Thinking about how Zuko almost never laughs in canon. And how Sokka takes alot of his identity from being the “funny one”, the one who can always lighten a mood and make people smile.

Thinking about a Sokka who makes it his mission to get Zuko to even so much as smile. Laughter is his goal, but he’ll take even just a soft smile if he can get it.

He doesn’t know why it irks him so much, that smiles so rarely grace Zuko’s face, that laughter is so rarely heard from the teen Firelord.

But Sokka knows he wants to hear it. Needs to hear it. He can’t explain it- maybe it’s because Zuko is the one person who doesn’t so easily laugh at his jokes- but it becomes an obsession for him.

Over time, Sokka becomes the only person who can wheedle out a genuine laugh from Zuko. The only one who can ease his worry-lined face into softness, who can make a smile appear on his pressed thin lips.

Zuko starts to seek him out, whenever he’s feeling particularly worn down. When pressure sinks into his bones, when tension weighs on his shoulders like the goddamn earth itself- it’s Sokka’s easy smile and quick wit that he seeks.

Before long, they’re both spending every free second they can find in eachother’s company. Sokka stops trying to get Zuko to laugh just to feel better about himself- he starts trying to get him to laugh just because he loves the sound. And Zuko stops seeking Sokka out just because he knows he’ll feel a little calmer from his jokes- he seeks him out because he knows he’ll feel at peace from Sokka.

It’s slow, the way they fall in love. It doesn’t happen overnight. It’s not a flash, no collision that leaves them dazed.

It’s a snowball of little moments. It’s shared laughs and small smiles, it’s leaned on shoulders and quiet evenings where neither utters a word.

It’s slow, but that’s the kind of love that lasts. They wade into the water instead of diving straight in, and by the time they reach the deep end- they both find that they’ve learned how to swim.

So I'm a debate kid who's obsessed with zukka so I'm so so so glad I found ur account lmao. I love ur hcs for their events.

However, as a policy kid, I'd have to say sokka also does policy just so he can tell zuko pufo is over glorified book reports. "Do u even have a cite? Do u even know what a cite is?" every time zuko says pufo is better than policy sokka says "oh rly? Zuko any debate format with something called sticky defense can't be considered real debate let's be honest with ourselves"

Suki and katara are a terrifying policy team I feel it in my bones.

I feel like the next step to this is headcannoning what arguments they read. Katara x Suki = k team, probably setcol or security. Zuko is a Phil debater 100% because he's insufferable. Sokka is pomo, probably a deleuzian because he's even more insufferable. However in ld he's a tricks debater because he wants everyone to hate him.

Aang is the kind of guy who thinks deleuze and derrida make perfect sense and everyone hates him a little bit for that, but they all understand he can't control it he's just aang.

My thoughts on ATLA ships

I like to think I’m lenient with who I ship.

I used to be part of a fandom where every character no matter what would be shipped together. An average conversation with a fan would look something like:

“So who do you ship?”

“Oh these two characters who interacted maybe twice but smiled once when in proximity of one another”

“Oh my god that’s so cute please tell me your headcannons”

And I think that happens a lot when you’re a part of a fandom where there are ZERO cannon relationships. Everyone is supportive of every ship because every ship is technically possible.

I also found that the connection people made with ships made the fandom an overall super enjoyable community to be a part of.

No matter what, you could always find SOMEONE who liked the same thing as you, and other people were always willing to listen.

I think that’s what made the switch to ATLA so terrifying to me. Seeing everyone constantly at each other’s throats over a ship was… to put it lightly: silly. I swear, I’ve heard ships I never thought of before with 0 explanation while being a part of the ATLA fandom and was like: Woah! Totally Tubular dude!

Jetko? Not personally for me but I see the vision!

I find it so stupid that people have to write analysis after analysis to try and ‘defend’ a ship. And yeah, if you enjoy writing these analyses, there’s no reason you should stop, it’s just really sad to see that they’re often in response to people telling you you’re wrong for thinking what you think.

