What’s up with the spores? Like, has anyone got info on what spores do to a person who is exposed to them????
This got me thinking about all the whose getting vecna’d speculation in s5, and it could very well mean ALL of them are in danger in terms of being targeted.
If all it takes is them being exposed to the spores, could they all be at risk?
Maybe they could all experience effects like nightmares/hallucinations??
This also reminds me of El’s line at the start of s4 where she says We’re all time travelers if you think about it!
Is it possible ALL of them could be dealing with having to confront past memories, ie they’re own form of time traveling to figure out how to defeat vecna??

❪ LOOKISM BOYS<33 ❫ ❮ little sweetheart (child!reader) ⟡ ↳ platonic!Harem (workers version)
- Who knew a young child is involved in such a criminal association such as the workers? Who knew the young sweetheart has captured many of the workers hearts’ as well?
- Your presence was sudden, having been introduce by none other than Charles Choi, giving everyone a brief notice that you are welcomed by the elite CEO himself, that must mean something. You’re special.
- You play such big parts in the worker’s plans despite being young(around 13-14 yrs old), earning Eugene’s approval, praising you for your logical intelligence as he pats your head in soft caresses
- Yuseong, his younger twin, has taken a liking to you as well, offering to let you play with his toys whenever you visit the company--Which happens ever so often, but nobody complained, in fact, they preferred your presence over anything else
- It didn’t matter that you were childish, it was a part of growing after all, a reason why Eugene lets you run rampant inside his company like it’s a playground. Eugene creates rules for safety measure, but other then that, he gave you the privilege to do anything, even going as far as to enter the room when there’s a meeting.
- Samuel acts ever so stoic and dull on you, scolds and huffs at you like a tired father, yet he hopes you know that he only means well. He takes pleasure in being your bodyguard, pretending to act as if it’s nothing when he hears your arrival, yet he is always at the entrance, eager to meet your doe eyes as you open your arms to hug him, to which he complies
- He has taken you to rides before, often being assigned to take you to the private and luxurious school Charles Choi has transferred you in, but he didn’t mind it, even when he clicks his tongue in feigned annoyance, yet he still assists you, even going as far as to show off in his 100 million car. He has grown to like you alot, to the point he lets you play around in his cars
- “Oi! You scratched the new leather seats I got.” “I’m sorry Sir Samuel, I didn’t mean to!” “... It’s fine, just keep still next time, brat.” If it were someone else, they would’ve been 6 ft under.
- Neko gushed at your cuteness, ignorant of the fact that a young teen managed to enter the private area filled with blood and gore--She definitely hides you from the treacherous games, but yet she wanted you to stay.
Ryuhei Kuroda kept pinching your cheeks and teasing you for your height since the day you came, thinking of you as the child of him and Neko, such childish dreams, but he made it obvious all the time
“Yah, Neko~ Our baby Y/n is here!” “Want your papa to buy you a toy or something? Oh, right…. Yeah, I’m your papa!"
Now gun and goo, even with a child, they are still so careless
Goo screams your name from a mile away throughout the entire building, opening his arms wide as he runs towards you, holding you up in the air as he twirls the both of you around
Being given mission by Charles Choi, the infamous pair are always there by your side, protecting you from any harm as you complete your quests for the workers affiliates
Gun, as with his calm demeanor, it’s relaxing to be with him, receiving soft pats and short praises from him many times, not to mention his liking towards carrying you
Whenever you’re with him, he doesn’t waste no time to hold you with one arm and resumes to his schemes, he may be quiet but he’s really great with the littlest of details
You don’t like pickles on your burger? He’ll get rid of it before you can even see it. You gushed about a pair of toys 2 week ago? It’s inside your bedroom now. You only like a certain color in a pack of gummy bears? He’ll pick them himself so you wouldn’t have to <3
Goo is vocal with his wants, always whining that you should call him “Big brother/Oppa” instead of ‘sir’! Spends millions on you, from the headband on your head, to the custom made designer shoes you wear for school.
He’s a maniac, he’s a psycho, but he just couldn’t help but feel at ease with you, for once he’s not meeting new members just as a nutcase like him, you were a breath of fresh air for him
They all protect your innocence from the illegal work they do, they’ll protect you from being ruined, not matter what, you’re their little baby after all <3
Little do they know you’re just as deranged as them lol

Post-O66 Mace going into hiding as a pirate with a crew like Hondo's, is that anything?
I got a bunch of input on discord. Calling this one:
A bunch of pirates, a Jedi Master on the run, and a traumatized twelve-year-old.
Kicking off with a key part of it all is @atagotiak (Tia):
He’s annoying because he’s such a stick in the mud (by which I mean it’s rather inconvenient for a pirate crew when the new recruit has morals and stuff) But he’s too valuable to get rid of, due to having all that experience with administration
I am enamored with the idea of Mace's main job being just. Pirate Admin.
Mace: So this is what I am reduced to. Aiding and abetting… in tax evasion. Hondo: And piracy. Mace: The tax evasion is a bigger hit to my pride.
Tia:
The pirates are annoyed that despite him stopping them from going through with the more immoral (and lucrative) plans they’re still making more money than before
Pirates: How are we making more money now-- Mace: Have you heard of a budget.
@jebiknights (knights):
okay but traditionally pirate ships have a quarter master who is high ranking, in charge of the bounty of every prize and therefore in charge of dividing everything up fairly like that could work really well lmaooo
The crew runs into Obi-Wan during the Leia incident and it's just time for "I can explain" on both ends.
Tia:
Hey, d’you think the pirates go after force sensitives? Mace managed to talk them into recruitment and/or relocation instead of selling to the empire. (And that’s another thing that could possibly have worked out better for them than the immoral option (not least because the empire doesn’t really treat its allies well)) Obi-Wan: and how are you dealing with Hondo’s… nonsense? Mace: eh, it’s not like he’s any worse than you or Yoda. (Mace is probably just messing with Obi-Wan. Probably)
Also I'm thinking that one of those initiates that Hondo let go(?) that one time finds them because a pirate might be likely to sell them out but they're demonstrably competent at evading arrest, so maybe-
And that's how Mace ends up with another padawan. Maybe Katooni.
@dracothulhu:
Hondo would put him in so many stupid costumes
knights:
i also just realized that mace loses both of his hands in rots..... hondo tries to convince him at least one of said hands should be a hook or a lightsaber
Tia:
Probably deliberately playing straight man about it. He doesn’t care about dignity that much, but there’s benefits to exaggerate how humiliating he finds it Hey, y’know what’s piratical? Eyepatches
[vibrates in response to baiting for Nick Fury jokes] Love it
Tia:
I do think as much as jokes about Samuel L Jackson’s other roles are fun, pirate Mace shouldn’t swear much, even after becoming acclimated to pirate life.
knights:
also i agree i think pirate mace shouldnt swear much, he should get to use his classically trained acting chops and give dramatic speeches like hes the love interest in a pirate romance novel hondo is swooning in the background .... nixy im about ready to start crack shipping them bc of this dammit this is going to pick at my brain isnt it dhgisrjgser (pirate mace not the hondo/mace part) honestly the funniest thing is that mace would probably really enjoy being a pirate after all of the beauracracy he had to deal with in the senate during the war. things are much more simple even if everyone drives him nuts lol listen mace didn't intend to get directly involved in the actual like heists probably, he is there to lay low and also to keep the ship organized and make sure hondo doesnt blow all their money on booze and "investments", but then hondo's dumbass probably gets in over his head along with his first mate and some other crew members and mace is starting to like the life hes living esp bc he is still able to help people on the Path in between thievery and tax evasion, so he goes to rescue them and is like... what am i supposed to do i am too recognizable i am supposed to be dead and puts on a disguise and just goes for it
Another thing Mace is good at is contracts He is. Painfully good at it. He doesn't enjoy it, but watching Hondo draft up a contract is almost painful. (Hondo is smart at this. He's clever. He's experienced. But he didn't take multiple classes on contract law.)
Tia:
Hondo never seemed especially book smart, and he never made a promise he hadn’t at least considered breaking so contracts would be a weak point for him

