I got a job to fill the empty hours of my friends ignoring texts to hangout

I got it to save up for college, but now where's my noisy head at

It's at the door to my room

Creaking open as my cat wanders in

It's at the number I blocked

A number I used to call my best friend

It's at the Karen yelling at my coworker

Whom I have no choice but to deal with

It's at the pounding of my heart

As I list the pros and cons of working here

"Why do I stay?" I ask myself

Over and over, "why do I stay"

Why do I stay?

Because I don't know where else to go

Because I get paid well

Exhaustion follows after every shift

Three hours, four hours, eight

Never off on time

Always home late

Eight-hour shifts turning into ten

Too tired for homework

Too tired for chores

Too tired to workout

And yet I still do

That is reality

That is working a fast food 9-5
