Lucifer’s Challenge Ch. 5

Chapter Four here!

Description: Levi has been even more reclusive than usual after Mammon went and bragged about his time with MC. So she is there with presents and a determination to prove to him that she wants to spend time with him.

Pairing: Levi/MC

Title: I Want to Spend Time with Otak-You!

It wasn’t unusual for Levi to not be seen around the house much but he hadn’t even answered MC’s texts with stickers. She was starting to grow worried about him and went to Lucifer about what she should do. It was through him that she found out that Mammon had been less than quiet about the time they had spent together. That wasn’t unusual either but he had apparently taken it too far when he told Levi that he would never have something like that with her during a heated round of a game. Unfortunately Levi fell for the taunt, not believing that anyone would want to be such an icky otaku. Mammon tried to take it back but the damage was done.

Lucifer was trying his best to mend the situation on his own, which mostly consisted of lots of threats to Mammon, and hadn’t wanted to upset her but conceded that maybe she could better handle the situation. He sent her off with a kiss and a quiet plead, their foreheads pressed together, to help his brother. MC nodded but reminded him that she wasn’t just doing this because he asked, she was doing it because she loved Levi. Lucifer backed away, giving a firm nod, but she could swear that she heard him mutter something about that was why he loved her.

That was how she ended up at Levi’s door, a wrapped present in hand and a bag of extra goodies dangling in the crook of her arm. She knocked on the door, putting on her most cheerful voice as she called out his name. When she got no answer her smile faded slightly and she knocked harder. She heard the sound of his favorite fighting game get louder and she frowned fully. He was trying to drown her out but she wasn’t here to give up. Her knocking turned into pounding, throwing her body into it as she shouted at him that she knew he was in there.

She nearly fell on her face when the door suddenly opened, the only thing stopping her was crashing into a firm chest instead. MC blinked slowly, looking up to see a blushing Levi whose lips were quivering as he tried to keep an angry face. “You can’t keep making all this normie noise and then try to distract me by pulling an anime troupe! Y-you didn’t even do it right! You’re supposed to run into me in the school hallway or when you’re running away from danger. What do you even want?” he asked, hands hovering over her shoulders like he wasn’t sure if he wanted to push her away or pull her closer.

MC knew that she could easily fall into an argument with him here, she could demand to know why he had been avoiding her and wouldn’t let her in, but knew that would get them nowhere. Fighting now would just confirm to him that she didn’t actually want to be there, that she would be having a better time with his brothers, and she wasn’t about to let him retreat into those thoughts. Instead MC pushed the bubbling anger down and found her smile again, something Levi hadn’t been expecting given his nervous gulp.

“I missed you Leviachan, isn’t that reason enough to want to come see you?” she said, juggling the gifts so that she could hug him tightly. She could feel him tensing and heard a distressed noise in the back of his throat but she wasn’t letting up. They stayed like that for several minutes before he finally gave in, still not saying anything but at least returning the hug. MC took this as a good sign and pushed herself onto her tip toes so she could kiss his cheek, giggling when she saw his whole face go red and felt the shaking in his legs.

“I knew you had to miss me too,” she said with a couple more kisses for good measure before she pulled away from him. She kicked the door closed without looking, giving him no time to argue as she presented the presents to him. “I was thinking of you while I was up in the human world too. Here, to prove it,” she said handing them over and pushing past him to make herself comfortable in his room.

He didn’t seem to know what to do with this quick turn of events, he held the presents away from himself and nearly tripped as he spun around to watch her. He opened his mouth, choking on whatever argument rose there which just made him turn even more interesting colors. She could see that he was on the verge of getting overwhelmed from all the different things he must be thinking so MC tried to focus his thoughts. “You’re supposed to open them,” she prodded gently, hands clasped behind her back and nodding encouragingly.

It seemed to work, though it didn’t stop Levi from muttering a note to his phone about posting something about normies being pushy to his blog later. He looked into the bag first, rummaging in and pulling out the assortment of candy that was in there. His mood instantly changed, eyes lighting up and unable to contain an exclamation of excitement. “These are from an exclusive snack subscription box promoting the Ruri-Chan movie! I couldn’t get them shipped through Akuzon so it wouldn’t deliver to the Devildom. How did you get your hands on it, I thought they had sold out?!” he said, eyes already darting to his shelves trying to figure out exactly how he could display them. Probably how to keep them away from Beel’s bloodhound nose too.

“I have a friend who was a monthly subscriber but didn’t know much about the series so they let me have it. I would have done anything to get it for you though, I know how much it meant to you,” she said, smiling brightly that he enjoyed it as much as she hoped he would. “That was just for you, the second one is something we can do together!” she said, now bouncing on the balls of her feet in anticipation.

Any anger was now replaced with a child like eagerness to rip open the wrapping paper. She loved seeing that passion in him and was glad she could play a part in sparking it. “Wooooooaaaah! A Switch?! An actual non demon knockoff Switch. Its not cursed or anything!” he said holding it up to show off to Henry 2.0 who glubbed in what she assumed was unparalleled joy. “I have a game list a mile long of what I want to play and you told me you have one too, right? That means we can play together!” he said, eyes closed as he smiled and swayed happily.

