So. I’ve read the Breakaway series by @xiaq (E.L. Massey) and I am in love and I NEEDED to draw Sydney… so here she is. You can read the fic here. I can’t wait to read the book once it's released and I too would fall in love with Matts and I too would fall in love with Sydney. @xiaq please feel free to tell me I picture her wrong + i know i need to add the tattoos etc, but I wasn’t sure where/what exactly they are plus this was a 1h sketch to unwind and yeah.

EDIT: Obviously we're already operating on the notion that there are several problematic aspects of Rowling's books, but just in case it wasn't clear from my rather heavy-handed narrative adjustments--I do not support TERF extraordinaire JK Rowling; however, I refuse to let her shitty worldviews ruin my nostalgia or my love of the HP fandom I've grown up with. Just to make that clear.

Excerpt:

“So,” Harry clears his throat. “What else have you found out about your family?”

Draco hands him a piece of parchment. “I imagine Doctor Nott would be interested in this.”

It takes Harry a moment to decipher.

“You’re part Veela.”

“A very, very, small part. But apparently yes.”

“I always wondered if that story was true,” Narcissa murmurs. “Though it certainly explains your father’s…” She looks distant for a moment. She blinks and touches Draco’s shoulder. “And you, of course, darling.”

“Me?”

“You’re very pretty,” Harry points out.

He thought they’d already established this.

“Yes,” Narcissa agrees. “That.”

Draco’s neck starts to go pink.

Harry is trying to decide how best to encourage the pinkness when Hermione’s otter patronus materialises on the table in front of them.

Oh.

He’d actually managed to forget, for a while.

Harry reaches, instinctively, for Draco’s hand and their knuckles collide painfully because Draco has reached for him in the same instant.

His fingers—cool and slender—go desperately tight around Harry’s.

“I’m so sorry,” the otter says, and her Hermione’s voice sounds so devastated that Harry already knows—

“They’ve denied it.”

Narcissa sits down heavily on the bench beside Draco.

“Harry,” the otter says. “What do you want us to do?”

“What we planned,” he bites out, standing. “Call Luna and Lee. I’ll be there in twenty minutes.”

“Harry, are you sure—”

“I’m sure.”

The otter twists and then disintegrates.

“I don’t—where are we going?” Draco asks faintly.

He’s pale. His fingers are still tangled with Harry’s.

“Just me. You stay here with your mother. I’ll be back late tonight. Maybe early tomorrow morning.”

“But—where? You can’t. You don’t have a portkey.”

“Back to London. I’ll just make a few jumps. It’s fine. I’ve travelled further with apparition before.”

“Potter,” Draco says. His voice is starting to sound more normal again. “What are you going to do?”

“What I should have done months ago, as soon as I found out what the Ministry was doing.”

“Meaning?” He still hasn’t let go of Harry’s hand.

“Meaning I’ve been working on a press release about the Ministry’s hypocrisy with Luna and Lee Jordan. Luna will release a print version tomorrow with the Quibbler. I’m going to record the radio and film versions with Lee now. If enough people object, Ministry officials will be forced to re-sentence you—and everyone else—or risk their careers. It’ll be okay. I’m going to handle it.”

“No,” Draco says.

Harry tries to pull his hand away.

“Yes.”

“No. You—you self-sacrificing imbecile. I’ll not let you throw away your life to—”

“Mm. It’s really not up to you, what I do with my life, thanks.”

“Potter,” Draco says, and his voice is low, desperate. “Please. Don’t. Not for me.”

“It’s not just for you,” Harry says. “It’s for Pansy and Theo and the others. And for me. For all the people bitten during the war who were forced out of their jobs and treated like pariahs or who quit before anyone could find out because they knew what would happen because of shitty, untrue, stereotypes that Ministry officials encourage. It’s for Teddy and—for everyone. Okay?”

“I thought you didn’t want to fight anymore. I thought you just wanted quiet. And anonymity.”

“I did. But I can’t just—” Harry exhales sharply, exasperated. “People listen to me, whether I want them to or not. And if I’m the only one that can fix this, I have to at least try. Because it’s wrong. What they’re doing is wrong.”

Draco kisses him.

It’s mostly teeth.

“Fuck you,” Draco snarls, shoving his shoulder with a hand that, moments before, had been cupping his jaw. “Stupid fucking Gryffindor.”

The other hand is still firmly wrapped around Harry’s which makes the gesture nearly as baffling as the kiss.

“I—what?”

“Fine,” Draco says, shoving him again. “Go. Save the world. I’ll shout at you more when you come back for me.”

“Okay?”

“But don’t forget to come back. Please.”

The very idea is laughable.

He wonders if he can get away with kissing Draco again. Softer, maybe. But he doesn’t actually know what the first kiss meant and considering the pushing and the swearing—perhaps it was just a spur of the moment thing. A spur-of-the-moment kissing thing. Those happen, sometimes. Right?

He squeezes Draco’s hand and Draco, finally, releases him.

“I’ll be back,” he says. “Fast as I can.”

Draco crosses his arms. “You’d better.”

Harry disapparates.

Howl's Moving Castle but when the prince of the other country come back to hit on Sophie1

(i actually hashed this out with a friend so there are some comments from her too!)

+Follow up thoughts on Howl’s Moving Castle: what happens when the prince from the neighboring country shows up to try and woo Sophie away from Howl?

+After the war is over he shows up like “Hey, man, glad she broke your spell, too, happy you’re alive, know she loves you dearly, but I gotta give it a shot” and Howl is 30% “Hey I can respect that” and 70% “this is MY emotional support curse breaking kind person and You! Can’t! Have! Her!!!”

