Okay let's clear some things out; 1) I don't write smut bc I suck at it 2) this is part of a bigger story where the main character/reader gets to know Sihtric throughout several situations, so this is perfect if you want to read about Sihtric & reader's little made-up adventures but not so much if you're only here to read naughty stuff 😅 3) I have no idea what I'm doing :p
pic credits to myself, feel free to use them too/ask for originals (:

✵pairing: sihtric kjartansson x fem!reader
✵summary/small introduction: reader (she/her) is a Norse, Sihtric is a (actual, as in born there) Dane. Sihtric & reader meet each other for the very first time, but I kept it simple and kinda short so you'll have to keep on reading to find out how this goes (; [Side note: Yggr is one of my ocs and the Jarl/Chief of the group, but will not be a current character other than to accompany/give orders to Sihtric and reader]
✵tw: mentions of violence

characters info | part two
We were near; the tall cliffs once casting shadows over the sea were far behind us and the fog was getting thicker over the marshes. East Anglia was a land of fishermen huts, distant trees and bad weather: yet somewhere in this muddy land, a band of fiery fighters were hiding and getting ready to fight for their lord.
I recognized the stranded ship half covered in sand, which Yggr had described to me, surrounded by muddy rocks and a small spot of land untouched by the sea waters. Near the rocks, among tall reeds, the camp was set and a handful of men were sat around the bonfire in an attempt to fight the cold wind.
Except for one man.
A tall, dark haired man, covered in a fur cloak; his left hand was resting over the hilt of his sword as he stood near the coast, staring cautiously at our ship as if he was trying to tell who we were. But, as we approached the small island and the fog revealed Yggr’s wild hair, the mysterious man prepared to greet us.
The sail was taken down and the crew started to row against the current, sliding through the rather calm waves to take the ship towards the land. It didn’t take long for the prow to reach the sand and before we were fully beached, Yggr jumped off our ship to meet with the dark haired stranger.
He had a concerned expression and his hand remained over the hilt of his sword, ready to fight should the need arise. Yet, unlike him, Yggr was quick to smile and open his arms, embracing the now smirking Dane like a brother.
The man was Sihtric Kjartansson, a warrior that served the long haired blonde, though he treated him like a big stupid brother rather than as his lord and jarl. Both Danes had grew up together, sticking to each other as their parents seemed to care little next to nothing for the young boys, making it no surprise the concerned stranger was in command during the jarl’s absence.
I didn’t know much about him back then, only that he was a fine warrior and a loyal man; but I had also been told he was rather friendly and welcoming, yet Sihtric looked at me with wary eyes. I stared back at him, almost trying to decipher what was going on inside his mind: studying his gaze, the storm brewing inside his blue eye and the dancing flames around the pupil of his brown eye.
He had the face of a warrior, with scars running down from his forehead and marking the flesh over his deep cheekbones, making me wonder if he was hiding any other under the strands of hair over his temple or under the scarce beard around his rather full lips.
I had jumped on the wet sand of the island shortly after Yggr, however being the only woman among all those men, suddenly the warriors resting around the fire seemed eager to welcome our crew. Everyone but Sihtric, who embraced his lord for a while but pushed him away as his men came along with curious looks.
Unfortunately for everyone else, I was not to be touched or harmed: for I was there merely to help build the camp and eventually, should the strings of my destiny allow it, find the man that killed my family.
Tumblr media
The first birds of the day were singing their songs and the sun was setting, the land slowly revealing itself from the fog. It was a cold morning and it got worse as we had to get our feet wet in order to cross from shore to shore, but we were to stay unnoticed and therefore not to use our ship.
We were scouting the surrounding area, following the shore in hopes to find a bigger place to set a new camp. I was walking beside Yggr, with Sihtric a few paces before us to guide our way around; the rest of our group were either guarding our current camp or exploring other areas, though all of us were after the same goal.
The best hiding spots were among reeds, trees and muddy rocks, but those often surrounded water and the rising tides could be treacherous.
We saw stone ruins, abandoned churches and half burnt farms, all a consequence of folk escaping their homes in order to keep their lives, to escape the horrors brought by the monsters from across the sea.
Danes like us were plundering all of Britain; they came with the promise of riches and vengeance but stayed to become kings and killed anyone who opposed them. They had come here to do what that mad man had done to my family, my people.
I trusted Yggr’s words when he said he didn’t care about a title. He lost his chance to be king and decided to embrace a simple life, only hoping to find a nice place to thrive and stay unbothered by Saxons. Or so it was until the Great Heathen Army decided to terrorize the country, turning our heads into targets for anyone who caught us, Danes and Norse alike, wandering around.
We had stopped, suddenly. We were standing atop a small hill that went deeper in land, hoping to get a better view; the wind was blowing hard and the sun shone upon the land, easily revealing all areas of the territory.
Yggr remained silent, his mind lost somewhere in the dark blue waters from the ocean as the cold wind blew on his hair and beard. Sihtric stood next to me, his eyes narrowed because of the sun while he pointed his finger towards the tall roman ruins to the north.
—That looks like a good spot. —He said to Yggr then quickly looked my way, noticing I was the only one truly listening to him. It was, probably, the very first time he wasn’t eyeing me as if expecting me to take a knife to their throats. —I saw it before, but rain soaked the mud. It will take some work to stop that from happening again.
