The Media and Trump: A Dangerous Symbiotic Relationship
The media and Trump have undeniably played significant roles in shaping the political landscape and the state of democracy. However, their relationship has been far from constructive. In this article, we will explore the reasons behind Trump's reluctance to join debates and the media's failure to challenge him effectively. Both parties have contributed to the erosion of democracy, and it is crucial to address these issues head-on.
The Media's Love for Sensationalism:
The media, like a train wreck, thrives on chaos and sensationalism. Unfortunately, this has resulted in a focus on the negative aspects of humanity, neglecting the importance of highlighting the good. This trend has been decades in the making, with the media capitalizing on the ideal time in history to sow doubt in the minds of the vulnerable and neglected. Government, business, industry, and individuals have all played a role in perpetuating this cycle in the pursuit of power, money, and control.
Wealth Disparity and Questionable Leadership:
It is disheartening to witness the immense wealth disparity in our society, with a small percentage of the population holding more wealth than 90% of Americans. This raises questions about how unqualified, unpatriotic, and questionable individuals have been placed in positions of authority and influence by governments. Both sides of the political spectrum are to blame for this, as Trump himself acknowledged the Republican party's susceptibility to manipulation.
The Power of Ratings:
Trump has tapped into the power of ratings, which has become the lifeblood of media and the root of all evil. While money may be the driving force, it needs the soil of ratings to thrive. The media has inadvertently fueled the rise of Trump and those who aspire to be like him. As long as his antics bring in ratings, the media will continue to air them, perpetuating the cycle of train wrecks. This symbiotic relationship has allowed Trump to make a mockery of everything he touches, further endangering democracy and our way of life.
The Need for Media Course Correction:
The media, in all its forms, could have been a true ally for democracy. However, it has chosen chaos, misinformation, propaganda, disinformation, deception, and manipulation over truth, justice, the rule of law, ethics, and morality. It is disheartening to see that the media has nearly given up on humanity. The urgent question now is whether the media can course correct. Can it challenge those who have declared war on our democracy? Can it stop the ship from sinking, a ship for which it has drilled holes?
A Call for Serious and Adult Conversations:
While getting Trump to the debate stage may provide some entertainment, it is essential to challenge all those who are destroying our country and democracy. Blame falls on both sides, and it is time for a no-nonsense, in-your-face conversation about implementing real change and improving the lives of all citizens. Foolishness will not be tolerated. The media and the American people are ready to meet any challenges head-on. It is time to act, and the choice is yours, America.

The media and Trump have had a detrimental impact on democracy. Their symbiotic relationship, fueled by sensationalism and ratings, has contributed to the erosion of truth, justice, and ethical journalism. It is crucial for the media to course correct and prioritize the values that underpin a healthy democracy. Glenn Sloggett has built a unique and insightful body of work documenting the parts of the city no-one wants to think about: the streets of the suburban underclass. As an artist, he is drawn to the dysfunctional and the dispossessed, and, in particular, to the last glimmers of dogged hope that linger amid the ashes of the most dismal situation. He frames and celebrates the things we would rather turn away from. There is no nostalgia here, just the forward plod of life without expectations. Here, beauty lies not in the roses (which are diseased) or the wedding dress (which is cast off) or the Pavlova (which is NQR: not quite right), but in the tenacity of an underclass who keep going while their world is crumbling around them. And at the end, there is a pink hearse that promises ‘BUDGET BURIALS – Cheaper & Deeper!!’

Australia Has A Tax System Which Unfairly Taxes The Working Poor
The newly amended Stage 3 tax cuts are making headlines at the moment. Political point scoring about broken promises has been less effective than usual. Perhaps the cost of living crisis and the unfairness of the tax regime may have something to do with that. Australia has a tax system which unfairly taxes the working poor rather than the wealthy. The LNP Coalition under the aegis of former PM Scott Morrison wanted to accentuate that even further via the regressive stage 3 tax cuts for the highest earning Australians. Their federal replacement, the Albanese Labor government amended those tax cuts to be shared more broadly with middle Australia.