Rookie Mistake [2]
Summary: In which Poe Dameron is freaking out because he's going on his first date.
Pairing: Poe Dameron x f!reader
Warnings: Fluff, panicky!Poe, brief ReyFinnPoe shenanigans, sprinkle some angst (if you squint), reader being sassy, Poe being cute.
A/N: Co-written with @sofasoap because a lot happens in our DMs and I feel like some of our insanity needs to be evaluated by a professional😂 Thank you so much for the support❤️ I really appreciate it💐💐💐
[Part 1]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Poe doesn’t realize that he’s been rambling for the past five minutes now. He feels sweat on his palms, his heart beats a thousand parsecs a second.
“Tatooine was an absolute nightmare because not only did the mission go south, we had to spend an entire week getting roasted in the Maker-Forsaken heat–”
He doesn’t think he’s said this many words in an entire day.
He’s nervous. Almost fearful that this date won’t go as planned. That you might hate him and never want anything to do with him.
That wasn’t an option. He couldn’t bear it if you decided you never wanted to see him again.
The soft light of the moon and the stars above illuminate from above, but he lit a few candles just in case. Which worked fine for the aesthetic of a midnight picnic on the cool grass fields far away from the base.
Finn and Rey were a big help in this entire thing. In fact, they were brutal when it came to shutting down his –now that he thinks about it– ridiculously dumb ideas for a date. There was a lot of bickering involved, but that’s a story for another day.
Finn helped him pick out the food, but Poe was very particular on that topic because he knew some of the things you liked. Sweet wine, fruits, sandwiches, and pastries. Certain flavours you’ve mentioned in past conversations came to him in flashes made him realize just how much he’s been holding onto them. Actually, Poe hangs on to every word you say.
How could he not? He wants to know everything there is about you. He may or may not be a little bit obsessed with you and he’s not very good at hiding it.
But who could blame him? With your stunning beauty and sharp tongue, who, in the entire galaxy, could blame him for being absolutely enamoured by you? Not just that, underneath your deadpan disposition and casual aggression, you have a kindness that most people tend to overlook.
Even though you give him shit for wrecking his ship, you go out of your way to help him fix it. You bring him a cup of caf when he needs it the most. You give him some words of encouragement– very few words, because you know, so he doesn’t think you like him like everyone else does.
You don’t treat him like he’s a god like everyone else does. Like he’s made of pure gold. Like he could do no wrong. You treat him like a soldier. To you, he’s that annoying friend you can’t get rid of but have grown accustomed to having around.
He doesn’t mind it. Your presence takes a lot of pressure off his shoulders. He doesn’t have to be the face of the Resistance. He’s not constantly trying to keep everything afloat. He doesn’t have to worry about what he’s doing wrong and that his actions might cost the lives of many.
He’s just another guy to you. He’s just Poe.
“And then what happened?” you ask before taking a bite out of your sandwich. “While you were spending the week getting roasted by the stifling heat, I mean.”
Poe has to take a moment to breathe because he realizes that he stopped talking. He was staring at you. He hadn’t realize that you were actually paying attention to his ramblings.
“Uh–” he stammered, blushing profusely as he tried to laugh it off with a nervous chuckle. “W–we almost died of thirst if Pava hadn’t found us.”
“Hmm…” you hummed thoughtfully. “She did mention having to bring water for three banthas. I’m assuming you were one of them.”
He burst into laughter which made him fall on his back from his seated position on the dark blue blanket. When he catches the quirk of your lip, he feels a bit of relief that you haven’t chosen to walk out after so much time has passed into the night.
But when he glances behind you, far behind you, and sees the two figures hiding in the bushes, he nearly panics. It’s Rey and Finn, both giving him thumbs up. He wants to believe that he hasn’t fucked up just yet.
He looked up at the sky, leaning on his hands. Their light illuminates the night sky and everything under it. He knows it’s probably past midnight and you both have to be up early.
“It’s getting late.” he muses sadly, still admiring the stars.
“It is…” you reply.
He doesn’t want this to end just yet. He wants to cling to you a little longer.
Poe glances at you and finds you laying down with your hands clasped right under your chest. He moves closer and lies next to you in the same position. This felt… nice. Peaceful. It’s almost hard to believe that he’s been begging for this chance for so long, he thinks that this might be a dream.
“So…” he sighs, looking at you with a nervous smile. “You don’t hate me, right?”
You are silent for a moment. The deal was that if you don’t hate him by the end of this date, then there’s still a chance for him. A chance for a second date. For more.
Maker, he wants more. If he were given the chance to kiss you right now, he would take it. No hesitation whatsoever. He wants more time. To see you, hear your voice, hear you laugh. Maybe even touch you.
This war has taken so much from him. If you could grant him this one wish, this one chance, then losing might not hurt as much.
“I don’t hate you, Poe.” you say, and your eyes meet his. “Truthfully, I don’t think I could ever hate you.”
Your confession strikes a chord in him. An echo in the back of his mind ringing the truth and nothing but the truth. As he looks at you now, he knows–
I love you.
It takes everything in him not to say it out loud. Poe realizes that he’s known for a while now. Possibly since he stopped fooling around with other people. Hell, possibly since he met you.
“Good to know.” he nods, clearing his throat. “So d–does that mean–”
“Yes, Poe.” He can’t breathe when you move a little closer until your forehead touches his shoulder for a second. You look into his eyes and smile. “You’re getting a second date.”
He cannot, for the life of him, find it in himself to look away from you when you smile at him like that. There is a warmth in his chest that unfurls when he’s around you and he’s so addicted to it. He’s addicted to you.
“Can I kiss you?”
“Don’t push it.” You giggle, shoving his shoulder as you sit back up.
He follows, chuckling sheepishly. “Right. Sorry.”
But you’re still smiling and you kiss his cheek anyway. You don’t seem to mind how eager he is to be around you, to want more, even as you bar his advances. That’s okay. He’s on a date with you and you don’t hate him. That’s all that matters.
“Oh, so I can’t kiss you, but you can kiss me?” he jibes, feigning a glare at you.
“Fuck off, Dameron.” you laugh brightly, playfully shoving him, the sound fluttering butterflies in his stomach. He shakes his head as he watches you.
He’s going to see you in his dreams again.