He had a very calming voice and explained all the work that had to be done for that old ruin to be a proper camp, though in truth all I could think about was the scars on his face: suggesting the man had been in many battles, despite being only a few winters older than Halfdan’s son.
—You two can go. —The blonde man interrupted, resting a hand on mine and Sihtric’s shoulder. —Find some horses and secure the camp, I’ll go find the men and meet you there with the ship.
—Just the two of us? —Sihtric sighed, despite trying to hide his discomfort. —What if the place has been taken? I can’t fight them with, no offense, a woman. —He glanced at me for a split second then stared back at Yggr, hoping to be released of my company.
—I am Norse. And my father raised a warrior, not a weak girl that needs some Dane’s protection. —I snarled back, watching as my words damaged his pride and brought a wide smile to our Jarl.
Tumblr media
The only horses we could find belonged to a group of Danes camping in Theotford, a small town with thatched roofs and a run-down church that once sheltered Saxons.
There was about twenty of them, maybe more, standing watch in every corner and every small gap they could find.
—I am not “some Dane”, I’m a warrior too. —He finally added, remembering our earlier conversation.
—You’re the son of Kjartan, right? —I let out and he gave me a grim look then proceeded to avoid my glance, still walking between the tall grasses.
—We’re never going to make it out alive if we try to take one of their horses. There’s too many of them. —And he was right, those were trained warriors and we were merely a pair of lost dogs to them. —The ruins are not too far, we should get there before Yggr if we walk in a straight line and avoid following main roads.
And just like that, our short journey through the autumnal forests of East Anglia began. We walked through shrubs, trees, short walls made of stone and saw a few deer, but there was no sight of other people anywhere. We avoided getting too close to farms or church ruins, trying to remain silent whenever our surroundings were suspiciously quiet.
—So tell me, Dane, how did you end up in Norway? —I interrupted, getting a judging stare from him when he caught me walking closely by his side.
—He told you we should get to know each other, right? —He asked dismissively, moving a few steps ahead of me.
—He suggested we should get along if we’re to live together in the same camp, but you’re not as friendly as he promised.
A hint of a smirk showed on his face, though it didn’t last long. —My father sold information to Halfdan and left me in Alrekstad to either die or be raised by the king’s servants. —He admitted after a while, looking troubled as he spoke.
—There are worst destinies than to be raised with Yggr, I suppose. —I said and saw him grinning at my comment, finally showing some sort of emotion in my presence.
—What about you, Stavanger? —He taunted, making it obvious that our fool of a Jarl told him about my homeland and, therefore, my newly acquired nickname.
—That’s my homeland, yes. But I come from the Isle of Ikke, a once thriving city to the north of Stavanger.
—Then what brought you to Alrekstad?
—Vengeance. —I said cheerfully, but he gave me a concerned look in return.
Some bonus fun facts:
✯Yggr is the son of Halfdan, King of Alrekstad (modern Årstad, in Norway). He's not inspired by any TLK character, though he has a similar personality and looks to Ragnar The Younger, with some of Cnut's silly sense of humour. Yggr was to inherit his father's throne, but has no issue embracing a simpler life - even though his former position as a prince and charisma turned him into his Clan's Jarl (basically an english Earl, but a Jarl can also be someone trusted by its people and chosen as a chief).
✯Reader was born in a small island in Norway (Ikke, which is totally made up hehe) but her family was massacred when she was a baby, so she grew up seeking vengeance.
✯Sihtric isn't a bastard but his mother died giving birth to him and so Kjartan despises him/never properly treated him as his son (nor did he to Sven but he grew up to be just as his father and so Kjartan eventually accepted him as his son).
✯As this story is unrelated to what happens in TLK, I had Kjartan vanished from Denmark; though he became wealthy again by playing the pirate in other territories and selling information to kings as Halfdan, Harald Fairhair and few more across the sea...

OK, BUT KAEYA’S LORE?????
I'd just lowered my expectations for the Hidden Strife quest and hyv gives us more crumbs. I’m one happy girl. Time to theorize! There are maaaany implications about where the story can leads us with this new info.
Spoilers ahead!
Let’s talk about Kaeya first bc he’s my best boy. My understanding is that Kaeya's right eye can somehow identify him as Khaenri'ah. He was already playing pirate before his eye was injured, which is very ironic not only because of his lie, but also because of Khaenri'ah's whole one-eye symbolism.
So... Does he have a very specific type of heterochromia that only occurs in a select group of Khaenri'ahns or a seal in his eye or what? He wore an eye patch long before his eye was injured, and it’s implied that he showed Diluc his eye as proof of his identity, SO?
There’s also the discovery that the Alberich Clan are regent royals rather than actual royals. Kaeya doesn’t really have royal blood, but his clan is the one in charge at the moment.
I've speculated before that Kaeya's family, or whoever survived the cataclysm, is conducting experiments to either break the curse or strengthen themselves to overthrow the gods. We don't know if that's the case, but I find it interesting that the letter Kaeya kept says, “although he could not restore Khaenri’ah to life”, meaning they've already tried that?
I also thought that maybe they were overconfident in their abilities and knowledge, which I think is possible since the rest of the letter says, “We of the Alberich Clan should lead lives as those who blaze like fire rather than those who wallow in the embers.” It seems that the Alberich clan acts on their own, but still have Khaenri’ah’s best interests in mind.
