I need all classic monsters to be made into Lisa Frankenstein style of movie. Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Wolfman, Invisableman. Hell even Jekyll & Hyde.
I need 70s/80s/90s. Campy. Unhinged girlies who are also monster fuckers.

Something that really bothers me with Clawdeen redesigns, second to the racist implications of making the black character overly animalistic, is like, I get wanting to go further with the design, but Clawdeens Monster inspiration while listed as generic “werewolf”, her actual monster parent is very clearly “The Wolfman”.
All the G1 ghouls monster parents are “Legendary Monsters” ie the Univeral Monsters, save for Ghoulia who is the daughter of Zombies since there isn’t a specific zombie character. Frankie to Frankenstein, Cleo to The Mummy, Draculaura to Dracula. Despite their parent monster being listed differently, Lagoonas parent is The Creature, and Clawdeens is The Wolfman.
Tumblr media
(The proof of Lagoona Blue to The Creature from the Black Lagoon. The highlight is not mine, I grabbed this screenshot off Reddit to keep on hand)
So Clawdeen is the daughter of The Wolfman, a type of werewolf that’s more humanoid with minor wolf features. This is why the werewolves don’t have tails in Monster High, why they aren’t beastial or overly wolf-ish, they’re based on wolfman type werewolves
Tumblr media
So that’s why they don’t have tails, paws, or wolf anatomy. The addition of the noses in G3 actually bring them closer to their inspiration.
So like yeah anyone can draw whatever they want, I just feel like the humanoid wolfman style werewolf is underutilized when redesigning or interpreting Clawdeen so I just wanted to bring this up.

My review of Asylum's Monster Mash: How Asylum managed to do what Univeral Studios Dark Universe could not
Tumblr media
Last night I watched the new Asylum mockbuster, Monster Mash. What is Asylum? And What is a Mockbuster? A Mockbuster is a low budget knock-off movie of a film that is either already a blcokbuster hit or anticipated to be a hit. When Pacific Rim came out Asylum released a Mockbuster called Atlantic Rim. When Dracula 2000 came out, Dracula 3000 aired on The Scifi Channel. When Morbius came out, Asylum made Dracula: The Original Living Vampire. Sometimes the connection to the blockbuster they were "inspired by" is very slim. Asylum was founded twenty-five-years-ago to make mockbusters of high budget, blockbuster, and mainstream scifi and horror films. A lot of Asylum's creations have been released on Syfy (Formerly the Scifi Channel) as Syfy original movies. Most Asylum movies are either made-for-TV or direct to DVD / Blu Ray / Streaming. One season of the Netflix incarnation of Mystery Science Theatre were all Asylum mockbusters. This year there was a highly anticipated vampire movie called Abigail. The plot was about the daughter of a crime boss (heavily implied to be Dracula all along). The daughter gets kidnapped and it turns out her kidnappers are actually her intended victims. So Asylum released their own Mockbuster called Monster Mash and managed to release it two weeks before Abigail came out.
And what a treat this Monster Mash was! It was so delightfully corny! So wonderfully bad. I actually loved it. This was a so-bad-it's-good movie. There are other films called Monster Mash, including a semi-Juke Box musical. This is the only one from 2024. I think I liked Asylum's Monster Mash more than the 2012 Dario Argento's Dracula, which until now, was my favorite campy, bad Dracula movie. My nickname for Dario Argento's Dracula is Mantis Drac because Dracula transforms into a giant female preying Mantis at one point with very low quality CG effects. In Monster Mash, Dracula's daughter is kidnapped by Boris (A rather simple minded but sweet hearted Frankenstein monster) serving the evil Dr. Frankenstein, who wants to use Dracula's daughter as bait to lure out Dracula. Dr. Frankenstein is dying and wants to transfer his consciousness to a new monster, an utterly indestructible monster- supposedly. Dr. Frankenstein wants to use the parts of all the classic monsters including blood from Dracula, skin from The invisible Man, the heart of Rameses The Mummy, and the limbs of an immortal werewolf. Werewolves in traditional folklore, and the original Universal monster movies actually were immortal except when it came to silver.