@piratecaptainscaptainpirates keeps posting meta which is a disaster (affectionate) bc it gives me Thoughts and Feelings
this post got me thinking specifically about izzy and control. izzy clearly wants and needs to be in control and he deliberately works to maintain this control. he acts as an intermediary between ed and the rest of the crew, choosing what to tell each party about the other and often lying. when he feels disrespected or as if he has no control over the crew, he lashes out - we see this when he makes lucius scrub the boat and when he cuts wee john's rations.
but when his control over ed specifically is threatened, we see him doing Something Big to try and get it back - such as deciding he's going to duel stede, or selling the crew out to the navy, both of which are attempts to get stede permanently away from ed by killing him.
then, in s1e10 when stede actually is removed from the situation, izzy is thoroughly unimpressed that ed is still acting 'wrong'. moreover, his role as the only go-between between ed and the crew is threatened - he panics when ed asks to speak to lucius, and he panics further when ed is being more open and like himself with the crew, because the only thing that's allowing izzy to keep his control over ed and over how ed interacts with the crew is the myth he perpetuates about ed being terrifying and unapproachable. if ed is violent and volatile and too busy to talk to anyone unimportant, then there's a role for izzy bc it makes sense to the crew that ed is not available to them. but if ed is Just A Guy, who wears a robe and sings about his feelings and wants everyone to join in with a talent show, then that myth has a massive hole in it and izzy's role is no longer necessary. so he pushes the exact buttons that he knows he needs to push to force ed back into the blackbeard persona and drive a huge wedge between him and the crew.
which leads us to the beginning of s2, where the pivotal moment that changes ed and izzy's relationship is when ed tells izzy that someone else could do his job. it's not when he cuts izzy's toes off, it's not when he overworks the crew, it's not when he's taking loads of rhino horn - the sole thing that crosses a line for izzy is the threat of being replaced. because losing his toes doesn't mean a loss of control - if anything, it solidifies his position as playing a unique role in relation to ed, since the rest of the crew remain unharmed. but the threat of replacement most definitely does.
and it's at this point that we see izzy trying to use the same tactic as in s1e10, pushing the right buttons by yelling at ed and referencing his feelings for stede, except this time there's nowhere else for ed to go. there's no defence mechanism to retreat behind. he's already in the persona that izzy wanted him to be in. he's already acting the way izzy wanted him to act. so he shoots him. and it's a pivotal moment, not because of the physical harm (because this has been discussed to death and violence in ofmd is not treated the same as violence in the real world) but because it's a turning point where izzy tries a Big Gesture that involves ed directly (as opposed to e.g. the duel or the navy, where he's trying to get stede away from ed as opposed to trying to do anything to ed) and it doesn't work like it did in ep10 - it backfires (literally!) and izzy is harmed as a result.
his entire redemption arc is based on him accepting that ed is better off with stede - and therefore on him ceding the control over ed that he's been clinging onto for years.
which is also why it makes so much narrative sense that he dies at the end of s2. because s1 izzy would not have got shot. s1 izzy would not have been there, helping with the plan, working alongside stede and ed together. he would've been trying to separate them, trying to find a way to get ed to leave stede and the others for dead, or working with the enemy if it meant he might get rid of stede and get ed back to himself.
but s2 izzy's arc is about learning to let go of his need to control ed and ed's image, and about how when he lets go of this ed gains the freedom to be himself and to interact with the crew as himself. he got the only ending that would make sense - a final bit of closure, a final letting go moment where he releases the last tiny bit of control he has over ed by apologising and telling ed to 'just be ed'. when izzy takes his last breath, so does blackbeard.
anyway thanks for reading my novel i love you have a great day

Saw the post where you said:
"As for malicious compliance, not only is that guy fucking quiet quitting, doing the very bare minimum he's required to do while mourning his late wife's passing, he's also doing what he's told but not the way he should be. He's following Bane, he's supposed to be a tyrant, feared by his subjects. Yet that MF is being revered and celebrated as hero. Yes sure he's ruling the city but in the wrong fucking way."
This, right here! This is not talked about nearly enough. Gortash is arguably a terrible Banite. Yet at the same time, he's also incredibly effective. Imagine Bane's frustration. "You are doing it ALL WRONG!" but also admitting that he's getting results. Maybe even re-thinking his strategy. It's 1492, after all. Maybe it's time to change up the face of Tyranny.
That's the thing though. He sucks as Banite. But he's also one of the best ones. He's Schrödingers Banite.
He's undeniably feared by his own followers, smth Bane approves of.
But the common folk love him as their hero. Big dislike from Bane for this one.
And the Patriars r split on their opinions of him, but at least before their inevitable death they definitely feared him.
He's using everything and everyone he can get his grabby paws on to further his plans and plots, which is once again smth Bane approves of. I mean, he's not below using even himself; but on the other hand he's outsourcing fking tyranny to his PR teams and all.
Bane is having a stroke with this best-worst chosen of his. As am I at times when trying to make sense of this lil murderous train wreck. Gortash is like that 1 guy in your company where you constantly wonder how they're still here, but the sht they do isn't actually bad and HR just can't get rid of him cuz it would be a nightmare for everyone involved.

NHS/JGY are cultivation soulmates
“Oh,” Nie Huaisang said, blinking. For the first moment, he looked just as stunned as Meng Yao was – but, unfortunately, he recovered faster. “Oh, this is wonderful!”
This was terrible.
Meng Yao had plans, plans that did not involve turning out to be unusually compatible as dao companions with the notoriously useless and empty-headed second son of the Qinghe Nie, no matter how charming he might be. He was going to get back to Jinlin Tower – he was going to get the name and patrimony he was owed – he was going to be the one standing at the top of the stairs, not the bottom –
“I’ll have to tell da-ge at once!”
“No!” Meng Yao blurted out, too panicked to stop himself, and only afterwards belatedly realized that his reluctance could be interpreted as an insult. And that, of course, would be even worse – Meng Yao needed his position in Qinghe Nie to get into a position that would allow him back into the Jin sect, and he couldn’t afford to be throwing ‘wonderful’ opportunities like this back in the faces of the sect heir. After all, for all that Nie Mingjue seemed to like Meng Yao well enough, everyone knew how much he indulged his brother… “Ah, that is – Nie-gongzi –”
“I see,” Nie Huaisang said, looking at Meng Yao thoughtfully. “No, no, it’s quite all right. I’m not offended.”
He said that, but was he really?
“Really,” Nie Huaisang assured him. “I mean, I’m hardly a catch, am I? But that’s fine. We can fix this.”
Meng Yao frowned at him, not understanding.
“It’s just a matter of figuring out how to make this something we both benefit from, that’s all – a way we all win.” Nie Huaisang smiled. “If you stay here and become my dao companion, Da-ge benefits from my cultivation improving, I benefit from having a good friend, and you…well. We need to make sure you benefit, too, don’t we?”
He laughed even as Meng Yao stared, having never seen this particular side of Nie Huaisang before.
“What is it you want?” he asked. “Your rightful name as Jin Ziyao? Would that be enough? Or, ooh, do you want to inherit Jinlin Tower? Because that would be very convenient – da-ge could rule here, you and me could rule there…as long as we can get rid of the Wen sect, which we’re going to have to do anyway, that would position us quite well, now, wouldn’t it?”
“…you want to rule the cultivation world?” Meng Yao asked disbelievingly. That didn’t sound like the Nie Huaisang he knew.
“I want my sect to do well, like any good son,” Nie Huaisang corrected him piously, then grinned. “Besides, why would I want that when you and da-ge can rule the cultivation world for me instead?”
That…sounded a lot more like Nie Huaisang, yes.
“So what do you say? Are you in?”
Huh. Maybe they really were soulmates.

Various betrayal headcanons due to my illnesses
The ambush happens in Half Life anyway, so originally it was gonna go how it does in Half Life, but then Benrey was introduced into the equation and the soldiers decided there could be an easier way to get Gordon into the ambush room.
They basically told Benrey "Look, we only want Freeman, if you lead him to a specific room, we'll ambush him, take him to Topside for… 'questioning', and once we're through with him we will let you and your team go free, turn a blind eye and say we got all of you and let you get eaten by some of those creatures"
Benrey isn't that stupid. He's stupid, but not stupid enough to blindly trust military soldiers. (In his worldview, the US military is Bad, so anything they say must be a cover for something.) He can tell that they're gonna kill Gordon. But unfortunately for all, he's under the assumption that Gordon can respawn. So obviously, get Gordon killed, and the soldiers will assume he's permadead. From there, meet up with Gordon again, get him out of the suit (too identifiable), and then they'll be able to get out alive.
(That part was also a lie. They were never gonna let the rest of the team go. They'd just kill Gordon, then kill the rest of the team. Get rid of the leader, it's easy to pick everyone else off.)
Benrey got Bubby involved because they're besties and because Bubby went off to play soccer with him while the others were discussing their dreams. Bubby agreed because Gordon was being an annoying little bitch and was holding back his speedrun strats :/
And obviously, we know the ambush went absolutely perfectly according to plan is what I would say if I was a fucking liar.
Bubby was pretty much excited the entire time until the arm came off
Benrey started off fuckin HYPED but then Gordon got more beat up and there was more blood and he started to be like "wait this sucks actually"
Once Gordon was in the room and got attacked, Tommy tried to get in to save Gordon, but was being held back by Bubby. He was fuckin TERRIFIED for Gordon's life.
And Dr Coomer... So in Half Life, the ambush is a cutscene, yeah? Well, why wouldn't that be true in HLVRAI too? It's just Half Life with VR and absurdly advanced AI slapped on top of it. The main plot stays the same, though the details are VASTLY different. Therefore, the ambush is just a cutscene with altered context. The gang can talk over it, yes, but it's still a cutscene. Meaning they can't interfere, no matter how much they want to. If anyone tries to walk into or out of the room, they'd just hit an invisible wall. They can't get through it no matter what- can't clip, can't break it, can't do anything.
You will never guess who steps forwards to help and hits the invisible wall first! it's dr coomer
This does not help with his existential crisis (and may have caused him to go full clone fight)
And then Gordon lost his arm and even without the wall, everyone was too shocked to even try to step forwards and help him.
They weren't meant to cut off his arm. That was never discussed with Benrey or Bubby.
Coomer managed to drag Tommy away with him (Tommy needed a minute alone to just completely freak out because What The Fuck, Coomer needed to be alone because not just What The Fuck but also the invisible wall didn't help)
Bubby stayed with Benrey due to guilt, and about half the soldiers dragged Gordon away. The others stayed behind to thank Benrey (they were unaware he'd gotten Bubby involved), and Bubby became FUCKING FURIOUS and attacked them
The remaining soldiers managed to overpower Bubby and drag him off to his tube (which they told Bubby), and Bubby was freaking the fuck out yelling for Benrey (the only other one around at this point) to FUCKING HELP HIM HE'S GONNA GO BACK IN HIS TUBE
Benrey was too in shock to do anything but just stare at Gordon's arm that whole time. He didn't move for a long, long while. (Once he had the thought to do anything, he basically, on autopilot, found the soldiers and tore them to pieces.)
Remember how I mentioned the ambush would've happened anyway, and then the AI were introduced into the equation? Benrey and Bubby joining in with the ambush was what changed the code to have them cut off Gordon's arm.

