30/09/20 ~ preparing for my English language lecture!
hi guys, just a quick post to get back into the swing of tumblr. I’m really excited for autumn and Halloween, even if it’s going to be different from last year! I’m just looking forward to movies, hot drinks and good food honestly 💓.
Maybe also a distraction from uni because the first two weeks of first year have been quite hard frankly! I’m not really enjoying university as I thought I would, mostly due to the lack of contact with other students and the university environment. It really has made me contemplate the choices I’ve made and consider future choices I might make. How are you guys feeling being back to school and uni?

Introduction post
Hello !
I realize it’s been a long time I’m on Tumblr and I’ve never introduce myself properly to the english spoken population. Because it’s never to late (and I’m keen on talking about myself for once) let’s do this.
My name is Marine, 23 yo (oooold), French (but not Parisian). I'm a Slytherin and INTJ.
I'm a 3rd year Physiotherapy Student and I did 3 years in Medschool. I'm also waiting (and doing everything I can) to have a PhD in neurosciences to do research.
I'm also very curious so there is a lot of topic that interest me.
I have been diagnosed with depression (and mood disorders) and struggled with it for half my life. I've taken meds, undergone therapy and saw a psychiatrist (which I still do) and it's getting better.
I play handball, practice a bit of yoga, music (piano and the guitar). I discovered my passion for making pastry one year ago and it's so cool. I love to read when I have some times.
I am bisexual and currently with my girlfriend for a few months now.
In this tumblr I share things about studying, mental health, about my personal life and my experiences during my rotations. Also inspo about life in general and study spaces (I’ve moved in a house with two roomates and in need of inspiration to make my bedroom my own.)
I really like following :
- @quilavastudy and @joolshallie bc they’re inspiring me to pursue medecine (and I find it so nice that they’re sisters!)
- @studyquill bc she’s full of advices/tips and kindness. (also Hermione inspo!) Her notes are so neat and pretty too!
- @howtoskewl bc Gilmore girl (even though you changed url)
- @dungeonstudy yey fellow slytherin
- @study-like-its-hot bc I love to see her picture of Cambridge !
- and so much more. Thank you to be an inspiration for people ! :)

Alright here’s the deal. I’m in grade 10 and I need to get a 90 average I don’t know how to study, I’ve always just winged it and done great. But it’s starting to pile on and it’s affecting my grades. I have no motivation, but I know I want to be a doctor it’s just what I’ve always wanted to do. But I don’t know how. All of my friends get 90s and I’m here not knowing what to do. I’m afraid everyone else is moving ahead while I’m stuck. Help please
Ok so,
You’ve hit the barrier that we all, at one point or another reach - where we need to supplement our natural talent with discipline and work.
And that’s ok! That’s normal! This is not a crisis. This is real life!
The best advice I can give you is to study smart. That means targeting your time/ effort to the things you are going to be examined on. This starts with looking over your course syllabus (or what topics you’ve covered in class), and becoming familiar with the structure of your exams.
and then leaving the rest to one side.
So what does studying smart mean?
Here’s some other resources that might help:
Studying smart, not hard (specifically for semester finals)

What to do after getting a shit grade
Time Management
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, that may also be a time management issue. Now, we’ve all got the same number of hours in a day - it’s how we choose to spend them that makes the difference.

On being a doctor
It’s great that you know that you want to be a doctor. I think a good way to motivate yourself is to ask why you want to be a doctor. Not only for short-term motivation, but for long term motivation.
This is important because the road to being a doctor (and a lot of ‘traditional’ professions) is much longer than just ‘completing high school and completing med school’. A lot of students don’t realise that it takes, in some instances, decades of hard work.
Not to mention the financial, emotional and mental sacrifices that you will need to make.
A good way to make an informed decision about your career choices is to ask people who are already in the field and people who are studying medicine. To that end I’d recommend:
@studydiaryofamedstudent
@dxmedicalstudent (FAVOURITE. seriously.)
@verymedical
@medicalstate (no longer active, but his posts were always a deep dive into practice, amongst other things)
On feeling left behind
Here’s the thing.
You’re not.
You are not falling behind.
I understand why it feels that way. High school is a pressure cooker. For your entire academic life to date, you’ve been working in this competitive environment. Where success feels like a zero sum game.
It’s not.
You have your own route to success. The battles you win, the results you receive, the progress you achieve - the value of these things are not diminished just because “your friends are doing better.”
Its natural to judge your performance against everyone else. What they got for an exam, how much they wrote, what answers they got, how they solved a problem. Don’t give too much weight to what people say they’ve done. In the end you can only control your own performance.
You don’t need +90 to ‘move ahead in life’.
Just because someone does it first, whether it be graduating high school, graduating uni, getting a job first, getting their first kiss, going on a first date - all these ‘coming of age markers’ - doesn’t mean that you won’t get to achieve them yourself.
But if you feel like you’re falling behind, and you use that feeling to stop yourself from working, then you will be holding yourself back from success.
So, stop focussing on the ‘race’. Instead, look to where you’re running to. And where you final destination is.
Highly recommend reading these wise words from @niuniente.
And if you’re feeling stuck? Reach out for help.
All the best anon.

