5/8/20 - first day of my online internship! ✨ so far so good - not sure how i feel about microsoft teams but video talks with your camera and mic off provide a nice window of time to crack on with chores as you listen to what’s going on 😂

things i learned in 2017 that i should have known sooner
since it’s december 31 today i figured i should make this an annual thing and build off of my previous 2016 wrap up post, so here goes :)
1. discipline is built on practice. too many times i’ve wasted time on useless things like surfing the internet when i should have been studying or working on extracurriculars or other responsibilities, and i started taking action against my lethargy too late in the year to make a significant difference. practice discipline a little bit everyday! the easiest place to start is not visiting websites that waste a lot of time, or turning your phone off when you’re supposed to be studying
2. age is not indicative of maturity or knowledge. too many times people who are older try to take advantage of their seniority and wave it around as if it’s a pass to knowing more than someone younger than them, but it’s only a cheap ploy to make themselves feel better. stand up for yourself and call them out on their bullshit
3. regulate your sleep schedule!! i used to not do this until this semester and it’s given me so much more time to get things done. one rem cycle is an hour and a half, and you’re supposed to get 3 to 4 rem cycles to have enough sleep. when i regulate my sleep cycle i usually can get away with getting only 6 hours of sleep, but when i don’t, i need to get at least 7.5 hours during the week, and oversleep on the weekends to not be tired. sleepyti.me calculates when you need to sleep based on when you need to wake up and has saved my life this semester
4. make mental health a priority. this is so hard, but self care is so important!! i spend this semester basically hanging by a thin thread and my grades, relationships, and mental health suffered for it. sometimes i would go days without wanting to talk to anyone because i would feel overwhelmed by everything going on that i didn’t want to throw social interaction on top of all that lmao.
5. don’t multi-task things that require concentration. it’ll take you three hours to get something that could have taken half an hour. pretty self explanatory
6. don’t look for drastic solutions for temporary struggles. time heals everything, and like everything, it will pass. you already made it this far , you can make it even further!
7. college apps are a pain in the ass. no joke. i have no idea why people decided that it was a good idea to have students work on them during the school year, but unfortunately in the US, that’s how it is. prioritize and get them started asap, preferably in the summer. and realize that they’re probably more important than trying to maintain straight a’s/high grades. colleges look at senior grades in terms of rigor, so it’s okay if you don’t get perfect grades. as long as you pushed yourself by taking harder classes or taking on more extracurricular activities that you enjoy, then colleges will see that.

Hi guys! It's Ben, and I'm finally back from my break from the Study community! I've decided to create a StudyGram because it's just become such a hassle to upload photos and update you all with the Tumblr interface! I'll still be active in Tumblr, but I just wanted to let you all know that I've created a StudyGram! Thanks so much, and I can't wait to post new content after 2018 starts! My StudyGram is @smallbeanstudies_ on Instagram! -Ben P.S. I have a better explanation of why I've made my StudyGram on my first post on Instagram!

Introduction:Studyblr.
Hello, guys, my name is Simran.
I made a studyblr about couple months ago, but wasn’t using but now since I am in sixth-form, I want to stay motivated and focused throughout the A-levels, and I want to share this journey with people who have enthusiasm for studying, being organized, helping each other, and being friendly all the same time. I wish to learn a lot from here. Here’s a few facts about me:- • I’m in 12th year, I’m studying physics, maths and accounting (finance). And I love maths, so you may see a lot of maths posts around! • I’m studying IAL (International Advance-Level), which is same as A-levels but it is taken as IAL in foreign countries outside U.K. • I am from bangladesh, but my ethnicity is Indian. • I can speak 4 languages fluently (Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, English) and I learnt german/arabic while I was growing up..so and a bit of German/arabic too. • I also am willing to keep a youtube channel to help you guys, with the online resources or revision notes you may need. •I love reading books, watching tv shows (kdrama, turkish shows) etc, if you have any suggestions/recommendations, inbox me, always up for it.  if you have any questions, or need help, feel free to inbox or ask it away!

A level note-taking in the 21st century: a compromise
In these modern/tech-y times, most schools are using online platforms to share resources with students. And especially in the sixth form (grade 11 & 12) at least in my school, students are expected to use laptops in class to make notes — barely anyone takes notes by hand in my classes. But, as Straight-Outta-GCSE students (who are mostly used to making physical, hand-written notes in class, then editing and copying them out into revision notes later), this sudden change in learning style can be distressing. Especially on top of the fast-paced + lots-of-content style of the A level courses. You can find yourself in a position of doubting whether what you’re doing to record notes in class is efficient at all.
So what we need is a note-taking system that is fast to write, all in one place and physically tangible so that you can easily flip through during your 2 years.
This is the way that works best for me:
1)    Take basic notes on laptop in class (OneNote/Evernote/etc.)
2)    Colour code/consolidate/add textbook info during free periods/after school (this is also a good way of reviewing your notes to make sure you understand them)
3)    Print them out regularly (I do mine on a weekly basis) either at home or using the school printers and stick them in order in a folder.
This not only keeps the notes legible (no offense to your handwriting), but also lets you use them as revision notes because they are already edited. So you won’t need to spend those two weeks before an exam re-writing notes, when you’re having The Fear — instead you can use that time to do practice questions because that’s really what allows you to master a subject.
