Quote
Don't you understand? I couldn't love you, because I couldn't love me. It wouldn't have been fair.

No one can break me like you, because no one knows me like you. There is no lover, or parent, or friend who can make me hurt the way you do. There is no one as terrifying, isolating, or disheartening as you. As me? Are we one in the same? I like to think that you are your own being, though you fit into my brain seamlessly. I need to think that you aren’t me; otherwise, I would be up until the small hours of the morning fighting myself. I need to remind myself to fight you. And you are not me. -Mental Illness

“Do you love me?” I asked.
“Does it have to be about love?” He replied.
And with his question, I had my answer.

Reflection
I looked in the mirror,
Cracking under the pressure,
Trying to be a woman as well as a mom.
I saw the breasts that nursed you,
The stomach that grew with you,
And the skin that stretched to support you,
And I wanted to cry.
Then you told me that I was beautiful,
And at three-feet tall and four years old
I knew that you honestly believed it.
I knew that you would never know to fill my ears with pleasantries
To spare my feelings.
And I cried,
Because I think the love I have for you
Is reflected in the purity of your heart
And the innocence of your mind.

I realized that I needed to move on when I saw you after two months. My heart immediately dropped and I looked to the floor as I walked past you. I heard your laughter within the loudness of the crowd. I saw you dancing and moving about as if you didn’t have a single worry. Meanwhile, I was shaking and couldn’t help but feel tears form. I knew that all this time, you were fine without me. That’s when I learned that I would be fine without you too. I should be fine without you.
