so what kind of projectile drop do we think the various long range weapons have? My gut tells me the 'blasters', (cordak blasters, midak skyblasters, ninrah ghostblasters) are more like firearms, with decent range and minimal bullet drop, while 'launchers' (Zamora sphere launchers, thornax launchers) have less range and more of an arc to them. Disk launchers obviously launch frisbee like projectiles which seems to be somewhat self propelled? Rhotuka spinners definitely have the best range of them all irl, but it's hard to say if that translates to lore. Squid launchers are in a category of their own, I'd say they're almost just an aiming device with self propelled ammo, that's able to track and switch targets.

Kongu is definitely carrying weapons against the Toa Code (in the same sense that Matoro's Tryna is technically against Toa rules) but he doesn't know there are weapons against the Toa Code so it's okay. Dume knows as soon as he gets back to Metru Nui but you know what? what the kid doesn't know and that keeps the city safer won't hurt him. Cordak blaster you say?? no he's never heard of that. definitely it wasn't confiscated from Pit criminals who committed unspeakable atrocities. nope. no worries

Something that I think is unique to the Bionicle fandom specifically* is that a lot of OCs of certain species, factions and/or elements would have a very high chance of dying if they were canon.
Toa of Iron or Magnetism? Killed during the BOM's purges.
Makuta? Died during the Makuta Civil War or during Teridax's takeover of the GSR.*
Av-Matoran? Could potentially become a Bohrok, which isn't actual death per se but is pretty damn close.
Toa Hagah? Most of them turned evil or died (except for at least the Metru Hagah).
Turning one of the Toa Cordak into an OC to flesh them out? The most noteworthy thing about them, in-and out-of-universe, is that every member was killed by giant shark-men!***
There's probably more examples, but that's all I can think of.
(Also there is nothing wrong with having any OC of the type listed, like my main OC is a Makuta).
*The Homestuck fandom kinda has a similar problem, but it's arguably more severe since it applies to pretty much every OC instead of just a few.
**as someone with a Makuta OC this one pains me the most; I personally think that Ethrull would run a prosthetics shop post-Restoration, but outside a potential AU, it can't happen.
***except Lesovikk.

List of canon Toa Teams and if they would live in the Toa Temple
Toa Mata: Yes, absolutely. They are literally siblings.
Toa Metru: No. They had their own houses and would still live there if they had more time being Toa
Toa Hagah: no. They're literally just co workers.
Toa Marhi: Maybe some. Nuparu absolutely couldn't live with anyone because it throws off his focus, but the others might.
Toa Mangai: No. They were an improvised Toa team when they formed. Also, Tuyet probably would have killed them in their sleep/j. Also also there were like 13 of them lmao
Toa Cordak: we didn’t learn enough about them.

My Toa Mahri and Barraki!
The Toa Mahri are super duper cool but they also show off the weakness of being too unique, imo. Where previous Toa series like Metru and Inika were pretty uniformly viable to play with and equally cool, Nuparu and ESPECIALLY Kongu just get left behind with the Mahri I say.
Like, from the Inika sets: Matoro and Hewkii are way cooler than they were, going from middle of the back to the best by far for my taste. Jaller and Hahli are at least as cool as they were, if not cooler. But Nuparu still has the same problem of being so black he blends in with himself and is hard to really admire. Plus his mask went from super iconic to probably the most forgettable, a sort of blend between Hydraxon's and Matoro's. Still super cool, probably the best thing about the set after the shield.
Nothing really needs to be said about Kongu but I'll say it anyway. Poor guy gets NO unique parts, just a slightly interesting breathing tube setup that's overshadowed by the really cool ones like Matoro, Hewkii, and Jaller. Torso construction is cool but shared with Carapar who actually does have unique parts AND is more colorful. Two guns could be cool but he doesn't have anything else! The Cordak blasters look great but they don't function super well, so he ends up feeling like the worst version of Kopaka from Phantoka or Onua from Mistika, or Pohatu from Phantoka. All of them have a better focus on the action gimmick or a better use of the torso construction. (I still love him though who can dislike Kongu :])
Matoro Mahri and Hewkii Mahri are some of my favorite sets out of all the original run though. I love the Great Kanohi Garai a LOT, probably my single favorite overshadowing even the Inikia's organic masks. And Matoro has really grown on me, he subtly has the best set of all the Toa I think.
For whatever reason the Barraki have never done much for me, but I still appreciate them. I think I'm inclined against too much "biological" in my "biological chronicle," oddly enough. The squid launchers are pretty worthless in my book, even though they look cool. And I didn't really like the funky construction of a lot of their torsos, though I appreciate it as super cool and a way to make more unique bodies than you could if you were sticking rigidly to the Inika building system.
Mantax and Takadox are my favorites. They're the best for actually playing with, and have really great colors! I can appreciate the other four in one way or another, especially for the colors, but I don't super duper like any of them. Pridak especially is super hard to pose because of how weirdly bunched up his joints are, moving one part throws everything else off too.
I think I came off as really critical here but I wouldn't have these guys if I didn't love them :]. Complaining about them is really just an excuse to keep paying attention to my favorite things in the world!