Ships are going to exist whether you like it or not, so why not enjoy the freedom and joy of people enjoying their ships? What’s keeping people from acting positively to the fact that a show they love so much has such an engaging fandom?

Zukka's Love Language

This suddenly like, pops up in my head just now but love language. We all know there are different love languages out there, Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time, and Physical Touch.

And obviously Sokka is Physical Touch since he likes to show affection and all but Zuko? My headcannon is that he would be a Quality Time guy but because of Fire Lord duties he mostly gives/send Sokka gifts that reminded him of him.

And Sokka, I picture him as someone who won't throw stuff away with reasons that the item held a lot of memories and feelings for him, so he kept every single thing that Zuko sent over.

Imagine Zuko finally had the time to visit Sokka to find that the Water Tribe boy kept everything even the rock that was shaped like a rainbow that Zuko sent over as a joke with him. Holy moly Sokka had never seen Zuko cry so much before.

Modern AU where both Zuko and Sokka think the other is the 'bad boy' and so try to keep their distance (hopelessly).

Sokka shows up at the Jasmine Tea on his motorcycle wearing an old leather jacket and is always meeting different girls - Zuko serves them without saying anything. He doesn't hear Sokka gushing about the latest sci-fi movie or see him drawing schematics on napkins and shoving them in his pockets. Zuko doesn't know the girls are friends and/or his sister (Sokka is all about healthy relationships no matter the gender).

And let's be real, Zuko's scar looks kinda gnarly and people have preconceived notions about people, and I love to picture him with tattoos like the one's everyone draws him with. He also has horrible social skills and doesn't really know how to be a good customer service person so Sokka assumes the waiter is standoffish and let's him be.

Then Zuko completely upends a tray of tea on Sokka and he goes into full babble apology mode and Sokka takes off the jacket to show some stupid science pun t-shirt and they both instantaneously realize the other is actually a huge fucking dork lmao

Alright, so imagine a Zukka soulmate au, but it’s the one where you feel any pain that your soulmate feels.

So, Sokka learns to hate the fire nation even more than he already did, because they killed his mom, and then they tried to kill his soulmate. (he’s friggin pissed)

And Zuko gets concerned for his soulmate, because, contrary to popular belief, soulmates can feel each other’s emotional pain too. So he feels the deep anguish at the world, and he can feel the dull ache of sobs rattling through his chest late at night, but he also feels the bumps on the head from boomerang, and the cuts along his upper arms from off-balance hunting spears, and he wishes that he could do something for his soulmate, lessen his own pain so that they didn’t have to feel both their own and his.

When they first meet, and Sokka hits Zuko in the back of the head with boomerang, he feels a dull ache in the back of his own head for days after, but thinks nothing of it.

Sokka meets Yue, and falls in love with her before he can stop himself, but he watches as she collapses with pain when Zhao kills the moon spirit, and knows that they’re not meant to be.

He meets Suki and sees her wince in pain when another warrior across the room get’s knocked off her feet, and he knows that they’re not soulmates, but he still likes her a lot, so he decides to go for it anyways.

Sokka watches in Ba Sing Se as Katara nearly collapses with pain when Aang is struck by Azula’s lightning, and he understands that his sister has found her match. He only wishes that he had his own.

But then. Then, he sees Zuko at the air temple, and he feels the seer dissapointment when he gets rejected, but pushes it off as nothing. Then, when they do invite Zuko to stay, he can feel a sense of rest, reassurance, like something within has settled. 

He doesn’t read too much into it.

But then. Boiling Rock. He’s just put Zuko into the freezer when he starts to feel a chill settle in his bones, and even once he makes it out to the warm prizon yard, the chill doesn’t dissapate. He tries to shake it out, tries to warm himself up, but nothing works until he takes Zuko out of the cell. 

And that’s when he realizes.

For Zuko, it’s when they’re sparring. He’s got Sokka pinned in between a tree and his blades, and he can sense a gentlely increasing pressure on his throat, that doesn’t go away until Sokka yeilds.

And oh shit.
