You wanted thoughts on the ToT debacle, here you go. For me, I'm not a fan. It's already alarming that the JP dub will only be accessible in card stories moving forward, since normally, decisions like that usually foreshadow a sever shutdown for mobile games. But as a player it also severely limits my enjoyment of the game, as I got used to the JP portrayal of the characters. I've listened to the other dubs, but I preferred the JP dub. The stellar voice acting cast was also something that caught my eye when I initially found out about the game, and I was excited for it. But without the voice casting, it makes the characters more flat for me, since the little intricacies of the Voice Actor performances brought them to life. Also, as someone who get distracted easily, listening to the voices also made the main story and personal stories easier to go through. I could sorta follow along with the JP dub- it felt like an audio drama podcast.
But I think the biggest impact for me is the gating of content behind a paywall, while simultaneously giving less to players. Trying to pull a single SSR is a herculean effort, as it requires 18,000 S-Chips (depending on luck, since it might not even be the SSR I want). But considering the amount of grinding time needed, I wonder if it really is worth it. There's less and less reason for me to come back to the game with the decrease in dubbed JP content. While I was starting to save for the Top Ups, I'm not sure that I'm willing to put money into Miyoho like this. Miyoho's other projects aren't being as scaled back as Themis is, and crucially, they still haven't added back Artem's JP dub to the Chapter 6 main story or to Chapter 3 of his Personal Story, after they had promised to. I don't know if the announcement means that they will not be adding back Artem's JP dub at all, but it's something to keep in mind. For me personally, it's cemented my decision to not spend any money on this game and to minimize my playtime on the game going forward. I really hope this isn't the beginning of the end, but only time will tell.
hiya anon! thank you so much for the response, it made me think about things i personally hadn't considered so i really appreciate it. firstly, i've never heard about the server shutdown thing - that is super concerning omg. though i can't imagine hoyoverse actually shutting down one of their games since they're such a big company but who am i to say that LMAO
and you're completely right about not being able to enjoy the story anymore without the JP voices, if you're a player who prefers that dub. each player has become attached to whatever dub they're used to (like me personally im used to CN dub) so to switch to something that's different to the portrayal of the character you have come to know must be really jarring. and im super glad that JP dub made it easier for you to go through the stories, it's just sad knowing you and many other players will no longer have that experience :(
and omg. your second paragraph hit the nail on the head. im surprised i didnt think of this before (i got distracted by the 15 tears we got in the mail and forgot hyv barely gives us anything anymore) this is something that's made me stop playing the game as much too. all the grinding we have to do for S-chips feels futile because of how much we need to save to guarantee the ssr we want. and hoyoverse keeps dropping banner after banner (even though it's literally messing up the timeline) whilst barely giving us time to save up. it's so frustrating. ive felt like this for a while now, but it feels even worse now that you've reminded me it's gating content behind a paywall (especially for JP dub users in this case)
your response really was amazing, it addressed so many concerns that im sure a lot of other players are worried about too, so thank you again! i hope that hyv rethinks their decision, and that you get to enjoy the game again too :'(

Alexia had never felt like this before in all her life.it felt like everything she worked for all fell apart. broken acl and on top of that finding out your having a baby after many failed procedures of her and jenni trying over and over again.
all she could do was lay on the couch rethinking her whole life purpose.Tears slowly streaming down her face.
She had recently been feeling unwell and decided to take a trip to the hospital. Thinking it had something to do with her acl. But no she was so wrong instead. after she got to the hospital explaining her symptoms to the doctor's.
they told her that she was 8 weeks pregnant.
the look of shock on her face was not missed by the nurses around her. Her and jenni had been trying for a really long time Their last try would be around the beginning of the year, we're they received a negative blood test. but here she was finding out that she's around 2 months pregnant.
The world really does surprise you at unexpected moments.and this was one of them for alexia. The only thing that was going through her mind at the moment, was how she supposed to tell jenni or anyone else. Stil deep in her thoughts she heard the nurses ask if she would like an ultrasound. all alexia could do was nod agreeing to do it.
After finishing her business at the hospital she decided to call her mami cause she's about to be a mami herself so why not call her own too let her know.
Alexia brought out her phone dialing the first number she saw since it belongs to her mom.it only needed to be rung twice for eli to pickup her phone."alexia what happened did you get hurt are you okay" her mother questioned ?. She couldn't replied as tears started slipping down on her already wet face. Eli could tell something was wrong, alexia never cried that much.
often keeping to herself and when she did it would be mostly happy tears, but eli couldn't bring herself to know what was happening has alexia sob became louder.
"bebe I'll need you to tell me what going if not I cannot help you". eli said delicately trying to clam her daughter with a soft tune.
