Jamie would be so annoying when Roy’s reading. Like no, he has no interest in reading the same book himself. No, he has no interest in Roy reading to him and wasting that much time on it and trying to pay attention

Instead, he’s out here asking Roy annoying questions every single time he sees him reading. Which wouldn’t be as annoying if Roy wasn’t trying to read while Jamie just sat there and went “What’s that book about?” “That sounds boring” “Okay, that part sounds okay I guess” “Well what’s happening now?” “Why the fuck would anyone do that?” “Wait, what the fuck is that guy’s problem?” “What’s happening now?”

Roy tries to give him short answers in an annoyed tone but Jamie takes no hints and ignores the outright “well if you’d shut the fuck up and let me read, maybe I’d know the answer” kind of responses

But the more Jamie does it and the more often that they’re training and he’s asking about if Roy read more and about what happened, the more this genre of Jamie’s annoyingness starts to grow on him just like every other way Jamie used to annoy him

Roy likes talking about it when he’s not actively trying to read and being interrupted and then fuck him, he’ll never admit it but he starts to like being interrupted and getting to rant about characters’ stupid decisions and being validated in his disbelief by Jamie just soaking up his biased summaries and doubling down on most of his opinions and starting the stupidest fucking debates about the rest (which sometimes ends in Jamie having no fucking idea what he’s talking about and it being amusing for that reason and sometimes Jamie somehow understands a character’s motivations better than he does and Roy has an oh moment and he may or may not admit that to Jamie depending on his mood and how fed up with Jamie he is at that exact moment)

And then every once in a while, Jamie makes some fleeting reference to some book in an interview and it’s always something he hasn’t read himself but that he’s just heard about from Roy and at first it mostly flies under the radar, but eventually the public catches on to the pattern

Jamie makes some reference and later a fan makes some tweet about how he’s read their favourite book and Jamie responds with nah roy did and told me abt it

Later on, Jamie publicly calls a book his favourite despite not having actually read it because it was the most fun to talk about with Roy and he was annoyed when Roy didn’t have time to read more when he wanted to know what happened but he doesn’t give that context so for all the public knows he actually read it

But then later, he makes another comment in another interview about the same book and no one there knows enough about the book to realize he is blatantly missing some information that he would have known if he’d actually read it but later tons of people are commenting about it online and Jamie responds like roy didnt tell me abt that part

He tries to make some reference to the team trying to make some inspiring locker room speech and everyone thinks it’s great until Roy corrects Jamie’s blatant lack of awareness of how that worked out for the characters just for that to be notably less inspiring and more of a downer and now the team is distracted by how sad and unfair the book none of them has read is so Roy just sighs and lies and makes up some new events set after what he’s corrected to try to get the team back to happy and inspired from what Jamie said instead of deflated from what actually happens and they all just believe him until Sam reads the book later on and is devastated to find out that Roy made the whole happy ending up

Jamie publicly talks about another book later on that an interviewer has read and gets asked a question about it and just goes “I don’t think Roy’s gotten to that part yet” and seems completely oblivious to the confused looks he gets

And when people finally notice the pattern from the times he’s referenced something on social media or in interviews they’re like does Jamie Tartt even know how to read??? Why is every single book he ever talks about just something Roy Kent told him about??? And when people ask him about it, Jamie’s just shrugs and is like “I’m far too sexy to waste my time on reading. Roy telling me about whatever he’s reading is much faster. Roy isn’t even surprised by that because that’s one of Jamie’s go to answers he’s given every time Roy has said something like “You do realize you could just read this book yourself instead of pestering me with questions every five seconds, right?”

absurdly long tangent/analysis

EDIT FROM THE FUTURE: this isn't to dissuade anyone from interpreting the canon as they want i just wanted to share my personal opinions based on the preexisting canon that may or may not be very passionate, please just have fun do whatever you want none of this is fact

i really hate how utsuho is flanderized to death and constantly boiled down to "the dumb bird girl" because if you actually sit down and Read her dialogue instead of relying on secondhand information you learn quite a few things about her (when i say this is absurdly long i mean it so keep reading at your own risk)

extrapolating from her own dialogue:

she actually wanted to blow everything up in th11 for real and it wasnt just a "hehe whoops" kind of thing. she was bestowed an extremely powerful ability and deliberately wanted to use it to cause destruction/take over gensokyo

she is extremely knowledgeable about her ability and job (anything related to nuclear power and regulating the flames of blazing hell, or just things about former hell itself)

she takes her job very seriously and supposedly does it very well

but there are a few things that get people: she has poor memory, other characters refer to her as "birdbrained" or "empty-headed, and there are a select few instances of dialogue from hisouten/gouyoku ibun that catch peoples attention. its one of those things where because other characters (and people) say shes stupid, it influences everyone else! in my opinion, i think her own actions straight from the source are much more indicative of who she is rather than the quick judgements of other characters.

the first major point before i get into the specific dialogue in the fighting games: "kanako needed an empty-headed hell raven, and utsuho fit the bill"

what exactly is meant by "empty-headed"? this is going to be more of an abstraction, so definitely take it with a grain of salt. we dont know much about utsuho before she gained her powers, just that she worked as a lowly hell raven that helped around the palace of the earth spirits/hell. to me, it sounds like an incredibly mind-numbing job that really doesnt require much thinking to begin with, so of course you wouldn't expect some kind of supergenius from it. im also going to go out on a limb and say that utsuho was a candidate for kanako's plan because she's also considered a pet. many unfortunately conclude that pets can't be intelligent, and even the title of "pet" carries the connotation of inferiority. even if she was truly empty-headed as previously suggested, this doesn't mean that she stayed as such with no change at all. when i first played th11, i would have never guessed that she would be "the stupid one".

small note: ZUN's comment on her theme ("even a fool that possesses great power can't cause too much harm")

the problem i have with this is that she really would have caused a lot of harm if the protagonists hadn't stopped her. you could say shes a fool for letting the power get to her head, but objectively i cant exactly point to anything in th11's dialogue/scenarios that suggests she's foolish unless you really want to count bad memory-retention as such. not gonna argue this too hard, but it seems like "fool" is a word thrown around very freely with little thought to how you can actually apply it to a situation.

IN HISOUTEN: sanae beats her up and afterwards says "youre trying to help me, actually" to which utsuho is like "Oh Ok". you could argue this is probably her dumbest moment, but would you really not follow or listen to the person who defeated you in battle? its not the most defensible point, but she didnt even seem completely oblivious either when she was asking sanae about the incident. my personal interpretation is that she has a bit of a short temper related to how important her job is. there are plenty of other 2hus who are generally sillier than this, it doesnt make much sense why utsuho is the only one who gets this treatment.