The movie has minimum gore and suspense (except perhaps where Dracula almost kills his daughter's slave girl). It's tame enough where I think it could work for a child's first introduction to the classic monsters in a horror setting. (You know, outside of cartoons like Hotel Transylvania). I liked it a lot. For an Asylum film there was limited low-quality CG except once Dr. Frankenstein's creation came to life. That's when Asylum brought it its trademark low quality SFX.
The movie was not just a mockbuster of Abigail. It also felt like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen but with the classic monsters. There were aspects that reminded me of House of Frankenstein. Dracula's daughter even had wanted a cure for her vampiric condition, like in the Universal monster movie, Dracula's daughter. There are a lot of nice, subtle, homages to classic monster movies. You realize pretty fast that the classic monsters are the heroes of the story (even though Dracula does occasionally snack on a hapless damsel). And I found myself delighted through the corny cheese. THIS is what Universal studios should have give us with their promised Dark Universe. THIS was a classic monsters version of Avengers and with the campy cheese of an asylum mockbuster it was actually fun. It was charming. I usually have difficulty sitting through an Asylum mockbister, let alone want to watch it again. This one I would happily watch again. It was fun. It was cheesy, good, fun. I liked it. I liked it a lot. Honestly, the actor who played Dracula was so much fun in this, Asylum doesn't deserve him. He deserves to be in something better but man, he made the movie. It was the sort of corny movie you might imagine Peter Vincent from the 1985 Fright Night starring in. Much like a classic Hammer Horror movie you can't quite tell what country it's set in or even what time period. There's almost a fairytale-like quality to it. An agelessness that is nostalgic and also refreshing.
This is, hands down, my favorite Asylum Mockbuster. Honestly, I loved it. If I had kids I'd have probably used it as their first horror film exposure to the classic movie monsters, not too scary, yet also well paced and the characters are likable. It was cheesy, corny, fun. I want to see more monster movies like this. THIS is the sort of film Universal Studios Dark Universe should have produced for us. Somehow Asylum managed to give us what Universal should have. It's rare that I say something like this but Universal Studios take note. The low budget mockbuster did what you wanted to but could not. I liked this so much I want Asylum to make a whole franchise out of it or even a TV series. I'd watch the Hell out of Dracula and his team of monsters trying to be the heroes. This was some damn good brain candy. My harshest complaints are that I prefer articulate and intelligent Frankenstein monsters like in Mary Shelley's novel but as this creature was named Boris he's obviously a homage to the zeitgeist Universal Studios tropey idea of the Frankenstein Monster. Also there's an odd moment where Dracula's daughter (named Elisabeta as a nod to the Bram Stoker's Dracula movie) comments about how she can read minds (with the aid of psychometry) but Dracula cannot read minds. I find this particularly odd since psychic abilities are some of his more common powers, even in films where they forget his ability to turn into Bat, wolf, and mist. Other than these petty details I loved this movie. It was very bad but very fun, a deliciously cheesy monster movie.

God there really was something to watching steven univere when it was first airing, not knowing anything about the diamonds, or really that the gems were aliens, or all of stevens abilities, and seeing another gem, a real person other than the main three and in one fell swoop having the bombs dropped on us that not only were there other gems still alive from before gem society collapsed, as some people had already suspected the monsters they fought were gems. Getting that creeping feeling that suddenly the team we'd been rooting for might have had some real reason for their isolation now knowing they aren't the last of all gems, but not knowing enough about this new gem Lapis to know where her anger was coming from. Still knowing next to nothing about Rose Quartz and parsing out what had happened with just tiny snippets of stories. Then suddenly Pearl almost kidnaps Steven and the other shoe drops

Let’s talk about life in New Rome
To start off, how many people actually live in the town?
In Son of Neptune, the number of people living in New Rome is said to be about three hundred. Now if we add the two hundred in Camp Jupiter, that leaves approximately 500 demigods. I doubt monsters, nymphs, and satyrs are included in that number, so we could probably round that out to 800 or so.
[The number is significantly lessby the end of Tyrant’s Tomb. Many veterans are said to have died. The legion has lost many demigods. ]
With this in mind, we have to assume that New Rome University is very small, likely between 20-50 students. We know from Percy they offer a four-year course, so that means about a dozen students (or less) are admitted to the college every year.
As far as I can tell, all students get into the university on a scholarship and there is no tuition. This is partly because Hazel seems very casual about admissions into the college and because of Percy’s comments in The Hidden Oracle.