After a good 2 years of tumblr fomo this African girl (who’s so excited to be spending December holidays in Canada) VISITED MUJI FOR THE FIRST TIME 😂😍✨🎉🤙🏽🍾 (Can someone also celebrate with me?🙈😂) . In as much as owning muji and mildliners shouldn’t define your studies, in a tumblr/studyblr sense I couldn’t be more excited and looking forward to next years studies with these 🌸

hey guys! would really like to branch out in the studyblr community, so if you could hit the reblog button, that would be fab!
my names hollie, i’m 19 and i live in somerset, england. after 5 years of struggling with anorexia, depression, anxiety and, more recently, borderline personality disorder, i’m now studying for my a levels through self/home study. i’ve spent the last few years in and out of hospital, with two brief admissions to an acute psychiatric ward. due to all of this, keeping on track with my education has proved to be hard, which is why i really love the studyblr community. my inbox is always open if anyone wants a chat!

Be honest - are you at all jealous of your sisters success?
I’m not sure what you’re referring to here - whether she got better grades than me, or if you’re assuming she got into a ‘better’ med school than me, or if I should just be jealous because she’s done as well as me, or whatever.
But regardless, the answer is no. Firstly, it’s not like we’re drastically different at all - we’re both A/A* students, we both work hard, and we both got into medical school. If I was just bumbling about achieving nothing, then yes I would probably be jealous, but seeing as I have and I’m actually further on than she is (due to being older haha), there’s not much competition there. After all, I still get to become a doctor first ;)
Like yeah there are some areas where she’s more successful than me. I do think she has a stronger work ethic than me, and she’s been far more consistent in grades than I have been. She’s never had to retake anything, whereas I have. She got more A*s at GCSE and A level, and she got one more offer for med school than I did. If I was a super competitive person maybe this would bother me, but I’m not, and we’ve both got to be where we wanted to be so I just don’t see how it matters. Plus she’s often said to me that I helped inspire her to work so hard, so that’s freaking cute.
And if you mean I’d be jealous because she’s done as well as me and therefore taking away my thunder because now I’m not the only one doing medicine and all that - again nah, because I’m not competitive like that. I’m just actually so proud that she got in, because she really deserved it! And now it’s so cool that we’ll be able to chat about medicine stuff together. Ain’t that right @joolshallie? x

Introduction:Studyblr.
Hello, guys, my name is Simran.
I made a studyblr about couple months ago, but wasn’t using but now since I am in sixth-form, I want to stay motivated and focused throughout the A-levels, and I want to share this journey with people who have enthusiasm for studying, being organized, helping each other, and being friendly all the same time. I wish to learn a lot from here. Here’s a few facts about me:- • I’m in 12th year, I’m studying physics, maths and accounting (finance). And I love maths, so you may see a lot of maths posts around! • I’m studying IAL (International Advance-Level), which is same as A-levels but it is taken as IAL in foreign countries outside U.K. • I am from bangladesh, but my ethnicity is Indian. • I can speak 4 languages fluently (Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, English) and I learnt german/arabic while I was growing up..so and a bit of German/arabic too. • I also am willing to keep a youtube channel to help you guys, with the online resources or revision notes you may need. •I love reading books, watching tv shows (kdrama, turkish shows) etc, if you have any suggestions/recommendations, inbox me, always up for it.  if you have any questions, or need help, feel free to inbox or ask it away!

[15/09/17]
I am so proud to announce that the beginning of my post-IB life will begin in Cambridge where I will be studying geography! I honestly never thought that I would make it this far. Throughout the two years of IB I was so sick that many of my teachers thought I wouldn’t make it through the programme. During exams I was flying to London from Norway every chance I had to receive treatment. And despite this, I managed to get 42 points overall- surprising everyone.
Take care of yourselves. Prioritise your health. Being healthy is more useful in an exam than extra days of studying. There were weeks when I spent the evenings on the sofa, watching Netflix because that was all my body could do, while my friends studied. The damage to your body is not worth the extra hours.
My love to you all <3
