon reactions and interactions with them like?!???!?