Another minor detail that can meaning nothing: in the letter, it says ‘when the strength of the one-eyed king Irmin failed’. This can be just how they talk, but in the context of the letter it looks as if the Alberich clan considered themselves more capable of ruling a nation than the king and seized the opportunity to take command after the fall of the Eclipse dynasty.
I wonder how much Kaeya knows about the curse, the Abyss Order, and everything else concerning his people.
I've a feeling that he was trained as a spy as a child (and probably a warrior too since he has a different type of swordsmanship) and probably was born just for the purpose of... Destroying the gods? Avenging his people? Exposing the true of the world? We still don't know exactly what the Alberich clan wants.
The king of Khaenri’ah
We also have a name for the one-eyed king: Irmin, which is VERY interesting, because you know... Irminsul trees?
They're sacred trees that act as pillars between heaven and earth, and in Genshin also store memories of the world and give blessings to people (like the eternal grinding we do in this game because we're all crazy).
I did a little research and in Old Norse Irmin is called Jǫrmunr, which is also known as Yggr, one of Odin's names. There are many connections, so this is a very brief explanation.
I'm far from an expert on Germanic/Nordic mythology, but from what I've read, Odin travels to the roots of Yggdrasil and trades his eye in Mimir's well for knowledge. He gains a divine wisdom and a recognized perception of the world, even though he lacks an eye. This also gives him some powers...
Can the king Irmin in Genshin have done something similar? He gained a terrifying amount of knowledge and Celestia felt threatened by it? He has close relations to the Imirnsul trees and Celestia didn’t approve of that since they wanted to create a world suitable for them?
It is implied that the gods had several reasons to destroy Khaenri'ah - their advanced technology, their alleged thirst for knowledge, the experiments of Gold, their claim of being a godless nation...
Jean calls the king of Khaenri'ah "heroic," so maybe he wasn't so bad, and the people around him, like the sages and alchemists and probably unknown forces, were the ones in the wrong.
The Alberich Clan
Alberich is a dwarf who's the "ruler of supernatural beings", which makes more sense to me now. Kaeya's clan is the ruler of the present day Khaenri'ah, a nation now made up of supernatural beings.
If Genshin is going by the multiple epic tales featuring Alberich, I think the Alberich clan has magical artifacts or some other kind of power than we’ve known so far. They tried to restore Khaenri’ah and failed, so they might have started to search for power somewhere else.
They might have created them with Gold’s help? In Der Ring des Nibelungen, Alberich steals gold from the Rhinemaidens in the river Rhein and forges a magical ring. I don’t know if Genshin is going to follow this, but I find the connections very interesting. We’ve Rhinedottir and Alberich in the game, so maybe?
Also, Kaeya talks about a sword his grandfather had that gives its wielder unlimited power. This could be something like the Tyrfing, a powerful magic sword in Norse mythology, or could this be an allegory for Dainsleif?
I say this because Dainslief is the sword of Hogni, the Old Norse name of Hagen, who's depicted as the son of Alberich. He’s half-human and half-something (sometimes elft, sometimes dwarf?), and there are some theories that Kaeya isn't fully Khaenri'ahn, because he has a different appearance.
Maybe Kaeya and Dain will team up eventually? I would love to see that.
A bit more about the eyepatch
When Pierro appeared with a mask covering his right eye, I thought it might be a custom of Khaenri’ah to show that they belong to a select group associated with royalty. Dain doesn't cover his eye and because he was only a knight, but still connected to royalty bc he was a royal guard, he wore a different outfit.
But Kaeya's right eye, as we know, seems to be important, so maybe it wasn't just a custom. Maybe there's indeed a connection between Pierro and Kaeya and maybe the Alberich clan was looking for the same source of power as the king of Irmin and in return their right eye was corrupted.
This may also be a side effect of the curse, as Dain seems to have been corrupted on his right side. Since Khaenri’ah worshipped the one-eyed king, was their right eye (or the entire right side) corrupted first or in some other way? It would be a very specific condition for the curse, but Celestia is known to be a bit sadistic, so...

I know I hung on the gust-beat gallows/ nine full nights,/ gashed with a stake and given to fire-see,/ myself to myself,/ on that ash-tree of which none know/ from where the roots rise. ~ Odin’s Shaman Song.
Here is what Barbara Walker has to say about the Hanged Man:
A man dressed like the Fool hangs from a beam between two trees by one leg, the other leg bent in the Hermetic figure-4 position. His hands are bound behind his back, but his facial expression is peaceful. Bunches of grapes hang with him, suggesting sacraments of Dionysus. Two towers appear in a landscape like that of the Moon card. Hanging by one leg was the medieval custom of “baffling,” a nonlethal punishment bringing disgrace, like a sojourn in the stocks. Like the ritual humiliation in many types of initiation, this may have been a symbolic death-andrebirth, designed to make the novice hear his own heartbeat, which Far Eastern mystics called “the sound of power.” The basis of all rhythm, it is heard even by fetal ears in the womb. The heart’s inner “dance” was the dancing god in Chidambaram, the Cave of the Heart. In ancient Egypt, a figure with one leg bent like the Hanged Man’s was the hieroglyphic sign of dancing and of the Mother-given heart soul (ab). The Hanged Man’s gallows dance is therefore a mock martyrdom, interpreted as a sacrifice for a good purpose, patient as a sacrifice for a good purpose, patient endurance, silent suffering, and life at low ebb.