IN GOUYOKU IBUN: utsuho doesnt notice reimu before she starts blasting her to bits, which to be fair reimu wears all red in Hell (her fault honestly) + correct me if im wrong but is the power of nuclear fusion not extremely blinding? supporting this, in the events of GI its also implied that shes being overworked due to the oil incident, and we already established that she takes her job very seriously, so to me it makes sense that her first thought is to "remove the contaminant" and to use a lot of her energy in the process. a lot of people in general sometimes get wrapped up in their own work to the point of hyperfocusing, i say the bird can do it too

i also havent brought up the fact that we dont exactly know wtf eating a god does to your brain, whos to say it didnt fuck with you a little bit?

past all of this though i still think utsuho is funny as hell with her particularly bold and uncaring personality, its just that people seem to think that a couple of goofy moments make up her whole character and its just mildly annoying to me.. subterranean animism will probably be my favorite portrayal of utsuho because of how seriously they all treat her (mostly) but overall i wish more touhou fans would actually indulge in the source material and think a bit deeper about this neat little piece of fiction that i am WAY too passionate about (also its just way more fun to look at characters from a complex perspective)

Hey so idk if you would know this but where did the term canyon in reference to Izzy fans come from? I feel like I just started seeing it like three days ago but everyone seems to already know what it means

lol so disclaimer that this ask has been in my inbox since september 23rd and alsoooo i might not be the best person to ask bc i am belothed by many who consider themselves part of the izzy canyon (which is their right). so if you asked an izzy fan about this you would probably get a different answer. also from what i can tell the term originated on twitter and i don’t go there.

the tl;dr that i heard secondhand from someone who identifies as izzy canyon is that at some point last year (summer or fall-ish i think) a lot of izzy fans were blocking so many people who didn’t like izzy that a lot of them ended up being unaware of general fandom trends and it became a running joke among them that izzy fans were isolated from the rest of the fandom in an "izzy canyon." and then allegedly the term expanded to just mean "if ur not a dick abt ppl liking izzy u can be in the canyon." THAT BEING SAID there are other ppl who had a very different experience with how "the canyon" originated and what kind of fan space it tends to be.

the thing with The Canyon is that to understand its origin and also why some fans have a problem with it, you gotta know two things:

there are annoying puriteen anti types on the internet who think liking certain characters make you a bad person. from what i can tell theyre mostly on twitter and tiktok. these people are annoying but also in my experience they're usually pretty easy to block and ignore.

the popularity of izzy hands is disproportionate to his narrative role in the show, and the popular fanon interpretation of izzy hands casts him not only as a principal character but as a much more sympathetic, righteous character than he is in canon. THIS DOES NOT MEAN I THINK ANYONE IS A BAD PERSON FOR LIKING IZZY. this DOES mean that i think ppl who think ed is izzy's domestic abuser are wrong. and also this is part of an age old fandom trend of fandom favoring a masc white guy who is often a side character and also often an antagonist.

so from what i can tell. in the early days of the ofmd fandom (spring-summer 2022) there was a lot of #1 going around on twitter, screaming about how if you liked izzy hands then you're a racist abuse apologist or something. at one point a throwaway account tweeted a callout for a popular izzy fan and said "we know they live in this area and work for this company, so these are the locations where they might work. everyone should call these numbers and tell their job to fire them. also we're gonna target these izzy fans next" and like, obviously this account was pretty quickly taken down. but it was a pretty scary thing and left a lot of izzy fans pretty paranoid, hence the blocking everyone who didnt like izzy.

(there was also a "izzy hater group chat" twitter account that was literally just a small group of mostly minors posting memes and also abt izzy that got accused of being connected to that whole mess. but afaict those guys have nothing to do with harassment of izzy fans they just dont like izzy)

so the thing is now that all of that has been used to justify shutting down any type of conversation about #2, or writing off anyone who posts meta about izzy that isnt like, "he works so hard and is so unappreciated despite everything he's done for ed" as an "izzy anti." analyzing izzy critically and posting this in the #izzy hands tag on tumblr is likened to genuine harassment.

oh lol and speaking of harrasment: there was also a problem with ppl on tumblr getting anon hate, and izzy fans will tell you that the anon came from an izzy hater who was targeting izzy fans bc the anon messages use "izzy critical rhetoric." however as someone who has posted "izzy critical" metas or whatever, i have actually gotten the same harassing messages accusing me of being an izzy stan and a racist abuse apologist. that's not what a targeted harassment campaign looks like. that's all been less of a problem ever since tumblr made it so you need to be logged in to an account to send anonymous messages.

anyway my stance on all of this:

i don't hate anyone for liking izzy. i am critical of certain comments/behaviors i often see from ppl who identify as izzy fans, but izzy fans are rarely the only ones who have this problem. from what i've seen tho, a lot of it comes from izzy fans.

before i ever saw even a hint of harassment against izzy fans, i saw izzy fans coming onto my posts and to posts by fans of color trying to argue that these posts were contributing to their harassment. from my perspective, it looked a lot like fans of a white character were trying to shut down conversations abt their favorite guy, especially when those conversations were being had by fans of color. i was very skeptical and oftentimes pretty dismissive abt the existence of this harassment.

since then tho ive done a pretty deep dive into the anon harassment on tumblr, and also looked at takes from different perspectives on the whole thing, and my conclusion is that there is harassment of izzy fans, however it is on the same base-level shittiness that most people experience from just... being on the internet. death threats and insults and slurs are literally just part of being on the internet. and yes, it SUCKS and it's wrong and nobody should have to put up with it, but izzy fans are not victims of specific targeted harassment. theyre victims of being on the internet and having to put up with general internet shittiness. and im sympathetic to that up until ppl start using "ive been harassed for being an izzy fan" as an excuse to be incredibly nasty (check out this tumblr acct for examples of what i mean lol). the ofmd fandom is annoying and parts of it are toxic but like, by no means is this the most toxic fandom to ever exist. we're not at "undertale fan giving out cookies with needles in them at a convention" levels just yet.

finally, tangentially related: i am inherently wary of fandom sub-groups that like, name themselves?? in my experience, the more people make being a Type Of Fan part of their identity the more it tends to lead to problems. this goes for fans who label themselves "antis" or "anti-antis" or whatever the fuck. i've personally been called an "izzy anti," an "izzy hater," and an "izzy critical fan" but like, i dont really call myself that?? it just seems weird to me idk. it gets to be very "us vs them" on default with little nuance and ive never found this kind of thing to be like, productive in fandom spaces. but that's just me.

Summary: Y/N "Rebel" Mitchell is one of the best aviators of her generation. She grew up hearing the adventures and stories of Maverick, her father, that he used as bedtime stories. She became an aviator with her best friend Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw and now both of them have to come back to the Top Gun Academy for an important mission. Only the best of the best is called for this mission, including the southern idiot called Jake "Hangman" Seresin. Both of you had hated each other since day one. Now, having to work together once more, you count the days for this mission to be over, not only to never see Hangman again, but to also cut all connections again with your father.

I tried to avoid any description of the game cause i didnt want to get too much into it. This chapter is shorter, but the next ones have several Hangmand x Rebel interactions and they'll be longer. You wake up the next morning. Eyes swollen because of all the crying. That's what happens when you get too close to the “bad guy”. You always leave with a broken heart and a face full of tears.  

You don’t have anything to do this morning, Maverick being somewhere else, so you go to the kitchen. You see Rooster munching some soggy cereal. 

“Roos?” 

