hi my love! do you have any writing tips? and words of encouragement when fics flop :(

hi darling <3 i feel like i always suck at giving writing tips but i'll try my very best for you ok. i hope some of these help! also very honored you'd even ask me 🤎

first and foremost: don't compare your writing to anyone else. everyone writes different, everyone has a certain style, a niche. if you're worried you don't have a 'style' don't, because you do. everyone does. it's not something you can make yourself have or take from others, it comes naturally with how your brain works and how it curates words and prose and scenes. that's why no book, no writing, is ever the same even if it's the same source material. it's a beautiful thing so don't stress about trying to make your writing sound or 'read' like other writers. it'll only ruin the enjoyment of how you write!

if you want to write more detailed just remember that not everything in a scene needs to be put down. the more you give the reader room to fill in the blanks and set the scene themselves the better experience for them (at least that's the case for my brain, others may feel different, but doing it this way makes me feel like i'm not adding too much detail or being repetitive). but visualizing, setting the scene for yourself through music or daydreaming is another great tip to write more detailed.

when it comes to smut i am a huge stan of you don't have to say the anatomically correct part they're using (like the p words or c word), and describing what it feels like to have that part touched, grazed, etc is really great. i struggle with fear of repeating myself so i try to find creative ways to describe body parts without actually calling them like flowery/nouns/different synonyms. i hope that made sense lmao.

don't worry about edits or making everything flow completely well in the first take. i highly rec everyone editing their own work and reading it back to themselves, yes it's tiring but it helps you find flow mistakes, add more detail, take something out that you thought fit in the moment but doesn't really. that's why i get everything out the first get go in a kind of fever dream manner and then when i go back to edit it then i buff out everything, add more, take away something, add more details that will make a scene pop off more.

now for the encouragement when it comes to flops: it's going to happen. there's no secret to making something do amazing or something failing. there really isn't and someone who says there is has just had a few lucky posts. because having a big following means nothing, writing a long fic, a short one, only using small font, being super aesthetic, really means nothing. i've seen writers with the most amazing aesthetic and beautiful prose with 100 followers write something and get 2k notes and then get 90 notes on their next post. same with someone who doesn't have a big aesthetic but a big following and writes short fics get 100 notes on their last ten posts but then that eleventh post randomly gets 1k. like it's really just up in the air on here if something is going to do good or not, unfortunately. so that's why i don't let it get to me when something i post gets 100 notes or 1k because i'm happy with both, less, or more. i don't expect anything anymore because that only leads to disappointment and i'm here to write and to have fun.

that's not to say i don't rec curating your own little community on here. make friends, block ppl with bad vibes, join discords of supportive friends. talk to writers who encourage and understand your feelings and discourse and who keep you going, give you inspo, etc etc. if only my friends ever rbed and read my stuff and there was only 10 of them? i'd say hell yeah and that'd encourage me to write more. having a good space of friends and community is amazing and can do a lot to fight off the writer scaries and the feelings of obsessing over numbers and success.

now this is just something i do but it always works for me; i post something and then force myself not to look at it for a day or two. i post it and move on to the next thing i want to work on. i do not dwell on how it's doing. i may q up some rbs for it but i don't even look at the notes when i do that. i deliberately never look at it because yes while it matters in the sense that we love encouragement, we love seeing people love something we spent hours on, we wrote this for ourselves but hello we want that validation too and that's okay, but like i said above and i'm going to say again notes mean nothing in regards to talent. these notes are not simon cowell judging you on your performance. so when i finally do go back to rb comments and reply to things, or if i just want to look at how it did, and the number is low i'm just like ok shrug at least those 20 people enjoyed it and that's better than 0. and if no one commented or rbed yeah that sucks and is disheartening but i can either dwell and be sad on it or i can continue to do what i love and write more. why let the annoying little brats on here who refuse to show their love on a work they read get you down? because there's a dozen of them out there and they're not going away. and you may have made someone's day for this little fic even if they didn't say something about it. it does suck that content creators on here don't get the rbs and comments and credit they deserve, and unfortunately if you want to keep doing what you love you gotta work around it and remind yourself why you're creating, continue to feel that joy. it's hard, believe me. but don't let your creativity be repressed because of it, because you'd be doing a disservice to yourself!

i'll say it again though: a high note count / following doesn't mean the fic is good or bad, neither does low notes / no following. no one's talent is ever in question here. we are here to write, have fun, fill the void of the rl scaries.

Hello! Ok. I’ve read your ask a few times and I’m not completely sure how you feel about me because tone on the internet is hard. It seems like you like visiting the post but then you say that I suck so I’m not 100% sure 😅

So I am just gonna plow ahead and tell you how I feel about those posts. For those reading who weren’t following then or don’t remember, almost six months ago I posted this:

I think waaaaaaaay too deeply about fiction, as anyone who follows me knows. I also think a whole lot about psychology and human behavior. That’s been more for my own survival.

So I thought hey this will be fun. I’ll look at the characters. I’ll find a common thread of emotional impact each of these characters can have on people. I’ll find a common point of emotional connection between them all. Then I’ll free flow.

And on one hand it was fun. I really do like doing it.

But on the other hand I started getting really really anxious every time I answered one. What if I missed the mark and offended the asker? Or worse? What if I hit too close to home and made them feel too vulnerable?

I know it’s just fictional characters and I was clear that it was for fun and I tried to come from a place of affection and positive uplifting thoughts for each person.

BUT STILL I didn’t know how I was making each person feel and that was freaking me out because what if I was making them feel bad?? (I often worry about the way I make people feel on the internet. I can’t see you guys so I don’t know how I’m making you feel so I get neurotic about it.) and not everyone responded to my answer and so ofc I just worried twice as hard when that happened.

So I have actually a lot of those asks left sitting unanswered in my ask box. It was really popular. People sent me asks who didn’t follow me, so even though people didn’t all rb their posts, it somehow broke containment (people were maybe sharing in dms or discord?) and I got a lot of them. But at some point my worry and anxiety about it stopped me finishing answering them. And now it’s six months later and I don’t know what to do with the posts I still haven’t answered. Would it be weirder to answer them or not answer them?

Anyway. Back to your post.

Everything I answer and put out there is with love even when inebriated and overly honest. And I just went back and reread my answer to you and went yep. That’s still what I see as the connective tissue between those characters. I hope on the balance it was a positive experience for you.

1. Last game you finished

i am like pretty sure it was dark souls. ive been playing a Bunch of stuff on and off for the past 3 or 4 months but dark souls was one that i stuck to and i beat it with my caster character naomi in like early march

ok oh god. okay i SAID i was playing a bunch of games on and off but truthfully i have Started a bunch of games and have not finished them and my heart isn't too set on touching back on them. some im ok with that and others i feel like i should get back to them

Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time (JP) [dead/i should get back to it]

i stopped playing this in like late february and i definitely want to start playing it again. it has been more constructive for me for practicing japanese because it is just a bit less dense than other games like path of radiance. i think i like only finished the first little arc though LOL in the forest w the caterpillar boss

Super Mario Galaxy (JP) [dead/i should get back to it]

i got pretty far here! i think ive 100%ed everything up to the bedroom. there's not much i can say about what ive practiced with this game besides it was a nice refresher/maintainer; there's furigana for the kanji and all the characters speak in unique ways that are still digestible

Dark Souls (again. as a cleric) [dead/its ok i got like more than halfway through so it'll be fun to pick up again whenever i do]

after i beat the game with naomi i like immediately started another file as my cleric madeline. its been really fun with her and ive been enjoying using ultra great swords/lightning magic with her. iiiii got the lordvessel and i saved the cleric in the tomb of the giants, and i made it to the ash lake and the painted world for the first time this playthrough

Sonic Riders (JP) [dead/its ok i unlocked aiai&nights&ulala]

it is very very interesting playing japanese sonic because some of the characters have like very different personalities. sonic is more like, Cool Dependable Upstanding guy who like shouts stuff in english sometimes (ALL RIIGHT/Hey !), where I feel like english sonic is a little bit more of an rascal

amy is like a LOT more "cute". like english amy is like scary and Her Own Girl but jp amy is just like more sweet (for the record i feel like english amy is a lot more engaging and fun (I love lisa ortiz amy))