"Are you hurt" eli asked.
"Not like that mami" alexia said still choking on tears.
"So what exactly happening xia" eli asked her again.
" i don't really know what to do mami,I felt sick and went to the hospital- alexia said before getting cut off by her mother
"Alexia Putellas Segura you just told me that you weren't hurt and now your telling me how you felt sick what honestly going on you have me really worried". She heard her mother say on the phone
"Just let me finish explaining", she said. eil could hear the crack in her voice and hummed letting alexia to continue.
"After going in the hospital and explained my symptom's to one of the nurses attending to me said that i was expecting i don't know what to do how I'm I suppose to let her know mami".
Eli was the only one who knew how the couple had been trying for the longest of time especially knowing how hard it was on her daughter and lover.
"oh ale it all going to be alright but you'll have to tell her at some point she also deserve to hear about it from you".eli told her daughter
A while later that she finished talking to her mom.

Oh I forgot to ask a question!
😂
Ok, here it is: Who’s your inspirations for your artistry?
Big question, I know.
^__^
hmmmm you're right, that is a big question! since you asked "who" i'm going to assume you mean other artists?
for painting i'm particularly inspired by Anthony Cudahy, Alex Beck, Sterling Hundley, Ashley Wood (all contemporary,) Euan Uglow, Joaquin Sorolla, Sargent, Arkady Plastov, Ivan Shishkin, Konstantin Yuon, Ferenc Pinter, and a number of names in the Brandywine school like Mead Schaeffer and NC Wyeth.
i reformatted my brain a little in 2021 by reading Fujimoto's Chainsaw Man. Other mangaka are Hirohiko Araki, Kosuke Fujishima, Otomo, Inoue, Urasawa, Miura. the 2S artist Brandon Hoax is a HUGE inspiration to me. same for Chase Conley, Peter Chung, Freddy Carrasco, Xia Gordon, Ron Wimberly, Chris Kindred, Mel Tow, Hiro Isono, mozame_mo, Yoshitake Yamane, @maxbanshees @potogawaryuiki @coshkunz @cparrisartand @fourcorneredgod @newjackcole @choodraws @doctop @hirosemaryhello @nocturnalwalkr @fanficciera @oak-n @purenonsens @juangeedraws @plaest2k @blackblobyellowcone @turndecassette2 many more friends and strangers whose work i'm delighted to spend time traveling thru (and whose names i'll add in once i publish this enormous reply lol. rn i'm afraid of tumblr eating it!!)
most importantly, my partner Anka @kingfisher-cove charmed and captivated me from day one. the personality and dynamism of their work, specificity of place, time, body, personal effects, there's always been so much life in their art. i have little to no interest in stories/characters without limits, where mobility is never a concern, especially featuring the wealthy. stories where people don't sweat or pee or have "bad" teeth or talk too loud. Anka's always portrayed peeling paint and rusted metal as a fact of life. you get a sense of dimension/volume in their art— the way material hangs off a body, and that body's form, how gravity and weight conform feet to the ground— and the same goes for the personalities and ideas populating it. the viewer too has a home here beyond "representation." it's not just window-dressing, nor ponderous hyperrealism. there's cartoon whimsy and cartoon stakes. i wish i could describe the extent it's meaningful to me. i feel lucky to see it! plus i really making them yell and art is a good way of accomplishing it.
so because this is veering into WHAT inspires me...
other than like, transness and communism and everything that entails, i'm inspired heavily by pornography and leather culture, and (mostly vintage) magazines like Honcho and Juggs, 70s italian erotica/nunsploitation. relatedly, the lush scenes of Pierre et Gilles and Tarsem and Christian Riese Lassen. i'm also deeply inspired by hyperlink/multimedia art, such as that by Olia Lialina of @oneterabyteofkilobyteage or projects like Ted's Cave. places and delights of my childhood like Myst/Riven, Fin Fin, rural river water, rocky beaches, soft glowing glades, sharks in coral outcrops. autonomy and dissociation, too.
with a lot of the artists i mentioned, there is a handiness, a presence in their work, a dedication to indulgence and/or experimentation, in subject, setting, medium, whatever. an interest not feigned. i also love maximalist colour and texture... in drawings, in textiles, anything! worldwide and through history. i'm inspired by golden age illustration and Iranian turquoise and carpets. miniatures. iconography. lotuses. magnolia.