What I find interesting about this card is the idea that through suffering one can find Aufklärung (your own Age of Enlightenment.) Because basically everything in Christianity has been plagiarized from much better source material, the Codex Regius describes how Odin hung himself on the Yggdrasil (World Tree) in his quest for enlightenment, giving up an eye in order to be able to read the Runes. One of the titles given to Odin is, “Yggr the Terrible,” from which we get the word Ogre.
They did not comfort me with bread nor with a drinking horn: I looked down, I took up the runes, shrieking their names I fell back from there.
I got nine mighty songs from the famous son of Bolthorn, Bestla's father, and I got a drink of precious mead sprinkled as from the heart.
Then I began to thrive and bear wisdom I grew and prospered; Each word drew another word from me, each deed drew another deed from me.
For me what is important about this card is the concept of surrendering every notion of how you think the universe work in order to learn something new. Sacrificial pain cuts through the mundane dogma of all you’ve been taught in school or books (ie., other people’s wisdom that you try to claim as your own) to reveal whatever light your higher self is trying to show you.

2021 CGI King Grayskull inspiration
Tumblr media
CGI King Grayskull is a interesting character, perhaps the most interesting version (due to being both a hero and villain, and it making sense), and he has a number of inspirations both in MOTU sources and those outside it.
Out of versions of King Grayskull, the DC comics one seems to have the most influence (which has sense Rob David large part in making both), were several characters stated King Grayskull was not as noble as it seemed. The issue being though, the two people stating it were not really reliable sources - Hordak and King Hiss (impersonating/wearing the skin of Adi, him doing it to persuade Saryn and other Gar to kill Grayskull).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Still, this caused He-Ro to have given a way disproportionate punishment, seemingly committing genocide against the Gar, and declaring them legal pariahs and exiles, even striping them from the ability to name themselves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, the Gar were also lead to commit horrible acts when lead/corrupted by King Hiss (impersonating Adi), but that's not a rational reaction, or proportional punishment.
About He-Ro, CGI King Grayskull, in many ways resembles an older He-Ro - he is a dark haired man in golden armor, wielding both the Sword of Power and a magic staff (as Grayskull stated he used the Havoc Staff even before infusing it with Havoc, making me think it's meant to be a corrupted version of He-Ro's staff, even resembling it in it's uncorrupted/dormant and semi-dormant form), as well as being both a warrior and sorcerer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Making me think he is a composite character of He-Ro and King Grayskull, very probably taking inspiration from the 200X comics which were to do the same (ie revealing King Grayskull is an older He-Ro).
Tumblr media
And with 200x MOTU, King Grayskull's helmet is also based on the one Randor wore as a captain in the 2002 cartoon, and as a prince during war in MOTUC comics:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Outside of MOTU, King Grayskull also is quite similar to Odin in Norse/Germanic mythology, and Marvel comics (and their adaptations):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Odin also has darker aspects, both in Marvel - seen as for example in Thor: Ragnarok, that Odin was a genocidal war criminal far in past. Or in myths that Odin was willingly sacrifice much and many, to give gods and humans a chance to survive Ragnarok, and in general despite having empathetic traits in myths, was heavily pragmatic. Odin's darker aspects are even visible in some of his names - Ginnarr (Deciever), Yggr (Terrible One), Draugadróttinn (Lord of the Undead), as well as his role as a god of death and dead (which is often overlooked).
Curiously King Grayskull also resembles gbagok's partly Odin-based semi-fan character, the All-Father (leader of the Ancients and brother to Nordor/Horde Prime):
Tumblr media
Semi, as he is based on the (seeming) leader Magic Kings from ancient Eternia, whose spirits now inhabit the Anti-World, and who were implied to be the Ancients. These characters are from the German He-Man/MOTU comics.
Tumblr media
It also does seem his helmet did inspire Randor's in the 2002 cartoon.
[EDIT: As clarified by @toonjukka, while designs of Randor's and the leading Magic King, are unrelated - as German comics only became available online in 2004, years after the production of the 2002 series pilot "The Beginning"]
Another Golden Armored Demigod could inspire CGI King Grayskull - the Emperor of Mankind of Warhammer 40k:
Tumblr media
Like the Emperor of Mankind, King Grayskull is a well-intentioned extremist, who hypocritical used the power of what he fought against (ie King Grayskull proto-Havoc of the Snake Men; the Emperor either made a deal with the Chaos Gods for more knowledge and/or power, in order to arm himself against them, and broke it, or stole their knowlege and power). The Emperor though was not overtaken by Chaos.
Both also ended up as skeletons guarded by their most loyal servants (and some thinking/hoping he would come back), and both are remembered as saintly, when in fact they weren't, and their message was misunderstood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Well, King Grayskull became a "bone-head" even before death...)

