Jervis Tetch
Alias, The Mad Hatter
Obsessed with the novel Alice in Wonderland from a young age, Tetch came from an emotionally neglectful and controlling home which he always longed to escape from to his own personal fantasy world or Wonderland. As an adult he showed great intelligence in the field of chemistry and became a researcher at Wayne Laboratories where he secretly experimented on the drug Scopolamine in attempt to study the possibility of mind control. He eventually created a cocktail which could be administered through a transdermal patch applied to the forehead and presented his findings to his superiors, who deemed his studies unethical and fired him for wasting company funds. After this he became a pharmacy technician and began planning to create his own personal Wonderland, incorporating his scopolamine patches into hats and masks and kidnapping people to brainwash into his tea party guests themed as Wonderland characters, including one of his former coworkers with whom he was infatuated with, Alice Robertson. After several of his victims would turn up again missing time, the vigilante Batman investigated their stories and was able to track down Tetch to an abandoned warehouse made up to look like a Wonderland themed tea party where he found 2 beheaded bodies of Tetch's victims. Tetch was apprehended and charged with 2 murders and 19 counts of kidnapping for which he was deemed unfit for trial and admitted to Arkham State Hospital. During a security incident he and several other inmates have escaped and are thought to be hiding out in the shadows throughout the city's districts. Citizens are cautioned to be on the lookout for a caucasian male with a large nose, shaggy dirty blonde hair, a slight overbite and blue-green eyes standing 5'6 ft tall, likely wearing a hat and dressed in garrish clothing.

Some selina sketches. I regret not making her motorcycle suit more retro but I also think the stitching helps sell it somehow. As far as what helped inspire my iteration of the character, I mostly took from what was already there in the comic and film portrayals and wanted to flesh out the idea that she suffers from more weird, obsessive tendencies, hence the kleptomania and cat fixation.

Selina Irene Kyle
Alias, Catwoman
Growing up poor in inner city Gotham, Kyle was raised by a neglectful single mother and became accustomed to fending for herself from a young age. Eventually she left home for good and lived homeless on the city streets, often going hungry. She would compulsively care for stray cats in the area, even going as far as to buy food for them over herself whenever she could scrounge up the money to do so. She quickly realized that the only way she could provide for both herself and her cats was to steal, and with the athletic abilities she developed in school was able to become a successful cat burglar. So successful in fact that it became an obsession of hers, and she continued to steal even after being able to afford a home and reliably care for herself and the city鈥檚 cats. Spending so much time with the city鈥檚 cats, she related to them deeply and wanted to express herself in this way, leading her to sew makeshift cat ears onto her grandfather's black leather aviator cap she'd taken from home with her way back when she first left. Developing kleptomaniac tendencies from her life of crime, her heists continued to grow larger and more extravagant, even going after historical artifacts from The Logerquist Institute. Kyle was eventually tracked down and apprehended by The Batman for these crimes and was deemed fit for trial but was admitted to Arkham State Hospital anyway to undergo treatment for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Impulse Control Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Bipolar Disorder. During a security incident she and several other inmates have escaped and are thought to be hiding out in the shadows throughout the city's districts. Citizens are cautioned to be on the lookout for a lean, muscular middle eastern female with short black hair and brown eyes, standing around 5'5 ft tall, likely dressed in dark clothing.

Some unmasked scarecrows (modeled after actor Julian Richings) and an edit of his last post with some added fear toxin effects. Designing his look was a bit tough since all I had to start with was the mask design and a couple different faceclaim ideas but I'm happy with it. His outfit was of course inspired by some real life scarecrows I've seen and keeping with the true crime theme of my verse he was very partially inspired by Edward Paisnel (big huge CSA trigger warning if you decide to Google that creep) and with some more black makeup to give him that "dark around the eyes behind the mask" look, which I swear is a theme I won't keep bringing back for all these guys, I promise. Mostly. Even batman won't have it! If I ever get to him.
Oh and I decided my Gotham would be where philly is irl because I just couldn't resist making this guy from pennsyltucky.