WAVE is like SO interesting, i feel like english wave is so bitchy and mean (love and respect to her all the same) and jp wave is still Mean but she's so much more cordial and polite, she's kind of like a gentleman about it and still offers respect to the people she speaks to

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic [dead/IM SAD ABOUT IT BUT I CANT DO ANYTHING]

i had been playing it for joey and he was Loving it and i was loving it too because i just love that game, but after i saved bastila the game started like crashing non stop. i did some troubleshooting/research and it turns out discord streaming and kotor just Do Not mix well. we had to give it up and im so sad. i had a demolitions/security dual wielding blade girl named DYNA BLASTER and she failed every single speech skill check

Stardew Valley [alive]

me and joey have been touching on this with our collective farm the past few weeks. its hard because his work and where he lives tires him out so bad, so he just needs to sit back and rest more than he can play games with me, but were in the beginning of the summer right now and things are going well. i am like being a spreadsheet farmer making max profits while he's got his strong variety of crops at his place so we can actually complete the bundles. we didn't realize we had access to the mines until the end of spring though LOL

Valkyria Chronicles [alive]

I will have joey fall asleep to me playing games and after kotor stopped working this is what i picked up. i like this game a lot, a lot of the uh.. the voice acting can annoy me (SOMETIMES i really like it) and how lightheartedly the game depicts war and racism irks me, but i love love love love how the game plays. its fire emblem but you're down On The Field doing the work and its very engaging

oh oh oh omg??????? I wanna replay crash bandicoot 2??!!!! i played it all the time as a kid when we still had our playstation like 1999-2001 and i remember the girl with her tiger and there was like a level with hot air balloons. i have slowly been building more and more motivation to get to it and this is like doin smth. time to add another game to the currently playing list

Liam’s podcast with Steve Bartlett is out and while I still don’t care about that guy I’ll give him this-- he does great at getting out of the way and letting Liam talk. And boy does Liam talk! Liam says A LOT and let’s all just pause to send him some big hugs before we get into right? And then look to the future- Liam’s routine is to say ‘things have been terrible but it’s fine, it’s fine NOW’, always, even when that is absolutely obviously not true, and today is no different but for once I actually believe some of his hopeful bits too which is so great! I hope things really are shifting for him and I can’t wait to hear this new song of his. But there’s a lot that’s hard to hear too, oh Liam. He said that he and Maya have broken up (so yes, presumably why he just moved again such a short time after they moved into their haunted house), talked about his struggles with his alcoholism (and said he’s been sober for a month right now, go babe!), shared the usual distressing stories about his time in the band and what that was like for him (and how it still impacts him), and he talked about his new song and how it feels different for him than his past solo music. Truly though there is SO MUCH more than I can get into here or then you can get from the UA highlights- I HIGHLY recommend actually watching at least parts of the video, also because the attempt to summarize so much erases all the charm and humor, of which there is much. If you don’t think you want to watch Liam’s interviews, it has to be because you aren’t watching Liam’s interviews, they’re delightful! Plus really if you care about 1D and want information about what it was like for any of them, listen to Liam, he’s the one who’s out there talking about it.

About Maya he said, that yes, he is now single, and “I’ve just been not been very good at relationships,” and “I’m a proper perfectionist… at the start of the relationship you put out this complete false character like I might as well go in in costume, I’m like putting out something that is not there... kind of like encompassing someone else’s life with your crap rather than just doing your thing and laying out your store from day one. That’s my biggest problem is that I feel like I don’t lay out my store... and then I’m annoyed when they don’t like what I like,” and “I think my problem is I struggle to be on my own sometimes... I dive in and out of relationships too quickly. I’ve not spent enough time on my own to relearn about myself.”

He laughs about his tendency to ask his manager things during interviews; “My fans think that Steve is doing something to me, they’re like liberty for Liam because he always looks to Steve, but that’s because I like him. It’s not because he’s harming me as a person. There’s like a hashtag Liberty for Liam because they think I’m some like prison child,” and he also said “my manager’s my best friend,” (and he’s said in the past he is a big support for him) and mentioned stuff they’d talked about recently around his therapeutic awakenings.

He talked about therapy being something you have to want to do and be ready to do rather than being pushed into, like getting sober, and says that this time around with his own therapy work he’s really felt that and thrown himself into it and he talked a lot about his relationship to therapy in connection with band days. “I mean one of our old managers went to therapy from being a manager of One Direction. So if you can imagine how that feels like the rest of us definitely need some.”

“We were young,” he said, “What I found was I didn’t know I was the boss until like a few months ago, I still don’t even feel like I am now, like I’m such a child. And everyone I work with now is older than me and wiser than me and I’m like what the hell am I doing here with these people. When we were 17 I thought the security guard was like in charge of me so I was like Can we leave the room? No? Oh ok then,” and “when we were in the band, the best way to secure us was just lock us in our rooms. And of course what’s in the room? Minibar. So at a certain point, I thought Well I’m gonna have a party for one and that just seemed to carry on throughout many years of my life... You know I spoke to somebody about this in child development as a teen, the one thing you need is freedom to make choices. That we could do anything we wanted it seemed from the outside but we were always locked in a room at night and then it would be car, hotel room, stage, sing, locked. So it’s like they pulled the dust cloth off, let us out for a minute, but then it’s back underneath again,” and “the day the band ended I was like thank the lord for that. And I know a lot of people are going to be mad with me for saying that, but I needed it to stop. It would kill me.” Anyway, he said, because it wouldn’t be Liam without an upbeat coda, “I don’t want any of this to get lost in translation. I’m not 100% moaning about my life... it’s had its ups and its downs, but I would rather talk about it and it’s therapeutic for me.”

And what about that exciting new song? Liam said, “We have a really cool song in the pipeline... one of the first ones I’ve actually written myself- with some other people, I didn’t write it by myself, but it’s the first one I’ve really liked. And I think I got so used used carting around other peoples songs and not embedding myself creatively in what I do because I was so scared to find out who I was,” and “I don’t really know how I would tour again. I really want to” [on discord today he said he would be touring next year] “I always said throughout my solo career I’d let my song book speak to me. And I don’t think my song book spoke to me to get off my ass. I only became a solo artist because I had Strip That Down. I wasn’t gonna do it, I was gonna leave it alone. I was like, I survived it once thank you very much- but I’m back in now. Because the song, I knew it was right. It felt right with that song, I hadn’t had that. This year, the song we have I feel really really great about. So I’d rather let the music do the talking than me come out and force it. We don’t need any more useless music in the world, it needs to mean something,” and he mentioned the new song on the discord a lot too, most notably picking out a long comment that thanked him for making the fan feel supported and safe and for “putting your heart in everything you do” and for his support of the LGBTQ community to respond to with, “I think you will really like the new song.”

A few other random bits, he said that he thinks there should be a system to make therapy available to musicians in the industry, “I think I’m definitely gonna get a dog because I need routine,” and “I recently started jujitsu,” yeah you and everyone else huh, so do him and Louis and Oli go to the same gym or ???, and he acknowledged that as an addict he may have just transferred that to working out “but there’s a lot worse things to be addicted to then looking after yourself” hmm but he does seem to say that he’s doing better around body image stuff; he talks about having put on weight during lockdown and seeing himself in the BAFTAS performance- “I saw myself... and I was like ‘oh my god I’ve completely let myself go in this’. And it was fine...I feel so much more secure in myself now.” Oh and that he’s written a comedic movie script “based around AA” and his experiences there, such as how “I had a really weird AA experience the first time that I went. My first experience was with Russell Brand.” LMAO yes! Cannot wait, bring on auteur Liam please! Anyway as if ALL THAT wasn’t enough he’s also dove into the lead up to his NFT release; he said “I'm almost ready to share my NFTs with you guys... Who wants to see them?” and posted a tiny preview that tells us its (their?) title for the first time- Lonely Bug.