"I believe that mask belongs to me."
It has long been my intention to--if not actually becoming active here again--at least keep this place relatively up to date. So here is the last of BIONICLE month from 2020, most of which is now very old or out of date but still nice to have all in the same place. I believe the remaining prompts were for a toa of water, toa of air, turaga, matoran, adversary, and titan (which is the Hydraxon piece above).
I'm fairly certain at this point all of the custom masks were designed by KhingK and the cordak blasters are my attempt to ape BobtheDoctor27's really slick stud shooter ones. Hopefully get to posting my modern projects here soon!

Mikara
Mikara is an Ihidauri (Pridak's species in the Red Star games canon) and she's one of my characters in Doronai Nui, the Bionicle p&p by Red Star.
She is prideful, arrogant and has a little bit of a screwed up moral compass, believing that you are allowed to do almost anything as long as you are just good enough at it. She also has the tendencies to lie and tell tall tales that up-play her own importance. To anyone not very familiar with her corner of the great spirit robot, she might introduce herself as a former advisor to Barraki Pridak himself or talk about how she stood with the Toa Cordak against the Zyglak. While most of her stories aren't exactly true, she is still a very skilled swordsman and manipulator willing to join any adventure that will get her some glory.

Frozen Assets
Chapter 1: License and Registration
Matua paced to one of the larger holding cells, blank tablet and chisel clipped to his hip. The scars of recent battle made his frozen home (and his joints) creak but such things wouldn't dissuade the sentry from doing his job. Instead of mulling in the anger and massive headache, the warrior pondered – something he was very good at. Odd that there isn't anything on the Wall about these people. Thousands of years of proven history and not a single mention of this ragtag team. I have to be the one to add them to it! Who they are, who they've been; what can they tell me about this world? I just wish it were under better circumstances. The Toa of Plantlife approached the door and was about to enter when he realized that he was still pretty much livid at said circumstances. Oh Matua – your mask may be calm but you still feel it. Can't question them with blurred vision. Breathe in… breathe out…
He closed his eyes and let the cold stone and air surrounding him temper the fire in his heart. It was embers now, more manageable, more useful. Matua swung open the door with practiced panache and eased himself down into the chair opposite the prisoners. Good, they haven't destroyed anything. I'm thankful that they surrendered their weapons but I have the feeling they don't need them to do some serious damage. Some of those things never stood a chance. Without missing a beat, he initiated the interrogation: “Name, base of operations; license and registration.”
The trio looked to each other, masks plastered with confusion. “We can give you our names if you wish but, respectfully, what are you even talking about? Toa don't need to announce themselves like that.”
So Silver is the face. Might be the leader but I've known the type to let their deputy do the talking. He might just also like hearing the sound of his own voice. We'll see. “Please don't feign ignorance in a Toa Fortress of all places, Sweet and Low. The Code states that we do things by the word. Our word. So I'll ask again: license and registration.”
“We have no such identification on us, Brother. Also, Sweet and Low?”
“The three of us agreed to this meeting and have observed your strange customs because cooperation is paramount.” Lime paused. “Lesovikk, Nikila, Vinik.” He pointed to himself and his comrades in turn.
Matua couldn't keep his eyes from widening but he wrangled them back into place in short order. So that explains it! The standard line of questioning doesn't apply to the Toa Cordak in the slightest but I'll keep on track, see how much they'll reveal on their own. The Brotherhood is not gonna like this…
“Base of operations? Having some corroboration with your assignment would be greatly appreciated.” Matua let slip a little menace on his last word, his favored poison. Not enough to kill, of course, but hopefully some agitation will get him somewhere.
“We don't have a base. We sort of, um, wander around…” The one known as Vinik said sheepishly, rubbing a hand on his patched up arm. “We're looking for something. Something important to us.” The Toa's eyes glazed over in a pained look.
It's not the arm doing that. No amount of healing I could do would fix losing one's Matoran. I just hope the stories are true and I can feel bad about using that inflection on them.
“So no references of any kind?” Matua sighed and shook his head. “Ghosts on the breeze. Might as well ship you off Nynrah with a pat on the back.” His eyes darted to the final unknown in this equation to gauge her response.