“Mhm thats why I told you I got it for you. I can kick your butt at Mario Kart whenever I want and you can come see my Animal Crossing island! You would be proud of how many hours I’ve put into it, the dark bags under my eyes from no sleep and days in my room are really a testament to how far I’ve come from being a normie,” MC said, giving a sage nod before erupting into a fit of giggles. Levi had rushed over to her, capturing her in a hug. It was slightly awkward, he didn’t seem to have much practice with what to do with his lanky limbs or where he was supposed to put his head but she didn’t mind. She didn’t have any problem with helping him practice this or any other way he wanted to get close to her.

“Mammon is going to be sooooo jealous~ he’s been talking about how much he could sell yours for if he ever found it. Oops I don’t think that I was supposed to tell you that. Oh well, guess you’ll just have to be mad at him now and not spend any more time with him lol” he said, a vicious glint in his eyes. Ah, there was that envy of his. She knew that she probably shouldn’t condone it but she couldn’t deny that there was something that stirred in her stomach at seeing that anger, that near possessiveness, that she liked.

“I’m so happy that you like it,” she said, sitting down on the second gaming chair he had gotten for her during her last stay in the Devildom. She gave a quick spin, sighing happily seeing him clear space hastily for his gifts. She looked around the room contently, giving him the time that he needed to set everything up but frowned, noticing something missing. Or rather a new something that was supposed to be there.

“Levi,” she said, slamming her foot down to stop her rotation. She tried to keep her voice even but Lucifer must have been rubbing off on her because even she was shocked by the sternness in it “wasn’t there something that you were supposed to get while I was away at school? A gift for me so that I wouldn’t have to try to cram myself into a bathtub with you if I spent the night in your room?”

He froze, his hands shaking over his line of Ruri-chan branded food collection, his shoulders hunched up nearly to his ears. She could practically see a dark cloud forming over him as he remembered the promise he had made and had neglected to keep. She tapped her foot impatiently, not angry exactly but disappointed that she had put all this work in and he hadn’t even done the one thing she had asked of him. She knew that he was easily distracted but did he really not give her much thought at all when she wasn’t around? It actually stung a little but she was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

“Uhhhh well um the thing is that …” he started, fumbling for words and bringing his hands close to his chest to start wringing them. “I did start looking for a bed but they all looked so boring! I couldn’t concentrate so I figured I would put on some anime as background noise to help but it turned out to be a really good new one. It can’t be helped! It wasn’t my fault! Blame That Time I Thought I was Playing a Mobile Game but It Turns Out it was Evil!” he cried, throwing himself down onto his knees and crawling to MC. He hugged her legs, resting his head on her lap and giving another round of wails “My horrible, stupid otaku brain is a sabotage, I’m useless and its no wonder that you don’t want to spend any time with me!”

MC pinched the bridge of her nose, it was taking one step forward and two steps back with him. She went over her options of how to deal with this, she didn’t want to let him off the hook but didn’t think that berating him would get the reaction that she wanted from him. She had to find an even ground, use a bit of tough love and hopefully get to reward him later. “You’re not useless but you should have tried harder. Or at least told me so I could have helped,” she told him, patting his head before pushing him off. He fell onto his butt, lip quivering while he looked up at her.

“It is going to get done now. We’ll go shopping together, in a real store not just online because you will just get distracted again. You need a bed, I can’t sleep in a bathtub with you Leviathan,” she said sternly, marching back to the door and swinging it open “I am going to be in the entry hall and you better be there in five minutes, do I make myself clear?” He didn’t say anything, he just sat on the floor staring at her with his mouth open and she was afraid she was being too harsh. Sure, it was nothing like how Lucifer dealt with these things but compared to her normal tone she was sure it was jarring. She almost apologized until she saw the blush on his cheeks and a bulging outline in his sweatpants.

It took all of her willpower not to call him on it then and there. Apparently he liked this bossy side of her, she wasn’t really surprised when she thought about it but it was nice information to store away for the very near future. So for now she just gave a cock of her head, as if daring him to disobey, then left without looking back. Sure enough at almost five minutes on the dot Levi was there, flushed but dressed for their impromptu day out.

“If we shop for a bed together aren’t people going to think that we are like a normie couple?!” he grimaced when they walked down the row of shops “I told everyone online that I was dating someone as cool as Henry. If someone sees me my online life will be ruined!”He ran his hands down his face, only stopping when MC clicked her tongue at him and grabbed one of his hands.

“We are a couple and we are doing a normal thing but it doesn’t make you a normie. Even just saying that word and being concerned about that makes you very much not a normie,” she laughed with a roll of her eyes. “Not to mention a normie couple doesn’t involve eight people. I think you are safe and if not I’ll fight all of those mean old trolls for you,” she cooed and pinched his cheek with her free hand. It brought more pouting but it didn’t stop him from rubbing his head against her hand when she let her fingers linger after the pinch.

The argument seemingly over now MC rewarded Levi with a kiss to his knuckles before dragging him into what she was sure was his own fresh level of hell: a furniture store. She had to admit that it wasn’t her favorite either, if she thought that human salesmen were bad it was nothing compared to demons. Apparently since summoning crossroad deals had gone out of style those demons had gone into commissioned sales work and they were doing a hell of a job. It was Levi who had to keep reminding her that they weren’t there to furnish a whole house as she kept getting pulled into the, what could have been a very literal, spell of the place.