~From the earliest times he was a war god, protector of heroes; fallen warriors joined him in Valhalla. But he was also the great magician among the gods and is associated with runes, knowledge, wisdom, and veterans. He is concidered king of the gods/Aesir, the "All Father", and both trickster and protector of Asgard and Midgard. Though he is the son of two giants, he is Aesir, probably because his grandfather (esentially) was one of the first gods. With his mother decending from Ymir and his his Giant father was decended from Audumbla. -The Nornes carved runes into the wood of the tree Yggdrasil's trunk, to influence the fate of destiny. Odin became envious of their ability -but the runes don't show themselves easily- To prove himself, Odin was pierced to the wood of the great ash tree, where he hung for 9 windy days and nights, refusing any who offered aid. Finally, Odin fell off the tree and into the well below, screaming as he clutched the runes to his chest, and at the end of the 9th night -after teetering on the edge of life and death- he understood the runes.
With this knowledge, he was able to heal, quell grief, make blunt even the sharpest blade, break any felters that may bind him, hold/catch arrows mid-flight, turn poison onto another, protect others from naked flame, quench fury, quiet winds, storms, waves, and the seas, to drive witches and the Nornes mad, too keep friends from harm in battle, to walk and talk with those who have hung, to make a warrior invisible, to know all Aesir and Elves, to make a woman lust and ensure a maiden stays, and finally an ability he would not tell. -At the bottom of the well Odin was told by Mimir that he could drink from its knowledge-giving water, but only with the sacrifice of one of his eyes. His eyes were pale blue and were the color of the sky on a winter's day, when the frost is still on the ground. His eyes could pick out the tiniest bird miles and miles away, across the frozen tundra, if a human or god looked him in the eyes, they could not but feel a kind of awe. But, in the end, he did have two of them. So, he plucked out his eye and the head of his uncle allowed him to drink the water.
Odin instantly saw everything that had and will happen, and though there was good and bad news, he simply laughed with happiness when he saw the joy that would come to him. -He has two ravens; Huginn (thought) and Muninn (memory). He sends them out at dawn and they fly all over the world, before returning home at dinner to report back what they had seen -Odin was lonely during his travels and battles so he created Geri (greedy one) and Freki (ravenous one), and they stand by his side and ensure the Aesir king's safety and its said they populated the earth with their offspring -making wolves and dogs- -Loki's eight legged flying horse child -Sleipnir- was given to the king as a gift. It's teeth are inscribed with runes, and it has the ability to gallop through all skies and seas with its many legs, super-strength, speed, durability and endurance.

The sun was hiding behind clouds and a thin layer of snow covered the hills around us. It was cold, the wind crawled under my clothes and a shiver climbed my spine as their eyes were on me.
We had just arrived to Repton, yet the little army under Ivarr and Ubba's command was far more cautious than that of Tamworth. And as their famously reckless Lord stood proud before us, the rabid dogs followed close behind.
There were no children, no wives. Only soldiers dressed in mail, their Lord's most trusted hounds.
—And what of her? Is she your gift to me? —Ivarr asked almost too proud of himself and I was ready to bite back, but Sihtric was quicker to answer.
—She’s my woman. —He said. I frowned, his words still echoing in my head.
—Slave girl? —The Ragnarsson grinned, his eyes fixed on my expression. —Either that or she hates your cock.
Sihtric then gave me a strange look, his hand finding its way along my back and stopping where my butt joined my back, pulling me awkwardly closer to his side. —We’re just tired, it was a long journey from Theotford.
Surprisingly, he seemed to bite on Sihtric’s lie, while I pictured myself with a knife going through the Dane's throat.
—So, why are you here? Guthrum isn’t treating his hounds right?
—We got word that a son of Ragnar had taken Repton, so we thought to serve a true dane lord was better than to follow a stupid man to his defeat.
We knew nothing about Guthrum; not the colour of his banner nor the look of the man’s face. But it was easy to make up a lie when the man himself wasn’t there to deny it, though in truth Guthrum would’ve embraced us as his warriors as long as we looked like Danes.
Ivarr was hesitant, like dry weeds waiting on a spark to set ablaze. Yet he welcomed the fire, not afraid to get burnt.
—Ha! —He said loudly, his gaze studying me with curiosity as he crossed his arms. —And you, woman? Can you fight? Or are you only here to please this pretty warrior? —He finished as he looked at Sihtric, but he was out of words.
—The son of Ragnar wants me to teach him how to use his axe? —I snapped back happily, but my man, the one I wasn’t aware I had, was concerned about Ivarr’s deadly stare.
—I love sassy bitches, you can stay. —He smiled widely, as the men around us joined their lord with a grin. —Same for you, pretty boy.

Everything was blurry; the candles provided the room with a gloomy light and the flickering flames made the shadows around us deeper than they really were, like if whole territories hid among that darkness.
It made me wonder about the unknown, all that is hidden from plain sight but lurks in the blackness of the night. The wild beasts, the magic creatures, and all else that is hidden to us mortals.
I could hear the voices from the drunken warriors around me, their laughter, their joy after a succesful battle. The sound of wooden jars and metal clashing as they celebrated with ale, their harsh steps on the floor.
I was hearing Sihtric as he talked, telling me one more time stories about all his battles, all he had conquered to get here, to England. All about the raids: priceless treasures, gold-filled chests and wealthy norse fools ready to give everything up if only to escape an unneccesary fight, all that he'd managed to steal for himself after years of serving under Yggr's banner.