Roronoa Zoro X CisFem Reader

"Oh ho... Aren't you a little mature to be walking around with hickeys my dear sister?" Thatch crept up on you and poked a tender spot on your neck.
"Shut it." you groaned, "He got a little carried away."
"Oo that thing is ugly, yoi." Marco added entering the kitchen.
"You guys suck." you mumbled.
"Not us, but clearly your boyfriend." Thatch chuckled.
"I hate you." you tossed a baby carrot at him.
"Awe, what kind of brother would I be if I didn't tease my favorite sister?"
"Your only sister." you sneered.
"That doesn't mean you can't be the favorite."
"If I was really the favorite you'd help me get rid of it because the second Ace sees I will never hear the end of it."
Marco took a coin out of his pocket and gently raked it across the bruised skin.
"I'm pretty sure that's an old wives tale." you commented as he stepped back.
"The swelling went down a little." Thatch sounded surprised.
"You'll have to do it a few times to make this monster go away. You should probably go put some makeup on it, yoi."
"I'll take over here." Thatch pushed you toward the door.
You went upstairs without protest to dab some concealer on your neck.
When you came back down dinner was ready and everyone was sitting at the big dining room table waiting for you. Your brothers and their girlfriends had managed to leave you a seat between Pops and Zoro. The greenette was still a little stiff from your surprising interaction earlier and adorably averted his gaze as you claimed your chair.
"It's nice of you to join us, lass." your father rumbled.
"Sorry for making you wait." you murmured as Thatch began passing bowls of sides around.
Conversation shifted to the anual Newgate Christmas party, which was one of the biggest parties of the year only second to the joint celebration of New Year's and Ace's birthday. You hadn't been to either in so long planning it was getting you excited. You just had to promise not to start a fight this time.
After dinner everyone helped clear the table and disappeared leaving you alone in the kitchen elbow deep in soapy water. It wasn't your favorite chore but you turned on some music and shuffled around making the best of it.
"I could keep digging
Provide all the things that you're missing boy
But why should I worry that I'm not enough
Say you don't like me - "
You were so absorbed in swaying and singing that you hadn't noticed anyone enter the kitchen.
"Enough to stand up and just fight me boy
Then we will both know that it's time to give up -"
He smirked watching you get more involved in the song, not having the will or the heart to interrupt.
"If I could just tell you
I've fallen in more than I care to now
It's strange, so afraid I might be in love...
Slow down, slow down
Take it from the beginning
I'm here why are you still aro-..."
As you were finishing the chorus you turned cutting yourself off in a gasp at the sight of your company.
"Zoro, shit... You scared me!" you flushed wildly and slapped his chest with a kitchen towel.
"I just came to see if you needed a hand," he had a rosy tint to his cheeks as well, "I didn't know you could sing."
"I wanted to be famous when I was a kid." you laughed, "Marco used to help me put on little talent shows at the orphanage."
He chuckled joining you at the sink while your music continued to play.
"Here, you dry," you handed him a freshly rinsed plate, "What did you want to be when you grew up?"
"Still working on that actually," he muttered, " I'm saving up to open a dojo."
"I didn't know you were into martial arts." you handed him another dish.
"Kendo." he specified, "I'm an instructor on the weekend."
"How many jobs do you have?" you couldn't help but smile imagining him teaching little kids.
"Just the three." he answered sliding the plate he had just dried into the cabinet to his right.
"I'm sure you'll have the space you need in no time, sensei." you nudged his elbow earning another light blush from the greenette.
"Maybe a couple more years."
"Let me know if you need anything. I know a lot of realtors through the company."
He nodded.
"Why didn't you try to be famous?" he glanced at you curiously.
"Things changed as I got older," you shrugged, "plus it would have crushed the old man if I didn't want to take after him."
"I'm glad we convinced him to go in there." Nami whispered as she and Al watched the two of you converse from the barely open door.
______________
It was one of the rare evenings that you had to spend with your boyfriend. You sat with your back against his chest while tattooed fingers absentmindedly fiddled with yours. He was engrossed in some medical show that you had no interest in so you let your mind wander.
Law had noticed your aloof behavior. He may not have spent much time with you, but he could tell when you were tuned out. There was also this nagging feeling of something lacking, like you just couldn't complete the connection. He assumed it was because he was always busy, and unfortunately there wasn't much he could do about that. After the first of the year he'd be taking over for the current attending.
The silence was interrupted by your ringing phone. Seeing Marco's picture flash across your screen gave you an uneasy feeling for some reason.
"Everything ok?" you didn't bother with a greeting.
"It's Pops, yoi," he breathed, "we're headed to the hospital."
"On my way!" you jumped to your feet and ended the call.
Law dropped you off at the hospital, kissing your forehead before you exited. Knowing how stressful these situations can be, especially with all of your siblings he opted to sit this one out. When you entered the emergency room waiting area your eyes immediately fell upon your younger brothers huddled in the corner.
Ace saw you first and rushed to hug you and fill you in on the situation.
"They are going to do some scans and blood work." the raven gently tugged you down to the seat between he and Sabo.
"Basically they think it has spread." the younger blonde added.
"F/N," you heard your older brother call across the room, "we need you to come back for a moment."
You trotted to him and followed him passed the double doors down a darkened corridor to a more private exam room where your father lay.
"Hospice?" Marco questioned as you entered.
"Yes," the redheaded doctor affirmed, " he's reached a stage where we would suggest professional help attend to him at least twice a week. Especially now that he has refused further treatment."
"Refused treatment?!" you all but shrieked.
Thatch shushed you and pulled you into his side, "He doesn't want to deal with the side effects anymore."
"It's now in your best interest to spend time with him and keep him comfortable." the oncologist added.
Your blurrying vision swayed to the enormous man resting quietly in the hospital bed.
"We'll d-do whate-ver he asks." you hiccupped, knowing there would be no way to change his mind.
Your brothers enveloped you while you sobbed.
"We'll admit him to get him stable over the next forty-eight hours. By the time he's released we'll have a hospice schedule mapped out for you."
After the doctors left your brothers sat you down.
"I don't think we should tell the babies." you muttered gnawing on your lip.
"They deserve to know." Thatch argued.
"They're young and they won't understand, yoi." as expected Marco took your side.
"And you know Ace when he's upset. I don't want him to shut down. If they don't know they'll go about like they always have with him." you wiped the moisture from your cheeks, "Pops would prefer that."
Thatch let out a sigh running a stressed hand through his deflated locks, "If that's what you think is best I won't argue."
After collecting yourself you went back out to tell the boys Pops would be admitted and sent them home. You sat in the waiting room a while longer fumbling with your phone. Thatch and Marco would still be a bit longer, staying to be sure paperwork was filled out and Pops was resting comfortably in his room.
Before you could stop to think about it your fingers were gliding over the keyboard on your phone.
Me: I need you.
Zoro: What's wrong? Where are you?

