Still can't get over the fact that after a year (two?) with the Empire, Scorch makes commander while Boss led one of the top commando squads for three years with the Republic and never got promoted passed sergeant.

#republic commando #honestly i've got an entire headcanon regarding commandos' lack of upward mobility in the ranks #originally they were organized to serve directly under the jedi and commanders would exist in a parallel hierarchy to infantry #which they still did mostly #but after losing half their number on geonosis and realizing the jedi didn't know what to do with them they had a massive restructuring #only a couple divisions- like kenobi's -got commando squads but to ensure they were deployed properly they needed their own officers #so clones like gregor were taken from the command track and crosstrained as commandos #i imagine first gen commandos have very mixed feelings about this because suddenly outsiders are in charge of them? #and scorch and fixer and sev resent it because on one hand boss was absolutely wasted as a sergeant #on the other hand they looked at a fucking alpha-arc-desk-jockey captain maze and knew boss would be even more wasted off the field #trying to imagine scorch's reaction to his meteoric rise in rank suddenly leading hundreds of commandos and TKs and no foreseeable fieldwor #'no! how could they do this to me the great and loveable scorch!' #sev would find it hilarious that they gave scorch that much responsibility but also #he went mia as a private and now the others are all officers what the fuck #probably would've been more hilarious if scorch hadn't already been on the verge of snapping from ptsd and having abandoned a brother #and knowing fixer and boss are held hostage to keep him in line just as he knows he's a hostage to keep them in line (headcanon) #these tags are now novels #i just have a lot of thoughts about commandos okay?

Daenerys' storyline in ADWD is a good way to complexify heroic narratives without invalidating the idealism of the savior. It offers an honest portrayal of power struggle, how the oppressing class does not give up their power easily, and in order to make a revolution stick you must give the oppressed the necessary tools to keep themselves empowered, the oppressed must be able and willing to reign fire on those who seek to put them in chains again. With heroic narratives there's always an extraordinary someone saving people from certain doom and everyone is happy. the end. But with Dany there's an exploration of the aftermath. Her storyline explores her struggle of wanting to do good, on trying to keep her people safe while dealing with powerful people who seek to maintain their hierarchies. It's an exploration of what power can mean to different groups. Power can be about subjugation but it can also be a way to prevent yourself from being subjugated. The great masters would not have behaved differently if Dany had proposed gradual and peaceful reforms on slavery, because they cared first and foremost about their status as a ruling class, and that status was only possible through the exploitation of other people, because for a group to be above requires all others to be below, stepped on by those above.

I gave myself a writing challenge and I am fascinated by it

So basically I put the robins in a randomizer to give them a new order/role (because I just...kinda wanted to see what would happen + I like role-reversal AUs) and got results that are giving me a fucking brain blast.

Damian, the sidekick who was never supposed to be a sidekick but would go on to prove everyone wrong

...So this is fucking wild. I've got some ideas and several of these fit perfectly (Dick's role is pretty similar to his one in canon), but some of these are fucking INCREDIBLE to explore (Steph being the first Robin is something I never even considered but tbh I kinda love it).

I probably won't write a fic or anything because tbh I don't like publishing my writing that much, but I might expand this into a full AU and post about it. I might randomize other stuff too (ie, stuff that I cannot change vs stuff that I cannot keep the same) but this fucking rules as a starting point.

I mentioned a few months ago how I was going to make original characters inspired by Dean and Cas simply because I wanted original characters to draw for my art portfolio and it can’t be fanart.

However, despite it being a haha thing with not much thought behind it, I have developed them into full fledged characters now!

Their full names are Maxwell Clarence Charleston (Born 1830) and Jude Smith (born 1980). I’ll be making more art with them and explaining their background and story and I can’t wait to continue developing them!

Jude is an avid movie buff and loves books. He’s a big fan of old classic horror movies and collects old Hollywood memorabilia and his favorite TV show is Gunsmoke. He loves Skittles and wants to be a movie director.

Max loves being outside and during his nature walks would often collect flowers and leaves to press into his book. He’s a big science guy and loves learning new things about the world and dreams of traveling. He also really likes coffee lol.

That’s obviously not all to them, but I figure this can be their official introduction! I wanted them side by side their inspiration which is Dean and Cas of course!

I imagine I’ll be drawing these four together more lol just for fun