Jonathan Edward Crane
Alias: The Scarecrow
Crane was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to an abusive, god fearing family that he took the brunt of mistreatment from as the oldest of his seven siblings. Socially isolated from his peers due to his booksmarts and the poverty of his family, Crane grew to become misanthropic and eventually abandoned his family for Gotham. In the city he was homeless for two years and his only clothes became raggedy and worn out, but he held onto them for the little remaining sentimental value he had left. Upon getting his life in order through help from social services, he pursued higher learning and earned several grants, eventually going as far as to receive PhDs in psychiatry and chemistry and become a professor at Gotham University. Dr. Crane was fascinated with the concept of fear from a young age and would go out of his way to scare his siblings and torment animals in the area. Now with the resources to do so, he began experimenting on mice with several different chemical cocktails before settling on one particularly successful one derived from salvinorin A, the potent hallucinogen active in salvia. During experiments on campus, he administered the drug to his own students without their knowledge, resulting in an outbreak of hysteria on campus when the drug had spread to others after getting stuck on his student's clothes and hair. Crane lost his position for this and continued his research in private, testing on himself to create as potent a drug as possible. After prolonged exposure to the drug, he became more sadistic and deranged than ever, eventually developing an immunity to the drugs effects. Wanting to continue his experiments, he decided to dawn his old raggedy clothes from home and fashioned a burlap mask to increase the effectiveness of the drug on his victims, which he could now spray from his wrists through a tube mechanism installed under his clothes. With this, he became known as The Scarecrow and would be responsible for nine gas attacks and four murders before being apprehended by Batman, who at the time was under the effects of the drug himself. Crane was deemed unfit for trial and was admitted to Arkham State Hospital. During a security incident he and several other inmates have escaped and are thought to be hiding out in the shadows throughout the city's districts. Citizens are cautioned to be on the lookout for a thin caucasian male with dark brown hair and blue eyes, standing 6'2 ft tall with a gaunt face and a distinct nose, likely to be spotted dressed in tattered, brown clothes.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to pin down a semi-permanent design for the riddler but I knew from the start I wanted to take inspiration from the unabomber and zodiac killer suspect Lawrence Kane. Somebody obviously deeply disturbed but also shockingly intelligent and with the resources/know how to commit heinous crimes. I typically don't vibe with how flamboyant he usually looks for several reasons but I still wanted him to feel dramatic and theatrical so I eventually figured a good replacement for the generic comic book domino mask would be a masquerade half mask of some kind, like the phantom of the opera, another brilliant but wretched, psychopathic loner. For his more civilian look I landed on a green checkered suit instead of the question mark one to give more of a "puzzle" feel (or perhaps tweed, a material often associated with a particular mystery solver) and black eye makeup to once again replace the domino mask.

Edward Lawrence Reese
Aliases: E. Nygma, The Riddler
Honorably discharged from the air force due to behavioral issues after only a brief period as an airman first class, Reese successfully pursued a career in education at Gotham University. He taught for eight years until falling victim to a car crash which injured his head and killed the secondary driver, after which he recovered but noticeably changed, his emotional issues becoming worse than ever. Having previously been tested with an IQ of 185, Reese believed himself to be over qualified for his position as an english professor and treated his coworkers and students alike as beneath him. His narcissistic personality resulted in him losing his position and isolating himself from society, his frustration eventually reaching a boiling point when he began to plan elaborate crimes to showcase his intellect. Having no friends or family to speak of, he developed a deep resentment for others and felt like an outcast, causing him to begin hiding his face with an opera mask, inspired by the story Phantom of the Opera. Around this time he modified his air force flight suit with a large question mark on the chest and back and began committing his initial crime spree. At each scene he left letters to the press signed E. Nygma with hidden messages and puzzles, though before the police allowed these to be published he was already known by the alias assigned by The Gotham Gazette, The Riddler. After 3 kidnappings, 3 bombings and 3 first degree murders, Reese was incapacitated and apprehended by the infamous Batman vigilante, after which he was deemed unfit for trial and admitted to Arkham State Hospital. During a security incident he and several other inmates have escaped and are thought to be hiding out in the shadows throughout the city's districts. Citizens are cautioned to be on the lookout for a lean caucasian male with reddish brown hair and green eyes, standing around 5'11 ft tall with a small mole on his right cheek, likely dressed in the color green, which he has a neurotic obsession with.