“Morning, Reb” he smiles a little, eyes fixated on his breakfast. 

“Are you okay?” 

He nods absently, playing with his food. Hangman’s words are still haunting him, it seems. 

“You sure?” 

“I don’t know, Rebel. Are you okay?” he questions, his eyes never leaving the bowl. 

“Why you ask?” 

“Bob saw you leaving the locker room yesterday. He said you were crying”  

“I... talked with Hangman.” you confess, your heart aching at the thought of him. “Roos, can you look at me?” 

He lifts his head. Right now, you seem to be looking at yourself in a mirror. Rooster has been crying, too. The evidence is visible in his puffy eyes. You open your arms without saying anything, waiting for him to hug you. And he does. 

“Hangman’s an idiot. Don’t let him get to you” he says, petting your head slowly. 

“He was being nice the other day and I thought...” you choke on your own words.  

Rooster stops hugging you to look at your eyes. His eyes calm, yet full of pain.  

“Sweetheart, don’t tell me you like him”  

“It’s not that… I thought he wanted to be my friend. Then he told me that I was 'daddy's little trouble maker’” your voice breaks and the tears fall again.  

“He said you were like Mav?” he asks softly, his hand stroking your back.  

You nod and the tears fall harder.  

“Oh, sweet girl, it’s okay” he takes you in his arms, and sits with you in the sofa, cuddling you until you calm yourself and stop crying. “He was… all smiley the other day” 

“Yeah, he was really nice after the dog fight. Well, even during the dog fight. He told me to pull up” 

“He did?”  

“Yeah… he wanted to know what was happening with Maverick”  

“That’s why you were at the bar” 

“He wanted to know why I was being more reckless than usual. I don’t blame him, though. You should have seen us up there. I could have been kicked out”  

“Let’s forget about that southern diva” you laugh a little, and Rooster smiles “there’s that smile I adore. So, here's the plan. We go to Phoenix’s house, we get a lot of ice-cream, some romcoms, and we spend the morning eating our pain away. Until we have to see the pain again this afternoon”  

“Amm... I have to tell you something”  

“Oh my god, tell me you’re not pregnant”  

“Bradley Bradshaw, are you crazy?!” 

“I don’t know it sounded like that!”  

“No, idiot! They know about me and Maverick”  

“Who’s they?” Rooster has a worried expression. He knows how important is for you to be ‘anonymous’. Nepotism babies are not really well accepted. And it doesn’t matter how hard you have worked to get where you are. Once everyone knows who you are related to, probably they would never forget it.  

“Everyone”  

“Well, shit”  

“Yeah… I think that’s why Hangman was being good with me. He thought that if he was good with the instructor’s daughter…” 

“He will become team leader” ends Rooster, guessing your thoughts.  

You look at each other for a few seconds, as if you were reading the other’s mind.  

“We should eat pizza, too” says Rooster, getting up. 

“I absolutely agree”  

You both get dressed up, ready to leave to Phoenix’s house. 

 

A few hours later, Maverick called all of you to go to the Hard Deck. He said to bring “comfortable clothing”. Honestly, you’re kinda scared. 

Rooster drives you both to the bar, you see all your team mates there. Even the one that you don’t want to see. You expect to see the usual cocky smile on his face, but he’s features are full of regret. He seems to be unable to smile. You look away. Stare at him a few more seconds and you will walk to him. You can’t fall in his trap twice.  

He puts his glasses on and tries to get close to you, but Phoenix and Bob appear our of thin air and take you with them to the pool table. Rooster approaches Hangman, his hands closed in fists.  

“Look I don’t care anymore what you have to insinuate about me and my father but if you make Rebel cry one more time, I will break that disgusting face of yours”  

Hangman takes off his glasses. “Did I make her cry?”  

“You don’t know how much she tried to hide it. How much she worked on be a better, different person and not just Maverick’s daughter”  

“Rooster, I’m so-”  

“Save it. Just save it”  

Rooster walks off, leaving a confused and regretful Hangman behind. He really needs to apologize to you two.  

“Rebel”  

“Yes, Bob?”  

“You’re staring”  

You tear your gaze away from Rooster and Hangman, looking at your two friends. You have known Bob for a few days but it’s so fun to have him around.  

“Phoenix, did Rooster warn you about trying to make a move on me?”  

Phoenix starts laughing so hard that she almost falls to the floor.  

“I completely forgot about it! Oh my god, yeah, he did. But he mostly was trying to scare a certain someone”  

“Who?”  

“Hangman, of course. Did you never notice? He wanted to hit on you since the moment he saw you, but Rooster put him in his place”  

You blink. Several times. As if that could help you to process all the information you just received. Hangman having a crush on you on the academy? Yeah, sure. As if that was possible.  

“I’m gonna pretend I didn’t hear anything you just said”  

“That’ll be better”  

“Okay, y’all. Come here” says Maverick, getting close to the group. “As you might have noticed, we don’t have a lot of… team trust” 

“That’s an understatement” says Bob. 

“Today, we’re going to play a game I call dogfighting football. These are the rules”  

You try to focus on whatever Maverick is saying, but you can’t. Hangman’s eyes follow your every single movement. You push your glasses further up your nose, not wanting to let anyone see your puffy eyes. Rooster and Hangman are the team leaders, and you’re Rooster’s first choice. Even if you don’t have any idea of how to play this game.  

Once the teams are made, all of you walk to the beach. The guys take of their shirts, even Phoenix does. Rooster walks close to you.  

“Did you hear the rules?” he asks, knowing the answer before you even say it. 

“Nope” 

“You have one task then” his smile makes you nervous.  

“Say it” 

“You have to tackle Bag man”  

You smirk, taking of your t-shirt and adjusting your sports bra.  

“Bring it on”  

Both teams get on their positions, ready to begin the first match. You can feel Hangman’s eyes on you, roaming over your body. You feel a bit conscious under his stare, impossible not to compare your body with his. His body looked carved by the gods. Muscular, strong arms glistening under a fine layer of sweat, hard rock abdominals that crave to be touched, and the dark-haired trail in his belly that goes all the way down to-  

Stop. Stop right there. You're mad at Hangman, don’t thirst over him.  

“Hey Hangman” you call him.  

“Yes?” he seems surprised that you’re talking to him. Honestly, you’re as well.  

“Want a photo? It’ll last longer”  

He chuckles. You’re supposed to be mad. What it’s wrong with you? It’s like you want to stay mad at him but seeing his stupidly gorgeous face makes you want to talk to him. He raises his head, ready to answer. 

“Give me a photo if I win. I’ll put in on my cockpit” 

“And what if I win? What’s in for me?”  

“Whatever you want”  

“Careful, Hangman. Those words can come back and bite you in the ass”  

He smiles. A genuine, heartfelt smile. It makes your knees weak.  

“Let’s just hope they don’t” 

You have fun during the match. It feels good to be normal human being for a few hours, rather than just a naval aviator. It feels like… playing in the backyard of Iceman’s house on Thanksgiving, waiting for dinner. Hearing your friends laugh, dance in victory when winning, hugging... Nobody is keeping score. You’re just friends having fun.  