It all seemed to get better when Levi snapped, showing his demon form and dropping Lucifer’s name as well as his own Lord of the Devildom status. It was scary and a bit of a turn on, which about summed up most of her experiences with all of the brothers anyway. It seemed to do the trick, they were left alone to browse at their own pace. “Ugh I can’t believe that actually worked,” Levi groaned, tail twitching and only stopping when it wrapped around her leg possessively. MC didn’t mind having to walk close to him and grinned when it seemed that he didn’t even seem to know what he was doing. “I have seen Mammon try it a few times at places that didn’t know him yet. It's horrible but I just couldn’t take it anymore. So hurry and find something you like please.”

MC nodded, she didn’t want to spend any more time there than needed after all, but she also was liking spending this time with him. She loved the nights spent staying up until the early morning hours watching or playing things with him but it felt nice to have him away from all those distractions. It felt like there was more time to actually be with him and she liked seeing this side of him, only in part because it made her the center of his attention.

She pulled him along to a section that had a few styles of bedroom sets she actually liked, having to pull him away from the water beds that he was eyeing. There were too many claws in the house to even humor the novelty. She gravitated towards the one she thought he might like the most, a headboard with lots of shelving and lights. She pulled him down on the bed with her, sending them both bouncing. “Look at this, lots of places to put new figurines and box sets. And possibly the best part,” she said humming a fake drum roll “it has charger outlets built in! You won’t even have to leave the bed to charge any of your devices”

He seemed to perk up at this news, eyes going wider as he seemed to consider the possibilities but there was still a reluctance there. But there was hope in the fact that he wasn’t trying to argue so MC pushed a little more. “There’s lots of room for us too,” she said, sliding back to the middle of the bed and dragging him with her. She eased them down so they were lying down, she nestled herself in the crook of his arm and rested a hand on his thigh. “A lot more room than a bathtub or my small bed. You could still be playing something while I …” she trailed off, her hand creeping up and none so gently rubbing at his crotch.

He shot straight up, nostrils flaring and eyes shut tight. “I think this bed is fine,” she said, voice cracking “they have same day delivery. Is that ok MC?” He turned to her, searching for any sign of approval. She of course wanted to give it to him right away but she made him wait for it. She pretended to mull it over, mumbling about how this really should have been done already before finally giving him a nod. It was all he needed before rushing off to take care of all the paperwork. She watched him go biting on her lip, wondering if it was wrong that she liked having this sort of power over him.

MC knew that this was perhaps going to be the most torturous part so she left to go find something that would be some light at the end of the tunnel for him. Or at least something to tide him over until she was able to make good on her promise from inside. When Levi finally escaped, looking like he just sat through a live action Netflix special of his favorite show, MC was holding two Devilgram worthy crepes. He eyed them wearily “You didn’t have to wait for me if you were hungry enough for two,” he sighed.

“I did if one of them was for you,” she said, handing over the purple themed one before squeezing in for a selfie with him. She took it while he was still frazzled by the whole thing and quickly read out what she was typing underneath the caption “the only thing I love more than sweet treats is spending time with Leviachan~” She added several emojis, hashtags and tagged him for good measure. She giggled and held up her crepe in a cheers motion before finally digging in.

“.... did you mean what you posted? Or do you just do that thing Asmo does where he posts anything just to get attention?” Levi asked as they started the walk back to the house, kicking an empty bottle they passed into the street. He was still staring down at his food like it was a trap, barely touched even though she was currently finishing off the last of hers.

“Mhm, every word buuuut I did do it for a bit of attention too. I wanted everyone to see that I got to spend the day with such an amazing guy and maybe make a few people jealous too,” she said with a wink, skipping ahead a few paces just so she could turn around to face him. He stopped, looking down at her with dewy eyes that she quickly tried to shoo away. “I like spending time with you Levi, I hope we can do it more. Its one of the reason I wanted to get the bed you know? So I can spend as much time with you as possible, as close as possible” she said, batting her eyelashes up at him. She stepped in closer, standing on tip toes and craning her neck as much as she could hoping he would take her invitation.

“MC, y-you got whipped cream on your lips,” he stuttered, raising an unsure hand to wipe away the smudge and his face getting closer “let me make sure there’s nothing else I missed …” Then with a deep breath he finally kissed her. Or at least he pressed his lips against hers but she wasn’t above getting an inch and taking a mile. She threw her arms around his neck and pulled him in closer. He squeaked but didn’t protest, one arm holding onto her waist protectively as she deepened the kiss.

They finally parted, him gasping for breath which made her giggle. “Y-yep I think you’re all clean!” he said, face red and looking away from her.

“Mmm you might have spoken too soon … oh Levi you didn’t even get to eat any,” MC said with a frown looking down at the cream filled pastry they had squished between them in the heat of the moment.

“Its ok, I’m getting to spend the whole day with you so as long as you aren’t angry about your shirt then uh it was worth it I think,” he blushed, trying to wipe away as much of the mess from her as he could.