you can fake sincerity of course. when it comes to making art that seems like a waste of precious effort. when i get a sense that the artist really loves People beyond serving up a telephone game of vibe-mood-aesthetic... that is cool to me. if the art isn't well-lived, then it's well-cared for. a lot of the nostalgia fodder is based on a memory of a memory that was sold for mass market consumers, so i'm a bit distrusting of it. which isn't to say that i don't love a tone poem (i do-- Legend is one of my favourite films) nor that it requires "realism" to accomplish either. i love being sold on the ridiculous. i respond well to like, an artist (in whatever respect) showing me something absurd with 100% unbridled earnestness and fearlessness about being silly. my top 3 favourite series are JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Metal Gear Solid, and Ace Attorney. these are objectively as exaggerated in their drama as they are serious about their intent, and populated by straight freaks. one of my favourite directors is Michael Mann (Miami Vice, Manhunter, Heat, Thief, Collateral) who is known for his obsessive, even illustrative details but also, Audioslave plays during an emotional night drive. they don't let Audioslave play during an emotional night drive anymore. all these things are related lmao. let me go on a further tangent
there's an internal logic, right? and when it's flipped? that's the best. i don't mean a "twist," either. it's something else-- the author/artist revealing that, emotionally, things were always more complex than you were lead to believe, and it recontextualises the entire piece. if surprise is the best part of comedy then i think the same goes for melancholy. i love when the rug is pulled out from under me through something as simple as the reimagined N'doul episodes of the JJBA OVA. (YES! YES! I'LL TALK ABOUT IT FOREVER! I'M CRAZY! BUT I'M RIGHT!) is it a twist? nothing's actually changed about where the story is headed. you know where it's headed. but the meaning of that story has-- by creating an emotional trapdoor like that, it establishes a particular sense of suspense.
i'm mentioning these because i rewatched them recently-- films like Solaris and Sunshine and... you know what? Terminator are bigger to me than their subject matter because the emotional space they create is unnerving, where hope is fragile if it's present at all. something hard to accomplish... the bittersweet potency of ironic regret.
i'll keep adding to this. i could go on and on lol

AU/plot divergence of "A White Lie"
An alternative result to Xia Sini's injury, starting in Chapter 11.
x-x-x-x-x
The two men lingered at the door in a quiet discussion with one of Tanlang Elder's disciples. Xia Sini began stirring. He made a soft sound of inquiry and then seemed to stop moving.
“Xia Sini,” Xue Zhengyong called out with a trace of amusement, “you’re awake!”
“…”
“How is your injury?” Xue Zhengyong asked.
“…Ow,” Xia Sini said quietly.
Mo Ran had never heard Xia Sini acknowledge pain before. Some of his anxiety came back. The injury must have been deeper than it looked.
“Hm? That bad? I thought Tanlang had given you some medicine already.”
“He probably rolled onto the injury while he was asleep,” Tanlang Elder said.
Xia Sini said nothing. Mo Ran was too worried to keep pretending to sleep. He lifted his head and pretended to be groggy as he looked Xia Sini over. Xia Sini looked back at him with a strange expression. He looked confused and a little scared, as if he were very disoriented.
“A-Ran finally woke up too!” Xue Zhengyong said cheerfully, drawing Mo Ran’s attention.
Mo Ran put on a guilty expression and turned around.
“Uncle! Tanlang Elder!”
“You couldn’t wait to see your shidi?”
“I was wrong to have snuck in,” Mo Ran said before pleading, “but I had to know, how is my shidi?”
“I want to know as well,” Tanlang Elder said.
He briskly walked into the room to Xia Sini’s bedside. Mo Ran reluctantly made way for him. Tanlang Elder then held out his hand towards Xia Sini and waited for Xia Sini to give him his hand in return. Xia Sini instead shrank into his blanket as if he wanted to hide.
“The sooner we get this done, the sooner I’ll leave,” Tanlang Elder said irritably.
“…”
Xia Sini was looking silently at Tanlang Elder’s extended hand. He still looked confused and scared. Mo Ran frowned. Tanlang Elder had terrible bedside manner.
He made sure his voice was gentle when he asked, “What’s wrong?”
Xia Sini glanced at him. He seemed a little soothed by Mo Ran’s comparatively gentle expression.
“…Where is Shizun?” Xia Sini asked quietly.
“Do you mean Xuanji Elder?” Mo Ran asked.
Xia Sini shook his head. “I mean my shizun.”
“…”
Mo Ran wasn’t sure what to say. Xia Sini had never mentioned any other shizun. He had never even referred to Xuanji Elder as ‘shizun.’ That wasn’t the only thing that felt wrong. Xia Sini was still curled into his blanket like a frightened kitten. He blinked up at Mo Ran with a mixture of anxiety and hope as he awaited an answer. This kind of look was unlike Xia Sini. Sure, he was injured, but given his level of cultivation, this couldn’t have been the first time he’d been injured. Mo Ran thought back to the rare times when Xia Sini had fallen or been bruised in training. He’d always borne the pain as secondary to the loss of dignity. Mo Ran had expected more of the same from him upon waking. But there was no trace of Xia Sini’s usual assurance and pride in the little figure before Mo Ran now.
