Chapter 221 Trivia

I hope you like Stanley, because this is mostly about Stanley.

Once again we have Stanley represented as the knight. Sure Xeno was his original princess (even if he denies it), but now his princess seems to be the rocket.

Will Stanley get a fairy tale ending?

Xeno obviously wants to keep up his act as a villain, but Ryusui is denying him the privilege.

Stanley's original criteria for revival were loosely based on society being up and running, which is now the case as Ryusui mentions here. Like they'd agreed earlier, what Stanley did was considered justifiable acts of warfare and thus they trust him as a soldier.

Stanley and Xeno are both said to be 180 cm tall on their character files, yet in this picture there's clearly a height difference.

Obviously, the only explanation for this is so that Stanley could fondly tilt Xeno's head up towards him in the following pages.

Stan's new outfit makes him look less imposing and inhuman than his previous one, and instead mimics the buttons on the the front of a double-breasted military jacket.

The double "V" of his belt buckles could be the zig-zag of the American clothing, or it's two halves of an X.

Stanley's scar is still here, but it's changed slightly: the line across the bridge of his nose is gone.

However it may fully disappear soon, since he'll be petrified on the rocket. This change will likely mark his atonement.

This is a brand new lighter based off the one Stanley had before they got petrified. For most of the Americas arc he simply used matches, apart from the "gag" lighter that looks like his handgun.

The math checks out.

This is, in fact, Stanley and Senku's first conversation (if you can even call this one).

Before now, Senku's never allowed Stanley to get close enough, and they never communicated directly over the radios either.

All Ryusui has wanted since he was a child was to make one of his models a reality and to pilot it himself, along with the help of his brother Sai.

Now, he's forced to sacrifice that dream for the greater good.

Sai knows this, which is why he's shown in the same room Ryusui was (across the table from him? In the same seat? It doesn't seem to be the same window, but the rocket is aligned the same.)

It looks like Stan does say the exact same thing: "dekiru ne", which literally translates to "I can". The "ne" at the end is used as a form of agreement, similar to saying "right?" in English. I sort of wish it was translated the same...

My fave marauders ships and dynamics as a multi-shipper !! Ok so, there are certain ships I like to imagine as canon in the canon universe, and there are other ships that I prefer in aus and such but still ship them so much!! So I thought I’d just ramble abt them here lol.

My fave ships that are canon/I think I should be endgame:

First off, Jily ofc. My loves. I’m generally not super excited abt str8 couples but they’re just too cute. My fave dynamic with them is that they’re academic rivals — well at least lily thinks they are, James is just hopelessly in love with her and enjoys competition lol. Lily thinks he’s an idiot, immature and a bit of a bully at first but slowly warms up to him as she sees his kind-heartedness and stance on justice. Plus, she’s always found him a little hot :)

Wolfstar, duh. I don’t think I have to go into detail coz I already do so much on my blog lol.

Dorlene — aaah I love my tragic, angsty lil lesbians. Sucker for the quidditch-rivals-to-lovers trope. Ooh and i headcanon Dorcas as transfem. But yeah if you’ve read ‘the hands that feeds’ by rollercoasterwords that’s basically how I see their dynamic.

Fralice — cuties and did not deserve the ending they got ;((

Rosekiller — ok, ok. I know I’ve ranted abt how I don’t like the fanonization of their characters in fandom,, but I will admit I do like them together. Especially when they’re depicted as the awful people they are lol. I like to think that they’re still hooking up in GoF on nights where barty’s poly juice wears off lmaoo. Also random but I hc Barty to be in ravenclaw.

Pandora x Xenophillius (idk how to spell his name) — I like to imagine Pandora as a goth who runs an underground magical weed business and Xeno as a hippie weirdo and conspiracy theorist. Both are bi/pan tho and have def hooked up with ppl of the same gender before.

Andromeda x Ted Tonks — iconic. Love them. Andy was the og rebellious black family child.

Emmary — love, love this ship. For context, I picture Emmaline as a little older than Mary (maybe 2 or 3 years) and they meet when Em’s at the order. Mary’s a bisexual girlie who’s predominantly been with men at this point, and Em’s a big Butch lesbian who loves Mary so much but isn’t sure if Mary likes her back, at first. Ofc they end up together after the first war but when Em wants to join the second war, Mary oblivates herself and retreats to the muggle world entirely because she cannot bear more pain.