Slowly, a feeling of belonging, safety and comfortability fills your heart. For the first time in many years, you feel like home. And it seems that some quarrels are becoming less important, Rooster even helping Maverick get off the sand. You smile a little at the sight, wishing that someday the three of you can turn back to be the loving family that you’ve always been.  

On the last match of the day, you see Hangman ready to pass the ball to Coyote and you run towards him, tackling him. The two of you fall to the ground, a huffing sound leaving Hangman’s mouth when you land on top of him.  

“I think I deserved that” he admits in a whisper.  

“Oh, you totally did.”  

His hands are on your back. The burning of his skin against yours makes you remember the night at the bar. This time it’s ten times stronger. You should get up, but something is pulling you towards him like a magnet.  

“I’m sorry, Rebel. I shouldn’t have said what I said” he lets his head fall in the sand, looking at the sky, the angle allowing you to see part of his eyes under the sunglasses. You shouldn’t forgive him. People don’t change, you should know that by now. But it’s impossible for you to hold a grudge against him, it seems. “And for the record. You’re nothing like Maverick. You’re ten times prettier”  

“You think I’m pretty?”  

“I don’t think you are. I know”  

You get up, against your will, because you can see the glances of the rest of the team. Holding out your hand for Hangman, you decide that it’s time to be the bigger person.  

“I accept your apology, Hangman. But you’ll have to gain my forgiveness”  

He takes your hand, getting up quickly, but not letting go of your hand. He brushes his thumb over your knuckles, sending goosebumps all the way down to your feet.  

“Yes ma’am”  

You let go of his hand and turn around, just in time to see Bob catching the ball that Rooster had thrown. Everyone cheers for him.  

“Seems like I won” you say, smiling and walking towards the rest.  

“What a shame. I wanted that photo” he laughs.  

“Okay guys, listen up. I think Hangman’s having a stroke” says Natasha, making you choke on your beer. You look at Hangman, sitting next to you in one of the benches, who seems to not have a clue of what the brunette is referring to.  

“Why would you say that?” asks the man in question.  

“You’ve been smiling like an idiot for hours. And I mean a proper smile, no whatever it is that you have on a daily basis” she says, making the whole team cackle. 

You laugh out loud, getting up to get another drink.

You walk to the bar, waiting for Penny to take your order. It’s been a good day and you’re ending it with your friends and some fresh drinks. You wish all days could be like this.  

“I apologized to Rooster”  

You turn your head towards Hangman, catching you by surprise. You can see in his face that he’s telling the truth. He’s making amendments to obtain your forgiveness. You can feel your heart beat faster.  

“When?”  

“After the match, when you went with Phoenix to change clothes. I know it’s gonna take time, but I hope we can overcome all this. I was an asshole”  

“Took you long enough, cowboy” you snort while laughing.  

“What can I say? Better late than ever” he moves closer to you, beaming. “So, what’s gonna be?” 

You tilt your head slightly, frowning. “What are you talking about?”  

“The bet. I wanted a picture but you won and you didn’t tell me what you wanted” 

“Oh! I completely forgot” you say, folding your arms over your chest. What do you want?  

You look around the bar, thinking what can you possibly get from Hangman. Your eyes land in a golden object hanging from the ceiling and you smirk.  

“You said whatever I wanted, right?” he nods, and you hold your open hand in front of him. “Give me your phone” 

He seems confused but grabs his phone from his pocket and leaves it in your hand.  

“With this, my dear arrogant cowboy, you can consider yourself forgiven” you say, leaving the phone on the bar. “Penny, my dear, ring that bell!”  

Penny looks at you, seeing Hangman’s phone on the bar, and rings the bell. The whole bar cheers and some people get close to order more drinks.  

“You did not” he says, completely flabbergasted.  

“Oh, but I did” you retort back. Penny leaves the drinks and you grab half of them, going with the rest of your team.  

You can’t notice but Hangman follows you, a glowing smile on his face and a silly heart beating faster every time you turn around to make sure he’s following.  

That’s when he knows he’s ready to fight for you, even if he has to get on his knees and pray for forgiveness.

yknow the whole hetch (really weird name honestly) betraying ranboo. like. originally i assumed the person sending out "rogue frequencies" and the bypass of their system was done by hetch and that the person in the keynote vidoe (not the showfall media, the other one) was hetch. and like. it still could be but. why would they go to all that trouble? and according to the second special announcement they quite literally had to modify the interactive elements.

so. what was the point? it certainly wasnt meant to make hetch more convincing to ranboo as he saw NONE of it. was it meant to make hetch more convincing to the audience? but why would they need to do that? the audience cannot interfere with the social experiments as long as showfall doesnt let them do so. was it to put on a better show? and let me remind you, hetch almost INSTANTLY got the audience suspicious as soon as he needed to make up an excuse as to why ranboo couldnt leave.

and those notes under the posters. hetch didnt mention them. hetch doesnt claim responsibility for any of that stuff so im like.

actually, lets review the info we've seen about these mysterious person trying to interfere with showfalls plans and if anything seems to contradict them being hetch, or implies it.

specifically, let's go over the special keynote first

so, this person, they, as implied, are either 1. sending out a signal, or following one ("Where is this signal going?") but by their later line, when they finally like. actually connect instead of just glitching the screen and words they say ("Is this working?") seems to imply number 1 is whats happening.

afterwards they state that they dont have much time, and dont know what's going on, which feels like a contrast to hetch pretending to know a lot about whats going on, and the inner workings of showfall (he does acttually know i know im just saying with how he acts with ranboo) . and the next thing..

"I don't know what you are"

which feels.. hetch acts familiar with the audience. he knows about them and presumably knows what we are. its also quite literally on the on the site, that while showfall is adjusting to this new domain, they do seemingly know what they're doing here. and let me specifically highlight the specific phrasing. they say they dont know what we are. not who we are. what. which is like. a whole different level of unfamiliarity.

they then go on to say that it already found him (over ranboo's missing posters.) and says it got everyone but them. now this has several lore implications if you think this person is being honest but we're going to focus on how this seems to imply they're a part of the group , unlike hetch who refers to sneeg as "your friend" not our. which since sneeg is quite literally called the taken and is probably one of the people in the "everyone", so thereotically. sneeg shouldnt just be ranboos friend in that case.

they then declare that they have to save them and stop this.

so tldr of that whole reviewing the special keynote, several things that this person says, are discrepancies when compared with how hetch acts which could imply there is actually someone working against showfall entertainment.

another note, when that person connects with us, instead of it just glitching and such, it just. pauses the video until theyre done.

ANYWAYS

this makes the whole hetch plot thing feel like. theres an actual motivation for doing so. which it could just be entertainment yes but . there are now the possibilities its also to: conceal this persons activities. if its just another part of the show it makes showfall seem more unchallengable. and two. if ranboo manages to remember what happened LAST time, he will be far more inclined to not trust this person if they ever try and contact him.

so. that was my rant hope you liked it.