Something was off. Something had gone wrong.
Tanlang Elder cleared his throat. “Sect Leader…”
“A-Ran,” Xue Zhengyong said, “I must ask that you leave us for now.”
As if Mo Ran would leave. Clearly something had gone wrong with Xia Sini’s injury. Maybe he’d hit his head, or the dosage for his medication had been off, or he’d suffered a qi deviation.
Xue Zhengyong added, “I promise I’ll let you know if anything changes with…with this little disciple.”
“I want to keep Little Shidi company,” Mo Ran replied stubbornly.
Forget pretending to be a 15-year-old dummy. Being here with Xia Sini was more important. Mo Ran sat on the bed so he wouldn’t be looming over Xia Sini.
“Does it hurt anywhere?” Mo Ran asked gently.
“My arm…”
Mo Ran nodded. “My shixiong says you fell off your sword flying and hurt your arm. Do you remember that?”
“No.”
Mo Ran nodded again as if there were nothing unusual about that. Losing one’s memories was scary for anyone, let alone a little kid. It wouldn’t be helpful for Xia Sini to see fear on Mo Ran’s face.
“We need to know whether your arm is okay. Would you give Tanlang Elder your hand? He’ll be able to see if anything is wrong. It’s not going to hurt at all.”
“Oh.”
Xia Sini glanced between Mo Ran and Tanlang Elder. Tanlang Elder had retracted his hand but he had not stepped away. Xia Sini seemed shy of the older man but, having taken in Mo Ran’s words and expression, he held his hand out obediently. Tanlang Elder took it and read his pulse.
After some silence, he let go of Xia Sini’s hand. Xia Sini tucked it back into his blanket as soon as it was free.
“See? That didn’t hurt at all, did it?”
“No…”
Tanlang Elder halfway turned so he could share his opinion with Xue Zhengyong.
“There are no changes that I can detect, except for the injury healing. Perhaps…” he hesitated and glanced at Mo Ran, who had scooted closer to hear better.
Xue Zhengyong gave Mo Ran a fond, amused look.
“Is this also part of ‘keeping him company’?” he asked.
“Since I’m keeping Little Shidi company, I might as well learn know how to take care of him,” Mo Ran said shamelessly.
He knew he was pushing it, but he also knew that his uncle would indulge him. Xue Zhengyong spoiled his nephew and let him get away with almost anything…
Except this time, Xue Zhengyong put his foot down.
“A-Ran, your will to do your duty by your shizun isn’t wrong. But your shizun would not want you to neglect your cultivation. Your little shidi will be fine; Tanlang Elder will take very good care of him.”
Mo Ran gaped. He shoved down his indignation to ask plaintatively, “Uncle, are you sending me away?”
“Yes,” Xue Zhengyong said.
“But—”
“I’m sorry, A-Ran,” Xue Zhengyong said. “This time, I have to insist. You have another mission tonight with Meng-er. Go and rest.”
“Uncle,” Mo Ran pleaded stubbornly.
“A-Ran,” Xue Zhengyong countered. “Please don’t make things difficult.”
He gestured at the bed as he spoke, which made both him and Mo Ran look. It was only then that they noticed that the bed was empty.
“Huh?” Xue Zhengyong said.
Mo Ran had a moment to panic before he felt a small set of arms wrap around his legs. He looked down. For the first time since his little shidi had awoken, Mo Ran saw a trace of the normal Xia Sini on his face.
The little kitten of a disciple looked stubbornly at Xue Zhengyong.
“A-Ning wants to be with this gege.”
“…”
“…”
“…”
Tanlang snorted.
“Huh? Did you say ‘A-Ning?’” Mo Ran asked.
Xue Zhengyong cleared his throat. “Little one, why don’t you get back into bed first…”
‘A-Ning’ ignored Xue Zhengyong in favor of replying to Mo Ran.
“Mn. This one’s name is Wanning. Chu Wanning.”
“…”
“…”
“…”
Tanlang Elder burst into laughter.

Healed Promises - Pt 1
! By Xizara i mean Evil Xisuma, that’s the name I have him !
! These phone numbers are purely randomly typed into the keyboard, please do not try calling them !
Xisuma prided himself on the fact that he kept his promises. He was a man of honor - whatever he told someone he’d do (or implied that he’d do it), he would do it. No one would be let down under his watch, least of all his hermits.
