TTPD Poetry Week!!!
masterlist! hey swifties! for the weeks leading up to ttpd, we have decided to arrange a taylor swift poetry week, where every week you may write a poem based on a random song from taylor's discography. Poems can be interpretations from the song, or experiences with the song that have impacted you or anything else about the song! Be creative! Have fun with it! Participants should post poems to the tag #ttpdpoetryweek every friday night and after accomplishing the assigned song poem for the week, you are of course free to write poems of songs of your choice! The random song will be posted every monday at 9 AM EST! We will try our best to reblog every poem written to @ttpdpoetryweek, so you may also tag that account <3 Feel free to ask any questions to @ttpdpoetryweek or @timeless-pdf! We hope you have fun with this event! week 1 poems!
-crediting : @torturedpoetsalchemy (WHY CANT I TAG U) for the original idea and @the-tortured-artists-department for helping me manage this and giving me several ideas! (and also @anervousmirrorball for being the first domino that kickstarted this plan <3 ily this wouldnt have happened without u)

my boy only breaks his favorite toys @ttpdpoetryweek
lucifer was god’s favorite he only followed his nature to question, to be curious for that, he fell
and i was your favorite you followed your nature to tell, to be helpful for that, i fell
and you were my favorite i rejected my nature to hate, to be vengeful why does it still feel like i fell?

Guilty as Sin?
am i guilty as sin, guilty as charged if i learn to shut down, to know who you are with no way to escape am i your willing friend?
we are first-second-third, what i deserve cut the middle-man out, now i'm built to serve if i do what you want can you give me my end
spirit away, another's mistake it was never my choice, take me again if i swear loyalty, please promise me back my place
learning to play the cowardly way despise courteous feet, twisting away there's the sting of your hand, still have your brand on my face
smile too fond, beach and bleach-blond if i give in to this, hard to resist he might make me complete, brushing the teeth from my throat
another home, dust, open roads if i'm learning to love, learning to cope will you forgive me when i now and then let you go?

TTPD Poetry Week 1: Castles Crumbling
Castles Crumbling (Jen’s Version)
Can you hear it now?
As we stand here, breathing in the rubble
Save me, hold me close
They’ve changed, screaming hate we’ve never known
Let down, I let them down.
Each face I see transforms my heart to dust
Save me from myself, won’t you?
Can you hear it now?
Remind me of the bells that once tolled.
Undo these mistakes, hold my hand as we try to heal.
My darkness, my light, my choices are bare to them all.
Brave this with me, won’t you?
Look at the sky, can you see the stars?
I know we can fight this, even as it crashes down around us.
Never give up.
Give only more.

point of view: from the outside
fool me once, fool me twice,
i fell both times.
sisters don't scalp simple things,
they don't leave you alone
when you clam up,
they don't keep a finger on the trigger
and smile like they care.
sisters can tell what you feel, they're
not the ones who cause you despair,
not the ones whose name leaves
poison in your mouth,
rot in your memories.
for years and a few more
i didn't feel, i didn't want
— i couldn't feel, i couldn't want.
i didn't know then but i wish
i could tell myself:
sisters aren't traitors,
they don't make you wait in the sun.
they wait for you in the rain.
the girl you knew once isn't yours
to own nor to lose.
so go along, be a man, lose your temper,
learn your lesson:
sisters brighten your blank canvas
with happy little trees.
they don't snake around your ears
and whisper some cacophony
in a language you're inept in.
they don't shut you out
and decry what you've done.
take notes, outsider:
be careful who you let in,
be careful who you've let in, too.
but: shake someone's hand and mean it
hug someone, love them when you do.
the outside isn't a bad place to be in
once you've found your troupe.

@ttpdpoetryweek anti-hero
i will never be your perfect hero no matter how many times
i sweep you up into my arms against the church bell chimes
in the background i can hear the sounds of demons roaring
but none of that will matter when i see you look adoring
the ghosts of the looks i once claimed from your eyes
they haunt me in nightmares they’re wringing me dry
i miss you and wish you had listened to me
but i should’ve known you were going to leave.