Niall and Anne Marie perform on Jimmy Fallon tonight, and the hype is already a go! I guess it’s prerecorded, as we’re already seeing pictures from it; they’re singing to each other with the cute car from the video in the background. Niall signed on to a letter to Boris Johnson asking for changes to music streaming revenue rules and signed by 232 artists (including all the artists Johnson recently named as his favorites, haha). Zayn signed on to a Billboard petition to the US senate calling for gun safety laws. The bar Zayn got into the fight in front of posted “Zayn's a regular at Amsterdam Billiards and he is a true gentleman. On Thursday night he was confronted by an inebriated passer-by outside on the street and was called a homophobic slur. We support Zayn & condemn homophobia in the strongest terms!” And also PS omg again because it just isn’t going away: Harry’s beauty company is called Pleased As, his name is Harry Edward Styles so yes when listed last name first, as legal documents do, it spells SHE but it is not a “feminist abbreviation” (WHAT? even??) nor the name of the business.

💲 COST: Pony bead bracelets, with colors, b&w words, or plain star beads, are $1 each, no taxes, just $1.00 flat. The use of colored letters and iridescent stars are $1.25. As of right now to keep stock up, bracelets consisting of Only star beads aren’t available to order. Charm options are not yet available, but will eventually be added, and prices may range. This is all just based on how much it costs to buy the beads to make these bracelets! 💲

📦 SHIPPING: Each order will end up with a different estimate for shipping costs, based on where you live, and how many bracelets you order. I ship through USPS and I should be able to ship almost anywhere, but the further away you are, the higher shipping will be. I’m shipping out of Kansas. Domestic shipping will probably start at around $3 - $8, international shipping will just have to depend. 🤷‍♀️ AVAILABILITY: I have a full rainbow array of pony beads including b&w, some neons and pastels too, I have a nice color range of star beads including b&w and transparent, and some iridescent star beads as well, and then for letters I have black on white, white on black, color on black and color on white. IMPORTANT TO NOTE;;; My pony beads are all around 6x4mm, and the letter beads are 6x6mm. This is considered somewhat Small for kandi bracelets. This isn’t a choice I made to skimp out, this size is actually more expensive and harder to find than the usual 6x9mm, I just very much prefer this size to work with and wear. It’s only a tad bit more subtle, but it fits most people a lot better and I would Definitely recommend it for people with smaller wrists or who are just starting out with Kandi.

🤔 HOW TO ORDER: So basically, how you choose to tell me the pattern you want is up to you, you can draw it out if you want or just try to explain it with words, or whatever else works. Once you explain what you want, I’ll show you what beads I have that match your request, and you can decide what you want out of those options.

An example could be; “I would like a bracelet with a repeating pattern of red and blue pony beads, with the word PLUR in black on white letters, and two pink stars on each side, just like this!”

To which I might say; “Ok, here I have 2 shades of red and 4 shades of blue, and I have plain pink stars or iridescent pink, which ones would you like me to use?” and then I’d show you a picture of all of these colors for you to decide! Once we have all your bracelets planned out, I’ll ask for a few more details to give you your total price. Then once the payment goes through, I’ll start working! Whenever your bracelets are all complete, I’ll send you pictures of the finished products to make sure you like them (if not I’ll redo at no extra charge). After you give the OK, I’ll ship them out! (You can also ask for some ‘random/surprise me’ bracelets if you aren’t sure of any patterns, of course.)

📿 CHARMS: If you’d like more options, the best solution I’ve been able to think of for now is that if you’d like, you could surf Ebay, Etsy, Etc. till you find some charms you’d want me to use, and then if you’re okay with covering the cost to get them (typically $5 to $15 for a decent lot) and then waiting a bit extra for me to receive them, I would have no problem using those for you! :) Someday I’d really like to stock up on popular charms to have more choices available, but I don’t quite have the funds quite yet. 😷 ALLERGY/SENSITIVE SKIN NOTICE: I seal small parts of my bracelets to reduce the chance of breakage. I use a very tiny drop of Loctite Super Glue Gel on the knot. This glue does not keep the beads from moving freely or lock them into place, it’s used sparingly as a sealant. If you ever receive a bracelet that is locked or sticky, I would fully refund you and offer to send another. You can also absolutely opt out of this, Just add “No glue” somewhere to your order. Just be warned that your bracelet will be less protected from breakage. 😷

❗ DISCLAIMER: Either way, I cannot take responsibility for a bracelet eventually breaking down. Kandi and elastic bracelets in general are a bit prone to snapping, but mostly over time and especially if used in rave settings. I use high quality jewelry elastic from amazon, very high rated and recommended by other Kandi makers, and I knot them 3 times, so mine should last as long as they possibly can. Please make sure your wrist measurements are as accurate as they can be, and please be gentle when taking them on or off, just being careful will help prolong it’s usage by a lot. 🦄 STICKERS: Order 5 bracelets and get one free sticker! Order 10 and get two, so on and so forth in a pattern of 5. The stickers are hand cut by me from large books and sheets, so the edges might look odd but the sticker itself should be unharmed. These are completely random, and based loosely around a scenecore aesthetic. Most are pretty ‘medium’ sized, but they do range quite a bit. 🦄

✍ CONTENT: Kandi, scene and rave culture, is in a general sense, a very upbeat and supportive based environment. I do not want to make bracelets with negative messages on them. (I have some time between exams right now as I type this, but I feel like several explanations are in order about things going on also I do not know how to do read mores on mobile so I will apologize to those on the dash

I know my activity has been spotty still, and I feel like all I will say here will still sound like an excuse. Either way, let’s start off at the top.

First off, obviously I’m in college still with this being my last semester and having a full load, so keeping up on my studies is taking a lot of my time. Also amidst this I am also doing an internship at an accounting firm right now just for the tax season, though I will say that working there despite the hours being more in the middle of the day, feels like paradise compared to the depths of McHell that I worked at before. So I actually have been feeling a lot less stressed regarding work ever since this.

Honestly, sure my schedule has been making it hard for me to sit down and have time for myself, but it still doesn’t explain much of what is also going on. But in general I’ve been struggling to find myself the desire to keep up on my RPs on tumblr, I don’t know 100% why, but I think some of it could be just…lack of feeling connected?

I really feel like the stuff has potential for sure, but I’m thinking the loss and drama involving an RP partner over the entire past year (yeah, that whole thing I had ranted about before hit an..’end’ you could say) had likely been a huge blow to me RP wise. Since a lot of the things involving them were too close to my heart at the time. (Even getting the ok to just write whole drabbles involving their characters never helped, because the lure of RP is being able to see what consequences will happen from what actions you write, IE you don’t have complete control over the story and it is always more of a delight to read someone else’s input over your own.)

Either way, the loss of that and also drama prior to involving a group. It has made me afraid to try to continue things, since the group also had a RP that I got emotionally invested in and it felt like it just got…well…needless to say shit happened and I’m not explaining further. And it feeling like it consistently happens in almost anywhere, and RP starts that I get super invested in and looking forward to, even if it is planned to be a short-shot one, and well…it just gets dropped and never addressed again when it always gets to the one reply that I’m looking forward to the most/when it comes to the point where I am getting invested in it, it then just…stops. It has been making me wonder if I even should try in most areas?

That is part of it, it could also be just feeling more like a chore for the stuff here because I feel like I could get invested into it emotionally, but it never hit that point yet. But I want to find that potential as well.

I don’t know, this is just theory as to part of it. Tho I am bad now at reaching out to people because I get tired of being the one to always reach out first, you get drained of doing that when it feels like you’re the only one putting in any effort to even keep contact with that one partner.

I want to come back, I want to find the unrealized potential, but like..I don’t know how. I have seen that RPs via Discord has been easier for me to keep up and get really into, likely because of the constant communication with the mun too? But that is a solution that I know I won’t be able to keep up for every partner either.

