I’m starting to wonder if the themes of storytelling in Neverafter and the authors is related to the way that Brennan keeps bringing us back to the beginnings of D20 and Fantasy High. Probably not but! Parallels between Neverafter and Fantasy High:

• Fantasy High: Aguefort describes the importance of chronomancy on the first day, pausing time is later hugely important in battle. Neverafter: Drosselmeyer’s clockwork carriage halts time allowing PiB to explore

• All level one characters, many of whom are meeting for the first time

• First battles: all level one, heavily featuring furniture

• Palimpsest!!

I’ve been rewatching episodes of both and I keep finding things. The big bad wolf and the ending of things from the seven. PCs and NPCs alike grappling with why bad things happen to good people. It might just be my brain connecting dots BUT they’re fun dots to keep spotting

Speaking of tying episodes together—The DENNIS System takes place right after Mac and Dennis Break Up because Dennis starts pursuing chicks more seriously and violently as an attempt to shake the Gang’s suspicions that he’s in love with Mac. Then in Reignites the Rivalry Dennis is once again confronted with homophobia (I chug dick no that’s—thats homophobic!) pushing him further off the deep end, only exacerbated by Mac Fights Gay Marriage, driving him to force himself into an idealized hetero relationship with Maureen. But in the end he returns to Mac—he’ll always return to Mac, no matter how much he hates himself for it.