She grinned at him, grabbing his wrist so that his hands were forced to rest against her chest. “I don’t mind, I have something I think you’ll like seeing me even better. So lets go wait for that bed hm~”

Do you prefer having carpets or hardwood floors? Hardwood floors. Easier to clean and just looks better imo. When was the last time you took a bath? Is this something you do often or do you prefer taking showers? Not since I was a kid, probably. I don't like baths; it feels dirty. What’s your favorite way to style your hair? Do you do this hairstyle often or is it too much hassle for you? "I can’t style it any way." <<<< Mine is too short, too. Do you have a real or artificial tree at Christmas? We always use artificial. The mess isn't worth it. What’s your favourite snack to make when you watch a movie? Popcorn, of course. Do you prefer the Beatles or the Rolling Stones? The Rolling Stones. The only Beatles' song off the top of my head that I enjoy is "Hey, Jude," while there's a handful of Stones' songs I like. When was the last time you played a game of Monopoly? Do you spend too much time online? My life is online. It's depressing, and very. I usually don't know what to do with myself if I don't have access to it. What is your biggest annoyance? Watch YouTube, play WoW, write, read, take pictures... Not a lot. I've been stuck with anhedonia for years; not a lot of things give me any sort of pleasure, even the aforementioned things sometimes. Can you type without looking at the keyboard? Yeah. Do you ever feel like people use you? I've sure as shit felt it before. What role does religion play in your life? None. It's honestly a place of bitterness. Can you sleep with your eyes open? Noooooooo, that shit creeps me out. How often (if ever) do you use moisturiser? Pretty much never... but I need to considering my skin is dry as the Sahara. Have you had any of your wisdom teeth removed? What was the reason? (eg. infection, impaction, lack of space). No. What was the reason for your last hospital visit? I visited Mom after her surgery. Do you use a laptop, desktop, tablet or phone to take your surveys? Laptop. Do you have any debt? If so, are you on top of paying it all back? College debt, for sure. I dropped out three different times. No, I'm nowhere near on top of it. How often do you travel by public transport? Never. Do you have an Instagram account? If so, how often do you post on there and what kind of things do you post? I have three, haha. I don't post on any regularly enough... but I use my first one most. My "main" one is my primary photography one, and I have a second photography account for my darker/roadkill/"vulture culture" work. Lastly I made one for my pets... yes, I decided to be one of those people lmao. Are you close to your extended family? Do you wish you were closer? Definitely not, but we want to try to get closer. In Grammy's last days, she shared that she wished we were more "together" so much. Do you prefer to give your pets human names or not? Definitely not human names, at least usually. Have you ever used a fire extinguisher? Would you know how to use one without reading the instructions? No; I doubt it. What’s the worst thing you’ve ever had to deal with at your job? When I worked, impatient customers. What was the last thing you used your mobile phone for? Listening to music. While my laptop is kaput, I'm using an old one, but it's super slow so I'm just using my phone for music and videos. Did you used to play The Sims? What version or expansion pack was your favorite one to play? I loved the animals one; I went through a period of playing that a loooot. There was also an African wildlife one that I had, but that one was pretty boring, honestly. I never got into the human ones. What quality do you value most highly in others? Probably compassion. Who has made the biggest sacrifice for you? Mom. What was your best find from a flea market, garage sale, ebay or thrift? I got an AWESOME shipwreck w/ a sea serpent nightlight from the flea market once. What is one selfish thing you tend to do? Uhhhh I'm unsure. I try not to be selfish. Have you ever written a letter to a soldier? No, but man does this make me think of "Travelin' Soldier." I love that song so much, man. Always have. What do you use batteries for the most often? Ha, it used to be my mouse, but now that I have one that plugs up to the computer to charge, idk. What’s the smallest thing you’ve ended a relationship over? "I don’t think I’ve ended any kind of relationship over something small." <<<< Would you rather order a starter (appetiser) or a dessert? Or would you be able to manage a full three courses? It really depends on what I want and how hungry I am. If I had the first two though, I almost certainly couldn't handle a dessert. Have you or a member of your family been diagnosed with COVID yet? My older sister had it very badly to the point she wound up in the ER. It's no fucking joke. Aside from the necessities (eating, breathing etc.) what is something you do every single day, without fail? I was going to say “get on the computer” or something of the sort, but what if I don’t have access to technology that day for whatever reason? In that case, I’d think of Jason to some point. There isn’t a day that passes when he’s not lurking in my head somewhere. Is there anything you enjoy that’s considered childish for your age? What is it? Roleplaying. Some shows. I’m sure there’s plenty others. How many times a day do you use the bathroom? A LOT. If I’m drinking something, a lot of the time, I almost immediately have to go pee after a single sip. Do you need caffeine to wake up in the morning? What’s your drink of choice? I wouldn’t say I NEED it, no. I do regularly have my Mountain Dew in the morning in place of coffee tho lmao. That’s out of habit, though. Do you live somewhere with lots of livestock or wild animals? Livestock, absolutely. Wild animals, sure, so long you’re not right in a city. Well, even then, roadkill isn’t rare. Would you rather live somewhere rural or urban? RURAL. Mom and I are both having trouble adjusting to living in the suburbs. The only good thing is we’re closer to everything. Is there anything (a hobby, for example) that’s guaranteed to always make you feel better when you’ve had a bad day? Not absolutely without fail. If you’re struggling with your mental health, who are you most likely to open up to, or would you bottle it up instead? I VERY rarely bottle it up. That is so unhealthy. I confide in my mom, usually. What room of your house do you spend the most time in? Is this through choice or necessity? Ugh, my bedroom… but yeah, it’s choice. I COULD be in the kitchen or living room on the laptop, I just don’t want to for privacy’s sake. I’m waiting for the extra bedroom to be cleaned out to turn that into like my “dayroom” or “office.” I’m putting a desk in there, lots of motivational stuff, just things to inspire me to work. I NEED away from my bed. I only want to use it to sleep. If you have pets, do you snuggle with them when you’re having a bad time? Does it make you feel better? Well, it’s hard to “snuggle” with a snake, but I’ll still take her out sometimes and she gets comfortable against me for warmth. I do however definitely snuggle with my cat Roman, because he’s a total cuddlebug and super affectionate with me. How would you rate Stephen King as a writer? Shockingly, I haven’t read a novel by him. However, knowing stories he’s written and his genre, I think I’d absolutely love him. What movie are you looking forward to? Oh goodness, I have no idea. I’m totally out of touch with movies. Have you been to see an opera? No, they don’t appeal to me. What do you wish that you knew with more certainty? My career success. Of the following things, which would you most like to have more of? Drink, dreams, bed, drugs, lust, lies, hate, love, fear, fun, pain, flesh, stars, smiles, fame, sex: Love, of course. Would you ever consider working for the government? Absolutely not. What are the best and worst television channels? I don’t need to even watch television to tell you Discovery is best. Idk about worst. If you had a magical pencil and everything you drew became real what would you draw? Hm… if I drew like, Earth overlayed with a peace symbol, would that cause world peace? What would you like to touch? A wild (well, habituated) meerkat. Meerkats are just… so important in my life. Without them, I wouldn’t have met people who’ve greatly affected and even changed my life. I know the day I (hopefully) hold or pet one will be one where I cry. Does anything you own glow in the dark? I don’t know. Would you rather ride a dragon or a unicorn? Who the hell would answer “unicorn” to this???? Dragons are so so so superior. Can you make a balloon animal? No. How many glasses of water do you drink each day? Rarely more than two, if even that. What do you like in a poem, accessibility, crypticness, or something in between? I guess of these options, leaving some cryptic space, room for the reader to imagine. What I cherish most in poetry though is descriptiveness, but not to an excessive point where it’s just hard to understand. Who do you find yourself in constant conflict with? Why the conflict? MYSELF. I’m just so mad at and disappointed with myself. What subjects do you refuse to talk about? Why are you hiding from them? I mean, none, really. With some people I’m willing to talk about whatever topic. Greatest black and white film: Idk, I can’t recall enough. Greatest film three hours or longer: Troy. I adore that movie. I should watch it again…