Either way, I’m not sure what to do, giving myself a break has not helped and I know it never will at this point. But I would like to at least know of what to do to best help with this sort of situation and predicament now. Especially since there are so many stories that I have yet to tell (and also wanting to try to drabble backstory stuff but I’m still feeling like lack of the RP drive has been draining that from me too)

Still, if anyone has any advice to give, I will be free to hear it. And sorry for the long wall of text, I just felt the need to get it out)

Ok guys I cannot stress enough that I am drunk, this is long, it has strong language, and it’s a trip. I am putting it almost all under a cut because it is 20 f*ing pages on word.

For reference: this was on a discord chat and I am removing all names and a few other things but there will be absolutely no editing. Guys... I'm trying to stay optimistic but I'm really worried that jroth is gonna make bellarke canon in a really disappointing way. Like for me infidelity is a huge no in ships and I hate that becho has gone on so long that there doesn't seem to be a lot of room left in the canon timeline for a becho breakup/end that doesn't ruin the start of Bellarke for me

Kate will say it better than I will, but don't lose hope! Becho hasn't really been together on screen for very long. It's only been like a few weeks to a month since the beginning of S5. They've stretched it out over two seasons, but in canon not much time has passed. And most of that time had Bellamy either sacrificing almost 300 lives to save Clarke, poisoning his sister to save Clarke, or fucking off into the wilderness with Josephine to save Clarke. They've just straight up not had enough time for Bellamy to be like, "Hey Echo, I know I said things wouldn't change but that was before my wife was actually alive, so bye." Though to wishing Becho had just never happened. We got one good angst scene with Clarke seeing them kiss. But otherwise, I could have very much done without their whole relationship.

Hexeosis: Why I sell my gifs as Crypto Art

Hexeosis is one of the success stories of Tumblr’s golden age. The psychedelic gifs created under the Hexeosis name became so popular that the person know as Hexeosis quit their day job and never looked back. Now Hexeosis sells gifs as Crypto Art, something I have been mystified by. Hexeosis was generous enough to answer my questions at length below.

Why did you decide to put your art on SuperRare and KnowOrigin?

I like SuperRare and KnownOrigin because they both feature clean interfaces and nice designs that I think complement the work being posted. And, they are some of the leaders in the cryptoart space which means they have traffic from many collectors and many artists. Both of the sites do a lot to promote the artists and the art works as well, which is a great feature.

Once a piece is sold, does that mean no one but the purchaser can see it? Can it ever be posted online again?

This is one of the things that makes crypto art a unique way to buy and sell art. For the most part, the sites selling crypto art do not prevent others from seeing it once it's sold. It's actually more of the opposite, in that the sites will host the images for all to see whenever they want to. Also, posting on-line is a bit controversial, but most feel that posting on-line is a good way to promote the work and to get a larger audience. There's not much of a real world equivalent to how that aspect works. There's a popular saying in the crypto art world "everyone sees it, only one owns it" said by artist Hackatao. Some artists and collectors don't completely agree with this idea. Some artists argue that posting the same artwork on social media devalues the crypto art version. Some also would like it to be set up in a way that the collector could decide whether to keep the image private or share more widely with the world. I think this is one of the issues that will continue to be explored as the space grows.

What do the collectors do with the art?

There's a wide range of collector behavior after they purchase a piece of crypto art. Some collectors will create galleries in various decentralized 3d / VR worlds to display the art. This is one of the best things about the ETH NFT art now in my opinion. There's a huge degree of interoperability between many decentralized apps right now. I have a museum and a gallery set up inside of CryptoVoxels, which is a 3d / VR world accessible via web browser. The parcels are sold as tokens on the Ethereum network and the world allows users to embed gifs, video, etc.... A lot of crypto artists have been attracted to the space and are building a really interesting world. Here's two of my locations you can check out:

Some people are also buying crypto art as investments. There have been notable re-sales of digital crypto art that have traded for many times the original purchase price. Some collectors are interested in curating collections and some have set up museums for this purpose. There are also 2d web sites that work like portfolios / display pages where collectors can show off their collections. I've also seen people promoting and selling physical display panels for the home, that you can send crypto art that you own to display.

Since you have the original source files you are legally obligated to never create a copy again? Even for portfolio purposes?

Artists agree to not reupload the same thing to multiple sites for sale, but it's ok to have in your portfolio or twitter feed. The terms of SuperRare state that the artist retains the copyright to the image, so the buyer doesn't even get the rights to re-purpose or publish the art without the permission of the artist. Some artists have decided to also include the copyright when selling the NFT.

Have you sold any pieces? How is the price relative to real world commercial work?

Yes! I started in December of 2019 on SuperRare and have sold 34 gifs so far for an average price of 1.5 ETH Here's a list of the artists on SuperRare

Can the artwork be resold?

Yes, this is a big factor actually. A number of collectors do look at this as an investment and do re-sell the works. Many of the platforms even have built-in royalty payments to the original creator. SuperRare and others currently include a 10% royalty payment to the original artist on re-sales. I've already had two works resold and have received a percentage of that sale. It's a pretty cool idea, especially since many artists have seen their early creations rise in value as more people enter the space and want to collect rare items.

Do know of other artists doing this?

I've followed both XCOPY (twitter @XCOPYART) and Yura Miron (twitter @YuraMironArt) for years on Tumblr and Twitter. I noticed that they both were posting more about crypto art and their involvement in it and that's what led me to investigate the space further. XCOPY is now one of the top selling artists, if not the very top at SuperRare. Since I've gotten involved, I've met probably close to 100 other artists now through the discussions groups, metaverse meetups, discord servers and twitter messages.

Do you get the sense that this is growing?

It is growing, there are more artists coming on board all the time and the developers of the dapps keep coming up with new ideas, features and integrations. Two years ago, the early artists were selling pieces for very low prices, under $100 and lately there have been digital crypto artworks that have sold for thousands of dollars.

How do you see the future of crypto art?

It seems like it's still in the really early stages. Most people don't really understand what cryptocurrency is all about and so crypto art is still largely unknown. But I do see it growing and gaining more mainstream acceptance all the time. I think in the future, the interfaces will be more user friendly and the backend will become a bit more transparent. I really like the idea of interoperable, ownable and tradable digital assets and people are coming up with new uses all the time.

Do you feel that the idea of 'owning' digital artwork is antithetical to the open idea of the internet?

I like this question. When I started the hexeosis project back in 2013 on Tumblr, I was making and posting art "for free" as in, anyone could look at what I was making and enjoy it and download it, etc.... If I could live in a world where money somehow didn't matter, I would be completely ok with that format. I really enjoy making and sharing art with people. The social media platforms have monetized all of the free content that we all have been providing them. They sell ads, etc... but don't share with the creators. I can't pay rent with social media likes or buy food with retweets, so I see cryptoart as a good way for creators to have direct control of the monetization of their work. Since most creators and collectors are ok with the idea of sharing the work, it doesn't really interfere with the open internet concept.

Let me know if you have additional questions! This was fun to think about and try to explain from my point of view. A lot of people in the crypto art space have come from various backgrounds, a lot of them are coders and developers and tend to explain things in a very technical manner. I am approaching it as an artist and looking at the crypto art space as a way to earn money from my digital creations. My explanations above probably gloss over some of the technical aspects and I probably even summarize some things wrong, but it's an evolving space and I am learning all the time. Thanks!

1. your all time favorite bl and why?

Ok, so I agree with Funya that the Untamed is not BL in the sense that I think this tag game means, but it is 100% my favorite and I consider it BL completely. I love it with my heart and soul.

But if I have to pick one that labels itself as BL, it is definitely Cherry Magic. As most people who have watched it have said, it is a straight serotonin hit and I continue to love it.

2. that one bl that scarred you for life?

There are a lot that are not great, unfortunately. I think Why R U? was the worst one for me. There was a SUPER triggering scene at the end that I just could not believe was there, despite knowing full well that it happens in the genre.

3. is there any bl that made you feel very single?

Lol, this is a funny question to me because I have not been single for a LONG time and it seems to presume that only single people would enjoy BL or romance tropes in general. Which I can assure you, is not true.

4. if you could change one thing from a bl, which one would it be?