Ordinary Australians Pay The Most Via Income Tax
Despite this relatively good news for the working poor the tax burden remains unfairly skewed in favour of the wealthy. The capital gains tax omission on the family home no matter the value of the designated home means billionaires can squirrel away untold millions via this measure. Family trusts are another tax minimisation way for the wealthy to avoid paying taxation in Australia. Superannuation in Australia has been another bolthole for the seriously rich to avoid tax on their wealth. Income tax is the workhorse of the taxation system in this country and the burden falls most heavily on those that can afford it least.

Why Doesn’t Australia Tax Fossil Fuel Corporations Properly?
In Australia we subsidise large multinational fossil fuel corporations and mining companies by lessening their tax burden for some strange reason. State and federal governments cut lucrative deals for these big companies. One wonders why? Few other nations around the globe make it so financially attractive for these multinationals to extract their profitable resources. Australia, unlike many other places offers a stable and friendly environment in which to mine. Australia is the third largest exporter of energy resources in the world. Our LPG gas is fuelling Japan and many other nations. Our petroleum rent tax brings in bugger all in the greater scheme of things, especially when compared to similar schemes elsewhere. It is as if some of our people have cut deals to benefit themselves at the expense of what could be raised for the nation as a whole.

Richard Denniss, the chief economist at the Australia Institute, recently presented a speech on tax at the National Press Club. He made these observations about our tax system and the unfair burden it places on ordinary workers. It seems in Australia we have allowed our politicians to rig a tax regime favouring the wealthy and the big end of town. Could this be a result of lobbying by the fossil fuel industry and political donations to our two major political parties? If you look at the records you will see the fossil fuel sector is the most active lobby group and the biggest political donor.
“Four of the nation’s biggest fossil fuels companies paid over 13,000 times more in “donations” to the major political parties last financial year than they collectively paid in taxes in 2020-21. Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) data released this morning shows Chevron, Santos, Whitehaven Coal and Woodside together made $390,930 in political “donations” to the ALP and the Liberal and National parties last financial year.”

Australians Being Screwed By Vested Interests
It is pretty bloody obvious that we are being screwed by a process tainting our governments and without recourse to proper oversight or remedy. Governments and the current political system are failing us. Meanwhile, the smokescreen of cultural warfare and the politics of grievance continues. Neocons beat up emotive narratives about Australia Day merchandise not being available in Woolworths and misplaced corporate conscience regarding the colonial invasion of the continent on that day. More inflammatory is the war in Gaza and the accusations of rampant antisemitism by anyone standing up for the Palestinian’s right to exist. Of course, the Palestinian people are in fact Semitic themselves. The protest against genocide by the Israel state is anti- Zionist if a label is required. Over in America the GOP are virulently anti-woke, attacking LGBTQIA folk and their right to exist. The culture wars hide the real stuff going on, which is the control of our governments by big money. Corporate dollars get politicians re-elected and they are, therefore, beholden to the donors and their interests. Our tax system reflects this relationship.

Until we effectively ban all corporate and private donations to political parties we will continue to be at the mercy of their power and influence. One citizen, one vote does not work if the democratic system is being undermined by large political donations by wealthy folk and corporations. Big money is always the loudest voice in the room. The unfair nature of our current taxation regime is proof positive of that. Australia has a tax system which unfairly taxes the working poor rather than the wealthy.

The CBS crew spent nine months filming Harvest of Shame, travelling from Florida to New Jersey to California. They filmed in rundown labor camps and talked to workers in the fields. Many of the migrants were from Belle Glade, Fla., a town whose motto is "Her soil is her fortune." For the generations of workers who've spent gruelling hours on the soil — or "muck" — those fortunes have been meagre.

