I just found this on twitter. Big #shoutout to @stacymdillon on #twitter. Can’t confirm she is the same person as the IG handle but oh well. . #Blacklivesmatter #translivesmatter #womensrights #wefight #weresist #wewillwin #outfittingtherevolution #deconstructtheconstruct #blackonblackbk #itslifeordeathforus #intersectionality #civilrights #humanrights #equality #equalityforall no #racism, #sexism, #classism, #ableism, #homophobia, #transphobia, #xenophobia #alliesandchampions #notagame #resistance . I love this reaction. People these days are so uncomfortable with growth. Growth is new. Growth is unknown. To many it’s scary as fuck. But #muhammadali once said and I’m #paraphrasing, “Show me a man who is the same 20 years later and I’ll show you a man that wasted 20 years of his life.” . Wear my shirts and water their #psyche. @kahlil.greene’s post this morning reminded me of this post from a few back. So to round out my Father’s Day block, I think it is time we put this "absentee black father" business to bed once and for all. The numbers don’t support it because #facts. I found this a few years ago and always refer back to it. • "Considering the fact that “black fatherhood” is a phrase that is almost always accompanied by the word “crisis” in U.S. society, it’s understandable that the CDC’s results seem innovative. But in reality, the new data builds upon years of research that’s concluded that hands-on parenting is similar among dads of all races. There’s plenty of scientific evidence to bust this racially-biased myth.” • https://thinkprogress.org/the-myth-of-the-absent-black-father-ecc4e961c2e8 • #happyfathersday #blackfatherhood #race #stereotype #myth #white #latino #black #cdc #publichealth #deconstructingtheconstruct #data #study #research #facts #information https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce_nycEFvKj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Happy Juneteenth! Come check me out at @weeksvilleheritagecenter . Repost from @blackownedbklyn . Come and check me out! Repost from @blackownedbklyn . Food has been connected to Juneteenth since the holiday was first observed on June 19, 1866 — one year after Union Army Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston to announce the emancipation of Black people in Texas, one of the last groups of enslaved people in the U.S. to be freed. Black Texans celebrated a year of freedom with music and food, over time creating annual Juneteenth traditions such as red foods and barbecue. . Our Juneteenth Food Festival on June 18-19 honors the past while creating new traditions in our present. Produced by Jummy’s Picks by Black-Owned Brooklyn (our curatorial brand) and @weeksvilleheritagecenter, the event reflects the diversity of Black Brooklyn with more than 20 vendors offering cuisine from across the African Diaspora. . Taking place on the historic grounds of Weeksville Heritage Center — once one of the largest free Black communities in pre-Civil War America and home to many abolitionist leaders — the festival will also feature a marketplace of Black-owned cultural goods, educational activities and performances. To bring the vibes, we’ll have sets from a lineup of all-Black queer and trans DJs curated by @papijuicebk (6/18) and the legendary @soulsummitmusic collective spinning house and club classics (6/19)! . I wanna say #happyfathersday to all the amazing fathers out there. I know many of them! Also I have to give a big #shoutout to the black fathers that were taken away from their kids. It’s too many to name and that is the infuriating part of it all. It’s not lost on me as I spend time with my girls that #georgefloyd & #rayshardbrooks should also be here with their kids. . #blackonblackbk #blacklivesmatter #blackpower #blackpride #blackfathers #wefight #weresist #wewillwin #outfittingtherevolution #deconstructtheconstruct #itslifeordeathforus #civilrights #equality #equalityforall no #racism #alliesandchampions #notagame #resistance (at Weeksville Heritage Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce_jK8glY2i/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

It’s that season again! Get yours if you don’t already have one! LIMITED QUANTITIES! Shipping immediately! • Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation - which had become official January 1, 1863. . Later attempts to explain this two and a half year delay in the receipt of this important news have yielded several versions that have been handed down through the years. One of General Granger’s first orders of business was to read to the people of Texas, General Order Number 3 which began most significantly with: "The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and free laborer.” . #juneteenth #june19th #emancipationproclamation #blacklivesmatter #outfittingtherevolution #deconstructtheconstruct #blackonblackbk #nationalholiday #blacketyblack #blackskin #blacknose #blacklips #blackhair #blackeverything #blackgirlmagic #blackmagic #wefight #weresist #wewillwin #blaaaaacknificent #blackpower #blackpride #supportblackbusiness #40acresandamule (at Bedford-Stuyvesant) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeZjf8pOwp7/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Edited for posting: Memorial Day was born out of necessity. After the American Civil War, a battered United States was faced with the task of burying and honoring the 600,000 to 800,000 Union and Confederate soldiers who had died in the single bloodiest military conflict in American history. Several towns and cities across America claim to have observed their own earlier versions of Memorial Day or “Decoration Day” as early as 1866. (The earlier name is derived from the fact that decorating graves was and remains a central activity of Memorial Day.) But it wasn’t until a remarkable discovery in a dusty Harvard University archive the late 1990s that historians learned about a Memorial Day commemoration organized by a group of freed black slaves less than a month after the Confederacy surrendered in 1865. . Back in 1996, David Blight, a professor of American History at Yale University, was researching a book on the Civil War when curator at Harvard’s Haughton Library asked if he wanted to look through two boxes of unsorted material from Union veterans. “There was a file labeled ‘First Decoration Day,’” remembers Blight, still amazed at his good fortune. “And inside on a piece of cardboard was a narrative handwritten by an old veteran, plus a date referencing an article in The New York Tribune. That narrative told the essence of the story that I ended up telling in my book, of this march on the race track in 1865.”’ . When Charleston fell and Confederate troops evacuated the badly damaged city, freed slaves remained. One of the first things those emancipated men and women did was to give the fallen Union prisoners a proper burial. They exhumed the mass grave and reinterred the bodies in a new cemetery with a tall whitewashed fence inscribed with the words: “Martyrs of the Race Course.” . #memorialday #freedslaves #slaves #blacklivesmatter#wefight #weresist #wewillwin #outfittingtherevolution #deconstructtheconstruct #blackonblackbk #itslifeordeathforus #blacketyblack #blackonblackbk #blackskin #blacknose #blacklips #blackhair #blackeverything #blackmagician #blaaaaacknificent #blackpower #blackpride #supportblackbusiness #supportblackart (at Bedford-Stuyvesant) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeLzuRZO47s/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

White supremacists don’t actually fear black people. They fear Karma. . You see in a White supeemacist construct, they only know one way. Domination. Excerpt From Vulture.com : "Neeson begins to recount his “transgressions” — which refers to the Irish actor’s unprovoked confession that he once set out to kill any Black man he could find following the sexual assault of a white female friend. Al brushes off Neeson’s admission of anti-Blackness, assuming that he doesn’t “hate Black people now.” (I’m sorry, why are we doing this?) “What? I can’t stand the lot of you,” Neeson clarifies, citing his failed cancellation as a new source of hate. Al is confused by his lack of remorse. “Didn’t you learn that you shouldn’t say shit like that?” he asks. “Yes, but I also learned that the best and worst part about being white is we don’t have to learn anything if we don’t want to,” Neeson answers." . #atlanta #amsterdam #donaldglover #blackonblackbk #blacklivesmatter #blackpower #blackpride #blackprivilege #wefight #weresist #wewillwin #outfittingtherevolution #deconstructtheconstruct #itslifeordeathforus #civilrights #equality #equalityforall no #racism #whitepower #whiteprivilege #alliesandchampions #notagame #resistance https://www.instagram.com/p/Cdj8252u7KR/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Today started with all the emotions. The past few days have actually. I am 14 years NEW today. Happy ReBirthday to me! 14 years ago, my now, wife and I were out to a Brazilian Girls concert with some friends from work. They had no idea of our 2 year relationship that we had kept very much a secret. There was big stigma of account dating a creative person that wasn't a two-way stigma at the agency. Hence our secrecy. That night however we were not “together” because we had broken up for probably the 7th time, the month prior in the most beautiful place I had ever been to in Costa Rica. . But leaving the concert Sofia opted to ride with the friends. Any other night the choice would have been the opposite. It saved her life. She was in the car in front of me. I was t-boned as I passed through a STOP sign. . 7 weeks in Bellevue with 3 of those being in a coma. 2 of which were a “medical mystery”. The doctors said I should be screaming in pain after being taken off the morphine drip. (#akashicrecords explained what was happening…) . Sofia was the last person I saw before the coma and she first person I saw when I came out. She was at my bedside every night after work until I left. And after 4 grueling weeks of rehabilitation learning to feed myself, stand and walk again, I was able to walk out of the hospital not being the same person that went in. . That OLD “me" DIED twice in that car accident. Literally and figuratively. I flatlined for a few minutes in the ambulance and again on the operating table. I kept trying to be “Old me” for a long time. I didn’t KNOW who “he” had now BECOME. I kept trying to piece together my OLD self with these NEW parts that I had not recognized. . To get to where I am today, the journey was arduous. I had short-term memory loss from the #TBI. It took some time, lots of #cranialsacraltherapy and a consistent twice daily meditation practice that continues to this day - to deal with the PTSD that I suffered. . This life is a result of my recovery. #storybookending . I have not played a Brazilian Girls track since. Not once. #blackonblackbk #tragedyturnedtriumph #medicalmystery #miracle (at Bedford-Stuyvesant) https://www.instagram.com/p/CdHiiHAuj3y/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I post this every year. But this year I added the scene in which I speak of in the end. Pardon my shaky hand… . I had always wondered how we got the Easter Bunny out of Jesus’s resurrection. Then my homie @sophiabaphomet put me on to this book by Barbara G. Walker over 20 years ago. . "The Easter bunny was older than Christianity; it was the moon-hare sacred to the Goddess in both eastern and western nations. Recalling myths of Hathor-Astarte who laid the golden egg of the sun, Germans would say the hare would lay eggs for good children on Easter Eve.” . The really dope season 1 finale of of American Gods called “Come To Jesus” gives my absolute favorite depiction of this story. This show is done so well. American Gods is one of my #favoritebooks by #neilgaiman, one my favorite fiction authors. . #easter #eostre #ostara #astarte #ingoddesswetrust #blackonblackbk #deconstructtheconstruct #jesus #astrology #goddessoffertility #goddess #hathor #egypt (at Town of Kingston) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcdclFGuyeB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