Hands down the second season of Together with Me’s major plot point. (SPOILER) -->> The cheating plot line was the worst and I loved their first season relationship so much, that they grew from friendship and were so careful with one another’s feelings and then the second season curse. (although technically the third? Bad Romance was weird, yo.)

Actually, I would really say the same about IPYTM, although I found their portrayal more realistic, but still, I didn’t feel like they earned that situation as much as they should have, and COULD have knowing how well the first season was written.

AND, AND, sorry, this list could really go on forever, but there was a scene in We Best Love season 2 I’d love to erase from my brain and the show.

5. that one bl you detest (don’t hold back) :

Obviously there are so many bad things about TharnType. I would not say I detest it. I don’t think much about it. But I think the actors chemistry really allows people to gloss over some of the worst parts, although I feel mixed because they did outright address *some* of the badness in the second season and it is more than I have seen a lot of shows do, so I would not say detest. Just generally disgusted with some of the issues of the first season.

I don’t know what should be defined as trashy, but despite the stupid and really completely outrageous premise, I really enjoyed Be Loved In House I Do. I just ignored the whole set up because it was ridiculous and they shouldn’t listen to Jin Yu Zhen’s rules because they were dumb and not at all what a boss can dictate and it was obvious he was going to have to grovel about being wrong in the end. But they actually did a nice little twist on the whole ex returning that I thought was sweet and included Aaron Lai’s real life car accident in the plot in an affecting way that seems potentially meaningful for the actor. I do not understand the reasoning for the special episode at the end at all because I didn’t care about Real and Stone’s past relationship, but I really enjoyed the leads chemistry, SHI LEI’S MOM and grumpy/sunshine is ALWAYS my jam.

8. your favorite korean bl

To My Star hands down. Two relatively lonely people who let down their guard for each other? Love it. Their dynamic was so wonderful.

I do agree that Light on Me is very good, but I don’t think it would top To My Star for me. I tend to enjoy the more adult stories being, you know, more elder. But I am really happy that Korean BL seems to be growing and I have hopes for a good full kdrama BL romance someday.

9. season 2? which one?

Hrm, I don’t think I really liked any season 2s? I guess the best one I have seen is Still 2gether. They addressed any weird things from season 1 based on fan response, although some of it just retread territory that I thought they had gone through in season 1 and made me very sad for Tine being so insecure. BUT, I have said this before, that was the most romantic product placement I have ever seen when they threw the bottle across the street with the note, lol.

10. a bunch of dramas will air soon. which ones are you the most excited for?

I have no idea what will be airing. I let the peeps in the queermedia channel guide me. :)

hi!! I had a few questions. I’ve been questioning if I’m a system for a while and I rlly don’t know at which point it’s ok to say I am(how do I become confident in that?). I truly feel like different people with separate identities at times, and like I possibly have passive influence..especially with gender and sexuality. but what if if my identity is just fluid? along with feeling like different people, at times I rlly feel like the world and body isn’t mine or that I’m not even real or human. I think im ghostkin(as in involuntarily I feel like I am a ghost..dinosaur too) but I wonder if these are actually non human (or “undead ghost”) alters? how do I tell? recently I also looked back on old(but honestly not even that old at all) conversations.. to find that I had an extremely different typing style and way of behaving.. it distressed me and I didn’t think I could ever behave like that… especially since the way I act/type has changed so much in a short period of time.. I don’t remember this change happening.. possibly it’s just me becoming more mature but I rlly felt disconnected from that “past me.” Ive also always had dissociation and have been forgetful at times… it feels like everyday besides the current present never actually happened and it’s hard to remember or feel like it was me that experienced it. I do end up remembering stuff (it depends-) but is that amnesia? bc I know to have DID and OSDD-1a u need amnesia… so I’m like .. if I don’t have it then would I have OSDD-1b?.. the problem I’m having though… is that I’m not exactly having any communication with ANYONE in any way and I know very little(no names and such) about any other alters except: one feels transmasc one feels transfem and I started calling the transfem one momo?.. there’s also me having a traumatic experience and started to identity 100% as a fictional character (two but mainly this one happens right at the trauma) so I wonder if it’s not a kin but a fictives? .. plus at a young age I do remember experiencing trauma … so it makes me wonder if I’m a system or not .. but honestly I don’t know how to tell at this point bc I’ve tried to talk to others and it doesn’t work … I don’t feel confident saying I’m a system bc my experiences are not the same as others.. (they have carrds listing s bunch of info on all alters) and I don’t…and I don’t want u to dx me!! I just don’t know what to do at this point in time..? I don’t know how to move forward or what I should do .. I’m scared to tell my therapist ANYTHING mental health relays honestly

Hello there! First off, I am just gonna say we are in no way a professional so we cannot say for certain, but your experiences sound pretty similar to how ours have been especially looking back going "wtf is this? I don't remember this? Why was I writing like that?" and all that "good stuff"

It does genuinely sound like you might be part of a system, and please remember this as you go on, There is no universal plural experience. Not a single one will be exactly like the other, there will be similarities, but please don't freak out or worry when your experiences are not the exact same one. I also suggest at least asking your therapist.

You don't need to have complete and total amnesia to be a system for instance I do actually remember some of the things that happen if I'm in or near the front while someone else is piloting the body (Ex. I remember Sammi messing the body's mom with some of the plain white full face paper mache masks). I no longer know which one specifically we are specifically due to conflicting sources and explanations *but* I believe little to no amnesia is a much better definition for OSDD-1B and often amnesia, i.e. not remembering virtually anything while someone else is DID I can't remember much about OSDD-1A though.

And those could very well be fictives and and trauma at a young age definitely increases the likelihood of you being a part of a system. As for communication, perhaps try leaving notes in places they'll see with little questions like what their name is and what their pronouns are.

And finally if you don't trust your therapist with your mental health, then you should absolutely try and find a new one. Top 10 Personal Favorite Hit Songs from 2020

You know, when I finished my latest list and realised every decade had the same pattern and that we were slowly going towards a series of great years for pop, I didn’t realise how good that year would be.

What’s at the top? Am I boringly predictable because I already said I loved that song all the way back in January 2020? Let’s find out.

Disclaimers:

Keep in mind I’m using both the year-end top 100 lists from the US and from France while making these top 10 things. There’s songs in English that charted in my country way higher than they did in their home countries, or even earlier or later, so that might get surprising at times.

Of course there will probably be stuff in French somewhere on this post. We suck. I know. It’s my list. Deal with it.

My musical tastes have always been terrible and I’m not a critic, just a listener and an idiot.

I have sound to color synesthesia which justifies nothing but might explain why I have trouble describing some songs in other terms than visual ones.

So. Uh. How was your 2020?

Mine was actually surprisingly good, considering. I’m lucky enough to have a job that I can partially do from home, and I was extremely paranoid from the get-go and nobody got sick under this roof so far. Turns out I’m even better at my job from home and I got permission to work from home one day per week even after the health crisis is over! My first name was also finally officially approved and I can’t tell you how happy I feel about that. I almost feel bad to have had such a good year considering the circumstances. I feel like an asshole just because I’m happy, haha.

The only frustrating part was that I was supposed to see Hatari in concert in Paris in early April which, as you can guess, was cancelled. I’m not too mad about it though, since their tour was called “Europe will crumble” and the message saying the tour was cancelled started with “since Europe is actually crumbling due to Covid-19″ and that’s hysterical.

Good or interesting albums that came out in 2020 now, let’s see.

Nightwish released Human/Nature, which was a huge letdown compared to their previous album, but I will relisten to it at some point to make sure I wasn’t just in a bad mood that day.

The Birthday Massacre released Diamonds, which might be their weakest album since their debut, but contained some real gems (I listened to The Last Goodbye on a loop, it floored me. Flashback and Enter are also very good).

The 1975 released Notes On A Conditional Form, and let’s be real, it’s a f█cking mess. You could cut half the tracks and end up with an excellent album, but as it is it’s like, yes, a collection of notes ; however there’s some truely excellent shit on it (see unelligible songs).