Teenage Squad
Any time I get into Hallie and Lance's teenage saga, it probably appears like it was only the two of them plus their friend Cal, but that wasn't at all the case - many others shaped their young lives and I actually have quite a bunch of their classmates on my mind with whom they 'ruled the school' together.
Some of them are these lads. This is just a noseless doodle but I still think they're cute. 😂 They are on their post graduation vacation here. Lance had plans to come with them but once it was certain that his pa would not survive the Summer of 2006, he dropped out and stayed home.
I mentioned Cal here and there already. His full name is Calum Hamish Fitzgibbons (*November 6th 1987) and he was a nice kid, actually. A teenager of his time, with the appropriate brush of occasional overconfidence, because he had the looks and the wit. A lot of his peers just looked up to him... literally, because at sixteen, Cal was already 6'4 ft tall (topped out at 6'7 ft). Cal wasn't bad, he was just spoiled. His parents are quite wealthy and he was used to getting whatever he wanted, without having to put in any effort. That being said, when he was pining for Hallie, he kinda just expected that she would see the light one day, but he never dared to make an actual move to win her over. Partly because he didn't see the necessity, and also because romantic feelings for a friend are an awkward thing sometimes. When she didn't just fall for him like he had hoped, and even picked his best friend over him during his absence, he was raging for several reasons. Being a bad person isn't one of them... but a male (teenage) ego is often a fragile one.
Mark McGrath (*February 7th 1987) had to repeat 8th grade and somehow started hanging out with the cool kids of the year. Mark was a cool, calm and collected fella, never as loud and obnoxious as others, but well, how do they say? Still waters run deep. Mark was the one to ask for "special favours", such as getting weed/speed/acid/whatnot. Mark knew everyone and everything. Mark was the guy one would call if they had to get rid of a body. Mark never judged. Mark just did what had to be done. Mark was... remarkable. There is not much else to say, actually... which is kinda due to the fact that not even his closer friends ever got to know him on a super deep level and just enjoyed hanging out with the easygoing guy he was.
Timothy "Tim" Irvine (*March 3rd 1988) was the good soul of the gang. Very outspoken, not shy to voice his opinions, but where others of the same age just blurted out with whatever came to their minds at the moment, Tim actually thought about what he said. True friend material, always eager to understand both sides in an argument and staying respectful, even when mad. Didn't love what Lance did behind Cal's back while they were away on vacation, but was very willing to cut his friend some slack. Was definitely not okay with the way Cal, Fozzy and Mark wanted to pay Lance back and had a little fall out with them as well. Last person of the former gang that Lance sent a message to ("I'm alright, thanks. Take care, mate!"), after the blow up, and before they all went their separate ways in late Summer 2006.
It's hard to sum up Lowell "Fozzy" Foster (* September 17th 1987) in just a few sentences... he was an experience. Not at all a bad kid either, but... well, let's just say that Fozzy's loyalty and integrity had limits, namely any time he sensed that there could be something in for him, when there was a lass he liked involved... or when doing the right thing was simply too much of a hassle. Aside from all this, Fozzy was a music freak, too, which is what always brought him and Lance back together, despite their quarrels. In the end, Fozzy enjoyed being with his friends most... even if he should've had looked up a thing or two about what friendship actually means, but well. They had all been young and dumb after all.

Some quarters on social media seem to believe very strongly that Caryl canon is coming. I want to believe them, but I see how AMC has clamped down on any promotion that features Melissa and how ten pictures of Norman are posted when someone dares to post a photo with Melissa. The title of the spin-off has a tiny subtitle for Carol which gets left out when reporters mention the show. To me, that looks like bad signs. It doesn’t look like Norman is our “ship captain” or even pro-caryl. When he likes stuff on IG, he does it to manipulate Carylers. We accept any little thing so they don’t give us anything more. Especially because people keep talking about how “we feast.” That’s not feasting. It’s Stockholm syndrome.
If Melissa isn’t featured alongside Norman in the credits, like the other women in the spin-offs, we should read that as a sign for what it is. Norman will never accept a shared spotlight. Canon means equality because they’re one unit, not a hapless hero and his sidekick. Norman wanted a showrunner who hadn’t watched the flagship! I think that’s because he didn’t want the writers to fall in love with Carol and her character development. There’s no urge to follow through on the “romantically coded beats” if the writers don’t know they exist. Regardless of what we think Melissa wants, Norman has shown us, again and again, that he is not on our side.
He used to mention Caryl in the early days, but something changed. Maybe what he was venting about in that podcast, I don’t know. Maybe it’s just that Diane is the jealous type and McReedus has insane chemistry, so he doesn’t want Caryl for that reason. I think canon is the real reason he “got rid of” Angela Kang. Say what you will about the Leah arc and her writing, but when you look at season 10, she was herding everyone towards canon. The Reaper arc screamed of Gimple and Kang even said that he rolled up his sleeves and got involved in season 11, so I think her plan for Leah was different and leading to explicit canon.
If promotion for The Book of Carol consists of Norman and other white men speaking for her and hyping things about the show that have nothing to do with Carol, please people, see that for the stubborn attempt to hold on to control that it is. These guys aren’t making a show for us, their core audience or even because they’re passionate about the story. It’s about keeping talented people out, so they can continue to remain employed.
Caryl canon in TBOC is very important for both Carol's and Daryl's stories and for gaining back fans' trust, so it's good if we keep reminding AMC what our standards are as opposed to celebrating crumbs they think they can make us accept i.e. at least Carol is alive, at least Daryl didn't get together with anyone else, at least Daryl and Carol are alone. What's also important is seeing Carol and Melissa promoted for what they are: invaluable leaders in this franchise. You are absolutely right that, so far, what AMC is showing us instead is that they allow insecure men to punish talented women and gaslight fans who threaten their vision. That's not a show I can support. I admire Carol and Melissa because they rise above everyone who puts them down. I love Caryl because they represent the light at the end of the tunnel. Gimple, Nicotero, and Zabel are 100% NOT on our side and never will be, but I need AMC and Norman to show me that they are. I need the marketing strategy to change starting this weekend and I need the show's leadership to change starting with a female showrunner who will treat Daryl and Carol, Melissa, and their fans with respect. I know you brought up a lot more to unpack, but I'll leave it there for now.
Side note: No one will be able to hold me back if Norman and Melissa aren't equally billed.