Your favorite age state: Depends on what for. Young adults are the easiest to manage and have more options, but toddlers are the most challenging on a Baby Challenge.

Your favorite season: Autumn, always. Its colors are just beautiful.

How was your day: (Tumblr erased all my hard work on this thing, but the day I first wrote it I had my blood taken so not great). Today, I discovered the extent of human stupidity in mass hysteria situations. Never seen a supermarket so empty of food before.

Your favorite sim (picture if possible): I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite sim of all time, I have far too many sims I love for different reasons, but this one was specially hard to get right so we feel particularly proud.

His name is Carles Serra, and he’s a parental figure for two of the MCs of the story we’re working on. He’s a math and ethics teacher on a very exclusive highschool, and he needed to have both a very refined and snobbish air and this inevitable awkwardness all math teachers seem to have. Plus, he has to deal with teenage drama all through the story, so I feel like he needs a lot of love. And maybe some vacation.

Which Sims games you have played (including mobile games): Sims 2, 3 and 4. And I think I once tried to make a sim on a terrible PS2 version or something.

Propose a crazy scheme: Mandatory therapy for teens so everyone learns empathy and management of one’s emotions would be pretty neat.

Best part of simblr: Sharing our common passion with others in a free and creative way, probably.

Worst part of simblr: The lack of interaction, I guess. I had only ever been in a very small fandom here on tumblr before, and compared to the closeness of that comunity, I feel like simblr is... very scattered.

What other games you play: Play Station ones, mostly. Whatever gives me a compelling story.

Hello all! Welcome back to the MFackenthal Show! I am so glad that you are here today. If you’re new to the show, I encourage you to go here to find past episodes. There are only a few.

The MFackenthal Show has officially been green lit for more episodes! We used to only be able to afford to run the show every once in a while, but the people have spoken - they want to see the show more often! The funding came through and we hope to give the people what they want! Do you want to be on the show? Do you have someone that you want to see on the show? I could not be more excited to bring you this next guest. She has been with the fandom for quite a while. She was one of the first people I started communicating with on a regular basis. She has talked me up, supported me from the beginning and though she hasn’t written much lately - when she does drop a chapter - it’s long and it’s worth it! Please welcome to the stage @maxattack-powell!!!!! (Insert Cheering here!)

(Megs greets Max with a hug - which means that Megs essentially runs and leaps into Max’s arms. Max is fairly tall and Megs is barely 5′3″)

Megs: Max, I am so happy that you are here! Can you believe that you’re here today?