+And I think Justin (that is his canon name, sorry you had to find out this way) shows back up knowing how it’s gonna go because Sophie wouldn’t be the woman he fell in love with if she were any less devoted to Howl or wishy-washy in her convictions so he shows up knowing it's not going to happen BUT what he doesn’t know is that Sophie has a very beautiful and kind sister

+So he’s visiting Sophie and meets Lettie and maybe Lettie is actually super smart, not just beautiful like she’s always been told is what matters most. Lettie’s enrolled in university!

+But she’s paying for it on her own because her mother doesn’t support such endeavors but Lettie is Determined!

+So maybe the first time Justin meets Lettie is actually at the cafe because Sophie is showing him around because her mindset is “this man can love me but I’m damned sure going to make sure it’s as a friend” and Sophie tells him her sister is starting university in the fall. And Justin - being the polite prince he is - asks Lettie what she’ll be studying and Lettie says international trade or economics or whatever the fantasy equivalent is and Justin is surprised. Lettie is easily beautiful enough to just marry for money and be a trophy wife, but he definitely respects her decision not to take the easy way out

+So because Lettie is a prepared bitch and she’s familiarized herself with all the readings for her first class already, she and Justin have a decent if very short conversation about how trade taxes have changed since the end of the war but Lettie has to go cause girl is at work.

+So Sophie and Justin have their tea and sweets and then return to Sophie’s mom’s house with her new filthy rich husband because you KNOW the woman would demand to host at least on dinner once she realizes a prince is interested in her daughter

+So there’s a dinner party and Sophie’s mom is being her insufferable self, but Justin is used to it, and he’s really interested in continuing his conversation with Lettie, but he doesn’t get to sit close enough to her at dinner so when the dancing starts, he has his obligatory dance with Sophie - and then one with Howl because the wizard is like “why do you only pay attention to Sophie” and sulks a little - and then goes to find Lettie, who is being nice to, but also trying to brush off a few marriage prospects her mother keeps sending her way

+So Justin cuts in and it’s not like you can say no to a prince so he asks Lettie to dance and she says yes because again you don’t really say no to a prince and she’s expecting him to lay on the charm to like get in good with Sophie, but he almost immediately jumps right back into their earlier conversation about trade clauses and taxation and she’s very surprised

+X: is this intentional wooing on his part because he knows she cares about it or is he genuinely interested in her thoughts?

+Absolutely genuine.

+Anyway the rest is like Justin discovering that just because Sophie is his one true love doesn’t mean she’s his Romantic one true love and that you can love more than one person at a time in more than one way

+Lettie can be considered radically liberal if she were to voice her opinions in some specific social clubs and Justin’s country has always been right leaning so she says some stuff that leaves him reeling and he just needs to know more

+I’m not saying that Lettie romances the heir of a country into changing political parties but I’m not not saying it either

+I also thinks it’s a Legally Blonde situation - Lettie def wants to marry this man but he’s not allowed to help her with school, he isn’t allowed to just give her money, and they don’t even announce their engagement until AFTER she graduates

+Which adds a whole new level of hilarity a la keeping it from her mom cause Justin proposes 6 months before Lettie graduates and they have to keep it hush hush so her mom doesn’t go blabbing about it

Alexander Price, the NHL’s youngest captain and Elijah Rodriguez, a figure skater-slash-food vlogger with seizure disorder certainly have an inauspicious first meeting when Price takes up the only accessible parking space at the ice rink. Alex feels bad and tries to make up for it by taking Eli out for lunch. From there, these two very different guys just barely out of their teen years form a strong friendship. But Eli, disabled and flamboyantly out of the closet for years, and Alex, who is well known for his abrasive and douchey behavior on and off the ice, seem awfully different.

But when the internet gets wind of, and is delighted by, this unlikely friendship, Alex’s carefully sculpted public persona begins to crumble and eventually he realizes someone might be worth coming out of the closet for.

The cast of characters are really what makes this book so special. From Alex with his hard exterior but soft-bro inside, to Eli who’s had a lot to deal with in his young life, to Alex’s best friend on his team who’s an outspoken LGBT ally and feminist, to the goofy and lovable Russian hockey player, to Eli’s solid best childhood friend, and of course Eli’s constant companion Hawk, a seizure detecting service dog, they’re all well developed. But really, it’s the friends to lovers storyline that brings this whole thing together.

Like Real People Do is such a warm hug of a book. An LGBT-friendly love letter to hockey bros, people trying to better themselves, healthy communication and service dogs.

I just finished reading Way Down We Go by xiaq and I'm completely obsessed with it. Easily one of my favorite and everything I craved for in Drarry but now with the added crossovers of my more recent interest: Good Omens, Jane Austen lines, and a freaking Pride and Prejudice moment?? Obsessed!! I've been down and beaten by the more angsty and tragic fics as I am currently on a Harry Potter x Draco Malfoy fanfiction marathon (again) and this was just a sweet treat for me. I keep thinking that somewhere along the way it will be unbearably angsty that will ruin my emotional disposition but it was well incredibly balanced. Just a lil bit of heartache but returned with a 10-fold amount of domestic sweetness (yes, that is my definition of balanced), what more could I ask for in a weekend read? I was so tired today after an outside activity which I thought would only last until lunchtime but the program was apparently an all day thing. So I got home, prepared pasta for dinner, left the dishes on the sink, and passed out feeling unsatisfied with my day. But I woke up at 2am again and hastily reached for my phone and continued reading and now my day (and life) is more complete than ever.