"THAT'S Bowser's Keep?!" Mallow squinted into the smoldering distance; whatever he perceived with his beady black eyes, it evidently did not impress. He frowned with a little sigh. "It's pretty crumbly now that I see it from here."
"Crumbly!" snarled Bowser. "Crumbly, he says! About my castle?"
"That's what it sounded like to me!" said Peach.
"Ghrk... well! Well!!"
Mallow turned his beady eyes towards the overgrown turtle. "Well what...?"
"D'aw, well, of course it's gonna look crumbly!" was his stellar retort. "Damn thing's got a big fuckin—"
"—language—!"
"—sorry, Princess—I mean the darn thing's got a big fuckin' envelope opener sticking out of the foyer! You know we just renovated that part of the castle? We were gonna put the new Bowser's Castle Welcome Center and Gift Shop in there," Bowser continued; while his brave face was game as usual, it would once more be stymied by the way his eyes welled up like overflowing toilets. "It was looking real good, too! Mario saw it! Yeah, you saw it didn't you? Didn't it look real good?"
The plumber nodded and gave a couple energetic bounces with his arm raised in the air; by now his traveling companions knew to interpret this as an enthusiastic yes.
"So don't gimme that crumbly crap! It's just... It's just got a boo-boo right now, okay? Eh? Oh yeah, that reminds me—oi, Geno! Oi!"
The caped creature failed to respond to Bowser's verbal hailing, forcing the testudine tyrant to resort to a more physical means of address; the well-timed punch to the shoulder not only did the intended trick, but also did roughly 8-10% AOE splash damage to the rest of the party.
"Ow!" Geno yelped and clutched his arm, thus putting paid to the question of whether or not a doll's body could feel pain (at least while occupied by the incomprehensible essence of an extraterrestrial lifeform).
"What was that for?" he begged.
"Got a question for you!"
"Great! Can you ask it without maiming us?"
"Apparently not." Bowser shrugged. "I just wanna know one thing! Whenever we fix that Stairway to Stardom thing you keep going on about—"
He paused.
And Geno waited, only a few awkward seconds before it became clear enough that that blankly blinking prompt was meant for him. "Huh...?"
"Aren't you gonna correct me and go That's Star Road like you always do?"
"I hadn't planned on it," he replied. And he really hadn't planned on it; in truth, he gave up on trying to correct everyone's constant misnomering long ago. The endeavor started to feel both pedantic and pointless, and frankly he couldn't tell which one was more grating. "Why, do you want me to say it?"
"Ghrk—! Of course I want you to say it! How the hell else am I supposed to know you're payin' attention?"
"...that's Star Road, Bowser."
"Yeah! That's more like it." He nodded, eminently satisfied. "Now. If we collect all the pieces and actually fix the Star Rail thing, that'll definitely get rid of that overgrown Ginsu knife squatting in my castle, right? Like automatically, right?"
Geno tapped his chin thoughtfully. "Mm. Now that's going to be hard to say."
"What do you mean by that...?" asked Mallow.
"I mean it's going to be impossible. Impossible to say."
Bowser growled, a promise of a threat. "Don't care much for that word, Timbertoes. Especially when it involves my castle..."
"Sorry Bowser, but I just don't know," said Geno. "So far, my experience in your world has led me to conclude that only two things are an absolute guarantee: Death, and a Toad-Mart in every village. And given the number of Dry Bones I've seen lurching around the place, I'm not so sure about the former."
Mallow resumed gawking at the castle across the chasm; crumbly as it was, the sword itself had a rather mean look about it. The hilt glared back at them hatefully, daring them to approach. The blade looked new, sharp enough to effortlessly split infinitives.
"You think we're gonna have to fight that thing, then...?" he wondered meekly.
"Well. The kid did say Death is one of this world's absolute guarantees," spat Bowser.
With these hopeful words left hanging in the air with the smoke and cinders, Mario jumped up and down a few more times, his arm raised high.

Alright, spill the deets on Consort Xing. Why is she so obsessed with booting the MC out of court? Does she have any grievances with MC's mother or something?
Speaking of the MC's mother, from what I read to understand palace drama webnovels women in the imperial harem sometimes reflected on the status of their family outside (like, while it was mostly a 'it's all on your good luck and diligent efforts to capture the emperor's attention' job, if the family of the imperial concubine was important enough it also provided a bonus in the harem and you could skip ranks accordingly) so, long story short, how's Mother's relationship with her family?
I'm so glad you asked, dear Anon! I'd love to tell you! ❤️
You are technically right about that, a lot hinges on your family and their status. But MC's mother is a unique case! ^^
Also, just so it's somewhere on this blog in case someone wants to ruin our fun later on, I don't plan on making this historically accurate! I mean, birds made of fire and dragons literally exist in this world, so I'm stretching a lot of pieces from history to make an interesting story! Also cause I don't want to write about misogyny! ^^
Under the cut, since it's long and involves a lot of drama and court politics/policies/etc!
Consort Xing Fangguo
Consort Xing is the 4th Consort of the Xiatian Kingdom. Her official title is Worthy Consort (賢妃) (off topic: the consort titles are like the only vaguely historically accurate things in the story LMAO). She is also the Consort who's given MC's father the "most" children, 6 in total. This would, theoretically, make her his favorite wife.
Consort Xing's issue isn't with MC, specifically, although she Does Not Like Consort Huo, MC's mother. She's mainly trying to improve her and her children's positions in court. All of the Consorts married the King around the same time and all, but one, got pregnant fairly quickly. The issue comes in where Consort Xing was the first consort, besides the Queen, to give the King a child. But the child was a girl, First Princess Kutuo.
Since women don't typically inherit thrones but small pieces of land, Consort Xing was pretty much moved to the side in favor of MC's mother who had MC's older brother barely a year later. That shot her (Consort Huo) status up pretty far. No to mention the Queen and MC's mother are the only two wives who had boys first. Consort Xing didn't have another child until 2 years after MC's mother had the Second Prince, which she (Consort Xing) is still bitter about.
Consort Xing has done quite a bit to secure her position. As I said earlier, she has the most children of any of the wives, which was part of her plan. The more "fertile" she is, the more "important" she is. She's also partially the reason why Consort Dou only has 3 children when everyone else has 4 or more.
But, she wants to strengthen her position and claim even more. She wants one of her children on the throne. Being Queen Dowager provides quite a bit of power.
Unlike Consort Dou or Consort Re, who are from old established nobility, Consort Xing is from new nobility. Her family doesn't have quite enough status or power as older families. The only reason she beat out the selection was because she has foreign genes, giving her blonde hair and an "exotic" appeal. By getting rid of MC, their siblings, and MC's half-siblings, it would improve her children's standing, bringing them closer to the throne.
Since Consort Xing's ambitions are pretty well known in court, she can't really hire an assassin on MC or any of their siblings, so she's, instead, trying to get them pushed out of the line of succession by marrying them off to foreign dignitaries her family finds.
TL;DR: She wants status and power for her and her kids and you're in the way.
Consort Huo Qinwen/MC's Mother
As for the relationship with Qinwen and her family, it was probably good. Qinwen is a rather unique case of becoming a consort. Unlike the other consorts, Qinwen isn't from nobility, but was rather given a noble title. She's an orphan and was raised in the palace by her foster mother. When she was old enough, she worked as a palace maid for then-Consort Chi Niexing, who quickly took a liking to her. When her son became King and she was raised to Dowager Queen, MC's grandmother gave Qinwen a small title from her family, thereby making her nobility and allowing the King to take her as a Consort. Consort Huo Qinwen is still Dowager Queen Nan's favorite consort which makes MC and their siblings her favorite grandchildren.
That being said, the relationship between Consort Huo and the other wives, minus Consort Xing, is pretty good. None really seem to mind she used to be a "commoner". Consort Re is the closest she has to a best friend and the Queen finds her company to be pleasant.

THEORIES ABOUT HOW THEY COULD FREE CELLBIT ETC
For anyone who likes walls of text 💕
Alright sooo I spent some time thinking of possible and effective ways of getting Cellbo back.
I'm guessing what they're going to do is prison break style, especially considering Forever's character, whom, bless him, is perhaps a tad impulsive.
I don't think destroying shit and searching for Cellbit is a good ideia, to be honest. That's because we have no ideia of what happened to him. He could be frozen like Felps, yes, but their situations were very different. Felps got taken away, Cellbit searched for them.
This means we have no ideia of what truly happened. He could be brainwashed, or turned into a Cucurucho/faceless worker, memory wiped, or anything else, really.
If any of these hypotesis is true, then breaking him out would not only not work, but could also bring out some pretty nasty consequences for those involved.
So here's some plans I personally came up with. They're not for breaking Cellbit out, but to bring him back. If that makes sense.
FIRST, SIMPLER PLAN, BUT NOT AS EFFECTIVE: Try to trade something for his demotion. Not forbidden items, we know that the Federation don't care as much for these.
I'm talking something more Quackity having nether blocks after killing an employee. Something along the lines of "We'll tell you where these blocks are if you fire Cellbit, in perfect conditions".
It would be a bit annoying to get these items, but with a little stealth, it could be done. But then someone would have to be aware they're at risk of getting taken out. The only way this could wrong is if the Federation simply decided to ignore it, making the whole thing pointless (and needlessly dangerous) lol.
SECOND, MORE COMPLEX AND HARD TO APPLY, BUT MORE EFFECTIVE PLAN:
Have EVERYONE break the rules. Well, not everyone, but at least more than half the server. Afterall, you can't get rid of them all. How would the Fed have a census if there's no people? More power to the people, I guess.
The problem with this plan is that it would require insane amounts of coordination and cooperation. Not only this would need a lot people online at the same time, they'd also all have to agree to put their lives at risk.
But it if could be done, all that would have to be done, would be the request: "If you don't free him (under normal conditions) we'll keep breaking the rules. If you do agree, we'll forget this ever happened".
There's some problems with this second plan, though... For example, to get as much as people as needed, they'd have to call in help from people who didn't have as much proximity to Cellbit. That's not good- because it means they'd have to be ready to possibly face harsh consequences because of a man they weren't even that close with.
The second problem being the Fed threaten the eggs (I know they never had done it before, but what if?). In which case... Yikes! Cause they'd be all fucked.
So yeah. Thats all I could come up with at the moment. Feel free to discuss or bring something interesting up, or place ur own theories in this post!