Max: Haha, yes - I can. But I am honored to be here.

Megs: Max, sit with me. For those in the audience who may not know you, tell us about when and why you joined the fandom.

Max: Yanno, I always made my best guess at this before, but I knew you were going to ask me this - so I looked it up. Did you know that now there’s this Official Tumblr blog called @memories, and it knows down to the minute when someone joined? Let me go check it… *digs through the blogs posts* Okay, it was apparently 07/31/2017 at 1:17:15 PM, which means it must have been on the weekend because of the time of day haha.

As for why ... hmm, well… I found the Choices app one day, when it only had like… three series I think! Anyone else remember that time?

Megs: I do! Because I was playing Hollywood University I think I downloaded choices the day the app came out.

Max: Awh! Well, I fell in love with The Freshman Series. Mostly because of Chris Powell and Zack Zilberg, and a long time ago I was in another fandom that had tons of fan fiction/art… so I googled “Choices Chris Powell” and any other combination I could think of looking for possible fanfiction. The fandom was almost non existent at the time. There was actually one person, who has long since left the fandom due to fandom dramas - we all know the kinds I’m talking about - but a few others had started posting their works as well… and I got hooked. Eventually I felt the bug to write how I felt TF should play out as well, and here I am *looks back at the “joined tumblr timestamp”* uhh… 20ish months ago! Haha!!

Megs: LOL, when you put it that way it doesn’t sound like that long ago ... lets call a spade a spade - that was almost 2 years ago! That’s amazing! You have to have seen so much in this fandom! What is it that keeps you around?

Max: There are so many awesome people in this fandom, in this world we’ve all created for our pixelated loves lol. Soooo many creative minds to follow and enjoy. The content people share, original or repost… it’s great.

... Unfortunately it is also a double edge sword ... the drama, the jealousy, the rumors, the hate, etc. I’ve sadly seen far too much and it comes in so many forms… it’s unnecessary.

Megs: I couldn’t agree more! If you could tell the fandom one thing - what would it be?

Max: It would be that we’re all here because we want to have a good time. No one came here to get ridiculed, to be scrutinized or chastised for their opinions, their likes or dislikes. Real life has enough of that going on. We are all individuals - if you want to be treated nicely, fairly, etc. you must also do the same to others. There is no reason someone must agree with you or anyone else. Live and let live. Embrace our differences as it makes us who we are. Most of the issues I see stem from a simple difference in opinion. That is ridiculous. Everyone’s entitled to their own thoughts. We must build each other up, not tear one another down. No one here owes anyone anything, now go have some fun.

(The room stands up in applause!)

Megs: You should definitely stand up and take a bow, Max!

(Max does just as Megs suggests - but she also makes Megs stand up and do the same. Laughing, they both sit back down.)

Awh, Max ... okay, let’s get back to you. We know that you’d fight anyone for the position of The Chris Powell Appreciation/Fan Club. And for those who don’t know, Max has been retelling the full The Freshman series, interweaving dialogue and plot from PB but also adding much of her own content. MC and Chris get a backstory. Chris gets best friends from back home. What is your favorite piece that you have written?

Max: Oh geez hahaha. Um… can I just say The Freshman Chronicles as a whole? I’ve written for different fandoms, and I have original WIPs but I’ll stick to the Choices fandom for this answer. I’ve put a lot of time into TFC. Tons of additional story work, research on characters and their backgrounds, PBs and my own OCs. You should see my file folder setup haha. It’s crazy… I have so many docs, pictures and gifs. Most organized by location (Hartfeld, Boston, New Haven, Cherryfield, etc.), then by character… and on some I get more detailed and split them by emotion and situation.

Megs: By what again?

Max: Emotion and Situation ... Yeah. I warned you it was crazy! *laughs* TFC was the reason I joined tumblr really. Instead of staying a Nonny and only reading others posted works. I wanted to comment, like and reblog what I enjoyed, while I also worked on my own contribution to the fandom. I had a vision for Chris and MC that had more than the game could give, and I wanted to see if i was still any good at writing since it had been years and years… it’s funny to see how different my current posts are from my first over a year ago. Makes me want to go update a few because they could use a little help *awkward laugh*

Megs: I’m sure we can all relate to that! Hmmm ... I’m starting to get a feel for this, I think, but what is your writing process?

Max: Lots of planning, mostly in my head. When I feel like I have a decent concept I might type out some notes or work it into my outline (another crazy thing I have going for TFC because it’s so big haha). But usually, once I hatch out a basic plan on where I’m going… I just start typing. Keeping the general plot and main points I want to hit in mind, I simply start typing… keeping it as organic as possible. It usually works out well.

Megs: Do you have any advice for other writers?

Max: First, and most importantly… do it because you enjoy it. Don’t do it for likes, reblogs, popularity, etc. If you’re having a good time dreaming things up and typing them out, that’s what’s important. The rest is just an extra bonus. Also, don’t give up. It’s easy to become discouraged, frustrated, distracted and more… but remember - your creative cells can’t be running all the time. They need to rest just like your body. Take breaks… go read, play games, hang out with friends/family, watch a movie… whatever. Just do something to help you relax, to reset and you’ll very probably find inspiration and/or motivation to continue. Remember, this is for fun. *wink and finger guns*

Megs: So what do you do for fun?