I watched as he wrapped his hands around the mug and a puddle of ale drenched the linen around his arms, yet he didn't seem to care. A tattoo showed from under his sleeve, an interesting shape playing in the shadow and hiding from the candle light. He simply kept on talking, ever proud and happy about his stories, his life.
Maybe it was the ale, maybe there was something in the air that night, but his words sounded funny in my ears. He was explaining how he once cut off a man's hand with an axe: the splatter of blood, the horror in that man's voice as he screamed out of pain. But all I could hear was a mumble, his attempt at sounding coherent while the ale made its way through his throat.
And so, I laughed. Sihtric's response was to look at me with a frown, then proceeded to burst out laughing with me.
He suddenly stopped and went completely quiet, worrying me for a moment that perhaps I was the reason of such a sudden change in his reaction, though nothing about his glare betrayed whatever was going on inside the man's head.
A young girl walked in our direction, trying hard to avoid Sihtric's eyes. She was skinnier than the others, with skin as white as snow and several bruises dyeing the flesh around her neck, making it no surprise that she was so afraid of the drunken warriors surrounding her. But she was there to serve drinks and so she would.
Her trembling hands made their best to hold the jar firmly and fill his cup, avoiding eye contact with the fearsome man before me. Yet when she was done and ready to escape, his hand wrapped around her wrist.
For whatever reason, I felt as if fire burnt inside of me; but I couldn't recall what was causing such a feeling, nor could I stop myself from standing up, as if something else was controlling my body.
—You're too pretty to be working at this stinking alehouse. —He said while pulling her closer, watching as the poor girl's panic intensified. —There's nothing to fear, woman, wouldn't you rather be with me than serving all these bastards?
There was a glimpse of a smile on his face, despite the terror in her eyes. He was a good man, for a drunken fool, and would've easily let her go if asked to: but that's not what those women were used to around there, so she was desperately looking for a way out.
So I took his mug in my own hand, spilling all its content on the floor. And his confused reaction was priceless.
—You better have a real good reason for that bullshit, y/n. —He stood up, freeing the girl's wrist, though she was still too frightened by him to go away.
—You're trying to hump some random girl and expect me to act as if I didn't care? —I asked with pride in my voice, though struggling to figure out what those words were supposed to mean.
He frowned again, probably trying to remain offended but failing miserably as a silly smile appeared on his face.
—We're supposed to be together, don't you remember, my love? —My words made no sense, yet they seemed sufficient for him, even if Ivarr and Ubba were too far from us to hear anything we were saying.
—Right! —His eyes widened up and he quickly took a step further from the girl, resting his hand on the messy table. —It's just that I'm so in love with you and to touch you would mean to ruin your pure beauty.
To this day I still don't quite remember what happened that night, nor do I recall when did the scared girl left us and ran back to the owner of that shithole of an alehouse. But I do, however, remember how he started to laugh mid-lie and looked down on his empty mug, only to remember I was the cause of it.
—Or perhaps my dear husband struggles to use his plow sword with his beloved wife. —I snarled back and once again he let out a noisy laugh then went quiet when he realized I had meant no compliment by that.
—Are you challenging me? —He asked with a playful smirk, leaning closer as I wrapped my arms around his neck and tangled my fingers on his hair.
My heart was beating hard: surprised at the shiver running through my body as I felt his skin on the tip of my fingers. And, for the first time since I’ve met him, something about his gaze felt different.
The candle light reflected on his face, his brown eye looking warm and inviting while the other side was ever bright, sea waters dancing within his eye.
His breath smelt of ale and his hands were getting a little too comfortable around my waist, but that didn’t stop me from reaching for his lips; even as he teased me, pressing the tip of his nose to my cheek, but avoiding my touch.
Sihtric’s kiss was full of warmth and necessity, feeling as his hands roughly pressed me onto his body. So I gave in.

Elden Ring and Norse Lore, pt. 6 - Erdtree
(Note that the following text is fully my own interpretation based on my knowledge and understanding on the topics to be discussed!)
As shortly referred earlier, it is quite obvious the Erdtree could be a reference to the world tree Yggdrasill, as well as the previously described golden tree Glasir in Valhöll. Like the Erdtree seen and known in the game (youtuber Zullie the Witch has estimated the Erdtree to be about five kilometers tall), Yggdrasill is explained to be a colossal sacred tree in the center of creation. By looking at the full map of the Lands Between the Erdtree truly is in the middle.
Tumblr media
The following information is found from Völuspá, stanza 19:
“An ash I know, Yggdrasil its name, with water white is the great tree wet; Thence come the dews that fall in the dales, green by Urth's well does it ever grow.”
The stanza also mentions Yggdrasill’s dew which could be associated with Sacred Tears, the blessings of the Erdtree.
Yggdrasill’s roots are said to extend to the underworlds of Helheimr and Niflheimr, and across Miðgarðr as told in Grímnismál’s stanzas 31 and 35:
“Three roots there are that three ways run 'neath the ash-tree Yggdrasil; 'neath the first lives Hel, 'neath the second the frost-giants, 'neath the last are the lands of men.”
“Yggdrasil's ash great evil suffers, far more than men do know; The hart bites its top, its trunk is rotting, and Nithhogg gnaws beneath.”
While traveling across the Lands Between it is seen that the roots of the Erdtrees indeed reach everywhere.