Having finally watched Breaking Bad after all these years, in part because of its resurgence in popularity on tumblr lately, I'm surprised by how often I've seen black and white interpretations of both characters and situations that seem far more gray to me...
Let's Talk Jesse Pinkman
One great example of this is Jesse Pinkman. I love Jesse - he's my favorite character and the main reason I watched the show. But the people who think he's either perfectly innocent and blameless, or a whiny, useless 'addict' are missing the point of his character imo.
Jesse definitely has more empathy and a stronger moral compass than many other characters on the show - trying to protect kids, not having a stomach for violence (most of the time), trying to get rid of his blood money in the end, etc. But he has also done objectively terrible things of his own volition as well.
Jesse's Bad Choices Unrelated to Walt
Jesse encouraged multiple people in his life (ie: Badger, Skinny Pete, and arguably Jane) to do drugs, tried to sell meth to people in recovery, and sold meth in the first place.
To be fair, I do want to point out that the people Jesse harms/enables tend to enable him as well. Such as Badger encouraging him to cook again and Skinny Pete/Combo planning to leave Jesse if he didn't give them some meth in season 1, or Jane getting him into heroin after she relapsed in large part because of his own drug use.
But while a lot of people want to blame all of Jesse's actions on Walt's manipulation, not all of the bad things Jesse does can be chalked up to Walt's toxic influence. Jesse was already cooking meth before he met Walt and was hanging with people who enabled him and vice versa (as previously mentioned). He's the one who chose to try to sell to people in recovery (and his grief/guilt over losing Jane, caused by Walt, is still not an excuse).
Jesse's Involvement in Murders Blamed on/Committed by Walt
While Walt did blackmail Jesse into cooking meth with him specifically in Season 1, which led to the confrontation with Emilio and Krazy 8, it's likely Jesse would have continued cooking on his own and gotten into a similar predicament with those two regardless of Walter's involvement (seeing as Emilio was initially pissed because he thought Jesse was the rat).
Without Walt, Jesse might not have survived that encounter with them. Instead, he brought a furious Krazy 8 and Emilio to Walt's doorstep and then encouraged Walt to kill Krazy 8 when they realized he was still alive, even though Jesse didn't want to have to kill Krazy 8 himself. We have to wonder if Jesse would have gone through with it himself if he had lost the coin toss.. So he's not entirely blameless for the very first murders Walt committed.
Then when Jesse tried to go after the two gang members who killed Andrea's brother (and Combo, indirectly), Walt saved Jesse's life by killing them first. It was that action that ultimately put Walt at risk of being killed by Gus, which then caused Walt to tell Jesse to kill Gale. Yes, he could have gone with Jesse's advice and pursued witness protection instead, but ultimately Walt was in that predicament because of Jesse's initial actions.
However, it's also fair to say Jesse was only trying to kill those gang members because they used and murdered a child. Jesse was the only one who stood up to Gus despite the risks and demanded they stop using children. So Jesse's ethical stance is what caused Walt to be in that situation in the first place. And everyone in fandom acts like Gale was perfectly innocent when, again, this was a grown ass man who willingly chose to cook a highly addictive, harmful substance. Doesn't mean Gale deserved to die, but also doesn't mean he was as innocent in all this as people act like he was. Once again showing the complexity of that particular situation.
Jesse's Continued Involvement in the Meth Trade
Jesse had multiple opportunities to try to pursue a different path in life, but chose to return to the meth business multiple times. While the car salesman job didn't work out, he still could have chosen to spin signs or try for another job. Instead, he actively sought out Walt to cook again. When Walt got out in Season 3, it was Jesse deciding to cook again that played a big role in pulling Walt back in (by threatening Walt's ego)... although tbf, he was pressured by Saul to involve Walt again.
Then after season 4, Jesse had plenty of money and could have done anything else. But yet again, he chose to cook with Walt. This time, however, there was a much greater element of guilt involved in that decision, likely feeling like he owed Walt for trying to kill him the previous season (despite being right in the end that Walt poisoned Brock). And he was a lot more broken down mentally after everything he'd been through that he seemed resigned to just doing what Walt wanted at that point.
Jesse's Self Loathing Being What Hurts Not Only Him, But Others
I did see someone point out that Jesse unfortunately misinterprets the message of his NA group and thinks acceptance means he should give into his 'dark side' by embracing what he's done and continuing to do it. His view of "I'm the bad guy" winds up serving as an excuse for him to continue harming himself and others without owning up to what he's done and realizing the purpose of acceptance is so that you can change and move on. The tragedy of his self loathing is in the many lives it harms.
However, it is fair to say Walt and other people's influence on him certainly contributes to that self loathing in the first place..
Why Jesse Isn't a Useless, Cry-baby 'Addict' Either
When it comes to Jesse's addiction, willingness to cry/show his emotions, and lack of ability to stomach the more gruesome aspects of his 'career,' some subsets of the fandom (ie: some people on reddit) think that makes him a shitty person/character. But it adds more depth and nuance to him than if he was just a stone-cold 'badass' like I imagine those fans would prefer.
I mean, do I really need to say why Jesse wearing his heart on his sleeve and wanting to avoid violence in many situations is a good thing that makes him a more sympathetic and relatable character? How it shows he never should have been in this heartless business in the first place and makes us root for him to get out of it?
As for his addiction, everything in Jesse's life is colored by this struggle - including his lack of support from his parents, rejection from society, his propensity to be berated and manipulated by the people around him (from Walt to law enforcement), his struggles with leaving the business and finding a purpose outside of it, even his decision to influence other people into relapsing.
It doesn't excuse his actions, but it does mean that he ultimately has less unconditional love and support, fewer prospects, lower self esteem, and greater challenges he needs to overcome than the average person does. All of which influence his poor decisions and make him more vulnerable to manipulation and mistreatment. People who struggle with substance abuse deserve compassion, not punishment or scorn.
Not so deep down, Jesse is just a young person looking for acceptance, approval, and purpose in life. Unfortunately, he turns to the wrong places (including drugs and people in that 'scene') for these things, which lead him to many of the bad situations he gets into. Walt especially takes advantage of that.
Yes, Walt Does Of Course Play An Important Role in The Bad Things Jesse Does and the Bad Things That Happen to Him
One way in which Walt preys on Jesse is by making him feel inferior, which I think a lot of people take at face value - therefore thinking Jesse is actually dumb. And while yes, he can be short-sighted at times and doesn't always understand the things Walt tries to explain, Jesse's also shown to have plenty ingenuity and an ability to learn. It just isn't in a traditional sense, which may have even influenced his childhood (ie: he might not have been able to live up to his parents' expectations and turned to drugs to escape the pressure).
Walt constantly cycles between berating and disingenuously hyping Jesse up whenever it suits his needs, to ultimately keep Jesse unsure of himself, dependent on Walt, and loyal to him, because Walt needs the ego boost and the tool Jesse provides.
He directly harms Jesse in many ways - pushing Jesse to work with Tuco that results in him being beaten up and having his life threatened multiple times, pushing him to confront Spooge and his wife which traumatizes him, pushing him to expand their territory which leads to Combo's death, which causes Jesse to spiral, and leads to Jane's own relapse, which then causes her to overdose and Jesse to spiral even more. Pushing Jesse to kill Gale which leads to yet another spiral, poisoning a child Jesse cares about to manipulate him into helping Walt kill Gus, gaslighting Jesse about the whole thing, killing Jesse's friend/supporter Mike, selling him out to a Nazi gang... need I continue? Walt is a piece of work who undeniably impacted Jesse's life for the worst and pushed him into doing and experiencing terrible things he likely never would have on his own.
But to act like Walt is exclusively responsible for every bad thing that happens to Jesse and that Jesse never made any bad decisions that harmed others/himself OR to act like Jesse is just some "useless junkie" who doesn't deserve any sympathy or appreciation, is really missing the point of who Jesse truly is.
This Complexity Applies to Many of the Other Characters Too
Skyler may have slept with another man and helped Walt launder his money, but she was cornered in many ways and outright abused by Walt over and over, feeling like she had few choices to keep her family together. Also I literally do not care that she slept with Ted - don't get me started on how that wasn't even wrong under the circumstances.
Hank seemed to genuinely care about and want to help Flynn more than Walt himself, but Hank was also shitty towards Marie, racist/xenophobic, punched down in every way possible (ie: hurting "junkies" and "prostitutes" instead of helping them), skirted the law when he was supposed to uphold it, and actively contributed to the harmful War on Drugs.
Saul may have been pressured into continuing to work for Walt in later seasons and was given little choice but to help him and Jesse in the first place when he feared for his life in the desert, but he actively and willfully encouraged/enabled many of the worst aspects of their business.
Jane may have had some self-serving reasons to blackmail Walt in order to get Jesse's money when Jesse was clearly uncomfortable with it, but she was under her father's thumb and wanted to live a life that wasn't controlled by him and needed Jesse to get that money so they could go off together.
Marie may have tried to support Skyler and the kids, but she also refused to see that Hank was taking advantage of Skyler by encouraging her not to get a lawyer. And she may have been nice in giving Jesse a coffee while he was at his most vulnerable, but just a couple seasons ago, she was encouraging Hank to lie about beating Jesse up. Seeing the way Hank mistreated her during his recovery and how that contributed to her kleptomania (her desire to live a different life manifesting in those scenarios) definitely made her more sympathetic than earlier in the show.
Yes, This Even Applies to Walter Unfortunately
Walt did care for Jesse deep down (in his own toxic, narcissistic way though), was understandably facing an existential crisis about what he had done with his life when forced to face his own mortality with the cancer diagnosis, and made decisions that were misunderstood by fans/other characters at times (ie: when people act like he killed Gus due to his ego, when he was mostly trying to save his and his family's lives at that point). He did go out of his way to protect Skyler, Hank, and Jesse at various times, but barely gets brownie points for that since he was often the one who put them in those situations in the first place.
And ultimately, Walt used and abused nearly everyone he cared about, actively chose to kill people even when there were alternatives, sexually assaulted his own wife, was ableist towards his own son, significantly contributed to the harmful meth trade, and chose to get into all of this mess of his own volition because of his ego/pride.
He brought suffering on everyone in his life and did it all mostly for himself - refusing to recognize his motives and the harm he had done until the very end.
Conclusion, Yo
All of which is to say, Breaking Bad is a show about complicated people in complicated situations. While some people are worse than others in both their motives and actions (*cough* Walt *cough*), no one is entirely innocent and nearly everyone has at least one moment where you can empathize with and maybe even understand to an extent where they're coming from.
Audiences even had glimpses into the depths of many side characters and even some of the most one-dimensional characters (*cough* who were usually one dimensional due to racism *cough*) at times, such as when Tuco seemed to genuinely respect his tío, or when Skinny Pete played piano expertly and both he and Badger proved their loyalty by helping Jesse evade the cops, or when we see Wendy's strength when she withstands a police interrogation for Jesse.
It's ok to like or hate a character (love Jesse and his crew, and fuck Walt and Hank, amaright?). And I really do get wanting to view these characters in a more simplistic, straightforward way. But I just think that recognizing and embracing the nuance built into these characters and the plot as a whole ultimately makes this story more interesting and enjoyable.