Max: I actually have a few things I do regularly. A big one is making costumes/props for conventions, small productions, etc. I also train and show horses. I do the same with my dogs, but more for competitions and not really any shows. I’ve always drawn, sculpted, painted since I was old enough to hold things with my hands… and about a year ago I started learning how to do it digitally as well. I run (not at all for fun haha) and play hockey (totally for fun), follow comics and watch anime. I've restored houses, cars and old furniture. I like to read as much as I can - that’s an important one. I also play video games. Something I’ve done since I was young… I've even competed, and won, a few gaming tournaments.

Megs: You don’t know how to be bored do you?

Max: LOL, Megs. Yeah, um, so there’s a “few” *makes air quotes* of my never ending list of interests haha. Gives me a lot to talk about with people, eh?

Megs: Not that I can understand how you’d have time for this ... but what do you do to help pay for your many activities?

Max: Oh like, my job? Well that can be a simple answer… like “I work in software” but the more interesting way to say it is I use my MBA, experience in business, the financial industry and technology to improve and stabilize my customers environment through technological solutions that fit their specific needs. *presses lips together* I solve problems by designing solutions. Bored yet? Hahaha.

Megs: No! That sounds wonderful! Who doesn’t want their stuff to be designed better? Any chance you could start working for tumblr? Some of us have a few complaints ... tags ... mobile losing our work ...

Max: I’m not sure they could pay me enough to help them with all of their problems! But, tumblr, feel free to send me an offer!

Megs: Seriously - send her a 6 figure offer!

Max: Okay, Megs, well now I have a question for you.

Megs: Uhhhh, Max, that’s not exactly how this is supposed to go.

Max: Yeah, don’t care. Your fans need to know ... Hoooow do you find the time to read and review so much?! And I know that’s just in this fandom. I know you read books and you may read for other fandoms!? Seriously, it’s awesome. We need to clock your page flipping speed haha.

Megs: *blushes* Oh my gosh, you have to stop! Here’s the key to how I do it ... I wake up at 5:30am and read for about 30 minutes. Then I workout and start my day. I read in line at the grocery stores. I read on my breaks at work.

Max: Oh my gosh - you’re such a nerd and I love that! Okay, nerd, what is your favorite thing to do, besides reading all the things of course?

Megs: This show, of course! And, of course, getting people to do silly things on this show with me. For instance - with as athletic as you are, I hear you can’t jump?

Max: Megs, shhhhh. You told me you weren’t going to bring that up.

Megs: I did no such thing! (Meg says while laughing) I said I might not bring it up.

Max: Uh huh.

(Kris Kross’s “Jump” starts playing in the studio)

Megs: Come on - show me what you’ve got!

(Megs starts “singing” along and jumping along with the song. Max stays seated. Megs finally pulls Max up into a standing position. Max plays along and “jumps” next to Megs - getting no air at all.)

Max: *laughing* Megs - I’m tall! I don’t need to jump to reach things!

Megs: *laughing* That must be nice. I got good at this type of jumping because I had to learn to jump up and gently grab things from the grocery so I didn’t knock everything down.

8. Which of your OCs sleeps the most? The least?

QB sleeps the least because of her species, whereas I think Minerva and Chaos might not sleep at all due to their species, and therefore they are outliers and sould notbe counted.

For the most. Uh. Probably Sarai? Or Leaf. Sarai has those depression naps whereas Leaf just. Goes goes and goes until she suddenly is out of energy, haha.

10. Which of your OCs has all the sass? Who has all the class?

*KRACKS KNUCKLES* ALL OF THEM jk not really. QB is definitely high on that Sass list, along with I think Sakamoto, Minerva, and Chaos? I’m forgetting some but those are def high sassers. THAT SAID, Minerva is very classy about her sass, Sakamoto less so than her mom, and I just forgot who was entirely class fml.

15. Which of your OCs has the most patience? The least? How would they react to someone cutting in front of them in line?Minerva has the highest of patience. The least would be Leaf, in a different sense than Minerva. Minerva would either let the person stay in line, or kindly inform them that the back of the line is that way, would they so kindly enter from there instead of in front of her?

leaf would tap on their shoulder and through some Ums and Uhs she’d be like, “Uh, um. Sorry, excuse me, but I think you just cut in front of me! Can you please not do that? It’s not very nice. :(”

5. Does your OC have a role model or someone they idolize? How would they react to meeting them?I’m not sure tbh, given how wide the Pokeverse is. I don’t think there’s anyone that’s Out of Reach sort of role model, like a pop figure or whatever, but I guess she looks up to her dad a bit.

When your OC doesn’t understand something, do they ask for help right away or do they flounder about trying to figure it out on their own?She tries to work it out on her own if it’s got instructions or it’s something that she isn’t completely lost at. If she’s completely lost though, she’ll ask for help. She prefers to problem solve on her own, though, and is generally pretty good given enough time, but she also knows when it’s worth spending the five minutes to ask someone for help than the hours of work spent alone. (EX: learning a language, she might prefer working on her own, but if it’s a completely new/dead/not in use language to her, she will ask for help defining/translating/learning how to understand/remember a word/phrase/etc.)

