PETITION TO...

label the gender the reader is in your fic beforehand?!?!? why is it when i go on a fic that says "x reader", the characters refer to me as a woman and with she/her pronouns. Since when are women readers the default? PLEASE tag/write like "x male!reader" "x female!reader" and if its gender neutral you can do plain old "x reader" cause theres no label or just "gn!reader"

make more gender neutral reader fics if the gender doesnt matter in the fic. its not that hard to use they/them pronouns and use the word person or spouse or partner. unless the gender is a really important role, please make it gender neutral <3 <3 you can do ctrl+f or find in page and look to see if you accidentally used a diff pronoun. its a good revising/double checking method

Tips (sort of):

Here are sum tips you can use to write a gender neutral reader fic :)

use they/them pronouns for us if its in a pov other than ours

instead of using wife/husband: spouse

instead of using girl/boyfriend: partner

instead of using girl/boy: person

avoid using dresses/skirts as reader's clothing

try not to go to in detail with clothing to make sure it stays very gender neutral

family/gender-neutral restrooms exist and can exist in your fanfic world!

It's actually really easy and self explanatory that I don't even know what else to list.

Now of course this only applies to fics where gender identity DOESNT affect storyline or plot too much. For example I will be reading this fic and it would definitely pass off as a male reader as well or a nonbinary one therefore it could definitely be a gn!reader fic! no one would have known it was a female reader if you didnt put x female reader or used she and her. you have a chance to be inclusive--more readers and higher morality--please take it!

I know what some people are thinking: why can't you just ignore the pronouns and the gender mention?

It's kinda hard for me at least to ignore and replace. Its some kind of ick for me that makes me scroll away quickly. I see an unlabeled gender reader fic (a fic that just says [character] x reader) and then it says something like "woman" and uses she/her i just get a bad ick and scroll out very quickly. Its 2023 and i think its important to be inclusive these days, especially when you can. If you need help at all with making your oneshots gender neutral then you can always ask me or anyone you know that can :) hope this helped

I'm not asking for much. I'm just asking for more gender neutral, nonbinary, and male reader fanfics. It's not hard to write different pronouns, it really isn't. Also, please please PLEASE label your fem!readers! I get whiplash every time I find an unlabeled reader fic thinking it's gn but nope!!! I feel like by now gn!reader should be the standard :((

i hate when i go to the ao3 person(ex: gerard way)/you tag and its crowded with oc fics.

don't like using y/n? write in second person! or try to say things like "they said my name" etc. if its first person. otherwise, if u want to use ur own name, tag it as an oc fic!

A ‘reader insert fic': you are the reader, nicknamed Jane. you are 5’5 with brown eyes and black hair. you are witty, confident, and strong, but fall under pressure easily. you are-

Me: my brother in christ, I am not Jane. Jane is an OC. lets not tag this as a reader insert

Read my latest fic, "Dear Universe, Up Yours!" Kudos and votes are very much appreciated.

Summary:

High school seniors Gerard Way and (Y/n) (Y/l/n) were never really friends. Simply just... regular lab partners. However, one day and occurrence, that completely changes: the two find themselves in an unlikely and detrimental situation, involving the unanticipated murder of an ominous stranger. This leads them to run away together, getting into different circumstances which leave plentiful room for bonding and deep connections to be formed. Therefore, (Y/n) begins to feel and think of things they have never even pondered, while introverted Gerard begins to come out of his shell and gradually explores his disputed desire for genuine intimacy. Running away from crime indefinitely causes destruction and chaos, thus there is no way for them to know whether or not they would get caught. So with all the obscure amount of time given, who knows how close they will even become? After all, these connections are just formed by determinism from the universe.

hello juniper!

it’s me, the reader that left a 600 word essay in your comment section back in february. just wanted to drop back in and say that i think about dear universe, up yours! every day. this is not an exaggeration. once in a blue moon you’ll find a book that really sticks with you, and that’s exactly how i feel about yours. it was so raw.

i’ll admit, this is a bit spontaneous, but i was scrolling through tumblr and i came across the epilogue again, and i had to reread it. i still have the texts i sent to my friend when i finished your book, and the photo i sent her after i had sobbed into my pillow for twenty minutes.

i still mean every word i said about it, especially my final paragraph where i wrote that the mc was right - i will never feel the same way i did when i first read this book. i don’t think i could read it again if i tried. it’s something so wonderful that it can’t be redone; it can only be remembered.

i wish i could convey all my thoughts and feelings into a single message, but unfortunately that’s not possible. instead, i’ll use a word that sends me right back to february 15th every time i hear it: extraordinary.

you, juniper, are extraordinary.

thank you for the ways that you have inadvertently changed my life (which i’ll admit sounds a bit dramatic, but my perspective was certainly shifted after reading your book). may you continue to write and change the lives of those around you.