I wonder - and this has bothered me for a while - because it really does look like the phantom was trying to frame Clay for Starbuck's murder that never came to pass.
The case already has enough parallels to UR-1. Simon even points out that Starbuck's indictment is the inverse of his situation with Metis. Later, we find that the phantom planted Clay's fingerprints on the lighter while it was a gun. Hell, his most readily available disguise after Fulbright is Starbuck!
It really does sound like he initially intended to kill the man who survived his sabotage of HAT-1 and foiled his plans to leave the moon rock in space. But something went wrong; he must have assumed the one carrying the other astronaut out of the museum was Starbuck and killed him, only later finding out it was Clay instead. The room was dark enough and their helmets further obscured their faces, so it's reasonable he'd make that mistake.
Two problems.
1. He had a lighter on-hand. We don't know when exactly Clay's helmet was removed so that's up for debate, but it seems silly that he wouldn't have confirmed who's who by taking it off and shining the lighter.
2. WHY WOULD HE TAKE FINGERPRINTS FROM THE GUY HE JUST STABBED?! If the plan was to frame any one of the star-gazers for the crime, he would have taken prints from the one he didn't kill. Again, he has a lighter, he could confirm that fairly easily.
We know he was probably going to frame one of these two; he deliberately fired the gun when Cosmos showed up. The discovery of a gun on the scene with either of their prints would peg them as the mystery assailant. But it doesn't make sense if the one with the prints is already dead.
So we're left with two possibilities; either the phantom's an idiot, or he didn't initially intend for either man to die that day.
Again, this plan doesn't make sense if the one he took prints from karks it. Doing so intentionally with the intention of eventually presenting the bloody lighter would be, as described, make him an idiot.
It wouldn't be that bad a plan either, especially if it was Clay that was the intended scapegoat; he intentionally drugged Starbuck to help Cosmos' plan to evade the phantom go through. That combined with the bloody lighter would point to him intentionally sabotaging the mission. If Starbuck was stabbed non-fatally as assumedly intended, that would further reinforce the argument that Clay was acting with malicious intent (because again, WHY TAKE PRINTS FROM THE GUY YOU STABBED!?)
Of course, that's not how it went. Not only was Clay the stabbing victim, he died as a result and the phantom probably only found out after the fact with the autopsy report. Afterwards, his plan to destroy the rock & everyone involved in the case (not least of which Simon and Athena) fell through thanks to Tonate. That lighter was no longer a means of escape for him and he knew that Simon would get nosey if Starbuck's innocence was proven in court.
That's why he was so jumpy when Phoenix and Athena met him in the Space Station; he had no recourse and was backed into a corner thanks to a series of unfortunate events (unfortunate for him, anyways). The next best thing in his mind was to forge a slap-dash fingerprint analysis to get rid of the one person he later admitted to fearing from the first time they met since UR-1 - Athena Cykes.
With her out of the picture, there are no surviving remnants from that even that could save Simon and later expose him with the psychology report. Shame he underestimated just how driven she was to undo that event & Phoenix's turnabout bullshit that somehow always ends up being the truth.
Long story short, for this to even work out the phantom had to have not intended to kill either men in the Space Station that day. Heck, maybe he even thought to plant the remote detonator on Clay before realising his mistake.
I'm always a little wary of giving Dual Destinies a pat on the back for this sort of thing. Nothing really comes of it and we don't get to spend enough time with the phantom to see him as much more than a murder-man. This isn't Marlon Rimes inadvertently setting up the Captain's death so there isn't as much sympathy to be gained here, though I think some nuance could have been extracted from this after being built up as an inhuman monster.
Oh well.