Stanza 35 mentions the dragon Níðhöggr, gnawing and poisoning Yggdrasill’s roots. Within the Deeproot Depths the death blight-corrupted Lichdragon Fortissax is found, guarding Godwyn’s corpse. When Godwyn the Golden died, becoming the Prince of Death, he simultaneously infected the Erdtree’s roots and sprouted the Deathroots across the Lands Between. I see this as analogous to Níðhöggr’s role as a world tree defiling death dragon.
Tumblr media
In Old Norse texts it is said the gods and goddesses have þingar, assembled meetings where they would discuss and decide about important matters, hosted in the vicinity of Yggdrasill (these þingar were actual events in around old Scandinavia). When the player enters Morgott the Omen King’s boss arena, a cutscene shows the arena to have multiple chairs circling around. I believe it is most likely that Queen Marika has held similar meetings there with her current husband and demigod children.
By investigating the translation of the name Yggdrasill, new interesting connections can be made. In Grímnismál’s stanza 54 Óðinn lists his known names, one of them being Yggr. As drasill translates to horse, the name Yggdrasill itself translates to Yggr’s/Óðinn’s steed/horse. The translation itself is generally acknowledged kenning for gallows as Hávamál´s stanza 138 in Poetic Edda describes how Óðinn hanged himself from Yggdrasill’s branches:
“I ween that I hung on the windy tree, hung there for nights full nine; With the spear I was wounded, and offered I was to Othin, myself to myself.”
However there are theories that question if Óðinn was actually hanged as Hávamál, or any other Eddaic text for that matter, doesn’t straightforwardly state that he would’ve literally done it. These theories suggest that Óðinn was crucified instead, but I myself don’t believe this to be the case. There is actual evidence of human sacrifices from the Viking Era and none of these examples explain people being crucified but hanged instead.
Tumblr media
Hanged or crucified, I find it interesting that Marika/Radagon is hanging by his hands in a crucifix like manner inside the Erdtree when entering Elden Ring’s final boss arena. Additionally he is pierced by a spear of sorts just like Óðinn was (or Jesus in christian mythology). As Marika/Radagon is the main deity of Elden Ring and Óðinn of Norse mythos, the connection between the Erdtree and Yggdrasill is quite easy to make.

Yes I am thinking about Troll Kalla Mik for violinspector and the war trio so so so much. Spooky mystery Scandinavian energy. Lyf being fully otherworldly, showing Marius or Tim and Bertie around night fallen woods and meeting other beings.
They call me troll: "dwelling-Hrungnir's moon", "the giant's wealth-sucker", "bale of the storm-sun", "the seeress' delightful company", "guard of the corpse-fjord", "swallower of the heavenly wheel"
What's a troll, but this?
They call me skald: "smith of Viðurr's ship", "finder of Gautr's gift", "unscanty man", "bearer of Yggr's beer"
"Móði's creator in poetry", "skilled smith of verses"
What's a skald, but this?
They blended honey and blood together And created that kind of mead which Makes everyone who drinks this a poet and a wise man
troll lyf skald marius........

Pics: Notes on Lovecraft's viking translation!
1. Ragnar's real name was Ragnarr ("warrior") Lothbrok ("hairy pants").
He lived in the 800s AD & became King of Sweden & Denmark.
But, most that we know about him is from Norse legends & chronicles written sometime after his death in Northumbria, England - in 856 AD?
But, there was a Ragnar who sacked Paris in 845 AD...
2. Vikings is a 'historical' Canadian TV series filmed in Ireland.
It lasted 6 seasons & has a sequel series Vikings: Valhalla.
Both series are inspired by Ragnar's & his sons's 'lives.'
3. We're lucky to have a few sculptures & other art that help us see what some of the mighty & mythological looked like in ancient times.
Of course, not everyone was so immortalized.
So, 1 of the many goals of professional archaeology...
4. When Ragnar killed his dragon, he was protected from its venom by wearing fur britches dipped in pitch ("coal tar") & rolled in sand...
5. Breeches are short trousers that reach to just below one's knee.
They were popular in Europe during Medieval times.
Now worn for riding horses or as part of ceremonial dress during certain holidays.
6. An epicedium is generally any warrior's death song.
This particular 1 was among the 1st Norse poems to be translated into English.
It's certainly 1 of the most quoted viking tales.
Archaeologists have traced this poem back to Iceland.
This is as far west as his story originally reached.
But, there's also the Krakumal or "The Lay (short heroic poem) of Kraka," Ragnar's 2nd wife.
This was written in the 1100s AD & is thought to come from Scotland.
7. Olaus Wormius's name was actually Ole ("heir of the ancestors") Orme ("worm").
He was a 1600s Danish physician, historian & antiquarian who made important contributions to medical, historical & literary writings.
HPL name dropped Wormius - as a translator of the Necronomicon!
But, Howard thought, incorrectly, that Wormius lived during the 1200s AD.
8. Gothland, Gautland or Geatland is 1 of the 3 historical Swedish lands.
Now, it's divided into 10 provinces.
Geat is Swedish for "they who pour out their seed!"
Read into that what you will...
Beowulf ("bear wolf") is an example of a legendary Geat king.
9 & 10. Oreon & Diminum have, so far, eluded my attempts at translation & my efforts at finding them anywhere that I can reach.