No one I know has seen this movie and It wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be and I’m upset

Has anyone seen that movie Fanfic on netflix? Its a polish movie so it has english dub which is how I watched it. So take this into consideration with my opinion on it. Maybe its exceptional in polish idk.

The writing is so bad but it had so much going for it :(

As the title suggests, there’s a reference to fanfiction, what it can do for its readers and the people who write it. But that’s all. A Reference. Its not really something that we focus on throughout the movie and I actually forgot that this is what the movie was supposed to be about halfway through until they throw it back in there at the end for some reason. 

We’re following our main character, an alternative looking teenager with a cool edgy shag cut that hates their life and their parent and uses their fanfiction writing as a form of escapism. They see themselves as a rockstar, dating the character of their dreams, living a life they could never live. I get it I get it seems cool.

But its weird because, the life that our main character is escaping tbh doesnt seem that bad. I mean sure they are unhappy, don’t get along with their father, but also they basically go to euphoria high school so they get to go to all these cool warehouse raves with their huge group of friends all the time? Thats not so bad. Its truly silly like, our character will be out with their large group of friends to this bonfire that they didnt have to go to if they didnt want to but for some reason they brought their laptop with them to write fanfiction. ( how their laptop battery can survive all this I dont know im jealous)

And they see a therapist who seems to be genuinely interested in helping them deal with their emotions in a way that isnt just yelling at people, but alas the world is against them all the time of course. I think what really makes this character not work for me is that there is no internal dialogue? There is initially, like in the first couple minutes of the movie but then they just decided actually nvm? and from then on I just have to guess the main characters thought process and feelings from some longing stares. 

I kept watching despite how much I didn’t like this main character only because the show is nice to watch tbh its pretty. And then I got even more sad because our character finds out that theyre trans. 

Now i just want to like this movie even more right???? But how they find out theyre trans is truly silly. I’m nonbinary and do consider myself trans, sure I dont know everyones experience... but also has anyone ever just decided to put on a pair of jeans, a t shirt, and a jacket and then decided they got the wrong gender? Because our main character does. Its not like he was in drag or something thats just a comfortable outfit for any gender? Have they never been allowed to wear pants before???? I just dont understand. 

The rest of the movie is not that exciting just kind of finding themselves with a love interest who shows up every now and again and isnt too exciting. This movie feels like something that was made to be a show but some higher up said nah so they smashed in to an hour and a half. Why are the characters so flat. Why is our main character the worst in a way thats not intentional? Why cant they wear pants until they find out theyre a boy? 

Am I a girl when I wear mini skirt and a boy when I wear pants?

Also who is our main characters hair stylist I liked his hair before he cut if off I want that please and thank you.

i love hearing about original species, so is there anything about amalthea or zizi's that you wanted to talk about but didnt get a chance to in guardian's? :o

i appreciate you askin'!

in any case, i'm very much not a worldbuilding-first kind of creator, the kind that has entire sprawling universes in the background of their works and then builds stories to only encompasse a tiny sliver. my stories come first, and my characters and their world are built to service that story. A lot of this is because i'm building this myself with not much external help, so i only write what i know will be useful to the end goal. I've seen what happens to stories that balloon out of proportion like a decomposing corpse full of gasses (LOOKIN' AT YOU HOMESTUCK).

For example, I needed characters that would be easy to draw over and over again, which ruled out supremely alien-looking aliens. But that's okay, because this isn't a story about speculative biology and never was. The alienness of the characters is just a literary tool.

Amalthea more easily integrates into human society and the roles asked of him, so he can be even more humanoid than Zizi-- all that's weird about him is that he has 4 fucked up eyes, and when he wants to seem more human he can just close 2 of them. Zizi however can't hide their fangs, ears, tail, and paws. My mom said she didn't quite understand why Zizi was referred to through insectoid biology terms despite looking mammalian, but that disconnection is part of the point. Assumptions being made about Zizi and having those assumptions be challenged is part of the story.

Why are Amalthea and Zizi aliens? Why is the US overtly an imperial power? Why does it take place in 1993? Because a story about an orphaned child of color being pressured to testify against the cult they were raised in by the social worker assigned to their case in 2023 would not be a more boring story, but it would be a far more painful and difficult read-- perhaps so difficult and painful that it would scare away the very people it was trying to connect with and comfort. Dissociation is a powerful tool-- the science fiction element of the guardian's dilemma allows for people to approach the feelings and experiences the book posits without having it too closely connected to their own.

This dissociative element of the work is also why Zizi speaks extensively about their abuse but very very little of it is described directly. What exactly they experienced is said mostly through allusion and omission. If you look closely you can make some informed guesses of what I the author might've had in mind, but to make a definitive call on What Abuse Looks Like To Zizi would lessen the effect. It's more important to me that my audience-- most of whom have experienced trauma if not abuse-- is allowed to infer their own experiences and see them reflected in Zizi, rather than me making an authoritative, canonizing call.

all this also keeps the door to this world open for me in case i ever want to revisit it, and i honestly just might. i like these two characters a lot and GD already was a bit shorter than i would have wanted! so who knows what the future holds

I got so many asks on the topic of Taehyung and Hyoshin after the one I answered yesterday that I decided it made more sense to make one big post about it rather than posting a whole bunch of different asks, some of which have unique ideas but similar sentiments.

Yeahh, that’s definitely quite a bit older than Taehyung!  Again, some people are willing to do that, and maybe Taehyung is one of them!  But it definitely makes the whole thing seem less likely to me.

I agree honestly.  It doesn’t seem likely that Hyoshin would even know about Taehyung’s fan emojis, and even if he did, would he use them to refer to someone he’s genuinely close to?  Seems a little unlikely imo.

I believe Jungkook posted the cover very shortly after Taehyung posted the clip of himself with Hyoshin, like within a handful of days.  All of this happened on Instagram, so it was right around the time I was first getting really into BTS, so I saw it happening but wasn’t as invested at the time lol.  I think Hyoshin posted his stories with the tiger emoji maybe as much as a few weeks before Taehyung posted his story where he was with Hyoshin, and then JK posted his cover of Hyoshin’s song shortly after that.  Tae’s story and Jungkook’s cover happened closely enough together that I was a little suspicious at the time about why that might be.  Personally, I wondered if maybe Jungkook had been meeting up with Hyoshin along with Taehyung, but it’s all speculation.

taeshin anon, i could say the same about wooshik and taehyung frankly. They both looked pretty cozy in that one photo after both of them came back from golfing. Or taehyung and the stylist (?) on his story. He looked like he was giving him heart eyes. Or what about him and his bodyguard? At this point, u could say he is dating all of them or none of them. If BH didnt care enough to give a statement or in your words “damage control” on taennie, why would they do damage control on taeshin, a non-threatening same sex couple?

Yeah I won’t lie, Taehyung has pretty big boyfriend energy with a lot of people.  I mean, the man has chemistry with Jin when he wants to.  Nothing against Jin, I adore him, but he simply does not have that, Taehyung has enough for both of them.  I’m sure it’s not always intentional, but I’m also sure he can turn it on when he wants to -- it’s definitely not what sets apart his relationship with Jungkook, you know?