He didn’t see Wels all that often, but he liked to think of their pride as a bonding connection.
Maybe there was a reason for that. Maybe it was the guilt that consumed his soul every single day since he was eighteen. The guilt that ate away at him, constantly reminding him of a fateful portal he’d opened.
He’d let them down by leaving.
He always kept promises after that though. Ones he could keep, ones that were iffy. He always kept them. A promise was like a little trinket, something small that meant something big to someone else. They’d entrusted him to keep it and so he honored that wish.
Which was why he was initially so hesitant to send a reply letter back. By no means was it a huge commitment. But… did he really want to see him again?
Xizara had never, ever done anything wrong. He had always been the one to wrap Xia in blankets and whisper soothing words to her, all while he himself was the one who invoked arguments with his parents as a last-ditch effort to try to help. Maybe if he’d been more emotionally available for his siblings they wouldn’t resent him so much. Xizara had probably asked to meet him just to tell him off after gathering the courage to see him after fifteen years.
He picked up the letter to read it again, parchment clearly ripped out of an empty notebook, the paper softened from the times he’d crumpled it up and instantly regretted it.
Xisuma -
I write to you after a while to tentatively ask to meet. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen you, and as everyone knows, twins always stick together.
Void if only they could have stuck together, like False and her twin did.
I know you’re busy - you always are, precious Admin child.
Was he being made fun of? Was that some form of anger being expressed in the note of always being overlooked?
So if you could please write back that would be great. We can arrange a time or something?
My new comm number is 682-720-8165 if you want to save it. If you’re mad at me just say that.
Inanis’ blessings,
Xizara Void
Dammit this was difficult. Was he annoyed or not? Surely if he was annoyed the letter would be worded differently? But he could be trying to hide it.
He pulled out a piece of paper and a fancy pen from his stationery drawer.
Hey Xizara,
Yeah I’d be down to meet! I’m pretty busy lately but as the admin of the server I’m sure I can delegate or something, haha.
Do you want me to come back home or do you want to visit me here? I can make accommodations for the air and stuff, but it’d be helpful if you still have the helmet or mask I gave you.
I don’t have much of a preference but I get the feeling I’m not really welcomed at home anymore…
You can contact me as well if you like by personal comm at 451-269-0157. If that’s the wrong number just let me know, I get my work and personal numbers mixed up sometimes.
Regards,
Xisuma Void, Ad.M
He sighed, setting down the pen. The promise was inked and he was now obligated to send it.
If this was a trap waiting for him he’d rather be prepared, but if it wasn’t he didn’t want to estrange his siblings even more.
To the interdimensional post office.

Hello~! You seem to be able to find tons of photos of Hanfu, and I was wondering if you could find any that are primarily black with white tones on them? Especially if they have stripes, haha :) I'm almost positive stripes aren't a traditional pattern for Hanfu, but I know people get creative and so perhaps someone's done it before! :D
Hi, thanks for the question, and sorry for taking ages to reply!
I have a black & white tag containing some examples of this color combination. As for stripes, they actually are a traditional pattern for hanfu, as you can see in my stripes tag. Below are a few more black & white patterned hanfu I found on Taobao:
1. Jin dynasty-style ruqun from 乔织/Qiao Zhi with stripe pattern on the qun (x):

2. Jin dynasty-style ruqun from 池夏/Chi Xia with houndstooth pattern on the ru and floral pattern on the qun (x):

In honor of the New Year, have some more Headcanons for the Miraculous characters
Gong Xi Fa Cai!
---
Canon Marinette (aka a Mari with bad scores in Chinese linguistics) does NOT realize that the warm wishes for a new year in most Chinese cultures all basically mean "hope you get rich" but after saying it over the phone to her uncle and aunt so many times, she can at least say that correctly
Socqueline knows and she had a little laugh about it when it registered. At least once she told Marinette "hope you get rich" in French and Marinette was like "oh god, you too, these art and sewing supplies are getting so expensive."
Xia Bing (Sabine), Soqueline and Marinette spend every spring festival making cakes and other popular desserts that the bakery sells. Soqueline's Chinese parent tends to be busy or maybe they're divorced? Idk tbh.
Marinette goes to Kagami one spring festival and says "happy new year" in French
(Marinette rambling to Tikki: "because she's not Chinese she's Japanese so I can't say Gong Xi Fa Cai but she's Asian so she celebrates the spring festival lunaisolar new year too, right? At the very least it's the year of the dragon and kagami is the holder of the dragon miraculous and Longg is a chinese dragon and oh my God I need to speak with Longg and make sure he has plenty of snacks and oh my god wait all the kwamis are Chinese aren't they??")