My fave ships that I like to think are semi-canon, as in their unrequited, or right person wrong time, or both have feelings that the other doesn’t know — they just don’t workout for some reason:

First off, Marylene — my absolute fave, right person, wrong time ship. Love the whole, ‘Marlene loved her too early, Mary loved her too late idea’. I’m a sucker for best friends to lovers ahhh. I imagine that Marls had crush on Mary since they were eleven and came out to her later, and although Mary was supportive she didn’t like her back at that point. Then Marls got with Dorcas and maybe Mary got a tad bit jealous. And then Marlene was killed ofc so Mary moved on and went with Emmaline, but she never really stopped loving Marlene.

Nobleflower — bi narcissa and Alice rights!! I like to think that they had a bit of a homoerotic friendship back in their hogwarts years, but the fact that they were on opposite sides eventually pulled them apart. And so Alice gets with Frank and Narcissa with Malfoy. Aaah so tragic I love them

Lily x Remus — I like to think Lily had a little crush on Remus when they were younger but she got over it and they became besties !!

Bellatrix / Lady Zabini — Toxic murder comphet lesbians!! Tho I imagine they ‘broke up’ their fling coz Bellatrix was murdering with pure blood fascism in mind,,, and lady Zabini was just like,, why can’t we just kill ppl for the sake of killing them?? 🥺🥺

Jegulus — ok so I don’t like jegulus as a canon(ish) ship, buuut I love me some unrequited jegulus, specifically from Regulus’ side coz sorry I just personally don’t see James ever liking Reg in canon. I imagine Reg goes into hogwarts wanting to hate the guy who stole his brother but ends up falling for him just the same. He has internalised homophobia and hates the fact that he’s gay, esp for someone like James lol.

Bartylus — My hc is that neither of them liked each other romantically, but they settled and got off each other to pass time. It’s transactional, at least it’s starts off being..maybe barty’s a little more into it than reg thinks they are.

Peter/Bertha Jorkins — I like to imagine they dated for awhile during hogwarts — until Bertha got bored of him and dumped him. Peter never really got over it and was still bitter.

Peter/Sybil — oooh I remember this one was trending on marauders tik tok awhile back but I’m still not over it. Happens after Bertha/Peter. Sybil breaks up with Peter maybe coz she gets a prophecy that he becomes evil. Peter is confused and heartbroken.

Snily — ok hear me out!! I don’t care for their portrayals in a lot of fics coz I think the pro / anti Snape bias is always there — but I would be open to exploring the complexity of their dynamic in a fic when snapes actions aren’t justified or excused, but he’s not portrayed as a one dimensional bad guy. And I think it would be interesting to explore more of Lily’s character and why she stuck by him so long.

Ok, now onto ships that I only enjoy in aus:

Marylily/macevans — by far my fave ship in aus. Best friends to lovers >>>> also half the marauders edits saved on my phone are marylily edits lmaoo they’re just so cute!!

Jegulus — requited this time!! If it’s an au and James is not reduced to a generic sunshine people pleasing character, then they’re a little cute I’ll admit. Not the biggest fan of the 'best friend's brother' trope but the drama is entertaining at least.

Mary/Dorcas — I don’t think they’re a very popular on here but I personally like it. In a way they’re opposites but they’re motivations are a lot more similar than they realise.

Pandalily — so, so cute. Fanart is spectacular

Dorlily — so academic rivals to lovers coded

Prongsfoot — specifically in aus where James and Sirius are on opposing sides, for example, slytherin!Sirius au

Wolfstarbucks — James and sirius share everything!! Including their lovers apparently. Mostly enjoy it as a crack ship tho.

The Void Crawler - A Lancer "Dungeon"

I’m working on a “dungeon crawl” style Lancer module. I’ll be posting each “level” to the “dungeon” later, but here’s an introduction of sorts.

The HA Void Crawler. Despite the name and Harrison Armory's history of violence, the ship is a research vessel. The Void Crawl and her crew where sanctioned to explore the galaxy outside of known Union space and find potential livable planets to colonized. While this particular survey has been tainted by the Corpo-State's particular culture of nationalism, the greater Union views this effort as an ultimately good thing for humanity as a whole.