Navy – or Nikila, rather – has yet to speak. Her eyes are hanging on every word; she's extracting information, just like me. Gotta be careful about this one–
“Look, uh…”
“Matua.”
“We didn't ask to get involved with this,” Vinik pleaded, practically throwing his hands in the air. “I can understand you're on edge but I was hoping for some common decency. We were tailing a couple of ne'er-do-wells; we didn't sign up for a Frostelus invasion!”
“Nor the cave in that followed.”
Matua raised a brow. Ah, she speaks. With her own venom no less! On the offense to counter my own, laser-guided. I have a feeling this lightning lass is going to prove useful for the Wall; might even fill some gaps if we're lucky. The Toa of the Green let his facade melt as he put one hand on the table, the other massaging his aching head. “I want to trust you all, it's the least I can do after saving who you could save, but–”
“You were knocked out.” Nikila leaned back in her seat, satisfied with herself. “Can't be a character witness if you didn't see anything.”
Matua almost smiled. Almost. “Have you interrogated before?”
“Not at all,” Nikila replied, shaking her head. “It's simply what makes sense.”
Vinik beamed with pride. “And that's why she's the strategist.” Lesovikk nodded with the assessment but Matua had the correct assumption that the he was smiling just as hard as his teammate on the inside.
The Toa of Air eventually piped up. “We couldn't save the others but we were able to protect this.” His masked glowed a spectral green as he pulled out a spherical stone from his back. “What is it?”
Matua's face darkened as Nikila's lit up. “Look at you, deft-hands! You've been favoring the Brakas lately, huh Les?”
He nodded as the Faxon dimmed, his concentration subsiding. “Nightmares aside, they're a fun bunch of Rahi. Useful for playing tricks–” Lesovikk turned to face the frowning Toa in front of him. “–or to do some reconnaissance without interference.”
Oh, so they're all clever. Fan-freaking-tastic. Flail and Mace need to pay more attention during the tools check. Matua sat there, silently seething. He was tempted to simply swipe the stone from the more senior Toa but that would've sent the wrong message, namely that it is, in fact, important. An easy lie of omission. Maybe now is the time I play my hand.
“Excellent job stealing a fortress key, Toa Cordak. Since you've been the only ones in the dungeon as of late, it's pretty much useless. But, inventory is inventory.” Matua held out his hand as he gauged the masks in front of him. There's hurt in those eyes. But I expected… more. Poison stings less with repeated exposure; perhaps they're inoculated to the revelation.
Lesovikk returned the Makoki stone without a word. “How long have you known?”
“He's known the entire time. Ever since we gave our names.” Nikila eyed her interrogator, both impressed and miffed.
“It was the eyes, wasn't it?” Matua replied. “The real interesting thing is that we have absolutely no record of you all, just hearsay from our fellow Toa. Now I can't judge you for what you've done, or what you've been through, but what I can grill you for not knowing the Code. Seriously, have none of you heard it?”
Vinik chuckled despite himself. “I think we predate both the Code and this Fortress by a couple thousand years.”
“Or at the very least,” Lesovikk offered, “in its current state. The last time we heard of the Code, it was a single edict: Heroes don't kill. Has it changed at all since then?”
Matua stroked his chin as he quickly formulated his response. “It certainly has expanded beyond that one parameter, that's for sure. A series of social norms grew out of that idea, gaining leaves every few hundred years, being codified every half millennia or so. I suppose when you've been steeped in it, these things don't seem to change that quick.” Imagine how it must be, then, to be dropped into this brand new world with not but a lifetime of sorrow in your shoulders. He sighed. “We can help each other. Information is hard to come by in this leg of the woods, and from what I've heard, you've been in several thickets of your own-"
"Maybe we can prune these plant metaphors if we agree to help? It might be worth it for that alone." Nikila rolled her eyes but she was clearly enjoying herself.
Matua shrugged in kind, a faint smile finally gracing his mask. "You got me there." The Toa of Plantlife gently laid a couple of fingers on Vinik's arm as he continued, his Kanohi Kaosa beginning to brighten the dark chamber. "I'll show you three to our temporary quarters and get you up to speed. But you are coming with me afterwards." His attention shifted from Nikila back to his new patient. "How's the arm?"
Vinik flexed apprehensively, and then once more with glee. "I'll be. You've got my mask's counterpart!"
"The only thing it doesn't heal are broken hearts and myself, and Brother, I've dealt with both plenty." Matua extended his fist, offering a Toa's greeting. "Welcome to Toa Fortress Outpost 42. Apologies for the new decor; the Frostelus are lousy renovators."