Dear Followers and Potential Clients,
I hope this post finds you and yours in good health and high spirits. Today, I write to you with a sense of urgency and a call to action. Our democracy, our rule of law, and our way of life are under threat, and it is imperative that we unite in the face of this unprecedented challenge. I invite you to join me on a journey of enlightenment and empowerment through my SubStack articles, aptly titled "Overcoming Unprecedented."
In the wake of the recent events surrounding former President Donald Trump, it has become abundantly clear that our democracy is at a crossroads. The incitement of an insurrection, the erosion of trust in our institutions, and the blatant disregard for the principles that our nation was built upon are all alarming signs of a system in crisis. How can a court acknowledge his role in inciting an insurrection, yet allow him to remain on the ballot in 2024? This contradiction demands our attention and action.
The Constitution, a document that has guided our nation for centuries, may at times be open to interpretation. However, when it comes to the threat posed by Trump and his followers, it is unequivocally clear. We cannot allow a man who has shown such disregard for our democracy to continue to hold power. It is our duty as citizens to hold our elected officials accountable and demand that they take action.
But this fight is not just about Trump. It is about the larger forces at play that have allowed him to rise to power and maintain a grip on our political landscape. It is about the corruption, manipulation, and deception that have infiltrated our institutions. It is about the fear that has silenced those who should be standing up for what is right. It is about the erosion of our values and the need to reclaim them.
Through my SubStack articles, I aim to shed light on these issues and provide a platform for meaningful dialogue and action. I will delve into the complexities of our democracy, the flaws in our legal system, and the importance of holding those in power accountable. Something to think about....🤔
What if you were a single parent with a child . You work full time for $14.00 hr. You bring home roughly $800 .00 per paycheck (bi-weekly).
Your bills:
$1, 000.00 / rent
$150.00 / electrical
$250.00 / car payment
$150.00 / car insurance
So let’s do the math :
You bring home about
$1,600.00 a month & your bills average about $1,550.00 (give or take).
You’re making it, but barely.
This doesn't even include groceries, internet, cable, cell phone, etc .
(nor does it include child tax credit, or child support)
Now, it’s a really cold December and you get a power bill for $600.00
How do you pay that?
To put it simply , you don’t.
Because you can’t.
So your power gets shut off.
But you know what your lease says?
It says you get evicted if your utilities are terminated.
So now you’re in court crying to a judge who doesn’t care, & you have 10 days to get out.
Well you’re in luck, because you found somewhere with 3 days to spare & it’s only $650.00 a month!
But to get in, you must pass a background & credit check. Which you can’t because you just got evicted.
You’ve never been a criminal, but even if you could pass it, you’re looking at $1300 to move in, after paying the deposit & first month’s rent.
Time’s up ....
Landlord shows up at 7am with the police & changed your locks.
So, now you’re living in your car with your 7 year old son & everything you need to get by.
You tried to get a storage unit, but you don’t have a billing address so they won’t sell one to you. So you could only take what would fit in your backseat.
You pay to shower at local truck stops & eat whatever can be cooked in a gas station microwave.Someone sees you & your son living like this & calls C.P.S; guess what happens next ? ? ?
They remove your child from your care.
As if this isn’t devastating enough, you lose your job too. (Because “an employee losing their child reflects poorly on this company .”)
So now, you apply for an apartment with the region where the waiting list is 3-7 years.
Then you go into Wal-Mart to put in an application.
When you get back to your car you see that your back window has been smashed & someone helped themselves to your belongings. Remember that it is December & really cold. Now you have damage to your only shelter.
You call your car insurance, who says your deductible is $1,000.00
~ AND ~ they’re going to increase your monthly rate since you’re now
“ high risk .”
You call the homeless shelter as a last resort & all their beds are full.
I’ll stop here .....
Because I think you get the point .
The people we work with everyday are these people .
WE ARE THESE PEOPLE .
We are all so close to #homelessness & don’t even realize it .
All it takes is :
* one unexpected bill📃~
* one fender bender🚙💥🚗~
* one lay-off 📊~
* one house fire 🏠🔥 , etc.
Instead of talking trash about people who are poor , homeless , or need assistance , why don’t you try being grateful that you’re not in their shoes ...... YET !
This is about staying humble & being kind .