11. The ravenous eagle mentioned here has 2 possibilities:
A. The Jotunn ("ice giant") Hraesvelgr ("corpse swallower") who, could transform into a giant eagle.
Sitting atop Yggdrasil ("Odin's horse"), this giant creates the world's winds by flapping his wings.
Yggdrasil is the World Tree, which 'connected' the 9 worlds.
(This is thought to be the Norse view of seeing the Milky Way at night, when it appears to be a long glowing river or branch.)
But, it has a darker meaning as well.
Yggdrasil is Norse slang for "the gallows!"
Odin gained his 'wisdom' by hanging himself from Yggdrasil.
Yggr ("the terrifying one") is just a nickname of Odin's - as Lord of the Berserkers.
B. The other eagle is Odin himself! As he also has the nicknames of Orn, "eagle" & Arnhofthi, "eagle headed!!"
Woden/Wotan is just an earlier Anglo- Saxon version of "Odin." He was a War God & Protector of Heroes.
This name has been traced back to a Proto-German language, in the form of Wothanaz, "Lord of the Frenzied" & "Leader of the Possessed" - the 'mad' Berserkers again.
12. The Vistula ("slow flowing?") is the longest river in Poland & is an import- ant part of this country's cultural identity.
The phrase "Country Upon Vistula" is a nickname of Poland.
13. The Hall of Odin is Valhalla ("hall of the slain"), where heroes get to fight all day & feast all night!
Warriors where brought here by Valkyries ("choosers of the slain"), who judged which fighter was worthy of this honor.
And here they would remain, all preparing for Ragnarok ("twilight of the Gods") & its final battle - when all of creation would sink burning into the seas...
Luckily, with time, a new Age would appear out of all the destruction.
And, new Gods & mortals would awake to a glorious new dawn.
If this sounds very Christian to you, just remember that these myths were written down in the 1200s AD - 200 years after Iceland (the last holdout of the Norse religion) finally accepted Christianity.
14. The Helsingians are still around! They're the inhabitants of Helsinki, Sweden.
15. Bucklers are small, round, portable shields used as a 2nd weapon!
They were useful for 'stopping' an enemy's sword arm up against their own body!!
Or, to bloody an opponent's nose or blind an eye! It could even parry their blows & hinder their movements.
Weird Bit: The Welsh used small leather shields with a central iron spike called a boss...
How come I didn't see these in Brave- Heart?
16. Herauclus remains stubborn to find, though it sounds like a Norse version of the Latin Hercules!
'Officially,' the Norse Hercules was thought to be Magni, son of Thor!!
He's 1 of the children of Thor's 1st wife Jarnsaxa ("iron dagger") & saves his father when 3 days?/years? old!
Along with very few other Gods, Magni survives Ragnarok!!
But, there's actually a whole bunch of Norse 'men' that could stand in for the Grecian hero:
A. Barbatus, "the Bearded."
B. Batavos, "from the lower Rhine River."
C. Deusonianus, "from the town of Deuso."
D. Invictus, "the Victorious."
E. Magusanus, "the Mighty."
F. Maliator, "the Club Thrower."
G. Saxanus, "of the Mountain."
17. Scarfians originated from Skarphe in eastern Greece. Due to Roman influence, these folk moved to Italy - especially around Sicily & Catania.
From there, these families also moved out to Celtic Gaul - modern France.
There, they fought the Vikings at what would become Normandy.
Though this surname remains rare (a- round 190 people today), Scarfians have spread to the Americas as well...
18. Ragno translates as Rufus, Latin for "red headed."
However, this is not William Rufus - who was King William the 3rd & reigned til 1100 AD, some 250 years after Ragnar's time.
Genetically, red haired folk were found in Scandinavia, Mycenaean Greece & Central Asia...
19 & 20. The Indirian Islands & the Plain of Lano remain deep secrets of history.
Perhaps, in the future, such info will be freely available for comments.
21. "Balder ("hero prince") is best known for his death bringing about Ragnarok!!
But, we're after different game here.
Ragnar seems to imply that Balder is his 'father'!
Of course, this has been done since the Egyptians & Sumerians 1st started this deification & separation of our societies's leaders.
And, the idea has been tried with other Norse Gods - Odin's Volsungs, Frey's Ynglings, etc...
Of course, "Father Balder(!)" could just be a pious exclamation with no other meaning.
You be Forseti ("the presiding one"), judge of the Norse Gods & only son of Balder?!
22. Aelle/Ella was King of North- umbria during the 850s AD.
Hearing that Ragnar had surrendered at Wessex, Ella had the prisoner brought to him.
Then, Ella tortured Ragnar for days. But, Ragnar remained stoically silent.
So, Ella threw Ragnar into a pit of poisonous vipers & Ragnar finally responded - by singing out his death song...
23. The Norse Goddess of Death was usually Hela, the half dead Queen of Helheim.
But, this isn't who Ragnar wants to drink ale with!
Hela only collects the cowardly & those who didn't die in battle.
No, Ragnar is speaking about his personal Valkyrie!
These minor Goddesses of Death controlled who was accepted into the ranks of Valhalla.
The 'dead' champions were needed to help battle the Jotunn during a future Ragnarok.
Anyway, Valkyries acted as servants to the fighting souls of Valhalla.
When Ragnarok arrived , the Valkyries would join the major Norse Gods in their desperate last battle...
