So, I had a strange encounter with the Cat in the Hat a couple of weeks ago.
A woman walked into the bookstore where I've been volunteering with her grandchildren, a young boy and little sister who was carrying a Cat in the Hat plush toy. The children excitedly looked around the store to pick out a couple of new books, and shortly after they left, I noticed the Cat in the Hat sitting against one of the bookshelves. I grabbed him and rushed out the door to give him back to the little girl just as they were getting in their car to head off. As I walked back to the store, I thought to myself "I don't need the Cat in the Hat hanging around, he can be a bit of a troublemaker". Then, just as I took my seat inside the store, I looked back up towards the door only to see the tail end of a tall and slender figure, dressed in black and wearing a long floppy red and white striped hat walk by. I couldn't believe my eyes and rushed to the door to confirm that it wasn't some Seussian delusion only to find that there wasn't a trace of this person outside.
A few minutes later our marketing partner walks in. I began to tell her about just happened and before I could to the detail of the mysterious figure she said, "you saw the Cat in the Hat". It turns out that she was in her car in the parking lot and saw the guy walk by.
This kind of dumb stuff happens to me way too often, usually much worse, and typically I'm the only one around to experience it. For once it was good to have another witness.

So, a neat little bookstore moved in around the corner from me. I've been spending a bit of free time there, lending a hand when I'm able, and yesterday they hosted a nice appearance with the author, Lyn Sisson-Talbert. She read a couple of her books to an audience of very polite children, and I was inspired to make a little impromptu sketch of her characters from 'Jingle Jangle' and asked her to sign it for the store.

I think the first copy of Black Panther that I read was her introductory issue back in 2005. Pretty neat to see how far the character has come in such a relatively short time.