As for damage control from Big Hit, all I can do is guess at what circumstances motivate them, but I’m willing to bet a small smattering of fans talking about how Taehyung might be dating Hyoshin -- mostly, I want to point out, as a way to slap down Taekookers -- is not something that would light the coals under their feet.

Right, I think that if anything, people being less sure about Taekook could only be a good thing, from the company’s perspective.  I can’t imagine them doing any kind of damage control just to try to satisfy Taekookers, whether there’s anything actually going on between Taehyung and Jungkook or not.

You know how we love to analyze TK's every move, every post, every interaction, right? Welll now I want to analyze Taeshin because I am genuinely curious about these 2. I am feeling something whenever I see them together that I never felt when Tae is with Wooshik or his other male friends. I don't know if it was because I have read that Hyoshin may be gay? With Tae's latest IG post, I am starting to wonder if TK have broken up (IF they were even together in the first place). I mean, we all know it was always himself, JK, and Tan on his feed. Heck he doesn't even post the member or Wooga photos on his feed, only on story. Now he suddenly posted photo of himself with Hyoshin (the same one Hyoshin posted on his IG) plus a video  entitled "Thinking About Your Body" plus the caption "current state/update". I really want to know your thoughts on this. Sorry if this is too long. Just need to let it out.

First of all, definitely don’t worry about sending something too long!  I mean look at this post.  If anyone says too much on here, it’s me.

As for my take on Taehyung posting his photo with Hyoshin on his Insta account -- specifically the feed rather than just in a story -- the long and short of it is that I genuinely don’t see it as a very big deal.

I get that a lot of people see it as very significant that Jungkook was the only fully-pictured person on Taehyung’s feed other than himself, and I certainly do see significance in that post too, but it was the context of the post that gave it significance.  Part of the context is that it took Tae this long to post anyone else, sure, but does all of that go away because more then seven months later he finally posted a photo with another person?

For me, it doesn’t.  For me, what made Tae’s and JK’s photos of each other seem significant were these things:

1) They both posted them within just a few days of getting their accounts

2) They posted them in the same format (a photo alone in the first slide, and then a photo together in the second) within a day of each other

For Jungkook it seemed extra significant as time went on because he didn’t really post much at all.  For Taehyung, the extra significance came from the fact that even though he was posting pretty consistently, he wasn’t really posting anyone else.  Note, though, that neither of them posted each other on their feeds again.  It was like they wanted each other on there early on, but after that, JK didn’t post about Tae again, and Tae only posted Jungkook on his stories (I know there’s the production photo of their call sheet, but that one has never seemed especially telling to me, at least in comparison to the others).

Did the significance of those original photos disappear when Jungkook deleted his entire feed?  I didn’t think so.  And so, in the same way, I don’t feel like Tae posting a photo with another person diminishes the potential meaning of his photo with Jungkook.

I wouldn’t expect someone to literally never post photos of their friends, you know?  That just seems like a weird expectation to me.

As for the idea that Tae could be potentially involved with Hyoshin now after possibly breaking up with Jungkook, I think that’s specifically unlikely given the way Jungkook was clinging to Tae in the photos from the Busan World Expo event thing yesterday.

If there was something going on between Taeshin, I’d be much, much more inclined to think that Taehyung and Jungkook must just be super weird friends rather than that they’ve broken up sometime in, I don’t know, the last two weeks?  They’re just not acting like people who have gone through a recent breakup.

There’s always the chance, of course, that Jungkook and Taehyung have never been together and that Tae is currently involved with Hyoshin.  If I was looking at their interactions in a vacuum, sure, I could see the argument for Taeshin.  Like I’ve been saying, Taehyung brings the chemistry to his interactions with people.  In a vacuum, I could believe he was dating just about anyone.

Just like with Jennie, though, I don’t feel like I’ve seen remotely enough between Taehyung and Hyoshin to rival what I’ve seen between Taehyung and Jungkook.  One snippet of an interaction and one photo together backstage at an event isn’t enough to make an entire relationship, you know?

That’s not to say it’s impossible, just that it’s really hard for me to think there’s something going on between Tae and literally anyone else when I’ve seen years’ worth of content where he’s gazing adoringly at Jungkook, talking constantly about Jungkook, getting sat on by Jungkook, etc. etc.

When it comes down to it, one Instagram post can’t -- at least for me -- make or break my concept of an entire relationship (I mean, unless the post said, “Hey I’m dating this person” in the caption).  That means that the presence of Hyoshin on Tae’s page doesn’t make me think they’re dating any more than the sole presence of Jungkook on the same page previously meant that Tae was dating him, no matter how much significance the context might have given that post.

All right lol, that’s me on Taeshin, I guess.  I see the chemistry, and there’s always the possibility that there really is something going on there, but in the wake of the absolute tidal wave of evidence that I feel supports Taekook, it’s hard to take a couple of little Insta posts that seriously.

You know he came to tell him Jimmy joined Davis n main. That’s the only real reason for him to show up. He didn’t want to upset chuck. But in the same way. He came there for Jimmy I feel like. He came there to be like. Look what your brother can do when your not stopping him. Hehe. And he also brings up Kim’s help. The only help he wanted was chucks tho. I’m playing the show again! Not To Imply Nicky Was Shakespeare’s Fair Youth But Ive Read The Fair Youth Sonnets & Nicky Was Definitely Shakespeare’s Fair Youth, an essay by me, tumblr user crim wickedpact

background knowledge: our man shakespeare wrote some 120 sonnets about a young man referred to as the Fair Youth during the mid 1590s; there has been some debate among shakespeare enthusiasts whether shakespeare’s interest in the Fair Youth was platonic or romantic (but like. they were definitely romantic). no one knows for sure who the Fair Youth was, but it was definitely nicky and my first and most important piece of evidence regarding this hypothesis is the ‘lmao babe do you remember that guy who had a crush on me?’/ ‘i try not to remember the guy who had a crush on you’ look joe and nicky exchange when Merrick brings up shakespeare during the movie. especially since gina confirmed in a tweet that joe and nicky canonly did know shakespeare

my second piece of evidence is that it just Works (except for a couple small facts like.. the Fair Youth was prolly closer to his 20s than his 30s. and the fact that shakespeare implies that the Fair Youth slept with his mistress at one point. but he doesnt know what hes talking about shhh we IGNORE)

A. The Description Matches

when describing the Fair Youth (who I’ll call the FY from now on), shakespeare says he has a ‘gold complexion’ and ‘beautiful eyes’ and compares him to a ‘summer’s day’. He says the FY has “A woman’s gentle heart" and “An eye more bright than [women’s are], (...) Gilding the object whereupon [they] gazeth”

As much as shakespeare’s perceptions of sexuality and gender are very........  late 1500′s (whoo boy sonnet #20 is a wild ride) ...... the description does match, and also:

  B. The Fair Youth Refused to Get Married

it’s never really said why one way or another (shakespeare assumes it’s because the FY is selfish) but the FY didn’t/wouldn’t take on a wife and have a kid, and this was something that was a real sticker for our man Willy S. because, as he says in his sonnets a million times: beauty doesn’t last forever, but having a child not only passes down the FY’s beauty, but also blesses the woman the FY would have a child with (im not saying shakespeare wanted to bear the FY’s children, but he definitely did)

Whose fresh repair if now thou not renewest, Thou dost beguile the world, unbless some mother. For where is she so fair whose uneared womb Disdains the tillage of thy husbandry?