Thanks to a friend on a discord server I was exposed to Dorian Electra’s music and I haven’t been quite the same ever since. I’m so happy to be alive to see other enbies making such great music with an insanely good aesthetic surrounding it and asking so many interesting questions about gender. Also the arc the ‘gentleman’ character goes through over the course of the entire tracklist of the 2020 My Agenda album is absolutely hilarious, don’t @ me.

I also discovered 100 Gecs this year. Why are most of you guys saying it’s unlistenable garbage. It’s just as abrasive and over the top as industrial music is, but with none of the edginess or drama. I love it. What the hell. But yeah Tree of Clues was released this year. Good.

Speaking of industrial, in March 2020 Nine Inch Nails were like “hey remember when we released Ghosts I-IV a decade ago entirely for free and how amazing that was? Well we’re all in lockdown and bored as hell so here’s Ghosts V-VI and it’s also free. Enjoy” and I f█cking died instantly. And it’s even better than I-IV. What the hell was that year

Jonsi released Shiver. It’s strange and highly experimental. I’m pretty sure it’s a good thing I was into hyperpop this year, otherwise going from his previous material straight to this album would have been brutal.

Yadda yadda yadda After Hours by the Weeknd good yadda yadda.

I’ve joked about that already but if you had told me in 2019 that 2020 would have fires, a pandemic, riots, monoliths appearing and disappearing, and also a super good Machine Gun Kelly album, guess which part I would have found the most ridiculous. But yeah uh. Tickets to my Downfall good

So uh this year I tried to listen to some hyperpop and liked it a lot, and I also dipped my toes timidly into screamo and listened to Svalbard, who released When I Die this year, and the entire album was a very beautiful, very intricately decorated punch to the face. It sounds like God Is An Astronaut except with a shit ton of yelling. I love it. Open Wound is my favorite track on it.

But no, despite all of this, my album of the year was from a band I had never even heard about before that year, called Spanish Love Songs. The album is titled Brave Faces Everyone and it’s line after line after line of extremely relatable generational angst but yelled with complete sincerity and it’s so propulsive and energetic you can’t help but feel both exhausted and ready to fight the entire universe. I don’t know how it works, but it’s incredible. The entire album is wonderfully brutal, so it’s kind of difficult to pick my favorite songs on it, but Beachfront Property and the title track stand out.

Unelligible songs, now, and there’s, uh, quite a few of them too so I’m also gonna use bullet points. Good lord this post is gonna be long.

First, let me say I have literally no idea why Midnight Sky by Miley Cyrus wasn’t a bigger hit. It’s not on the year-end US top 100 and it feels extremely wrong. Would have made it to #4 on this list otherwise.

I still entertain the vague hope that stuff from Machine Gun Kelly will chart higher in 2021 but I doubt it will happen so I might as well tackle it now and say that Bloody Valentine and especially Forget Me Too are both excellent and that it’s a shame radios aren’t playing them more often.

Heaven by the late Avicii featuring Coldplay should have charted in 2019 and still didn’t chart in 2020 and that’s a real shame.

If the world was a bit less unfair, Lovesick Girls by Blackpink would have been a hit rather than the awful Ice Cream.

One day I will stop complaining about my bafflement concerning the lack of mainstream pop charts success of The 1975. Today is not that day. I just love how they keep making songs about extremely awkward relationships full of weird details, and I haven’t grown tired of that yet. So yeah If You’re Too Shy is about a guy who’s crush is asking him to get naked on Skype in his hotel room and he’s, uh, not too sure about that idea.

And Me & You Together is about a guy who never finds the right moment to tell his best friend he’s in love with her, and he manages to do so at the end and it’s cute as hell. My fave part is “I'm sorry that I'm kinda queer / It's not as weird as it appears / It's 'cause my body doesn't stop me (Stop me) / Oh, it's okay, lots of people think I'm gay / But we're friends, so it's cool, why would it not be?”. Relatable as f█ck.

And now for an international hit that should have been bigger in the US and/or in my country but wasn’t: Head & Heart by Joel Corry and MNEK.

I’ve heard Nos Célébrations by Indochine extremely often on French radio for months now so I was very surprised to see that it didn’t crack the local year-end list. What happened.

I can finally hear the appeal of Bring Me The Horizon. It took me ages. And also Death Stranding. The song Ludens isn’t in the game per say, but it’s among the ones you can pick to broadcast briefly when people drive by your constructions, and long story short it's been living rent-free in my head for months now.

Phew.

It’s time for a round of Honorable Mentions for elligible songs, containing a couple of guilty pleasures, which is saying something considering the kind of shit I put on some of my previous lists.

Ne Reviens Pas (Gradur et Heuss l’Enfoiré) - Heuss is a French artist that kept baffling me while making my lists for the previous years, and I was like “??? ok, that’s it then, I guess I’m getting too old to get what teenagers find funny”. This one worked for me, though. And the music video doesn’t hurt. Really dumb and really fun.

Adore You (Harry Styles) - Perfectly good little pop song, very pleasant to listen to, never outstayed its welcome for me.

Mood (24kGoldn) - This doesn’t sound like a very good relationship, my dude, but that’s still a super pleasant song.

WAP (Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion) - This song is absolutely hilarious and I will hear no argument from any of you.

Control (Zoe Wees) - Was clearly a hit here. Should have been even bigger though. What a powerful but comfy voice. If I had better taste it would be on the list.

Hot Girl Bummer (Blackbear) - I. Uh. Listen. I keep saying I have bad taste and nobody believes me. Do you believe me now. But yeah. “F█ck you, and you, and you~, I hate your friends and they hate me too” is gonna pop in my head every single time someone is being a jerk anywhere near me now. It’s been happening all year already. Someone trashed my documents at work? Someone isn’t wearing a mask in public? That guy has filled his car with rolls of toilet paper? Brain goes “F█ck you, and you, and you~”. Every. Single. Time.

Come & Go (Juice WRLD & Marshmello ) - Damn, that’s a pretty good little song. I’ve seen plenty of people saying it’s ruined by the drop, but may I remind you I’m the person who loves Blue by Eiffel 65 with all my heart. If the song was ramping up consistently until the end instead of ending like that, it would have made the list, definitely.

And now, the actual list. This one actually feels pretty solid, I genuinely like everything on it, there’s no filler here for once.

10 - The Box (Roddy Rich)

US: #3 / FR: #23

Now this is a weird case, because for the longest time I couldn’t figure out why this song was so popular and I was completely neutral about it. Then, one morning in September, my mental jukebox (which always, always puts a song on a loop in my head when I wake up) decided to play it. And I was like oh wow?? I never noticed the atmosphere in that song before? It’s so great. And that hook too. Let’s listen to it.

So yeah, I don’t know what happened. It just clicked one day and everything fell into place, I guess.

9 - Alane (Wes & Robin Shulz)

US: Not on the list / FR: #93

Come on. You can’t do a remake of one of my previous #1 songs and let it chart in 2020. That’s cheating. Even with this subpar drop, I have to put it on the list, now.

I’ve already said my piece about the original, so I’m just going to send you back to my 1997 list.

8 - Kings and Queens (Ava Max)

US: Not on the list / FR: #76

[BBC documentary voice] After Lady Gaga decided to make piano balads and left her musical niche vacant, Ava Max quickly took her place as the top predator pop diva. Even after Lady Gaga was re-introduced to her natural habitat in 2020, she still hasn’t fully recovered in Europe, where Ava Max still reigns supreme on the charts -

(tldr I think it’s hilarious that this isn’t on the US Billboard while Lady Gaga isn’t on the French year-end top 100)

7 - Roses (Saint Jhn & Imanbek)

US: #19 / FR: #3

What an earworm. It doesn’t even bother trying to have an intro or an outro, so it loops almost perfectly. It’s like entering a party that started long before you arrived, and it will go on long after you leave it to go back home. Kind of hypnotic in a way.

And yes, my mental jukebox was very fond of using it to wake me up this year, so this is another song that’s here almost solely because of that.