The Void Crawler went dark a few weeks ago.

Now a derelict caught in the orbit of a massive gas giant, all that your employers know is that whatever caused the vessel to be abandoned happened fast and it happened without warning.

None of the missing crew has been found. Early scans indicate that many of the ships systems such as life support and engines have not been destroyed, but have simply been turned off.

The powers that be have turned their gaze on the Void Crawler. Some wish to figure out what happened to the hundreds of lives loss in this mysterious accident. Other's wish to capitalize on the materials and data that this ship have hidden in it's cold halls.

You are a lancer. You have been hired by one of the five manufactures to venture to the Void Crawler and achieve their objective.

As Union's right hand megacorp, General Massive Systems has graciously put it upon themselves to find the missing crewmen and either save them, or avenge them. And of course the data that HA has collected will benefit all of Union, so it would be the kind thing to do is for GMS to bring it back home free of charge.

ISP-Northstar and it's close ally Albatross have a long history of anti-piracy actions, and the this situation has pirates written all over it. A quick strike should bring whatever material and data lost to be put into the right hands.

A popular rumor to what happened to the Void Crawler is that the vessel had run foul with aliens. While most organizations laugh off this theory as omninet forum conspiracy and HORUS memetic manipulation, Smith-Shimano Corpo has not written it off yet. When seeking to perfect the original machine, the human body, maybe xeno DNA is the key.

Regardless of who has hired you, the pay is the same. Lots of manna, a license in a mech of your choice, a genetic backup to be cloned incase of untimely passing. It has to be high, it's going to take at least ten years to get to the derelict.

In the shadowed alleys and glittering high-rises of this peculiar metropolis, the term "human-type entity" is used in hushed whispers to refer to those uncanny beings that walk among the populace wearing human guises. They may look like your neighbor, your barista, or the unassuming office worker in the cubicle next to yours - but beneath that carefully crafted veneer of normalcy lies something unmistakably other.

Many of these entities are refugees or expatriates from strange realms beyond the veil of mundane reality. Places with names like the Gossamer Reaches, Hex-Nail Underworld, or the Shimmering Interstices between dimensions. Some are exiles, fleeing persecution or ancient blood-feuds. Others are here by choice, drawn to the neon allure and ceaseless buzz of mortal life in the big city. A rare few were even born here, hybrids with one foot in the mythic and one in the mundane.

Outwardly, a human-type entity appears no different from a baseline Homo sapiens. Two arms, two legs, one head - all the standard equipment in the usual places. They sweat, bleed, and bruise just like any other city-dweller. But spend enough time around one and you may start to notice the little tells. An odd sheen to the eyes, a double-jointed fluidity of motion, teeth a bit too sharp to be natural. When angered, their skin may ripple with bioluminescent patterns or tiny thorns. Their laughter has an eerie, ululating resonance.

Inwardly is where the radical differences become apparent. Psychic MRIs (a hush-hush procedure conducted only by The Agency's extradimensional med-techs) reveal brain structures and neurochemistry vastly divergent from humans. Clusters of neural tissue that shouldn't be possible, glands secreting peptides that don't show up on any periodic table, nerve bundles that terminate in microscopic event horizons.

Some manifest superhuman aptitudes - a "Gray Collar" who can calculate complex algorithms in their head, a back-alley surgeon with intimate knowledge of xeno-anatomies, a demure librarian who reads at a page a second and never forgets a word. Others wield innate magic they call "Miracles" - a fiery-eyed dockworker who can heft shipping containers, an unaging lounge singer with a mesmerizing voice, a beat cop who heals with a touch.

All this strangeness is cloaked behind the Masquerade, a vast conspiracy of secrecy upheld by the human-types themselves, by The Agency that monitors them, and by the megalithic corporations who find them useful. To the average citizen, they are invisible - just more faces in the crowd. Only those who know how to spot the signs (or who are foolish enough to go looking) discover that "human" is a rather flexible category…

So when you pass a stranger on the rain-slick sidewalks of Neon City and feel the hairs on your neck prickle, when the dry cleaner returns your suit with an odor of brimstone and alien spices, when your co-worker casually references the Siege of Vys during a meeting, pay attention. The human-type entities walk among us, and once you start to perceive them, there's no going back. The real question is, why are they here - and what do they want?

He Is the Messiah!

