When you break down their character stereotypes, Sokka and Zuko actually make perfect sense together.

Like- Sokka is the comedic one. The one known to lighten every mood.

And Zuko is the moody, strung up one. The one who is always serious, never laughs, never lightens up.

So of course they’d work well together. Sokka would help loosen Zuko up, and Zuko would help ground Sokka. These stereotypes are paired together in media all the time. (aka grumpy x sunshine one)

Literally, if one of them was a woman… they would’ve been canon.

as most of us in the ATLA fandom know by now, there's gonna be both an adult gaang movie coming out at some point and the live action netflix show in 2024

and I may be connecting some dots

for the adult gaang movie:

1: we don't know who Izumi's other parent is besides zuko

2: TLOK comics say that zuko worked to outlaw homophobic laws input by sozin

3: we have no idea if sokka and suki stayed together/had kids

4: in the ATLA comics zuko and mai break up, and reconcile- but don't get back together

5: ATLA has always been ahead of its time in terms of representation of POC, disabled people, LGBTQIA+ people, etc.

for the live action

1: it is going to be canon-divergent, this was confirmed because some characters will be appearing in season 1 that weren't introduced until season 2 in the og show-

2: Mike + Brian (atla creators) left the project in 2021 because of "creative differences" when it comes to ideas

3: netflix loves making money off of gay people.

4: when Mike + Brian left, and when the "creative differences" emerged, was AFTER the explosion of zukka-

sidenotes:

there are official, fully canon letters to zuko from uncle iroh about their lives- and therefore, about the gaang, in "The Legacy of The Fire Nation" the one about sokka contains... this.

"the prince and the fool. but is that all you and sokka were, or were to one another? no, I think not.//and sokka needed you, zuko..."(continues but I'm cutting it off here bc this is all that matters.)

He ignores the part of his brain that tells him he isn’t wanted, despite Chief Hakoda’s words. When Katara raises an eyebrow at his pause, he forces himself to relax and plasters a smile on his face.

“Absolutely,” he breathes out.

or: sokka is taking over for his father as chief. in a last ditch effort to get their heads out of their asses, katara & hakoda have convinced zuko to come down for his swearing in. they didn’t account for sokka and zuko’s absolute stupidity.

I can’t stop thinking about Zukka and Klance but I have a decent amount of posts on Klance. I figured that I dedicate this one to Zukka. There’s just something rattling in my head about them that just makes the most sense to me its about Zuko and Sokka practicing sparing with one another.

Zuko doesn’t use his fire bending to be fair with Sokka or even to burn him, but sometimes to Sokka’s request he does use it. They have occasionally swapped weapons with one another to try the other one out and Zuko gets good at using Sokka’s Whale Tooth Saber.

Yes, the same saber Sokka used to expel Zuko out of his village, and it’s shown below alongside Zuko’s Dual Broadswords. They often tie with each other because they think they are equally matched toward each other, also Toph knows about their little sparing secret, though, she doesn’t share with anyone since she knows how embarrassed both of them will get.

More reasons why Zuko being the Firelord is objectively the funniest thing on earth:

HES SEVENTEEN

He hasn’t been civilised in 4 years, his entire teenage experience consists of living on a boat and sleeping rough. The most stable bed he has was probably in Ba Sing Se he probably will just nap anywhere.

He has customer service experience which means he probably uses his customer service voice on his minsters.

Additionally he probably just wanders into to kitchen to get his own snacks and tea because he forgets what servants do.

He probably has no idea why he can’t just chase after an assassin he used to hunt the avatar for Agnis sake why is the captain of the guard demanding he stay in his room he’ll find the guy first (he’s probably right)

Katara probably has a free pass on Eco terrorism because what’s he going to do challenge her, she’ll beat his ass.

If he saw a minster doing something shady he will either invite lady Beifong to detect their BS or commit B&E and look for evidence himself.

He somehow found a baby dragon and raises it.

He will be far to willing to give Kyoshi island anything they want cause he feels bad and Suki scares him.

He randomly insisted on giving some earth kingdom village 100 ostrich horses.

The Avatar will just show up call him Hotman and demand the go on adventures and the Firelord will just dip because he’s been confined to long and has the Zoomies.

He takes far to much advice from Sokka and will genuinely believe if someone doesn’t get Sokkas plans they must be an idiot because Sokka is 16.

Sokka and Zuko also get into a lot of teenage rebellion phases by accident.

Toph just walks in breaks a wall of his palace and demands a field trip that always involves the Firelord having to explain himself to the cops.

He somehow knows every dangerous teen in the world and they all come for tea uninvited.

He has broken into both the NWT and Ba Sing Se.

He has a really well documented facial scar and official portraits but still disappears to be Lee the tea guy like no one knows.