6 - Physical (Dua Lipa)

US: Not on the list / FR: #69 (hehehe)

“Hey I’m not that old” says the guy who’s definitely a sucker for this kind of retro throwback that was so popular this year. Oh well.

I don’t have anything interesting to say about this one, though. Apart from the fact that everyone seems to have a different fave song on that album. Guess that’s quality for you.

5 - Rain on Me (Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande)

That is far from being Lady Gaga’s best song, but it was a joy to listen to everytime it was on the radio anyway. Also Ariana Grande has surprisingly good chemistry with Gaga! This year was full of strange duets mostly made for commercial reasons, and this one isn’t an exception, but unlike a lot of them, it really, really works.

4 - Dynamite (BTS)

US: #38 / FR: Not on the list

I’m still not 100% sold on k-pop even if a ton of it sounds super good, but come on. Even if some bits of this song (especially the beginning of the second chorus) sound a bit like they were made on autopilot, it still sounds just as happy and fun several months after I first heard it and I never got tired of it. That’s quality. You hear it and you can’t help but tap your feet and smile.

Actually, I’m sure there’s people somewhere that don’t smile when they hear this song. And they must be avoided at all costs.

3 - Godzilla (Eminem ft Juice WRLD)

US: #62 / FR: Not on the list

What are you doing so high on this list, old man. Why are you still here in the year 2020. I thought we left you in the previous decade. Who gave you the right.

I’m gonna tell you who did, and it’s actually Juice WRLD. Because that chorus is incredible, and like a lot of people I’m pissed off because the guy died super young and this shit shouldn’t happen to anybody. No, his early material wasn’t great, but I’m sorry I’m gonna say it again: have you heard this damn chorus? It’s suspenseful and dark, it’s got this lowkey menacing quality, it’s an earworm and a half, and it’s more convincing in like six lines than Eminem’s own flexing is in the entire song.

The beat is extremely good as well, and the flow, obviously, impressive. The weakest link is Eminem’s writing, which is as usual full of puns and weird wordplay, except here a lot of it isn’t great, and that last ultra fast part at the end is technically impressive but it also drives the song up a cliff and stops it dead in its tracks once it’s over. But frankly the lines fly by so fast it’s difficult to be too annoyed by them.

Can I sincerely put this extremely flawed song so high on my list? A better question would be “did I spend hours trying to learn how to sing this shit without choking on my own spit?”. The answer is yes. To both.

2 - Heartless (The Weeknd)

US: #28 / FR: Not on the list

I’ve said it on my 2015 and 2016 lists already, but just for the record I’ll say it again: it took me ages to like The Weeknd, mostly because I found most of his songs fairly boring, or disliked the lyrics, or both. Also I never really liked the general vibe of his “sexy” songs like The Hills, they felt dark but in an unpleasant creepy way. Felt like miserable hedonism, if that makes sense.

So, because I’m a person with extremely consistent and logical tastes, here’s the exact same shit he was making before, except that this time I absolutely adore it.

What is he doing differently that makes the whole After Hours album click for me whereas almost all of his previous material failed to do so? Is it the energy? Is it the reverb? Is it the fact that the narrator sounds properly unhinged and, frankly, scared to be spiralling out of control? Why are the colors so beautiful yet full of anxiety? Why is that bridge so fantastic? How can you make your voice look like a glowstick in the dark?

I give up. I have no clue. At least I’m done talking about-

1 - Blinding Lights (The Weeknd)

US: #1 / FR: #1 (listen sometimes something’s just that good, ok)

Surprise. Or not.

Wow, look at that, Johannes has put this year’s number one pop song at number one on their personal playlist. The audacity. The edge. What a hot take.

I discovered that song when it first came out at the end of 2019 and I adored it instantly. And I was so scared it wouldn’t be a hit. Which means I’m a f█cking dumbass considering it ended up breaking all sorts of records in 2020. But what can I say, overplay can be a blessing when you love a song that much.

Like every single song I put at number one on one of my lists, I will draw this one at some point and you will understand how incredibly satisfying it is to listen to a song called Blinding Lights, talking about city lights looking blurry when you’re driving at night, while looking itself like a bunch of blurry city lights passing by super fast. Perfect in every way.

Also it sounds exactly like A-ha, and that never hurts.

See you next year! Pretty sure it will be even better music-wise.

ok but this is not cringe at all let me tell u... I have a super complicated but almost kinda loving relationship with being an american (summed up pretty well here i think). I feel that a lot, I am not an idealist in any way but I try to look at things from all angles and roll with it all. like I said I think time and age can definitely help here. but growing up is so fucking confusing and scary and I 1000% relate. I think just focusing on doing good with what you have is a great way to go about it, 17 is so fucking turbulent, like, I promise it’s not always gonna be this ?!?!?!?!?! I promiseeee.

being VietAm especially is so... it’s such a space to be in, because the foundations of our ~hyphen identity~ are almost universally built from trauma. I don’t think many of our parents and relatives have really dealt with any of this conflict either, so def don’t feel bad abt feeling lost. I’ve discussed this with some of the other viets in my life and I think it’s really important to consider that collective trauma in all discussions about vietam identity. nobody talks about it. nobody wants it to be real. so the trauma just permeates through everyone’s lives and becomes so firmly rooted in our community, we get RVN nationalists storming the capitol holding the south vietnamese flag. we get vietam kids who are completely cut off from their heritage or past in the name of complete assimilation and escape from that trauma. idk it is super complicated it’s not just you and there’s so much to it. I still struggle super hard with this.

lol yes i love AsAm tiktoks I appreciate the energy. I appreciate the endless clowning on viet men. I appreciate their community. I will say probably a part of why I’m so fixated on maintaining my vietnamese now is because I completely lack that community? I live in a predominantly white area where I see a non-family viet person maybe... once every few months? that’s my way of coping, anyway. ah yeah this is super relatable to me. I mean, I’ve said this before, but I’m honestly not sure how I suddenly fell into the niche of “historical asian nations content”. my original focus was “everyone is a lesbian now”. I almost exclusively write AUs, the more AU the better, the more character focused the better, history might as well not exist for me and my writing. headcanon posts are the furthest I can go otherwise it’s just lesbian stupidity... and yeah, sometimes you just need the dumb lesbians. yea idk if you’ve read my big vietnam post but the last part about diaspora is realness for me. the truth is that nationverse/historical is just too fucking complicated for me. there is just way too much that goes into this stuff to condense down into nation people, much less nation people who are actually likeable or, ya know, like real people and not inhuman beings. I am 100% a character growth focused person. that’s kind of moot when you have all these questions about like what does the nation even represent etc etc it just eats up my whole brain. like, I fundamentally can’t get with nationverse, which is why I will not be writing anything serious with it for the foreseeable future. (none of this is disrespect or judgment to nationverse creators, I 1000% enjoy yalls content, I just could never make it myself because of all the contradictions I would have to balance in my own mind.)

ok i’m just rambling at this point now bc i don’t want to catch up on work EVEN THOUGH I REALLY FUCKING NEED TO but ugh i know it’s only been like... what, a week? less? that i’ve gotten sucked into svt hardcore but seriously they make me so happy and i’m obsessed rn... yeah maybe it might be my routine adhd hyperfixating at it again but if i’m at the point i’m saving pictures of minghao to my phone and actually CHANGING my phone background (which hasn’t been kpop since at least 2013) that’s significant. also they have sooo many songs and so many of them are so good, and i don’t move on from music that easily/quickly as opposed to visual things. ugh i’m just like... seventeen brain worms right now. i think about minghao and i’m like sir that’s my emotional support kpop boy.....