...Or prophet, whatever, but I found it funny the sheer amount of room intrusions Euden has to deal with that kick off events.

Like, there's Chronos, to which he's either too sleepy to care about or desperate or too used to random dragons of his invading that he isn't all that panicked after the initial 'who's there' at having a little dragon promising time travel to him in his room. You know, as one does.

In fact, he's rather quick to just kinda go 'okay, and?' at Chronos instantly pointing out all those deep regrets and how he keeps it separate from everyone, which might be kinda creepy in a 'how do you know that?' sort of way.

Fittingly, Rage of Chronos kicks off in a similar way, though Euden definitely seems to be a bit more shy to strange voices in his room spewing odd things at night, but still not quite the level of hostility I would expect.

Also, in retrospect, Grimnir was kinda speedrunning the main plot there in his opening monologue!

"Child borne of the rift 'twixt fates" could be a reference to his true true origins as a part of Xenos since Xenos likes floating about the rift between worlds and Euden was floating about there, too, since both Morsayati and Xenos were. "Inheritor of altered life"...yeah, that too, since he's a nice mixture of baby blood and still-living demon lord flesh plus whatever other things Finlorda might have decided to throw in the BuildaHeir pot.

"Blood-sworn yet bloodless", well, he's pactbound with the dragonblood he did inherit from baby!Nedrick, but has no true 'bloodline' as a standard human would. Lastly, "mutation in causality's design" might be a reference to the fact that this world's Euden is explicitly an anomaly how he's gotten so far for any number of reasons. Then, later, there's the 'transfigured prince', which either might just be Grimnir referencing his shapeshifting or the fact he's a hunk of demon flesh coaxed to look like Nedrick if he were a healthy normal human baby.

Darn, Grimnir, why couldn't you have spoke in plain English a bit sooner? Rage of Chronos came out in April 2021. At latest, that's the first part of chapter 19 that was out! I do not know if they were actually planning the entire monologue to be so relevant, since I think I recall the three writers for Dragalia largely worked separately on their own arcs, but that's uncanny. Very uncanny. All that in two sentences.

That aside, he's still a bit too nonchalant. Nothing like hearing that dramatic monologue and just rolling over and going back to sleep.

Neither of these times were the first, either.

Skyborne Spectacle, for example, starts with Euden having a dream vivid enough and concerning enough that he gets the gang to go to a presumably distant Peng Lai, likely more at the eastern shore of South Grastea since Taiwu is out east too and it's a former colony. Or as Notte puts it: "Heck, we actually came here in the first place because we were warned to do so in some spooky dream."

Imagine that conversation. "Hey guys, I had a dream that this one town on the other side of the continent is in trouble. Mind checking it out just to be sure? ...No, I don't think I'm paranoid. I know it sounds like I am, though."

Imagine the reputation all these kind of things spark, even just the one time, since goodness knows Notte was more than happy to parade around the fact that they were here because of a dream. Sure, sure, there may have been more 'mundane' magic at hand since Xu Fu was purposefully trying to reach him, but details tend to get caught up in the mix. All the average townsfolk probably hear is that this one band of New Alberians came to town because their leader 'had a dream of disaster' coincidentally around their New Year's celebrations and was right.

Perhaps there was some good old conspiracy theories popping up that the Prince was clairvoyant or a prophet like Verica or something and that's how New Alberia's been kicking against all odds for so long! Why settle with one prophet when you can have MORE?!

Honestly, I could almost see this bringing its own sort of trouble to Euden. He seems prone to nightmares, a tendency that even carried over to the comics (though they generally featured more...benign? nightmares of Celliera transforming Luca into TooBuff!Luca). What are the odds that this dream isn't indicative of a problem, provided that it isn't over something that was based in the past and already occurred? That's a fast track to needless anxiety and stress right there.

Even aside from that, having anyone honestly think you're able to predict the future is its own nuisance. The attention might be fawning at first or just desperate to hear more predictions, but it can just as easily turn to hatred for not 'sharing' the foresight he's obviously been having and thus letting x disaster occur.

So yeah. They probably should've invested more money into securing Euden's room from time-traveling dragons and strange men, even if it'd only likely weed out an assassin or two in reality since those two aren't...normal home invaders. Let Euden sleep in peace 2023

Ahahaha well. Nico is assassination/conspiracy to commit murder, bc she's done both of those things.