Willow
A heaven that I hadn't felt since the sanctity of my mother's womb
My childhood living room
Stroked with cords and frost
Somehow you placed me back in Eden
That everlasting golden season
Built me a home in a one-blink evening, promised you'd cover the cost
We crossed the threshold, my eager bare toes before your armoured boot
Compliments overspilling, overfilling, plastic flowers taking root
As long as it never emptied, never ended, never tempted by the fruit
I never would have left, but you left me there,
Stole my first time and my sleep
I had been a flowering willow, so now all I do is weep
If I had been born a man, perhaps I would stand
Stoic tree despite the loss
Down by the water, as a daughter, I will cave under the moss.

Week 1 of @ttpdpoetryweek
Prompt: Castles Crumbling (heavily inspired by the meeting on the turret stairs by Frederic William Burton)
There is nothing to be done, As I pass you on the stairs, The walls around us a tomb, Your hand in mine like a prayer. The castle crumbles brick by brick, The mob outside gathers, Are they here for you or me?  Or did it ever matter?  Their cries are full of hatred,  An Empire falls to the ground, And you can’t really save me, For I am already drowned.  My chest is sick and heavy, What I breathe in must come out, On the turret stairs we meet, Being with you, I am without. If you fell, did I push you?  Am I guilty of this sin?  The dust covers you over, And I am torn limb from limb.

TTPD POETRY WEEK
Song: Castles Crumbling
the moat didn't work
it is useless against arrows
and words thrown like daggers
they never aimed for my heart
they aim for my legs, my foundation,
longing to topple me over
my dignity, my living castle
crumbling like too old cake
my body, my fortress
my life, my great mistake
wanted once but not anymore
those who loved me
laugh as my tears outpour
I used to stand so tall
my castle walls high but pretty
my moat designed to weed out the petty
not a pretty palace like most royals lounge in
but a fortress built on old ruins
the first brick broke by choice
I was lonely I wanted company
no one could get through my walls
until they came like a Trojan Horse
wanting in to my empty citadel
"I should have known," I yell
but I would still make the same mistake
again
they loved me when I threw big parties
but not when I dreamed of armies
of a way to make something of myself
before they turned me into someone else
a castle ruined, a castle crumbled
the stones did gleam in the sun
the castle's flag whipped in the wind
now it is torn to shreds
crumbling down like my walls
when I let them in
they launched their catapults right through the walls
but I was broken before they watched me fall
broken by the betrayal if not by the missiles
my subjects became my demise
an overthrown queen for the history books
a decade later,
strangers will walk through my ruins
wondering at beauty so quickly wrecked
they'll like me better broken, crumbled
and I'll just sit and watch
Wondering if this is worth what was lost

TTPD POETRY WEEK SUBMISSION
Week 1: Castles Crumbling
Sun is high
Tide is low
To the ocean, she will go
The waves, they soothe her
Into a trance
Scraping, patting, shaping sand
As she builds castles with her hands.
Idlewild
Lost in thought
By herself, she forgot
The Pacific, how specific
When her heart was whole
Spinning, skipping, on the coast
Traced her name on the way home
The salted wind
It tastes the same
But the sands of time
Have shifted, changed
She shakes her head
Of the reverie
Shapes a moat, fills it with the sea
Builds up curtain walls
And turrets tall
And over there is the Great Hall.
Packs the sand into towers
Carves out a Barbican for hours.
Cuts battlements with broken twigs
Digs up driftwood for a drawbridge.
Windows made of speckled shells
each one for a former self.
Presses pebbles into ramparts
Transforms her sadness into art.
Tide is high
Sun is low
Aching back, she stands up slow
The waves, they wash her
To her core
Rising, rolling waters roar
As the castle crumbles to the shore.