A17, B1, and C4 for the ask game.
A17 Favourite Glatorian: I have soft spots for Ackar, Kiina, and Gelu, but my favourite is probably Gresh. I don't know, the up-and-coming rookie with a hero complex thing just does it for me. Especially because, unlike most of those sorts of characters, Gresh isn't played for laughs. He's a very grim and serious character, fully aware of the harsh environment he lives in. He has some snark in him, which I enjoy plenty, but he's mostly just earnest. Young, a little naive, but firm in his principles and determined to do the best he can for himself and those under his care. He's just good. That said, I hated him in TLR, precisely because they ignored all his prior characterization to make him the stereotypical, quippy, hotheaded rookie. They even made him pout at one point, for crying out loud. Ugh. He's pretty much back to normal from what I've seen of Journey's End, so I'll just go ahead and ignore that little blip of character butchery in the movie.
B1 Favourite Set: Noooooo, why would you do this to me? I love them all! But alright, alright, if I have to pick one...it's either Lhikan and Kikanalo, or Jaller Mahri. Jaller Mahri, in my opinion, is the slickest-looking Toa using the Inika build. He's got such a clean, striking look to him, and I love the thematic consistency of his chestplate matching his crab and the shape of the Arthron, as well as his abdominal plate matching the guard on his sword. So so clean. Plus he has a little friend with a giant gun. What's not to love? Lhikan, on the other hand, is much plainer, but he's also a Metru build, so he's good-looking by default. And he has easily the coolest Toa Tools in all of Bionicle, and one of the coolest Rahi too. Guncrab is fun, but the Kikanalo just rules. Plus Lhikan has a gear function and his swords have dual weapon functionality (triple if you can't the shield form as a distinct mode from the skyboard), which is just a little more fun than the Cordak Blaster. It's a close race, but I'd probably give the edge to Lhikan. If it was just Lhikan, Jaller would win, but because the Kikanalo is included too, they come out on top, though just barely.
C4 How did you get into BIONICLE?: I actually don't quite remember? Well, I remember what happened, I just don't remember what order. I know I got my first set from a school Christmas fair; it was a Panrahk, if you want to know; and that got me into the sets. And my first book was Adventures #2, Trial by Fire, which my mom got through our local public library and read to me because I was about 4 at the time and books with chapters were still hard for me, and that got me hooked on the story. I know those two things happened in sequence, I just don't know in what order.