Mulligan, meanwhile, recently found himself arrested for (let me see) "Kidnapping, Dognapping, threats of physical violence, abuse of authority, desertion, dereliction of duty, intoxication on duty, carrying human remains without permit, illegal modification of W-Y property, dispersal of company secrets, illegal transportation of alien biomatter, fraud, Destruction of company property, breach of contract, reckless endangerment, unregulated xeno experimentation," etcetera. Now, not all of those are things he actually did. But he at the very least aided/abetted most of them.

If we were given a definitive canon answer by Geedubs regarding the identity of the Omnissiah, do you think there's even a smidge of a chance that it'll be the Void Dragon like everyone and their mother theorizes?

- Standoffish. He can come off as hostile or cold if you don’t know him or your not apart of his family. This can range from general saltine cracker to absolutely murderously so given the scenario.

- Brutally honest. Hates lying to people and hates sparing people’s emotions.

- Skeptical. Doesn’t trust anyone as far as he can throw them. Constantly double-guessing people's and even his own. Especially towards strangers.

- Scholarly. Loves to discover new things about the world and learning new things all the time. - Bibliophile. In the same area as scholarly Not an understatement. He loves his books. Do not touch his books.

- Temperamental. Though not surface level, Rueben has been know to get angry and stay angry for a very long time if the right switches are flipped.

4. A character you rarely talk about?

I can't think of another lowkey character to talk about, so LAURA RANT: THE SEQUEL

One of the ways in which Laura is #Problematic yet understandable has to do with the wider worldbuilding of her setting. There's a layer of it I would call "modern day us, but a little to the left" where the existence of magic isn't common knowledge, but it has inevitably… changed things.

One of these changes was within her own family. Laura understands herself as someone that values family above everything. It doesn't make sense to her, that she would react so quickly to demolish that connection, once it became too strange to handle. She doesn't like what that says about her, and would prefer not to think about it.

So, someone she loves is demolished by something entirely alien, and her worldview of mundanity is shattered. Magic is real, there is something beyond the hallmark life she understands. She cuts herself off from it. It's a risk to the picturesque life she's aiming for. In the same swoop, because that very same magic is being kept intentionally secret, she has no recourse to turn to to understand what she just went through. She can't, god forbid, talk about it, and risk being viewed as strange herself. In this situation, the only valid outlet for the genuine terror she feels is unchecked conspiracy. And, because of who she is, it's the kind of conspiracy that's prone to looking at social deviance with suspicion, as evidence of being connected to a deeper, secret wrongness.

And, well, she's only half wrong, in a setting with secret magic. If the magic wasn't secret, she may have been able to adjust more gracefully. If magic wasn't secret, she could have taken that grief to somewhere safe. But it isn't, she didn't, and she isn't going to catch herself slipping.

13. Do you have any troublemaker OCs?

Xeno. It's Xeno. Categorically Xeno. Some Xenos just want to watch the world Xeno.

Xeno's whole existence is one that's completely odds with everything around xer. There is no way for xer, a hotspot of radiation, to occupy space without it being a Problem for every other living being. Even beyond any internal anxieties, there are external social forces that try and keep xer bottled and quarantined- as is safe, as is calm. Xe, quite simply, doesn't get to experience xerself at rest. Xe is fighting to be involved, or xe is caged and separated.

Xe copes with this- to... arguable degrees of success- by leaning right into it, by deciding not to just be a problem, but The Problem. Xe dresses up "I am not an okay thing to exist" in villainous musical numbers and bank-heists, by lying across politicians desks and crashing fancy meetings. If xe even catches a glimpse of a status quo, xe's trying to knock it over. Maybe there is something to be said about inventing a better, more inclusive world- but Xeno doesn't see xer own activities that way. Clearly, this is all an act of evil selfishness on xer part.

I'm not.... sure I have any to offer here? 8)" Mostly because I have a disease where if I see two ocs with matching motifs, visual or otherwise, I'm like "Oh hey! A connection!" and they stop being unrelated.

I guess, when I was in highschool, I had an OC that was a computer virus with a perpetual 8D face. One day, I was drawing Lucy when I realized it felt familiar, and had to pause and go "oh, motherfuck-" and doodled this.