Kagami thanks her and replies in Mandarin and when Marinette stares, she switches to Cantonese, and Marinette stares more
"Adrien, which chinese does Marinette know?"
"Well she was learning mandarin..."
"I will learn Mandarin."
"Kagami, wait--"
And then Fei, she knows Marinette can't speak any Chinese at all except for some very stilted Mandarin and *she* is the one that eventually translates what Gong Xi Fa Cai means and then Marinette has an "ohhhhhhh" moment and Fei joins in on the cake making whenever she's in town

Murderous Lust - Chapter 2
As the evening progressed, the atmosphere in the grand manor shifted subtly. The celebration continued, but Reader's unease grew stronger. He couldn't shake off the feeling that the demons, Liu'er mihou and Sun wukong, were watching him intently, their gazes like daggers cutting through the air. He tried to brush off the sensation, attributing it to his own paranoia, but the tension in his muscles persisted.
Reader discreetly excused himself from the party for a moment, needing to catch his breath and clear his mind. He slipped out onto a lavish balcony adorned with hanging vines and soft, ambient lighting. The festivities sounds were no more than a gentle murmur.
The cool night breeze provided a temporary reprieve from the suffocating ballroom. He leaned against the marble railing, his heart racing, trying to shake off the foreboding sense that had settled over him.
"You seem troubled," a voice spoke from the shadows, sending a shiver down Reader's spine. He turned to find Liu'er mihou standing there, his dark purple eyes fixated on Reader. Despite the elegance of his attire, the simian's aura exuded a raw, primal power that made Reader's breath catch.
“Your highness”, gasped Reader, bowing himself forward.
“You don’t need to be formal with me. Now, tell me, what’s got you to leave the festivity.”
He found himself intimidated by the commanding presence before him. When they talked last time, he wasn’t impressed by the dark simian king. His though only burning with anger against Da Xia and with concern for the poor man that got hurt. But now that the adrenaline rush had worn off and that it was just the two of them, he couldn’t help but to feel afraid of him. He was such an imposing demon, he was king for a reason after all.
Reader's voice quivered slightly as he replied : "It's just... the grandeur of the celebration, I suppose. It can be overwhelming at times. And I haven't got used to this kind of life yet."
Liu'er mihou stepped closer, his gaze unwavering. "New experiences often carry both excitement and uncertainty. But there is more to your unease, isn't there?"
Reader's brow furrowed in confusion, unsure how Liu'er mihou could sense his deeper turmoil.
"I... I'm not sure what you mean.”
Liu'er mihou's gaze softened, and he leaned against the railing beside Reader. "It's not uncommon for those who have faced hardships to carry their burdens long after the storms have passed. Your eyes hold a story, Reader. A tale of strength, resilience, and a determination to rise above."
Reader's heart skipped a beat, his unease giving way to a pang of vulnerability. How could this demon, a creature of legend, perceive his inner struggles so keenly?
"You're perceptive," Reader admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. After a short time in his own reflection, Reader turned to face the simian and focused in order to plunge into his eyes. He never has been good at that, but he wanted to try, maybe this time he could see something, a part of the king’s story, a glimpse of his thoughts.
"That's curious," Reader mused, his voice tinged with a hint of self-reflection, "no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to perceive any stories through your eyes. I suppose I'm less attuned to perceiving that kind of things than you are. Or, perhaps it's due to your long life, your story is too long to be seen through your eyes ."
“But your story is quite as long as mine.” Smiled Liu'er.
Reader laughed.
“I doubt that, it feels like I’ve just been born. Even if to get in here it took me so much time, it’s as if I’m just a child discovering the world once again. Happily Lex is here to lead the way. I would be lost without him. I wouldn’t even be here without him.”
A loud noise startled Reader and he saw that Liu'er's face was no longer relaxed and jovial, but serious and tense. The fur on his neck was standing up.
As soon as he saw Reader looking in his direction, he tried to calm down as best he could.
"Are you well, Your Highness?" asked Reader.
He smiled, an obviously fake one, and replied that he simply felt tired. With that, he wished Reader a good night and left.
Reader remained there, lost in thought, gazing up at to the sky, which was disappearing behind rain clouds.
Then his eyes slid to the balustrade, where hands were now engraved. Something was wrong. Why had he left the party to talk to a simple man like Reader? To apologize for his daughter's behavior? No, he hadn't made any excuses. Maybe… he just wanted to talk. No, there was more. Plus he got angry, he even engraved his hands in the railing.  And the fact that he tensed up when Lex was ta…
Lex!
Without knowing why, fear overcame Reader and he rushed back into the ballroom. Running down an empty, cold corridor, entering the overcrowded, oppressive ballroom in search of the one he loved. Something inside him had awakened, something that would never leave him. That fear of losing the one his heart belonged to.