I have noticed we have been replying in the format of a letter, and therefore not once have you told me "up yours" when you have addressed me by "dear" (then a little reference to the fic would be made hehe). I mean, I would have said it, but you've read my fic and i appreciate you so much for all your comments as well, id have no reason to tell you "up yours"! It only makes sense for you to tell me it because i have broken you inside and made you cry with my fic 😭

Thank you so much! <3 <3 I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I love when people point out different aspects of my book. I tried my best to make the author relatable and i mostly based it off of myself and pretty much put all my guilt into y/n.

Part 2 is gonna go through a rough patch... I only got some parts figured out, but I have a few drafts and ideas. It might take a long time though, I'm sorry :(( work is going to be bugging me and i don't even have a full plan. But i promise ill work on it as much as i can!! <3

The first draft of the first half of the first chapter (lots of firsts) is posted on my wattpad, but looking back, it's kinda realy different since I edited it, so it might be a bit mediocre... yeah...

I'll give a few things though: the book will start off with Gerard's POV and he is in college (SVA :)) now. There will be a few sad moments, of course, and I'm hoping to conclude this story in a very bittersweet way. Gerard meets someone, but there will be no terrible love triangle whatsoever. Also, I will be adding a lot of songs from the rise and fall of ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars because i love david bowie.

And of course I'm going to add Ray!!! In my opinion, he's very underrated in the mcr fandom! He's so musically talented and I'm so sad he doesn't get much attention. He's the only POC in the band, which makes me, as a POC, upset that not many people recognize or appreciate him that much.

Also yes, I wanted to put frank there in the age he realistically would be when Gerard is 17. I think frerard fics intimated me way too much that i was just like "i know its a fucking AU, but frank is 4 fucking years younger than gerard, is there ever going to be a fic where he is" then yeah... plus i like those scenes in movies where snobby kids somehow inspire the older people. I wanted to make him very immature.

I ABSOLUTELY ENJOYED SEASON 2!! JAMES WAS DEFINITELY MY FAV IN THERE! IT WAS KINDA SAD HOW ALYSSA FELT NOTHING, KIND OF LIKE HOW JAMES WAS IN THE BEGINNING OF SEASON 1, LIKE THEY JUST SWAPPED FEELINGS OR SOMETHING

Also Id like for it to be known that when I first created this story, I NEVER WATCHED THE SHOW! Ive only heard about it and the story and I saw a frerard fanart of it and I was like.. hMMMM.... so I got the idea first of running away, then the murder, then I finally watched it, then I was like "okay I am making this goddamn story"

Author's Note

I want to start off with that I never knew I'd actually finish this book.

Writing is pretty hard, and over the past weeks and months I've written this story, I've gotten multiple writer's block. But I can't believe that I actually finished this one, an original work of mine. About 54,418 words total (including the songs playing).

I want to thank all of my readers. I've actually never would have finished it without you. And like I know that's some cheesy saying, but it's true. Your support and appreciation really motivated me to go on. To be honest, at chapter 9 or 10, I felt so stuck and I thought it'd just be another abandoned work.

The thing is, I've always imagined the ending of this book ever since I've thought of the idea of this book. I even wrote it out before I even reached chapter 5. Originally, I planned on making a sequel, or at least a part 2 in this book, but only time will tell. Please ask any questions if you're wondering about anything in this book and I'll be happy to answer.

I always felt the urge to write something incredible, and I've always wanted it to be, y'know, Unholyverse-famous or ASOTM-famous, sort of thing. But I know that in these days, MCR fanfic especially x Reader fanfics aren't very popular and are looked down on, but I really wanted to write something that'll amaze people. I don't know if that'll ever happen or not, but reading a lot of comments and messages on Wattpad and Archive of our Own has made me feel like what I've written is special.

Thank you all my readers for everything, your support, comments, appreciation, everything. I truly wouldn't be able to finish this without you.

I was pretty anxious ever since I clicked the Publish/Post button for the last chapter and epilogue, because I don't want to disappoint anyone with this ending. There may or may not be a Part 2 or sequel to this book, so just stay tuned.

This book will be edited a lot over time due to any mistakes I might have missed or undesired diction and wording.
