Controversial opinion! Adam, the Them, Warlock, and Greasy Johnson all play Minecraft after the not-pocalypse

The Them and Adam meet Warlock and Johnson on a Minecraft server and they become friends, and are stoked to realize they're all the EXACT same age. They were all each other's first friends, after all. Even if they were only minutes old in a hospital of satanic nuns!

The Johnson gang and the Them have a sort of truce in their Minecraft world. But Only There, because one of the Johnson gang accidentally attacked Adam's Minecraft wolf (also aptly named dog), which led to the real Dog going and nipping the hell out of his ankles.

Wensleydale is a master of redstone. Pepper explores all of the temples and ruins, absolutely eager to kill the Ender Dragon and Wither. Brian is the wild farmer with an Absurd horde of items that mobs have dropped that ... no one really knows where he keeps them. Adam leads everyone on adventures, as you do. Warlock keeps attacking all of the villagers and stealing their things, inadvertently becoming king of the pillagers. No one knows how.

Johnson ... well, he makes his Minecraft home in the ocean with all of the tropical fish.

Not exactly Eldritch Good Omens:

Adam gives up being the Antichrist at the same time that he doesn’t.

He renounces Satan’s role as his father, he renounces his destiny. In doing this, he refuses to destroy the world and rejects the mantles of Prince of this World, Demon of the Bottomless Pit, etc... In that sense he truly does give up being the Antichrist.

Here’s the thing. You know how they say family isn’t always blood, it’s who you love and who loves you? That’s right, it isn’t wrong, but well, that family didn’t give you your genetics. There’s always something you get from the family who shares your blood, even if they aren’t the family you love.

Scientists gave up on nature vs nurture a while ago. It’s always nature and nurture. As human as Adam is, there’s still a little bit of him that’s the son of Satan.

In the time when reality answered him without question, without pause, perhaps he could have completely rewritten that chaos and almost-divinity out of himself. But he didn’t. And in that sense, Adam is still the antichrist. And while he can no longer rewrite the world, reality is still willing to shift a few things around for him.

Thing is, Adam’s power is chaotic. It’s less wild then it was in the days leading up to Armagedon’t, but learning to work with it is still a lot more making sure it doesn’t react to his whims and wishes in some way than doing things deliberately.

In some ways, he’s like an angel or a demon. Meaning that reality often fits with his expectations. Especially those that last for a long time. Like beliefs. And Adam believes in his friends. His friends, who never forgot that day.

In other worlds, belief can make gods. In a monotheistic world, it can’t quite make humans divine. But that doesn’t make it ineffective.

Pepper believes in peace. She acknowledges the peace some find in retreating from the world, acknowledges it as a valid path. But it isn’t for her. She becomes an activist, for the rights of everyone. She becomes a force to be reckoned with on the global stage. Sometimes she negotiates truces. Sometimes, she drives new laws, and makes sure they are enforced.

Wensleydale believes in food, and healthy meals. He finds himself in law, or rather some sort of grey area where he can find all the information people don’t want revealed and direct it to those who can sue the shit out of these people who are withholding money from those beneath them. He enforces workers rights, helps get food and medicine to starving countries, and negotiates for truces and alliances even more than Pepper, who focuses more on internal things than external.

Brian believes in a clean world. He’s much quieter than the other two (and that includes Wensleydale, who’s real name is remembered only by his hometown.) He works to plant trees, encourages sustainable farming, helps clean rivers, and focuses on making renewable energy a reality. Really he’s quieter only in that he’s less of a household name than the other two, and as loud as they can be quieter is very different from quiet.

Adam doesn’t even know he’s giving his friends power. If he was doing it deliberately, it would have been quick and sudden, and they would have noticed. But it’s belief. That makes in slow and subtle. And what they become has as much to do with them as it does with him.

They can all keep track of many more things than any human should be able to, they need to since they all began to juggle ten twenty thirty things all at once. They remember so much more, can manage despite putting their fingers in so many pies. Their minds move quicker and they cannot be successfully lied to. They read people - they don’t read the same things but they read equally well. When they want to be heard, they are listened to. And when they speak, no one interrupts, though this last may be more due to their authority. Most of the changes are mental, because that’s what they need. But they make enemies.  So they do heal faster than most people, but it’s rarely noticed due to their many miraculous escapes.

Not deities. But patrons perhaps, or something like a saint. Patrons of peace and activists, of the hungry and the wronged, of the go-getters and the nature-lovers. Inspirations and givers of hope.

The changes are so slow and subtle that by the time they notice it may be too late.