"Lex !," Reader's voice was silenced by the constent noises, as he swept his gaze across the crowded ballroom, searching for his husband. His heart raced, the fear that had lain dormant for so long awakening within him. He threaded his way among the whirling dancers, his eyes searching for the familiar face he hoped to see.
As he made his way through the guests, a familiar silhouette emerged from the crowd. Lex's worried expression mirrored Reader's own anxiety. They found themselves in the center of the ballroom, surrounded by the whirlwind of music and celebration.
"What's wrong?" asked Lex, in a voice soft but laced with concern.
"I was… I was…"
Reader was so reassured to see him. He couldn't explain what had happened to him, how he felt. He simply took him in his arms.
"Dear?"
"Where are the kings?" Reader asked."
"They are gone, they said they had things to think about."
Reader sighed with relief.

Days passed and the celebrations was now totally stopped. Lex's popularity among the higher-ups had increased since that evening. He had talked to the right people. Since then, he had been working on his political plans to find out what he would propose to the citizens in the election for the city's future mayor.
Reader, he was always at his side, never leaving him for too long. Ever since his discussion with Liu'er mihou, he hadn't been able to shake the fear of losing his lover. He'd felt this kind of fear before, when he was still a child, at the institute… The institute, he could hardly stop thinking about that sordid place.
He needed to talk. But he never talked about the institute to Lex... maybe it was time.
“Lex, can we talk please ?”
“Yes sweetie, what’s wrong ?”
“I haven’t be honest with you about my past.”
“What do you mean?”
“I said that I lived terrible things, that I had to kill to get the right to live. But… I haven’t told you the truth about why I had to.”
“To survive ?”
“No, that’s not what I meant.”
Frustration builds as much as the fear of telling the truth. What if Lex hated him by learning all about the institute, about his "comrades".
“Listen," said Lex calmly "I seek no more than to understand you and to know more about you, love. But even if the past has a way of influencing the present, it doesn't have to define it. I believe the choices we make now shape the future we create, not our past. So don’t feel obligated to reveal anything that would hurt you. Because I’m in love with you, no matter your scars. I can live with them, and I will help you soothe their pain. But that’s not them that I married, but you. I love you for who you are, not for who you were."
And just like it, all the fears and the tension Reader would have felt has been gone.
“Thank you… I love you so much, Lex” Reader's said, at the verge of tears.
Normally, Lex would have replied, "I love me too," but he sensed his husband's distress and simply couldn't joke at a time like this.
They hugged. In his embrace, Reader felt safe again. Away from the wolves that had dominated his life and driven him to do horrible things. Away from the institute. He was free and loved.
If only he knew that in no time at all, he'd lose everything, not to the wolves, but to two simians who, from the Flower-Fruit Mountain, were already planning how they were going to seize Reader's freedom.
A plan that had quickly been put in place as they received a sealed royal missive.

How It Should Have Happened: A Series of Advance Bravely Fix Its
Episode 15
Tumblr media
Yuan Zong's heart was beating wildly beneath his muscular chest as he gazed up at Xia Yao. He swallowed the bite of pear he had been chewing, trying to hold back a smirk. The younger man was leaning over him, their legs slotted perfectly on the leather couch in his office. It was already dark, and once again Xia Yao had lingered around after hours, probably hoping to spend the night again in Yuan Zong's private quarters on site at his training facility.
This didn't bother Yuan Zong, but that did not deter him from teasing Xia Yao a little for being so obvious.
"You tricked me!" Xia Yao exclaimed, a smile threatening to ruin his scowl. "This pear is so sour it's making me numb all over!" He licked his red lips to prove his point, which only served to draw Yuan Zong's patiently aroused gaze.
"Numb, eh?" Yuan Zong replied. He kept his arms open to the side, despite desperately wanting to wrap his hands around the slender waist of the boy nearly laying on top of him. Xia Yao's face loomed closer.
"So numb I don't think I can move," he said seductively. Yuan Zong felt himself twitch in his pants. He was thrilled at the boldness Xia Yao was showing. He waited to see what he would do. Yuan Zong had initiated a few kisses since that first night Xia Yao loitered around the company kitchen, and Xia Yao had been receptive. But he wondered if tonight Xia Yao would finally do what Yuan Zong knew he desired. It was plain to see in his hungry eyes.
"So what can you do about the taste in your mouth?" Yuan Zong prompted in his low voice. He refused to look away, and Xia Yao continued staring at him. The tension between them was growing, as Xia Yao reached up and loosened the tie at his neck. Yuan Zong swallowed, captivated by the flushed beauty of this rich Beijing prince. Xia Yao licked his lips again and he leaned in closer, propping himself up on his elbows now instead of his hands. He let his head dip down and his soft cheek slid next to Yuan Zong's face.