“I’ve been guaranteed admission with a full scholarship to New Rome University, but they’re still requiring me to pass all my high school courses and score well on the SAT. Can you believe that? Not to mention I have to pass the DSTOMP.”
From this comment, I suspect Percy has given privileges equivalent of a legionaire who’s finished their ten-years of service. Basically like "you saved the world so that counts".
It’s unknown if they offer any post-graduate degrees, or if students go to Berkeley after that. I suspect with the close ties between the universities, as mentioned by Annabeth, the latter is more likely. However, demigod post-grad students probably do tutor classes at NRU like at other universities.
Looking at actual real-world universities. It’s more than likely NRU offers a liberal arts degree (Bachelor of Arts). One that is able to be modified for the individual student. This is further proven by the fact there is a music and poetry analysis section in the DSTOMP exam.
Percy mentions some classes for freshmen: English, math and history. My understanding is that’s pretty normal at US colleges (even though it seems redundant). So it really doesn’t give us much information.
It’d say there’s a strong chance all these classes are in Latin (except for the English class, duh) – as we see evidence that Latin is the primary language of New Rome. English would be being just another language in New Rome (unlike Camp Jupiter), as all the signage is in Latin. Also, according to Apollo a dozen languages can be heard while walking through the forum.
So with the assumption that NRU offers an art degree, we know that some of Annabeth’s architecture classes can be studied at the university. But she probably couldn’t graduate with a proper Architecture degree just through NRU – which is why she dual-enrolls into Bekerley.
Considering Roman culture, it’s not surprising their arts course would have architectural leanings. These are the majors/minors/classes I’d say are likely to be offered: Greco-Roman Mythology, Philosophy, Political Science, Law, Mathematics / Engineering / Architecture, Ancient History / Art History (focus on Rome).
Obviously, Percy mentioned possibly studying marine biology or aquaculture. I think it’s important to note that he’s not decided this. It’s possible he hasn’t realised these aren’t options at NRU. But I think he’s smarter than that. So my theory is that he’s planning to transfer at some point but wants to study alongside Annabeth and stay in the safe-haven of New Rome for a while (these seem to be much higher priorities for him!).
The univerity has a big library, a belltower, and very boring dorms (which I think is just tragic because everything else in New Rome is super fancy, why are the dorms boring? Ten years kids live in barracks, they deserve nice dorms...)
Due to the limited number of people at NRU or in town, I suspect much of the university is maintained by the students themselves. As veterans of the legion, they would be perfectly capable of organising much of the operations of the university. Furthermore, I think post-grads might come to the university to teach the occasional class as a guest lecturer. This all allows for the university to offer a wide range of subjects without too many members of staff.
As for getting into NRU, it seems to be pretty damn difficult. Even if you’ve been approved for entry, you still have to score high on the SATs and pass the DSTOMP. Percy mentions that he’s failed to get a high enough SAT score twice, presumably passing on his third try.
So that’s the university, next I'm going to talk about New Rome’s daily life and culture.
One thing that’s very obvious is that New Rome is flush with cash. The entire town is a mini-haven: gold, and marble everywhere. Pristine gardens. You name it – they have it. This makes sense since demigods are often very talented and when you have multiple generations of demigods living in the town, bringing in wealth…
The good news is that the Romans seem to have kept the tradition of the wealthy funding public works: festivals, civil and religious constructions, etc. Examples of this is the colosseum and racing track. This tradition is likely why NRU is able to exist at all. As the wealthy families can spare the extra cash to fund the place – especially with all the students on scholarships.
As far as I can tell, New Rome has very limited technology. According to Hazel this is because demigods tend to make technology go haywire. There are exceptions to this: Reyna, for example, owns a tablet. And we see the legion hire a fleet of SUVs to cross the country. However, daily-life seems to avoid technology. When celebration are on, the Romans decorate their town with multicoloured lanterns (potentially magic-based). Furthermore, there are no cars in the town – only chariots and wagons.
The locals of New Rome eat a mixture of old and new foods. Focaccia bread is mentioned, which is originally a Roman bread that''s still popular in modern times.
They have a thriving coffee culture! With the number of cafes mentioned, I have to assume coffee is very important to them. And it seems to align more closely with Italian coffee-culture rather than the American one.