a couple weeks ago when christina first hit me up with the ‘so i may have gotten into seventeen’ message i was like LOL ok my biases are a tossup between joshua, jeonghan, wonwoo, and minghao and then during the in-complete concert i was like HMMM wonwoo? joshua? minghao? and still like two-three days ago when michelle added me to her svt discord server i was like uhhh am i a wonwoo or minghao stan. BUT NOW I’M LIKE.... NO QUESTION.... IT’S MINGHAO... I AM OBSESSED. i haven’t really watched enough minghao exclusive videos but i watched a bunch of junhao interactions and some of their chinese stuff and he’s like.... rather avant-garde with his approach to fashion (like a lot of his clothes i’m just like dude. why. oh my god what is with you and your glasses what the fuck are you wearing during the concert rn) and some dance/art, and really not what i go for ever (usually i immediately go for a visual or a memey member) but his resting bitch face/judgmental auntie/bitch vibe in contrast with his super cute squishy/frog grin draws me in so much LOL. like at first i saw that ‘YES! SHE IS A BITCH!’ post i reblogged last month and was like hmmmm............. reevaluating...... i see the appeal.... BUT THEN. I SAW THE WEVERSE BOYFRIEND IN BED SELFIES AND WAS LIKE................................................ SPEECHLESS.... 🚶‍♂️ WALKING AWAY....... MANY THOUGHTS...... HEAD FULL......... like “i don’t like the way these photos are making me feel, he is objectively not hot here and i’ll look incredibly straight to my friends and i will not voice my feelings lest i admit i think i have a thing for him” .... but to no avail as i so very quickly have fallen down the rabbit hole...

also i first decided to look into svt’s chinese stuff since that doesn’t require me to be looking at the subs 100% and it helps me practice my chinese but the junhao countryside farming/cooking segment was so fun to watch he just kept climbing up i guess... he’s like a kinda judgy but loving mom and he does some silly things (tomato with a toupee...), super health-conscious, has a sharp/witty tongue, calling jun ugly in the same breath as calling him handsome, telling a fan ‘it’s because your hair’s bleached!’--oh wait i think this reminds me of kyuhyun a little actually... i guess with male idols i am drawn to the snarky kinda members. he’s also considerate though and gives thoughtful advice to people, is really serious about his goals and the kind of art he wants to create, it’s admirable... just not something i’m used to? i’m so used to liking kinda dumb or snarky male idols . err. well actually now that i think about it the last time i liked a male idol to a similar extent (past surface level, actually watching variety shows and trying to befriend other people who like them/him) was kyuhyun so i guess i don’t have much to compare to... but i do like kinda dumb male idols in general? or pretty and kinda memey BUT LIKE I SAID MINGHAO DOES NOT FALL UNDER ANY OF THOSE CATEGORIES SO THIS WAS UNPRECEDENTED. i don’t usually go for dancers!!! i almost ALWAYS go for the main vocalist no matter what, otherwise visual, and. minghao is neither. also i like guys with some meat on them/ass but hao is............... he’s......... i’ll admit he has some arm definition now like in this pic (had me going ooooooooooooooo!!!!!)

BUT EVEN COMPARED TO THE REST OF PERFORMANCE TEAM (hoshi and dino kind of have ass, so i guess that’s unfair, but jun is very lithe) HE’S... A TWIG...... and i usually strongly avoid mainland chinese members because i’m # antimainland/dalu and i usually drag my other best friend for her tendency to go for dudes who look super mainland (like you can just . see it.) despite being taiwanese and yet here i am huh 🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴 liking performance unit and china line best when it comes to groups too.. (booseoksoon is also good but not the same level of obsession of course) minghao just overturns all of my usual expectations/rules/habits...? i guess that’s another reason i’m so like... WOW..... MINGHAO BRAIN

and usually i also go for the more popular members i think...? like originally, joshua/jeonghan, and even wonwoo (i really hadn’t realized how popular he is LOL). i read an account of how he ducked when he noticed a fan was taking photos of him and the fan asked why he did that, and he said it’s because usually fans want photos of (other member) so he instinctively moved out of the way and that made me really sad... i think it was a while ago bc he’s way more confident and knows he’s well-loved now (i think). but yeah ugh now i’m like i kinda wanna... buy merch... BUT NO I WILL RESIST GIVING MY MONEY TO PLEDIS AND BIGHIT... THEY HAVE ENOUGH MONEY!! the only money i’ll hand over is for concerts :\\\ speaking of which svt is the only group i’ve seen twice now, which is significant i think. and basically within a year... i can’t wait for covid to end for MANY many reasons but also so if they do a world tour again or come to kcon, i can see them live again... they’re such, such good performers and so fun. i like them so much!!!! ahhhhhhhhh also i like that the fandom is fairly anti-bts lol just the way i like it.

SO LIKE. THE SIGNS WERE THERE. i do think it’s hilarious that while i’m obsessed with hao now, i wasn’t a year ago, and yet i still have this iconically terrible photo of him while jeonghan looks pretty

also i think seungkwan might be higher up than jeonghan only for the fact he’s hilarious (not that jeonghan isn’t, but it’s surprising that fairy prince visual snarky liar/cheater jeonghan isn’t my favorite bc that ticks off everything i like) in his reactions and passion for kpop/history and so earnest/loving of his members, such a damn good singer, cute/squishy... i think he’s my fourth favorite? after joshua the (fairy boy) embarrassing weirdo LA burger king foot lettuce...

Most popular multi-chapter fic: obviously where the light goes, also known as my beloved CHILD !!!! i don’t write multichaps anymore but this is 2 long ass chapters so ig that’s Technically a multichap haha,,, yeah i knew this one was gonna be popular for the same reasons as the previous one + the very intentional tipping of the scale i did here with the balance of fluff and other things. like this is just pure distilled sugar it’s so so fluffy

Favourite story you’ve written so far: oh mannnn i gotta say where the light goes. especially that first chapter, just,, damn. what was i ON ?? its so good!! what the heck!!! quite proud of my metaphor work there, even if balancing prose/poetry feel is very stilted at times . in terms of that balance i think i did a Really good job with and neither did the both of us bc i went back and reread where the light goes for inspiration and i was like “oh god this is DROWNING in metaphors i need to lighten it up a little”

Fic you were nervous to post: i was nervous about where the light goes bc i had such high expectations going in, like i Knew people were craving what i had but i was like, did i do it right?? will this be my breakthrough in the mdzs fandom??? and it sort of was and sort of wasn’t, which,, fair. also SUPER nervous for astriferous bc i had written it all in like, one (1) day and it was for an exchange LMFAOOO (and you can really tell it was all written in one go......it was only when i hit the end that it got Good)

How you choose your titles: when i write fic i’m often scrapbooking a TON of different things together so titles are often just whatever it is i’m already drawing from. there are a few exceptions, like here, then, begins the mending, or and i need nothing more where a phrase popped into my head during the writing/drafting/brainstorming process and i was like OH THAT’S REALLY GOOD. TITLE IT IS

Do you outline?: usually only if it’s plot-driven, like my (incomplete for . Reasons) (ok i was being pestered bc i took it as a prompt and my promptee was. hm) YW multichap equilibrium, for which i outlined EVERYTHING. it was so annoying but i also lowkey liked it because these were MY messy outline notes and i could go as ham as i’d like

Complete: everything that’s posted !! except equilibrium ofc . that’s gonna stay where it is unless by some miracle of nature i get my momentum back for it

In progress: i am working on another jaslief oneshot!!! and for my mdzs folks i have been working on a rly long lesbian songxiao oneshot for a Very long time and it’s . mwah (i showed it to one of my friends and she lost her mind so i think i can say that with confidence)

Coming soon: probably nothing until i’m released from ochem/thesis hell hahahahahahahaaa but if anything were to come out this year it would be the songxiao most likely !

Upcoming story you’re most excited about?: bold of u to assume i read multichapters anymore HAHAHA i rotate through the same library of 100 one-shots i have bookmarked now......but back when i did read multichaps i was REALLY into the work of iruutciv + orchids_and_fictional_cities team from yoi, they were absolute LEGENDS and their fic and miles to go before i sleep changed me as a person lmao (i also did read part of their ongoing but monsters are always hungry, darling and i’m actually still in their discord for it but it is SO so intricately crafted and i fell out of the loop and didn’t rly get back in) . currently i follow megafaunatic aka etymologyplayground’s work the most closely for my mxtx fix (my fav from them currently is probably you, asleep and dreaming)