(ie. If you don’t renew yourself/ have children, you deprive the world and deprive a woman from having your child, since what woman out there is so beautiful that she wouldn’t want to bear your child?)

Like.

1.) if nicky is the FY then so many of these poems center around the idea of nicky growing old sometime soon and that must have been pretty funny to Nicky and

2.)  the fact that shakespeare would have been So Desperate for nicky to find a wife must have been the opposite of funny to joe. considering the ease of his and nicky’s relationship and the fact that being gay in late 1500s england was probably not a walk in the park, it is very likely shakespeare wouldn’t have known they were in a committed relationship-- or at least not known how close they actually were. Thus:

  C. The Rival (aka. Joe)

shakespeare mentions having a poetic rival in regards to the FY in several sonnets. In sonnet #21 he talks about how he’s not like Those Other Writers who use grand metaphors to talk about their muses

So is it not with me as with that Muse, Stirred by a painted beauty to his verse, Who heaven itself for ornament doth use And every fair with his fair doth rehearse, Making a couplement of proud compare With sun and moon, with earth and sea's rich gems, With April's first-born flowers, and all things rare,

(ie. I’m not like other poets who, when inspired by a ‘painted beauty’ use heaven and every other beautiful thing on the planet to make a grand comparison to their muse: he specifically lists the sun and moon as examples as well as other beautiful things)

He then goes on to say

And then believe me, my love is as fair As any mother's child, though not so bright As those gold candles fixed in heaven's air:

(ie. my love [the FY] is as beautiful as any other beautiful person, though I wouldn’t compare them to the stars/heavens (which is what he means by the 'gold candles’. those are stars.))

So shakespeare insults poets who compare their subjects to the sun, moon, and stars (amongst other things) and in the comics, Joe does literally exactly that

That man is the stars in my sky, and the sun that lights my days. That man is the moon when I'm lost in darkness, and warmth when I shiver in cold.

shakespeare also goes on to say in the same sonnet “Let them say more that like of hearsay well / I will not praise that purpose not to sell” which is to say ‘let people who like that kind of language use it, I wont because I don’t want anyone else to have the subject of my affections (the FY)’.

(which is a bit of a contradiction regarding his feelings abt the FY getting married, but these sonnets are full of contradictions. shakespeare was a confused dude; man spent the first 100 or so sonnets convinced the FY loved him back only for him to start wondering if the FY ever loved him near the end)

(not to mention Marriage For Love wasnt really.. much of a thing in Ye Olden Times but thats a different conversation. so shakespeare prolly didnt associate marriage with love/competition? anyways)

Shakesy-boo goes on to complain about this rival several times. In #79, he says

Yet what of thee thy poet doth invent He robs thee of, and pays it thee again. He lends thee virtue, and he stole that word From thy behaviour; beauty doth he give, And found it in thy cheek: he can afford No praise to thee, but what in thee doth live.

(ie. everything ‘your poet’ (as the FY apparently favored this unnamed rival) says about you, he takes it from you in the first place. he talks about your virtue, but learned the word from watching your behavior. he calls you beautiful but only discovered beauty by looking at your face. every compliment he gives you he took from you in the first place)

[and, as a smaller example, he also bemoans the fact that people want to paint the FY in #67, saying, “Why should false painting imitate his cheek, / And steal dead seeming of his living hue?”. and yknow. Joe’s an artist.]

And then another example in #86

Was it the proud full sail of [the rival’s] great verse, Bound for the prize of all too precious you, That did my ripe thoughts in my brain inhearse, Making their tomb the womb wherein they grew?

Was it his spirit, by spirits taught to write Above a mortal pitch, that struck me dead?

(ie. he’s talking about how he’s having difficulty writing abt the FY and is rhetorically asking if ‘the proud sail’ of the rival’s verses was the reason his ‘ripe thoughts’ were killed in their ‘womb’. He then asks (again rhetorically) if it was the rival’s ‘spirit’ (or creativity, maybe) ‘’’‘by spirits taught to write’’’’ that killed his own drive to write. none of the analyses I’ve read really explain what shakespeare means by ‘spirits taught to write’, other than maybe being a joke or reference to something we dont know, but... ‘taught by dead people to write in a way mortal people can’t’ very much sounds like a description of an immortal poet, eh?)

Which brings me to,

  D. Willy Boy Thinks There Are 500 Year Old Writings About the Fair Youth

shakespeare talks about people having written about the FY ‘500 years ago’ from the late 1500s in #59 which......................... would have been around 1100 AD. :thinking face:

Oh that record could with a backward look, Even of five hundred courses of the sun, Show me your image in some antique book, Since mind at first in character was done, That I might see what the old world could say To this composed wonder of your frame;

(ie. Oh if I could look back 500 years and see how you were described in some old books so I could see/reference what people used to write about you)

Which again brings me to,

  E. I’m Not Saying shakespeare Stole From Joe, But:

1.) In #22, shakespeare says this,

For all that beauty that doth cover thee, Is but the seemly raiment of my heart, Which in thy breast doth live, as thine in me: 

(ie, your beauty is due to the ‘clothes’ my heart gives you-- probably means something like ‘you’re beautiful because i love you’. goes on to say his heart lives in the FY’s chest, and the FY’s heart lives in shakespeare’s chest)

so: shakespeare tells the FY he has shakespeare’s heart. in comparison, Joe calls nicky ‘my heart’ in the comics...... :thinking face x2:

2.) In #109, shakespeare tells the FY ‘thou art my all’,

For nothing this wide universe I call, Save thou, my rose, in it thou art my all.

which rings similar to Joe’s ‘he’s all and he’s more’ as well as (from the comics) ‘he is my everything’

and just saying. joe looks pretty #done the mention of shakespeare.

  F. The last One

Despite shakespeare writing 30+ poems about the FY eventually growing old, the very last poem he writes about/for the FY says,

O thou, my lovely boy, who in thy power Dost hold Time's fickle glass, his sickle hour; Who hast by waning grown, and therein showest Thy lovers withering, as thy sweet self growest. 

(ie. you [the FY] have power over the ‘mirror’ (fickle glass) of time as well as time’s ‘harvesting’ ability (sickle hour) and as you grow older, you remain beautiful while your lovers [shakespeare] wither and grow old)

The transition from ‘get married and have a baby before you get old!!!!’ in #1-20 to talking about the FY’s presence in 500 y/o books in #59 to admitting the FY isn’t growing old in #126 kinda seems to imply shakespeare learning of/about nicky’s immortality at some point, and this last poem is him accepting it.