One thing that is never mentioned is any kind of policing in New Rome. It’s idyllic nature invites the reader to assume there is simply not need – but we know that nepotism and corruption are present in Camp Jupiter. So why not New Rome as well? More than likely, what’s going on is that New Rome uses the same method of policing as Ancient Rome. That being a patron-client relationship (called a “sponsorship” in the books). Basically, wealthy and powerful families act as protection for those who serve them fidelity. So if you mess with a shop that’s own by “Marcus”, Marcus can go to his sponsors, the Lawrences, to get justice.
Anyway, I don’t have any like crazy conclusions or wild theories. Just wanted to put all this stuff into one place.

whats the deal with your star vs ocs?
Thanks for asking! Here's the ones I have for my Disgrace Au:
Juno Sagina: The former wife of Jester Cross and mother of Festivia. Formerly a Solarian Warrior, she resented her oath to Solaria and the negative effects her powers were having on her mind. She denounced her kingdom completely when she fell in love with Solaria's killer, a Septarian named Jester Cross, and helped him escape his containment. They fled Mewni together, and though she was already pregnant with Festivia when they left, she named Jester the father once they were married. Unfortunately, Juno would eventually be blackmailed by the Magic High Commission into giving Festivia to them, and out of grief she would flee to the Realm of Magic and disappear for ages.
Marza Butterfly: The innovative necromancer daughter of Star and Marco. Born in an alternate timeline where Moon succeeded in usurping Eclipsa and ruled Mewni with an iron fist. Moon's strict leadership sparked a chain of events that led to Marco's death and an angry, heartbroken Star fleeing Mewni. This led Marza to despise her grandmother and make it her life's goal to usurp her.
Corona Cross: The quiet but determined daughter of Star and Marco. Born in the main timeline, in a future where more portals are open than ever before and magic is cast through weak but effective charms, Corona seeks to reform the High Commission for the purpose of overseeing law and order throughout the univere instead this time instead of the power of magic.
Kefka Disastervayne: The spunky cybernetic enhancer and biochemist aunt of Rasticore. She and her twin brother had to scrounge for scraps when they were children, leading to her coming up with creative and innovative ways to get money and food. Among these things were whistles which mimicked animal calls, one of which was even made solely to instill fear in any Mewman. When she grew up, she started inventing cybernetic enhancements and physical implants for her fellow Septarians. She eventually took in her hybrid nephew when he was disowned by both his father and his Mewman mother.
Florence Lyndwyrm: The cutthroat Septarian manager of Crossover Corp. When Jester Cross built up his business of creating bootlegged dimensional scissors for Monsters, he hired Lyndwyrm for her seriousness and determination, but also for her vicious, no-nonsense attitude towards work and life. She's planning to stab him in the back and take the corporation for herself, but he knows and is prepared. But she knows he knows.
Howlite, Gossamer, Neighla, Powehi, and Ründeth: The Charmed Ones. Just underneath Glossaryck, they're the closest things to gods in this universe. In order of names, they oversee familial bonds, magic and charms, inter-dimensional travel, space-time, and life.

It’s the 20s-50s
Universal Monsters terrify audiences and become important in pop-culture.
Horror icons like Vincent Price, Lon Chaney, Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi have their start in the horror genre at Univeral, but they get typcast (for better or worse)
The code prevents these scares
Universal Monsters lean more into the comedy, do crossovers and have Abbott and Costello for films.
The cultural zeitgeist moves on
It’s the 70s-80s
Slashers terrify audiences and become important in pop-culture.
A lot of stars even got their start in horror like Jamie Lee Curtis, George Clooney and Kevin Bacon. They’re not typcast this time. Slasher actors are changed a lot though (I remember with Leatherface it was a money thing for TCM 2)
The censorship prevents these scares and companies are ashamed of these low budget movies
Slashers lean more into the comedy, doing crossovers and even invite celebrities. Friday the 13th part 6 and Scream adds more genre aware humor
The cultural zeitgeist moves on
No idea what the 2020s will bring, but we’ve been here before, you know.
Edit: Important note. I have nothing against horror’s silly periods. I love them for real. Also every horror movie before and after these decades are obviously worth looking into I just had famous pop-culture antagonists in minds when typing this