18. Are there any issues that your OC sees as pretentious or not worth arguing over? Or are they the one getting in heated debates over trivial things?Uh... I’m not entirely sure how to interpret this question as. She isn’t the type to get into debates over trivial things; if she does seem to be obsessed over something trivial, there’s a good chance she’s really just arguing/upset over something else.

19. Your OC’s favorite ongoing book series/show/etc. just got canceled! How do they react?She’d be upset/aggravated if there seemed to be no reason for it getting cut!! She’d probably write a letter asking them to kindly put it back on the air and depending on how much she loved it, may or may not take part in Show Revival trends on social media.

20. Your OC overhears someone talking smack about one of their friends. Do they come to their defense or get involved in any way?Do Not. They will intercept and defend and you will regret it. lol. Even if you are correct in your assessment of their flaws, do NOT insult her friends around her.

23.Would your OC ever misuse a swivel chair or a chair with wheels?do you mean spin around in a swivel chair because you can bet your butt she would for the longest time. And occasionally still. also i misinterpreted the latter part as a “wheel chair” so I just now got the idea of a wheelie office chair and yes she sometimes still does have enough of a child in her heart to do chair races. [maybe with or against her husband shhhh]

24. Has your OC ever tried to do something with good intentions but it all went awry?UHHHH YES. Moreover in multiverse than Pokeverse [I don’t have too many plots done in a Pokeverse-centered than in a crossover/multiverse]

25. Has your OC ever ignored a problem hoping that it would go away on its own? If so, what was it & did it work?Probably; can’t think of it right now [I mean this is a decade-plus old character]. She probably did this more when she was younger (like 16) but now she’s just like. Yeah okay I’ll face this shit head on I just don’t have the time/energy to spend ignoring and dreading it. And will advise people to do the same when they’re trying to avoid a problem [moreso if they’re young/teenagers]

28. Even if your OC doesn’t play video games, what do you think their favorite game/series would be?She does play videya gaems!!! or used to, I can’t imagine she has much time now as a mom and as a part-time child instructor/daycare worker. Nowadays anything simple in controls and plot (like Mario or Donkey Kong games) and puzzle/mobile games are more her comfort, but she would be more of an JRPGer growing up.

29. If your OC was going to be in an animated movie or show, who would you want to be their voice actor?I have no clue man. I think there’s someone in FE Heroes who has a voice that I like that might be a good fit for Mel, but I can’t recall for the life of me who it was and I’m too damn lazy to look.

11, Is your OC a sore loser or a graceful one? When they do win, do they gloat or are they humble about it?ohohohohoho she is a sore loser and a sore winner. she will RUB IT IN YOUR FACE if she wins and make you feel like shit for ever dare trying to challenge her (though if you’re more like a pawn to her, she won’t recognize a win against you or make only a passing comment, BUT THAT ALONE WILL BE ENOUGH TO SHATTER YOUR CONFIDENCE, SHOULD YOU LIVE TO HEAR IT)

For losing, she will vow to destroy everything you love should you spare her life. Do not spare her life I swear to you. She is used to a kill or be killed life/mentality. And this frustration is doubly so if it’s someone she actually has a “positive’ relationship with and they win against her. [most likely, a huge “FUCK YOU” is directed in your direction should she lose against you in a battle.]

anything not war/battle/fight related, it depends on how much she prides herself on having skill for the challenge. The less invested she is, the less she cares if she wins or loses.

16, How does your OC feel about their mortality? If they’re immortal, do they see this as a curse or a blessing? She is very much aware of her mortality, but she views immortality to be a curse. This may or may not be a cultural thing from her homeworld, or maybe a cultural divide even, but for her, personally, she would find it boring if she could come out of any scrape, no matter how painful, with a life yet to still live. It would be incredibly dull for her, because what’s the point in winning if you will live to see everything won at some point?

26 Your OC comes across an abstract painting! Do they try to decipher a deeper meaning from it or do they just see some blobs and lines?She probably just sees blobs and lines lol. Art like that is very rare in appreciation from her Society/world.

27. If your OC was a Pokemon trainer, what pokemon would they have in their party? Would they prefer battling or contests?She would be a mercenary for the various organizations, she would fucking have spider and dark-type pokemon, anything seemingly vicious and intimidating, and definitely prefer battling. She’d be that sort of cut-throat trainer that works Pokemon too hard.

28. Even if your OC doesn’t play video games, what do you think their favorite game/series would be?She doesn’t play them except when Kid Purge makes her Player 2, but she’d probably be into Puzzle games for passing the time. Tetris and Portal, anything problem-solving. [Tetris would be about the only matching puzzle game she’d be relatively interested in].

If your OC was going to be in an animated movie or show, who would you want to be their voice actor?I NEVER KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION but i swear i heard the perfect voice actress for her once before and I forgot who. I think maybe Yoshiko/Yohane’s JP actress could get her right? [then again it’s been awhile since I’ve heard Yohane’s voice.]

30. Your OC spends an hour looking for something only to realize it was in their hand the entire time. What’s their response?

She is very pissed and blames magic anons or some other mischievous magic for making her absentminded enough for that to be a thing.