TLDR: not only does it make perfect sense if nicky was the Fair Youth from the FY sonnets, but it also makes perfect sense if joe was the Rival from the FY sonnets. its canon nothing will convince me otherwise

Hello im a Tommy enthusiast who watched that one stream where he monologued to foolish for like hafe an hour bc i heard it was a cool stream or wtv to realize how much amazing character moments it had that barly anyone in this damn fandom is talking about so ill fucking do it

The conversation starts off with foolish and tommy mining for Wilbur, and foolish questions how simply mining will solve the problem to which Tommy reponds with "they dont get solved, do they? It just ends uo with some madman screaming 'Hes solved it!' And now look at him." And how he wants to "prevent the problem before it goes outta hand" something that clearly references Wilbur and his destruction of lmanburg, which paired with him collecting stone for Wilbur as the way to stop said problems he believes if he does anything he can for Wilbur and support him by his side enough this time around, that he wont do anything like thay again, which as im writing this makes be realize by doing that we learn hes blaming himself for what happened to Wilbur in November 16th and pogtopia and a whole, by not being enough for Wilbur in his mind.

The conversation continues, foolish off hand asks why would tommy want to stop Wilbur? Weren't they friends at some point? To which tommy leads foolish to lmanburg and tells him the story of the nation (how it was him and Wilbur's nation, how they made it to espace dream's iron fist and how they held an election "which puts your life on the line, which is good- if you're confident but- perhaps we were too confident", how they lost)

Tommy: "You know the phrase: 'treat other how you wanna be treated', foolish? People dont ever listen to it. Wilbur- he decided he wanted to be treated poorly so he treated everyone around him poorly "

This Tommy quote, to me at least, so so amazingly strong in conveying how understanding he is? To the world around him. Like-

I have not seen one person bring this quote up, and yet its (at least to me) shows such growth and understanding in Tommy i saw little to nothing like it in other streams. It shows he understands, he knew Wilbur didnt change just because, he knows he was struggling, that he thought everyone around him were againt him, were going to abandon him the first chance theyll get- and he thought he deserved it. So he, as a last way to defend himself against that, hurt them first, abandoned them first, so theyll see how much of a 'bad' person he was and take him out- and tommy saw right through that, possibly understanding it more after exile.

This next qoute was talked about much more but i still wanna bring it up

Tommy: "Oh, no I don't really believe that its not really a thing for me foolish its just that-" *sigh* "- i believe everyone has a little bit of good in then and this is not about giving him a second chance or a third chance- its not about *chances* foolish. Its about not giving up on the poeple you care about. "

Which. I mean. I dont know how healthy that mindset is, but comign from Tommy it makes so much sense.

Techno, tubbo, eret, sapnap. These are all people Tommy used to be extremely close to, had either a war or had been betrayed by them, and yet still found it in his heart that he still cares for them, with all of these, they did horrendous things, that hurt tommy physically and mentally, while also not being once or twice, but a contentious thing, but while tommy is to this day still effected by their actions he still found it in himself to forgive, because he knows he fucked up too, a lot, and he knoes they learned from their mistakes just as he had (except c!techno FUCKKK c!techno mf doesnt learn SHITTT) and he knows, when the time comes he knows hed want the people he hurt to forgive him too. (And he wants Wilbur to do the same)

Next qoute i will cut to a couple parts because its really so good and full of character i had to bro

Foolish: "Do you consider yourself to be the good guy or the bad guy?"

Tommy: "It really depends who you ask, isn't it? Yknow? If you asked dream he'd say im *his little toy that he plays with* you know? It doesnt.."

This part really stunned me when i first heard it because, and correct me If im wrong, but i dont think tommy ever acknowledged how dream sees him, and  how right he has his viewpoint too. Just the fact tommy is so *painfully* aware of how dream doesnt even see him as a person anymore but just a toy to mess around with for a while than just throw it away when it get too boring really hurt me. Someone give this kid a hug

(Continued) Tommy: "...foolish, honestly? I used to consider myself 'the good guy', you know? The fuckin'- second in command! But these past- these past like six months or so, foolish, everything got so much harder than it was before. Because before it was just us vs bad guys, it was all so clear! But- its not been 'clear' for so long, right? It wasn't; 'these are the bad guys! These are the good guys!' Now it's : 'he's doing this and it makes him a bit worse-' i mean, it all got so complicated, so- i don't know. Depends who you ask."

He says this, in response to foolish asking if hes a good guy- but its awfully similar to if Wilbur asked him if they were the bad guys. Because foolish just asked about him, and yet in his answer tommy made sure to keep using the words "us, he's, guys" as if hes not really talking about himself, as if hes explaining how Wilbur was wrong. Which he was. Also something interesting ive noticed, he says "the last 6 months or so", which indicated that with Wilbur he knew better to follow his word and leadership- with Wilbur he was always on the right side but when he lost him he felt much more lost alone, and couldn't trust himself enough to be on the "right side" .

Foolish: "I dont know, it all seems strange because just from, you know- hearing from others and, you know, learing a little bit, its seems like you've been the hero, you've been the villain, the conqueror, the savior, and, even now, i have no idea what you exactly are."

Tommy: "that's up to you to decide, isn't it? Im just- *uh*  i dont know. These days, foolish, I'm a little weaker than i used to be"

Foolish couldn't be more right with what he said, another example of this we see where a character acknowledges tommy never sticks to one thing us Charlie when calling him "tommy fron nowhere" which shows more how he cant stick to one thing, during the course of him on the server he had been friends and enemy with nearly everyone, been on pretty much all sides, and while never really intentionally, being in the center of conflict. When foolish says he doesnt know who tommy is anymroe at this point and all Tommy says in return is that "hes a little weaker than he used to be" does to show he misses who he used to be, with lmanburg, with Wilbur, when he knew who he was, now he doesn't know who he is anymore, but still so desperately want to be more demonstrated by the lines coming rigth after that one:

(Continued) Tommy: "..I'm not- I'm now who i want to be, but-"

Foolish: "Being honest with you, Tommy, that's the same case for me as well."

Tommy: "...heres the thing, foolish, unlike you i dont really have a choice. I have to try and be who i want to be, because if i dont, very bad things are gonna happen in this server. And now that Wilbur's back i can't- quite frankly *no one* can risk that. So i dont really have a choice."

Tommy want's to change- he wants to be better than he is now, to be closer to who he used to be, no matter how impossible that might be, but he also sees it as an immediate thing, he wants to change now, or asap, which is why hes collecting stone for Wilbur in the first place- old him would've done that with ease just because Wilbur asked and he wants to have that back so badly, asap. The way he talked about this reminded me of when he tried getting over his trauma stream before he went in the prison to kill dream: he knew he wasnt the best but he tried getting over that asap to go kill dream asap. He didnt wanna take the long road of years of healing and instead thought he could get over it just like that, and that experience clearly didnt teach him anything because now hes trying to slide back to the relationship he and Wilbur used to have and ignoring the drastic changes they both had plus the bad moments that were the reason they feel out in the first place, or maybe he knows, but at this point, after everything that happened to him and the server, he doesnt care anymore? He knows hes not the same he was and he'll never be the same, because thats not how it works, but his mentor, president, big brother is back after so long tommy felt so lost and alone he thinks maybe, this time around, with Wilbur, he could try and be better again.
