you know what. something ELSE about the last herald-mage adaptation that may or may not ever happen is that I wouldn't mind if they didn't actually adapt the books word for word. Not in a "they follow the loose story of the books but change things around for x reason" way, but in a "we're exploring different avenues or facets of Vanyels' life we never got to see in the books" way. like if they made a series filling in the gaps between the three books and covering those huge time skips that expands on the world, and gives us developments on the part of Vanyel's character that we never got to see, I think I would be satisfied with that as long as it's well done. Also, big opportunity for world development when possible, since places outside Valdemar like Karse didn't really get any genuine attention until much later on in the overarching Valdemar series.
There's so much of his story that we never saw because of the time skips! And I feel like there's plenty of room to do something original that way (because of course they're going to want to do something original) while ALSO staying more or less true to the source material without eviscerating it, especially since there's so much in the original books that I think will be very hard to adapt well or even respectfully. I feel like this is something that can totally be done without alienating people who aren't familiar with the original books, while also creating something new and interesting that can stand on its own.

‘Valdemar Universe’ Fantasy Book Series In The Works For TV From Kit Williamson, Brittany Cavallaro & Radar Pictures
EXCLUSIVE: Jumanji producer Radar Pictures is adapting Mercedes Lackey’s Valdemar literary universe for television.
The company, founded by Interscope Records co-founder Ted Field, who is an exec producer on Amazon’s The Wheel of Time series, has acquired the small screen rights to the books, which number 58 over more than 30 years.
Kit Williamson, who created Netflix’s LGBTQ comedy series EastSiders, is adapting with author Brittany Cavallaro, who wrote the Charlotte Holmes series of books. The pair bonded over the books in school and will now write and produce the TV adaptation.

It’s always annoyed me the covers don’t show Vanyel with his white hair so here’s a quick edit of that.

-Try not to just choose your favorite genre!
-This is set in the present day (so all genres would roughly reflect present trends)
-I only included genres I could genuinely imagine Stef performing, but by all means tell me why he would obviously be in a heavy metal band in the replies
I’m having trouble deciding what genre Stef performs in my nuclear weapons AU. Obviously he’s classically trained no matter what he chooses to perform, but I can’t decide if he would prioritize making gobs of money or if he would prioritize making authentic music or if he would prioritize showing off his technical skills yknow

I was talking to a friend about my DnD character, who is based on Vanyel, and it was pointed out that I have a type. I couldn’t rest until I had inflicted this on everyone else.
(I’ve probably forgotten about others, these are just the ones that immediately sprang to mind, feel free to point out any obvious ones that I’ve forgotten XD)

i really wish i could draw the way i want to draw because my urge to make the connection between vanyel and death ("And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat upon him was Death, and Hell followed with him.") is insane

These bleeding effect prompts are so fun to write. Thanks @sulfies for suggesting it. This is another Heralds of Valdemar X Assassin's Creed. This time instead of Desmond having a bleed, he is on the other end of one.
Desmond Miles had to wonder how he could have been so lucky lately. He found his way back to Valdemar, had employment as a mercenary, had family, a daughter and friends. He also had a strange connection with the Companions of this world. He could hear them but he could only verbally respond to them. He was happy. Salvais and Malik served him willingly and happily as Hertasi. Though poor Malik his vocal cords weren't healed properly in his reincarnation into a Hertasi so he was mute. Add in him being with only one arm and well angst. He was often on Desmond's shoulders for a height advantage. Salvais, as he had been as Leonardo Da Vinci, was very talkative. Then there was Altaïr, turned into a gryphon, a white one with ten of his feathers tipped red. A call back to the hunt for the nine Templars and Al-Muailm.
Right now though he'd been out riding with his daughter Elspeth. She was eighteen soon to turn nineteen. But she had been through some things. Vedic had been back and had found out that Elspeth was his daughter and had her kidnapped. In doing so Desmond found his protective papa bear instincts kicking in hard. Whether it was instincts or leftover bleeds he wasn't sure but now he had to watch, Elspeth had been forced into the Animus too like he had. They had found in a bleed, but it passed quickly.
This bleed could not have been anymore I'll timed. He heard the fireball before he felt it and dodged with his horse. He turned as Gwena, Elspeth’s companion warned him
“She's bleeding.”
“And likely Vanyel.”
“Yes.”
Desmond frowned not knowing what to do. That fireball was aimed at him likely because he may have looked like a Karsite or worse Maar himself. Remembering what Edward did for him he smiled kindly and asked
“To whom do I have the pleasure and honor of speaking to?”
“The herald mage called Vanyel.”
“It is truly an honor then, master Askhervon. I am called Desmond Kenway.”
There was a pause, before Elspeth shook her head, almost falling from Gwena but Desmond was there to catch her.
“It's ok kiddo I am here.”

There is almost no way that anyone with an ounce of monarchical political knowledge would believe that Jisa and Treven's marriage came about the way it actually did. The theories must range wildly:
Jisa's mother Shavri used her position, both as King's Own and King Randale's lover, to ensure that her daughter would become Queen Consort if not Queen Regnant. (Very, very possible given the influence of both those positions and even likely, except for the fact that it couldn't be more wrong, Shavri was doing her best to keep Jisa off the throne)
1a. Debate ranges over how much Randale was involved, whether as a co-conspirator to being completely manipulated or too sick to do anything.
2. Randale used his position as King to make Treven marry his daughter so that Jisa would quasi-inherit even if she wasn't Chosen.
3. That one historian who is incredibly right about Vanyel being Jisa's biological father (probably not recorded in the Chronicles) and incredibly wrong about all the conclusions drawn from that. (No, Vanyel, arguably the most powerful person in the kingdom, did nothing to make Jisa queen.)
4. Treven had to marry Jisa to satisfy some court faction that supported her/bloodline traditionalists willing to overlook the out-of-wedlock part if it meant keeping Randale's direct bloodline (joke's on them).
5. Jisa seduced Treven to keep a position in the royal family.
6. What actually happened (which is probably in the Chronicles): two teens in love eloped with complete disregard for politics, they just happened to be the King's daughter and his distant Chosen heir.