He could smell the sweet mix of Xia Yao's sweat and faded cologne; it tested his ability to continue holding still. Everything in him wanted to pin the man to the floor and tear at his clothes. Xia Yao nuzzled Yuan Zong, and he couldn't help but let one hand come up and rest on the young man's thigh. Soft lips pecked carefully at the corner of Yuan Zong's mouth, then directly onto his lips. Yuan Zong moved slowly at first, pursing his lips in return, letting Xia Yao lead.
They kissed like this, moving their mouths together for a moment without changing, simply enjoying the pleasurable feelings. Then Xia Yao seemed to become more comfortable, and his tongue licked tentatively at Yuan Zong's upper lip. He pulled back a bit, suddenly embarrassed, and Yuan Zong smiled and slid his hand up Xia Yao's thigh, curving around to feel his perky, cute butt. Xia Yao arched his back at the touch, but his eyes shone with lust.
"Do you still feel numb?" Yuan Zong asked.
Xia Yao blinked, as if he didnt know what he meant, then shrugged one shoulder.
"Maybe you need to kiss again?" Yuan Zong teased, not unkindly. He smirked as a blush beautifully decorated Xia Yao's cheeks. He lifted his head from the couch a bit and Xia Yao met him halfway, kissing him again, still carefully holding his body over Yuan Zong. Yuan Zong finally brought up his other hand, having already discarded his half eaten pear, and held the side of Xia Yao's face. He pushed his tongue inside, sweeping through his mouth, fully tasting and sucking on Xia Yao's warm tongue. The boy moaned as his eyelashes fluttered closed, and Yuan Zong became uncomfortably tight in his trousers. His whole body felt deliciously warm.
He let his head fall back down on the armrest of the couch, a string of saliva snapping against Xia Yao's bottom lip as they parted.
"Better?" Yuan Zong asked, lifting his eyebrows. Xia Yao wiped his mouth and nodded.
"I think I actually like it," he said. "The sour pears, I mean."
He gave Yuan Zong a smug look and climbed off the couch to retrieve his bag that he had thrown on the floor in his mock rage earlier. He turned around to Yuan Zong still splayed out on the couch, one knee now bent, his legs casually open and inviting, an arm behind his head.
"You still going to try and find a girlfriend?" Xia Yao demanded.
"What do you think?" Yuan Zong retorted with a smile. Xia Yao half-smiled back, and spun on his heels, leaving the office. When he reached the door, he turned around again.
"So what are you making for dinner?" He looked at Yuan Zong expectantly.
Yuan Zong sat up slowly, and undid the tie at his throat. "What would you like?"

This might be a weird question but do you know why it’s so common for content about ethnic minorities to have captions etc add “one of the 56 official/officially recognized ethnic minorities” to them? Are there other groups that aren’t “official”, and why/is it seen as necessary to mention if they are? Is it like, it adds legitimacy or something? I’m not sure what common ways of thinking about minority ethnicities and their cultures are, so I was curious if you had any insight since you translate things a lot :)
It's common because I'm the one writing the captions lmao. I answered a previous question similar to this. TLDR; yes, there are unofficial ethnic minorities in China besides the 56 official ones. Most of those were determined based on popular/emerging recognition of the distinct ethnic groups prior to the founding of the PRC.

Yes more or less. I feel like I covered most of this ask in my previous reply but maybe I was too all over the place...
The filial piety bit that you're thinking about is what I meant when mentioning Confucianism. I suppose I should've elaborated. Essentially, Confucianism places family and filial piety as a core value of society, which goes hand in hand with the prevalence of ancestor worship in China. Therefore, one's responsibility is to carry on the family line. Ancestors need descendants.
This is generally interpreted in terms of having biological children although technically there is nothing really wrong with adopting children to carry on your family legacy. For example, (powerful or favored) imperial eunuchs could adopt children and carry on their family line. More relevantly, in cases of same-sex couples, so long as those relationships didn't get in the way of family duties, there was nothing really wrong with them. It was popular to have same-sex as well as opposite-sex lovers in both the Tang and Song dynasties (Song succeeded Tang), but also even earlier such as the Han dynasty and pre-imperial times.
As noted in my previous reply, for example, Dong Xian, Longyang, and Mizi Xia were all lovers to royalty. It's also worth remembering that monarchs in particular had multiple consorts and concubines, and even non-royals could take concubines (partners with less family law/marital rights than wives), provided they could afford to do so.
